Y/n was standing near the Red Bull garage when she spotted Max returning for his interviews. Without a second thought, she launched herself into his arms.

“Ahhhhh, I’m so proud of you!!! I feel like I haven’t said that enough,” she smiled as she pulled away from him. “You have, but it’s okay. I’ll never get tired of hearing you say that,” Max said as he looked at her as if her eyes held all the stars in the sky.

Max was aware that by now they would have cameras on them; the Red Bull team loved to capture any interaction between the couple. Ignoring all of that, Max pulled her close and kissed her.

For Y/n, all of this was very new; her last relationship hadn't been this public. The privacy of it all was something that was exciting at first, but after a while, it felt suffocating. When she met Max, she felt aglow like she had never felt before. It was only a matter of time before she knew that Max was the one for her.

And it wasn't easy; they were both slowly gaining more recognition, and people were ready to pick them apart. But as she watched Max celebrate his first Grand Prix win of the season in Austria, all the struggles felt worth the effort.

"I have a story to tell you regarding the last song of the night," said Y/n as the crowd erupted in cheers. She smiled brightly before continuing, "A few years ago, I did not believe in love, not in the way I do now. Have you guys ever met someone who feels so right that all you want is to be close to him forever and ever?"

"Being with them feels like breathing, like something you've done your whole life. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you, Lover," Y/n said as she made eye contact with Max. Slowly, the intro starts playing, but all Max could look at was Y/n, in all her element, looking back at him.

If the world were to end tomorrow, Max would have died a happy man. Lost in their little universe, the two failed to notice all the fans that captured this beautiful moment between the couple. Racing can take up a lot of Max's time, and he's not proud of the fact that a lot of times it comes at the stake of their relationship. But right here, right now, all he could focus on was Y/n.

The entire party, all Y/n could do was check her phone. She felt guilty; it was bffname's day, and it was supposed to be special, yet here she was feeling sad for herself. From the corner of her eye, bffname could see Y/n in the corner of the room, nursing her 4th drink of the night.

"You can leave, you know. I won't feel bad," said bffname. Y/n looked up from her phone immediately, as if she were caught doing something she wasn't supposed to. "No, no, it's not like that. I want to be here; it's your 23rd birthday; I wouldn't miss it for the world," said Y/n. "You know you can fool anyone you want, but you can never fool me. I know you like the back of my hand," said bffname. "If you want to go to Max, it's okay; you being able to make it was more than enough."

Y/n felt her eyes tearing up a little; even after being a horrible friend, bffname was still understanding. "I'm so sorry; I have been a shitty friend, and yet you are here checking on me rather than celebrating," Y/n said as she finally felt a few droplets stream down her face.

"See, I know that you and Max haven't been in the best place, but it's okay. I know it's scary; you have been with him for so long that even the idea of losing him is scary," bffname said as she wiped a few tears off of Y/n's face. "Just don't lose yourself while trying to save your relationship."

F1gossip: Red Bull driver Max Verstappen and singer/songwriter Y/n L/n were seen fighting outside by some of the paps. It was noticed that Verstappen had come to pick up L/n from a party (Bffname Bfflastname's birthday celebration). The two were seen arguing, and it is even believed that L/n was under the influence of alcohol. Verstappen was seen comforting L/n, but much to his attempts, L/n was not budging. Later on, Verstappen was seen shouting at L/n. It ended with Verstappen getting in the car and storming off, leaving a teary-eyed L/n behind. It is believed that the couple might have called it quits after dating for 2 years. This news has not been confirmed by either Verstappen or L/n. F1gossip: 6 months after their breakup, Max Verstappen and Y/n L/n were spotted together in Miami. The two seemed to be having a good time at the beach under the warm Miami sun. A close source to Verstappen reveals that the two have been seeing each other for a few months now. This is the first time the pair were spotted together after their public breakup. Both Verstappen and L/n have been doing well in their career paths ever since their breakup. Verstappen has won 2 Grand Prix so far and has seen a massive improvement in this performance as compared to last year, whereas L/n has recently released her 3rd studio album, with all the songs making it into the Billboard Hot 100. Only time will tell whether the two are in it for the long run or whether they call it quits again.

Y/n smiled as she put her phone down and looked back at Max. Both of them had decided to take a quick trip to Miami. "Do you think we'll have kids?" Max asked so nonchalantly that Y/n had to ask again to make sure she heard him right, "What?" "Do you think we'll have kids later on in life?" Max repeated. "I think I would like to have a girl," Max continued as he looked out at the sea. Amused, Y/n asked, "Oh, really? and why is that?" "I feel like a girl is easy to manage; you know, there are less chances that she'll end up like me," Max said before adding, "Plus, she'll look like you, so you know she is gonna have everyone wrapped around her little finger."

Max looked back at Y/n with a cheeky smile to see her already looking back at him with a look that conveyed nothing but pure love. "I think you'd be a great dad; even if we have a son, and if he becomes even half the man you are, then we did a great job raising him," Y/n said as she ran her hands through Max's hair. "I've not had the best example growing up; I mean, I know my dad wasn't the best, but had he not made all the sacrifices he did back then, I would not have been here. 'Max Verstappen, Star of Red Bull' I would have been a loser," Max said as he closed his eyes, soaking in his surroundings. It felt nice, peaceful even, being away from everything.

"A loser who I'd still love," Y/n said as she pulled Max closer. "Even if you do not have anything with you, you will always have me," she added. "Oh, don't you worry about that; I plan on keeping you by my side forever," Max said. "You just wait till I put a ring on that finger; after that, you can't leave me, even if you wanted to," he added. "I wouldn't dream of it," Y/n said before getting up and running towards the water. Their laughter filled the air as Max got up and chased after her, pulling her into the water with him.

Max should be happy; he should feel all the joy in the world; he finished 3rd in the standings after all, yet the smile did not reach his eyes. He looked around the party thrown to celebrate his and the team's victory and saw Y/n talking to one of the engineers. Max couldn't help but let the bittersweet thought take over his mind. He hated himself for thinking these things, but ever since he got back with Y/n, his season hasn't been goin- "She seems nice, Y/n, I mean," breaking his chain of thoughts, Max looked at his father. "Huh, oh ya," said Max as he took a sip of his drink.

"But she's not right for you; before you got back with her, everything was going in your favor, and look at you now; you're 3rd on the list. You can do better, Max," said Jos as he went to talk to other people at the party. Max hated his father for being critical about his relationship, but he hated himself more because he himself had thought about this.

So one cancelled date becomes two, and before Max knew it, he was constantly blowing off Y/n. In fact, if he comes to think of it, this is probably the first time the two have been out together in a month. So lost in his thought, Max did not notice a sad Y/n slipping from the party.

One of the workers at the party informed us that the two did not spend much time together. Verstappen and L/n, who have not been spotted out in public in a month, were seen entering the party together a few hours ago, and that was the last of it. We got information from a close source to the couple that things have been rocky between the two. According to the source, Verstappen considers his relationship with L/n a distraction, which led to him not performing to the best of his abilities after the summer break. Verstappen has only won one Grand Prix ever since L/n confirmed that the two were back together via an Instagram Story. It seems like it is finally time to bury the hatchet in the Verstappen-L/n love story.

Y/n knew that this was wrong. She knows that she can't keep running back to Max after he shows up, making the same promises again and again. At this point, Y/n can probably narrate it in her sleep: "I promise I'll change," "We are meant to be," "You're the love of my life; I can't lose you." Yet she believed him every single time. How could she not? They have been through so much together. How could she let go of all this history because things have been rocky between them?

Lost in her trail of thoughts, Y/n did not realize that she had reached the venue. It was when she felt her side of the door open that she looked up to find a dazzling Max looking back at her. He was glowing; having just won the 70th anniversary GP, Max looked like he would burst from happiness. Y/n couldn't help but match his smile.

They both slowly made their way through the red carpet, posing for pictures. As they reached the entrance, she felt Max fidgeting. "What's wrong?" she asked as she reached for his hand. Max laced his finger with her before saying, "Nothing; it's just that this is my first win of the season. I thought that this year would have been my year, but would you look at how it all turned out to be?" Y/n nodded at Max to continue, "I never thought I would spend so much time at home because of the pandemic, and I never thought that all that time alone would make me realize how much I have missed you," Max said before looking at Y/n. "Every second without you feels like I'm suffocating; you're like a breath of fresh air. Every time I look at you, I feel like all the stars in the sky are nothing compared to you," said Max as he caressed Y/n's cheek.

Y/n didn't know how to describe this feeling. Standing in front of her was a boy she had known for a long time, a boy who always wanted to prove his worth to his father, a boy who sacrificed so much to achieve his dreams, a boy who was simply madly in love with her.

F1: Max Verstappen out of the Sakhir Grand Prix on lap 1. Trying to avoid Sergio Perez, who was hit by Charles Leclerc at turn 4, Verstappen ended up on the gravel, crashing into the tire barrier. This is the 4th time this season Verstappen has not been able to finish a race. With one race left, Verstappen's chances of winning the world championship seem a little out of reach at the moment. We can only hope for the best for the Dutchman.

It is believed that this park was one that Verstappen and L/n used to visit a lot with Verstappen's cats. Many bystanders have said that the singer looked lost in her thoughts as she continued sipping her drink. It seems that everyone had believed the two would be back together by the end of the season when pictures of Verstappen with a mysterious woman surfaced, but much to everyone's surprise, the woman in the pictures is now believed to be Piquet. I guess we can say with certainty that Verstappen-L/n has officially come to an end.

Yourname: I had taken some time off from everything - my music, my fans, my friends, even my family. I was at a place where I felt something I had never felt before. People tell you that there will come a time in everyone's life where you will feel absolutely lost, like you don't know what to do with your life now, and it is very easy to say that with time you'll get through it and find your way again. What everyone fails to mention is how lonely this time will feel. You have people who love you and want the best for you, yet you can't seem to get out of this hole you have dug up for yourself. Taking a break and going back to where I started my journey made me realize why I do what I do. I have never needed songwriting more than I did during this period of time. As I write this, I finally realize that this chapter of my life is over. I have no wounds that I need to heal, no bridges that I want to burn. As of today, I set this song free. It was mine once, and it's yours now. loml out at midnight.

oh my gosh! thank you!! i really love character interactions and relationship dynamics, so i wanted to depict two girls who seemed like opposites - one cool and laid-back, the other soft and sweet. after a while they started to take on a life of their own, and i thought it'd be wonderful if their story could evoke the feeling of a shoujo romance!

i had a lot of things on my mind when i wrote the script... friendship, intimacy, communication... communication can be so hard! sometimes it's harder with someone you're close to because their opinion is so important to you. and what happens when you've got a character who's non-confrontational and has low self-esteem + someone who prefers actions over words, and would rather burn bridges than admit to feeling vulnerable? how would they get past that? i wanted to write their flaws as believable, and how their life experiences have shaped the way they think about themselves / the way they respond to personal conflict... but also how they learn from each other and grow ❤️ tysm for the question!!

Such beautiful art! I related to PG’s annoyance with her long hair, I felt very seen with her comments. I’ve definitely said “I’d like to forget” so many times myself, right to my butch heart haha. thank you both so much!!!! <3 a sequel is actually one of the ideas i pitched for my second book! my editor cautioned against it in case IYHM didn't perform well, so i ended up going in a different direction - but my fingers are crossed for future opportunities 😤 realistically, it will probably depend on sales... but for the record, i'd want to do one regardless of the numbers...

i have one more book coming out, which i'm working on right now! the timeline is a bit up in the air atm but i'll try to keep everyone posted. making a book is so slow but i'm so grateful to you all for waiting 🥺💛

Today felt like a pretty normal Thursday to you. You were still in maternity leave, but Nick allowed you to work two or even three days a week, if you needed a change of scenery or just a break. Just like today. Sure, Loki had to return to being an Avenger as well, but you always made it work. Besides, the others were happy to jump in as a babysitter as well.

After dropping Ella off at school, you drove straight to the SHIELD headquarters for work, leaving Narfi with Loki, who'd leave your son with auntie Nat for the rest of the morning, because Steve hated it, when Loki missed out the important briefings which concerned his 'development' as a resident of planet earth. Or in other words: Making sure he still behaved, didn't relapse and was a 'hero' and not a threat to humanity. In your eyes, it was ridiculous that he still had to 'prove himself' after all those years... After getting married and starting a family... After everything he had done for the Avengers, America and the whole world. But well... Who were you to speak up and change things? It was how it was.

Seven hours of going through reports and sorting files, you clocked out of work. Yes, it wasn't much you were doing, but it was something. Better than just staying at home. You loved being a mom, but sometimes you needed to see something different - and you were more than happy to rejoin your friends in hopefully near future and slip back inside your Avenger combat suit.

Instead of driving to school to pick up Ella, you drove back home. Loki had already done that; taking his princess out for a daddy-daughter date to the indoor swimming pool.

Arrived at the Avengers compound, you didn't even bother to drop your stuff first; instead heading immediately for Natasha's. Your motherly instincts were literally screaming at you by now to go see your baby son. So, you did.

Your best friend opened the door to her apartment for you with a huge smile and little Narfi on her arms; dressed in his white sweatpants and matching jumper. He looked like a baby smurf - which was probably one of the cutest things you had ever seen and would get certainly never tired of seeing again. "Mama!" Narfi squeaked happily from behind his pacifier as soon as his beautiful ruby eyes registered you; impatiently squirming in his auntie's arms. "Hiii, baby boy!" You smiled brightly and immediately took him into your arms. His adorable giggle urged to your ears; causing you to smooch his little cheek with kisses, and once you had thoroughly greeted your son, you turned your attention to the Black Widow leaning now against the door frame still with that smile on her lips.

"Hey, Nat." You shuffled closer to hug her, what the Russian beauty instantly reciprocated. "Hey, babes." "Thank you for looking after this little guy here," you said; pulling back from the hug and gently bouncing Narfi on your arm. Natasha shook her head. "No need to thank me. I love playing the cool auntie part." "I'll keep that in mind," you winked, causing your fellow Avenger to giggle.

"Alright. We'll be going then. Gotta do some chores... See you around, Nat." "Sure thing, babes."

You looked down at Narfi, who had snuggled against you; head buried in your neck. "Say bye bye to auntie Nat, Narfi." "Bye bye," babbled the little boy in a sweet, quiet voice; clearly on the verge of dozing off. Natasha smiled and waved at Narfi, "Bye bye, маленький смурф." who instantly lifted a small hand to wave back. Smiling and bidding your goodbye to the Black Widow as well, you pressed a kiss against your son's forehead and ran a hand through his black locks.

Back in the apartment, you put the toddler down for a nap on his beloved floor cushion - which he mostly preferred for a nap, instead of his bed. Now that your son was sleeping peacefully across the living room, you had the time to do some chores. On today's programme: folding laundry. So, you spread out on the sofa, switched on the TV - but kept the volume down, of course, and got to work.

From your position, you had the perfect view on Narfi as well; having an eye on him from time time. Unfortunately, that didn't always keep him from escaping your watchful gaze. Just like Ella, was he his father's child... Sneaky and definitely a tiny mischief maker. Not quite as much as his big sister, but nevertheless...

You could swear that you only didn't look at him for five minutes - and suddenly was the floor pillow empty.

Shit.

"Narfi?" You called through the living room; letting your eyes wander and already moved to stand up. He wasn't in this room anymore. You sighed and shook your head with a small smile. "Little rascal..." You mumbled under your breath and crossed the living room; aiming for the hallway.

The good thing was, that Narfi couldn't get far; not having learned how to walk just yet. The emphasis was on the word 'yet'.

You rounded the corner into the hallway, "Narfi?" and found your son standing - hands free - beside the clothes basket, which he had clearly used to pull himself on his feet. At the sound of his mama's voice, the toddler turned his head - which caused him to immediately lose balance and land on his small bum.

Your eyes widened. Was he about to take his first steps and you 'interrupted' him? "Baby, were you about to take your first step?" Narfi was already pulling himself up again; using the clothes basket as a help like before. A sweet huff left his small lips once he made it on his small feet; causing you to stifle a giggle.

"Try again, baby smurf, come on." Narfi turned on slightly wobbly legs towards you; hand gripping the basket for dear life. "Mama!" You smiled and walked quite a few steps closer, before you squatted down and opened your arms. "Yes, c'mere! Come to mama!" You tried to encourage Narfi; a bright smile on your lips.

The smile got even wider, when your son suddenly let go of his support - and took a very wobbly, unsteady step towards you. With you mouth agape, you giggled. "Yes! You did it, baby! C'mon! One more?" Your happiness infected Narfi and he smiled a bright, toothy smile. Giggling, he made another two fast and wobbly steps, before he lost his balance and more or less stumbled into your arms. You reached out and caught him, before he could hit the floor; sweeping him up in a hug.

"Yay!" You cheered and peppered his cerulean, chubby cheeks with kisses. "Mama is sooo proud of you, Narfi." The little boy just cooed and gurgled happily.

An idea crossed your mind.

"Let's surprise daddy and your big sister when they come home, huh? They'll be so happy to see you walk." Your toddler's eyes widened at your suggestion. "Supise dada lala?" Narfi couldn't say Ella yet, so he settled on 'Lala' - it was the cutest thing ever. You giggled; nodding. "Yes, baby smurf. Come on."

The laundry was long forgotten; deciding to play with Narfi instead and helping him practising to walk.

After a very successful daddy-daughter date at the indoor swimming pool, Loki and Ella returned back home in the evening to the Avengers compound. The little girl's hand was neatly tucked into her father's bigger one as they exited the elevator. Ella was definitely tired and worn out - just like it should be after such a day. That was most probably the reason why Loki was carrying not just his duffle bag in his free hand, but also Ella's pink Disney princesses rucksack on his back.

Together, they stepped down the hallway and into your family's apartment. "Darling?" Loki called out; taking off his shoes and helping his tired daughter to get out of her jacket. "Mommy? We're back!"

The pair heard a small voice along some shuffling, before you rounded the corner into the entrance area with Narfi walking in front of you; yet gripping tightly onto your pointer fingers. "Hey, you two," you greeted them happily. "The baby smurf and I have to show you something." Proudly, you let go of your son's small hands - and let him walk a few small, still wobbly step. Before he could topple over, you grabbed him quickly around his middle; holding him steady.

Both, Loki's and Ella's jaws were on the floor; not having anticipated this. Sure, Narfi had tried to walk now for days - probably weeks, but it looked like he needed some more time to learn... Apparently not.

"He is walking now!" A not-so tired anymore Ella squeaked and crawled forwards and clumsily, but lovingly hugged her little brother - who didn't quite understand why everyone was making such a big fuss. He just squeaked along happily.

Loki met your gaze; his beautiful blues shining with a few tears. "Darling, he... Our son is walking..." He whispered; visibly touched, but you heard him anyways. Ella was already helping Narfi back on his little feet; his hands in hers tightly as she helped him walk down the hallway. It gave you the opportunity to step over to your husband. With a smile, you slung your arms around his middle; invading his space. "I know, babe, I know." Loki laughed softly and tried to blink back the tears as he wrapped you up in a hug; strong arms keeping you locked against his tall, defined body.

"We have to watch out now, babe. Soon, he'll start to run," you stated with a giggle, causing Loki to shake his head. "By the Norns, please not. He's already growing up too fast..." You sighed; knew exactly how he felt - and he was right. You rested your head against his chest, giving your husband the opportunity to press a kiss on top of your head. "Mhm... Growing up too fast, just like Ella." You felt the god's chest vibrate with a hum. "Just like Ella..."

Razor's grip - part 6

A/n: Hello, hello! I put a lot of effort in trying to make the chapters longer and I still feel as if the story moves too slow, but I'm doing my best. Hope you enjoy this chapter as well, sorry for any mistakes I didn't notice! 💖💕

Summary: Getting the independence you crave proves to be more difficult than you thought, sacrifices need to be done. But, what will you do if the sacrifice is your very being?

The tablet in his hands showed the girl fighting against the wanderers. Her moves were sharp, cool and calculated. It almost looked like she was floating around. Nothing touched her as her blows dealt so much damage in the vulnerable spots of those hideous beings that were after her. The man beside her was more of an accessory than anything, a tool for her victory, as she resonated with him, flashes of lights appearing.

Another victory for her, another day when he yearned for her presence beside him.

Even though something didn’t quite click. Something was strange, but he couldn’t put his finger on it.

Sylus looked at the watch on his wrist, a sigh passing his lips softly. The twins were supposed to be here with you like fifteen minutes ago. For a few moments, thoughts about accidents, ambushes cross his mind, but they are suddenly interrupted by loud laughs and bustling. He did mention them to assure that you are in a good mood, didn’t cross his mind that this will lead to the scene unfolding in front of him: the twins wearing cartoon crowns made of happy meal boxes, Luke holding two yellow balloon dogs, as Kieran was holding a pink balloon flamingo and a giraffe. Then there was you, a bag containing a fourth happy meal in one hand, three toys in the other, pink crown on your head, a sheepish smile blooming on your face.

“Sorry for being late, boss. It was crowded”, Luke says, almost preparing to be reprimanded for his lack of punctuality.

You slowly approach and hand him the happy meal. Even if you looked sorry, the smile on your face didn’t let itself be erased.

Good.

“You can go now”, is all he tells the twins.

Now that you were alone with him, the embarrassment was a little worse. After all, you were late because you wanted the three toys in your arms. The chicken burger was definitely an important bonus.

Sylus motions towards the chair next to him and you comply, setting on the coffee table the figurines. You watch his eyes analyze them in slight disbelief, before turning to you. His red gaze had a sparkle of amusement that almost spelled ‘really?’. You watch his hands grab an envelope from his jacket and offer it to you. Your fingers slightly touch his. Inside of the envelope was a card.

“What’s this?”

“A bank card, of course”, Sylus answers, almost rolling his eyes.

“Oh, thank you, never seen one in my entire life”, you exclaimed faking excitement, pressing the card to your chest. “Why are you giving it to me?”

“Because there’s your first round of money for the last week.”

“Week? I thought I was being paid monthly with 20 000.”

“Monthly?”, his eyebrows scrunch up, an incredulous look on his face. “Who do you take me for?”

“Sylus, are you giving me that much money for a week of work? Have you gone mad?”

“I never thought my employes will ever be dissatisfied about getting too much money… I must make sure no other offer beats mine, after all.”

It takes a while to get over the discussion. Sylus doesn’t wait for you, getting up and walking away, leaving you no other choice but to follow him down many halls and stairs. By the end of his little walk, your feet hurt. He opens a door.

The room he led you to was his private shooting range.

The gun in the back of your jeans still felt cold, no matter how long was stuck to your skin. Your happiness dissipated fast, making place for a chilling calm inside your chest.

“You need to know how to use that, if you want to roam around. Once I’m sure your safety isn’t a vulnerability, you’ll be free to walk wherever you want.”

“I know how to use it”, slips from you, trying to escape the inevitable.

Sylus just looks at you, waiting for an explanation.

“My grandparents live near a forest. Grandpa taught me how to shoot since I was young and took me with him to hunt a few times.”

“Then show me”, his lips pull up into his signature smirk.

A lump forms in your throat, blood starts rushing in your body. Your hand reaches for the gun, slowly walking towards the place where Sylus was staying. Even if years passed since you held a gun, your body remembers the position before your mind can. The gun feels heavy now, pointing towards the silhouette sitting a few feet from where you are. Sweat feels like it’s dripping from between your fingers.

You close your eyes, trying to calm your nerves. Memories are resurfacing – blood, bodies in mud, gunshots.

No.

Eyes open, body stiff enough, ready for recoil – your finger gets to the trigger and presses with no hesitation.

The first instinct to the sound is to throw away the gun as far as possible and run away. Breathing feels impossible, air burning your throat and lungs. Sweat starts to wet your palms and gun more than before, shaky hands falling beside your body.

A hand on your shoulder gets you away from your thoughts.

“Right in the head. Not bad. How about we test this talent of yours?”

At first, you didn’t know what he meant. However, now, an abandoned building sits just a few steps away. The ride here was a blur; the only thing you remember is trying not to lose your mind and throw up in Sylus’ car.

The building looked like a grey box, forgotten by everyone that used it some years before. Rain and snow must have eaten away at it’s walls, while the sun of spring and summer led to plants appearing in the cracks. There was no intact window. Looking at the sorry state of this place, you could almost picture a lighting appear on the sky behind it. The entrance was locked with heavy chains with spots of red on them.

Sylus walks in front of you, taking his time. His steps and composure were more fit for a catwalk than whatever this mission was. With no warning, the chains dissipate in a red mist, leaving you nothing short of baffled – for some reason, you can’t get used to his evol, there’s nothing like it that your eyes ever seen. Sometimes, you wished you had one, even though it would be quite useless in your life. What evol would you have? Doing quick math?

A small burp lets itself free with close to no warning, a burning feeling reaching your throat. No matter how much saliva you try to swallow, that stomach of your keeps burning you with acid from within. You try to excuse yourself quietly for the mishap and continue following him closely.

The interior looked more like an archeologic site rather than an actual former… scientific research center? You guess, of course. Papers, files, computers were scattered around, broken pieces that could not be recognized anymore. The ceiling was falling in some places, cables hanging from it. It smelled musty and old, dust filling the air.

“What are we looking for?”

“A safe”, he responds quietly.

To find a safe in a ten stories building was quite an interesting feat. It could be anywhere.

He walked around with no sound, his shoulders moving naturally with a certain power that captivated you somehow. When around him, everything felt safe and achievable, even in this hell hole.

You wandered around looking behind every desk, in every room, turning shelves – nothing. Until, a tingling in your being caught your attention. It felt as if something whispered that it was close and urged you to come to it, to come and get it. At first, it didn’t make sense, so ignoring felt like the right choice. However, the tingling, the barely whispered need to move, began to feel like an itch. Looking back at Sylus, who moved to scan the next room with something resembling a scowl of displeasure, you decide to follow the feeling.

Slowly, you made your way to a large cabinet made of steel. An idea creeps in your mind and you look behind it. The wallpaper had places where it looked like a small gap formed.

“Hey, can you help me move this?”

Sylus appeared for a brief second in the room and hearing your request he just slightly pushed the cabinet to create enough space for the two of you to see the small gap. It turned out that stairs were hidden behind this wall, stairs that led to the basement.

The darkness that welcomed you two looked like an all-consuming void, while the only sound that could be heard were water droplets falling in puddles that formed over the years.

The itch that caught your attention turned into something darker. It was still present, but something scarier and more dangerous seemed to mask it. The gun that burned your hands every time it found itself in it, now it offered a false sense of security. Your ears started ringing out of nowhere and through the corner of your eye you see Sylus get more stiff than usual. He stepped out of reflex in front of you, then stopped. Waiting. Looking in the dark. Listening.

With every second, the ringing got worse, turning into a headache that made your vision blur.

A wheezing startled you. After the wheezing, sounds of steps followed – many steps.

Blood started rushing through your veins, heart beating out of your chest. Every sound, every single thing caught your attention, but it was so dark!...

The hustling got closer and closer, and suddenly a flash of light ignited from the lamps that were hanging from the ceiling of the long hall. The light flashed red every few seconds giving you two the chance to see something that made your blood run cold – a dozen of deformed beings, covered in black crystals or with weird exoskeletons growing on them rushed towards you.

What followed was fruit of the survival instinct, your mind going numb, retreating into a safe place far away as your finger pressed the trigger as fast as it could. Bullets flew around hitting their target just right, memories of hunts with your grandfather resurfacing.

“Don’t hesitate, make it quick and efficient. A clean shot is mercy to you and the animal.” was something your grandfather would advise, making you perfect your shots, aiming at the most vulnerable spots. These words follow you even now, but you doubt he ever thought that his words could be applied in this fight for survival against such blasphemous beings that were once humans for sure – at least some of them.

A sharp claw gets to you, kicking the gun out of your hands. You fall to the ground trying to get away as the humanoid figure with sharp claws stabs the ground around you. The next second it nearly falls on you, but your reflexes kick fast, getting you out of the way. With your back slick against a wall your eyes search for Sylus who was holding a knife – most likely the weapon who killed the more or less wanderer that was after you. His eyes hold an undecipherable weight that dissipates fast, leaving only a cold shadow in place.

Walking through the bodies, you feel absent, cold within, until a warm, acidic liquid fills your mouth and you kneel on the side letting it all out. Your stomach pushes everything you ate today out in a fury and the sight of it mixing with the black liquid that was similar to blood, makes it even worse. Sylus is beside you in a heartbeat holding your hair in silence, helping you stand upright when you are done.

You turn to him, apologizing, shame and weakness stinging in your eyes, but his face shows the most emotion you ever saw in the man in the past two weeks – worry and almost-guilt are etched on his features.

“Let’s get the safe and get out of here”, is the only thing he whispered.

Back at the base, after drinking so much water that you felt like a balloon, and exhausting every way to open the safe, you laid on the couch.

Sylus was typing on his tablet, glasses on his nose. He looked like a statue in the low light, not moving, his face staying the same. His eyes were averting yours even now, but you liked looking at him. It brought some kind of peace.

Sleep was starting to grip your eyelids, dragging them down, until an idea flashed in your tired brain.

The code!

You jump of the couch, kneeling besides the coffee table where the safe was placed. Your fingers press fast on the numbered keys the code you dreamt some time ago and like a miracle – it opens. Your lips form a tired smile as you turn towards Sylus whose eyes were wide, mouth slightly open.

“Ta-dah!”

When you finally get back at the shop it’s close to morning. The streets are surprisingly calm, your steps making the only sound. You get inside and head to your room. Exhaustion makes you fall in your bed still dressed, sweaty and smelling like gunpowder and blood, but you are too tired to care right now. Sleep finds you easily, drowning you in its suffocating arms that bring you no comfort.

The hallway was longer than usual, with dimmer light and the smell of bleach was replaced by a metallic smell of iron. Screams were getting louder as you got closer to the back door of the facility. The sound of gunshots was also getting closer.

In a flash you end up in the backyard. Nothing could prepare you for the image that you would witness. The rain was pouring. The backyard was full of ‘patients’, as they called them, either on the ground in weird positions, either running, trying to escape. Black crystals were on their skin, some didn’t look human at all, while others had deformed bodies. None survived. The blood was staining the ground a crimson color, mud and blood mixing together. There was so much that it looked like it was spreading to you.

You ran. You ran like hell. It didn’t matter that your lungs were burning, or that you were hitting doors full force, bruising yourself. The priority was to get away.

In front of you a girl appears. Her blonde hair was stained by blood. It was dripping from her hair.

You try to tug at her while yelling, hoping she would just move and come with you.

“They are dead! They are all dead! Move, come on! They’ll find you, just… COME ON!”

You wake up crying, breathing hard. Hands seem to grab you and you just slap at them.

“Get your hands off of me!”, you yell and move away trembling.

Philip stands there. His hands are up. He looks completely terrified and shocked.

“Oh God, I’m sorry! I’m so sorry!”, you cry smoothening your hair.

You look around. That’s not your room. You are in what the two of you claim to be the living room.

After getting in control of your emotions, the two of you decided that it was far too late to get anymore sleep. Sitting at the table in the kitchen, a cup of tea in your hands, the tension was palpable.

“What happened? Like what did I do when I was asleep?”

“At first, I heard you walking around and thought you needed something from downstairs. Then I heard bumping and you starting to cry. I tried to talk to you, but you just screamed that ‘they are all dead’. I realized you were sleepwalking and tried to wake you up and you did, eventually.”

All you could do was sigh and mumble that you’re sorry.

“There’s no need.”, he says while stirring honey in his tea. “We all have our own problems and things that haunt us. Want to talk about it?”

Trying to catch your breath you ponder the idea of laying your soul bare. The weight of what happened hangs on your shoulders and chokes you when you think about talking about it.

“No, it’s alright. I’m good”, it sounded more like you are trying to convince yourself.

You get up and go prepare for a new day since sleeping would be impossible right now.

Philip doesn’t try to stop you, his lips pressed into a thin line, eyes lost. He sighs and heads for the lab.

Another day starts as what happened is ignored, though not forgotten.

hyunjin - wolf in sheep’s clothing

The rain pattered comfortingly against the window you were leaning against. It shut all of the noise around you out for a few seconds, that was the only calm you got.

Then you were yanked back by your arm and came face to face with a boy about the same age as you. Your brows furrowed as you searched the room to lock eyes with your friend, Liz. She had been the one in charge of planning your birthday outing. You internally sighed, what had she planned now?

The boy took a seat next to you while four others sat down elsewhere, one each for every girl. You had specifically asked her not to bring any boys. Sending a glare her way, you bitterly started sipping on your drink while avoiding the guy’s attempts to talk to you.

‘’ Oh relax, I just invited some guys. They’re from another high school, so there’s no need to worry. ‘’ 

You felt tired all of a sudden. What was supposed to be a small get-together with your friend at a restaurant suddenly turned into a small party that never seemed to end. For once, you were grateful for her fake ID that made it possible for you to have some alcohol though.

‘’ Not having a good birthday? ‘’

You jumped. The guy next to you had just spoken. He sounded very rough and direct, seemingly not caring if you were going to continue ignoring him, he must’ve really wanted to talk to you. 

You finally looked at him. He was handsome, with dark long hair that almost reached his shoulders, plump lips and cat-like eyes. Even though he was sitting down, it wasn’t hard to guess that he was tall from the way his legs stretched out under the table slightly uncomfortably. 

Really, you were lucky, but you were almost certain you’d never go home with him. You had never had a hookup before and the likelihood of you seeing him again was low. You made a mental note to let him down gently at the end of the night.

Still, there was no point in being rude the rest of the outing so you gave him a slight smile and shrugged nonchalantly. ‘’ Could be better.‘’

He laughed, and his laugh was just as beautiful as his exterior, you felt your stomach jolt with butterflies.

‘’ Has it at least gotten better since I got here? ‘’

You considered it while looking around the room. You didn’t like the people your friend had brought, the ones she claimed wanted to get to know you better, so they begged to come with.

‘’ Yeah, I guess so, ‘’ you finally admitted.

That made him satisfied. You saw him smirk to himself before leaning back, his shoulders slouched and he looked a lot less tense. You wondered why he’d been tense at all, maybe he also got nervous when meeting new people. 

‘’ I’m Hyunjin. ‘’

‘’ I’m y/n, ‘’ you quietly answered.

A tap on your shoulder shifted your attention away from the stranger. You saw one of Liz’s friends looking down at you.

‘’ I’m leaving now, ‘’ she swayed from side to side, almost tipping over from the alcohol coursing through her veins, ‘’ happy birthday. ‘’

You gave her a small smile and waved her off; due to not feeling close with her, you didn’t mind that she was leaving early, besides, she’d looked bored the whole night like she couldn’t wait to leave anyways.

Another one of Liz’s friends must’ve overheard the conversation, because she quickly butted in as soon as the other one left. She told you that she and another girl were leaving, taking two of the guys with them and only leaving Liz and the last guy, except for the one glued to your side of course.

The night dragged on, but you were starting to enjoy yourself a lot more as it progressed into something more calm and relaxed. The rain outside continued to patter against the window, increasing in heaviness the later it got.

Around 2 am, everyone’s attention was drawn to Liz yawning dramatically. She stretched her arms up and then stood, the small smirk she gave the guy didn’t go unnoticed by you.

‘’ I think it’s time for me to go home now. But I had a good time, and I hope you did too, y/n. ‘’

She came over and pulled you into a hug, drunkenly mumbling in your ear, ‘’ I love you, happy birthday. ‘’

‘’ Are you sure you’ll be okay? ‘’

Gesturing at the guy, she winked. He had started standing up and getting ready to leave too, you weren’t that surprised, they looked like they’d been hitting it off.

‘’ Definitely, he’s taking me home. You should let him do the same with you, ‘’ Hyunjin blushed as she nudged her head towards his direction. 

You didn’t get a chance to reply. She turned and threw her arm around the guy. You couldn’t help pouting slightly as you watched them go, knowing that you were alone with Hyunjin now; it was bound to get a little awkward when you’d try to get home and also gently reject him.

As if he could read your mind, he stood up too and started reaching for his jacket. He handed you yours and the two of you made it to the entrance. It was pouring outside now, so loudly that you could barely hear his voice.

‘’ Do you live close by? ‘’

You sighed, contemplating how on earth you’d get home. ‘’ No, I took a taxi here. ‘’

‘’ I don’t think you’ll get home. There’s a storm coming, ‘’ he said gently, sounding sorry for you.

You felt sorry for you too, but mostly stupid. How could you have missed the weather report on today of all days? That should’ve been the first thing you checked in the morning. Mentally preparing yourself, you turned to him and began with a small smile, which undoubtedly came out more like a grimace. 

‘’ Listen, I’ve had a really good time but I should go. Thank you for keeping me company. ‘’

He frowned and almost looked at you like you were stupid, which made you shy away from his gaze; you felt like sinking into your spot. 

‘’ But how though? ‘’

‘’ What? ‘’

‘’ How are you going to get home? ‘’

‘’ Oh, well I guess I’ll just stay at a motel or something. ‘’

‘’ No way. They’re quite expensive around here, only creeps stay in those and most of them are closed or have shut down in this area. ‘’

‘’ None in a walking distance? ‘’ you disappointedly asked, hoping there was at least one you could stay at.

‘’ None. ‘’

Silence filled the air between you two. During it, you were pretty certain that you were thinking of the same thing that he was. Your eyes met and he immediately looked away, rubbing the nape of his neck awkwardly.

‘’ You could…you could stay at my place. I only live five minutes away.‘’

‘’ By car? ‘’ you shamelessly asked, looking for a way out.

‘’ By foot. ‘’

‘’ Oh. ‘’

He quickly said, ‘’ you don’t have to. I just think it’s best, with the weather and everything. ‘’

‘’ Yeah, ‘’ you absentmindedly said, already thinking of all the ways it could go wrong if you came with him. 

He was a complete stranger that you had met for the first time just a few hours ago and you knew nothing about him. But you were also realistically thinking of your choices and what few safe and cheap options you had, or rather didn’t have. You were also a student after all, you couldn’t spend too much.

‘’ Have you decided yet? ‘’

You looked up from the ground and saw he was half-way out of the door. The chilliness from the outside crept in and swooped in some water that splashed on you, it only made you more confident in your choice.

‘’ Yes. I’ll go with you. ‘’

His apartment was actually five minutes away, just like he had said. That gave you some inclination to trust him. 

You briefly traced your fingers over the different books he had in his shelves as he left you alone for a few minutes. You weren’t sure what he was doing, probably not showering since you couldn’t hear it running. But you didn’t question it. You felt too curious to resist snooping around in his apartment. 

After taking another lap around, you sat down on the couch. What you had gathered was that he was a very clean and organized person. Despite being a high-schooler like you, there were no signs of dirty laundry, stains on the white carpet or even a speck of dust.

When he came back, you could see from afar that he was holding something in his hands, it looked like one of those masks that you could buy at the Halloween stores. While making his way over to you, he dimmed the lights and then sat down very close, so close that your knees were touching.

‘’ Do you like it? ‘’

Your cheeks burned hot. ‘’ Did you…see me? ‘’

‘’ Yes, it’s not a big apartment you know, ‘’ he laughed heartily, you swooned quietly at his smile. He had a little bit of a golden retriever type of personality, it was very comforting.

A question that had entered your mind a while back reappeared and you felt quite intrigued to hear his answer to it.

‘’ Do you live alone? ‘’

‘’ Yeah, since a few years back. It’s nice but expensive. ‘’

You wanted to ask about his parents but there was likely a good reason that he lived alone at such a young age, so you didn’t push it further. You only nodded and gave a half-smile. Yet, your mind couldn’t help spinning with theories - were his parents dead? Was he not close with them? Was he rich? Was this not his apartment?

So caught up in your mind, you didn’t notice when he started leaning into you. You jumped loudly when his hand was gently placed on your thigh.

‘’ Should we go to my room? It’s getting late. ‘’ 

When he saw that your eyes had fallen to his hand, he slid it down to your lap where he intertwined your fingers. You let yourself be pulled up and dragged away, almost in a daze. 

One moment, you were looking around his room with a puzzled expression, the next you were sprawled out on the bed with Hyunjin on top of you; his mouth lowering down to meet yours in passionate kisses that knocked all air out of your lungs.

The rejection you had been preparing before was long gone from your mind.

All you could think of was the slight taste of alcohol on his lips and how he occasionally teased the inside of your mouth with his tongue, sending chills all over you. You obliged silently when he started pulling your clothes off and almost looked at him like a puppy waiting for its treat while watching him get undressed with your widened eyes.

You parted your lips, ready for him to come close to you again. But he surprised you instead by leaving you hanging. He went somewhere in the apartment and came back holding the same mask he had brought to the living room.

‘’ What’s that for? ‘’

He stirred in place, his back muscles flexing in tension. Then he turned and the smile was back.

‘’ I’ve heard that some girls like when guys wear masks, ‘’ he shrugged, ‘’ it’s not Halloween but we’re only seven months away, never too early to celebrate. ‘’

You moved back on the bed so you could lie on the pillows. Biting on your lip with a feeling of anxiety that you weren’t quite sure where it came from, you only hummed in response.

‘’ What’s wrong? Do you not want me to use it? ‘’

‘’ No, it’s-, ‘’ you rolled your eyes at yourself, you were being ridiculous, this was not something that needed to be made a big deal out of. ‘’ It’s okay, just hurry back here. ‘’

He flashed you a grin again, went over to the bookshelf and adjusted what looked like a book that had fallen out of place and then came over to you. Immediately, his lips found yours again hungrily, like being away from you for a minute or two had left him starved.

With two fingers he separated your legs and then he looked down at you for approval. You nodded, feeling your breathing hitch and grow heavy in anticipation. He placed himself between and slowly eased in, lowering himself so your foreheads were touching just as you both sighed in pleasure.

You thought you saw something or someone flicker in the background, but the next second your eyes were closed and it slipped out of your mind. Ungodly sounds filled the room instead, drowning out every possible thought you could have.

With every movement he made, euphoria filled you. More and more, until it was about to spill over. Your legs wrapped around his slim waist, hands clawing frantically at the sheets. You gasped, ‘’ I’m- ‘’

He hushed you, ‘’ I know baby. ‘’

You tried to make eye contact with him, only to be met with uncomfortable, empty eyes staring back at you, framed by the mask. It made him look scary, not sexy. He didn’t seem half as sweet now; the golden retriever persona was long gone.

But you couldn’t hold it back any longer, you arched your back as the euphoria spread from head to toe in your body, letting small whimpers slip past your lips with its release. 

Your eyes rolled back and when you fluttered them open again, he was already off of you, half-way across the room and putting his clothes on. 

You felt your stomach sink. He must’ve just viewed you like a hookup that he’d fuck and then just leave there to sleep through the night alone. You grimaced and rolled over on your side, feeling like an idiot and wishing you had stuck to your planned rejection from before.

Then he surprised you.

‘’ We should do this again. I know I’m gonna miss you when you leave.‘’

The smile in his voice was evident, yet you still felt a bit bitter. In pettiness, you just hummed in response and then went on your phone. He left and closed the door not long after.

It was hard to fall asleep that night, something was off, but you had no idea why. Your mother always used to say that you were paranoid whenever you stayed at people’s houses as a kid, but then again, if you felt an energy when you walked in - that person always turned out to be bad some time afterward. 

You just hoped you were wrong about this one.

The next morning, you didn’t wake up in the most pleasant way. Right before falling asleep, you’d imagined how the morning would turn out; maybe he’d wake you up with breakfast or gently nudge you while smiling down at you lovingly, or he would just leave you to wake up on your own.

But the reality was far from your fantasies. You woke up because you felt like someone was watching you. 

With your heart hammering in your chest, you were scared to move, so you slowly rolled over to the side against the window, squinting before it felt safe enough to open your eyes fully. You rolled out of bed and turned. Your whole body was tense and you felt like you couldn’t breathe.

But no one was there. You frowned. Had you had a bad nightmare? No, not that you could remember. 

The feeling hadn’t entirely left when you started making your way towards the door. Outside it, you could hear sounds of pans and something frying. Upon opening it, a smell of bacon hit you.

You moved to the kitchen and saw Hyunjin standing at the stove, back turned to you. He wouldn’t have had the time to run from the room to the kitchen without you hearing his steps.

You tilted your head and clicked your tongue. But maybe he was in your room, watching you sleep right before you woke up. The thought sent chills down your spine. Hyunjin turned and smiled, his puppy-like personality back again like nothing happened. 

It was weird. Was he the type of guy who acted completely different in bed versus out of it? You thought back to the mask and how it didn’t fit the image you were looking at right now. 

‘’ Hey, you woke up just in time. ‘’

You wanted nothing more than to leave and call Liz, even if you felt a bit embarrassed about the whole thing. However, out of politeness, you sat down at the table and returned his smile, shifting awkwardly.

When you saw that he noticed your stiff body language, his smile faded and his eyes almost returned to the way they had looked the night before. Hurriedly you tried to relax.

‘’ This looks amazing, thank you. ‘’

That seemed to ease him up a little. He stopped observing your every move and instead turned his attention to his plate. In the absence of surveillance, you managed to push the food around and only take a few bites to make it look like you’d eaten almost half. You weren’t sure if you could stomach too much right now.

‘’ I, um, ‘’ you began feeling uncertain on how to express yourself, ‘’ I have this thing- my- my parents, they want me to come home early! Otherwise, they will be worried. ‘’

That was the best excuse you could come up with. With bated breath, you waited for his reaction. He put his fork down, almost dramatically slow, which made you nervous. You started glancing at the door in case you needed to make a run for it.

‘’ Okay. I understand, ‘’ he flatly said at last.

You had to stop yourself from sighing in relief loudly, but you accidentally stood up a little too quickly; the chair scraping against the wooden floor, so you practically gave yourself away anyways.

He watched you as you went. Your hands were shaking and it was hard to focus with the harrowing gaze on you as you tied your shoes. 

‘’ Bye, thank you for everything, ‘’ you pressed out and almost bolted out of the door.

‘’ I’ll call you, ‘’ he shouted.

Your blood froze. Call you? You ran out into the street now that he couldn’t see you and waved down an Uber. You only felt safe once you were inside and the vehicle started moving, so that’s when you took out your phone to look at it.

Sure enough, it was as you had feared. He had somehow gotten into your phone while you were asleep and he’d added his number. Panicking, you started flicking through every single app, note and photo you owned, only to find it exactly as you had left it.

You texted Liz a summary of what had happened and asked if she’d be at school the next day. As you arrived home, your phone pinged with an answer from her, and just when you were about to put it back in your pocket, it pinged again.

Your face twisted in horror and disgust - it was him, ‘ baby, I miss you so much already. ‘ Baby? You definitely weren’t close enough for that, besides, he’d given you a lot of mixed signals, constantly switching from one mood to another and then leaving you like that after you had sex.

You ignored it and went inside. There was no doubt in your mind that you weren’t going to leave for the rest of the day. You’d just spend it replaying everything he said or did, over and over again, until you could finally see Liz.

‘’ What a fucking creep! ‘’ Liz squealed.

She had your phone clutched in her hand, staring at the text from Hyunjin which was the cherry on top at the end of your recollection of the night before. Liz was not having any of it. She said that Hyunjin had given her the creeps ever since he walked into the restaurant with the other guys.

Not much was known about him either. He had transferred just a few months ago and was just starting to get to know his class. When you told her the rest, it definitely didn’t help to make Liz see him in a more positive light.

‘’ Don’t you feel like he’s hiding something? ‘’ she asked when you approached the school’s buildings.

People stood in the alleyways of them, smoking and keeping watch for teachers passing by. You hurried your steps a little more when you saw them.

‘’ Maybe…but what? ‘’

Liz was about to respond, but you were caught by surprise; a scream torn from your throat when you were yanked into one of the alleyways. 

You expected to see one of the bullies of the school being pissed that you had taken the route that passed by them to the main building. Instead you were face to face with Hyunjin.

‘’ Hyunjin? What are you doing here? ‘’ you harshly whispered, turning to see if anyone had spotted you.

Liz looked at you questioningly and you gave her a thumbs up, a nervous laugh bubbling up inside. She stood by the entrance of the alleyway instead, out of ear-shot.

‘’ Sorry. I don’t think Liz told you. When she said that I go to ‘ another high school, ‘ she meant the one next to yours. ‘’

‘’ Oh. ‘’

‘’ I just wanted to talk to you, ‘’ his eyes flickered over to Liz, he had that same look on his face that had unsettled you before, you took a step back. 

‘’ Can she leave? ‘’

‘’ Why would she need to leave? ‘’

He leaned his arm on the wall and rested his head against the palm of his hand, lips twitching in barely concealed annoyance.

‘’ Can she? ‘’ he repeated, more forcefully this time.

‘’ No, ‘’ you spat back, equally as forceful even though you were masking your fear.

The corners of his mouth quirked upward, he had noticed; nothing slipped past him.

‘’ We have to talk about us. So I’d just like some privacy. ‘’

Against better judgement, you waved Liz off. He seemed like he wasn’t going to let you off until he’d said whatever he wanted to say. Besides, you weren’t completely alone anyway. If you had to scream, someone would hear you…you hoped.

With his free hand he nudged you toward the wall and switched so it was his right hand leaning against the wall instead as he faced you. The maneuver felt a little controlling or almost territorial; essentially he was caging you in so you couldn’t run away the easiest escape route.

‘’ We should date from now on. ‘’

His golden retriever smile that crinkled his eyes returned, but it felt wrong this time, very wrong. You didn’t feel butterflies in your stomach like the first time he’d shown you it, now all you felt was ice.

‘’ I’m sorry. I don’t know you well enough. ‘’

‘’ You will get to know me when you start dating me, ‘’ he scoffed like he couldn’t believe how stupid you sounded. It reminded you of his reaction to you trying to get home in the rain no matter what.

‘’ I’m not ready to date right now. I wasn’t looking for anything serious. ‘’

His eyes narrowed and he looked away from you, turning to the side just as a laugh of disbelief came out.

‘’ Nothing serious, huh? ‘’ he murmured to himself and took his hand off of the wall, starting to pace back and forth, occasionally throwing you glares. ‘’ So you just go around looking at every guy like that? ‘’

You were stunned and also a little offended. ‘’ Like what? ‘’

‘’ Like a fucking slut! ‘’ he screamed, turning to face you fully now, he got closer and closer; pointing his finger at you accusingly until he’d reached you and his finger poked your upper chest. 

‘’ Don’t deny it. You tried to do the good girl act when really you were feeling sorry for yourself and any guy there would’ve been good enough just to fuck you and make your birthday great again. ‘’

Your mouth opened and then closed again. You weren’t sure what you’d say, even if he stopped his manic rambling to give you the chance to get a word in.

‘’ But you chose me! And I chose you, ‘’ his finger poked into you again as he pushed you against the wall with it harshly, ‘’ Now you’re just trying to run away. ‘’

‘’ No, I- ‘’ you felt tears threatening to fall and cleared your throat in a pitiful attempt to stop them, ‘’ I think you misunderstood. I wasn’t even planning on hooking up with anyone, but I had nowhere to sleep and you seemed really sweet so I changed my mind. ‘’

Now he was the quiet one. You had expected it to calm you, but it only made you more anxious. What was he thinking right now? What was he going to do next? Should you not have argued back at all?

You wished you hadn’t turned Liz away now. Silently you pleaded that she’d come back to check on you; that the clock would go faster and the bell would ring so she would have to come get you. Then she could save you.

Maybe there was still time, you could stall this a little longer.

‘’ I- I don’t want to date you, ‘’ you quietly finished.

A snicker caught your attention. First your head snapped up in curiosity, then your eyes widened like you were a deer caught in headlights.

He came closer to you again, completely forcing you against the wall. In his hand, he held his phone, which he brought up to your face.

‘’ No, ‘’ you breathed out, the first tear falling despite your efforts to stop it.

On his phone was what looked like footage from a hidden camera. It was high up, with a view of the whole room. And in said view, was Hyunjin having sex with you - his face masked up, yours on full display.

‘’ The bookshelf, ‘’ you sighed to yourself, realization hitting you. 

He had been setting up the camera when he pretended like he was putting a book back into place. It had seemed unnatural then, but not enough to raise alarms. It also explained the feeling of being watched, and the mask.

He didn’t bother to hide his smirk of satisfaction when you pieced everything together and looked absolutely defeated. ‘’ Do you remember at the beginning of the year, we got that system where you can search up anyone at the school’s email? ‘’

You already knew where he was going with this. He nodded, as if to respond for you.

‘’ What do you say, should I send this video to everyone at school or will you go out with me? ‘’

You swallowed thickly, feeling the hate in your hot tears. He scooped one up on his thumb and brought it to his lips.

‘’ Your choice, ‘’ he added condescendingly.

‘’ Fine, ‘’ you said, sounding very tired.

‘’ Good, ‘’ he smiled triumphantly, giving you a wink.

There was no way out of this for now. You’d have to go along with his games. 

‘’ I just have to tell Liz. ‘’

‘’ Oh, ‘’ he snapped his fingers. ‘’ She won’t be a problem anymore. ‘’

‘’ What? What do you mean? ‘’

‘’ A few of my friends from my old school are here, just visiting. There are a couple more alleyways except for this one. In particular, one of them is very dark and secluded. It was good that your little friend decided to walk past that one. You know, it’s quite perfect when you want to get rid of things that scream - no one will hear them. ‘’
