While there's some things I enjoyed about the 1998 Les Mis Movie, I will NEVER forgive the ending. I'm sorry, but there is no world where Valjean would walk away smiling as Javert kills himself. Like, I'm not just saying this as a Valvert shipper - I truly think it's such a genuine disservice to Valjean's character to do that, considering that JVJ saves and forgives Javert MULTIPLE TIMES in canon. Valjean would not smile at anyone's death, especially not anyone's SUICIDE! Even if that person is Javert! He saved Javert's life, and you write him SMILING AS HE DIES? NO WAY!

Thinking abt old man Sonic again......

I have this image in my head of Sonic being all excited and visibly happy abt something and is rambling on and on (probably abt an old book he re-read recently that he had forgotten the plot to) and going really fast and stumbling over his words and stuttering bc his mouth can't keep up with his thoughts but he doesn't care and just keeps infodumping

Meanwhile Tails gives him his full attention, making sure he knows he's listening bc he missed seeing Sonic so.. Alive. Like, really, truly alive. Which doesn't happen all that often now that he's over 200 years old and his countless near-death (and actual-death) experiences have taken their toll. It's just nice to see him be so happy and more like his younger self again. And of course Sonic himself is happy to feel this way again bc he's free of any worries and pains if only for a little while

Things had been building for a long while you see. The tension. It's on the 10th month mark, and Toshi's called to his agency to prepare for an interview he can't afford to decline. AFO is, ofc, dragged along much to his chagrin.

The place the interview is being held will be full of other Pros, those attending including three of the other Pros In The Know (Hawks, Endeavor, Best Jeanist), so he'll be closely watched while Toshi is interviewed.

The interview itself is nothing special, just something delving into what Toshi's retired life is like and how it's treating him, and Toshi bullshits it all with a smile. (offstage, AfO smothers a laugh, which earns him the sharp glares of the trio keeping watch of hom)

It's late when things wrap up, and Toshi's just fucking exhausted. It's almost casual, the way AfO presses his hand to the small of Toshi's back, gently guiding him away. Toshi doesn't flinch, doesn't move away - he leans into it, even, absently swiping away notifications on his phone - and then he says "let's go back to the agency. I'm damn tired, and it's closer. They clean my penthouse once a month so it shouldn't be too dusty."

And AfO just gives a slow blink, brow quirking. His lips curled into a smile like a satisfied cat. "How often do they sweep for surveillance?"

Toshi just gives him a toothy grin. He was tired of being under constant watch just as much as AfO was. Might Tower was one of the most secure buildings, and while Toshi didn't doubt the HPSC had their spies planted amongst his staff, his apartments were nigh impenetrable. It was fine.

Probably.

AfO certainly doesn't complain when they enter, and he sees Toshi's collection of vintage wines that hadn't been so much as touched since decades passed - since they were gifted to him by some politician he could barely remember.

AfO is enraptured. So many rare vintages! Just going to waste!

(AfO loved his alcohol, and it was very much not in the budget granted to Toshi by the HPSC, so he's been rather derived)

(It's a night of many mistakes when Toshinori agrees to a drink that he definitely shouldn't have)
