UNHEALTHY, NEURODIVERGENT GOOD OMENS BRAINROT
It really gets to me - how my brain was my own (my obsessions, emotions and intrusive thoughts were about me, my life, my relationships) until I watched that last episode.
I’d seen Season 1 a couple of years back and thought it was cute. I noticed the #ineffablehusbands hashtag via Instagram and I remember thinking “aww” - I didn’t care all that much. It wasn’t a Thing for me.
And then I notice season 2 is out on Prime, I wait a couple of weeks to see it and then, having finished some other shows I needed something new to watch while walking on my treadmill.
First episodes were… cozy. I shamefully have to admit I went “oh, right, they had that impossible love thing going on” when watching these episodes, and I thought it would be nice if they got together by the end, and it certainly looked like it was heading there, in a meandering, fuzzy way.
By the fifth episode I’m quite invested, of course, and after Beelz and Gab revealed their love in episode six, I was like YEAH, now Aziraphale and Crowley kinda gotta, don’t they? Still no brainrot yet, just the regular “I’ve watched almost all of this show now and the main characters are into each other, so I’m rooting for them”.
And then, of course, the Final Fifteen. It took me from [casual viewer in her 30s] to [teenaged, autistic me, alone in my room all of the equivalent of junior high, obsessively teaching myself to read and understand Elvish, sewing elven dresses for myself that I wore to school, listening to nothing but Gregorian chants and the LotR soundtrack, watching the movie until the cassette was ruined].
I’ve now read Ars Goetia, Paradise Lost and Dante’s Inferno. I re-read all of Jane Austen (and I’m not even a fan). I bought the script book, I’ve read thousands of pages of fanfics, and I’ve written probably 300 myself (of which some is published. It’s not very good, but it’s there, I made it, it’s the child of my brain that was born from this obsession). I draw again, and I haven’t for years. Everything I do and say and feel finds a parallel or reference within then GO universe.
And. I mean. I may be autistic, but since the days in my room during my teen years, I have lived. I have been around the block and I haven’t kept my nose clean, I’ve been terrible and terrific and out there, I’m an extrovert and I’ve made so many friends and enemies, I have experiences. When I was 14, I had very little of that at all. I did not see the brainrot coming, I had no idea I was still capable, I thought my own life had been dramatic enough.
3 months later, and I still can’t sleep. I see them when I close my eyes. I watch other kind of media and make notes for my fic. I want to break free, but God knows I’ve fallen in love, and I am BROKEN over this. Give me season 3 or give me a stash that lasts until then.

Hey, thanks so much again for being an invaluable resource!!
So I’m rewriting my fic from scratch again (OTL) and the plot is going to be rather complex. After some major on-foot travel (with appropriate timeskips), three different types of climax will happen around the same time, all caused by two well-meaning villains and their ‘gangs’ as it were. The 3 main OCs will have 2 canon side characters be a lot of help, each group hopefully with about 50/50 importance.
With this, what are certain factors in general writing I can be more lax about versus those I should tackle more carefully?
(Hopefully I asked this well haha, hopefully not too specific.)
Fan-Fiction: Things to Keep in Mind While Rewriting
1 - What Type of Story You're Writing - Just as with original fiction, there are all different types of fan-fiction stories. As with original fiction, fan-fiction can be character-driven (centered around internal conflict), plot-driven (centered around external conflict), or a combination of both. The story you're describing is likely a combination of character-driven and plot-driven, so you may want to keep Basic Story Structure in mind while re-writing.
2 - Canon Format - While you certainly don't have to follow canon format when structuring your story, it may be worth considering. If the canon source is a TV show, you may want to structure your story like an episode, season arc, or mini-arc within a season. If the canon source is a movie, you may want to structure your story like a movie. And, if the canon source is a book, you may want to structure your story like a novel.
3 - Avoid Over Complication - You have a lot going on in your story... three main characters, two villains with their own gangs, and three separate climaxes. It's not that this can't work, it's just that it's going to take some effort (and maybe a little trial and error) to make it work well. Most stories have only one climax, though sometimes the "dark night of the soul" plot point is thought of as a pre-climax or false climax. But three different climaxes happening at the same time is a lot. The one way this might work is if they're all related/stemming from the same event. Otherwise, you're dividing the reader's attention so much that none of the climaxes can have much impact. You may want to consider combining two of the climaxes into the main climax and use the other one as the pre-climax/dark night of the soul beforehand.
4 - Consider Reader Expectation - If you're going to post this story and care about people reading it, you may want to think about what readers will expect from this story based on things like canon, popular fan-fiction, and stories you've written in the past. While you definitely want to surprise and wow the reader, it's also a good idea to do so while not straying too far from their expectations.
5 - Just Do Your Best - When you ask what factors in general writing you can be more lax about versus those I should tackle more carefully, my best answer is if you want this story to be good, you should tackle all aspects of writing carefully. Things like story structure, plot, character development, description, pacing, balance of dialogue/action/exposition, world building, etc. aren't things you pick and choose. They're all critical pieces of a well-told story. However, it's also important not to overthink any of it, because when you let yourself get too bogged down in worrying about plot, story structure, world building, etc., all it does is hinder your ability to write, which isn't helpful either. So, all can do is be aware of all these things and how they work, then do your best to deliver on them based on your current ability as a writer, the needs of the story, and the expectations of the reader. :)
Have fun with your story!

How do you get past writer's block? I have a fic that I'm working on that is updating on a schedule, and I made the mistake of giving myself a month off in between parts and now I can't really get back into writing it. I don't want to leave it abandoned because I have a few people who I know are really invested and I don't want to leave them hanging, but I'm having a hard time getting as excited to write it as I did before.
Ok so I'm in a weird place for this, hilariously. Because The Answer That Usually Works For Me (TM) and that carried me through a regular weekly update schedule for almost two and a half years is, in fact, not at present working for me apparently my brain can write through a pandemic but not through recovery from the shit that went down in December/Jan so we found my writing kryptonite. However, I'm going to assume you're closer to 2021 Pasta than 2024 Pasta. SO LET'S GO WITH THE METHOD I NORMALLY USE SINCE IT WAS SUCCESSFUL FOR YEARS. Cause that's the thing: sure, I've written almost a million words, and pumped out chapters for years (ignoring the past few months) but I promise, I hit the same walls as everyone else even when nailing weekly uploads. But over those years, I came up with a fairly solid list of steps that I'd go through one by one.
Fun one first: when I'm in a block, I almost always try re-engaging with canon first. I'd rewatch my favorite episodes, binge a whole season, or even the whole series depending on how much of a boost I needed. For me at least that was often like Pavlov's bell, my favorite story triggering a flood of affection. I'd remember why I loved this fandom and the characters so much, and it could often kickstart my brain and excitement back into gear. If you really want to dangle a carrot and your fic touches on canon, focus on watching parts you're excited to get to in your story. A big one for me in TRT for example was the post-Nobu, Nelson v. Murdock episode, since I'd had that planned for TRT almost since the start, and I was very excited to reach the hurt/comfort I had planned. Even if your fic isn't following canon though, see if it'll give you a creative rush again!
So let's say step 1 doesn't work, either because the canon just isn't hitting the spot or because your fic is dealing with something else. In this case, my next step was usually to jump ahead to write a scene I was really eager to get to. It was often a short blurb, but it was always something I REALLY wanted to explore, and because I'm also a reader who likes exactly the tropes and plots I'm writing, I want to read what fucking happens. Except, fuck, I'm not there yet, am I? And I can't see how that scene finishes until I write my way up to it and finish it. This is my own carrot. Multiple scenes in TRT were written months or even years in advance, simply as a way to bribe myself. This is also an option!
But maybe this doesn't work. Sometimes it didn't. This is when it got a bit more serious. For anyone who was reading at the time, you'd have noticed that I'd sometimes drop side fics, either Matt POVs or one-shots. This was me, in essence, working on the shower principle (basically, ideas/solutions will come if you stop thinking about it and do something else, like take a shower). I figured if I went and wrote something else - either with less stress, or something fun and dopamine-inducing - the part of my brain focused on my Big Fic would wander around the writer's block beneath my notice. And it almost always worked, all while I still kept my brain trained that, hey, even if we're not writing This Thing, we're still writing.
But let's say this doesn't work either. You're well, and truly, stuck. Been there now and then. And, you're going to hate this one. I hate it but it works 9 times of 10. And it is: Write anyway. Half of it was spite. I was not going to give up my schedule, I liked my schedule. The other half was that I knew myself. I knew if I could just get past the chapter/plot/dialogue I was struggling with, I'd be able to roll along again. And so I made a rule: whatever I wrote didn't have to be pretty. It just had to exist. If that meant I wrote, "Jane chased the cat in circles and caught it. She was happy." then that's what I wrote. Because everything, EVERYTHING, can be fixed in editing. But you can't fix what doesn't exist. And so there were those nights when I would scowl and groan and snarl and bash my head against that writer's block until 5 in the morning, but in the end Jane chased that fucking cat adn caught it, it was written. Hilariously, sometimes those chapters have wound up amazing (likely because I spent so much time hammering at them) and reader favorites. There are absolutely, I believe, moments where you can, and should, see if you can push through.
But that brings me to *waves* now. A lesson I've only recently recently and with encouragement. Namely... sometimes brain no go and that's ok. My steps work for me 99.9% of the time, but I've done the above during the past few months, and it just... hasn't dragged me out entirely out of it yet. Sometimes, our brains demand that break, especially when things just aren't going great. There's a reason TRT had a break of roughly 2 years between chapter 4 and chapter 5 (feel free to check the chapter index with dates on AO3!). I had some life things happening and I just was not in a place to write, even if I was still busily plotting and planning and thinking about TRT behind the scenes. And that was ok. We're not machines. I came back like a bulldozer in Jan 2021, yes, and bulldozed through weekly updates, but that break was needed. And now I'm obviously taking a short one again while I recover from everything. It's ok if you're not in a place for it. So the last step is one I've been told a lot by dear friends recently as they helped me through this: be kind to yourself, and try not to stress if none of the above works. The story will always be there, and if TRT is any indication through all its highs and lows, your readers will be there when you start up again.

a lesson on style - i . [ ljn | njm ]
Tumblr media
pt. i, pt. ii, pt. iii, pt. iv.,  pt. v, pt. vi
you’ve always been content with being associated with one word and one word only: average. average in looks, academics and social skills, you’re just looking to graduate high school without causing disasters you’ll have to live with until you kick the bucket. when you’re paired with school king lee jeno for the semester-long physics thesis, you can’t help but think the entire situation has pretty much set itself up for failure. that is, until you strike a deal with your partner.  alternatively: an au tale involving lessons in popularity, eleven consecutive B minuses, a secretly sensitive, chess-loving jock, and an amateur sex tape.
pairing: jeno x fem!reader, jaemin x fem!reader verse: high school au { jocks!nomin ft. a super cute whiny ap physics genius renjun } rating: M chapter warnings: none word count: 6.1k
author’s note: this is actually an old exo cast fic of mine from my old blog that i had to put on hiatus (alongside myself, actually), for many, many terrible moons (see : 3 years, for a master’s diploma that is simply collecting dust), but upon re-reading it, i thought that it would be a pretty good fit for a dreamie cast instead!! i’ve been thinking about branching out and writing for different groups for a while now, and as a slow return to writing, i’ll be posting the edited already written chapters up slowly so i can also write ahead! for anyone who might have found this blog and recognizes this fic, welcome back! i hope you still enjoy it! for people who’ve encountered it for the first time, i also hope you enjoy it! :) this is unbeta’d (even after all this time pls), so please do point out any errors i might have missed while editing!

There are three things you had intended for your very average, simple, girl-next-door life:
1. Graduate high school with an average GPA, a diploma and a sigh of relief, without any type of valedictorian honors or the requirement to make a teary/educational/sentimental/hopeful speech about the past/present/future.
2. Get a desk job as the vice-vice-vice senior-vice president of an average paying company, pushing papers and typing numbers you don’t fully understand into a pirated version of Microsoft Excel 2000 to be able to pay your not very steep rent and eat take-out every other night.
3. Get married to an average-looking guy either named Jaehwan or Minhyuk, and have children that, like you, will have no particular special talents and will also live their lives as the average people that basically exist to make glamorous people appear more fabulous.
The back up plan is to stay single and have a very lazy, fat cat that eats more than you do.
There were three things you did not intend for your very average, simple, girl-next-door life, though:
1. Break your leg trying to do a somersault you can’t, even at gunpoint, imagine why you would agree to doing in the middle of the last pep rally of the season as – get this – a cheerleader.
2. Be asked to the homecoming dance by not one, but two very popular, very good-looking jocks who both, for some odd reason, manage to actually talk to you without either yawning or simply walking away while shaking their head.
3. Be asked to professionally join a teen-to-adult entertainment agency, after a 24-minute long supposedly private amateur sex tape starring you is leaked onto the internet and goes viral around the entire cyberspace.
In other words, your younger brothers have seen you naked. Online.

“_____________, I just don’t understand why you like him so much.”
Some people might think you’re an optimist. Others might brand you an idealist. The least kind label would be absolutely deluded.
It doesn’t matter to you, though — you, knowing exactly what Lee Jeno looks like. Wasn’t that knowledge already a good enough reason in itself for you to spend a very creepy, alarming amount of time wishing, just wishing, he would walk over and say hey?
And it’s not just that he’s so chiseled and his face is perfect and his lips are so kissable. It’s not that he’s got an amazing body, and is tall and muscular but lean at the same time.
It’s his eyes.
They’re like, god. Great pools of molten chocolate with just the slightest hint of swirled creamer and – ugh. Behind those eyes, you’re sure there’s a sweet, sensitive man who’s looking for the right kind of girl. His soulmate, if you’re feeling a little more like a hopeless romantic today. You sincerely, genuinely, desperately hope you’re that girl.
Yeah, it’s weird. You’re in high school. Your hormones are probably kind of raging.
“Like, he’s just some dumb, boneheaded jock,” comes the continuation from beside you. You roll your eyes in response, but say nothing to contribute out of a desire to simply not. “And that’s all he’ll ever be. He’s failing nearly everything, except physical education. Why can’t you have a semi-obsessive crush on someone who might actually have a future?”
“For your information, Huang Renjun,” You snap, turning to your best friend. You’re seated in the cafeteria, supposedly enjoying a simple lunch meal. That was, of course, until you had realized you were three tables behind where Lee Jeno and his best friend, Na Jaemin were seated, also enjoying their lunches in some very cool, very manly sort of silence. So you’d looked, and let out a long sigh.
It was just a sigh, for the love of God. It’s not like you had run over and fallen to your knees in front of him. And yet Renjun had just put down his triangle gimbap, shook his head, and asked you why you had chosen, out of the thousands of perfectly acceptable (in his opinion) people in the student body, Lee Jeno to give you unreciprocated affections to.
And your response had been, and will always be: just look at him and tell me –- why the hell not?
“Jeno isn’t what you so assume as a boneheaded jock. He’s a classy, athletic student who just… happens to care more about sports than the mundane task of having to read a textbook for hours on end,” you shrug. That had come out more articulately than you’d imagined, which shocks Renjun as much as it actually surprises you — something that you notice with a twinge of belligerence after his eyes widen. “He’s probably going to get himself a top notch varsity scholarship.”
“Yeah, if he can even graduate,” Renjun shoots back contemptuously. “And even then, what’s a varsity scholarship going to get him? Do you know the amount of people who actually get into professional athleticism? He’s probably just going to end up a janitor or something.”
“Don’t you dare,” you growl.
“Come on, __________, the guy is a douche! Why do you have to pick him of all people?”
“He’s not a douche! And for your information, Jeno isn’t failing. He’s gotten a good number of D’s.”
“Yeah, I bet his teachers have gotten a load of D’s too,” Renjun replies snidely.
“Hey, not everyone can be a star student, Huang Renjun-nim with all the straight-A’s to brag about,” you sniff. “And Jeno’s not like that. He’s a gentleman.”
“Uh huh,” he said, sounding supremely unconvinced.
“Why do you hate him so much? He’s not really a bully. And he’s not done anything to you.”
“I don’t hate him him, I hate that you like him.”
You shake your head. As if that had made it clearer. “What’s not to like? He’s funny, athletic, sweet —”
“I’m sure you know all that because you spend so much time with him.” Renjun sighs. “Why can’t you just like someone else? Why can’t you moon over, I don’t know – Mark Lee, the very smart, also very athletic and very active student body president? Or  Donghyuck, the physics lab assistant who, though not particularly into sports, has one of the highest GPAs around here? Or – I don’t know, someone like me?”
“Like what?” you say, distracted – Jeno had just stood up along with Jaemin, and had begun to clear their table, piling their trash onto their trays.
“Like – you know — you know – just —“
“He’s coming this way,” you hiss, effectively cutting Renjun off. Even though he doesn’t like it, he’s forced to turn away with you, even though he hadn’t really gotten a good look and wasn’t exactly trying to hide his presence from Jeno to begin with.
“So what?” He whispers before suddenly realizing he doesn’t know why he’s even keeping his voice down. “Are you going to offer to throw his stuff for him now? Is this what we’ve come to?”
“No, I want to leave.”
“What?” Renjun looks at you, then at his unfinished triangle gimbap, then at you again. “Why?”
“Because — I don’t want him to see me like this —“ you also whisper, starting to get up. Renjun, however, holds your arm, visibly confused and no small amounts annoyed.
“See you like what? So he’s coming, and now we have to leave?”
“I just – I don’t want – I just – can we please just go?” you beg weakly, watching them approach from the corner of your eye.
“No, there’s absolutely no reason as to why you have to leave just because he’s coming here,” he says stubbornly.
“Let go of my arm, please-“
“Just sit down, ____________.”
“No, I can’t, I don’t want to make eye contact with him — I don’t even want him to really see me right now—"
“Who said you have to make eye contact with him, anyway? Just eat your food.”
“Let’s just go —” You yank your arm back violently — just in time too, as Jeno and Jaemin pass by your table, trays in hand.
It happens all at once:  your chair falls over as you shoot upward from the force of pull, and you reel back as Renjun lets out a surprised yelp. You don’t go far — just enough to make an impact on the person behind you with your forearm and elbow.
That person being, of course, Lee Jeno’s best friend, whose can of soda was just by the edge of his tray – an edge it fell off of the moment you collide with his arm.
You hear three things after that, all close to being simultaneous with one another:
One, a very loud Oh, shit! from the guy behind you, who you had just bumped.
Two, a chair scraping as your best friend stands up from his seat, eyes wide in horror.
And, three, a bloodcurdling shriek from your own mouth as Na Jaemin’s half-full diet Coke splashes down the back of your shirt.
There’s a brief hush that falls over the room. The words that come after seem a thousand times louder.
“Oh God, I’m so sorry…”
The fizz of the soda pops and crackles against your skin, causing the now-translucent fabric to stick to your back like overly carbonated flypaper. Your mouth hangs half-open in shock, trying to find the appropriate words for the situation. Renjun looks up at you, his eyes mirroring a fraction of your horror from witnessing the situation. He mouths something that vaguely looks like “let’s go,” but you don’t want to dwell on what it could have actually been, otherwise you might strangle him.
A warm hand gently rests on your back, pushing the sticky, soaked cloth even further closer to me. You wince at first, mildly disgusted by the feeling.
But a warm thought strikes you in that instance – what if, maybe, it’s Jeno trying to comfort you, about to say something sweet and caring that would ultimately show Renjun up, and perhaps lead to the beginning of a wonderful romance that would blossom between the both of you?
Well, you like being idealistic about your future – especially when the thought of it involves Jeno.
The idea of Lee Jeno pressing his palm against your back, his hand only obscured by a thin layer of fabric, suddenly sends unnatural tingles down your spine. Color rushes to your cheeks, and you bite the inside of your cheek to keep yourself from smiling at the strangely embarrassing but not altogether revolting thought. Renjun catches it and throws you a slightly quizzical look that suddenly changes to mild exasperation.
“Are you okay?”
It’s the same question you’d expected, but it was not asked in the sexy, careful, and husky drawl you’d often heard Jeno speak in. You deflate noticeably, turning slowly to the best friend of the man of your dreams.
“Yeah, I’m okay,” you say quietly.
“God, I’m so sorry, I really am —” Na Jaemin bites his lip, trying (see: failing) not to gawk at your blue and brown-all-the- way-down-the-back shirt. “I swear — it was an accident, I really didn’t mean to —-”
You shake your head. “No, it’s fine. I should have watched where I was going. My… bad eyesight, you know.” Your eyesight is fine. You don’t even know why you’d said that. The situation in itself was already sufficiently uncomfortable without a lame medical lie.
Physically, of course, sure, what with your back still kind of popping and fizzing from the coke stain. But more socially, considering you now have two attractive boys right in front of you, unsure of what to do about said stain, while whoever is still present in the dwindling population of the cafeteria stares, very pityingly, at the still-spreading new pattern of Coca Cola on your shirt.
But what really knots up your insides is the fact that this coke stain, the obvious focal point of the situation, is probably the one striking reminder of the day Lee Jeno actually had his attention fully on you, for the first time in your life.
Which, considering what everything was, really isn’t the best way to make your mark on someone.
There’s a long, awkward pause. Suddenly, Jeno pipes in for the first time since the scene had gone awry, speaking in the slow, bass tone he had claimed as signature. “Do you need a jacket?”
Oh god. He’s talking to you. Not around you, not near you, not over you, not out of a conversation you’d eavesdropped – no, sorry, overhead. To you. In that, sweet, nonchalant cloud of sound that fills your ears like some one-man angelic chorus. You let out an involuntary, dreamy sigh.
Renjun, obviously hearing your response (or lack thereof), clears his throat, trying to prompt you to reply to him. Well, shit. What did he say?
“Uh — sorry —- what?” you breath out, still dazed.
“Do you,” Jeno repeats patiently. “Need a jacket?”
Oh, god. He’s going to offer you his jacket. Offer you. His jacket. The one that says Lee in that super cool varsity font that makes his name look even yummier. And that’s literally the closest you’ll ever be to him.
“Hey,” Renjun hisses to you in a low, annoyed voice. “Say something.”
You snap out of a mental monologue again, flushing a funny shade of red for at least the third time today.
You open your mouth, but no words come out -– at best, a very pitiful sort of squeak lodges itself in your throat and dies there. Your lips simply part and shut like a fish trying to process oxygen. You can practically hear the sound of Renjun rolling his eyes, probably going so far back he can see all the creases in his big brain.
“Yeah, she’d appreciate it, probably.”
Yes. Yes, definitely.
There’s the sound of rustling cloth, and hands, gentle on your shoulders, carefully place the jacket on your back. You catch a whiff of the freshly laundered cloth, peppered with the subtly faded scent of cologne that’s been religiously sprayed onto the fabric many times before. It’s heavenly. With a wide grin on your face, you turn to the two of them, more or less ready to lay down your life at Jeno’s feet.
But his jacket, pristine and crisp, is still on him, devilishly unbuttoned and lightly clinging to his sides. He raised a questioning eyebrow as you stare, a little too long, at the jacket that you’d thought had been wrapped around you moments ago. Maybe he has two jackets. Maybe you’re in the matrix.
You turn your head, trying to read the lettering on the back. You only had to see one “N” in order to realize that the embroidery read “Na”, and not “Lee”.
It’s somehow embarrassingly difficult to hide your disappointment, but you thank Jaemin nonetheless. He seems genuinely troubled, making sure your arms are well into the sleeves of his letter jacket before backing away, hands up like you’re robbing him on the bus.
“I’m really, really sorry,” he repeats. You don’t know how much more apologetic he could manage to look.
“It’s fine,” you mumble. “Sorry about your coke.”
He shakes his head. “It doesn’t matter — what I’m worried about is -–”
“No, it’s no big deal — nothing some laundry time won’t get rid off,” you wave another round of apologies away. “Thanks for the jacket.” A bit of sadness makes its way into your voice; thankfully, it goes virtually unnoticed by all but Renjun, who makes an unpleasant face everyone who does notice it (see: you) decides to ignore.
“It’s the least I can do. Sure it’s okay?”
“Yeah, thank you.”
The first bell’s ring, signaling five minutes before the next period, punctuates the short and uncomfortable exchange. Most seniors have a free period or two for “studying” – except, only Renjun actually takes that seriously. You usually spend it with him, which is, truthfully, a big bore, so you generally end up falling asleep on the desk until he wakes you up for the next actual class.
“Hey, Jaemin, hurry,” Jeno says suddenly, checking his watch. “I want to catch that new action movie – next showing’s at half past one.”
Or, sometimes, if you had a car, guts and a whole lot of charm, you could sneak out of school for the three-hour downtime and go to the nearest mall, grab a bite or watch a movie if you could afford it. Fortunately for him, a car, guts and charm were pretty much Lee Jeno’s strongest selling points.
“Oh, yeah,” Jaemin said halfheartedly, his eyes flickering to you. “You’ll be alright?”
“Yeah,” you reply. “I’ll have your jacket with you, fresh and clean, tomorrow morning.”
“Don’t worry about it,” he shakes his head, smiling. It looks genuine, but for some reason, you feel like that can’t be too right.
“Na Jaemin,” Jeno repeats. Jaemin backs away, offering you a last small, apologetic look before nodding back at Jeno.
“Later,” he raises a hand in farewell. Jeno begins to walk ahead, not even glancing back at you. It seems he had more important things on his mind. Maybe he’d been trying to figure out what was going to go down in the new Mission Impossible movie. That seems like a valid train of thought for him to be so unconcerned about anything else.
When they’re clear out of earshot, Renjun gives a very audible, very heavy sigh. You wheel around to him, frowning.
“What’s so —” you imitate his sigh.
“Oh, nothing.”
“Come on, Renjun, I may not be grade A but I’m not that dumb.”
“You were like a one eyed pony crippled by a shiny unicorn,” he shakes his head. “And by unicorn, I did indeed mean Lee Jeno, which is actually a significant downgrade.”
“Don’t say his name so loud, people might hear.”
“Everyone in this part of town knows you like him, _________. It’s really not a thousand piece jigsaw puzzle,” he chuckles, though a bit sardonically.
“Liar,” you mutter under your breath.
“Fine, let’s agree to disagree, then.” He rolls his eyes. You note he’s been doing a lot of that today. “You could have at least handled the situation better. Most people would have actually managed to say something other than uhhhhh…”
“I did say something!” you defend yourself, rather affronted. “I said thank you, and it was fine —”
“Yeah, to Na Jaemin. In case you didn’t notice, that stuff doesn’t really funnel down to Jeno —”
“It as good as does.”
“All I’m saying is that if you wanted to make some progress, you could have at least looked him in the eye and not choked on your own saliva.” He’s amused. You can tell. Except you’re not in the mood to laugh at all, so you settle with sniffing — very angrily — pursing your lips, and saying nothing. “What? It’s true!”
“Just shut up, Renjun,” you say tiredly. “Maybe I didn’t want to make progress then, have you thought about that?”
“Not likely,” he snorted.
“Oh – really? Really? You thought it would have been a fantastic time for me to strike up a hi hello, how do you do, would you care to have a cup of coffee with me some time? while I was drenched in coke from the waist down?”
“I’m just saying, if you’re trying to be an opportunist, you can’t really be picky about when you make your move.”
“I don’t understand you,” You throw your hands up in the air. “First you tell me to stay away from him, and now you’re telling me to think back upon the fact that I didn’t make a move when I should have?”
“It’s called reverse psychology,” he said, after a moment’s pause of consideration. “Like, I’m telling you now yeah, go for it, but then in your mind, another voice is going maybe it’s not such a good idea, especially if the only time we ever get to talk is when I’ve been splashed by coke and I can’t even form coherent sentences.”
“Oh, well, shit,” You mutter sarcastically. “Why didn’t I figure that out?”
“Given time, you might have. I have so much faith in your intelligence, even though you refuse to use it.”
“I doubt it.” You mumble under your breath. He falls quiet, and you sniff again, not because you really feel the need to but because you want to express how miffed you are at the very, very sudden and bad turn of events.
“___________,” Renjun begins in a slower, considerably kinder tone after moment of actual silence. “Are you all right?”
“Fantastic,” you sigh. “Got coke dumped on my back, in front of forty percent of the student population, I smell like a soda parlor and I choked on my own saliva in front of Lee flipping Jeno.”
“That’s a good estimation — forty percent,” Renjun approves.
“Wow, thank you.”
“Hey, it’s not all bad. For the rest of the day, your last name is Na,” he says, trying to cheer you up. You sniff for the third time in a row, nose now raw with the habit.
“I’d much rather it were Lee.”
                                                         *:・゚✧*:・゚✧
You part ways in last period, Renjun heading off to what he calls AP Physics and what you like to call AP Torture. You, however, had managed to stay very happily in the physics lesson for normal people, despite Renjun’s constant badgering for you to just work harder so that you both could be AP Torture lab partners together. You’ve declined, quite politely, on more than one occasion. Average is your specialty.
Never mind the fact that Lee Jeno was in your Physics class, only three stations away from you. It’s not the reason you’re staying, but you’d be a liar if you ever said it hadn’t served as one of the many excellent justifications.
He’s already there when you walk into class, yawning and twirling his pen in between his fingers. Your breathing hitches a little as you take the glorious sight of him in, but you scold yourself for a hot minute, reminding yourself that cool people don’t ever show when they’re feeling any other emotion than the one called cool. You do a pretty good job (well, it feels like a good job) of making yourself seem calm and aloof, remaining seemingly unaware of his presence as you walk past him over to your station to sit down on your stool.
You should have been able to skate by with the whole act, too, except you stupidly take the time to sneak a glance at him, causing you to miss the surface of your station and drop your books so loudly you feel like the people in the next classroom hear it too.
Face burning to about the average temperature of a summer’s day in the Sahara Desert, you scoop up all your books and shove them onto the untrustworthy station table. Luckily, when you cast a furtive look at Jeno, he makes no indication that he had noticed the racket you’d made. His head is still turned to the front, finger performing a mini-exhibition of pen twirling.
“Hey,___________, have a good term break?”
“Hey, Donghyuck,” you greet, sliding into your seat. “Pretty good, how was yours?”
Lee Donghyuck, another physics genius with a strangely buddy-buddy relationship with the head of the Natural Sciences Department at school. He and the chair, Choi Jiwoo (who Donghyuck fondly refers to as “Jiwoo-nim”, for some inexplicable reason), are pretty tight, which is probably why Donghyuck landed himself a position as ‘teaching assistant’ in the basic Physics class, where he can tell you what you’re doing wrong and grade your quizzes instead of having to attend whatever boring lecture they had going in AP Physics, which he probably would have aced anyway. You’re not sure if he gets paid, or whatever, but you know it sure beats the hell out of staring at a Powerpoint all day.
You’re also pretty sure they put you in a station close to the teaching assistant’s desk because of that weird chemistry incident last year when Park Gaeun got her eyebrows burned off.  You know they think it had been your fault because you were the one who had screamed and filled a beaker of water to splash onto her face when she was screaming (too) and going around in small circles like a blind chicken.
Except it wasn’t your fault – you don’t even know how it had happened. You had sworn it couldn’t have been you, because…
Well, because you’d had your back turned to Park Gaeun. Because you had been busy staring at Jeno, who was filling his graduated cylinder with hydrogen peroxide, his brow all scrunched up from concentrating. Which, by the way, makes the top 10 cutest things of the year every year.
But it still doesn’t change the fact that Park Gaeun lost her eyebrows and now has to draw them on with a pencil until they grow back, and it doesn’t sway your theory that you had been put in the station next to Lee Donghyuck’s teaching assistant’s desk so that he could keep an eye on you, in case you decided to like, accidentally electrocute someone.
“It was good,” he replies, smiling. “Do anything interesting?”
Well, you had tried to add Lee Jeno on Facebook, if that counts. Not that he’s rejected you; he just hasn’t accepted it.
Maybe today, he will. If not, there’s always tomorrow.
“No, not really. Mostly stayed home and slept,” You shrug, deciding to keep that Facebook thing to yourself. You and Donghyuck aren’t that close to begin with. “You?”
“Graded stuff,” he taps a stack of papers piled neatly upon his desk, and you raise a quizzical eyebrow.
“They let you grade the final exams?”
“Yeah.” He leans in conspiratorially. “Wanna know what you got?”
“No,” You pause, reconsidering. “Yeah. Nah – it’s low, isn’t it?”
“I wasn’t going to tell you either way,” he chuckles. “I’ll leave it as a fantastic surprise.”
“Fantastic,” you echo hollowly, knowing that must mean you had gotten a zero.
“It’s not as low as you might think. Besides, you can more than make up for it this term.”
Before you can ask what was happening this term, the door slams shut, and you spin towards the front of the classroom. Hwang Taehyung, the non-AP Physics teacher, stalks in, looking moodier than ever.
There are three things everyone knows about Hwang Taehyung:
One, he’s bitter because he’s consistently turned down for the AP Physics slot, which is also consistently handed over to newer and seemingly more qualified instructors. The latest AP Physics teacher is a young new graduate, Jung Yoorin, who is an average babe: pretty, fair-skinned, a slightly above-average bust size, with a surprisingly very, very above average IQ. You think the fact that she’s smoking hot kind of makes Hwang Taehyung a lot sulkier.
Two, he has one thing and one thing only in his wardrobe: a grey suit. Day in, day out, grey suit. Going to class? Grey suit. Going to a meeting? Grey suit. Catch him in the mall? Grey suit. Going to a wedding? Probably the grey suit. Maybe with a flower on the lapel, or something, to spice things up a little.
And the third, most important thing about him: He’s always, always in the process of getting a divorce with his wife.
And it’s not like he’s a ladykiller and is trying to get all these hot bitches off his back to protect whatever assets he may have accumulated with his teacher’s salary over the years. No, it’s the same wife, who is as old as he is and about sixty times bitchier, from the way you hear it. Except, you don’t know why he can’t just get rid of her. Or why the divorces never push through. Some people think it’s the really disturbing notion of make-up-break-up with a lot of old people sex involved. You prefer to stick to the theory of there not being an actual wife, and he just files with an imaginary spouse so that he can get continual pay raises for “divorce bills” that don’t exist. It’s not like the school does a really extensive background check, anyway. If you can teach and don’t presently do hashish, you’re pretty much hired.
“Donghyuck, give out the papers, please,” Hwang instructs, tossing down a clipboard onto the desk. Donghyuck jumps up and begins handing back your final exams from last term. “And are you sure you got this list right?”
“Absolutely, sir,” he says, sliding a paper over to you.
Ugh, a B minus. Not your worst, but definitely not your best. Meanwhile, Renjun is probably celebrating another well deserved A-plus in his AP Physics finals from last term.
“Fine, since I’m too lazy to look it over the class list,” Hwang swivels to the board, scrawling some unreadable shit that looked weirdly like Penis Tum Roadjet.
“Your Physics Term Project,” you stifle a laugh that Donghyuck shoots you a look for. “Will require you to work in pairs on a four-month-long investigatory research and experiment that involves any physics concept or breakthrough. And – yes, what is it?”
Park Gaeun, eyebrows half grown in, had raised her hand. “Sir, do we get to pick our partners?” You notice she’s pointedly looking at you, and you turn away, trying to look innocent. Judgy bitch. Maybe you should have roasted her eyebrows off.
“No, Lee Donghyuck over here has already laid out a masterlist.” The statement is met with a disapproving noise. “Now, as I was saying – what is it now?”
Another student, Moon Jonghyun raises his hand as well. “Sir, any physics concept? Say – if it involves the trajectory of a car falling off a cliff as it drives two hundred miles an hour –”
“If you can find a way to simulate that and prove what kind of significance it has to today’s society, I won’t stop you,” Hwang Taehyung says dryly, though his tone suggests that if anyone did manage to simulate a speeding car falling off a cliff again and again for this project, they might as well give themselves an F and be done with it. Moon Jonghyun sobers down, looking sulky. Clearly, he’d cottoned on as well.
“Now, when I read your name off the masterlist, find your partner – I’m assuming you’re all familiar with each other? You should be. You can spend the rest of the period discussing what you want to do. Turn in your short proposals by the end of the week.”
Everyone sits up a bit straighter, listening very hard for their names attached to their partners.
“Jeong Jisoo and Kim Minhyuk. Park Gaeun, Oh Taekyung. Min Taehee, Moon Jonghyun. Lee Jeno, ____________.”
As though in slow motion, you watch his head turn, his eyes searching briefly before they land on you. You feel your mouth go dry, and you see him, as though from a dream, stand up and walk towards your station.
Oh God, oh God, oh God. What are you going to do? Shit, shit, he’s still looking at you. Okay, be cool. Oh God, You’re going to have a heart attack.
As he takes the last few steps towards you, you run a hand through your hair. You think, maybe you should smile. But would that creep him out? But would it make you seem too cold if you didn’t smile? The end result of that debate is a painful, lopsided thing that looked more like a grimace than a grin.
“Hey,” he greets, setting his book down atop the station. He blinks once, very briefly, and it looks like all the lights in his head have gone out before something clicks in his mind. “You’re that girl right? The one in the cafeteria?”
He remembers you, though. You nod, speechless — actually, not trusting yourself to speak.
“How’s your shirt?”
You lick your lips, trying to get them to move again. “Fi-fi-fine?” You say breathlessly.
“Cool,” he blinks once again. “So — uh, I’m Jeno, by the way.”
And then he sticks out his open palm and holds it in midair. You have to hold your wrist to stop your fingers from trembling against his. You briefly grasp his hand, and he holds it for a brief moment before letting it go.
“I’m – I’m __________.”
“___________,” he repeats. “Okay, __________. Know anything about this physics stuff?”
“Well – I – uh,” You push your books back with your elbow, covering your embarrassing B-minus in case he wants to see what you’d gotten. “I’m… I’m cool with it.” Only because Renjun forces you to study with him and sometimes has to shove the new lesson down your throat when you'd rather be on Facebook trying to beat your Everwing high score.
“Oh, well, cool. Because, you know, I gotta be honest with you,” he shrugs. “Physics blows for me. We don’t get along. You know what I mean?”
“Mmm,” you reply, more or less entranced by the very confused, very beautiful look on his face.
“So, uh, will you be okay with taking the reins on this one? Get us a cool grade, and all?”
“Mhmmm,” you answer dreamily, watching the corners of his mouth turn up. He’s so cute.
“Fantastic. You’re a cool kid, ___________. Not sure why I haven’t spoken that much to you before,” he stands up, and you instinctively straighten up to look at him, eyes still following his every movement. He gives you a light pat on the shoulder, and all you can think of is how he’s touched you twice today. “So -– is that it? Are we good here?” He asks. You don’t know where your voice is again, so you just nod in response. “Cool. See you tomorrow.”
He glances at the now-empty teacher’s table — Hwang had left the class alone to plan — and then over at Donghyuck, who’s looking through an unclaimed exam paper of an absentee and probably laughing at all the stuff they got wrong.
“Hey, Lee Donghyuck, I’m going ahead.” Without waiting for a response from the teacher’s assistant, he eases out of the station and exits the room. No one seems to find this the least bit unusual.
“You’re with Jeno; that’s tough,” Donghyuck frowns, putting down the exam paper. You notice that there’s a really large, proud D on it that he must have really taken the time to write out. “He’s not doing well in this class. It looks like he’s going to need at least a B-plus to get him to graduate.”
“We’ll get whatever grade he needs,” you reply, your eyes still on the door as if you’re expecting he’d come back through and take you with him.
“Yeah – so you got a plan, already? You guys planned quickly. Everyone else just sat down.”
“Yeah, we have a plan.”
“So? What are you doing?”
“It’s – well, it’s a secret; I can’t give it all away, can I?” You snap out of your daze long enough to give an answer that isn’t just parroting back whatever you can hear above the noise in the room.
“Okay, okay,” he chuckles. “Keep your secrets then. But it better be good. You know I’m grading fifty percent, right?”
“Well, you better give me that fifty percent, then,” You raise your eyebrows.
“We’ll see,” he laughs, standing up from his spot. He pats you once lightly on the shoulder before leaving to walk around to see what kind of progress everyone else is making. You note that it feels nothing like how Jeno had done it.
It’s only now that you realize you’ve hit a big snag by making that brash promise to Jeno. You don’t know anything about physics. You chew on your bottom lip, watching everyone draw up ideas left and right for the term project. Some people already have five ideas written down. You have zero. Plus, your partner’s already gone.
You knead your brow in frustration, slightly hating the moony-eyed part of yourself and wondering why you always let it take the reins during important situations. You can’t let Jeno down, but there’s no one you can ask for help here either; this class is a competition now, not collaboration. You think about asking Donghyuck for some tips before remembering that you had already told him you and Jeno had a plan. Besides, whatever question you’d come up with, he’d probably just laugh at hysterically inside; nothing could match his AP Phy–
AP Physics.
And if there were a moment you would choose to thank a God you don’t fully believe in for making Huang Renjun your best friend, it would pretty much be right now.

Can’t Stay Away’s Fic Rec Friday Post #4
12.22.23
Tumblr media
My ao3 Bookmarks (if it’s bookmarked, it’s usually a completed fic)
Fic Rec Friday Intro and FAQ
I can’t do multiple posts with elaborate reviews/commentary today. I just wanted to say that over the last few months, while I was grappling with this overwhelmingly depressive sense of doom, profound sadness, hopelessness, and apathy, reading fanfiction was one of the most effective types of escapism I engaged in.
So, here are the fics that I have been reading, keeping track of, and loving:
Almost anything @bardocksheadband-fanfics, but especially:
1. The Re-Education of Mr. Almehen
Tumblr media
Fandom: Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
Pairing: Nashuri
Summary: “Namor's life changes in all the right ways the day his student's aunt picks him up from school.”
What I Like About It: It may seem lame af to describe something as “tasteful” and mean it as a compliment, not a slight. I mean, this is a Suga Mama Shuri and a Baby Boy Namor (whom I call Ch’ah in my head) but not in the way you think. It’s a rom-com! It’s sexy, it’s funny, it’s adorable. And these two kinky assholes are in love! Also, he’s a kindergarden teacher; a good one. The way he is written with these kids just makes my ovaries quiver.
2. Filthy Mouth
Tumblr media
Fandom: Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
Pairing: Nashuri
Summary: Single father Namor goes on his first blind date and gets his world rocked.
What I Like About It: Almost the same as above, but in reverse! Though more of a straightforward relationship dynamic, not a kept man/woman scenario at all. More of a freak in sheets, lady in the streets situation. But again, there is love and devotion, as there always is with this pairing (well, when writers stay away from the darker dynamics of the ship). This is absolutely amazing. Superbly written, well-paced, tonally balanced, funny, sexy, and somewhat dramatic but not anxiety-inducing. Like, literally perfect.
_______
Almost anything @zzbottomz, but especially:
unfaithful
Tumblr media
Fandom: Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
Pairing: Nashuri/Loshuri
Summary: Shuri’s world unravels when she discovers her husband Namor’s infidelity, leading to a heart-wrenching divorce. Amidst the chaos, she finds solace in Loki, a charming entrepreneur with a complicated past of his own. As their unexpected romance flourishes, Shuri grapples with co-parenting challenges, the complexities of new love, and unresolved feelings.
What I Like About It: I mean, I didn’t think that a Love Triangle between Shuri, Loki, and Namor would be so intriguing. That it would be utterly confusing as to who you want to root for. That you would feel your heart beat for the plight of each character. There’s so much at stake, but especially the happiness of a little boy caught in the middle of the mess adults can make of their lives. It’s drama personified, and I live for each installment. Plus, Loki is written so well here, it’s hard not to root for him.
_______
A new writer, or a seasoned one, returned from a long hiatus, inspired by Shuri and Namor:
Before everything by stories_of_grace
Tumblr media
Fandom: Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
Pairing: Nashuri
Summary: A year after her mother’s death, Shuri burns her mourning clothes on the beach in Haiti and wakes up not only back in Talokan, but also back in time. Given the chance to do things differently, can she prevent her mother’s death and convince Namor of a peaceful alliance?
What I Like About It: THIS fic is everything I want in a Nashuri. It is another “What If” scenario, mapped and tread carefully. We’ve all imagined what could have been if it had been different, as Namor lamented on the beach that day just after he speared the Black Panther, right before she almost killed him and forced him to yield to her. Go read this! It is so satisfying!
______
There are others, but ta for now! Please enjoy your holidays!

no one asked but here is a list of my favorite samdean fics, in no particular order:
streams and side alleys - thecapn
- Summary: AU. Dean grows up in the backseat of a 1967 Chevy Impala. Sam grows up in foster care.
- 55,205 words
- Okay I lied I said this list had no particular order but this is actually my favorite samdean fic. I can't even put into words why. Just thinking about it makes me emotional. Beautifully written.
- Link
Buy You a Mockingbird - candle_beck
- Summary: A genuine horror story.
- 10,272 words
- A four words long summary and no tags. I don't want to say much because going in blind is the best thing you can do. Outsider's point of view. Incredibly well written. One of those fics I'll never forget
- Link
Pine Sweat - applecrumbledore
- Summary: Sam watched Dean hack up firewood with his hatchet. The magically-induced heat wave had his shirt soaked with sweat.
“Did you ever have a, uh… experimental phase?” Sam smacked his lips, trying to think of a diplomatic way to phrase it. “That kid—by which I mean you—has been staring. At me. Kind of a lot.”
(Sam and Dean get sent back to 1996 and go on a hunt with their teenaged selves. The kids don't know who they are.)
- 105,325 words
- I mean if you haven't read anything by applecrumbledore yet what are you doing with your life ! This fic was so much fun to read, I was completely hooked from the very beginning. The angst, the smut, the characterizations... soo good. I'll re-read it soon
- Link
Series: Drywall Dust, Talk Aroud It, & Nothing Ruined - applecrumbledore
- Summaries:
1. Drywall Dust: "Did you fuck my math teacher?" Sam hissed. Dean raised his eyebrows. "I'm gonna need you to be more specific."
2. Talk Around it: “It’s just a truth spell,” Sam tried. “It could be worse.” Dean looked at him like he was stupid.
“Yeah, thank God we don’t have a giant, life-ruining secret that we really, really don’t want our dad knowing. Good thing he’s not on his way here right this second.” He scoffed. “Could be worse. Jesus. Good to know you can still lie.”
3. Nothing Ruined: Sam told Dean about Stanford on a freezing Saturday morning in February, curled together under the blankets on a pullout bed in a flea-bitten apartment in northern Montana, when John was three weeks and half a country away.
- 40.923 words in total
- I laughed I cried and I adored the smut what else could you ask for. Again, anything this author writes is soooo good! [*there's a fourth part in this series but I personally prefer to see it as a trilogy and the last part as a separate fic]
- Link
Brittle - thecapn
- Summary: Sam Winchester has an eating disorder.
- 30,027 words
- If you like to read about sam having an ed this is the fic for you. Ofc keep in mind the triggering potential of this topic as it is a central part of the story. Very sad but it has a happy hopeful ending. The story starts when they're younger, pre-series (pining!sam but no weecest) and then spans over several seasons. There's a really short second part that's so good too
- Link
The Last Outpost of All That Is - gekizetsu
- Summary: The world is over, and it’s a Winchester’s lot in life to cope with anything – no matter what.
- 59,037 words
- If you like stories about apocalyptic situations that focus on how the characters manage to survive and reconstruct their lives you'll love this. I was literally glued to this fic from beginning to end. So so so good
- Link
The Ballad of the Invisible Boy - dollylux
- Summary: This is a story of adolescence. This is a love letter for the slow burn, for Led Zeppelin, for the 90s. This is the first of two sets of stories about how Sam and Dean didn’t fall in love. They never had to. It was always there, this desperation between them, like a real, breathing thing. When they came together, it was inevitable. As sure as continents colliding, as the phases of the moon and the life and death of stars. This isn’t a love story, but it’s a story of love.
- 57,490 words
- I mean. What can I say about TBOTIB that hasn't been said already. A classic. Life-altering. [The second part (Two-Headed Boy – 205,783 words) is extremely good too]

Thank you for always answering our questions, and since you said you have lots of free time here’s some more ;)
1) How did you come up with the idea for The Black Menagerie? As I’ve said before, it’s delightfully weird in the best way, I don’t think I’ve ever read an AU fic with a plot like this. I’m very much enjoying it though and look forward to the next chapter.
2) When you’re writing longer fics, how do you stop yourself from rushing the plot? If I try to write linear stories I always end up rushing to the part I’m looking forward to.
3) Do you think we could have a sneak peek at a page or two of the holy scriptures? Of stuff that you’ve already written, of course, just so we can see how the outline looks.
4) Do you have any other tv shows outside of Wednesday that you enjoy at the moment?
5) Who was your favourite character in the Wednesday series? Outside of your fic lmao.
6) Do you have any little rituals for when you write? Like a specific place or drinking coffee idk.
7) Not really a question in itself, but I have LOTS of questions about teaching and I’m deeply considering going into the education world. Do you think you could send me a private message so I can ask the questions there instead of pestering all your followers inbox? If you’re uncomfortable you don’t have to :)
Thanks again!
1 - The Black Menagerie is in part inspired by this print I’ve had in my house forever, Morgan Adams’ vlog on YouTube where she has had issue after issue with contractors trying to renovate her own house, and the first little beginning arc is inspired by real life in a big city - I live in one of the “top rattiest” cities in the US according to the 2023 Orkin data. It’s a daily occurrence to run into some sort of vermin here. This was an average day in my classroom last year:
Tumblr media
They are not afraid of the kids, but they are afraid of loud music. The children requested Ozzy Osbourne and I’d turn the speaker at them and they’d go back in the pipes where they came from. (We have a new custodian this year and we have significantly fewer pests but I did have a cockroach go crawling over a kid having a meltdown already in the cozy corner in my classroom on Tuesday - that did not help the meltdown.) Rats are a huge problem on our playground and one day I heard bickering under the slide only to discover the children were fighting over who was going to get the ‘magic powers’ from a disembodied rat paw they found. I put it in the compost and still I’m waiting for it to come back to me in some way - I just don’t feel like I’ve seen the end of it.
But largely I just wanted to write something cute and different! Chapter two (just finished this morning) has some surprises so I won't give that away yet, but a little bit just inspired by the idea of local drama and tapping into Enid's vlogger side. AND ALSO - the Amy Adams and Emily Blunt 2008 movie "Sunshine Cleaning" ;) you'll see.
2 - I love to torture the reader first and foremost because it’s fun and I enjoy it, but also I LOVE building constant rising action and climax and then back to rising action. To me, character development is key and I can’t rush them through situations. That said, as I write my stories out of order I do often write the first draft of a scene that I’m looking forward to in order to get it out of my system, then I know what I need to do to ‘get them to that point.’
3 - Absolutely not lmfao my handwriting is atrocious and I’m not showing it off lol.
4 - Spirit High on Netflix was cool and I’m looking forward to the second season, I just finished Harley Quinn S4 on HBO, and I’m re-watching House, M.D. at the moment, and I often put on the OG Addams Family before I go to bed, it’s a 24/7 channel on Amazon Prime’s free TV service. I really don’t actually watch much TV ordinarily I have a hard time focusing on it if it’s not something I already have seen, I usually need to watch with Tracey to enjoy something new.
5 - I hadn’t related to a character as much as I did to this interpretation of Wednesday in a long time (hence the 1.4 million word exploration of what was next for her) haha. I thought Eugene was cute. Hated what they did with Moritica, which again - is the resulting 1.4 million word story to fix that. Morticia is usually my favorite part of the franchise.
6 - I write best in quiet, honestly “silence would be appreciated” - not even instrumental music playing in the background (though I’ve gotten better at tolerating that on the green music application). I also prefer to write in my bed against my skull reading pillow thing. And of course I need my Toasted Graham coffee from that awful “Seattle based-brand” I’m sure I’m supposed to be boycotting with just a splash of unsweetened oat milk in it in a 20 oz black Yeti rambler (NO HANDLE). I’m very exciting and…ritualistic haha. Honestly I /can/ write anywhere, I managed to write in my childhood bedroom that has since been painted a putrid shade of blue while my parents were arguing about how much money to pay the pastor for a funeral this morning.
7 - Maybe, reply to this with an honest answer if you are 18+ (not that I’m asking for verification but I’d feel better lol).

Binged Read "living at the centre of would...." tonight, and i am in tears, I just love love your writing so damn much Lola 🫶🏼 You grip on Characters and their Characterization is so strong. I have read every single of your Lone star fics till date. You are my Favorite author!! I have specially made a tumblr account to reach out to the beautiful writers of this fandom and appreciate them and let you'll know that you all matter so very much to us!!!
Can't wait to read what more beautiful things you put for us, i m specifically so intrested in ALTA ( just genuine excitement and want to share the Excitement , no pressure, please take your time,m very patient lmao)
Never Understood Grief so wonderfully and truthfully before!
Thank You <3
(ALTA SNIPPET BELOW CUT)
Thank you so much! The honeymoon fic was difficult for me to write (because I don't often write angst), but it was also incredibly cathartic. I think it helped me process a lot of my own feelings about season 4 episodes 17 and 18, and also made me think deeper about Carlos in particular and his state of mind in these episodes.
I feel honoured to know you have read so many of my stories! I hope they brought you joy <3 I think it's awesome you made a tumblr account to tell people that you like their work!
ALTA is finished, but it is in beta-phase. I'm not sure when it will be ready but I'm hoping to post ch 1 soon(ish). This fic has been so fiddly and difficult, I don't think I've EVER spent so much time nitpicking. I've re-written and re-worked the chapters so many times it's insane. Never write a mystery, guys. It's HARD lol. Here, have a snippet (it's unbeta-d, don't judge me).
Summer Break, June 2015
“Carlos,” TK sighs, sliding himself into the passenger seat of Carlos’ car, jiggling the ancient manual windows to wind them down, allowing fresh air in. Carlos knows he’s going to have to get a better car one day – he can’t keep driving around in something that has no AC in the middle of Texas – but he’s also a broke student and his father isn’t a movie star. Not that he’ll be reminding TK of that, lest he turn up to TK’s house one day and find himself presented with a brand new Range Rover.
Although, given recent events, he’s never going to be able to set foot in TK’s house again.
“Carlos,” TK repeats with a little huff, leaning back against the seat as Carlos backs out of Owen’s driveway. “Why are you so mad? It’s not like this is the first time this has happened—”
“TK,” Carlos exclaims, one hand tapping the steering wheel in exasperation. “Your dad walked in and we were—”
“My dad has walked in on us loads of times,” TK argues. “He has no sense of privacy, you know that.”
“Yes, but—”
“One time he caught me practically giving you a blowjob, remember?” TK interjects. “I think it was the first time you met him, actually—”
“TK!” Carlos practically cries. “How are you not more concerned about the fact that your dad walked in while you were riding me?”
TK shrugs. “I don’t know,” he replies, infuriatingly calm. “We’re adults and adults have sex, right? I don’t think anyone in the Strand household is under any illusions as to why the pool house was out of bounds for six months straight.”
Carlos has a sudden urge to take a random left hand turn and drive them into another state. He’s not sure he can bear to be in the same timezone as Owen Strand, knowing that he’s seen them in such a compromising position. On second thoughts, Carlos wishes he could drive to Antarctica.
“Seriously, baby,” TK says, holding his palm up on the centre console, begging for Carlos’ touch. “It’s going to be okay. I bet my dad won’t even say anything. I mean, he might make an awkward joke about it but trust me, he doesn’t care.”
Carlos blows out a breath. “I don’t know,” he replies with uncertainty. “I’m beginning to think we should move out.”
Out of his peripherals, he can see TK practically bounce in the passenger seat. “Some place other than your college dorm?” he asks. “Carlos, that would be—”
“I’m not serious,” Carlos interjects, then feels terrible about it when he looks across at TK’s face and sees it fall. “Wait, hang on, I didn’t mean—”
TK retracts his hand and brings it to his face, covering his mouth as he turns to look out of the passenger-side window.
“TK,” Carlos calls, sighing as he pulls over to the kerb and throws the car into park. “TK, look at me.”
TK turns back slowly, a sad frown etched into his features. “I get it,” he says, a little despondently. “I mean, I’d be terrible to live with. I know you think I’m spoiled and I don’t know how to do anything, and I do hate chores but I’d do them if it meant I got to live with you.”
“I don’t think any of those things,” Carlos says softly, reaching across the space between them to rest his palm on TK’s leg. “Sweetheart, I’d love nothing more than to live with you—”
“I do hate chores,” TK admits. “Come on, that part is true.”
“Okay,” Carlos concedes, allowing his lips to curl into a smile as he watches TK’s do the same. “If we’re being honest, you suck at chores. But I’m sure you could get good at them, with practice.”
“Maybe,” TK says, wrinkling his nose. “I hear you’re a pretty good teacher.”
“I am,” Carlos replies seriously, leaning halfway across the console to kiss the tip of TK’s nose and then his lips. “I want to live with you, TK,” he says. “I just can’t afford that right now. Plus, we’re young. Maybe it’s a good idea to wait until we finish college at least.”
“And give my dad more opportunities to walk in on us?” TK asks, arching an eyebrow. “Your funeral, Reyes.”
Carlos shrugs, trying to school his expression. “Oh no, that’s not happening,” he says smoothly. “We just can’t have sex at your place anymore.”
“What are you suggesting?” TK scoffs. “That we have sex in your dorm room? Because Darren is gonna have to get real cool with some stuff pretty quickly…”
Carlos shakes his head. “I was thinking more like abstinence.”
TK chokes. “Abst— No, Carlos. Abstinence does not work when your boyfriend looks like this.” He flourishes his hands in Carlos’ direction, motioning to the entire top half of his body.
“Was thinking we could wait until marriage,” Carlos teases, turning the ignition back on as TK squawks.
“Okay,” he says, “I guess we’re getting married tomorrow.”
“Not legal yet,” Carlos points out. “Guess we’ll have to wait a while.”

In a Land of Christmas, and a Time of Fanfiction, There was an Irritated Woman in Dire Need of a Re-Write:
Tumblr media
(gifs not mine - they're from @genyakosstyk)
So… I did it! I did exactly what I said I’d do here. I wrote the start of what could become a long-winded piece of diatribe focusing on how much Merlin the tv series could have healed us instead of hurt us.
I can’t tell if I’m overly ambitious, a little desperate (about anything and everything honestly) or just so done with 2023 and the crap-tastic news it generates. That and, I have this on repeat in my mental-space, which is more of a shed than a palace:
Tumblr media
(gif from @punqueen13 )
So that's fun.
It’s forgivable to escape horror or fear or fatigue or guilt and grief by diving into fantasy. And is there anything more fantastical than merlin? Merlin and all the promise it brings. Is there any wonder why fics are still being churned out for a series that ended 11 years ago?
So here it is.
Part 1 of one. I’ve written a short, five chapter thing. It isn’t a prologue, it’s an intermission between episode 1 and 2 of season 1. The chapters are short for a reason, but I wanted to give a mix of both Arthur and Merlin povs so do let me know if they’re extremely out of character – I can handle a little ooc, especially given the nature of fanfic but if I can’t hear their voices in my head or see them as I read, I feel like I’ve failed.
I think I did ok?
The premise is simple:
Arthur sees Merlin, a peasant he had a brief altercation with, use magic to save his life. He should tell his father about. He should arrest Merlin.
He doesn’t. His honour being at risk, he allows Merlin to work for him on the proviso that he doesn’t use magic. Ever.
Except Arthur has questions he’s never been given the answers to. And Merlin is – odd. He’s nothing like what Arthur’s been told a sorcerer is and he makes it all too easy for Arthur to drop his guard around him.
Which- well, it must be magic, right?
His father, his attendants and tutors, have taught him about the manipulations of witchcraft and sorcery and how they can twist a man into feeling empathy for the wicked.
The problem is that Merlin isn’t exactly what he’d call wicked. Arthur trusts his own instincts and they’re telling him very different things to what the king decreed. He vows to watch over his new manservant. The moment he commits treason, he’ll run a sword through him.
And in the meantime, maybe – just maybe – he’ll find out for himself if a man who turns to evil, can’t turn back.
I’LL POST EACH CHAPTER WITHIN THE NEXT TWO WEEK SEASONAL PERIOD.
But.
There will then be a wait for part 2 – if anyone truly wants it, that is. And if not, hey. I had fun writing this.
Other bits and bobs and odds and sods:
Will there be romance?
Eventually! But I do wonder with who you mean? And this is first and foremost an experiment about how Merlin and Arthur could have been if what when how and why. If Arthur had Merlin's full trust and if Merlin was allowed past the walls Arthur had erected to keep even Gwen out, what could they have become?
Is it funny?
I HAVE NO IDEA. I truly hope so though, at east a little. There's some seriousness ahead to get through first though, Arthur isn't just going to jump into trust.
Will there be a lot of differences from season 1?
I aiming for exactly that.
How much trouble is Merlin in? More than season 1?
Ahem, have you seen the below man?
Tumblr media
Merlin's in ALL the trouble. He just doesn't know yet that trouble is his home-spice.

20 questions for fic writers
Thank you for the tag, @anyawen! These were so much fun!
Answers under the cut, and tagging @sweetbabyangels, @mr-iskender, @stinastar, @aprettyspy and @thestalwartheart, in case you haven't done this already and it's of interest!
1. How many works do you have on AO3? 30! That number seems astonishing to me now, considering I started writing fic in earnest like a year-and-a-half ago. 😁
2. What’s your total A03 word count? 138,358
3. What fandoms do you write for? James Bond, Glass Onion/Knives Out, and I just wrote my first fic for The Old Guard fandom, which has pulled me in by the lapels and refused to let me go. And the very first fic I ever wrote was for Stardew Valley.
4. What are your top five fics by kudos? 1. A Good Man (Benoit Blanc/Phillip) 2. rain (00q) 3. open line (00q) 4. The More Loving One (00q) 5. Must Love Cats (00q)
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? Ok yes I definitely do and I love to *and also* I'm so sorry, I'm 288 days (yes I just checked) behind in responding to comments, because this year has been...something else. So, taking the opportunity to say that a) all of your comments are incredible bright spots for me, and b) I am working my way steadily through and enjoying your comments all over again as I re-read and respond to them.
6. What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? WELP (eyes my pile o' fics warily). If we go based off the fics with "Major Character Death" as a warning, for a certain value of angst, it's a tie between offering and and the wind at their backs. But both of these fics deal with grief, and the complicated emotions that result from the persistence of love even after the object of that love is gone, and there's some hope in that, too, I think.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? lmao most of the rest of them other than the two in number 6? 😂 this is a hard one to answer, so I'll list my RomCom-iest fics for now (Must Love Cats for 00q and in a space that they belong for The Old Guard). Special shout-out to 'tis the damn season, though, because the happiness at the end of this fic feels like some of the hardest fought, to me, and some of the tenderest I've written, I think.
8. Do you get hate on fics? No--I've gotten a few less than diplomatic comments, and a couple people making unflattering notes in bookmarks that I don't think they meant for me to see, but nothing terrible.
9. Do you write smut? ::offers you rain and for the age of the earth, and after as if I am a sommelier presenting you with some very fine wine:: "this one has notes of--" you know what I'm just going to stop there.
10. Do you write crossovers? I haven't yet!
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? No, thank goodness (knocks on wood).
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Not yet! #goals
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Use. Your. Words., which was a collaborative poem for 007 fest 2023. 😁
14. What’s your all-time favourite ship? I spent about five minutes hemming and hawing about this but you know what, it's impossible to pick. 😂
15. What’s the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? Like Anyawen, I have aspirations of finishing all the ones hanging out in my Scrivener app...someday. Probably the one I have the most doubts about is a 5 + 1 fic where Bond tries out different activities post retirement. I still love the idea and some of the vision I had for this one, but it lives almost entirely in my head, still.
16. What are your writing strengths? I think maybe I have a good ear for language, both in terms of the rhythm of sentences and paragraphs, and for conveying a character's voice or accent. But it's hard to assess your own strengths, sometimes, so that's just my best guess!
17. What are your writing weaknesses? I'm actively working on trying to be better at descriptions, especially in giving details about setting or background. I realized I give these things short shrift, sometimes, and want to change that!
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? I'll do it with languages I'm fluent in (and have done it with Spanish, since I'm a native speaker).
19. First fandom you wrote for? Stardew Valley, in What Dreams May Come.
20. Favourite fic you’ve ever written? Omg, another one that is almost impossible to answer! I think I have to go with all the flags we've hung. This is one of my least popular fics--it's a rarepair, the love depicted in it is complicated (though no less real), and it deals with light topics like, you know, structural racism in the United States. As one does. But it's a fic that's incredible close to my heart, for many reasons, and I remain so proud of this one.
Phew! If you have read all of this you deserve a cupcake. 💜
xoxo, Ani

20 Questions for Fic Writers
Thank you so much for the tag ((and drag)) @carbonbased000! this was very fun and thoughtful to do.
who is writing things right now? i never remember. i will tag a wide and perhaps not terribly relevant range of: @toorational @just-about-nothing @27-royal-teas @leyley09 @alienfuckeronmain @stereostatic @setting-in-a-honeymoon and anyone else so inclined!
++
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
65
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
968,103, but as i’ve said before, i have orphaned a lotta fic as well
3. What fandoms do you write for?
pretty much just Fall Out Boy, but i will occasionally dabble in something random! this includes tony stark femslash (not sorry, will not apologize), cobra kai, and anything about girls or characters who could compellingly be made into girls.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
The Difference Between Real Love and the Love on TV
Stranger Danger
Boys Next Door / Assholes
From Russia With Love (this is one of those random sidesteps, a MCU femslash epistolary)
Jet Black Crow
(As an aside, it is so wild to me that older fics have so many more kudos than newer ones—you can really tell that fob went 5 years between albums! imo this is NOT a list of my best fic.)
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
for years, I responded to every single one! then at some point i fell behind because of my high standards for trying to put the same thought and effort into my responses as all you lovely people put into the comments, then i became overwhelmed, then i stopped. I AM SO SORRY IF I OWE YOU RETURN COMMENTS, i read them and i treasured them and you are a huge part of the reason i keep writing. love u all!!!
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I only write happy endings, man! I stopped writing tragedies a long time ago. My angstiest fics are red and unafraid of living and In Every Universe. the end of Made One Way (Cobra Kai) is ambiguous and potentially brutal, depending on how you take it.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
um, every single other one! I’m a big fan of the gory fairy tale ending of The Boys Time Can’t Capture, and transmuting the hiatus into an act of mutual care and love in Sell Out Girl meant so much to me.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
not since my first fandom and god, don’t
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
yes, a bit, could probably write a little less about feelings and a little more about feelings if u know what i mean. I’m super into sex as a person so i almost never write about intense romantic connections without bringing smut into it somehow; they feel really tightly linked for me, and i think i also crave media with HOT and INTIMATE connections between queer people. In terms of kind, i guess i’d have to say it’s largely rushed vanilla emotion-and-orgasm driven scenes. not a very flattering oeuvre i've created here.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
mash-ups are my favorite thing to do! I especially like ripping off movie and fairy tale plots and making them stranger, or else taking a really specific constrained timeline from someone’s life or a piece of media and transforming it somehow. best sandbox ever. my craziest one is probably the coyote ugly / beauty in the beast peterick fic, Wolves Dressed As Wolves. and i love this type of transformation in everything, whether it's the weirdo gender shit i just learned duchamp was doing or katherine addison's destructively beautiful 'sherlock holmes except there're ANGELS' novel or the buenos aires re-imagining version of vivaldi's four seasons by piazzolla, my life and taste keeps taking me into the various ways we fold and refract and remake the same experiences over and over again through different lenses or angles or selves. to quote some author whose identity i forgot years ago, though the quote remains: "there are no new stories." all art is iterative, and the most interesting thing we can do as creators is deviate in new, unexpected ways.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
yeah, a million years ago on deviantart
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
yes! I have had a few translations and a podfic. I love it when people want to interact with my stories in their own way, all interpretations are welcome.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
one day i hope to be domesticated enough that @carbonbased000 can write with me. I used to co-write by passing the laptop back and forth with my bestie in high school; we wrote self-insert x-men fanfiction based on the comic books in like 2004 and it was an absolute blast; but generally i am considered impossible to work with, by both myself and others.
14. What’s your all time favorite ship?
i feel completely unqualified to answer this question. i have been driven insane by any number of pairings in my life. when i was younger, i was more interested in internalized homophobia themes in ships, because that's where WE were culturally in the early 2000s and where i was in relationship to myself, and i think each change and growth and greater empowerment and self-possession in my own life is mirrored in what i am interested in. i feel the most drawn in by dynamics between people that are creative and give me a new way to access and explore interesting ideas and themes; i’m a real sucker for shared art products and touring bands as unique and agonizing ways to connect people. there are so many different ways to express that someone is your soulmate and you'll never convince me throwing away all trappings of a traditional life in order to rove the earth and make art with your friends isn't one of them.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
do you not just block out your WIPs from your mind so that you can live in moment-to-moment freedom?? I am a finisher in general, i have a few peterick drafts lurking around in my gdocs but if they remain untouched, it’s generally because there are only a couple thousand words to them and i’m not very excited about the possibilities of the fic. there is a sequel to a meticulously historically accurate pirate fic i wrote long ago called Providence, i got to about 30k and then lost all of my extremely painstaking notes and research in a software update. I’m still very interested in and excited by the idea, but i lost the notes and felt too traumatized to continue with the project genuinely a decade ago, so the idea that i will return and finish the fic seems fairly unlikely. Providence is one of my greatest pieces of writing ever, though, so hope springs eternal, i guess!
16. What are your writing strengths?
lyrical prose and conveying humor via unusual sentence construction. i was recently told i write arguments well and feel tough as a result, like, watch out! you don’t want to fight me!
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
i am lazy and easily distractible, i don’t plot in advance, i barely edit because i get really rigid and have trouble seeing any other way to say something than how i’ve already said it, i have an unwillingness to delete and rewrite even when that’s the only way forward (see: my eternally 90% finished age swap peterick au), i use up all my emotional energy elsewhere and then neglect my craft for weeks at a time.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
sometimes i’ll use pet names in another language if it makes sense for the character, but i avoid this in general as i’m not fluent in anything other than english. I would, have, and do sound like a duolingo lesson.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
afi bandom, when we used to call it slash, when i thought i had invented it with my friend at summer camp, when i was 13 and sent her kidfic stories i wrote out by hand in pink envelopes.
20. Favorite fic you’ve written?
genuinely i almost always write things i personally want to read, so i love them all! except the fucking fixed stars of heaven, everyone knows that fic tortured me to within an inch of my sanity. My most personal and personally meaningful fic is Girl Out Boy. i have a tattoo of it on my arm.

hi sel!! #3, 23, & 24 for the end of year fanfic asks please!!
noos!! aaah thank you for sending 🥺
send me any number from this fanfic writer ask game!
#3 favorite line/scene you wrote this year
omg a favourite line is impossible bc i sadly forget what i write the moment i hit post 🥲 but i will say!! one of my fave scenes to write was the car scene from this megumi fic 🥺 mostly because it's personal to me!!
And you think, with your music playing over the comfortable silence you’ve built, being in his passenger seat one too many times—this feels nice.  Any other day and you’d hate traffic as much as the next person, but not right now.  Megumi’s eyelashes are long, pretty, stretching on for miles—and you wonder if this drive with him can extend to the length of them, if you can stay in this traffic jam a little longer just to be in this moment with him.  “Sorry, are you cold?” Megumi asks, interrupting your stare.
i always try to include 1-2 lines that feel ~satisfying bc i think my sentence constructions are really simple!! so to add some kind of dynamic to it i guess!!
#23 fics you wanted to write but didn’t
omg my wip list grows by the day noos 🥺 i wanted to write my ex!bakugo fic this year but am so intimidated by him that i struggle to start even tho i have everything in place alr 😭
there's also an escort!reader x nanami idea that i have but will probably never write 🥹 it's a skill gap on my end i think sfbsdhfsj idt i'm a good enough writer to give justice to that kind of concept!!
also wanted to write more for my iwa series this yr but figured i'd wait till next year when the hq hype comes back!!! (am gonna re-edit everything!! might reformat it too)
#24 favorite fic some unforgettable fics you read this year
noos... you opened a dam with this question... how can i possibly just choose one... are you kidding me... i can't choose one... so i'm putting everything under the cut... gonna give myself 5 per fandom 😭 (you can tell im very partial to friends to lovers 😭😭😭)
also!! there are a lot of fics in my tbr that i haven't gotten to yet!! and everything i reblog is pretty much a fic i recommend 🥹

My top-3 most influential literati fics.
By influential I mean the way I see Jess.
1. "stop thinking you're the only option" by theedgeofthedessert both on FF and AO3.
It's the ultimate best literati smut there is. Fight me on this. After I read that one I was never the same. I've re-read it so many times I probably have each chapter memorized by now.
Premise: Rory is 19 and Jess is 23. She meets him at Liz's wedding, they hit it off and Rory's journey into sexual adulthood begins. The smutty parts are so hot it's unreal. But it's not just porn, there's plot and also it's so detailed in Philly descriptions it makes you feel like you actually live there with the characters. It's amazing. Unfortunately it's not finished, but it's so worth the read anyway.
Here's the link to FF
2. "What happens in New York" by Hallon on FF
Rory and Lorelai go to NY to celebrate Rory's 18th birthday, but they get separated in the crowd. Rory stumbles on Washington square park and meets a homeless Jess who never came to stars hollow. Her new companion helps her to navigate the big apple in search of her hotel.
The chemistry between them is undeniable, the banter between Lorelai and Rory is so on point and in character. There's also one steamy moment, but nothing too explicit. The dialog is great, the story is well paced and well written. The premise is kinda simple, but there's something so magnetic about it, and the execution is brilliant. I've read it at least 3 times. It's definitely a must-read from me.
(The bus scene in my story 'Things I'd never say' was definitely inspired by that one scene from this fic 😏)
Here's the link to FF. I'm not sure if it's cross posted on AO3 or not. I have a FF app on my phone, so it's easier for me to read fanfiction there.
3. "Defending Bjork" by MahliaLily on FF
It's basically a season 2 re-write which is done brilliantly. It starts with Jess and Rory destroying the snowman together, and then their connection and everything snowballs from there.
It's great. There are glimpses into Jess's past. There's Rory realizing maybe Dean is not that amazing, there's lots of sweet literati moments, there's also angst and an unfinished sequel. Nothing smutty there, but the story is so well-written, it's great regardless. It's one of the most liked literati fics on FF, and that's completely justified.
Here's the link on FF

Talk Hockey To Me
(tag game)
tagged by @eliooliver83 and @oetter mwah love u both kisses
Tell me about:
1. The thing that got you hooked on hockey
oghhh long story for Sure. i became like. distantly enamored with it watching the bruins with my dad/brother during the 2010-11 playoffs like that and soccer were the only sports i could bother watching. then in 2019? i re-read check please, became obsessed with it on that read through, started following the players some characters were based off of - namely sid and segs. then segs lead me down a path of delusion and insanity forever. so like. either the 2011 bruins cup run, check please, or tyler seguin.
2. Your first ever fandom friend
was trying to think of tumblr moots but ! technically predates my hockeyblr era by a couple yrs. met @stickypucky through. s. stephen johns discord/minecraft server. in 2020! i think!
3. The jersey you would most like to own
it feels sacrilegious that i dont own a roope or robo or otter jersey?? so any of theirs. Need. would also kill for a mooterus jersey sorry that design fucked
4. YOUR player (you only get ONE so choose wisely)
if i said anyone other than miro i think i would collapse dead.
5. A pairing that deserves more fic
listen. i agree with 2124. u all might expect me to say 424. however. i would pay the first person to write 455 or 42455 a billion dollars. i need harls hero worship turning into "oh hes a bitch and i like him so much" ness. i would cry tears of joy .
6. Your favourite on-ice moment
OKAY . niche roopemiro moment i am abt to throw at u. first thing that came to mind was when they had a FLOP ASS zone entry moment and miro just barrels straight into brick wall roope and they have to giggle abt it from last season. it was one of my first gifs and ik there are better sets of it but. here's mine. sooo pathetic and stupid and uncharacteristic of their perfectly in sync asses.
THEN
link someone else's art/fic/etc that you love & think everyone should check out
first of all everything stars hyacinthed has written i hold sooo deep in my heart especially the 1053 fics. THIS ART STUDENTS ROBOHINTZ FIC... so special 2 me for reasons i am sure u can figure out. many more fics tbh but ummmm there are sooo many beloved hockey artists/poetry ppl/gifmakers/editors/etc i love the work of i have to fire off here. this is not all of them by FAR but. follow all of them Now.

Season 2 and 3: The Winchester's and the Terrible, No Good, Very Bad Demon Deals
Tumblr media
Season 2 rating: 9/10
Best episodes from S2: Simon Said, RoadKill, and AHBL I & II
Worst episode: Hollywood Babylon (Just boring)
Season 3 rating 6/10
Best Episodes from S3: No Rest for the Wicked and The Kids Are Alright
Worst episode: Red Sky at Morning (just boring)
Sterling K. Brown is amazing his role as Gordon Walker is great.
I wish the special children plot line lasted longer. I believe so much more could have been done with them.
Ellen and Jo are not the best written characters on a re-watch. I liked them first time but not anymore.
Love episodes with 'human' monsters
Law enforcement episodes are some of my favorites
Dean doesn't have the best mental health in season 1 but in season 2 and 3 he has really started to derail. Couldn't keep his father save and he might lose his brother to an undetermined future.
Sam does stupid shit when he is emotional especially when Dean is involved.
Bella Talbot is a Boss Bitch. I like her more this time around.
Ava is adorable even if she turns into a little serial killer. "I just helped steal some dead guy's confidential files! I'm awesome"
I want to know the story behind 'funky town' Did happen before Sam went to Stanford or when he started hunting with Dean again?
Honestly, Gordon acting like Dean wasn't gonna hunt his ass down for murdering Sam is hilarious
Sam always blames himself for situations out of his control. Makes me sad.
I'm pretty sure that the hotel in Playthings is an Antebellum home.
2.12 Everytime I watch Nightshifter, I can only think of this:
Tumblr media
2.12 Dean is such a simple man :" I like him. He says okey-dokey." What a fuckin dork. I love him.
2.12 Sam is so exasperated and bitchy this episode
2.12 Victor Henriksen was short-lived. Would've have been nice for the boys to have an ally in the feds.
2.12 The ending is amazing
Sam continues to believed that he can't be saved
Jared Padalecki is amazing and terrifying in 2.14 Born Under a Bad Sign
2.14 Demons really be trying to make the boys divorce
2.14 The Jo scene is so uncomfortable and the actors did amazing job of portraying it
2.14 I literally read a fanfic where Dean was in the place of Jo. It was some good shit not gonna lie
2.14 I'm pretty sure Meg was shocked that Dean would literally help his brother get away with murder. What's one more crime?
2.14 I have to give it to Meg. She was really trying to get Dean to turn against Sam and kill him. Hell, if she stopped possessing Sam after using his body to kill Dean, Sam would have embraced his dark destiny
Poor Sam. Dean knows what Madison meant to him in more ways than one
Wish we saw more of the lawyer and Deacon from 2.19 Folsom Prison Blues
2.19 Dean having fun in prison and fitting is so well is such a vibe. Sam's being disturbed by it was amusing.
2.20 Even in a world where they were never hunters, Dean still becomes an alcoholic
2.20 Wincest fics having DJINN are my favorite. Good shit right there
2.20 Dean wants Sam to be happy but not at the expense of losing their relationship with one another. Bruh, that shit is depressing.
Aww! Sam is Azazel's favorite
Andy is me in AHBL
Sam flexing his leadership skills in cold oak. Feel like a proud momma
Sam's first death hits hard. The relief on his face when he sees Dean coming for him. The last thing before death he sees is Dean allowing him to let go safely. And Dean just holding onto his world with desperation as his soul dies along with Sam.
Sam finding out about Dean's deal is heartbreaking. He was taken from his brother by a demon, finds out about his demon, he was killed violently, and then he is resurrected only to find out his brother sold his soul. Poor Sammy.
I forgot how shocking Sam's descent into savagery is. Blood thirsty little giant. Don't blame him though. I would be pissed off to if I was stabbed in the back literally and metaphorically
John really climbed out of the bowels of hell, saved his boys, and yeeted to Heaven
Dean becoming catatonic after Sam's death is so sad; his entire world just ended. Family may not end in blood but he is sole survivor of his own blood
Jensen Ackles flexing his acting chops with his emotional scenes begging for his brother to be okay and then having a monologue over his corpse is so fuckin good. Makes me cry everytime.
Demons calling Sam the Boy King or any alternative will never not be cool but it will continue to be funny
I like episodes involving their childhood and baby Dean tried so hard for Sammy
I actually didn't care for blond Ruby the first time I watch the series but I like her more during the re-watch. She is awesome and snarky
As much as I like Bella, she is fuckin dumb for stealing the colt like what the hell man. She reaped what she sowed right there
I used to find mystery spot funny but is more depressing than anything. Sam was barely holding on to his sanity and his moral compass was derailing fast
The way Dean begins to become more unhinged as his deal grows closer made my heart hurt
Lilith poked a goddam bear torturing and killing Dean in front of Sam's face. Gotta give her props; she had fuckin balls considering Sam's future. Guess Lucy didn't give her the memo or just didn't care since he was stuck in the cage. Having Sam Winchester on your ass is probably worse than facing Dean. Unhinged Sammy is somethin else
