AKOGARE NO PARIS (憧れのパリ)
Step into a dreamy, Studio Ghibli-inspired take on Europe — filtered through an Eastern lens and sprinkled with just a bit of magic. This trio of adjoining storefronts brings to life akogare no Paris — "the Paris of our dreams" — a romanticized, fantasy version of Europe that blends different eras and styles into something timeless and a little surreal.
Wander through a cozy café adorned with art nouveau stained glass and overgrown greenery from its attached greenhouse. Browse the towering bookshelves of a three-story bookstore, where a good game of chess (or the approval of the shopkeeper’s pet crow) might earn you a bargain. Or tinker away in an eccentric inventor’s robotics workshop, where engineering and a little bit of imagination take this fantasy of everyday life to the next level.
This build was of course inspired by the enchanting worlds of Studio Ghibli, but also a great video essay about anime’s obsession with Europe. Highly recommend!

Yandere dollmaker who bases all his work on you.
You run deliveries for a few businesses in the bustling city his workshop resides in, so he sees you quite frequently. He hardly speaks to you when you come each morning to collect his wares, but you smile and chat with him despite his lack of words.
Yandere dollmaker thinks your smile is like sunshine. You're the only person he speaks to really. He holes himself up in his studio, firing porcelain in burning kilns and stabbing needles into his fingers from the little dresses and suits he crafts. Each doll is made with meticulous care, and he's grown to be renowned for the quality of his products. He accepts commission only by letter, and even then he insists that every doll he makes, he will make to his liking.
Yandere dollmaker who wonders what you'd look like in the frilly, elaborate, and impractical outfits he designs for his figurines. You're dressed so plainly, so practically, and he thinks that you'd be suited better in the outfits he's sketched out. He sits at night and drafts up ideas for the dolls, and after a while of knowing you, he realized that all his portfolio resembled you in an almost uncanny sense.
Yandere dollmaker who wishes he could make a mold of your face, or even your delicate hands. He wants to have you still and pliant so he can study you better. He sits on his workbench and sculpts what he imagines your features to be. He thinks he's getting better, but he'd like for you to let him touch you.
Yandere dollmaker who wishes that for once, you'd take a peek at the packages he hands you each morning. He's sure if you ever noticed how often he made things that look like you, you'd probably never want to see him again. He of course, doesn't want that, but he can't help but lick his lips at the thought of you acknowledging his devotion.
In the darkness of night, Yandere doll maker sits at his bench. His unsettling eyes bore into a borderline featureless porcelain face. He gently touches it and sighs. He can't help but wonder if he'll be satisfied with just this. The lifeless creations on his shelves stare back at him, and he hums. Another doll sits neatly packaged in a box nearby, and he sighs. He's jealous of his customers. They all got their little versions of you, but he'd have the real thing very soon
The prepared cellar underneath the floorboards said so anyways.

This elegantly handcrafted home was built in 1971 in Southampton, MA. It has 3bds, 2ba, 2,885sqft, $825k.
And, it comes with a handcrafted stone mill building featuring a water wheel and artisan workshop. Can you imagine having this as a private studio/workshop?
When handcrafted homes are constructed by skilled artisans, you can tell, b/c they're so beautifully done.
A bank of closets before you get to the main great room.
The large 2-story space is surrounded by a beautiful mezzanine.
Large glass doors and windows let in lots of natural sunlight and look at the pretty brick fireplace.
I wonder what intentions he had for the bump-out. Maybe a desk or a table for two?
The dining room could accommodate any size table and has a beautiful French wood burning stove in the fireplace.
The spacious kitchen is simple, and features a chef's stove.
The primary bedroom has a great view of the beautiful garden.
This is very nice- a sitting/dressing area by the closet wall.
At the other end, there are bookshelves and a fireplace.
Stairs going up to the 2nd level and a huge bonus space off the mezzanine.
The mezzanine has an office area and lots of shelving.
There's also a shower room up here.
Looking down to the great room.
The studio inside the mill. It even has a fireplace.
The grounds are lovely.
1.87 acre lot.

WRITERS STRIKE:
I am an author, and my most recent book was turned into a screen play by a talented screenwriter. Folks, she worked her ass off—I mean it; the hours and the workshopping, then the many rounds of pitches, going up before studios and pushing the story because she believed in it. Then, at last, she found an excited director/producer at a major studio. He took it to the execs. You know what they said? ‘Seems like the writers are planning a strike—so we’re not buying anything new.’ That’s right: the writers went on strike BECAUSE of mistreatment by studios… and the studio (before the strike) used the strike to, wait for it, mistreat writers. This amazing screenwriter worked for a year and a half for no pay (as a matter of fact, she paid my agency a small holding fee to work the script), created something amazing for a network, and now is struggling to make ends meet. I told my agent to let her keep the rights as long as she needs (as in, forget the term contract ffs, she doesn’t need to pay for any more rights from us), and they agreed. But I’m sick at heart for her. I get it, too; I write books and hope they sell—they don’t always. It’s a gamble. But I can’t imagine being in the position she’s in right now. Please, support the writer’s strike however you can. Big studios, big publishers… they will keep pushing writers to the margins as long as they can get away with it.

Cross-posting an essay I wrote for my Patreon since the post is free and open to the public.

Hello everyone! I hope you're relaxing as best you can this holiday season. I recently went to see Miyazaki's latest Ghibli movie, The Boy and the Heron, and I had some thoughts about it. If you're into art historical allusions and gently cranky opinions, please enjoy. I've attached a downloadable PDF in the Patreon post if you'd prefer to read it that way. Apologies for the formatting of the endnotes! Patreon's text posting does not allow for superscripts, which means all my notations are in awkward parentheses. Please note that this writing contains some mild spoilers for The Boy and the Heron.

Hayao Miyazaki’s 2023 feature animated film The Boy and the Heron reads as an extended meditation on grief and legacy. The Master of a grand tower seeks a descendant to carry on his maddening duty, balancing toy blocks of magical stone upon which the entire fabric of his little pocket of reality rests. The world’s foundations are frail and fleeting, and can pass away into the cold void of space should he neglect to maintain this task. The Master’s desire to pass the torch undergirds much of the film’s narrative.

(Isle of the Dead. Arnold Böcklin. 1880. Oil on Canvas. Kunstmuseum. Basel, Switzerland.)
Arnold Böcklin, a Swiss Symbolist(1) painter, was born on October 16 in 1827, the same year the Swiss Evangelical Reformed Church bought a plot of land in Florence from the Grand Duke of Tuscany, Leopold II, that had long been used for the burials of Protestants around Florence. It is colloquially known as The English Cemetery, so called because it was the resting place of many Anglophones and Protestants around Tuscany, and Böcklin frequented this cemetery—his workshop was adjacent and his infant daughter Maria was buried there. In 1880, he drew inspiration from the cemetery, a lone plot of Protestant land among a sea of Catholic graveyards, and began to paint what would be the first of six images entitled Isle of the Dead. An oil on canvas piece, it depicts a moody little island mausoleum crowned with a gently swaying grove of cypresses, a type of tree common in European cemeteries and some of which are referred to as arborvitae. A figure on a boat, presumably Charon, ferries a soul toward the island and away from the viewer.

(Photo of The English Cemetery in Florence. Samuli Lintula. 2006.)
The Isle of the Dead paintings varied slightly from version to version, with figures and names added and removed to suit the needs of the time or the commissioner. The painting was glowingly referenced and remained fairly popular throughout the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The painting used to be inescapable in much of European popular culture. Professor Okulicz-Kozaryn, a philologist (someone with a deep interest in the ways language and cultural canons evolve)(2) observed that the painting, like many other works in its time, was itself iterative and became widely reiterated and referenced among its contemporaries. It became something like Romantic kitsch in the eyes of modern art critics, overwrought and excessively Byronic. I imagine Miyazaki might also resent a work of that level of manufactured ubiquity, as Miyazaki famously held Disney animated films in contempt (3). Miyazaki’s films are popularly aspirational to young animators and cartoonists, but gestures at imitation typically fall well short, often reducing Miyazaki’s weighty films to kitschy images of saccharine vibes and a lazy indulgence in a sort of empty magical domestic coziness. Being trapped in a realm of rote sentiment by an uncritical, unthoughtful viewership is its own Isle of Death.

(Still from The Boy and the Heron, 2023. Studio Ghibli.)
The Boy and the Heron follows a familiar narrative arc to many of Miyazaki’s other films: a child must journey through a magical and quietly menacing world in order to rescue their loved ones. This arc is an echo of Satsuki’s journey to find Mei in My Neighbor Totoro (1988) and Chihiro’s journey to rescue her parents Spirited Away (2001). To better understand Miyazaki’s fixation with this particular character journey, it can be instructive to watch Lev Atamanov’s 1957 animated film, The Snow Queen (4)(5), a beautifully realized take on Hans Christian Andersen’s 1844 children’s story (6)(7). Mahito’s journey continues in this tradition, as the boy travels into a painted world to rescue his new stepmother from a mysterious tower.
Throughout the film, Miyazaki visually references Isle of the Dead. Transported to a surreal world, Mahito initially awakens on a little green island with a gated mausoleum crowned with cypress trees. He is accosted by hungry pelicans before being rescued by a fisherwoman named Kiriko. After a day of catching and gutting fish, Mahito wakes up under the fisherwoman’s dining table, surrounded by kokeshi—little wooden dolls—in the shapes of the old women who run Mahito’s family’s rural household. Mahito is told they must not be touched, as the kokeshi are wards set up for his protection. There is a popular urban legend associated with the kokeshi wherein they act as stand-ins for victims of infanticide, though there seems to be very little available writing to support this legend. Still, it’s a neat little trick that Miyazaki pulls, placing a stray reference to a local legend of unverifiable provenance that persists in the popular imagination, like the effect of fairy stories passed on through oral retellings, continually remolded each new iteration.

(Still from The Boy and the Heron, 2023. Studio Ghibli.)
Kiriko’s job in this strange landscape is to catch fish to nourish unborn spirits, the adorable floating warawara, before they can attempt to ascend on a journey into the world of the living. Their journey is thwarted by flocks of supernatural pelicans, who swarm the warawara and devour them. This seems to nod to the association of pelicans with death in mythologies around the world, especially in relationship to children (8). Miyazaki’s pelicans contemplate the passing of their generations as each successive generation seems to regress, their capacity to fulfill their roles steadily diminishing.

(Still from The Boy and the Heron, 2023. Studio Ghibli.)
As Mahito’s adventure continues, we find the landscapes changing away from Böcklin’s Isle of the Dead into more familiar Ghibli territories as we start to see spaces inspired by one of Studio Ghibli’s aesthetic mainstays, Naohisa Inoue and his explorations of the fantasy realms of Iblard. He might be most familiar to Ghibli enthusiasts as the background artists for the more fantastical elements of Whisper of the Heart (1995).

(Naohisa Inoue, for Iblard Jikan, 2007. Studio Ghibli.)
By the time we arrive at the climax of The Boy and the Heron, the fantasy island environment starts to resemble English takes on Italian gardens, the likes of which captivated illustrators and commercial artists of the early 20th century such as Maxfield Parrish. This appears to be a return to one of Böcklin’s later paintings, The Island of Life (1888), a somewhat tongue-in-cheek reaction to the overwhelming presence of Isle of the Dead in his life and career. The Island of Life depicts a little spot of land amid an ocean very like the one on which Isle of the Dead’s somber mausoleum is depicted, except this time the figures are lively and engaged with each other, the vegetation lush and colorful, replete with pink flowers and palm fronds.

(Island of Life. Arnold Böcklin. Oil on canvas. 1888. Kunstmuseum. Basel, Switzerland.)
In 2022, Russia’s State Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg acquired the sixth and final Isle of the Dead painting. In the last year of his life, Arnold Böcklin would paint this image in collaboration with his son Carlo Böcklin, himself an artist and an architect. Arnold Böcklin spent three years painting the same image three times over at the site of his infant daughter’s grave, trapped on the Isle of the Dead. By the time of his death in 1901 at age 74, Böcklin would be survived by only five of his fourteen children. That the final Isle of the Dead painting would be a collaboration between father and son seemed a little ironic considering Hayao Miyazaki’s reticence in passing on his own legacy. Like the old Master in The Boy and the Heron, Miyazaki finds himself with no true successors.
The Master of the Tower's beautiful islands of painted glass fade into nothing as Mahito, his only worthy descendant, departs to live his own life, fulfilling the thesis of Genzaburo Yoshino’s 1937 book How Do You Live?, published three years after Carlo Böcklin’s death. In evoking Yoshino and Böcklin’s works, Hayao Miyazaki’s The Boy and the Heron suggests that, like his character the Master, Miyazaki himself must make peace with the notion that he has no heirs to his legacy, and that those whom he wished to follow in his footsteps might be best served by finding their own paths.

(Isle of the Dead. Arnold and Carlo Böcklin. Oil on canvas. 1901. The State Hermitage Museum. Saint Petersburg, Russia.)
INFORMAL ENDNOTES
1 - Symbolists are sort of tough to nail down. They were started as a literary movement to 1 distinguish themselves from the Decadents, but their manifesto was so vague that critics and academics fight about it to this day. The long and the short of it is that the Symbolists made generous use of a lot of metaphorical imagery in their work. They borrow a lot of icons from antiquity, echo the moody aesthetics from the Romantics, maintained an emphasis on figurative imagery more so than the Surrealists, and were only slightly more technically married to the trappings of traditionalist academic painters than Modernists and Impressionists. They're extremely vibes-forward.
2 - Okulicz-Kozaryn, Radosław. Predilection of Modernism for Variations. Ciulionis' Serenity among Different Developments of the Theme of Toteninsel. ACTA Academiae Artium Vilnensis 59. 2010. The article is incredibly cranky and very funny to read in parts. Contains a lot of observations I found to be helpful in placing Isle of the Dead within its context.
3 - "From my perspective, even if they are lightweight in nature, the more popular and common films still must be filled with a purity of emotion. There are few barriers to entry into these films-they will invite anyone in but the barriers to exit must be high and purifying. Films must also not be produced out of idle nervousness or boredom, or be used to recognise, emphasise, or amplify vulgarity. And in that context, I must say that I hate Disney's works. The barrier to both the entry and exit of Disney films is too low and too wide. To me, they show nothing but contempt for the audience." from Miyazaki's own writing in his collection of essays, Starting Point, published in 2014 from VIZ Media.
4 - You can watch the movie here in its original Russian with English closed captions here.
5 If you want to learn more about the making of Atamanoy's The Snow Queen, Animation Obsessive wrote a neat little article about it. It's a good overview, though I have to gently disagree with some of its conclusions about the irony of Miyazaki hating Disney and loving Snow Queen, which draws inspiration from Bambi. Feature film animation as we know it hadonly been around a few decades by 1957, and I find it specious, particularly as a comic artistand author, to see someone conflating an entire form with the character of its content, especially in the relative infancy of the form. But that's just one hot take. The rest of the essay is lovely.
6 - Miyazaki loves this movie. He blurbed it in a Japanese re-release of it in 2007.
7 - Julia Alekseyeva interprets Princess Mononoke as an iteration of Atamanov's The Snow Queen, arguing that San, the wolf princess, is Miyazaki's homage to Atamanoy's little robber girl character.
8 - Hart, George. The Routledge Dictionary of Egyptian Gods And Goddesses. Routledge Dictionaries. Abingdon, United Kingdom: Routledge. 2005.

“In 1870, at age 15, Edmond Lachenal apprenticed himself to the renowned ceramist Théodore Deck. At the Deck studio in Paris, Lachenal learned both production techniques and the non-Western styles and ornamental traditions which Deck was beginning to incorporate in his work. Lachenal brought these approaches with him when he established his own workshop in 1883. There he produced small and large Japanese-inspired plaques, vases, and sculptural objects.
Shaped like Japanese paper lantern[s], th[ese] vase[s] [are] decorated with two sculptural brown bats. Lachenal may have been influenced by the work of the Japanese potter Miyagawa Kōzan (1842–1916), whose prize-winning ceramics were displayed at the Paris Universal Expositions of 1878 and 1889. Kōzan was celebrated for his decorative technique taka-ukibori (sculptural relief), in which he decorated the surfaces of his wares with realistic three-dimensional high reliefs and sculptures, such as a crab climbing on the edge of a bowl.”

Hello! Can I request Angel Dust and Lucifer (and any other character if you want to) with fashion designer sinner S/o who is in love with their aesthetic and likes to make clothes for them. Reader likes making surprises for special days and they make some clothing peaces for them as a gift. + I can especially imagine Lucifer and reader together designing something with rubber ducks on it (I've wrote this request in the middle of the night so I'm sorry for any mistakes) Thank you!
Headcanons Designer
🕷 Angel Dust x sinner!Reader 💖
You met Angel when he was leaving the studio. You were dating Velvette that day and you had a big fight. However, all your bad mood evaporated when you saw him. You literally fell in love with his aesthetics and you came up with a huge number of designs that you could make inspired by his image. You immediately approached him and offered him a small job for a fee. Over time, your business relationship turned into a friendly one, and then into a romantic one
Angel was flattered that he was an inspiration to you. When you were working, he often kept you company. There was always soft music playing in your sewing workshop, it smelled nice, and no one came into your office without getting permission from you. Angel could relax, appreciate the sketch you showed him, or just spend time with you. He often hugged you from behind, watched your work with interest, and sometimes distracted you from work by kissing you and pulling you away from your desk
On special days, for example, when you successfully completed work on a collection of clothes, you gave Angel small gifts. It was a few pieces of clothing. It could have been a jacket, hat, gloves, shirt or something else. You always gave several items, trying to combine them in style and match the style that he liked. Angel liked your gifts and often wore them, especially when you invited him to the shows of your new collections
Angel liked you and he liked your relationship. You were passionate about your work, but you were kind, caring and attentive. You were genuinely worried about him and wanted to help him, but so far you haven't had that opportunity. But together you set out to come up with a plan to wrest his soul from the Valentino's clutches
🍎 Lucifer Morningstar x sinner!Reader 🐍
Lucifer rarely interacted with sinners, but you were, in a sense, an exception. Charlie introduced you to him. You were a fashion designer and his daughter liked the clothes you made. Lucifer, deciding to make a joke, said that he was also a designer of some kind and showed you a rubber duck that he had created. Charlie felt awkward, but to her surprise, you really liked the rubber duck, and moreover, you wanted to do something inspired by Lucifer and his creations
You really liked Lucifer's aesthetics, as you often told him. When you started dating, you often began to share with them the sketches that you did. Some of them were inspired by him and you were proud of how well they turned out. Lucifer was happy to help you by giving you honest feedback about your sketches
On one of your important dates, you said you had a surprise for him. This surprise turned out to be several pieces of clothing for him that you made yourself. You made them especially for Lucifer, and the main theme was the rubber ducks that he created. Lucifer was touched by your gift, and the cuter part of it was the little rubber duck costume
Lucifer enjoyed spending time with you. You were both creative people and shared with each other the different creations that you created. When he started living at the hotel, you were happy to offer your help, including making clothes for the hotel staff and maybe even starting to live there yourself. It was enough for Lucifer to just spend time with you, regardless of whether you were doing something for work or you were just relaxing together

My Designer

Pairing: Photographer! Niki x Designer! Reader
Length: 382 words Genre: Fluff
Warnings: use of niki's legal name, the word saliva, bonus scene
Synopsis: An image of you captures your attention at Riki's display for the school's gallery..
Note: Literally wrote this because of the 'wait a minute designer, you got that / 자비로운 너의 날개 who shot that' line in VAV's Designer. Is this a drabble or a imagine 🤷♀️ who the fuck knows More: Check out my orchard to find more of my works!
── ⋆⋅ಇ ⋅⋆ ─── ⋆⋅ ಇ ⋅⋆ ─── ⋆⋅ ಇ⋅⋆ ──
You looked up the hung photo, you recognized the college workshop and yourself in the image. The sunlight surrounded you giving the photographed you an ethereal glow. You remember the moment that the exact picture was captured. Riki was spending time as you worked painstakingly on a piece for an upcoming project at the time. But the male had proved to be an hinderance to your progress on the clothing instead. The two of you stopping multiple times to exchange saliva between each other. Riki had pulled away, allowing you guys to catch your breathes, and he had been taken aback by the way you looked: perched onto the studio table with a radiance caused by the light. A blush warmed your skin as you studied the image, Riki's perception of you especially in that specific point in time.
"That's my favorite too," a voice spoke up as an arm was thrown over your shoulder. You looked over to your boyfriend, but his focus was on the picture. "It's a masterpiece in my humble opinion," he added, turning to look at you as he did.
"Oh yeah? Well then, in that case, I think I just have to have it" you teased, eyebrow quirking with a smirk. You quickly glanced back at the image before giving him your full attention. "How much to bring it home?"
"The photograph or the photographer?" Riki was facing you now, both of your bodies turned to the other, a flirty smile on his lips. You hummed in fake thought while tapping your chin playfully.
"The photographer" you replied as you stepped closer into the male's space.
"For you? On the house."
Bonus
"Please tell me, you guys don't always flirt like this?" a new voice interrupted the couples bubble. Riki's friends were standing there; some with scrunched noses while others looked ready to puke or either didn't care. You and Riki laughed; while it wasn't your guys' intention to mess with the friend group, the two of you would still take it as a win in your books. Deciding to go a step further, you grabbed your boyfriend by his jacket and pulling him in for a quick but deep kiss. When the two of you separated, there were matching wide grins on your guys faces.

The Death of Physical Media
I keep seeing this concern around all of my home theater circles. Ever since Best Buy decided to abandon physical media there has been a call to arms to save it.
Chris Stuckman did a great video on his love of physical media.
youtube
I admire and share his passion.
That said, I think there is nothing to stop physical media from being scaled back. At best, it will end up like vinyl and only a few select titles will still be pressed.
Which is why I think saving physical media is the wrong fight.
There is a much larger fight that encompasses more than just blu-ray discs...
(I'm going to use really big letters for dramatic effect so don't get startled.)
DATA OWNERSHIP!
(Imagine a long trailing echo when reading that in your mind.)
(Sorry, I probably should have included those instructions in the previous parenthetical. So go back and read "data ownership" again with the proper gusto.)
(Did you do it?)
(Was it cool?)
(Cool.)
A blu-ray is just data.
The disc does not positively affect the visuals or the sounds. It's just 1s and 0s coded into microscopic pits. You can put that data on a hard drive. You can put it on an SD Card. You can put it on a thumb drive and wear it on a necklace.
You can even use WinRAR to break it up into little 1.44 megabyte chunks and save it to floppy disks.

Another 40 more cases of floppies and you've got Avatar preserved for life!
The medium is not important.
The *data* is important.
And as everything turns into a subscription we are losing out on ways to own data. Beyond that, people aren't yet seeing the value of owning data. If renting a digital download is cheaper, they are almost always going to choose that option.
So the fight is two-fold.
We need to fight for the right to parrrrrty own data.
We need to convince the populace of the value of owning data.
This can apply to software, movies, video games. Hell, I don't even own my damn doorbell videos. There is no way to download all of the footage. I'd have to do each video one at a time. And if I don't keep my subscription, I will no longer have access to that data as it will soon be deleted.
We would need a platform similar to Steam—though it isn't the perfect data ownership solution. Many titles require internet connectivity and DRM verification. What happens to our media when a company goes out of business and the infrastructure to verify the DRM over the internet is gone?
So that would need to be addressed. Perhaps a new form of DRM linked to our digital identity that can be verified locally.
I mean, I'd love to get rid of DRM, but that is probably not realistic.
I think the best avenue is probably a congressional law.
"The Own Your Own Data Act"
TOYODA?
We can workshop the name later.
In conclusion, we don't need to save blu-rays. We need the option to buy data and actually own it in perpetuity.
Meaning if a streaming service deletes a movie or a movie studio goes belly up, our data doesn't disintegrate along with it. We cannot let our favorite shows go extinct. We need to be part of preserving that history. Not to mention discs have a shelf life. But data can be transferred to new mediums indefinitely.
My house is just going to be wall to wall floppy disks.

Carlos Diehz: cinema’s architect. All about Conclave’s premiere
Carlos Diehz felt a special inclination toward acting when he was a child. However, his shyness led him to study architecture, though he excitedly recounts his time as an extra in The Man in the Golden Mask, which French filmmaker Jean Reno shot in Mexico City in 1989. After over 30 years of working as an architect, living in Canada due to his job, and witnessing how his children grow up, the Mexican rekindled his interest in acting and began taking classes.
“With the kids out of the house, I said: ‘Now I can do whatever I want, and I thought about acting’, since it was unfinished business for me. I chose an acting studio in Vancouver, but then the pandemic happened, so I started searching online and found an acting workshop. It was great. It lasted eight weeks, three hours a day, and I learned a lot. One of the lessons I learned came in the first class when a teacher said: ‘If any of you are taking [this workshop] as a hobby or just to learn something new, don’t make me waste my time and don’t waste yours because this is a business and you are your capital.’ That idea stuck with me, and I took it seriously”, Carlos Diehz said in an interview with Excelsior.
A couple of days ago, the actor and the rest of the cast of Conclave stepped onto the stage to receive the Best Cast 2025 Award at the Palm Spring International Film Festival. In the film created by Edward Berger, Carlos Diehz plays Cardinal Benítez, a Mexican priest who lived in several conflict-torn countries. He arrives at the Vatican to join the conclave that will designate the next Pope, not imagining that his presence would be highly significant. With only three short films and a formal acting career of three years, the Mexican actor has captured the attention of international media, primarily due to his importance in Berger’s story, whose film All Quiet on the Western Front received a nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay at the Oscars. “One day, one of the acting and life coaches told me: ‘You are the hero of your own story, and in the end, you get what you’re looking for, but if you don’t know what you’re looking for, you’ll struggle constantly.’ It was in 2021 when she asked me: ‘What is your wildest dream to accomplish within the next five years?’ and I said: ‘In five years, I want to be in a movie working alongside Oscar winners or nominees, if possible.’ At the time, she thought it was cute, but it was what I wanted. One must follow their passions, and there is no age limit. Acting was a pending passion of mine, and it worked out—it’s going well. We’ll see what happens next”, Carlos said via Zoom. In September 2022, he received the movie script for Conclave from a young agent who worked with him. He knew the role was his when he read the character’s description: a Mexican priest of small height, brown-skinned, and with a “peculiar” voice that the actor describes as soothing. After a long talk with the film director, during which he expressed to Berger how he envisioned the character, he got the role that put him in the limelight within the film industry. “When I met with Edward, he asked me what I had in mind for the role, and I told him I thought of Saint Francis and Saint Ignatius. They saw God as a mother because the relationship with their fathers was difficult. I told him Benitez treated everyone with maternal love, [because] a father is a guide but is also authority. In contrast, a mother is affectionate, nurtures the emotional side, and, at the same time, steers it. So I told him Benitez was like that. I got the role, and I recalled some teachers telling me, just when I was beginning, ‘Keep going because someone has already written a role for you’”, recounted the actor born in 1971. Amidst the euphoria sparked by Conclave, which last Sunday won Best Screenplay at the Golden Globes and recreated the Sistine Chapel in Cinecittà, Carlos Diehz has a clear stance on fame. “The people in front of the screen are just like any of us. Talking to them in Rome was about life, not work, and you realize everyone is the same. We all suffer, we all love, and we all cry in the same way. Being there at the front and having that fame—it's all temporary. It comes and goes, and they all know it. That’s why they keep their feet on the ground, and that’s amazing. It doesn’t matter how famous they are in their field; everything is temporary.” Diehz told us he will continue to combine his job as an architect with his acting career since both are his passions. “Both are an escape from the other.”

I would like some Alastor with my favorite MBTIs Reader here:
Alastor with ESTP! Reader
Alastor with INFJ! Reader
and Alastor with ISTP! Reader
Headcanons.
Pt1 Pt2 Pt3 Pt4
I also added at the end my MBTI, I haven't taken this test since I was 16, and though most of my personality has stayed the same, two of my letters have changed. Bet you can't guess which ones.
ESTP (Entrepreneur) Reader:
Alastor enjoys the business side of you, even though it reminds him a lot of his time back with Vox. However, you balance your business and friendships well. You mix work with play almost as smoothly as whiskey goes down for him.
Alastor hates when you jump into things head first, not because he is against seeing what happens to you but because you always manage to come out on top. He has never known someone to rival him in pure power and knowledge.
He finds your bravery almost pathetic if it weren't for you constantly picking a bone with him to see who really is the most powerful between the two. He finds your inability to be scared of him almost endearing and frightening.
Being highly perceptive allowed you to see Alastors' masks much easier than others. This created friction between you two until he realized that having a like-minded confidant was all right.
Overall, Alastor really likes you. He sees a lot of himself and past friends in you. Please be aware of your competitive defiance, though it can vex him. If you consider that, though, he will immensely enjoy your direct and perceptive nature.
INFJ (Advocate) Reader:
When Alastor first met you, he thought he had met another Charlie, but much quieter. Your introverted nature confused him, especially with the big goals and plans you boasted about to your friends. Yet he saw that you, like himself, like to work in the shadows for a more significant cause—even if that cause is for the greater good and against him.
Alastor finds your need for altruism all too close to home. When you came into his life with these grand ideas and a sense of not belonging, he wanted nothing more than to prove you wrong and show you how amazing you are. Yet that leads to weakness and his need to be altruistic alone.
Alastor took your kindness for granted, leaving a sour taste in both your mouths as he managed to ruin something good between you two before it even started. Yet you never stopped being kind, allowing him to find new things about you to love and attempt to understand.
Alastor, also the ever-elusive figure he is, understands the complexity of being burnt out and having difficulty picking up where one left off. However, with you in his life, he finds that you two can help the creative imbalances within each other as they arise.
Overall, Alastor enjoys your kindness, creativity, and articulation. This allows him to overlook some of the qualities he finds annoying most and lets him accept his deep, hidden kindness for you and all your friends.
ISTP (Virtuoso) Reader:
Alastor's first meeting with you was chaotic. You found a million and one things in the hotel that needed shaping up, and all of this made Alastor even more peeved that you were changing his ideas. He wanted nothing more than to blip you out of existence, but as you fixed things and they came out better than imagined, he slowly grew to enjoy this, even giving you some of his own personal objects to fine-tune.
It worried Alastor at first, as more people began seeking redemption, how you closed yourself off in the workshop that Charlie added for you. He thought maybe someone had wronged you, yet as he learned that you just didn't care for strangers or large groups of people, he slowly began to work on his scripts in your office or even bring your tinkering tools into his studio so you two could quietly still spend time together.
Your brash bluntness tends to cause many fights in the hotel, especially with the eccentric Lucifer and the cold, calculating Alastor. Though Alastor enjoys knocking Lucifer down a peg or two, he hates it when you call him out on his actions. This creates brief tension between you two that fades as soon as he needs a new thing fixed.
Alastor, working with the Shadows has always been a hot topic between you. Your being overly skeptical and his believing in what worked for him led to many discussions and arguments. However, when Alastor warmed up to you and showed you how his magic worked, you had a face of wonder and understanding as you two began researching and looking into all these new possibilities.
Overall, Alastor enjoys how you can overcome any adversity and still remain true to your authentic self. Yet when it comes to your stubborn and blunt opinions, he sometimes would like to pass. If you two can find a happy balance, everything will be good.
ENFP (Campaigner) Reader:
Out of all the others listed, you terrify Alastor the most. You are so energetic and the exact duplicate of Charlie. You seek to find emotional connections and understand people to new extremes, which terrifies the poor deer man, as he can not risk anyone knowing his deep, dark secrets.
Alastor finds your way of thinking odd, that how we treat one another is, in turn, how the world will treat us. He did nothing wrong as a boy, and the world still treated him wrong. Yet when you explained your reasoning for why that could be, he was amazed at how articulate and powerful your words were.
Alastor found it terrifying that your warm, empathetic nature allowed him even a moment of vulnerability, let alone many moments that have him seeking you out privately more often than not. However, your tendencies to internalize and seek answers to his problems worry him, as he notices you sleeping less and less while you worry away over him.
Alastor can not stand your people-pleasing tendencies and often will be a bad cop for you so you can get some rest. As stated, it is tough on him when he is the reason you are people-pleasing. This sends him into a fit of rage when you sit there and keep trying to be the listener and fixer of the group, forgetting yourself and your needs.
Your warm, kind personality was a total put-off, but as he realized you had a way with words that rivaled even his momma, he found himself warming up to you. Find a way to balance your need to help everyone while still taking care of yourself, and I am sure Alastor will have fewer heads to roll.
