A while ago, I posted a petition, to stop the closing of a much loved museum, Syndeys Powerhouse museum, a place that's been under threat for years.

I need your help with this once again, (especially if you are an Aussie)

After years of threatening to close down and demolish our only science, tech and applied arts museum, and one attempt to turn it into an events center, they've come back with another plan, which basically amounts to "we're going to clear out the museum and demolish most of the structures inside. We definitely have a plan to put some cool stuff back, but we can't tell you it, but it's definitely gonna be great. Don't mind that a bunch of purpose built structures to display delicate objects are set to be demolished."

(That's an F1 Apollo rocket engine, very rare outside the USA. Almost 60 years old, now delicate, but it's going.)

"We've garunteed 3 of the most iconic items (not their accompanying collections) will come back. Pay no mind that we haven't allowed for where they're gonna go, or that the one object we can't move (rare, 250 year old working Boulton and Watts steam engine) is set to end up inside a corridor)

"Oh, also, you know that museum storage hall, so close by and practical, with a loading dock and workshops, that's also sitting on prime real estate? We're building a second loading dock and workshops in the main museum! Right where the all classrooms where!"

It's supposedly a heritage restoration, but in truth, it's based of a skewed heritage report which has been heavily criticised as I'll informed, and rigged to allow the place's removal.

Almost every detail goes against the spirit of the original musuem. The orginal museum was a fun, post modern place with a sciencey vibe,

Which transitioned fluidly into historic halls, with historic products and technology to match

The Musuem has an upper entrance designed to be welcoming, full of natural light, and evoke the feel of an old grand train station. This is to be bricked up.

Rather than restore the older galleries, theyre taking several of them out reducing display space from about 15,000m²ish to about 6000m² ish.

The historic halls included restored generator room filler with steam engines. This really put the museum on the map.

Rook Info Compilation part 21: Art and More

Rook seems to be an artist: he gives Leona a portrait he made of Leona himself for his birthday. In his third birthday vignette he explains that art is his best subject, and particularly realism.

In the second Tsumsted event Rook has a voice line about his Tsum drawing on the floor of Pomefiore’s lounge.

Rook says he would like his own art museum, as he is looking for a place that he can fill with his favorite things. Kalim says he did not have enough time to arrange for something similar for Rook's birthday, and the cost surpassed the limit on student gifts.

Rook seems to sincerely enjoy the science club, insisting on participating in club activities even during Halloween Week, despite Trey’s assurance that it wouldn’t hurt to skip.

Rook says he has volunteered at a science museum, showing visitors the attraction of science.

Rook says that he tends to “grow so hyper-focused when eyeing a target that (he becomes) deaf to the sound of the world around (him)”, and this seems to applying to areas outside of hunting, such as when he is reciting poetry or discussing Leona.

Rook seems to have some degree of first-aid training, capable of instructing the prefect in how to save Grim from choking on an object that gets lodged in his throat and checking Deuce’s twisted ankle during Glorious Masquerade.

Rook’s favorite food is liver pâté.

Rook seems particularly perceptive when it comes to Vil (he is able to guess the exact reason why Vil is delayed in selecting an outfit for an event), and according to Trey he is extra observant in general, with “an absurdly good memory for the most random things.”

Rook’s hobby is photography. He gifts Silver with a polaroid camera for his birthday and wins first place in a photography competition at Port Fest.

so i purchased some interesting dolls

I was thrifting with my wife when i saw these girlies, the outfits caught my eye immediately so i bought them. Let me tell you how actually interesting this find is.

These two are wearing a miniature version of the 2015 Qantas airlines uniform.

now this isn't that weird right? there have been lots of air hostess barbies over the years, except these were commissioned by Qantas. In 2015 to celebrate the 95th anniversary of the company's founding, Qantas hired designer Martin Grant to create a miniature version of the company's latest uniform to be displayed in the Qantas lounge and later the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences in Sydney to go along with a collection donated posthumously by John Willmott–Potts here’s an article with more info on that.

however Qantas also commissioned a small Adelaide based doll clothing artist who goes by Margellen to create 5 other replica dolls for their social media campaign.

According to Margellen’s blog the dolls were flown out all over the world to be photographed for Qantas’ social media. However the one in-front of the Sydney opera house is the only one i can find.

now the ladies i ended up with:

this one seems to be a finished doll, her dress is nicely lined so shes probably an extra or a doll that was donated after the media campaign ended right?

this is the other doll she was with, while they look similar there are actually a lot of differences.

her belt is a separate plastic accessory and not a sewn on ribbon.

the edges are raw and unfinished!!!

the black closure is glued on velcro instead of sewn on snaps

so i believe these girlies are prototypes of Margellen’s work, i have no idea how they ended up in a thrift store in Sydney but I’m very glad to have them in my life. The finished piece is so well made it feels better than some human clothes I’ve had.

Margellen’s socials haven’t been active in a few years so i hope she is doing well, if this post somehow makes it back to her i would love to hear more about her lovely creations. I haven’t given my girls a proper clean yet as i wanted to document them as they looked when i first got them, my plan now is to clean and display them together and find them some 2015 barbie style black pumps to match the original vision.

This is an appealing publication, presented in actrattive format. It contains much helpful and enlightening information and the positive aspects of the book are reinforced by the touching enthusiasm of the author, an assistant professor in the Costume Research Section of the Institute of History, part of the Academy of Social Sciences of China.  With the possible exception of porcelain, the applied arts of China from the late Imperial period to the present day are poorly researched by both Western and Chinese scholars. This book, emanating from a learned Chinese institution, is certainly timely,especially as the small domestic embroideries under discussion are found in many museum collections and private homes throughout the British Isles and North America. A historical introduction forms the first section of the book. It attemps to place the embroideries shown in colour plates in the second section in a comprehensible context.

Wedding dress worn by Janet McDonald

This two piece dress dates from around 1887 and was worn as a wedding dress by an Australian Indigenous women identified as "Mrs Janet McDonald" and donated as a gift to the Museum by her granddaughter, a Mrs James from Cremorne, Sydney, in 1986.

Even today, the government administers marriage laws in Australia and assumes control over peoples eligibility to marry. In the 1900s some states enacted laws regulating who Indigenous Australians could or could not marry.

The dress reflects the way missionaries, reserve managers and people charged with the welfare of Aboriginal people perceived the white wedding as a means towards assimilation.

It was frequently the case that Aboriginal staff would be given hand-me-downs for special occasions - such as weddings.

This gown is made of intense purple silk and has undergone quite significant alterations - quite possibly as part of Mrs McDonald's adaptation of the garment for her own ceremony. The beautiful deep purple beaded bustle dress is obviously well worn and appears to have been later cut to salvage the fabric for another use.

Picture Tony bursting into Steve’s room/place of business to announce his finishing of grad school feeling what you are feeling now. How would they celebrate? Maybe Tony has been waiting to confess his feelings until he was done and has time now and he better use this moments and it’s energy before he wimps out!!!

ahh i’m so sorry it’s taken me a while to respond, but thank you so much!!

now, i’ve given this a lot of thought and i wanted to give it a bit of a canon spin. imagine a post-avengers timeline where everything is domestic and beautiful and we never had to worry about ultron or thanos or magic rocks or any of that. imagine.

Steve’s in his studio, putting the finishing touches on a painting he’s been working on for the last two weeks when Tony comes in quietly. He’s holding his hands behind his back, shuffling his feet as if he’s nervous about something. He kind of looks the way he does whenever he’s got something for the team, like surprise gear upgrades or invitations to events. So Steve puts his paintbrush down, wipes off the stray paint from his hands the best he can, and stands up to greet his friend.

“Hey Tony. Whatcha got there?”

Tony smiles and presents Steve with a dark purple envelope. The paper is of good quality, and when he opens it, the contents inside are printed on thick card stock.

It’s an invitation to New York University’s commencement ceremony in May.

“Oh, this is nice! Are you speaking at their graduation this year?” Steve asks.

“Not quite.” Tony chews on his lip a bit before he continues. “I’ll actually be one of the graduates. And I was hoping you’d like to come and watch me cross that stage.”

Oh. Steve had no idea that Tony had been spending his time on another degree. He was busy a lot, true, but he always just assumed that he was working on projects for SI when he wasn’t doing anything Avengers-related. Steve can’t imagine how Tony managed to juggle what basically amounts to two full time jobs and a full time degree. But they don’t call Tony Stark a genius for nothing, and if anyone was going to pull off something like this, it would be Tony.

“Oh wow! Tony, that’s amazing. Congratulations! Of course I’ll be there to cheer you on. We all will.”

“Ah, well, I’d be glad to see the rest of the team there too, obviously.” Tony’s eyes crinkle as he smiles at Steve, and a slight flush crosses his cheeks as he sheepishly rubs at the back of his neck. “But see, the one person I really want to be there is you. Because you’re kinda the one who inspired me to apply for this program.”

“Me?”

“Yeah, you. I didn’t get another doctorate. I went for a master’s this time. A dual one in art and science, and it’s all because of you,” Tony explains. “You see, when we became friends, like, really became friends, I got to see the side of you beyond the master tactician. Your passion for art is incredible, Steve. Not just the way you talk about it, but the way you always try to refine your craft whenever you have the time.” He gestures around the room. “I mean, look at everything you’ve created in the last few years alone.”

Now it’s Steve’s turn to blush. To this day, he still finds it hard to accept any compliments on his art.

“These are just doodles and experiments, Tony. They’re nothing like the art you see in museums.”

“That’s not true at all, and one day I’ll finally get you to believe me.”

Steve kind of wants to kiss Tony right now, but he brushes the urge away.

“So a dual master’s in art and science?” he asks instead.

“That’s right. It’s the art conservation program at NYU. The perfect blend of art and science. I studied art history and also the science behind the preservation of art. I never thought about how much technical work goes into art conservation and it’s been a blast getting to learn all of this. They let me fast track the program and get my degree within two years instead of four. And I ended up choosing time-based media as my specialty since it involves a lot more technology than more traditional art like paintings and photography, because, well, you know me.”

Before Steve could cut in and ask some more questions, Tony steps forward to take his hand and keeps talking.

“But yeah, that’s what I’ve been doing in my down time for the last couple of years and I’m hoping that one day, if you’d like, we could work together to make sure every single piece of art you create stands the test of time. Because you are so talented, Steve, and your legacy deserves to be more than just Captain America.”

Steve really wants to kiss Tony now.

So he does.

Tony responds immediately, his lips moving in tandem with Steve’s like they’ve been doing this for years instead of seconds. He doesn’t know how long they stand there in each other’s arms, but when they finally pull back for air, the invitation lays on the floor in a crumpled heap, having fallen at some point when Steve let it go in favour of grabbing Tony by his hips.

He picks it back up and smooths it against his chest the best he can, and grins at Tony.

“I’d be honoured to go to your graduation ceremony, sweetheart. I’ll be there cheering louder than anyone else. And afterwards, I’m taking you to dinner to celebrate, then we’re coming home to celebrate some more.”

He leans down to capture Tony’s lips again.

All the while, he thinks about all the paintings he’s done of Tony, hidden away behind other canvases. He wonders what Tony would think when Steve finally shows them to him, if they could match Tony’s grand gesture that was two years in the making. Because Tony may believe that his art is worth conserving, but as far as Steve’s concerned, it’s Tony—his smiles, his genius…his everything—whose beauty should be preserved for the world to see.

Unlike in most other families, the youngest wasn't spoiled in the Hunter household. Instead Adelaide had to live up to the achievements set by her brothers and while she doesn't blame her brothers simply for being who they were, her parents certainly made things tougher on her by constantly comparing the young girl to her siblings and their achievements and goals.

Figured out during her early childhood that she loved drawing and going to art museums. Found drawing, painting or sketching almost all the time, especially when things got tough.

Art wasn't seen as something worthy of praise in her family, instead being compared to her brothers who all showed talents in science or sports or other fields their parents found noteworthy

Throughout high school she focused more on her art, joining the art club with a teacher that encouraged her to seek out art programs at different colleges in order to further her talent. Eventually she did apply to plenty and was accepted into the Yale School of Art with connection to the Institute for Preservation of Cultural Heritage

Upon graduating Adelaide moved to New York, applying at the MET where she began work in the restoration department. After all her need to show her art as something wonderful, the family issues still in mind, she felt happy and at home but equally invisible. Just like before.

Over time she came to use her breaks and spare time as a chance to sketch and paint things within the museum either during the less busy hours or simply after work. It was there that she met Suresh. While at first simply talking about art eventually she was approached with something else entirely; a chance to make her art matter.

A need to no longer be invisible eventually led to her working as an affiliate of the Syndicate; a forger specialized in art. For the past year she's been forging some of the better paintings of the past centuries; both big and small.

It has given her the feeling that she matters, in some way and thus has no wish to stop her work.

The one she gets along with Older brother. The one she truly connected with despite everything. Thinks she simply works at the MET and had no idea his sister has drifted off into the shadier side of things, nor would they know why. Still, they get along. The only family Adelaide truly feels close to. The ones she had to compete with Other older brothers. She loves them, cause they are family but has spent the better part of her life feeling lesser than and thus struggles a lot more with them. Still, she tries to keep in contact. The muse, the one who walks the path Someone who inspires her to keep going no matter what. Could be a friend or really any type of connection. Perhaps even someone that knows of her work on the shadier side of life.
