10 years of Rainbow Direction!
Exactly 10 years ago a girl named Danny printed out this rainbow poster and took it to the first concert of One Direction's Where We Are tour:
Tumblr media
Anniversaries are always a bit arbitrary, and Rainbow Direction's was always a hard one to pin down.
This blog is just a day or two short of celebrating 11 years and without it Rainbow Direction would have never existed, because the people who were at the start of it would never have met, but its purpose and setup were entirely different and RD was still far from being developed.
The suggestions that eventually took form in "Project Rainbow Direction" were first submitted to the blog in late 2013. The first brainstorm between Kat, Li and Ellis about it, and further strategy talks with Ed and Molly took place in the early months of 2014. The project was announced in February. Haven and Red submitted their winning poster designs in March. Amy developed a logo and opened a merch store for us in early April.
While we've often referred to that midnight brainstorm on a cold January day as the origin of rainbow direction, that was only its conception. We don't even have a record of which date it was. We could also have chosen any of the more pin-downable dates: announcing the project, announcing the poster contest winners, opening the store. But really, all that Rainbow Direction was at those moments, was an idea, a plan, the hope that we had that it was within our, the fandom's power, to change something for the better for the LGBTQIA+ fans in it.
For months all of us, and especially Li, had worked tirelessly to encourage people to sign up and commit to bringing a rainbow poster to a show.
And then the big moment was there. First day of tour. The moment of truth. Would the people we'd encouraged actually have the courage to take a rainbow to a show, and stick it up in the air? Would it matter to people? Would it actually change something?
10 years on, we know that it did. So much more than we could ever have imagined.
But that was was anything but self-evident at the time. We had no idea. We nervously monitored the wwa tag and the blogs of those who had signed up, and then, after a few days, finally this report appeared. Danny from Bogota shared the first Rainbow Direction fan report.
I think if you'd ask any of us who were here at the time, they'd remember fondly how knowing that someone had actually done it, something happened in the real world, and if one person had done it, more would, how that sparked a fire in our hearts. A ball of warm feelings, not quite the same feeling as before. Before, there had been buzz and excitement and drive, but this, this felt different. Hope. A sense of the personal strength, and collective power, that could come from this if we could make it grow. It took a lot of hard work from a lot of people who committed themselves tirelessly to the campaign, but grow it did.
Thanks to Danny. Thanks to all of you who at some point or other, crafted something rainbow at home, took a rainbow to a show, put a rainbow on your blog, showed that you believed in your own power to change something, and showed the LGBTQI+ people in the fandom that they mattered, and that you cared.
It has been quite the roller coaster ride. As the coordinating group, we've had many ups and downs, and by now, for most of us, our attention has been drawn away from the fandom by our real lives and new pursuits. But regularly, when one of us checks in and sees the rainbows at one of the boys' shows, we share, revel, and sit amazed at how this thing, that once took so much effort on our part to get one, two, three people per show signed up, has grown into a regular staple, with people spontaneously taking it upon themselves to organize for entire venues to light up in a coordinated rainbow pattern, to design new posters and rainbow outfits, or to hand out hundreds of mini rainbow flags in the audience. This community has taken it up as its collective responsibility - let's get those rainbows out. How beautiful is that?! You are all so so amazing.
Thank you, you beautiful people, for becoming a part of this, for making it your own, for making it better, for carrying it forward, into the future.
So long!

You think the Zone has its version of Comic Con?
Like? Think about it. You have literally all of time to work on it, your Magnum Opus, your life's work. That DREAM comic. All the supplies you could ever wish for. Endless paper. Endless ink. You can practice and practice for CENTURIES until it's JUST right.
Wouldn't you want to share it?
There are definitely Ghosts who have Obsessions that make them collect.
And two people meeting would lead to a group. Lead to a bigger group. Lead to a large group. A gathering. A crowd even. Eventually you need a Lair to meet IN. It becomes An Event.
People hear about it.
Want to bring other art mediums. Food stalls. Report on it. It grows. Shoot offs start happening. Niche meet ups.
But like?
Unlike comic con? It's all FREE. Sure, you might have fork over the ecto to make your copy. And yeah, weaker ghosts can only do that so many times. Will have to prioritize. But? They can come back after leaving for a nap. Ask a buddy to come with. There ARE work arounds.
Just? Imagine the unbelievable HIPE? Danny would feel? But be unable to TELL anyone about? Zone Con happens several times a year! Cause so many people wanna come. The Zone being infinite, after all.
Problem 1? They're using THEIR standard of a "year". Which is actual 5 earth years. So it's only happens every year and a half for him. And Problem 2? He can't even TALK about how excited he is about Z Con with anyone (outside his friends and family) because they haven't heard of it and might Ask Questions.
It's ALSO held in a part of the Zone that's like? Three days of flying away from the portal. And no amount of begging is gonna get any of his loved ones to camp in the Speeder for around six-ish days just to go to a Con.
So you can imagine his DELIGHT. His utter JOY and *Target Spotted* "!!!" Noise, when? In the crowd? He spots A HUMAN! Hi fellow human!!! Omg, wanna be Con Besties? *doesn't even wait for an answer*
So now? This sad, blonde, deeply lost and kinda alarmed, trench coat dude? Is Danny's new Z Con Going Bestie! You got a map yet, bestie? No? That's cool, he has one. By the way, he has human food in the Speeder if you nee-
YES!
Cause, see, here's the THING. John? Lost to the Realms Infinte. Or Infinte Realms. Translation was iffy... and on fire... like the rest of the building. It was him or the kids those psychos had kidnapped, for what fucked "ritual" the voices in their heads, that THEY thought were demons but frankly he's pretty sure was just feedback from-
Look, doesn't matter, he had to choose. He always knew someday he'd have too. That even twisting Luck and talking fast wouldn't quite be enough. And he had to decide, in that moment, which outcome mattered more to him. They get out safe, or he does.
Wasn't much of a question, was it?
So, there he is. Staring down oblivion and all those debts unpaid. 'Bout to see who's gonna come for him this time, and take what left of wretched soul. When? He bleeds on the FUCKIN two-bit crap circle they squiggled in God only knows what. Remembers that "oh YEAH, set dressings!" Sometimes when you focus too hard on insuring a Good Outcome?
You weird weird as shit byproducts happening on the side to balance it all out.
Or BAD ones.
He wakes up someone fucking green and crowded. For the life of him can't tell you which one it is. And THAT was of course, bout two days ago.
Biggest and most immediate problem? He... does NOT recognize what flavor of magical fuckery this is. Doesn't seem Fae. And doesn't smell like Hell. There are... there are honest to God BOOTH BABES hanging around. Hunks too. The view is LOVELY.
And nerdy.
Very, very nerdy.
But he isn't THAT out of touch. So he should recognize SOMETHING. Or at least the languages. But nope! It's like aliens and magic had a nerd baby and dipped it in GREEN. And the worst thing? Is there is food everywhere, but it all glows and John's not stupid enough to eat it.
Then? Sweet merciful fuck. Salvation! Some teeny bopper Barely No Longer Teen fresh faced INFANT of a Hero kid. With a SHIP. Who has FOOD and a clear idea of where they are. Hello~ John's new BEST FRIEND. Yes. Absolutely. Con Buddies, whatever.
Just feed me, kid.
Only? Once he inhales like 5 "Fenton rations"? He only gets half way through introducing himself before getting interrupted. Kid hears "magic" and "occult Detective" and just? Goes "oh! So you wanna check out the magic Ally with me? Sam wanted me to pick up some witchy stuff!"
..............how magic?
(In Which? Constantine becomes Danny's interdimensional Con buddy)

Mistaken Identities (dp x dc)
Danny had been doing his thing, looking around, making sure he didn't alter anything in the past, minding his own business. Officially, this was supposed to be a trip to gather more blood blossom samples for Team Phantom to study, but he had ended up being a little sidetracked. Apparently though, puritan times made for beautiful forests, sue him if he was enjoying a moment of peace in his otherwise crazy life. So here he was, relaxing for the first time in way too long when this guy just barged into the clearing. Danny straightened up with a yelp which had the guy stopping in his tracks before he turned to look at Danny.
"Be not afraid, child. I mean you no harm," the man said.
Danny squinted as he looked up at the half-shadowed face of the man that seemed vaguely familiar.
"Boy?"
"Uh-" Danny managed as he realized he was supposed to answer. "Oh yeah, no problem, man."
The man tilted his head which directed Danny's attention to his weird buckle-hat. Sobering up as he recognized the clothes from his previous jaunt in the past where Sam had almost gotten burnt at the stake, he mentally congratulated himself for turning back into a human before his nap. He really didn't want to end up trapped in blood blossoms by witch-finders again.
"Are you lost?" The man said, as he edged closer. "Do you require aid?"
The halfa jumped to his feet. "Nope!" Danny said before letting out a nervous laugh. "No aid, I'm all good. Thanks though."
The man opened his mouth to say something before another voice, higher pitched stopped him. "You are back!" A woman wearing a simple dress, with a few birds fluttering around her like a Disney princess approached them.
"Annie," answered the man.
"Come," she said before leading him away with only a glance towards the teenager. The man let himself be dragged away, but not before a last few words. "If you are ever in need of assistance, please do not hesitate."
Danny waved his hand. "Yep. For sure, dude. Thanks!"
Then before the man had turned away completely, the woman grabbed his hat playfully which revealed his face completely to the weak moonlight, and coincidentally to Danny's view. The couple disappeared between the thick foliage as Danny sat, struck dumb with what he had just witnessed.
"Oh my god," he whispered to himself. "That was Bruce fucking Wayne."
Danny had seen enough rag magazines and newspapers with his face printed on the cover to recognize the billionaire for sure. What the hell was he doing in Puritan times? Then, it hit Danny like a brick. Natural portals. They weren't common, or stable and they'd been known to spirit away people randomly. Clearly, they also had some pretty severe side-effects including amnesia considering the old-timey speech pattern Mr. Wayne was using.
There was only one thing for it, Danny clearly had to bring Mr. Wayne back to the present. Not only because it was the right thing to do, but also because a missing billionaire was bound to attract a good amount of attention and if anyone connected this to the ghost zone... Well if the GIW was bad now, Danny didn't want to know what other kind of unsavoury people would pop up if ghosts were better-known. Just imagining the Justice League getting involved was giving Danny the shivers. No, the best thing to do was get Mr. Wayne back to his time and hope he wouldn't remember much of what had happened and wouldn't dig into it further.
Just as he was nodding to himself, he heard a scream coming from not too far away. He transformed before flying towards the noise, only to find the woman he'd seen before with Mr. Wayne being captured by a bunch of men wearing the same kinds of hat.
"She's a witch! Burn her!" He heard someone yell. "Hang her dead!" Someone else said.
This was giving Danny some major flashback to Sam's very own witch burning and without wasting a second, he phased the woman right out of their grips and flew them away from the angry mob.
As soon as he landed and let go of the woman, she turned to him and gripped his arm instead. "You have to help him!"
"Help who?" Danny asked, wincing.
"Mordecai!" she said, her grip tight.
"Is that the man who was with you earlier?" the teenager asked.
The woman nodded before pointing southeast. "He is in the caves, fighting the dragon!"
Danny didn't waste anytime before flying in the direction she had pointed to. Going intangible helped with speed, and he phased through the ground, going straight for the aforementioned cave. He just phased through when he caught sight of Mr. Wayne. As he got closer, he could feel some sort of energy radiating from the man. Just then, the energy started building up and Mr. Wayne started to go transparent. Panicking, Danny did the first thing he could think of and absorbed the mounting energy to himself. It felt like a shot of adrenaline except way, way stronger and for a moment everything blanked out, before the world came into focus again. When he looked around, he couldn't find a trace of Mr. Wayne, but from the energy left over he could tell exactly when he had landed. The Golden Age of Piracy.
"Goddamit!" Danny yelled as he once again felt Bruce Wayne slip through his grasp as he stole away the potent energy from the billionaire's body before it could follow wherever he was going next. First it had been pirates, then the Wild West and lastly it was 20th century Gotham, clearly the natural portal had been all kinds of fucked up for Mr. Wayne to have been dragged from time period to time period. It was a miracle he was even still alive, the poor man! Danny let out a harsh sigh as he parsed out through the information the energy had left him with. This time he'd gotten the information for the two next time-jumps, which meant, Danny could get ahead of this for once and finally catch Mr. Wayne before he could jump again.
With a steadying intake of breath, Danny took out the Infiniv-map and set his destination before he let himself follow through. As he got through he could hear a bunch of different voices, all talking over each other.
"-distortions mean what I think it-"
"-not fair!"
"-time is breaking-"
"-only leave his body once he's dead."
Danny paid no mind as he locked eyes on Mr. Wayne who was lying in Wonder Woman's arms, in a black bodysuit, looking worse for the wear. The same energy as before was emanating from him, though this time it was even stronger. Danny approached carefully, invisible before he put a hand onto Mr. Wayne's chest and concentrated on drawing all the energy into himself. It wasn't like the other times, the flow was faster and he was having trouble staying focused as more and more flew into him. His brows scrunched in concentration, and unbeknownst to him, the invisibility dropped.
All the heroes in the room turned to look at the suddenly appearing white-haired teen who had a hand on Batman's chest. As they stared in confusion, the teen started to glow. It grew brighter and brighter before everyone had to shield their eyes as there was a pulse of bright light that died down almost immediately after. Wonder Woman had to blink the spots out of her vision as she felt the weight in her arms start to shift and let out a groan. "Bruce!"
She set him down and helped him put his head between his knees, as she gently stroked his back. Superman settled on his other side while Red Robin just sat in front of him, still half-believing Bruce was really back.
"What happened?" Bruce mumbled. "The omega radiation, I thought-"
"I'd like to know that too," Green Lantern said before he turned towards the glowy kid who was still blinking his eyes as if to chase away afterimages.
"His energy signature is the same as Darkseid," Raven said, her own eyes having not left the teenager since he had appeared.
"You don't mean..." started Superman as all the heroes turned to look at the kid slowly. The latter finally looked up as if sensing he was the focus of many eyes and cringed as he met the combined stares of the Justice League.
"Yes," Raven answered. "This is Darkseid's son."

Damian
“Damian, don’t you want to see your surprise? I think you’ll love it.” He grinned maliciously as he gestured for someone to step forward.
Damian’s breath was caught as one of the ninjas from grandfather’s guard stepped forward and crouched into a fighting stance. Everything about them was entirely too familiar. Grandfather was saying something but the ringing in his ears was making it hard to understand.
“— happened? We found him and now he’s back home. Don’t you want to come back and see him Damian?” Grandfather had walked up to the figure as he was talking. Reaching a hand up, he pulled the half mask down to reveal their face. “He’s excited to see you.”
His chest was aching now as he listened to his family behind him taking in the scene. Even as he shifted into his own battle stance it felt like his face and hands had been dipped in static. He was sure he wasn’t getting oxygen adequately but still he couldn’t take his eyes off what could have been a mirror image of himself if he’d never left the league. From the hair and the outfit, to the burning green eyes glaring back. He knew however, he wasn’t looking at a clone. He was looking at his worst nightmare, something that the pits had brought to life.
He felt a hand drop down on his shoulder and he flinched. A quick glance at the blue stripes give the culprit up as Richard but the familiar comfort he usually got from his adopted brother never came. He clenched his jaw to steady himself. There was no way grandfather had done what he was thinking. This has to be a clone or something else being used to entice him back to the league.
“Grandfather, I fail to see what use another clone could be. I would think that after the first attempt of using clones failed you would try a different method.” He made sure to sound as bored as possible, knowing how his grandfather played with emotions. His grandfather seemed to be amused if anything, a cruel smirk settling across his face.
“I would not bring you a mere clone Damian. Is it the green eyes throwing you off? It’s merely a side effect of the pits as you well know.” Here he shot a pointed look towards Redhood before glancing back. “Don’t you recognize your own twin?”
The ringing was back.
“He simply needed a quick dip in the pits before he was willing to listen. Here lately the aggression has been quite handy.” Grandfather stepped back at the same time he let go of the figures shoulder. “Cosmas, why don’t you go ahead and show your brother what he’s missing out on?”
Damian’s eyes quickly snapped back to the boy as he started moving. Pulling out a blade that looked shockingly similar to his brother’s—his real, dead, twin brother’s—sword. With the way his eyes were glowing, Damian couldn’t tell any emotions coming from him. He quickly unsheathed his matching sword as he watched the figure—supposedly his brother— smirk.
Danny POV
Danny was shocked.
Surprised.
Absolutely flabbergasted.
Never had he imagined this scenario for himself, and he’s been through some pretty wild shit!
Okay, so to start out his eyes are glowing green due to being literally dunked in rancid ectoplasm like ten time. Which is just ew. He was also forced to change into an old league uniform, given his old sword, and then pretty much pushed out in front of the bats of Gotham within a day of him being taken.
…WAS GRANDFATHER CRAZY??
Obviously grandfather didn’t know about Phantom or he’d be in a lot deeper shit. To be completely honest, he just wanted to go along with this to see Damian again but now he’s supposed to fight the bats? That’s so not happening, Danny enjoyed his half-life. Sure it was overrun by beings trying to kill him but when was that any different than what it was in the league.
Obviously, grandfather just wanted him to die again—
“—recognize your own twin?” Danny’s ears twitched as he heard that, snapping his gaze to the figure squaring up across from him. That was Damian? He looked so…calm. The Damian that Danny was used to had an eternal stick up his ass that made his face look like he was scowling 24/7. Maybe the mask helped with that? Huh. Interesting.
“Cosmas” Ancients he hated that name. “Why don’t you go ahead and show your brother what he’s missing out on?” He felt grandfather taking a few steps back.
Danny internally scoffed as he went to take out his sword—HIS SWORD!!—that had recently been given to him.
‘Like I’ll ever help you out you senile fruitloop’ Danny smirked as he thought it ‘You just made yourself useless.’

So here is the THING...
People often wonder why Dan is my favorite character and the “built-in-character” I often create for him. Most of these questions came after one of my favorite mini-story-panel of Phantom grieving his sister’s grave. I’m refering to this one:
Tumblr media
Comments like “why Phantom SHOULD be grieving his sister if he was the one who killed them in the first place?” Well, for this essay, I hope I can change your perception and mind of what truly happen but SPOILER: HE WASN’T THE ONE WHO KILLED THEM. What a shocker. Why I came up with that conclusion, you ask? Let’s dive in with some information given to us in the show and how MADDENING stories that involve time-traveling are.
For starters, I HATE TIME-TRAVEL. I feel like tiime travel is like a simple excuse to misdirect the reader into thinking “Oh, that happened so I shouldn’t think much from that.” TUE is backed up from that which is infuriating to me and how the episode developed itself doesn’t make too much sense. I’m going to leave a quote mention on the DP wikia of exaclty what im talking about:
Tumblr media
THIS right here is one of the MOST MEGA FLAW of the show itself. Yes. We know the events that led to Dark Danny was Danny cheating on the C.A.T. and then the NB explosion happen. But DAN DIDN’T CAUSE THE EXPLOSION! Dan didn’t trap his family just to blew up. Dan was out of the equation!
Erase from your minds the fact that Dan was involved on Danny’s timeline for a second and rewind things a bit. It is impossible for Dan to caused that because DAN DID NOT EXIST YET. The events were just about to unfold. For us to follow Dan’s timeline, Danny had NEVER talked to VLAD abt it. He NEVER had any sort of GUIDANCE to prove that he cheating on the C.A.T. was the thing that caused all of it. As the quoted statement of the DP wikia says: maybe what transpire in the Nasty Burger was a COMPLETELY different event that let to one of the boilers to blow. What if- this particular event- maybe the observants send someone else to put a stop to Danny (this also bringing the fact why Clockwork-in a way-is mad at them and you can feel this hatred towards them. And of course as stated by himself, the observants can only see one outcome while Clockwork can see variables.) Now, imagine the loss Danny may have felt after that unprecedented explosion. He had nowhere to go... and so the rest of Dan’s story begins. The only reason why Dan traveled back in time was because he knew this “Danny” from this alternate timeline had guidance from Clockwork. He new that if he cheated, a catastrophy would occur and he would do ANYTHING to prevent it... that was the GUIDANCE Dan NEVER HAD. HE HAD TO WITNESS HIS LOVED ONES DIE.
DAN NEVER HAD THAT “SECOND CHANCE” CLOCKWORK GAVE TO DANNY. OF COURSE DAN WILL BE BLOODY MAD ABT IT. -“I LOST MY FAMILY SO YOU MUST SUFFER THE SAME WAY”
But the overall ending of the episode feels stupid. Like after Danny speaking to Vlad and Clockwork and HE HIMSELF witnessing what was the cause for his family to die... Even if Dan succeded (which may I remind you Dan DID win but Clockwork had to interviene/cheat)
WHY WOULD DANNY GO BACK TO VLAD, GET RID OF HIS HUMANITY... AND BOOM! Have yourself another Dan.
The reasonable explanation to this is, again the OUTCOME.
What if on this case, if everyhing happened the way it was Danny now wanted his ghost to be removed because of the potential risks Phantom had.
He may have became Dark Danny but maybe a different one. One different from the one we all know.
This is my ranting of putting myself on Dan’s shoes for a moment. I hate time traveling episodes just so that they can just “go with it and make a mess out of the story but hey... it’s a cartoon, kids are not going to question anything”. You probably say that I’m overthinking this whole situation but I was once a writer and it is too frustating to me this type of subjects are just not fully solved.
Now with all this, Can you look at the panels and its meaning the same way now? Can you look at Dan the same way?

Ok but like picture this:
CW is the personification of time, hes a time god, so while he can stop time, speed up, slow down, he isnt always consciously aware of the speed of time. BUT, lets think of time as a part of him. So, when he likes people, wants them to succeed, even peripherally, time seems to be in their favor.
People often say oh time flies when you’re having fun and drags when you’re not. What if this were actually true. CW isnt always focusing on the people he likes, but time is him so it also favors these people. They will always just make it to class right before the bell or save someone just in time, an attack will be a second too slow.
For danny, however, CW is basically a grandfather. CW loves danny. So time is like an eager puppy that wants to please him. If hes having fun with his friends and thinks, i wish it could always be like this, time fucking dilates for him, it really does go slower. When hes bored time speeds up just a little bit.
That was a long ass lead up to my fic idea but anywayss. Imagine danny gets old, time passes, but not really for him. Its probably a mix of being a ghost and CW being his grandfather, but hes stopped aging at some point. He loses his sense of time. When its always stopping and starting and speeding along and slowing down, it tends to lose some of its meaning. So he lives and lives until one day he realizes the world has completely changed around him. He’s become something of a homebody, staying in his home for months at a time, imaging the stars, recording star maps, generally enjoying his life.
Theres a knock at the door. More of a thud, really, and when he goes to check it out, he finds a man- a man bat? -slumped against his door. He’s baffled. But the man- man bat? -is injured, so he brings him in.
He tries to take the armor off, before giving up it just phasing it off of the guy. Not all of it, he leaves the cowl over the top of the face and the underclothes stay put, he’s not disrespectful, thanks you very much. He does what he can to patch the guy up. Its much easier to do on someone else rather than himself. The man bat guy doesn’t seem to be badly injured, a broken ankle, a fractured wrist and bruised ribs, but what really seems to have taken him out is a bad concussion, he guesses, judging by the fat ugly knot on top of the dudes head.
It is no matter, he thinks, he will just have to stay here and recover. And so danny drifts off, to put some food aside for his unexpected guest and to get back to work.
He genuinely forgets about the guy until he hears a thump. Trying to sneak out, the man bat has fallen. Now, normally, theres no way in hell Batman would have fallen. But when he’s seeing in quadruple and his head pounds with every beat of his heart, he can probably forgive himself for this little mistake. Maybe.
Danny floats on up to him.
Wait
Y am i writing this all out lol. I was just gonna outline my idea and dip 😭.
Basically, he helps bats recover, but finds he really likes hanging out with him. So time comes into play and slows down, just for them. When bruce is finally healed and can reach out to someone, the world has changed again. Shit went down in gotham. The city has changed. He doesnt understand at first. Its not really wirher of their faults, but hes- he doesnt know how he feels, sad, mad, frustrated, at a loss. He feels it all, in great detail, and it weighs heavily on him. But well, hes made friends with danny in the years- years???!! - hes been with danny. He goes back. They make up and stay together til bruce succumbs to old age bc he isnt the same as danny. Nvr was and wasnt going to be but at least they could enjoy their time together. The end.

Halloween prompts no. 14
Danny gets thrown into the Blue Exorcist universe, saw how Rin was being treated and straight up kidnapped him when no one was looking and took him to another dimension/reality/whatever to keep him safe.
Rin, as you can imagine, doesn't take kindly to being kidnapped and tries to roast Phantom. The fact neither understands the others language did not help. Danny, taking a gamble, dropped his phantom form and raised his hands in surrender.
Rinse eyebrow twitched and he asked wtf he thought he was doing. Danny got an idea and raised a finger ask if asking one moment please before bringing out his phone and typing into Google Translate.
Things go better after that, Rins still kinda mad and demanded to be taken home but Danny refused, saying he wasn't going to send him back to a place that would treat him like that! The fight escalated until Danny confessed he died because people ignored the abuse and neglect from his home situation and he terrified Rin will face a similar fate. This finally took the wind out of Rins sails. Rin comforts Danny who may or may not be crying.
This is when the local heros show up because it turns out they landed in the dc universe. They realize they've pretty much melted part of the city they were in during thier fight and scram before anyone can get a good look at them. They're branded as mysterious villains almost immediately.
Danny and Rin take to stealing in order to survive and start teaching eachother thier language so they don't have to keep relying of the translation app. (Also they can't reliably recharge the phone) They're bonding and building up eachothers self esteem. Rin enjoys having someone who let's him protect them as a big brother should and Danny enjoys feeling safe and protected for once in his afterlife. They both start wearing masks and start stealing bigger marks as supervillians in order to survive.
The Justice League Dark is absolutely freaking out because why is a Gahena demon and some kind of Lazarus Pit child working together?? Demons from Gahena never come here cause they shouldn't even be able to and they had no idea Pit People even existed up until now. And why are they stealing such strange things? The bank robberies they understood but the baby food incident? (They stole a bunch of baby food to help the homeless and low income population) The lab thiefts? (Danny recognized the type of machine they were making was designed to be a portal when the press conference about it said nothing about portals. So he stole it and destroyed it cause it was sus.) The JLD knew they were missing something.
Batman himself eventually tracks them down and finds out
1. They are 14 and 15 year olds.
2. Both are traumatized
3. Black hair blue eyes
4. Both have supernatural abilities they can't fully control
5. Both are very sweet and are being more vigilante than villain
Bruce has already mentally signed the adoption papers.
Unfortunately, Danny has bad memories of another billionaire who kept trying to adopt him and is avoiding both him both as Batman and as Bruce Wayne. The boys run in to Harley Quinn and she figured out these kids needed help. She aids in thier language endeavors and if the only reason she knows Japanese as well as she does is from her binging anime for a few months during a quarantine caused by Scarecrow then thats her business.
Anyway, she gives them not-therapy since she can't ethically give them therapy therapy and in exchange they pay her with cash they stole. Neato. Rin eventually gets onto an ADHD medication that suits him and he's doing so much better. He uses a lot of the coping skills aunt harley taught him and its like hes a totally different person. Granted Rin has to take an ungodly high dose for it to work due to his demonic heritage but they make due. They already rob banks, whats a few pharmaceutical companies?
Ivy and Harley pseudo adopt Rin and Danny and sometimes the boys would just come over to Gotham to hang out or play with the pets. Rin loves cooking and has taken over the kitchen in his and dannys safe houses. He does most of the cooking and keeps the kitchen spotless. Danny does the laundry and dusting and they share most other chores. Rins used to having Yukio sleeping in the same room as him so sometimes he sneaks into Dannys room in the middle of the night to sleep on the floor.
Danny keeps waking up and moving him to the bed. Neither say anything about it and Rin assumes he slept walked into the bed and flees before Danny can be woken up and weirded out. Miscommunication! Yay!
Meanwhile the birdie brigade are on thier tails and watching/spying on them every chance they get. They're already making preparations in the manor for two more people.

DP & DC prompt 1:
Imagine danny meeting Martha and Thomas Wayne at one of Vlads Galla type things. Danny just gets dragged along to any Galla his parents are invited bc “You have to visit your uncle Vladie Danno”. So here he is, hanging out by the fruit bowl when this guy comes along and strikes up a conversation with him, and guess who it is…Alfred. So Danny gets talking to this guy bc it’s better than eating his weight at the snack table.
So their talking and then along comes a young Bruce Wayne after he to got bored of all the business talk (Bruce is like 3 years younger than he was when his parents got killed) and so he sees that Alfred has struck up a conversation with another fellow child (even if said child is older than him). So Bruce gets talking with them as well until the Galla is over. They say their goodbyes and think that this is the last time they see each other…surprise surprise it’s not!!!
Vlad actually hosts many parties every year so these three end up meeting a lot. Danny is introduced to the other Wayne’s and the Wayne’s are introduced to the Fentons. Danny actually becomes a close friend to Bruce and starts to see Alfred as a type of godfather/uncle. And Bruce’s and Danny’s parents become friends and have exchanged numbers.
After The Wayne’s are killed Danny doesn’t see Alfred and Bruce anymore. It’s when Bruce, now Batman, has a problem, a ghostly problem, at the manor that he remembers the Fentons. He thinks that Danny has probably forgotten about him and won’t remember him since it’s been so long, but when he calls the Fenton residence Danny picks up.
They then have this whole conversation about asking eachother how have they been and all that, eventually Bruce brings them back on track and asks what can be done about the ghosts and Danny goes “oh I can fix that for you, it’s a low level ghost so it won’t take long” and then says he’ll be there in a few days and then proceeds to hang up. Bruce is just standing there like ‘ok, guess we’ll be have our ghost problem fixed and an old family friend over’.
He tells Alfred and he is just happy that they will be reunited with someone from before Bruce becoming Batman and hopes the Danny can bring a more normal feel to the manor for as long as he is staying. He’s exited to introduce Danny to the bat kids bc he feels like he can hopefully become a part of the family as like an uncle of sorts that isn’t in the crime fighting profession (wishful thinking there Alfred).
When Danny arrives Bruce and Alfred were expecting someone in their like mid 30’s (I couldn’t find an exact age for Bruce when his parents are killed, just know he was between the ages 8-12) but when the open the door their is a guy who hardly looks like he is in his early 20’s. Danny’s half’s status didn’t make him immortal but it did slow his aging down. They eventually brush this off as him just having a baby face and thus making him look young. So Danny goes and says hello and all that and after a bit of reconnecting is alerted of the ghost with his ghost sense. He says he’ll go catch the ghost now and leaves. Not even 20 minutes later he is back and says he got all the ghosts. Alfred and Bruce are impressed but think nothing off it bc he was raised by ghost hunters.
Alfred then asks him to stay for dinner as he is about to leave and Danny accepts. He meets the bat kids and when Jason walks in he gets a sense that he is familiar. Danny doesn’t really act on it in the moment but he tells himself that he will get this kid (bc Danny called anyone younger than him kid) a nice cleansing bath to get rid of the rotten ectoplasm in him and replace it with clean and healthy ectoplasm.
That’s really it. Danny being a friend of the family and becoming the official “ non-hero related uncle”. Jason knows about his half’s status but doesn’t tell the rest of them. You can do whatever you want after the dinner. But yeah…that’s it.

You were the youngest of your siblings and it made Danny cling to you. She made sure to protect you, never leaving your side until she was sure you were safe. It had left you a little sheltered to say the least, not that she’d ever let anyone tell you that.
Recently she’d started bringing you to council meetings and when she met with ambassadors. The latest person to request her presence was none other than Yara Greyjoy. Her eyes were focused on the queen, a slight smirk edging onto the outskirts of her lips as she spoke.
You tried to listen to the words, but you couldn’t help but be distracted be her. you had been taught beauty was in dresses, silks, and jewels by your brother, but Yara was beautiful like a dragon. Her leather trousers framed her legs perfectly, her shoulders broad and strong, and her eyes looked like they held the knowledge of the world.
“And I imagine your offer is free of any marriage demands?” your sisters voice brought you back into reality.
Yara’s lips quirked into a smirk, “I never demand,” she started, her eyes lazily falling to you, “but I’m for anything really,” she said, drawing her eyes back to your sister but there was already a hot blush scolding your cheeks.
You were stood beside Danny, but you didn’t need to see her face to know she wore her own smirk. You tried to be calm, keep unnoticed for the rest of the discussion but after asking for independence you couldn’t help but retort after Tyrion spoke, “What if everyone starts demanding their independence?”
“She’s not demanding. She’s asking,” you said, your voice soft but the fact you spoke at all caught them both off guard. Danny turned to you, raising a single eyebrow. You glanced back towards the Ironborn siblings and back to your own, giving a single nod back. it was all you had to do for Danny to know your position and Tyrion to be reminded of his.
-
Later that evening you were heading towards the hall for dinner when you felt someone’s hand grab your arm. Your head wiped around, eyes wide, only to be met with a smirk. “I’m sorry princess. I did not mean to startle you,” Yara said, her smirk smalling into a soft smile as she looked down at your dress, “I like the fabric. I was never one for frills,”
“I wasn’t either. Till recently at least,”
She chuckled a little, “I’ve only heard snippets about you, but I can imagine your story must be quite interesting,” her eyes were so captivating that the world around you seemed to stop.
“Hardly,” you laughed softly, “Yours though I imagine must be fascinating. I admire a woman who can take charge,” you said but your eyebrows furrowed when she laughed suddenly before realising, “I did not mean- “you tried to object when you realised the double meaning of your phrase.
Yara just chuckled, leaning in to whisper in your ear, “Don’t worry princess. I know exactly what you mean,” she said before pulling away, smiling at the hot flush on your face, “Now I was wondering if I may have the honour of escorting you to dinner? After all I’d hate for you to get hurt on the way to the festivities,” she said, holding out her arm to you.
You smiled and took it, trying your best to avoid her eye and the playful glint in it, “For the record I’d be able to make the journey alone,” you said, not wanting to sound weak to your newfound crush.
A smile peaked onto her lips, “I don’t doubt that princess. Though its good to know you enjoy my company,” she teased.
You felt your skin burn but you managed to smile back at her this time, “Maybe so,”

Supernova - Chapter 1: The Aftershock
(AO3)
aftershock: noun 1) a small earthquake or tremor that follows a major earthquake.
2) the effect, result, or repercussion of an event; aftermath; consequence
3) what Danny finds himself having to deal with all of a sudden
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“I swear, you kids drink all those ‘Monstras’ or whatever they’re called and then come to class wonderin’ why you’re feeling like crap,” Tetslaff grumbled as she held the back of her hand up to Danny’s clammy forehead.
“Danny doesn’t drink energy drinks,” Sam said, indignant.
“Then what’s that stuff he’s always bringing to school to drink?” The question came from Star, who was one of the others in the class who’d come over to investigate the commotion. She jabbed a finger at one of the puddles of ectoplasm on the mat. “Because that is so not water.”
“Did she really just call them ‘Monstras?’” Tucker mumbled to himself.
Danny didn’t process any of this. For all he knew, he could be a million miles away from what was happening and he wouldn’t know the difference. Everything sounded far away and muddy, as if he were listening to it underwater. His limbs felt thick, like they didn’t even belong to him. Not to mention that he was still distracted by the remnants of that feeling that had overpowered him so suddenly. Whatever it had been.
Really, nothing he’d ever experienced had yanked on his core as hard as that had. He’d felt drains on his core before, but this had been entirely different. Could it even be considered a drain? He couldn’t tell if he’d lost any of his energy.
A shiver ran down his spine. To have such a fundamental part of his being end up so violently displaced, so utterly violated… Even now, it was still out of sync with his heart and making his stomach churn threateningly again.
And had he just been imagining hearing someone shouting?
“... take him to the nurse’s office?” Tetslaff was asking the small crowd. “ Not you , Foley! You’ll be lucky if I let you loose on your own durin’ class again before you graduate.”
“No,” Danny heard himself say. He was the one moving his mouth, right? Why did his tongue feel like sandpaper? “Don’t need the nurse. Just hot.”
And he was hot. Abnormally so. As in he hadn’t been this hot since before the accident. His core sputtered a few weak coils of his cold energy, but couldn’t manage much more than that so soon after such an experience.
“Sorry, Coach, I tried to tell him he needed to keep up with drinking his water today.” He was vaguely aware of his aluminum water bottle being pressed into his grasp by Sam. “He just wouldn’t listen to me.”
Normally, he would’ve been annoyed with the jab at his expense, but his head was still too full of fuzz to even really have room to be annoyed. Instead, he swirled the water bottle and discovered that not everything had spilled out onto the mat, so he took a tentative sip. The results were nearly instantaneous; the ectoplasm buzzed pleasantly through his core and sent a jolt of clarity into his brain. Not enough to completely clear the fog, but it was better than nothing.
Tetslaff eyed him skeptically. “You sure you don’t wanna get checked out? Dehydration is nothin’ to laugh at.”
“Yeah.” He nodded as enthusiastically as he could without setting off another wave of vertigo. “I just… need to sit for a second.”
“Aw, what’sa matter?” Brady Ibarra cooed from behind Star. “Fenton can’t handle a wittle baby workout?”
“Can it, Ibarra!” Tetslaff barked. “Alright, Manson, take him off the field. I don’t want him back out here for at least ten minutes. Nuh-uh, you stay right there Foley! You’ve got a hot date with a mat and some crunches. And the rest of you, get back to it! If you don’t have those sheets done before the bell rings, you’ll be runnin’ laps next time!”
She snatched the water bottle out of Danny’s grasp. “And you, if I catch you drinkin’ this junk durin’ gym again, you can bet your sorry bottom we’ll be havin’ a little chat with your parents. Here,” she shoved the bottle at Sam, “empty that out and get him some real water.”
Sam pulled Danny up by the elbow and dragged him toward the bleachers, away from the echo of Tucker’s complaints. “What the heck was that?” she hissed as soon as they were out of earshot.
“I don’t know.” He plopped down on the sun-warmed seats with a wince. Ouch . Too hot. Core still out of whack. Must’ve been too obvious, since Sam glanced over her shoulder and, after seeing Tetslaff busy telling Tucker to get onto a clean mat, handed the bottle back to Danny. He took a few greedy, grateful gulps.
“What do you mean you don’t know? And stop drinking that so fast, you’ll make yourself sick.”
He pulled the bottle out of his mouth and breathed in deeply before saying, “This is the stuff that keeps me from getting sick. And I mean, I don’t know.” Another swig. The familiar chill was finally beginning to return. “One minute I was fine and then just… I don’t know.”
“You totally froze up.” She looked over her shoulder again before taking a seat next to him. “Whatever it was, it definitely wasn’t normal. I’ve never seen anything like it.”
“I thought we’ve established nothing about me is normal these days.”
“You know what I mean, you idiot,” Sam said, giving him her trademark Manson Eye Roll. “Like did you see the ectoplasm? It just doesn’t do that on its own.”
Danny hummed and finished off the rest of the bottle. Darn. If only half of it hadn’t decided to levitate itself out of the bottle and onto the gym mat. “I mean, it kind of does that in the Zone. Float around and stuff?”
She raised an eyebrow. “Were you the one doing it?”
“Wha- no, that wasn’t me. At least, I’m pretty sure it wasn’t me.” He paused. “I was kind of distracted by whatever was going on in here,” he said, gesturing towards his sternum. His core.
Boy, Sam could really look like Mom, or even Jazz when she scrutinized him like this. “Something happened with your core?”
He sighed and rested his head in his hands. Back on the field, Tucker struggled with his crunches. Poor Tuck, having to deal with Tetslaff’s wrath all on his own. “I don’t know how to describe it. It was like… like someone just grabbed it or something. I don’t know. And then I just - I could’ve sworn I heard something. And saw something.”
“What, like another ghost?”
He shook his head. “No, this was different. But I don’t know if I can explain it that well…” A couple of ghost language words came to mind that would’ve been helpful to describe it, but none of them translated well to English.
The memory of the faint light burned clearly in his mind. Too far to reach, and flickering violently, like a birthday candle being blown out, but it had definitely been there. At least, he thought. He was still somewhat doubting that the memory of the whole experience was actually real. The shouting he thought he’d heard included.
But it hadn’t really been shouting…
Had it?
Sam was still watching him critically. Really, he wished she would give him a second to just breathe without having her breathing down his back. It didn’t help that Tucker would be demanding answers in the locker room.
So he couldn’t give a perfect description of it. Whatever it was. Big deal. He wasn’t about to keel over dead because of it.
“I don’t like this,” she said. “What if someone’s doing this to you? Trying to take you out indirectly so they can swoop in and take over the world or whatever?”
It was a possibility, to be fair, but it was a small one at best. “I don’t think so. Ghosts are kind of sensitive about cores. Like it’s just kind of one of those things you just don’t mess around with. It’d be like… I dunno, getting into someone’s brain and screwing around with how it works, or something.”
“You realize Spectra literally fed off your core that one time? And fed off of the souls of the entire student body?”
“Yeah, well, Spectra’s kind of the exception, not the rule. Most ghosts aren’t like that.”
She huffed and crossed her arms. “Whatever. I still don’t like it.”
The feeling of her eyes on him was making his skin crawl at this point. There was a good reason he tried to stay out of the spotlight as much as possible. “So what do you think we should do about it?”
Sam considered this for a moment. “We should probably get you checked out by your doctor or something. What was her name? Fluffy… something?”
“You mean Flurryfoot? I don’t know, it doesn’t feel important enough to make a long trip all the way to the Far Frozen, you know?”
“It’s your core , Danny. Do people just brush it off when they have a heart attack or whatever?”
Danny slid back on the bleachers until his butt fell onto the row of concrete behind him and buried his head into his knees. “I’m pretty sure this wasn’t the ghost equivalent of a heart attack,” he mumbled into his gym shorts.
He was grateful for Sam’s concern of course, and he knew he was lucky to have friends like her and Tucker, but really, could she not make such a big deal out of it?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pandora cursed in ancient Greek. “I should’ve known,” she muttered. Her flaming helmet flared, making Fleetfloe wince. Sure, she had possibly the strongest ice core next to Frostbite, but being so close to so much fire was still uncomfortable.
Pandora tossed the letter Fleetfloe had given her onto the throne and stormed out of the room. Fleetfloe sprinted after her.
“I told them,” Pandora was grumbling. “They didn’t listen. I knew something like this would happen, and they didn’t listen!”
“My lady,” Fleetfloe said hesitantly, “I must return to the Chief with a response as quickly as possible. Those were my instructions.”
Pandora stopped in the middle of the hallway and turned to look down at the messenger yeti, as if just remembering she was there. The yetis of the Far Frozen towered at seven or eight feet on average, but Pandora stood even taller at a dazzling ten feet. Just the sight made Fleetfloe feel even smaller and more susceptible to the rage Pandora was notorious for.
“Yes, yes,” Pandora said. “My apologies. I am… No. It’s okay. I’ll send you with a return message as soon as I can make the proper preparations.”
“Preparations, my lady?”
Pandora pushed open a great set of doors into a room that was strangely empty. Even stranger were the seven doors spread across the walls, each completely unique from the next. One stood tall and elegant, made of a wood so dark it appeared black. Another more so resembled a human sewer entrance, round and metal, though the material rippled like a curtain in an unseen breeze.
For a moment, Pandora simply stood in the center of the room before saying, “I need to consult with Frostbite about this. In person. Frostbite… and the others.”
Fleetfloe gasped. “You don’t mean…?”
“Yes.” Pandora closed her eyes and sighed. “The Ancient Council must convene at once.”
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
They didn’t get to go to the Far Frozen right after school.
For a moment, Danny wondered if Clockwork was pranking him. The scene was familiar - eerily familiar. He had to do a double take just to make sure he wasn’t experiencing some major deja vu. Especially since the last time he’d walked in on a situation like this, he’d ended up finding out that Pariah Dark had been unleashed.
“Danny!” Dad shouted, bouncing out of his seat. “Look who decided to join us today!”
A totally spontaneous visit, I’m sure , he snarked to himself, trying to ignore how his stomach dropped to his feet. “Hi, Uncle Vlad,” he said through a pained smile.
If Vlad was here, then that pretty much confirmed whatever had happened earlier that morning had been important. Crap.
“Ah, Daniel! It’s been a while since I’ve seen you,” Vlad said, his voice dripping with faux warmth. Danny resisted the urge to bite back that no , it had not been a while, seeing as how he’d had to fight Mr. Mayor himself off from overshadowing one of the city administrators just last week. But, you know. Semantics.
Sam, however, was not as afraid of unleashing her vitriol. “What are you doing here?” she snapped.
Vlad stood and brushed imaginary dust off of his suit. “Why such hostility? Am I not allowed to drop by and catch up with my dearest friend?”
“Catch up on evil ,” Tucker whispered under his breath. The following oomph told Danny that Sam’s elbow had decided to find a nice spot to jab Tucker in the ribs. Apparently, she didn’t approve of the dig. Either that, or she was trying to be at least a little conscientious about Dad’s presence. But it wasn’t like Tucker didn’t know how to keep things subtle.
Focus, Fenton . Fruitloop first. Friends could handle themselves and Dad. Besides, he already knew how to handle the old man.
“I guess that makes sense,” he said, moving further into the living room and dumping his backpack unceremoniously on the floor. “There hasn’t been much time for you two to talk. I mean, Dad has been super busy and all. He’s been working on, what, at least three new inventions, and Dad, didn’t you just sign off on another contract with the city?”
Yeah. He could totally play the sneaky banter game.
Vlad’s smile turned so tight it turned his lips white. “Yes, well, if young Phantom wouldn’t be so careless during his fights, perhaps that contract wouldn’t be necessary, hm?”
Dad, oblivious to the scowl that erupted on Danny’s face, just grinned broadly and slung an arm around Vlad’s shoulders. “See? Now this is local leadership at its finest! Looking out for the town and stopping troublemakers in their tracks!”
“You know what they say,” Sam said, “never trust a politician.”
“My, such divisive words.” Vlad wriggled his way out from under Dad’s arm. “I’m sure one day you children will understand the importance of the measures I must take to keep our fair city safe. The youth of today just don’t care for civic duty like they should!”
The rage of an impassioned Sam flooded Danny and left him with a sour tang in his mouth. Some negative emotions were bearable, in terms of consumability at least, but Sam Manson’s ire? Not so much.
Vlad must have been able to taste it too, because his oily smile only widened.
Sam did not notice either of these reactions. She stomped towards Vlad with a finger jabbed towards his face. “Listen here, you little -”
“ Okay , Sam!” Tucker cut her off by grabbing onto her arm. Danny perfectly mirrored the move. “Didn’t you have something you wanted to do? Something important ?” In sync, the two boys started to guide her out of the living room and towards the lab.
“Please, don’t go on my account. I was just about to leave anyway. Such important mayoral duties I must attend to! I must sign off on those plans to develop that drab little community garden that’s been such an eyesore.”
This time, the wave of rage nearly toppled Danny over. He gritted his teeth and, with Tucker, dragged Sam into the kitchen, which turned out to be a task much easier said than done when the subject of the dragging was determined to protest the destruction of the community garden. Very loudly .
“I swear, if you make us go deaf before we’re 30, I will never forgive you, woman,” Tucker said as they began to descend the staircase into the lab.
If it had been anyone else who’d made the comment, Sam would’ve probably gone ballistic, but Tucker and Danny both had long since earned the pass to sling such digs at her. Danny figured she’d probably return the favor before long.
As it was, her anger remained directed towards Vlad. “He can’t do that! Do you know how hard we worked to get all the permits and stuff to build that garden? It took months to get the city council to approve the plans! And doesn’t he realize that we’re donating the vegetables to the school so we can actually have healthy school lunches, which, oh look! Another thing the mayor should be looking into fixing instead of schmoozing up to big donors and trying to make another quick buck off -”
“He was bluffing!” Danny interrupted. Ancients, his ears needed a break. He would always love Sam to death of course - or at least, whatever came next for a dead-but-not-quite-dead freak like him - but more often than not, she could let her tirades get loud, and it was killer on his sensitive ears.
Huh. The death puns were strong today.
They reached the bottom of the staircase, and Sam immediately whirled on him with her hands on her hips. “Oh really? And since when did you get the power to read minds?”
“I don’t need the power to read minds, he’s done the same exact thing to me too, you know!” His fingers curled into his palms. “That’s - it’s just what he does, alright? He says a bunch of crap that gets you all riled up so you end up making a mistake.”
“That’s quite clever, little badger.” Danny turned just in time to see Vlad emerge from the stairwell. “And it only took you two years to figure out!”
Danny opened his mouth to order Vlad out of his basement, but Sam beat him to the punch. “I swear, if you don’t march up those stairs and rescind whatever stupid development project you’ve got planned for the community garden, I’ll… I’ll -”
“Oh, relax. For once, Daniel was right about calling a bluff. Those plans were rejected by the city council weeks ago. Besides, I have far more important matters to worry about.” He pushed past her easily and approached Danny. “We need to talk.”
“Sorry. Not interested,” Danny said, his voice clipped. “Just get out of my house, Vlad. I’m too tired to put up with your crap today.”
“Hm. I don’t think I will.” When Danny turned to storm away, Vlad caught his shoulder and forced him back around. “Now, can I implore you to act your age for at least five minutes? The sooner you cooperate, the sooner I can get out of your hair.”
Ugh. Why did his enemies have to make good points sometimes? “Fine. You can have five minutes, so you better make it quick.”
“I’ll cut to the chase,” Vlad said dryly. He leaned down just a couple inches more, and Danny’s already tightly curled fingers dug even deeper into his hand. “Tell me what your parents have been working on recently.”
Well. It certainly hadn’t been the question he’d been expecting. “... Why? So you can steal it or something?”
“Daniel, I swear -”
“Okay, okay. Sorry . You want the truth? ‘Cause I honestly don’t know. I’ve been… busy lately.”
Vlad raised an eyebrow. “Busy doing what? Attacks have been down recently.”
“He’s got a life too, you know!” Tucker protested from the side. “You’re not the only one with things to do.”
“And it’s not like I would tell you, anyway.” He wasn’t exactly keen on telling him about the visits to Long Now, for one thing. Or the Far Frozen. Although, it would be kind of funny to see his reaction to that, given the cheesehead’s last encounter with the yetis.
Vlad looked to the ceiling and inhaled. “ Fine . Then tell me about what happened to you this morning.”
Ah, there it was. The question he’d been waiting for. Might as well make him work for the answer. How could he deny his duty as a sixteen year old to annoy crummy adults as much as possible? “How do you know anything special happened to me this morning?”
“Quite frankly? Because the same thing happened to me, and I’d like to know exactly what it was,” Vlad said, matter-of-fact. “Oh, don’t look so surprised. I wouldn’t bother to ask if I didn’t already suspect you’d been through it too.”
“It’s not that.” Danny fought the urge to give the man a cheeky grin. “I’m just surprised the oh-so-powerful Vlad Plasmius would ever admit to a moment of weakness.”
Red tinged the edges of Vlad’s eyes. “This is serious , boy!” he growled. “There are very few things that can affect a core so strongly and from such a distance, and I’m sure you can figure out for yourself that none of them are good. There could be a dire threat right under our noses, and I for one would much rather get the jump on it than the other way around. I can imagine you’d like to do the same.”
Faint memories of the disquieting sensation of his core put out of rhythm bubbled in his chest. Even now, hours later, he couldn’t tell if the dull unease that had settled in the center of his chest was a true remnant of earlier events or simply the results of an overreaction. And if Vlad had felt it too… “What could’ve done it?” he asked quietly. No more games.
Vlad sighed, and the fire in his eyes died away. “Like I said, there are very few natural forces that could have such an effect on a core. After all, it’s impossible for a ghost to have the power to interfere with another ghost’s core from a distance.”
“Wait, really?” He… admittedly hadn’t known that.
“There’s a reason why ghosts with parasitic natures must make direct contact with their victim. Or why spectral healers always interact directly with a patient’s core. They must physically handle it in order to have any real effect.”
Huh. Well, that would explain some of the more… invasive portions of checkups with Frostbite and Flurryfoot. “They can still use technology and stuff, though, right?”
He was vaguely aware of Sam and Tucker, still standing off to the side, watching with barely restrained interest. If there was one thing he could never quite explain to them well enough, one thing they just could never understand, it had to be ghost cores and all the complexities that accompanied them. They probably had just as many questions as he did, if not more.
“Yes,” Vlad answered, “although such technology would have to be extremely complex. And information on other natural tools and forces and spells to interact with cores has been lost to history, or has been classified as forbidden knowledge by the Ancient Council.”
“So, then you think it wasn’t a ghost?”
Vlad hummed and took a few steps closer to the closed portal. His eyes narrowed as he contemplated the hazard-striped doors. “I’m not completely discounting the possibility. Not all ghosts are beholden to the superstitions associated with interfering with a core. It wouldn’t be impossible for someone to get a hold of an artifact, or perhaps a healer’s instrument. Difficult, yes, but not impossible. But that’s why I wanted to ask about Jack and Maddie’s latest projects. It’s also possible that they created something that could’ve had the same effect, whether they intended to or not.”
Danny hesitated for a moment. “I mean, Dad’s had a few new projects, but I’m pretty sure they’re all ecto-guns of some sort. At least, I think.”
“Well, I wouldn’t put it past Jack to bumble his way into something so destructive.” He eyed Danny critically. “You’re sure they haven’t been working on anything else?”
Ignore the cheap shot, Fenton . Danny nodded. He hesitated again, then asked, “I - you don’t think… the Guys in White could’ve done it, do you?”
Vlad’s response wasn’t immediate. That was the farthest thing from reassuring. “My sources within the organization lately have been… inconsistent, at best. I’m still working on getting more reliable means of collecting information on the inside.”
“You mean doing more spying?” Sam accused.
He shot her a wry smile. “Would you rather have no information on them at all?”
For a moment, she was uncharacteristically speechless. “Well, I - I don’t… it’s not like Tucker hasn’t been able to get into their system before…”
“And I suppose it’s somehow morally correct for you to spy on them?”
Sam’s face flushed red, and she slowly closed her mouth.
Vlad regarded her with a smug look. “I believe my point has been made. Anyway,” he turned back to Danny, “my best estimates indicate that the GIW are not capable of creating such a technology at this time. But… I would be foolish to completely count them out of the picture.”
Danny blew out a breath. Right. This was information he could deal with. He’d handled the GIW before. It wasn’t like the prospect of the GIW having technology that could affect cores from a distance was loads more terrifying than the prospect of a ghost having that power.
No, nothing like that at all.
“So wait, if neither of you knows what happened, what are we supposed to do?” Tucker asked. “Sit around and wait till whoever it was decides to try and do it again?”
“You are more than welcome to do that, if that’s your attitude.” Vlad didn’t take his eyes off the portal he’d returned to studying. “ I plan on investigating the matter further. I for one am not too keen on allowing someone to galavant around prying into my core. If you’re alright with that, I suppose that’s your prerogative.”
“Look, if you’re just gonna antagonize my friends, then the only thing you’ll be investigating is my fist in your face,” Danny snapped. The day’s events had long since worn his patience down, and now the potential threat of the Guys in White having something that could mess with him so badly only frayed his nerves further. Maybe he’d been able to tolerate a bit more of the banter earlier, but not now.
Vlad merely glanced at Danny, unfazed. “I suppose you wouldn’t be interested in collaborating our efforts then, hmm?”
“When have I ever been interested in working with you?”
It was then that Danny’s core pulled .
A silent gasp tore at his throat as he fell to his knees and the same feeling that had overwhelmed him earlier that morning once again flooded his body. Somewhere in the corner of his mind, he was vaguely aware of Sam and Tucker rushing over to him and Vlad doubling over. If any of them were saying anything, he couldn’t hear over the rushing roar of white noise that filled his ears.
The only thing he could truly focus on was the agonizingly piercing sensation of his core being ripped away from him. Whether it was actually being torn out of his chest, he couldn’t tell, but he couldn’t help but feel the panic well up inside him that someone had actually taken hold of it and was trying to claw it out, determined to do so at any cost. It was too much. Too much .
I need… I need…
A scream echoed in his mind. This time, it was undeniable.
Except it wasn’t a scream of fear, or a scream of pain, like he would’ve anticipated. This was a wail of anguish, the kind that came from a refugee seeing their home go up in flames and ash. Or from parents who’d just found out their child had died.
Was it his own?
And just as quickly as it had come on, the feeling faded. The hold around his core eased, and his senses slowly returned. Ragged breaths blew his sweat soaked bangs out of his eyes. Nausea swirled ominously in his stomach. Please don’t throw up again , he begged himself, but the irregular rhythm his core had settled into and the feverish warmth washing over him didn’t help those prospects.
He opened his eyes (when had he closed them?) to find himself face down on the linoleum of the lab floor. Sam and Tucker each had a hand on him; their worry filled the air with a pungent taste. With a weak groan, he turned his head so his cheek rested against the floor, and he was surprised to see Vlad’s shoes fill his vision. The older hybrid also hovered over him, apparently having recovered from his own episode faster than Danny.
One of the hands on his shoulders shook him vigorously. “Danny, please ,” Sam was pleading. Her voice was thick with concern.
“Easy,” Vlad said. He still sounded like he was trying to catch his breath. “Give him space.”
If Danny could’ve moved his arm more than a few inches, he would’ve swatted it at Vlad. The last thing he needed right now was the fruitloop’s phony concern. “Lee m’lone,” he slurred. Maybe it was slightly childish, but he couldn’t be bothered to care.
Especially with that scream still echoing in his ears.
“Why was… whatever that was way worse for him and not you?” Tucker asked, a frantic edge creeping into his voice.
Vlad didn’t answer right away. Instead, he stood up and walked out of Danny’s range of sight. A second later, he heard Vlad digging around in one of his parent’s storage fridges. “Where does he keep the supplements he takes?”
There was a slight hesitation from his friends. Danny didn’t need to see to know the two of them had some sort of silent exchange (the surge of the sweeter flavor of their loyalty to him told him as much).
“Most of it is in his room,” Sam finally admitted after whatever unspoken conversation they had.
A heavy sigh came from Vlad’s direction. “ Where in his room?” he asked. “I’ll go get it.”
“Yeah, fat chance,” Tucker scoffed, standing up. “Like we’d let you have free reign in his room. I’ll go get it. You can just stay right there, where Sam can keep an eye on you.” And Danny , came the implied addition.
As the thud of his boots disappeared up the steps, Sam helped Danny into a sitting position. “You’re warm again,” she murmured as she propped his back up against her shoulder.
“Tell m’somethin’ I don’ know.” Well, at least he hadn’t sounded like a wasted frat boy in front of his whole gym class. Brady Ibarra definitely wouldn’t have let him live that down.
Ugh. An ice bath sounded so good right then. Like the one Frostbite had let him take in their bathhouse that one time, with the silky cold water and the swirls of ectoplasm and the yummy smelling bubbles…
Sam fixed Vlad with a hard glare. “So? You gonna answer the question or what? Because I’m starting to think it’s awfully convenient that somehow Danny’s a heck of a lot worse off than you.”
Vlad pinched the bridge of his nose, and Danny got the sense that he’d been thrown off by the episode more than he cared to let on. “Honestly, girl, what would I have to gain by subjecting myself to this? I could achieve the same ends with far more direct measures,” he bit out.
That much was probably true. Vlad could be very underhanded, but in Danny’s experience, those underhanded techniques got used way more often when he played his mind games. When he was out for blood (or ectoplasm), he tended to get straight to the point.
Not to mention Vlad was definitely not the kind of man to purposefully put himself into this vulnerable of a position.
Vulnerable . Why couldn’t he have thought of that word earlier?
“But do y’know why?” Danny asked quietly. Any accusation he might’ve mustered before had evaporated as soon as his core had been pulled on again. Vlad might be a dirty, morally gray jerk of a man, but he really couldn’t imagine his archenemy going to such unthinkable lengths just to get at him. Sure, torturing, undermining democracy, and cloning weren’t off the table, but messing with cores was too far.
He just wanted to know what was happening at this point.
Vlad’s eyes bore into his. A reproachful twinkle reflected off of the man’s pupils, but something else danced behind them. Could that be… concern? Care?
“I’m afraid not,” he finally admitted, matching Danny’s volume. “Not without knowing the source of the disturbance.”
“That’s reassuring,” Sam said under her breath.
A single red spark flickered at Vlad’s fingertip. “Believe it or not, I am not all-knowing. For all we know, the explanation could be as simple as Daniel having a younger core than I. His has not had the same amount of time to develop as mine has had.”
Tucker came thundering down the steps, a water bottle plastered with the NASA logo in hand. “I couldn’t find any of the vials,” he said in between gasps for breath. “I think this should have enough in it.”
Danny took the bottle with a grateful smile and began guzzling it down. Like before, the effects of the ectoplasm were practically instant. With a new surge of energy, he adjusted himself so he wasn’t leaning against Sam any more. That was better.
“Not so fast, little badger,” Vlad said, plucking the bottle out of Danny’s grasp, much to the disappointment of the latter. “These are the supplements you normally take, yes?”
“Yeah, and? Buy your own if you want some that bad.” Ah, there was the return of that Fenton fire.
Vlad merely rolled his eyes in response. He took an empty vial off one of the lab tables and rinsed it out before pouring a little bit of the bottle’s contents in it. “Trust me, my boy, you’ll thank me later. There is no reason you should need to drink a whole bottle in one sitting.” He handed the bottle back to Danny.
“I don’t drink it all in one go,” he grumbled, but he accepted it and took another sip.
“I want to analyze the makeup of this concentration,” Vlad continued, as if Danny hadn’t said anything. “For one, I can help you find a stronger blend to help you receive the same effect in a much smaller dose. No more need to chug ectoplasm like some uncultured animal.”
Danny nearly choked on his sip of ectoplasm, and Sam snapped, “Better an ‘uncultured animal’ than a creep who picks fights with a teenager.”
Danny rested a hand on Sam’s shin and, despite his core’s discomfort, tried to channel some of his cooler energy to her to counter Vlad’s heated aura beginning to encroach on them. It was a trick he’d picked up from Clockwork after having it used against him more than once: redirecting his intake of emotional energy into an output to help influence the environment around him. He tried to avoid using it on his friends and family too often (getting used to the idea of eating their emotions was bad enough, let alone intentionally influencing them), but he was definitely not in the mood to get into any sort of fight.
Questionable or not, it seemed to work. Sam’s muscles released their tension under his hand, and he vaguely felt Vlad’s aura retreat a touch. Which was a relief. He didn’t know if his core could handle much more at the moment.
“As I was saying,” the older hybrid said tightly, apparently trying to keep his own anger under control, “even if it’s heavily diluted, it’s clear that this specific concentration does seem to have a strong positive effect on you, in the wake of the interference with your core. If I can reverse engineer this formula and test it against samples of your energy, I might be able to narrow down a possible explanation as to what is causing this interference, or at least how to better counteract it.”
“Why would you do that? Why not just study your own stuff?” Tucker asked.
“Daniel and I are two different people,” Vlad replied easily. “Much like each human has their own, unique genetic makeup, the core makeup of each ghost is unique to that ghost. I could test my own energy to narrow down the possibilities, and I fully intend to do so, but that wouldn’t do much in terms of helping Daniel.”
“Wait, what?” Danny blinked in surprise. “You actually want to help me?”
Danny’s interjection caught Vlad off guard. He looked up from the glowing vial with wide eyes. An instant later, they glazed over with his usual air of confidence, but the initial reaction was unmistakable.
“Why so shocked?” he said with a bonafide chuckle. A chuckle . If that didn’t prove he’d been thrown off, even if just for a moment, then nothing would. “You do realize you are far more valuable to me safe and healthy than you are harmed, do you? What good would any of my plans be if something happened to you?”
Danny narrowed his eyes the tiniest bit. The comeback had been too… normal. Something wasn’t right about it. Still, out of some far-fetched desperation to keep this from becoming weirder than it already had, he scoffed and said, “That’s rich coming from the guy who’s beat me up more than practically anyone else in the Realms.”
If Vlad didn’t want to share with the class, then whatever. He didn’t have the patience to squeeze the truth out of him.
“It’s all been for your own good, dear boy,” Vlad said, putting a stopper in the vial. “One day, you’ll understand.”
“ So many creep alarms going off right now,” Sam said under her breath. Danny chose to ignore the comment. Fruitloops were gonna fruitloop.
With a flourish of black light, Masters became Plasmius. “I expect to hear of any developments you may encounter,” he said, looking at each of the teens in turn. Of course, his eyes lingered on Danny the longest. Maybe Sam had a point about the creep thing.
“Bold of you to assume we’ll just tell you things.” Danny folded his arms across his chest. Did he look as confident as he hoped? Probably not, but at least he wasn’t slurring his speech anymore. Seeing Plasmius always managed to stir the decidedly ghostlier part of him that pushed him to start posturing, trying to make himself seem like more of a threat than he truly was. He couldn’t help it.
He didn’t like it.
Vlad raised an eyebrow. “Believe me, Daniel, this is not a situation in which you want to shun my services. I highly suggest reconsidering.”
Reconsidering? Had he even made a decision?
Why was Vlad even being so intense about this anyway?
Well, he kind of had an idea. Vlad wanted to see to it that this hole in his defenses was dealt with quickly. That had to be it, right? When had Vlad ever been one to just leave a potential weakness sitting out there?
Danny met Tucker’s eyes. The latter looked unsure about the entire situation, but gave Danny a tentative shrug. Whatever you think is best, man , Danny could practically hear him say.
He turned to look at Sam next. She had a much stronger eye of suspicion than Tucker, and it was clear from the look on her face that she didn’t want anything to do with Vlad. Part of Danny wanted her to argue with him, try to convince him that this was a horrible idea.
Instead, the hardness in her jaw softened just the slightest, and she closed her eyes. For you , she seemed to say. I’m only willing to do this to help you .
With a resolved sigh, Danny returned his gaze to Plasmius’. “If we work together on this, and you stab us in the back,” he threatened, “I’ll drag you back to the Observants’ Tribunal myself. They still have it out for you for releasing Vortex, you know.”
“Then I think you’ll find yourself pleasantly surprised.” Vlad smiled, revealing his sharp fangs. “Oh, and Daniel? You say that thinking you’d be able to keep me down long enough to bring me there.” With a cackle and a sweep of his cape, he disappeared out of the lab.
Danny’s shoulders dropped as soon as he felt the presence of Vlad’s core fade away. “Stupid, cocky fruitloop,” he muttered, staggering to his feet. Sam grabbed his elbow to steady him.
“Was anything about that weird for anyone else?” Tucker asked. “Like Vlad ? Wanting to work with us ?”
“You know he’s doing it just to get at Danny!” Sam exploded. She must’ve really been working to hold her tongue while Vlad had still been there. “He probably thinks he’ll be able to convince you that you’re better off with him or something. I’m still not convinced that he’s not just faking it and doing something to Danny behind all our backs!”
Danny bit his lip. Something had been off about Vlad, and like he’d already deduced, he knew why , especially since his own reasoning was similar, but could Sam and Tucker understand? Could they understand how terrifying it felt to have the looming threat of this unseen force, just waiting, primed and ready to seize his core again and try and rip it from him? Would they get that every ghostly instinct of his was screaming at him to run and hide somewhere in the Zone where no one would be able to touch his core, where he could protect this side of himself from being so brutally violated?
No. They were only human. They couldn’t understand.
Probably the thing that sucked the most about the only other person like you (other than your clone) being your worst enemy.
“Even if he tries,” he chose to say, “it won’t work. You know that.”
“Yeah… I know…” Sam sighed, and her posture drooped. It suddenly struck Danny how emotionally exhausting this all had to be for her, too. For both her and Tucker. This was the second time in 12 hours that they’d just seen him go through some sort of terrifying episode. He had no clue what happened outside of his own body during those episodes. The thought that he could be at fault for scaring them so badly made him feel sick all over again.
Without thinking, he grabbed a hand from each of them. When they looked at him in surprise, he offered them as warm of a smile as he could muster. “Hey. I promise, alright? It’ll be okay. We’re not gonna let some old man get the best of us.”
Tucker reacted much faster than Sam. He grinned and squeezed Danny’s hand. “True that. Besides, if he decides to turn heel, then I’ve still got some payback I’ve been waiting to give for those anti-tech laws he tried to pass when he first got elected. He’ll find out security at City Hall isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.”
Sam eventually smiled as well, though the concern was far more evident in her face. “That’s assuming there’s anything left after I get done with him,” she said with a weak laugh. She met Danny’s eyes and squeezed his hand too.
A metallic knock echoed through the lab.
The three friends turned their heads all in different directions. “What the heck?” Danny craned his neck to look up the stairwell. “I thought that door up there was wood.”
“But the tables are metal,” Sam said. She swiped a random ecto-rifle from the table closest to her. “So are the fridge doors.”
“Yeah, and so’s that,” Tucker said. His voice had turned uneasy, and when Danny turned to look, he had a finger pointed at the closed portal doors.
A familiar tingle worked its way up from his core and into his throat. “Grab a weapon,” Danny ordered, to which Tucker happily obliged. He himself called forth a healthy buildup of green energy.
He tried to ignore the uncomfortable flutter that came from his core as a result.
He pressed a cautious thumb into the Fenton Genetic Lock, and the hydraulics in the portal doors began to hiss as the mechanisms opened. Otherworldly green light spilled into the lab as the doors inched apart. Danny became hyper-aware of Sam’s finger tensing against the trigger of her rifle, of Tucker’s shallow breathing, of the bluish mist seeping through his lips. Right there . It was…
A woman’s head poked through the portal.
“Oh!” she exclaimed when she saw the three teens with their attacks primed. “Am I interrupting something?”
Danny’s energy fizzled out around his hand. “Uh…”
The ghost’s burgundy colored eyes landed on him, and her face split into a wide smile. “Ah, perfect!” She stepped the rest of the way through the portal and made a beeline for Danny, dropping to her knees at his feet.
“What is even happening right now,” Sam said.
“O, Danny Fenton-Phantom of the Mortal Realm, Pariah’s Bane, brave warrior and favored ally of Her Ladyship, Pandora of Asphodel,” the woman recited, “an audience has been requested of you by my Lady Pandora and Chief Frostbite of the Far Frozen. They require your presence at once!”
The three friends stared in stunned silence at her bowed form.
“Do you think this counts as a development?” Tucker asked.

"He's gonna sell it all 'cause he's Danny Phantom"
that's so fucking funny, i hate how much i love this!! i have made it way too long, rip to my five sentence rule - there's such a goldmine of content here lmao
👻
"I'd say it's been going on for... about a month now?"
"Two months," Sam interrupts. "It started just after your parents came in, remember?"
"Oh, Ancients, yeah, them. I can't believe I forgot that."
"Yeah, dude, it's thanks to them that this all started!" Tucker's practically vibrating in his chair, far too cheerful about the whole thing.
"Yeah," Danny sighs, looking directly into the camera. "Thank you, Mom and Dad. Thank you very much."
"Danny's parents are ghost hunters, which, as you can imagine, got Michael very excited. And very into ghosts. He accused Meredith of haunting him the other day, now he keeps spraying her with holy water and yelling 'Begone, foul spectre!' He's really taken a liking to Danny's parents."
"Can't imagine why."
"Yeah, and then—then—" Tucker dissolves into laughter, wheezing as he tries to catch his breath. "Then he brings in that personal trainer! In her yoga pants and crop top, with a pilates ball and everything! Sends her over to—to see Meredith, and then—oh Ancients—then when the woman leaves and Meredith is still there, he locks himself in his office and blasts the Lord's Prayer!"
"We think he mispelt exorcist. Hired someone in exercise instead."
"Exorcists are all phoney, anyway! And PTs are only slightly less phoney, so make sure you do your research and get someone that actually knows what they're doing before you commit, kids." Danny says, pointing down the camera. "That's how I got so jacked."
Both Sam and Tucker share a look before bursting into even more laughter. With a soft smack on his arm, Sam can't help but tease, "Please, you're 5'4" and look like you'd break your arm if you ever picked up a ream of paper. No wonder your sales are so low."
"Wow, that's so rude. I can't believe you'd do me like that. I'm 5'4 and a half, thank you."
"That's right, babe, and we love you for it."
Their laughter peters out and the trio slowly pull themselves upright in their chairs, remembering the cameras and the story they're meant to be telling.
"Honestly, thanks to these guys, the past few weeks have been a nightmare."
"Now who's being rude? At least this is one of those fun nightmares that you can laugh about later."
"Nope, this is a normal nightmare that everytime you think you've woken up from, you get back to work and see your boss dressed up in a hazmat suit that your parents sent him and realise that actually, maybe the real nightmare was the work colleagues you made along the way."
"Oh. Yeah, that sounds about right, sorry, Danny."
Tucker puts him on the shoulder and stays silent for a grand total of five seconds before turning back to the camera with an ecstatic grin on his face and a deep breath.
"Anyway, everytime one of us goes into Michael's office, we sneak something off his desk and blame ghosts. Sam's hidden some speakers in the ceiling that play recordings of her crying on a timer."
"I should have been an actor. I also got some of the warehouse guys in on it, so everytime Michael goes down there they'll throw a box or two around and make some ghostly moans. Didn't even ask why, they just agreed."
Sam's back to looking very proud of herself. Danny's back to cradling his head in his hands.
"Is that why Boxy's been about lately? Guys, seriously? I need to sleep!"
The only answer he gets is a shrug as Tucker turns back to the camera.
"Oh, and I've also installed a script on his computer so that whenever he types the word 'ghosts'—or 'goats', again, he's not really great at typing—his screen starts getting all staticky and closes down. He shrieks everytime, it's so funny!"
"I wonder if he'll go with a different PT to exercise his office next?"
"We should suggest P90X—your office ghost free in three months or your money back!"
Sam and Tucker are both burst into laughter, sinking deeper into their chairs as Danny just shakes his head. It takes a solid minute for the two to calm down, and more than one pointed question from the producer to get them back on track.
"Where's it going? Does it really have to go anywhere? Can't the joy of the bit be destination enough?"
"I wish it would go away," Danny groans, still not lifting his head. "I get enough of ghost hunting in my free time, I don't need it here, too."
"I've changed Danny's employee file to list him as deceased just to see how long it takes Michael to notice."
"Seriously? Tucker, really? That's—"
"Genius, Tuck. And then we can be all: 'Michael, what are you on about? Danny's been dead for three years!' I can't wait to see his face!"
"You guys know that Dwight's going to actually try to end me if he finds out, right? Pretty sure Dad slipped him a Fenton blaster before he left."
"You know what they say," Tucker says, grinning directly down the camera, "'Gaslight, Ghost them, Get pranked, boss!'"

Happy Birthday dp-marvel, so here's a little treat:
"Um, Danny, why is your post trending?"
"What post?" One of the coworkers asked.
"Correction: not just his post, but also his instagram story...and now he's trending on twitter."
"Wait, you have instagram? DUDE! Tell me your username."
"He's a teenager, of course he does." she snapped. "Not the point. The question is why are you trending, Danny?"
Danny blinked. "I didn't know I was trending. I turn my phone off during office hours - anyway, what about my instagram story?"
She squinted at her phone. "Because of you, Wayne Enterprise is getting THAT much attention now. The PR is going to have a wild time handling this since you tagged the location."
One of the coworkers muttered, also looking at the phone, "And now someone is making a comment 'another Wayne'."
The color drained on her face while Danny just went back to work happily and blissfully at the inner turmoil he has created.
"At least Mr. Wayne doesn't have social media account."
..
Meanwhile, the PR team was panicking to make sure every comment about Danny's resemblance to the Waynes were deleted. In fact, one of the members even managed to convince Danny to deactivate his account for fear of "security risk".
You can imagine everyone sigh in relief after that near disaster.
...
Bruce stared at the sales graph, eyebrows rose up in surprise, "That's a sudden turn."
"A pleasant turn," Lucius smiled.
"Do you know something about this? I don't think we have done anything significant - we already hit the sales target before the end of the year."
"That's impressive," Tim noted.
"Let's just say we have improved the Wayne Enterprise social media presence and thank the PR team for this." Lucius said mysteriously. "How the company brings joy to certain people's lives."
The Waynes shared a quizzical look while every board member just sigh in relief.
😂 that's a fun little snippet. Thank you so much. 🥰🤗

I recently read your DPxDC post comparing the Ghost Zone to Yggdrasil.
Ans I've been playing Elden Ring again lately, mostly because the Lore in it keeps dragging me back.
And I think you'd like the concept of Erdtree Burial. It even matches up with your post.
Imma try my best to explain the concept so Spoiler starts here:
-------------
Anyways, so Erdtree Burial means to take a recently dead body of someone who committed grand feats and/or is worthy of honor, and place them to rest amidst the roots of the Erdtree (which is basically Yggdrasil vut legally distinct).
The Tree itself will then take the soul and memory of the deceased and etch them upon itself, preserve their soul and remember them.
----------------
What if the Erdtree is that world's link to the World Between Worlds?
So, can you imagine all these Elden Ring Demigods, Honourable Dead and Great Fighters occasionally taking a leisurely stroll out of their Afterlife Home amidst the branches of the Erdtree to go visit the Ghosts that live in the Zone?
Random giant dude passes by, twin Greatswords at his back, and goes to grab a whole 20 barrels of ecto-ale to bring back to his friends.
Danny, coming back from visiting Clockwork, has to do a double take, and ask the bartender some questions.
"While was that guy? He looked a little too golden to be a Ghost"
"Ah, that's just Radahn. He says he's a General or something. That he once held back the stars all by himself. Apparently fought some wars, and they still needed like 20 great warriors fighting together to put him down after he went senile. Hogwash, if you ask me."
Danny hears that the guy used to throw hands with celestial bodies regularly, and knows exactly where he'll be for summer vacation.
If the Tarnished player character is already Elden Lord by then, I can definitely see Danny coming back wearing the Twinned Armor set.
(Especially if it's my Strength/Faith/Arcane character. She used the Butcher's Knife greataxe, with the Stormcaller Ash of War and a Bleed enchantment, plus Rot Dragon and Black Flame spells)

Hello yes! I DO enjoy this thought! You were ABSOLUTELY correct!
Haven't played the game? But? Now? I CAN NOT get the idea of the Zone itself being The Erdtree out of my head?
Great and endless. With roots and manifestations, that may or may not reach into the world it cradles, that will imprint upon itself souls of those buried close. That it may cherish them FOREVER.
Are we within in it? Held by it? Consumed? It is not for our mortal minds to know. Perhaps not even for gods to know.
But, oh. OH! What made Danny so DIFFERENT? No answer found in his world. No answer found anywhere near it. Yet? Here they know it. A simple answer, given freely. It feels almost unfair. Like he has been cheated of catharsis. As though he should have had to fight and scrape and FORCE them to speak.
They can not even begin to understand, what it is like. Being so alone.
Or maybe... maybe they can.
He's not sure which he wants more. Which he fears is true.
For what was the portal? If not sharp blade cut into the celestial earth? Plunging into starlight soil and primordial soup, to the tangled roots of something greater. A tree. THE tree. Dragging back that soil and nicking those tightly woven, buried things. A welling of ichor, golden and green and DIVINE.
A plunging of that blade into his heart.
His lifeblood with the tree's.
A pathway where none could ever have been.
Oh, what rituals we blindly perform. Our ignorance of their meaning does not give them less power, only leaves us unguarded. It does not have to be on ancient stages and with ancient things, to be a ritual. It can be a laboratory. A machine instead of a ritual blade.
Still a thing forged by Father's and Mother's hand, that killed the Son.
And then Again, through the twist of Time, by dear friends hand, first in ignorance now twice in knowing, killed again.
Twice Half Dead, Is A Corpse. And Thus, With The Tree.
Cradled and loved. Etched forever into itself. Perhaps even a bit more so, for the difficulties of his birth. For how rarely does the Erdtree bleed. How rarely the Zone spill its Divine blood. A little starlit snowflake, flitting along its many paths. Cradled in its heart. So clever and bright.
The problem, I imagine? Is that such a Divinity? Has a very distinct nature. You give unto them. They take. They cherish. They do not return.
And Danny is being a Trouble Child. Sneaking off into Worlds, mostly his own, and NOT staying in the Zone. The Tree's domain. Other Gods have power in those places! Child, cease! That is dangerous! It is like a mermaid deciding to go climb the alps. Even if she CAN make legs for herself, that is WAY to far from the safety of her God's domain! Are you mad, child!? Have you heard of acceptable Risk?!
Danny has. It made a whooshing noise as he tossed it out the window.

Imagine that Danny leaves Amity Park.
Imagine that he goes to Gotham for x or y reason. He is there now and that is where he lives.
Now imagine that, one day, the sky turns green. Gotham is taken into the Ghost Zone.
And Pariah Dark is free.
There are some ways you could imagine this going. Here is a list of random things that could happen:
Danny already fought him and will not hesitate,
(to fight him? command him? *shrugs?*)
Jazz becomes Fright Knight to Danny and is the one to go beat Pariah a new one (cue Anger Management?)
Danny hasn’t fought him but might as well because this is his existence and he should’ve known,
Batfam is freaking out and watch in awe/horror as a teenager(?) goes up to fight(?) the being of tremendous power that just literally took their town,
Batfam have their shit together and are calmly trying to call reinforcements or were already there in the form of a reluctant Constantine, or Justice League of aleatory picking,
Batfam scoured for information and have already tried to engage the damn fucker threat but it is really not going well, yknow?
The Batfam collectively fight and become the Ghost Reign, also known as either the most dysfunctional or the most competent ruling body the Realms has had,
or,
A member of the Batfam does a Danny, throws the final blow, and because they died they have rights to become ghost king,
and also suddenly aware of all the liminals and ghosts that exist in town, maybe,
Gotham introduces herself and maybe brings to their attention a certain resident of town that might need some help that rhymes with uncanny and badminton or Nightwing’s ale idk it depends,
Danny, if this is what happens,,, not saying it does,, over a period of time gets to know them and, as these things go, becomes the Fright Knight of the Bat associated Ghost King because he needs to protecc,
Bonus? In the meantime...
The town is in a state of disarray and no one is safe because the rogues and the whole criminal community just had to take advantage of this,
There already is a resistance because of course they know what to do in case of a town wide pseudo take-over,
Someone, thankfully, knocked out the Joker and he won’t nonsensically beat Pariah and become the ghost king thank god,
(unless it’s a dark timeline and we want angst)
or,
The town is fine. Everyone is on their way to their regularly scheduled activities. This is alright.
Weather is just a bit wonkier than usual, a passing green storm or aurora borealis.
Maybe the Joker finally managed to turn the clouds acid green with how much gas he is expelling into the atmosphere. The Bat will fix that, they’re sure. They’ll just need a stronger umbrella for a while. Just in case.

Y/N Pov
A year had gone by since everything had happened. This time we decided to stay in New York. It was our home and Tara was in school. We were tired of running we just wanted to settle down.
Things felt like they were finally coming together. You and Danny were happy and you had even taken the step of moving in with each other. Learning to let go of Tara was hard but you were doing it.
She was moving on campus and the twins promised they would watch after her. I went back to therapy again. It was helping a little bit we were on a journey here.
After everything that happened you two moved far out of the city. You lived in a quiet litle town. There was this amazing cafe that the both you loved so much they saved you a pertmanet seat
You guys even got a dog together. Family walks were the best. Finding new places where you lived. You both loved walking though the park holding hands
Every day was weird though it was like I was getting better. I was getting to the place I wanted to be
. But then It felt like I kept waiting for something to drop. I had to remind myself not to have a panic attack every time the phone rang.
Danny was incredible though. He was there for you and always re assured   he wasn’t some secret killer obsessed with your dad.
Sense things were getting back to normal you decided how you wanted the rest of your life to look.
You spent so much time worrying about other people that you needed to take care of yourself. Since  Then? you decided to take some classes at the local community college. Just some general education classes.
You were thinking about becoming a trauma counselor. Being able to help others and know why they weren’t alone. To show people how strong they are.
Danny was doing well as well. He was still hella overprotective of you though. You were grateful to have someone in your life who cared so much about you .
The two of you were even talking a lot about your future together. A family and getting married. It was so crazy how in love with this man you were. Was it too cheesy to sa the completed you.
It always felt like something was missing and now you know why.
A sense of family and belonging was something you always wanted. Danny and everyone gave you that. someone to come home to. To wake up in the morning and see someone laying down next to you.
You never really thought you were the type to want to settle down and have kids and wear a wedding dress and say sappy vows.
You considered yourself a lone wolf type of person. But being with Danny changed all that.
Havings kids and buying a big house and growing old with him was something you dreamed about.
You never got tired of being with each other either. He would always drop you off to school or work. And you insisted with finding your own way home.
He would even drop by for lunch just because he missed you. He would always bring flowers to the most amazing ones.
Life at home was even better to. You were a terrible cook so he took care of that you did the dishes a true team.
He always had his set of TV shows he loved to watch. He loved crime shows like FBI. You thought he looked like the guy Nestor but he didn’t see it.
He made you sit with him and watch them all. He loved sharing his intrest with you.
He also never wanted to go to bed by himself because was lonely. Which you thought was really sweet.
The little things like that always meant so much. A simple normal life with the man you were in love with.
New Horzions were on the way and you welcomed them with open arms
