When I was five, I was a precocious youth. And I loved (still do) all animals. My parents, being wise, early taught me how to approach an animal I wasn't familiar with. I still follow these lessons to this day.
Back to being five. We lived in Texas, and I encountered a strange creature. I'd never seen something like this before. It had a decent number of legs, pincers, and a long tail. Slightly yellow and brown, I would later come to know of this as a scorpion. But at the time, I only knew it was one of the many amazing creatures of this beautiful Earth. So I squat down next to it and it stopped walking. I held out a hand in front of it and it flattened its tail which I took as a sign I could pet it. It was very small so, as I was taught, I was extremely gentle as I stroked its back.
Meanwhile, my father was maybe ten feet behind me, frozen, afraid if he startled me I might get stung.
But that didn't happen. The scorpion seemed to relax as I pet it, calm in the presence of this "giant" being, and for a moment, everything was peaceful.
Not wanting to take too much time from the creature on my driveway, I finished petting it and backed up slowly. It stood up and raised its tail again and went along its way.
That day I was taught about venomous creatures and the need for extra care around some animals.
I don't know if there's much of a point to this except maybe that even scary things can be beautiful creatures and we can always afford to extend love and gentleness. Maybe we should be more careful than I was, but if I had been, we wouldn't have this nice story, would we?

Shout out to 11 year old me who took eight sheets of printer paper, folded them in half, stapled the crease, and wrote How to Train Your Dragon fanfiction.

Sometimes I wonder how I didn't get any-core memory type of trauma when I was a little kid and instead until my near-tween to actual teenage years because childhood was sorta rough in a non-extreme way like most people until I realize it was probably because I wasn't super sentient and acted like a literal fetus until up to a certain toddler/infant age. Like I vividly remember being a really sensitive little girl atleast who cried infront of everyone when my Pre-K teacher would yell at me in the classroom, like I understand people can get sick and tired of little children being brats or whatever but how was I supposed to know anything??? I was like 4 or 5, lady...why are you yelling at a slightly more physically grown baby for being messy??You should atleast be somewhat more compassionate but maybe thats just me :/.

a small child came into the café today and asked to buy a chocolate truffle. he tapped a credit card on the reader and it did not go through, mainly because it was not a credit card but in fact a junior cinema pass. i gently explained he couldn't use that to buy things in shops and he looked so gutted that i was like "...but just this once you can have it for free, don't tell my boss though" he said thank you and walked out with his truffle and as he went i heard him chuckling to himself and saying "yes..... yes!!!!!" like the sickos comic

Crocodile finds a strange stray cat an 11-year old Nico Robin (AU where they met 13 years earlier. Robin's been on the run from the World Government for 3 years. Crocodile's 27 and has not set up base in Alabasta yet)
It seems like I have become possessed. By some sort of demon.

having a child has taught me that every toddler is completely justified in their frustrations and tantrums because learning how to do something you have literally never encountered or heard of before is insane. and being expected to be completely calm in the face of this constant barrage of overwhelming information is doubly insane.
i got charlie a sticker activity book and it occurred to me i have to TEACH someone how to unpeel stickers. it's SKILL that requires DEXTERITY and FINE MOTOR ABILITY. i thought it was obvious that you have to curl the page a little bit to create a break in the cut so the sticker comes up.
obviously a fucking BABY wouldn't know that because they have no background experience to inform their thought process. OBVIOUSLY. and OBVIOUSLY the LITERAL BABY wouldn't get it right the first few times. it would OBVIOUSLY take practice. lots of it.
i hate this feeling. it's so obvious. why are children treated so badly when they're learning everything for the first fucking time. why do people treat children so horribly and expect so much. they're brand new. why didn't i get the same grace i give to my child? why did no one have patience for me? why, when it's this easy?
it's so easy. it's so fucking easy.

I'm bored and stuck at home due to the weather so here's atleast a few weird and dumb stuff I thought or experienced as a kid that in randomly thinking about now I guess:
1. I remember it was sometime in grade school and I remember it was either near or was Black History Month so out teacher wanted us to write something based on Martin Luther King Jr. and I sorta remember the concept was something along the lines of how modern day life would be different negatively if MLK didn't make the change that he did in society when it came to combating segregation and anti-blackness. Nothing bad happened but I remember something silly which is when at the end of my essay or paragraph(I don't remember how long it was supposed to be I was too young and barely remember anything more recent in a clear state anymore anyways so *shrug*)but I remember thinking that my mom was a black woman because little me didn't know yet that there were more than white and black people or that biracial people could exist(my mom is a latina person and I don't think a white latina either unless she's just naturally more tan and has more non-eurocentric features I guess? Btw I am very clearly a white latine person if you were to meet me irl atleast sooo). I don't think anyone caught up on that in hindsight but I just thought it was interesting.
2. For a lot of my academic career aka school days, I would go to a very catholic and patriotic family-oriented school for all grades except high-school since my mom mostly ran the household at the time I suppose and wanted me to follower her faith since she grew up with it. Not saying that's bad or whatever obviously, but I remember chatting as a girl to another girl at the lunch table one day and I don't exactly remember how the convo got there, but she brought up the idea that if your parents live eachother very much and are good people who believe in God or something that they'd get a baby and not yk...having sex or something since we were little kids. I then brought up the new information to my dad later that day when he came home after helping me with homework, feeling like such a smarty-pants I guess you could say before he sat me down and told me that it was technically more than that(My dad's a Christian btw, so he wasn't saying that it was wrong to love God). He then sorta attempted to gently explain the "Birds and the Bees" to me since maybe he felt like it was important for me to learn before I ended up freaking out and feeling nasty. Idk it was sorta blurry but it's still funny to remember sometimes heh.
3. Since my mom is not from the USA originally and instead was from a Spanish speaking Latin-American country(not gonna be explaining the specifics due to safety and privacy atleast just incase), she obviously had different customs and cultural traditions along with other practices she wanted to share with me since she got here from knowing those from North America. Nowadays the idea is good and my mom was atleast right in attempting to get to know new stuff from a non-white point of view, but I remember the music being played in the background and people chatting amongst eachother being really loud atleast in the ears of little girl me and it made me sorta annoyed at her side of the family(Not in a racist way obvi, but more like in a "Omg my family is so embarrassing can you guys stop being so crazy??"type of phase that I believe some kids go through).Eventually, now that I've grown older I've grown more appreciative of those types of experiences as it's very important for children to try new things and for those who may have varying heritage to try out non-american stuff related to them.
