I don't dislike generative AI for art and other creative works because I have an arbitrary divide on what level of automation/pre-processing in art is acceptable (it used to be the norm for artists to mix their own paints, now it's not).

I hate it because it's a PLAGIARISM MACHINE.

I hate it because it is currently made predominantly out of theft of people's work and violation of their intellectual rights.

I have zero objections to an individual artist or collective voluntarily feeding their work into a specific program and playing around with that data set. I don't object to the tool. I object to theft.

Look. I bake for fun. I have baked from scratch, from box mixes, and modifying box mixes. I do not care if people decide to scrap all of that and just buy some tasty factory made cookies.

I object to them walking into my kitchen, swiping my cupcakes off the table, scraping off the frosting, walking into my neighbor's kitchen to steal a bowl of frosting my neighbor just mixed, slathering it on the stolen cupcakes, and then claiming there's nothing wrong with what they did.

Hmmmmmm how about Kaji, Ume, Suo, Sakura and Kiryu reacting to their s/o telling them they’re on a no-sex-ban for a whole motherfucking week HELP ALL BECAUSE OF A PETTY ARGUMENT

Kaji’s in disbelief at first. Are you serious? Unfortunately for him you are, which leaves him brooding more than normal for the week and everyone can tell. It’s not that he NEEDS it technically, but its like when someone tells you you cant have something and you start just…thinking and thinking and thinking and now he’s antsy, but he does stick it out to the very end if only because he’s insanely stubborn.

I think Ume’s actually more bothered you both argued even if it was petty. The no sex ban doesn’t affect him much as long as he can do other stuff. A week without cuddling and kisses would kill him probably, but he’s pretty satisfied just spending the time making up with you and getting back to normal.

Suo’s kind of a petty bitch (at least to me) so he ends up thinking “alright bet” when you tell him no sex for a week. He ends up making it harder for YOU during the week with how much of a tease he is. “You said no sex! I’m just stopping where I’m at so I follow your rules,” he says so smugly you wanna throttle him. Makes you hold yourself to it. If it was a more serious argument I think it’d be different though.

Hmm…Sakura’s baffled like Kaji, but more because he has no clue what that has to do with the argument. Realizes you’re punishing him despite there really being no correct side to your argument and just grumbles about it. He’d probably get the wrong idea though and assume you don’t want him to touch you at all. You’re probably gonna have to talk to him about it or apologize, because in the end he gives you too much space (while pouting the whole time)

Kiryu’s also a little petty but not as much as Suo is. Accepts your terms and respects them, but tells you if you change your mind, he’s more than happy to go whenever. If you try to initiate he’ll be like “but what about the ban? are we lifting that now hm?” all soothing and sweet as he rubs your calves and thighs with his hands. I think he’s one of the few that just talks you out of it by hitting your weak spots.

Mmm I can feel that i am very close to plunging into an "everything I have written is shit and should be burned in a bonfire and I should never touch a word processor again" spiral, I would really rather not, but i also don't know how to stop this train in its tracks.

Fellow writers if you have tips to share re what has worked for you in a similar place in the past they would be much appreciated.

Snippet of the re-write if Lessa's Impression from my very slow progress on Change the Fates' Design Part Three:

Lessa planted her feet firmly on the burning sands; you must not show a moment’s fear, that arrogant bronzerider had said. What might happen if she did had not been explained. A few yards away from her the other young women clung to each other, wincing from the heat and shrieking at each wobble of the giant egg. 

You like the heat? a deep feminine voice asked. It resonated in her mind, not her ears, just like Mnementh’s had in Ruatha. Lessa turned her gaze from the faintly golden-hued egg to the truly gold-colored dragon lying in the middle of the sands beyond it. The clutch-mother. Nemorth. F’lar had said she was dying, but the faceted eye swirling with shades of blue and fixed intently on Lessa did not look it.

No, Lessa thought back with the barest hint of a shrug. But I’d rather feel rather the burn of sands than of ice. She had done enough winter chores in nothing but flimsy sandals and poorly made socks to know that.

A rumbling noise issued from the dragon, making the girls shriek again. Lessa sighed. As the rumble and the shrieking subsided, a human chuckle reached her through the odd echoes of the cavern. Lessa looked down, away from the huge eye; there between the dragon’s forelegs a tall, fat woman in a green dress was being eased onto an odd sort of chair by a youth in the same white robes Lessa and the other women wore.

I said in the tags that the Pern fic is a conversation with canon, and it is, overall, but the conversation in Part Two is also very specifically an interrogation.

Because I went into this planning Part Three, which is an AU in which Jora lives and how does that change things for Lessa, but to write that, okay, to write that AU we have to ask how did Jora die?

The way Jihyuk's confession is tinged with such sweet sorrow... Let me explain.

I'm probably off base and just. Reading into the acting choices that Na Inwoo is making right now, but like. It's so sad. Like, he's saying it and you as the audience knows he means it, but there's this sense of "ah, but i know she won't actually say yes even if i bare my all to her". And he's doing just that. He's laying it down on the table for her to see that he's absolutely sincere about her and he is 100% sure and serious about her.

But what thrills me to no end about his confession is how he also lays out the boundaries for her without disrespecting himself. He tells her to take her time to think about it but not to reject him outright, and how he won't pressure her or push the issue, and in the next moment actively SHOWS her and articulates to her that he won't be jumping into the same taxi as she is and will be taking the next one.

Jihyuk continuously walks the talk when he tells her she can rely on him. He fulfils his promise to teach her martial arts and gives actionable advice. He is quick to notice (something Jiwon picks up on) that her proposal is getting hijacked and tacitly plays along. Of course, you could argue that him being from the future has already given him insight that the Manager in charge is gonna land himself in hot water, BUT STILL :D

Is it any wonder how he is the greenest green of flags? ;A; Also sidenote, the way Na Inwoo was acting out the confession scene reminded me a lot of this very beloved cinematic moment of mine

And to a slighter degree, it reminded me of the moment where Hua Cheng tells Xie Lian "... I am your most ardent devotee"

i like to imagine that jason was just like- the normal one before his death, to the point that it kinda scared bruce and Alfred, like wdym your not bouncing off the walls (literally) 24/7? wdym you did your homework already? Wdym you don't need to be reminded to watch your language when we go to events? And were Dick would have been attempting to see what was sturdy enough for him to swing around on Jason was just... up in his room, reading sense and sensibility. And don't get me wrong he still a little rough around the edges sometimes like Bruce has to remind him to pull his punches a little more than he had to with Dick but overall he was a good kid who got good grades and did overall good work in the field while not as brilliant a detective as his successor nor as nimble as his predecessor Jason was a good Robin in his own right. And tho no one ever says it bruce was probably his happiest when jason was his robin.

I’m still very fascinated by the melodies of “Come to Me”, “On My Own”, and “Epilogue” in Les Mis. Especially the last lyric/tune “To love another person is to see the face of God.” Because that's exactly what I think this whole melody means, and even the entire story. I got that from this video, analysing the melodies of On My Own, and I just couldn't help but add my own thoughts!

To love another person is to see the face of God can be applied to most characters I can think of, especially the suffering ones. And it doesn't even have to be interpreted religiously! Seeing the face of God as in finding meaning and light and hope in an otherwise dark and devastating world is what these characters are going through, and they’re feeling this hope and purpose through their deep and unconditional love.

Valjean is sombre about his life even after his redemption through Bishop Myriel. He is kind to everyone and lives life with good intentions but it's incomplete. He doesn't love anyone in particular to feel truly happy, that is until he comes across Fantine and Cosette, and that’s when his life is truly given a purpose by having Cosette as his adopted daughter. Fantine, on the other hand, has an optimistic start in her story, where she’s loved and is “loved” by her friends and Tholomyes. And even when she’s driven into poverty and prostitution, it's not all for nothing, because she still has hope, she still has Cosette. And that’s when she sings “Come to Me” as she is dying.

Marius treads through the difficulties of poverty, refusing assistance from anyone, because of his love for his father. And he’s made more peaceful and joyful when he sees (not meets) Cosette (even though his actions towards her were questionable). Eponine is aware of this and finds love in him because of it. Love and hope she couldn’t truly see in her recent life of poverty, and misery. With him, even though he doesn’t do much for her, she lives in a world full of happiness that she had never known. And that’s what drives her to do all the favours for him. It’s what keeps her going, what gives her bleak life a small, but precious purpose. 

 Enjolras, though he isn’t mentioned to be going through anything bad in particular (and despite saying that his one true love is his country, not a specific person), is ultimately also driven by the love he has for his friends. They’re more than just a political group for him to lead, they are, as mentioned, his family.  Each of the amis is driven by love, for the country, for their other loved ones, and for their friends. And they were willing to march to their deaths because they had hope, they had love. And in the end, Enjolras is nailed to the wall by eight bullets that take his life away, symbolizing each one of his friends that he died for, even Grantaire. And especially Grantaire, who was struck to the floor with one bullet as he died for Enjolras. He is drowning in a life full of absinthe and nihilism and the suffocating depths of hopelessness and Enjolras is the little light on a little boat far up in the surface. He stays with Les amis for his friends, yes, but he does so most especially for Enjolras who is the only hope in his life. That’s why his life has meaning, and why he gives one to his own death too.

But what about Javert? He hadn’t loved anyone in particular, and as far as I know, he was only attached (not truly loving) to the justice system he thought was fair. And this lack of meaningful love separates him from everyone else. That’s why he’s the only one who commits suicide. The life he thought was meaningful, the purpose he thought he had was all a lie. And he couldn’t ever live with that.

“Tell Cosette I love her and I’ll see her when I wake.” Is so full of hope, the hope that these characters still hold because of the ones they love. “A world that’s full of happiness that I have never known.” Is their misery, the struggles and despair they would have in their lives if it wasn’t for their love. “To love another person is to see the face of God.” Sums it all up. And I think that’s beautiful.
