Look, I don't care if people want to homeschool. If that works for them and they're happy, it's totally cool by me! But to pretend it's completely perfect and doesn't have problems is just ignorant. For example, my homeschool group had a severe bullying problem, yet nobody did anything about it. Many of the kids in that group are still functionally illiterate, still live with their parents well into adulthood, still have childlike interests and mannerisms, are terrified of interacting with the world, and have no ambition or motivation. Obviously public school isn't perfect but homeschooling isn't this magical solution either. I also think you underestimate the feelings of loneliness and isolation some homeschooled kids go through.
It’s almost like general opinions on what’s healthiest for society need to be taken and understood with some nuance and every situation and family is going to be different depending on how much effort the parents actually put into it.
I never said homeschooling was a magic cure. I fully acknowledged abuse in the homes in my original post.
Also- “Childlike interests and mannerisms” isn’t a negative— and a lot of time it’s based on “mature” being equated to some level of seriousness rather than of responsibility.
Public schools have bad teachers and dynamics and bullies.
Homeschool groups will as well.
(Also not every homeschooler does co-ops or groups. I didn’t.)
Which is why I emphasized the importance of parents’ involvement and prioritizing the child’s well-being.
A good system doesn’t matter if the people within that system are corrupt. But that isn’t the system’s fault.
I’m not arguing with you, and I’m fully aware that tumblr gives absolutely nothing nuance and takes opinion as blanket general rules. But goodness…

When you’ve been cooking for long enough, you stop making recipes and start making “shit in a skillet” and “whatever soup”

unsung benefit i think a lot of ppl are sleeping on with using the public library is that i think its a great replacement for the dopamine hit some ppl get from online shopping. it kind of fills that niche of reserving something that you then get to anticipate the arrival of and enjoy when it arrives, but without like, the waste and the money.

Ya know when people told me "when you're finally safe enough that you can leave survival mode and start to let go of and process your c-ptsd/trauma things are probably going to get really, really bad before they slowly start to get better" I thought that was reasonable. I did not understand that by "things are going to get bad" they meant "you're going to find yourself in the worst mental state of your entire life, but dw, that means it's working" and tbh I simply wish someone had been more clear.
Edit: If everyone could please take a minute and think about what it must feel like to be struggling and then have multiple strangers say to your face that they find the prospect of going through what you're going through so horrifying that they'd rather kill themselves and then stop leaving comments like that I would greatly appreciate it.

keep seeing undergrads on social media saying “oh if a prof has a strict no-AI academic integrity policy that’s a red flag for me because that means they don’t know how to design assignments” like sorry girl but that just sounds like you’ve got a case of sour grapes about not being allowed to cheat with the plagiarism machine that doesn’t know how to evaluate sources and kills the environment! I have a strict no-AI policy because if you use AI to write your essays for a writing course it’s literally plagiarism because you didn’t write it and you’re not learning any of the things the course teaches if you just plug a prompt into the plagiarism generator that kills the environment, hope this helps!

can you believe that we have fanfiction. that we have websites dedicated to fanfiction. that there is a place that you can go and read tens, hundreds, thousands and thousands of pieces of writing that strangers have made. people who are not "writers". people who come home at the end of the day and have feelings and say, i am going to put that into words. i am going to share those words. short, long, sweet, sad, horny, funny, wonderful words. we are all just human and we all love to make and remake and share that with others. can you believe that.

I gotta say, one of the greatest achievements of my 20s was that I learned (mostly) to differentiate between:
"I truly do not want to go" and
"I'm just feeling the Demand Avoidance, and I will like it once I get there."

hey did you know??? that if you stop stretching and maintaining mobility in your body then it goes away?? things get tight and you can't move the way that you used to??? and when you decide to try getting a stretch routine going that the first week fucking sucks because you keep going 'damn i used to be able to do this no problem' and then you have to switch gears and be kind to yourself and just focus on getting better from here instead of berating yourself for dropping the good habits in the first place??? and your body never stops aging so you gotta keep taking care of it and sometimes you gotta take care of it extra in certain areas because of things that happened when you were younger and it's boring and sometimes hurts but it's so necessary???
i am yelling this at myself right now i am going through An Experience (trying to get into a routine of body maintenance again for my physical and mental health)
