Let me cut to the chase… (some spoilers)… in the eight Mission Impossible films, Tom Cruise has gone from the star of the franchise, to the executive producer, to the chief stuntman, and he probably caters lunch from the trunk of his 1949 Buick Roadmaster. He’s in virtually every scene, and everyone in the cast is relegated to a supporting role. The problem with that is, there is no room for a credible adversary to challenge him.

So instead, MI Final Reckoning throws 3 different sets of villains at Cruise.

The first is a faceless artificial intelligence “ripped from today’s headlines” called The Entity. Really? The Entity? That’s the best name they could come up with? The Entity must be mentioned a hundred times during the movie so you don’t forget it. But The Entity is a MacGuffin to move the plot along.

Esai Morales is back as the nefarious Gabriel. He was forgettable in MI-7, so it’s no surprise he’s off screen for most of MI-8. But to make sure the audience thinks he’s a Bond-level villain, he throws in a few maniacal laughs. But even the screenwriters didn’t take him seriously when they played his inevitable death as a punchline.

The third set of villains is every grey-haired bureaucrat from the previous seven films. They are there to tell Cruise’s Ethan Hunt what a terrible agent he is, disobeying orders while saving the world. One of those old dudes is even retconned to be the son of Jim Phelps from MI-1. (You know, that actor who is now one of Trump’s ambassadors to Hollywood.) Of course, they are all played by B-list actors, none with any star power. Maybe by casting these grey-haired dudes, it makes 63-year-old Cruise look young by comparison.

If you recall, Daniel Craig’s final Bond film reconned the plot of all 007 films, linking them together as one massive scheme by Ernst Blofeld. They’ve done the same for Cruise too. All 8 Mission Impossible movies are now one massive plot to end the world.

In Final Reckoning, Tom Cruise goes around the world performing his own stunts. There are two main action sequences. The first involves Cruise navigating a shipwrecked sub as it rolls around the ocean floor. The second is from the trailer - with Cruise hanging off a bi-plane as it does barrel rolls n the sky. Both sequences go on far too long. Since Cruise prides himself on his stunt work, the director decided to use every bit of footage they shot. That means several repetitive sequences which reduce the tension of the scenes.

MI-8 is rumored to be Tom Cruise’s last of the franchise, but (spoiler) since nearly his entire team survives, they will be more. But count me out.

I feel like a lot of my posts end up very repetitive on here. I tend to talk about the same few things in all of my vent posts: feeling sedentary online, not telling my dad about my posts here, giving updates about my stomach issues, worrying about school, etc. I could go on and on, because I think my posts always end up super repetitive, probably because most of my issues don't change (they just ebb and flow from less intense to more intense). out

The really hard part ends up being trying to figure out how to rephrase the same few points so that i'm not simply remaking the exact same posts over and over. So i can't say that is always fun, but it's something i think i'll always end up dealing with. Finding ways to repeat the same few things, month after month after month. I can't say it's fun, but it's just something i've learned to deal with. sigh...

Women are repetitive creatures (Essay)

When we think of handicrafts, we think of women doing them. At one time in Korea, it was popular for men to do handicrafts, but this is an exception. The characteristic of handicrafts is that the finished product is made by "repetitive operations." This is rooted in female characteristics. Even in the field of science, which is unrelated to handicrafts, women who have made notable achievements, such as Marie Curie and Rosalind Franklin, achieved their accomplishments through repetition.

On the other hand, men are not good at repetition. However, they have inspiration and have achieved achievements that make you wonder where Einstein, Schrodinger, Heidelberg, and others came up with ideas. The above may be a gender difference, but is it possible that women's abilities are overestimated as "repetitive creatures"?

Looking at the actions of Japanese women during the war, we see that things such as "thousand-women needles" given to men going to war and "thousand paper cranes" given to victims of the atomic bomb are made by repeating operations, but these are useless products that serve no purpose. While Japanese women were committing such foolish acts, American women participated as pilots in military aircraft transports and contributed to America's victory over Japan. This is an example of "repetition" being of no use.

日本人女性の戦争にまつわる行動を見ると、戦争に出陣する男性に贈る「千人針」、原爆被害者に贈る「千羽鶴」など、操作を繰り返して作られるものだが、これらは、何の役にも立たない無駄な産物である。こんな愚行を日本人女性がやっている間に、アメリカ人女性は軍用機の輸送にパイロットとして参加し、アメリカの日本に対する勝利に貢献した。「繰り返し」が何の役にも立たない事例である。
