not to get into it and i have better things to do with my time than nitpick fics other people are clearly excited to be writing but like sometimes i wish people would just do a quick wiki search before they decide that the presence or absence of something is going to be a major plot point.

petty level of this grievance: admittedly opals are not super important in asoiaf but they do show up several times. fire opals too. a quick check of search of ice and fire could have told this author this before they made 'character coming in from [redacted crossover setting] has Never Before Seen type of jewel! this is super valuable bc they dont exist on planetos and selling these will get this character Set For Life!' especially given that said crossover setting really does gave several suitable materials that genuinely dont exist in westeros.

low-moderate level of this grievance: treating lions like a mythological creature thedas only has bare rumors of, and then having the inquisition heavily lean on an existing lion-based title for [redacted crossover character you can figure out the identity of by using your brain] when lions are literally the heraldic animal of the ruling family of orlais. doing this lionhype thing would therefore obviously have some political consequences. instead something that could have lead in to an interesting plot angle is simply an infuriating nothing.

high-moderate level of this grievance: if you are setting out to write a self-declared uplift story using a books-only setting and have put enough research and effort in to draw up reasonable, detailed maps based on known canonical geography and territorial claims of a region, you have little excuse for not knowing that there is, very intentionally, no mention of potatoes in the series (this series where food is often deeply important on a material and symbolic level, to the point where one of the common talking points to razz on the writing is 'sudden, very detailed description of food that stands out from the rest of the scene'). uplift stories require some thought as to what would or would not be available, where/how some resources could be found/built, etc. if westeros already had potatoes as a normal staple crop the situation would be massively different! i know you know this bc your character outright ruminates on the historical impact of crops spreading between the old and new world. if mitigating the famines is a major plotline in your uplift story why wouldnt you make a story beat from it? or at least just have the potato discovered and implemented? the classic excuse of 'oh turns out it originates from sothoryos and only a few groups are willing to broach that place looking for goods' is right there! why would you make it come pre-installed?

Yes, Sam slept with a demon but that's kinda the real metaphor here. Sam is pure-hearted. He is the brother that prayed to God, had faith in his angels and despite the demon blood in him he truly believes it's not who you are, it's what you do that matters. Now imagine the beauty and the powerful impact of corrupting someone this pure-hearted on the story. As a viewer, we are like, Sam could never but in the end he does. The purpose of Sam sleeping with a demon is not to portray him as bad and Dean as good, it's to show that with right motivation and influence even the purest can be corrupted and the noblest can fall.

Again, the whole apocalyse aside, if you just look at it from 'Sam had sex with a demon' perspective, it only corrupted him. No earth shattering consequences came out of that affected others.

And while we are here keeping score, here are some questionable things done by Dean and their consequences that impacted others:

Made a deal with a demon to bring Sam back. Consequences: everyone questions him if he was sure what he brought back was 100% human. And Sam does seem different post that.

Dean tortured innocent souls in Hell and he liked it. The consequences here are obvious and it kick started apocalypse breaking the first seal

Taking the MoC to kill Abaddon. Consequences: becomes agressive, dies and comes back as a demon beating the crap out of people

Manipulated Sam to let Gadreel possess him, killing Kevin in the cross fire

Killing death instead of Sam to get rid of the mark. Consequences: unleashes Darkness. Ends up almost killing the sun.

Says yes to Michael 2.0. Consequences: starts apocalypse 2.0 with hybrid monster army

A show where real historic pirates get smooshed together with the greatest examples of some literary pirates and shaken until everyone's bloody and grubby.

A lot of queer characters, cool pirates doing cool pirate things, and the inevitable and cruel encroachment of "civilization" onto the last safe pirate port.

Alien-planet-of-the-week show where the villains are body-snatching snakes pretending to be gods (to start with). And the heroes (to start with) are an archeologist/linguist with the Olympic gold medal in dying, a theoretical astrophysicist who occasionally blows up stars, a military guy whose favorite character is Bart Simpson, and the guy who can convey all the feelings under this (or any other) sun in a single raised eyebrow.

Also, the demon/post-apocalyse au sounds cool. Tomura steps forward and everyone expects him to demand another brutal sacrifice, and then he points at Dabi and says "I want one year to court you and after that we either marry or you will be forever protected from any demons, me included". What a rollercoaster of emotions for Dabi, lol.

Literally, just oblivious dumbass Dabi has me bewitched and has stolen my heart ❤️ Shigaraki would be so confused after they finally fuck for the first time and Dabi is like 'what the fuck I didn't even think you liked me that much' and goes through all 5 stages of grief as he realizes this is the man he wants to spend the rest of his life with

And yeeeesssss the poor boy would go from preparing himself to die to being proposed to in front of everyone he knows in .5 seconds. He would not know what to do with himself, especially when Shig starts showing up with presents and asking to take him out on dates

Regarding your post-apocalyse map:

May I ask what is the politics like in the Nation of Humanity? The name seem to imply certain things, and a unified United Nations isn't one of them (or at least not of the original charter and principals).

Also, what's up with all the free states? Did decentralised governance somehow become a cross-continental and cultural trend? If so, how did they overcome their challenges and expand, to the map's date?

Nation of humanity: hyper militant state which views all other sovereign states as a defiance of its authority. Though it's not actively at war with all of the free states, it very much views them as enemies, and views their existence as something wrong with the world.

Free States: just a word for any nation that's been able to defy both the Nation of Humanity's authority, and the undead swarm. Because the Nation of Humanity is centered around the Pacific and Indian oceans, most free states are located around other bodies of water. Some free states are certainly decentralized, and mostly because centralization is harder in a world like this.

Expansion: every state expands for different reasons, and in their own way. For a lot of free states it's just people settling along the coasts, and slowly pushing inward. The undead are known to move in large waves, so areas on the mainland can be relatively empty, and than suddenly be struck with a massive army of the dead, making windows for colonization possible. Alongside that humans have gotten better at fighting the undead since they first appeared by a lot (for context, it's been decades since the apocalypse at this map's start).

Dungeon World One Shots! Looking for players!!

Pitch

PCs are part of a demon hunting group in a 'swords and elves' fantasy setting – think Grey Wardens from Dragon Age. You're sent out when an incursion happens to fight back monsters and save folk. Tone is meant to be explicitly heroic. Each session is one mission, each session is maybe 3-4 hours long (but I'm kinda winging it!). All one shots exist in the same setting, but that's mostly so I can share improv work, there's no overarching plot.

I'd love to run, like, 2-4 of these depending on how many people we can wrangle – but also if we only get a single party I'd happily run more than one for them! ^^

When is it going to be?

I'm thinking Fridays or Saturdays, maybe starting at 4pm EST – starting time is flexible though! – but also if there's like 4 of you that want to do it, say, on a Tuesday, we can make that work ^^ Definitely can't do Sundays or Thursdays at this time though

I've never played Dungeon World before~!/What do I need to bring~?

Dungeon World is a simple Powered by the Apocalyse game – i.e. dice mechanics revolve around rolling 2d6 dice, and adding a stat modifier to the result. 6 and below is a miss, 7-9 gets you what you want, more or less, and 10+ gets you what you want!

For those that may only be familiar with DnD, it does not use a turn based system of combat, instead making it more freeflow like other actions. As many people I know on here play games like VTM V5 you'll have a fine time feeling out the flow I imagine.

This game will be hosted on discord (and will probably put everyone in the same server) so have a good enough internet connection for that – and in theory I have a working dice bot for this but sometimes it goes offline so having at least 2d6 dice around as backup would be useful!

Session Zero/Safety Measure

Trying to look after my players, and be looked after in turn, is important to me. Especially with a bunch of people I've never played with, and who haven't played with me.

Session Zero will be held informally over Discord chat with the help of an old consent form as a reference point for things to discuss. A break in the middle will be provided – but more breaks can be planned in advance.

Obviously there will be violence, possibly even against children and animals, but nothing in the way of sexual assault.

I ask that Players only bring, say, a sentence or two of backstory for their character. Humans, Elves, Dwarves, and Orcs are our fantasy races. Unless you want something else in which case just ask!
