It's Time To Investigate SevenArt.ai
sevenart.ai is a website that uses ai to generate images.
Except, that's not all it can do.
It can also overlay ai filters onto images to create the illusion that the algorithm created these images.
And its primary image source is Tumblr.
It scrapes through the site for recent images that are at least 10 days old and has some notes attached to it, as well as copying the tags to make the unsuspecting user think that the post was from a genuine user.
No image is safe. Art, photography, screenshots, you name it.
Initially I thought that these are bots that just repost images from their site as well as bastardizations of pictures across tumblr, until a user by the name of @nataliedecorsair discovered that these "bots" can also block users and restrict replies.
Not only that, but these bots do not procreate and multiply like most bots do. Or at least, they have.
The following are the list of bots that have been found on this very site. Brace yourself. It's gonna be a long one:

The oldest ones have been created in March, started scraping in June/July, and later additions to the family have been created in July.
So, I have come to the conclusion that these accounts might be run by a combination of bot and human. Cyborg, if you will.
But it still doesn't answer my main question:
Who is running the whole operation?
The site itself gave us zero answers to work with.
Tumblr media
No copyright, no link to the engine where the site is being used on, except for the sign in thingy (which I did.)
Tumblr media
I gave the site a fake email and a shitty password.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Turns out it doesn't function like most sites that ask for an email and password.
Didn't check the burner email, the password isn't fully dotted and available for the whole world to see, and, and this is the important thing...
My browser didn't detect that this was an email and password thingy.
Tumblr media
And there was no log off feature.
This could mean two things.
Either we have a site that doesn't have a functioning email and password database, or that we have a bunch of gullible people throwing their email and password in for people to potentially steal.
I can't confirm or deny these facts, because, again, the site has little to work with.
The code? Generic as all hell.
Tumblr media
Tried searching for more information about this site, like the server it's on, or who owned the site, or something. ANYTHING.
Multiple sites pulled me in different directions. One site said it originates in Iceland. Others say its in California or Canada.
Luckily, the server it used was the same. Its powered by Cloudflare.
Unfortunately, I have no idea what to do with any of this information.
If you have any further information about this site, let me know.
Until there is a clear answer, we need to keep doing what we are doing.
Spread the word and report about these cretins.
If they want attention, then they are gonna get the worst attention.

Tumblr (for newbies):
Reblogging ≠ reposting. You aren't stealing content by reblogging it, it's basically a 'group share' button. It also helps give artists/posts attention and you can reblog to interact with people. Reblog things you like.
Reblog bait. You can reblog it, but if a mutual hates reblog bait, you may tag it with 'reblog bait'. Or, find a tag with your mutual to put on posts they don't like, and block the tag under the 'content you see' tab in settings.
If someone reblogs your post, and you like their reblog, you just liked your own post.
(Sideblog section)
See my name? This is a gimmick. If a Tumblr says 'officially-(company/country/state)' then it's probably a gimmick! Check their content first because there are a few actual brand blogs, like Grammarly!
You can only make 250 posts (per email) on an account per day. This is called 'post limit' or 'PL'. I am currently on account 2, because I post too much. You may or may not hit post limit in your lifetime.
You can create as many sideblogs as you want, but you cannot like, follow, or send asks as a sideblog, and if you do so, it'll show up as from your main.
(Gimmicks)
Nobody can see your main from your sideblog, so you can have as many followers on your gimmick and none of them on your main
You will see gimmicks. A lot. It's fun.
You can interact with a gimmick as a non-gimmick
As a tumblr user, you have anon powers. You can turn any/most gimmicks into a pretty princess by typing something like '*turns you into a pretty princess*' into their ask box.
Nobody will be mad at you for making a gimmick. At all. There are like, 4 Jesus gimmicks. And it's great.
(General)
Tag a mutuals post with '10k to me', 'future 10k', '10k', or 'this will have 10k' for some fun chaos :3
Submit posts to PM Seymour's discord for MORE fun chaos
(General controls and understanding of Tumblr)
If you are in a youtube video online, you have broken containment
If you are getting a bunch of notifications from a post, you can hold down a notification from it or click the three dots on the post and click 'mute' to stop getting notifications (other than mentions)
You can also filter your notifications by clicking on the top left of your notifications tab and tapping 'custom'
The 'for you' tab of Tumblr is what the algorithm thinks you'll like based on your interests and stuff
The 'following' tab is blogs and tags you follow
On Tumblr, you can add not only extra notes in the tags but also regular tags. Spaces are allowed
If you get an ask from a Palestinian blogger, check yourself (you may find places where it's vetted/verified in their reblogs. You can also tell by them having no photos/story at all [no name, no information, just a donate link], and scams commonly use photos from Google images. Be suspicious if there's anything other than GoFundMe or something similar. PayPal is banned there.) or send a screenshot to me/somebody who offered to help. Then, you can answer the ask so people who can donate can see it, or donate yourself. DO. NOT. PRESSURE. YOURSELF.
Tumblr has a unique punctuation, in a way. which you will figure out on your own. An example is. periods to show a slight. pause
It reminds me of poetry
You can post whatever you want and you will find your people
Block people who make you uncomfortable and report bots for spam.
Welcome to Tumblr
Do what you want forever

good evening reddit users, welcome to the website. not seen one of these that tells you how to make this website bearable so here goes
Tumblr media
starting off with dashboard settings you want to turn off endless scrolling (it slows down the website after a while of scrolling), turn off shorten long posts because one of the main things about this website is the total lack of a character limit (as an alternative to this setting, you can press j to skip to the next post on the dashboard if the current one is kind of long). turning on timestamps is convenient because it allows you to check when a post was made (don't get me wrong: this website absolutely LOVES reblogging old posts, but there are times when it's worth checking if a post has very old news in it)
Tumblr media
turn off best stuff first right away. one of the main reasons cited for joining tumblr is because "there is no algorithm". this is not entirely true, we have one but we routinely turn off anything algorithmic that staff adds. turning off best stuff first means your dashboard will be reverse chronological no matter what, and turning off based on your likes and stuff in your orbit will get rid of the rest of the algorithmically-recommended content that appears on your dashboard
following tags is nice because you will occasionally see posts with tags you follow sprinkled into your dashboard. this is considered good because it's almost always recent, I personally recommend turning on include followed tag posts and just following a bunch of random tags that you think could be interesting (characters, media, topics, whatever)
Tumblr media
this one's a more personal thing but I would absolutely turn off any community labels because tumblr staff has recently been just putting a bunch of random posts under this despite being entirely sfw. if you ACTUALLY want to filter content, then go to filtered tags:
Tumblr media
unlike the community labels which are put arbitrarily by staff, tags are put on by the actual users and so you can MUCH more reliably filter out content you don't want to see by putting filtered tags. this also works for any kind of content unlike the community labels, meaning you can just filter out stuff that you don't want to see (a particular character, a particular piece of media, a certain topic, anything you want really)
Tumblr media
turn on custom theme immediately. the standard view of tumblr.com/url will give people who are not logged in a forced login wall, meanwhile url.tumblr.com will not. by doing this you also get access to your post archive at url.tumblr.com/archive, which lets you look through your posts more easily (the search function is awful). the main benefit of this, however, is that you get to have a custom look to your blog: going to edit theme brings up a menu that allows you to customize your css, add pages to your tumblr blog, etc. all very useful stuff
it's also worth taking the time to consider whether or not you leave your liked posts and list of blogs you follow public (most people have likes turned off, following is also commonly turned off but I personally don't care about others seeing who I follow)
Tumblr media
turn off the let people blaze your posts. blaze basically allows you to pay money to show a post to a random group of people by paying money, suffices to say that allowing others to blaze your posts without your consent will inevitably lead to one of your personal posts getting blazed by some prick and now hundreds of people have seen it
asks are one of the main ways of interacting with blogs so absolutely turn them on. whether you allow anons is your choice, anonymity allows people to say nice things without feeling embarrassed about how everyone knows who said that, but it also allows people to send hateful stuff with no consequence.
submissions are like whatever. I personally leave them on but in my 5 years of having this blog I've been submitted to twice.
to close off this post I'll leave my personal thoughts on reblog etiquette:
reblogging is great. reblog the fuck out of anything. does the post amuse you slightly? reblog it. go wild
that being said please don't put anything in your reblogs unless it's like a really important comment. your comment will be immortalized forever if someone reblogs the post from you and on popular posts I have to constantly go back a couple years to get rid of an annoying comment like "LOL THIS IS SO FUNNY" because that person didn't realize that their addition was wholly unnecessary
if you DO want to add something to say your thoughts on the post in a quiet voice that doesn't get permanently added onto the original, consider talking in the tags of your reblog. this is considered nicer since when the post is reblogged from you your tags are not going to stick around. there is also this process known as "peer review" in which if your tags are sufficiently funny one of your followers (or sometimes a random person browsing the notes of the post) will screenshot/copy and paste your tags into a reblog, which is a much more natural way of having your comment added into the post
tags are also nice to use or organizational purposes. clicking on a post with a certain tag on your blog will show you every post with that tag on your blog allowing you to find posts later, alternatively you can go to url.tumblr.com/archive/tagged/[insert tag here] to a similar effect.
that's all I have to say on this subject. have fun on our glorious website
edit: oh yeah also unfollow staff. it will make you look normal 👍

sup yall we're vibing here
anyway. hey, my name's freddie, and i'm finally trying to write an actual intro/master post which... we'll see how this goes.
important stuff is highlighted in orange.
so, basic stuff:
as I said, my name's freddie. he/him pronouns. i'm a college student (majoring in accounting, might add a psych minor). not gonna say which college but i'm currently in california.
i've been on tumblr since 2019 i think? not under this account, this started as a fandom account and then spiralled out of control... really fast. um, my regular tumblr which i've not actually opened in ages is @chronicchthonic14 so. yeah.
not particularly relevant to this blog, but i might mention it at some point so, i have autism and adhd. and some other things but. like. that list is very long and those are the two most relevant because i promise if i come off wrong/mean, i didn't mean to, i just forget to make my words normal. but. those are the two most referenced. if for whatever reason someone wants to know more or has questions you can send an ask ig?
i'm scottish, born there. moved to US when I was four. finishing uni and moving back.
some quick warnings
this blog definitely contains cursing/vulgar language, whatever you want to call it, so if you're not comfortable with that, probably not the blog for you, as i don't tag cursing or anything for you to filter out.
if, for whatever reason, if i ever reblog something that contains a slur (against racial minorities, queer people, anything) i will ABSOLUTELY tag that though.
also if anyone has any trigger warnings they think any content needs, please let me know-- asks, dms, comments, reblogs
the cursing thing also applies for sort of dirty jokes? think that only applies to like. two posts and very not explicit. those aren't currently tagged but if they get any more explicit they certainly will be.
queer identity because the explicit reminded me, i'm asexual, and probably straight. maybe bi? dunno, don't particularly care. and i'm trans. ftm. this isn't the blog i talk about that on usually though, unless it relates to a specific ask or a fandom thing.
which, getting into what this blog is for because i can't think of anything else i need to add here (guys let me know if i forgot important stuff, please, i'm an idiot!!! i will forget the important stuff and write random shit instead!! i've already deleted three tangents from this!!)
sooooo
fandoms!! ones i write and/or post about or will potentially post about
percy jackson extending to hoo, toa, tkc (definitely post way less about this), mcga (again, way less). haven't read TSATS or COTG yet, but spoilers are fine. i post way more about minor characters. write fanfiction for and have some posted (both on here and ao3) and a bunch of snippets.
dcu-- films, comics, animated shows, all of it. personally, my favorites are young justice (the comics, not show version), new teen titans, and batman inc (batgirls, nightwing, and red robin esp). late 90s yj run is my favorite, and i loved the DCeased event. favorite batman comic is definitely court of owls run. no fanfics posted, but some on docs.
mcu-- way less so, but have a stucky oneshot. slowly making my way through in timeline order.
throne of glass. i'm an aedion and chaol apologizer because they do a bunch of dumb shit but then WHO DOESN'T in this series. fanfics in doc, not posted.
this would go on for ages if i listed everything so instead, here's an ask i answered on my fandoms/genres and everything. feel free to send me asks about anyone. if you send me something about radium girls i may cry though (tears of joy) so there's your advanced warning.
main things you'll see on my blog are incorrect quotes, snippets, and the occasional fic
this^^
my... idk, contact policy? seriously what do i word this
asks are always open, anon is on.
if you send hate... whatever. i'll probably delete it.
unless i find it funny. then I'll post it. there's really little you could say to me that would hurt.
when i say asks are always open, you can drop anything you want.
literally anything
you need to vent? want advice? want to request headcanons? request a fic? give me a prompt? ask random things about me? something else I've forgotten? go right ahead
if you want to ask me to update my fics? go right ahead. sometimes i forget i didn't post something.
send as many asks as you want, i don't care if it might be spam
i can't promise i'll respond to asks in a timely manner, sometimes i open my inbox and forget they exist for months, i'm sorry. if it's something you really want answered you can send another one
dm's are alright? if you want to be friends or something, go right ahead.
anyone can reblog any of my posts/comment/heart, i don't care. you want to heart 50 things in a row? i adore you. if i had kids, you would get my firstborn
if we're mutuals you can ask for my insta/give me yours.
now, other accounts:
anyway, i think that's it?

ASKS ARE OPEN
OOC
Hello, this is an ask blog for Percy Jackson (currently age SIX). Some general information about the blog is listed below, followed by some story details. If you have questions about this blog, start here. :)
Story Progression
The blog's story will progress in real time, so on August 18th Percy will turn six and start school that September. From there his life will progress according to canon. Unless you readers try to influence his actions with your questions. :)
Content Rating
Though I am an adult Percy is a minor and as such this blog will always be safe for work and minor friendly. Any unsavory asks or replies will be filtered out by Sally since she is the one physically maintaining the blog and helping Percy respond.
Audience Interactions
An askblog depends on asks, so if there is a message you would like to send to Percy or Sally, no matter how trivial, please send it!
Likewise feel free to respond to his answers via reblogs, comments, or by sending follow-up questions. It may not be clear now, but this blog will have a story and your interactions/responses to Percy and Sally will have an impact on what happens, so please don't hesitate to interact!
Roleplay
If you're a roleplayer who would like to interact with this blog, please go ahead! I'd love to interact with you in character. We can use the classic, time distortion/it's a dream/it's just an internet troll excuse to make up for any timeline discrepancies or character duplications.
I am not familiar with Tumblr RP etiquette, so I have been avoiding instigating any interactions with roleplayers, but I'm more than happy to respond to your messages.
Timeline
In order to keep a consistent posting schedule (once a day) asks are normally answered 3-5 days after they are received. If you haven't seen your ask yet, it doesn't mean it won't be answered, I just don't want to run out of content by posting a bunch of answers at once. :)
Formatting
I will not be using color coded text in my responses because I believe that would make it more difficult for people using screen readers to understand. Please assume any text you see is coming from Percy. The way it works in character is that Percy tells Sally his answer and she types and posts his replies. Sally's comments are written in parentheses and always preceded by "Sally:" with her name in bold text.
If the question is addressed to Sally specifically or if she is the primary one answering, this will be reversed. These posts will start off with Sally letting you know she is answering personally. She may include comments from Percy in parentheses. These comments will start with "Percy:" just like the Sally ones do in Percy's posts.
Occasionally, if it makes the most sense, I will post their responses in script format, meaning the name at the beginning of each line will specify who is responding. I know this all sounds overly complicated, but I hope and believe it will make sense in context. Let me know if there's any confusion. Thank you!
Tags
The second tag I use is usually the character speaking, so you know right away whos POV it is. Specifically I use the baby Percy Jackson tag to add context. Some others are explained below.
Character Tags #baby percy jackson - the question is answered primarily by Percy. #sally answers - the question is answered primarily by Sally. #perry the penguin - this post contains information about Percy's imaginary friend. #mrs. banner - this post contains information about Percy's elderly neighbor. Special Events #percy's legend of perseus - this post is part of percy's retelling of the Perseus myth. #50 follower event - this post is from or about the 50 Followers Event we held which featured young Annabeth taking over the blog for a week. #percy likes axolotls - this post is about axolotls, an endangered species. Question Tags #ocean ask - this question is about or related to water, the ocean, or sea life. #percy & sally - the question is about percy and sally's relationship. #greek mythology - this question is about or related to greek mythology. #percy draws - percy drew a picture for this ask. Other #ooc - used for out of character posts, normally just posts that have info about the blog, etc. #volley - i am responding to a reblog and there may be back and forth dialogue going on. #demigods and technology - percy or sally complaining that percy can't use the computer #reading is hard - percy complaining about his dyslexia
Story Details
Some reoccurring names and references Percy uses are explained below. As well as general details.
Percy and Sally live alone together in a small aging apartment.
Percy does not know he is a demigod yet or have any powers. Just like in canon he won't have any of his powers until after he learns he is a demigod, or gets closer to twelve years of age. Just like in canon he believes his dad was a mortal man who was lost at sea.
Mrs. Banner is an elderly neighbor of Percy and Sally's that sometimes watches Percy. She has mobility issues and a grumpy pet cat. She recently moved into a care home because of her illness.
Perry is the name of Percy's imaginary penguin friend. Perry is a secret agent. (But for who?)
Percy would like to save the axolotls.
More to be added...

Did we post more Dracula fic because of Dracula Daily? Yes.
Tumblr media
Starting with the “Dracula - Bram Stoker (Novel 1897)” tag on Ao3, sorted by date updated...
May-Oct 2021: 72 fics
May-Oct 2022: 249 fics
That’s 3.5x as many fics, over the same period.
Okay, but what if there was a natural increase?
Tumblr media
If the Dracula fandom had been getting bigger independently, then it should have increased fairly steadily.
But there’s a noticeable bump in May 2022, when Dracula Daily started. Before that time, there were under 25 fics per month. After May, there were almost always more than 25 fics per month.
So yes, it seems linked.
What the hell is going on with October?
I used Ao3′s “date updated” filter to grab this data, and it has a recency bias. Multichapter fics show up under the date the most recent chapter was posted, no matter how old they are.
So it could be that October has a massive jump because everyone got emotional about Dracula Daily ending.
Or it could be that a bunch of people updated multichapter fics and so those fics are showing in October instead of something else.
But even if we just count May-September, this year had three times as many fics as last year.
Could another fandom be responsible?
Ao3 has a “Dracula & Related Fandoms” tag which contains 39 sub-fandoms - the novel itself is just one of these. I deliberately chose not to use the multifandom tag, because I knew it would contain a lot of distracting data.
I assumed that almost all fics prompted by Dracula Daily would be in the novel fandom, and that other major Dracula-related fandoms would generally not use the novel tag very often. But I didn’t actually check.
In short, it’s possible.
Further research...later
There’s a lot of other analysis that would be interesting to do, but frankly, it’s all going to be a lot more reliable in a few months’ time, once the recency bump can be separated from the Dracula Daily bump.
So look for more from me in the new year!

Toastystats: F/F, F/M, and M/M on AO3
I'm starting to post my deep dive stats that started out as me looking into "F/F vs. M/M on AO3" -- it has turned out to be really useful and interesting to include F/M in most of these analyses (I'd like to also look more at other categories eventually; see further discussion about nonbinary characters). Here are some of the topics I'll be covering: Length, Ratings & Smut, Dark content, Tags & tropes, Growth rate, and Case studies of parallel-ish ships of different genders.
You can read the intro & fanwork length chapter now, and more will be posted soon! You can also listen to me discuss a bunch of the data on the latest @fansplaining episode, Femstats February.
Below are some excerpts of the fanwork length chapter -- but please click through to AO3 for elaboration/clarification/corrections, as well as for descriptions of the images.
---
Tumblr media
(Terminology: "F/F-focused" means I filtered out every other relationship category else except "Gen," so as to remove ambiguity, and similar for F/M- and M/M-focused.)
A few observations:
These breakdowns are a lot more similar than I’d expected. There are differences, but they’re not overwhelming. It’s not like F/F is mostly just drabbles.
F/F does have the highest proportion of short fic, followed by F/M, and then M/M...
But the long fic end of the scale isn’t what I expected at all! M/M is the least likely to have works over 50K words (this graph doesn't actually show the decimal points due to lack of space, but M/M only has 2.0% of its works above 50K words, while F/F has 2.4% over 50K). And F/M is the most likely to have [works over 50K words]!
....Next, I wanted to look at reader response to long fic.... First, let's look at the word count breakdown for the works with the most kudos...:
Tumblr media
We can see that, probably unsurprisingly, many of the works that receive the most kudos are long -- but I was surprised how strong that bias is. Nearly half of these popular works in the F/F and F/M categories are over 50K+ words (I -- or someone else -- should follow up by further subdividing the "over 50K" category, but I haven't done so yet; for now I only used the same word count buckets that I used previously.). Surprising to me is that M/M has a lot more shorter works that get a lot of kudos; only around 1/3 of the M/M works with the most kudos have over 50K words. I'd be curious to hear any theories about why this is.
....Okay, so lots of popular fic is long -- not too surprising. But now let's flip things around. instead of looking at how long popular fic is, let's look at how much reader feedback long fic gets, and see if any category clearly gets the most or least feedback.
For this, I took a very specific slide of [long fic]: works 100K words to 101K words long. I did that because I wanted to compare long fic of the same length across the different categories. But these specific numbers are therefore not accurate for most definitions of "long fic," and should not be taken too seriously -- hence the asterisks on the following slides (Edit to clarify: I did also look at a couple other long slices to check that these general patterns seem to hold... but I haven't confirmed it for all long fic). I did this just to try to get a rough sense of the ranking or the categories. Let's take a look:
Tumblr media
Wow! I was surprised to see that F/F averages the most kudos! And that F/M gets the least of all these types of feedback by quite a lot!
Is this because readers don't seek out F/M as much as the other works? Or is it because F/M readers don't tend to leave as much feedback after they read something? To answer this, we need to look at the number of hits (views) that each category gets:
Tumblr media
Fascinating! F/F long fic gets the largest number of hits on average. (Maybe this is because F/F works are the rarest, so more people seeking out long F/F fic view each fanwork, on average, as compared to the other categories?) And we can see that F/M long fic gets the fewest hits per fanwork. (Again, maybe this is because there are a lot of long F/M fics out there, so there's less scarcity, and fewer people view each one?)
Okay, so to follow up on the question of whether F/M readers are less likely to leave feedback after viewing a work -- we can compare rates of feedback. For each work I calculated kudos/hits (I actually looked at kudos per 1000 hits to make the numbers easier to think about), and then I took the median of all those numbers to find average feedback rate. I did the same for comments and bookmarks:
Tumblr media
The main takeaway here is that the reader feedback rates are remarkably similar. (Again, this is based on one narrow slice of long fic, so I wouldn't take the small differences here seriously.) More people view F/F long fic on average, and fewer people view F/M long fic -- but the rate at which they leave feedback appears to be roughly the same across all categories.

Since I just gained a bunch of followers and I'm going to hazard a guess that some of you are new here (or returning after a long time away), want to talk about some Tumblr basics? First up, tagging.
You can put spaces in your tags on Tumblr! This is very exciting and often why you'll see people putting commentary in tags—because they can.
It's usually considered more polite to put commentary in tags, so as to leave the original post relatively uncluttered. I find this to be especially true of visual posts like fanart and GIFs. The best time to reblog with a comment is when you're actively looking to engage in some kind of dialogue with the post you're reblogging.
Tag commentary is kind of like a whispered aside. On my own posts, I often use that space for post-scripts of a sort. I have done this at the bottom of this post, for science.
On posts that you create, tags help other people find your post through their searches. It used to be that only the first five tags on a post showed up in a search, and now it's the first twenty.
If you are interested in a topic, you can follow its tag. So, for example, if I'm interested in [throws a dart at a board] seeing Daemyra content, I can follow that tag and posts from the tag will show up on my dashboard from time to time. Here is how to follow a tag and manage followed tags.
(It's worth noting that Tumblr uses ship portmanteaus but also sometimes longform ship names, so if you're posting your original Daemyra content it's often wise to also tag it "rhaenyra x daemon," "daemon x rhaenyra," and other variants as well. Remember, up to twenty of them count!)
Tags—of both your original posts and of your reblogs—also help organize your blog. I create specific tags for posts and answered questions about my fics that I try to use every time they're relevant to make it easy for readers (or, you know, me with my goldfish memory) to find them. Here's the tag for Out of Time.
You can organize your blog, or not, however you want. I also choose to tag characters prominently featured in a post, the media property shown, and so on, mostly just for my benefit. Here are most of my original and reblogged posts featuring Daemon Targaryen. Some people get very, very granular with their tagging, but some don't tag at all. Dealer's choice!
Lastly, Tumblr has pretty robust content filtering, so don't censor yourself in tags or in the body of your post. If you post, say, #p*neapple and someone is trying to avoid posts tagged #pineapple, you might accidentally ruin their day.

How-To Tumblr for Dtblr :]
So, I've seen a few newer blogs start arriving from people who have never used this site/app before and I just thought this might be helpful to get started because it's quite a bit different from Twitter.
To start, the dtblr community has dwindled since last year so there are literally only about 500 of us left I'd say and thats being generous and including lurkers. Speaking of that, lurking is a great way to learn how to use this site! Follow a few blogs or lurk in the main tags for a while to get vibe of how people use this app. When you find a blog you like, see who they are reblogging from and check out their blogs, its a good way to find people to follow since people like to keep their follow lists private.
Making your blog! First things first, get a pfp and a basic bio at least or people will assume you are a bot and block you if you follow them.
On tumblr we have Main Blogs and Side Blogs. Everyone has one Main Blog, and you can add a bunch of side blogs, people use them to keep their fandoms separate and to save urls (don't hoard too many urls on blogs you dont use, it kinda sucks and is technically not allowed, but around 5-10 isnt so bad). A lot of people also might use side blogs because they dont want to get blocked by someone they are following or liking from that is in a different fandom. Like, if you wanted to follow blogs from other mcyt communities, I would stongly recommend making a dtblr side blog instead of a main, because you will most likely get blocked. There are a couple of differences between Main and Side blogs though, here is a link to the main tumblr help post about them but a couple quick things here-
-Main blogs are where you (and everyone else if you don't turn it off!) can see your likes and follows. Everything that you like or follow will show up under your Main blogs url, so keep that in mind.
-Main blogs are what you send Asks off anon from, you cannot send asks using your Side blogs url, so again, keep that in mind.
-When you block someone, it will only block them from your Main blog, you have to manually type in their url to block them from your Side blog. You can also ip block Anons who are being shitty or harassing you.
Lots of people will have Pinned Posts that you can basically use a longer bio (I recommend making them non-rebloggable). You don't have to make one and it's not weird if you don't, but you have the option. Lots of people have 'Blinkies' in their pinned, you can make them here if you want.
Tips for your settings!
-Hide your Likes and Follows!!! Even if you come from Twitter and you think it's not a big deal, it's kinda seen as really weird here to leave them visible and it makes you stand out and people weary of you, plus you should enjoy the privacy!
-Under Account, turn off 'show top posts'. You can also choose whether or not you want to allow Anon asks from there. if you are getting hate, I recommend turning them off for a while.
-I recommend going to Dashboard Preferences and turning Off 'best stuff first', and then turning On'shorten long posts' and 'snooze Tumblr live' (you will have to snooze tumblr live every 7 days but trust me basically everyone does it).
-This is actually pretty important, go to Account settings and turn OFF 'let people blaze my posts'. That feature allows other users, without your permission, to pay to have your post boosted as an ad basically to a certain amount of random people. this can even be done with your asks, and it has the potential to cause harassment and I strongly recommend turning it off.
-Under Account setting and Content you see, that is where you will be able to filter out tags that you do not want to see. For neg I would recommend, #neg #negativity, #discourse etc. If you don't want to see certain ships you can filter those. For stuff like spiders, I would do a couple variations of #spiders, #tw spiders, #spiders tw #arachnaphobia, etc. because there are a lot of different ways people will end up tagging stuff like that. This is also where you can change your Mature Content setting. They default to Hide, so set those as you prefer. You can Hide, Blur, or Show.
This is a link to the x-kit extension, it has a lot of customizable settings for tumblr, but it can only be used on desktop and requires a little more knowledge about using the site but its here if you want it.
I think those are the most important things, other settings can be left up to your personal preference (try out the color palettes to find your favorite!!)
Tags!
-Tags and Tagging are super useful on Tumblr! This post has a very good rundown of how Dtblr uses Tags to filter content for the community, pls learn these they will help you a bunch!!!
-When you make a post, the first 5 tags are the most important, they will show up in the tracked tags. So make sure you use community/main tags first if you want your posts to be seen, this is most useful for artists or gif makers etc.
-When you reblog a post, the tags are just for adding commentary and organizing your blog, you dont have to worry about your tags from a reblogged post ending up in the main tag searches. Talking in the tags is very fun and a great way for even shy people (me) to interact with the community. They are used a lot more than Replies, it tends to be mostly mutuals that use Replies on each other's posts, but it wouldn't exactly be weird if you did choose to comment in the Replies.
-You can use custom tags for your blog! Lots of people come up with custom tags for their asks, their personal posts, just pick your favorite variation of gnf, gogy, gogs, georgie, and many more to organize your george gifs! and its also pretty common to see someone post a . (just a lone period or comma) and then just rant in the tags. people do that if they want to vent or something but dont want it to be reblogged. - if someone reblogs a post and tags it with 'prev' they are referring to the tags of the person they reblogged the post from, the 'previous' tags. (tumblr recently nuked this feature with the new update but you might still see people doing it, its just super hard to find the source now)
-#709 and #404 are common tags that people will use on posts from outside of dtblr to stay covert/subtle so as to not get mass blocked when referencing our ccs. #709 refers to Dream and #404 to George.
-Tagging posts as #nsfw has the potential to get your blog restricted. I recommend using #nsft (not safe for tumblr) or #not sfw instead.
Etiquette
Liking and Reblogging- Tumblr does not have an algorithm, liking posts is basically just bookmarking them. If you want to support writers/authors/gif makers etc. PLEASE reblog their posts, it is the only way for them to gain visibility. You can even make sideblogs specifically for reblogging art or fanfiction if you wanted to.
We don't make call-out posts here. If you have a problem with a user, block them, end of story.
And we do NOT interact with Anti or Critblr posts. Critblr is tumblrs Leaktwt, do not interact with them, follow them, reblog from them, or bring attention to them, you will be blocked by the majority of the community if you do. We are very small, and interacting with anti posts will do absolutely nothing but bring us all mass harassment and invite them to start interacting with us. Pls do not screenshot their posts and share those either especially with the url visible. If you feel the need to have discussions with antis, do so on twitter. Please ask before screenshotting and uploading someone's post to twitter. A lot of us are not comfortable with it at all, and some of us are okay with it as long as you leave out the url but please ask because we generally dont want our stuff on that platform where CCs could potentially see it.
And I think thats all I've got i think, so I hope this post helps you guys with getting started on Tumblr! :]

i genuinely dont mean this to be shady but do you have any tags for your larry/1d related so i can block them? bc i always LOVE your takes and answers but i dont think i want to religiously see those things on my timeline and i also dont think i want us to unfollow each other lol
Hm! On the one hand, if people don't want to see something and ask for a tag, usually no brainer, ofc. And you're very sweet about it! But first of all to be clear, this is a One Direction fan blog; Louis is my favorite and I mostly blog about him, but I think it's all fascinating and all of them are interesting to me even if only for having been part of everything that happened. But that's not really the point here- the next most posts after Louis solo content I have lately are Zayn posts and you're not asking me to tag those even though he was in 1D; this is about what parts of Louis people want to see. But the thing is: larry and One Direction posts ARE LOUIS CONTENT, that's part of following Louis and talking about him and what's going on with him, which is what I DO! And actually I'm not into being part of the project of trying to erase huge parts of his life by acting like it's shameful or separate from current day Louis. I don't think being the most influential part of the biggest band in the world is shameful or something he would want danielled, and I don't think Harry Styles is evil and needs to be erased from history. I think that pretending big parts of Louis' life didn't happen is weird and is pretending he's someone other than who he is, which is basically insulting him if you ask me because his actual self is great, and like… I'm not into it. In this house we appreciate ALL of Louis!
However! I do tag my thoughts posts ("blah blah blah") and anyone can follow that as a tag (or other specific tags of mine like screen design or louis promo or what have you) if they unfollow me as a blog to just see my wordy ass takes and not all these glorious Louis pics and updates (and occasional other things). And if I follow you now I will continue to unless you post a bunch of things I don't like (ie about how much you hate 1D and larries lol or you just get really enthused about some untagged anime and I can't handle it); this is a sideblog so I can't easily see who I'm mutuals or not with, and I follow or don't based on whether a blog's content is what I want on my dash or not, period. There are lots of lovely people who I think highly of but don't follow and I support anyone doing the same, do what works for you. But I hope you instead choose to keep the small number of 1D and larry posts I make or reblog on your dash and take the opportunity to get to know Louis better by also letting those parts of his life be part of your picture of him rather than erasing it, which I think does him a disservice, and also leaves out a lot of context for the present moment. You say you appreciate my takes and thoughts: the things I chose to post are part of that! It's food for thought maybe! But also anyone can also just filter some key phrases or blogs and get rid of a lot of whatever they don't like that way from not just me but everyone ;)

ok wait i so appreciate the blocking advice but wouldn’t filtering that way also have gotten rid of this post with the warning? since the blocked url would be in the text of the post? as well as blocking if they rb something. so i would block the content but also the helpful information. or am i misunderstanding how this filtering works? thank you so very much
(bear with me i am severely sleep deprived for unrelated reasons. i’m gonna try to make sense ✌️😵‍💫)
when you filter a tag or content of some sort, it doesn’t hide it from you. in fact, it stands out when you come across it
using my blocking advice post as an example, this is how it looks when you have the url filtered
Tumblr media
and presumably you remember why you filtered the url in the first place, so seeing a post get caught in that filter on a blog like @/killy, it would make you raise an eyebrow. make you go 🤨
so you click (or tap i guess) the “view post”, and then you see the full context
Tumblr media
and so you see that and you’re like oh okay, this is a post that got caught in the filter because the url was mentioned in the purpose of showcasing what an incredibly vile racist ey are
in contrast, let’s look at this example that i’m gonna go dig up right now (i had to remove my age old vas/pider filter for this, and also breaking up the url as to not jumpscare people who have good content filters)
Tumblr media
this example is less “hmm 🤨” and more “oh ofc😑” but i digress. below is the same post, we clicked view post to see the post
Tumblr media Tumblr media
this sort of thing is quite common. not everyone notices the urls in a reblog chain, in fact i’d say it’s quite common for people not to. go into any mildly popular post by one-time-i-dreamt and you will see endless comments stating how they didn’t read the url first or how they missed the url
so when you filter a url or you filter a tag, you are making them pop out on your dash and be extremely conspicuous. and then you can look at the post critically and see what the context is. by filtering urls or tags, you are infinitely more likely to notice the post in the first place, rather than the other way around.
that’s the end of my explanation, but stick around if you wanna hear about one option of what you can do if you see someone you know or suspect simply isn’t aware of who they accidentally platformed
personally i’m always that guy who if i see someone has accidentally reblogged a post with someone like roa/ch-wo/rks or vas/pider or prism/atic-bell (the unholy trifecta of “people who can never resist the urge to add inane bullshit to a post” & are “very popular so their inane additions get spread around” & also “they are gigantic pieces of shit”) (also sorry for the slashes but i’m trying to not make this the most horrifying post ever to people who filter responsibly), if i see a blog like that be nestled in the reblog chain i will dm the person who reblogged it to my dash and let them know who they accidentally put on their blog.
i also always try and provide a link to a post that illustrates why they’re a piece of shit. usually i’ll try and find a post from the blog itself, but that can be hard to do if you don’t know what to search for and how. the easiest way is usually to just plug the url into the search bar and see what comes up (yes you will have to click “view post” a few times to see what’s going on, alternatively you can temporarily remove the filter for that url)
here’s an example that also reminds me i have to add vas/pider back to my filter:
Tumblr media
if you have issue finding a post addressing the problems of the blog you’re looking for, i’ve found that the best way to find stuff is to have the search perimeters set to “top post” and “last 6 months” or “last year”, “latest” is sometimes better but often can give you a bunch of 0 notes posts along the lines of “i’m so fucking sick of [blog you searched]”

i’m a sucker for these kind of ask games so i hope you don’t mind a bunch of emojis: 🙌 & 🦉& 🌠 & 🍎 & 🛌 & 👩‍🎓
Waaah so many! I see you so often in my inbox and in my notifs Im happy to answer all of these for you!
(ask game)
🙌What's a line or paragraph of yours that you're proud of?
I had to dig through some of my wips and stuff but I think my favorite are tied between two different lines I've written for RTU (aceyuu madoka au fic)
You think if he could, he'd drag God down from the spigot in which they drink their divinity and present it to you in a golden chalice. If just to do what he wants. He acts like he already has.
And
It’s light again, in the morning as the sun filters through the broken window, you poking him awake to get to class.
Ace has never been one to get sentimental, the idea of love is frightening, to be frank. But looking at you again, light curtaining your features, he was reminded why he did what he did.
The first is from the synopsis and the second from the original request I got the idea from! I'm very excited to officially start posting it as i have it's chapters just about mapped out!
🦉Is there another author that helped inspire you to write?
I don't think intentionally? I'm sure that I've picked up a bit of other's writing styles and got inspired here and there from multiple people, the only one I can think of I don't want to bother and tag them lol but I've reblogged their posts every so often. I know of one case with a-twistedheartslonging that I really want to write about the TWST museum post they had a while back because I know so much about museums yall
🌠What are your top three most commonly used tags on AO3?
Not sure actually, but I think for my own fics its usually humor or sexual content but I only post my long fics or requests on ao3 so I'm not sure if that's the best representation of my writing lol
🍎What's something you learned while researching for a fic?
I researched a lot about animal mating and stuff for that one headcanon post I did about non-humans in TWST and my search history was wild for a while.
🛌 What's a trope you haven't written, but want to?
I kinda want to write a soulmate au or something of that nature I'm such a sucker for those stories! It's the yearning that gets me, the yearning!!!
👩‍🎓 Do you have an 'official' creative writing background such as a degree or previous experience publishing?
I have 3 degrees (i made questionable decisions during my undergrad which is why i have multiple already lol) and published a paper, but nothing in the creative writing field since I'm in social sciences. I like writing but not sure if I could invest into it as a career lol

Hi! I've been a long time reader of your works and we have like 3 fandoms in common (jjk, yuri on ice, mcu) which is the Dream for an average fic reader like me. Thank you for putting all these out to see. I love the way you write, it really pulls me in no matter the genre. Your mind is amazing.
On to the questions:
1.I kind of want to start writing myself, do you any advice for a beginner?
2.On average, for how long are you into fandoms? How much time does it take for the brainrot to take root in your mind?
3.What kind of media do you usually enjoy?
I hope I didn't bother you. Please stay healthy and safe!
That's delightful on my end too! Love seeing cross-fandom readers. And thanks so much ❤️
1. The advice I have is mostly social and technical. In terms of the writing itself, all the reading you do is likely to give you an idea of what you want to write and how to go about it, and practice will refine the process.
Given the fandoms you've listed, you're likely already familiar with how rancid fandom spaces can get. This depends on your disposition, but being braced to deal with shitheads is important, whether that comes in the form of puriteens or entitled assholes without a brain-to-fingers filter. This is mostly a case of "do as I say, not as I do" because *gestures* you know what my online presence is like, but I'd recommend the following:
(a) Make an account just for writing that's entirely divorced from any and all IRL information or even previous fandom shenanigans. It reduces chances of people digging through your history and other such demented things.
(b) Block liberally and, failing that, be enough of a dick that people will think twice about picking a fight—the more accommodating you are, the more these fuckers will act like sharks scenting blood. There's a reason I stopped accepting tag requests, slapped CNTW on everything, and generally adopted a "my way or the highway" stance toward everything I post. The alternative isn't worth it. YMMV, of course.
(c) Write whatever you want however you want, and don't show an ounce of shame or guilt. Even if you feel it, don't show it. Fake it till you make it. Like above, it's safer than the alternative.
The technical advice is to get a copy of the Chicago Manual of Style; there's an online version, a paper version, and also good old pirating. It may look intimidating, but it's got a beautifully indexed list of damn near every grammar and punctuation element (and a lot of other stuff). I started using it for work, and while I'm way more lax with my own writing than I am with editing, the CMOS still did wonders for my general understanding of the technical side of creative writing.
2. It varies based on a bunch of factors, but my usual pattern is to spend several months just reading while the obsession grows stronger and stronger, to the point I start getting ideas. And we know what happens when I get ideas 🤣. I generally don't stay in a fandom for more than a year. But there are exceptions! I was in the MCU for some three years. I started writing for JJK less than a month after watching it (though this is mostly because I couldn't find much to read—not because fics were low in number but because I was and am extremely picky), and I'm rapidly approaching my 1.5-year mark.
3. A mix of things, but so far, fantasy is the most common theme across various media. I enjoy most subgenres of it too.
And absolutely no bother! I had fun answering, though I may have gone overboard with #1. I feel a little protective of new writers these days because I keep seeing so much vile shit happening online.

Ok time for some trans/queer centric personal rambles. Happy pride I guess lol.
So for those who don’t know me. My name is Ani. I’m non-binary and use they/them/theirs pronouns. I don’t mind terms like dude and bro being used for me but in general I really don’t vibe with most gendered terms. I don’t know how to say this without it being weird so just bear with me on this, but I have female reproductive organs.
Seeing art and stories and smut and whatever of characters of a whole variety of gender identities with the same/similar anatomy to me has majorly helped my own dysphoria. Kink and smut and porn and all that “gross” shit was immeasurably more helpful than online discourse about how it’s ok to be trans but only if you have dysphoria and want surgery.
I know not everyone finds porn helpful for dysphoria. I don’t need to be told that fetishization can be harmful and biggoted and cruel.
But every time I see people saying things like “no kink at pride” or saying that porn(hell even just the vaguest suggestion of sexual intimacy in any form) needs to be hidden and locked away so children aren’t “tainted” or bitching about “bad fetishes” like CNC I just have to wonder.
Do they realize that that’s exactly what the people fighting to make being gay illegal are saying?
Like. There’s plenty of fetishes out there that personally disgust me. I won’t list them because 1) why would I and 2) I can just not engage with those fetishes/communities. I might occasionally stumble across it online and be briefly like “yuck” but then I just add to my filtered words/tags/blocked users lists and move on with my life. My own personal taste doesn’t get to be used as a litmus test for what types of sexual proclivities are “ok”.
As for the idea that anything that could trigger someone’s trauma is bad. I hate seafood. The smell of fish ties into one of my greatest sources of childhood trauma. Just being around people eating fish can send me into a dissociative episode. But I don’t get to demand everyone in the world, or even just around me, never eats fish again because of it.
Just because something traumatized me doesn’t mean I get to insist no one ever do it or post about it. I know my own boundaries. I keep myself safe. If someone tried to trick me into eating fish or sent me a bunch of fish pictures online that would be awful. But unless I set up some sort of insanely strict “no fish allowed” zone and never leave it, that’s a risk I willing partake. This metaphor is falling apart now but I hope you get the idea.
Just. If you, personally, find content of a trans person with specific anatomy wanting to be pregnant upsetting. That’s ok! But if you then try to use your discomfort to argue that no one should ever be allowed to create or share that type of content? You’re an asshole.
And to be clear this isn’t just about “puriteens” or whatever. This is also about full grown adult queers who see a person in a pupppy mask with a collar on walking in a pride parade and act like they’ve been personally attacked and harassed.

okay i guess people are coming to tumblr from reddit so i figured i'd make my own guide because the other ones piss me off
so first things first
you're going to want to change your pfp/header/blog description off of the defaults. tumblr has a pretty big bot problem so blogs with default pfp/headers are usually a block on sight for most people. you may also want to make a post saying your new from reddit and maybe reblog some things.
thats the most important thing the rest of this is pretty optional
you're going to want to go into settings under the dashboard tab and change some things.
Tumblr media
Endless scrolling: preference thing, i prefer to have it on but you could turn it off if you wanted
Show timestamps on posts, reblogs, and notes.: you're going to want to make sure this is on, posts circulate on tumblr a lot longer than they tend to on other sites. seeing posts from 5+ years ago is a pretty common occurrence.
Shorten long posts: turn this on, you don't want to get color of the sky'd.
Use blog colors when viewing blogs: another preference thing, i personally have it on but there are many reasons you might want to turn it off.
Tumblr media
Best Stuff First: you're going to want to turn this off if you want a chronological dashboard.
Include stuff in your orbit: most people will tell you that you must turn this off but you really don't have to, i turn it on myself from time to time. it just puts stuff the people you follow have liked on your dashboard occasionally.
Include "Based On Your Likes!": another one most people will say you need to turn off but you don't really need to. personally i leave it off because if i want to see stuff based on my likes i just go to my for you page.
Include followed tags post: you can turn this one off if you want, i'm not sure why you would follow a tag if you didn't want to see posts from it occasionally.
Enable colorized tags: a preference thing, you can turn this off if you want.
Snooze Tumblr Live: you probably should turn this on but i got tired of turning it on every week so i just ignore the tumblr live stuff. whatever you do don't use tumblr live it's run by another company and harvests your data. EDIT: Tumblr Live was removed a while ago
next your gonna want to go to your blog settings.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Enable custom theme: i would really recommend turning this on. it lets you do a bunch of crazy stuff with your blogs theme (including just straight up editing the html) and it also gives you back your [blank].tumblr.com url instead of your just using the tumblr.com/[blank] url.
Share posts you like: makes your likes public, i would recommend turning this off.
Share the Tumblrs you're following: makes the blogs you follow public, i would recommend turning this off.
now for some feature of the site
Tumblr media
this is the like button, you press it if you like something. you can only like a post once. some users will bitch at you if you use it, kill them.
Tumblr media
this is the reblog button, you press it if you want something to show up on your blog. you can reblog a post as many times as you want.
you can add tags, text, images (anything you could put in a post) on a reblog but you don't have to.
Tumblr media
this is the reply button, you press it if you want to leave a comment on a post. it's kinda strange and i don't like using it.
tags
tags are cool, you can use them to find things or organize the stuff on your blogs.
some people say the search function doesn't work which just isn't true. sure searching for the content of a post doesn't really work but searching by tag works pretty well in my experience.
to do this type the tag you want into the search bar and then click "Go To #[tag]"
Tumblr media
you can also filter tags if you don't want to see posts with that tag, they'll still show up on your dash they'll just be blurred and you'll need to click on them to see them. it will say which tags it has that are causing it to be filtered.
people also often use tags to leave a little comment on posts or communicate back and forth or hold additional information.
community labels
i don't really see people talking about these, i don't think many people use them, but your probably going to want to set these to either "Show" or "Blur"
Tumblr media
note: if you set a label to "Hide" posts with that label will not show up for you at all
iirc all of these are set to "Hide" by default so remember to change that setting if you want to.
one last thing: the queue
the queue is pretty neat, if you want to reblog something later, but don't have a specific time in mind, you can queue it!
you can change how many things in your queue are posted a day and what times of day they get posted on your queued post page.
Tumblr media
and thats everything i can think of.
apologies if i forgot anything. EDIT: Additional Information
Asks
i totally should've covered these when i first made the post, sorry.
asks are pretty cool. if asks are turned on people can send little messages to your inbox.
ask options are found in your blog settings. you can choose to allow anonymous asks, asks with media, or just turn off asks all together.
Tumblr media
Destiel News
important news is often shared in the form of a meme from the scene in supernatural where castiel confess his love for dean, with the top image being castiel with the caption "i love you" and the bottom image being dean with whatever recent news the user is sharing as the caption.
Tumblr media
here's the blank for your news announcing purposes
