fionna and cake drawings before and after watching the episodes so far. it’s nostalgic and somehow cathartic and poignant and relatable and—it just started

#i’m part of the demographic where i was a kid when adventure time started and now watching fionna and cake as an adult makes me emotional #because did they keep us in mind when writing fionna and her attitude towards life #the dissatisfaction #the hoping for something more #something more magical than this dreary life filled with working to live and living to work #it’s so reflective of how life feels for me and perhaps many of us #and also Simon’s episode was so sad but so well thought out #exploring his feelings after the events of the adventure time finale is something I’m glad we get to see #there were already so many layers to his character in AT but now it feels like we get to dive deeper #I also felt emotional hearing Rebecca Sugar singing and writing a song that encapsulates his feelings so well #😭 it’s been awhile seeing her work exist alongside these characters #and all of these emotions get stronger because I remember AT being the one to inspire me to be a storyboard artist #when I was younger I used to follow many of the board artists here in tumblr and would get so inspired by them #to create simple but powerful boards that can capture the feelings of characters so well #Rebecca Sugar’s songs for the AT characters inspired me so much too #I’m sorry this is long I’m just feeling so many things experiencing all of this again as an adult #my art #fanart #adventure time #fionna and cake #fionna the human #cake the cat #simon petrikov

My less popular opinion (and what I believe to be implied by the art in Lost Days) is that rather than waking up in a fully grown body Jason didn’t actually complete his puberty until after his Lazarus pit dip while he was on his murder tour. Imagine you’re tied up in a basement in Berlin getting interrogated by a teenager and his voice is cracking the entire time and if you laugh he’s going to shoot you

#Late puberty Jason truthers rise #Egon calling up Talia like ‘did you send me a middle schooler what is this’. ‘He’s technically high school aged actually’#he would’ve been like 18 when he finally regained consciousness but the way he’s drawn could easily be mistaken for 15 #I know people love the body dysmorphia angst of Jason waking up big but I offer you this: Jason wakes up looking basically the same to a #world that has moved on without him and is unrecognizable. His death/injuries stunted him he existed for years in a state of suspension #while the world passed him by. He was on pause while everyone kept moving on and he didn’t get unpaused until the Lazarus pit and he has #to scramble to catch up. He’s actually 18 but the last thing he remembers is being 15 and his body reflects this state #and then once his mind is finally back online puberty hits him like a truck. Just look at the difference between how Jason is drawn #immediately after his dip in the Lazarus pit vs the end of lost days when his training arc is over #It implies it could’ve been multiple years but in order to fit with the timeline of other comics I personally don’t think it #would’ve been that long. I think he just sprouted up like a weed #Jason Todd #dc #I think Jason is technically still growing by the time he’s red hood. Did a redesign of Connor’s mystery wife! She’s gotta be my oldest OC, I literally designed her like a week after I got into AC back in February 2019. I know @ramshackledtrickster has posted her a bunch, but I wanted to share her on here too :3

Her name is Tekonwenaharake! That’s more of a placeholder name, really, since there’s a living Mohawk person with the name, but I don’t wanna just refer to her as “T” or “Connor’s wife,” so I’ll be tagging her like this if I post her more!

These drawings came about because I was playing around with drawing her more historically accurate. Eventually, I found a happy medium between her original design and historical records from the time (paintings, clothes, etc.). I really loved how this turned out and I hope you guys do too!

Also fun fact: I always try to make her look like an older version of Io:nhiòte since I imagine she looks a lot like her mom. I imagine even the earrings were gifts to Io:nhiòte that she then wears in the AC Reflections comic!

Was there every any hope for Dream and Nightmare?

Could they have stayed in their universe, stayed together, stayed happy?

Maybe. But somehow, I can't see it, at least not after the village comes into the picture. They might have been able to stay in their own little bubble forever, but as soon as that outside force exists, the clock starts ticking.

It was Nightmare who couldn't take it anymore. But it could have easily been Dream. Either way, it was only a matter of time. I don't think there was any avoiding it, not really. Not in their situation, not with who they are.

Nightmare. The scapegoat, the dark one, the moon, the night. Tied to his brother by his very name, because even though he wasn't a nightmare, he's Dream's opposite, and that is all he was ever seen as by others. The dark to Dream's light, the negativity to Dream's positivity. Always defined by his brother, even before he was hurt for merely existing. Did he ever really get to be his own person?

And Dream, the golden one, the perfect one, the kind one, the sun. Always so helpful and positive. Always in demand, because who doesn't want to be happy? Their happiness is his responsibility. So he smiles, he helps, he conceals all the stress and sadness and anger and grief. He can't be seen with negative emotions, he can't effect others with his own feelings, he can't let his own feelings or needs or self matter when there's always other people who need him. So he keeps up that sunshine mask, keeps all the clouds and rain and storms locked in the dark where nobody can see them.

You can't maintain masks like that under enough built-up pressure. Eventually, something breaks.

Maybe they still had a chance. Broken things can heal, after all. Maybe they could have helped each other, grown, figured out a way to make things better.

Or maybe they were doomed from the start.

All I know is that if one didn't break, the other would have eventually.

I may just be insane about this but does this feel like foreshadowing to anyone else. In this scene we see her trying to replicate the skill of someone else (her mother) and failing to achieve the same results that they would. That feels really specific and it's driving me insane.

Like, we see this come back again in the aftermath of the trial. Diana has repeatedly voiced her admiration for Wolfgang's ability to speak and inspire those around him in the darkest of times, saying she wished she could do the same. We see her pour her heart out and give her own speech to inspire the others-- except the reaction that she receives is cold and miserable, far from the newly kindled warmth and hope Wolfgang was able to create every time.

Diana is a chameleon. Her whole thing is to reflect, to replicate and to adapt. Do you think that this small scene where she tries to make a butterfly out of her hairclips-- a butterfly, an animal associated with transformation and change-- and the end result looking nothing like what she wanted it to be is a metaphor for her future character arc? She has declared that she wants to follow in Wolfgang's footsteps, wants to become something new, but do you think that by the end she ends up being the furthest thing from him? Do you think that by the end she will be left distorted, fundamentally wrong? Do you think that if she could see what she will become in the future, the only emotion that she can muster is horror as she gazes at a stranger that's supposed to be herself? That by the end, she won't be able to recognise herself, because there's no "her" left anymore?

#project eden's garden #p:eg #p:eg spoilers #diana venicia #wolfgang akire #it makes me think of her in the imitation artwork #the way she is more “normal” than everyone else. that she's smiley and friendly and colourful but her eyes are completely vacant. glassy #everyone else's ranges from horrifying to morbidly cryptic to depressing yet they all feel infinitely more “real” than she does #they say the eyes are the window to the soul yet hers are mirrors that only reflect the people in her sight #and in one you can see her face. expression hardened and determined with purple eyes similar to wolfgang.#and then the one where you see diana look at her imitation self covering her mouth in horror at what she sees when she looks into its eyes #and it's so unbelievably similar to when she watched wolfgang get electrocuted to death #and it feels to me like it's emphasising how his death will be her spiral into losing herself entirely failing to be like him #which makes sense. because she has an idealised image of who wolfgang was #wolfgang was someone who was also scared. who also struggled. who had his own insecurities and fears and secrets #wolfgang had parts about himself he hated and tried to be a better person than he thought he was presently #and he has an idealised image of his own mum. dedicated his life to be like HER #she chases after an idealised picture modelled after another idealised picture unaware that the standard she's pursuing never existed #diana corruption arc i can feel it #i can see her character going downhill mentally from here and honestly i'd love that but i would be upset cuz she deserves better #but i feel like her story will be one of transformation gone horribly wrong #which makes her such an interesting antagonist and contrast to how damon's development will likely go #anywho just rambling here in the tags don't mind me much #i just really like diana and i don't rant about her enough XD #momento rambles

statistics-wise, this year has been absolutely incredible, despite how inactive i've been, so thank you everyone!!
