Atsushi Nakajima (self-aware)
Self-Aware! Atsushi Nakajima x GN!Reader
Tumblr media
Warning: Yandere. OOC. Slight spoilers for Atsushi's past. Atsushi almost had an existential crisis, English is my second language.
Becoming self-aware
🐯 Atsushi was the first character who gained self-awareness.
🐯 When Atsushi realised he was a fictional character, he was devastated and confused.
🐯 His past in the orphanage... Does it have any meaning? Or was it all just for someone's entertainment? Has he even been abused by the orphanage director? Was he even a child? Or he just appeared on the river bank with memories of events that never occurred?
🐯 And his new friends? Were they alive? Or they were puppets, forced to say the same lines?
🐯 Thankfully, other characters soon become self-aware and Atsushi wasn't alone anymore, but damage has already been done.
🐯 And then he felt an entity's presence.
_________________________________________
At first, Atsushi thought, that he finally lose it. He won't be surprised, really. Atsushi couldn't even be sure, that he could be considered human at that point, so, the feeling of being watched just tagged along with Atsushi's anxiety and dread.
Soon, Atsushi realised, that it wasn't him going mad. Someone was watching him and other members of ADA. Everyone noted, that they felt someone's presence.
Yes, Atsushi could pretend, that Dazai was playing along, pretending, he also felt been watched, but, Atsushi admitted, that Dazai would never do that. And then Kunikida and President Fukuzawa admitted, that they feel someone's gaze on them.
And they weren't been watched all the time. The presence were there only when something interesting were happening. Like something, or someone, was doing it for its own entertainment. Like it was watching the TV show.
They weren't going mad. Someone was watching them. It wasn't the ability. It was someone not from Yokohama.
This someone came from outside.
And time resets.
Atsushi, once again, was on the river bank.
________________________________________
When they start feeling your presence
🐯 Atsushi was scared of you. Were you the one who did it? Were you the one, who emptied the streets of Yokohama?
🐯 Atsushi was angry at you. Were you doing it for your own amusement? Were you making them believe they were fictional characters?
🐯 And now you reset time. Are you a god? Are you a demon? Are you an evil spirit? Why are you doing it? Who give you the right to play with their lives?
🐯 Atsushi saved Dazai from the river, again. And then Atsushi felt it. The entity cheered. The entity was... praising him? For doing a good job? No, for doing the right thing. For been a good person.
"You [|||||||||||||] good [||||||||||], Atsushi! Don't [||||||||||||]!
🐯 Atsushi can recognise all the words But it was clear, that entity's feelings and words were genuine. And really strong. Atsushi felt, like he was covered with something warm. With the softest blanket.
🐯 Atsushi saw, that both Dazai and Kunikida felt the same. During their dinner in a tea house, all of them felt it. The entity was amused with Dazai's antics. The entity was intrigued by Kunikida's combat skills.
🐯 But, the most important thing happened in the warehouse, when Atsushi, once again, talked to Dazai about his past in the orphanage.
_________________________________________
"At the orphanage, people always told me I'm worthless. I have no idea where my next meal will come from or my next bed. No one would care if I died on the street. I might as well just let that beast eat me and be done with it."
As soon as this words left Atsushi's mouth, he heard sobs.
The entity was crying. Atsushi felt something warm on his cheek. Like someone was petting him.
[In reality, you are gently petting manga's panel with Atsushi.]
Atsushi recognised some words.
"poor Atsushi" "monsters" "with a child" "how dare they".
And then, clear as day.
"I am sorry, I can't take your pain away."
🐯 Atsushi felt that his anger dissapeared. He doesn't know, who are you. What are you. But he knew one thing. You cared.
🐯 Their story continues. Soon all characters heard something nice from you. The union was formed. All organisations decided to work together to find more about you and find a way to reach out for you.
And then, one day, the purple moon shined above Yokohama.
When you installed BSD Mayoi Inu Kaikitan
🐯 Atsushi was your first character. From now on, he heared you nice and clear.
"You are the good person, Atsushi! You are stronger, than you think. Don't let others say you otherwise."
"Wow! You did so much damage! You are so cool, Atsushi!"
"Here, let's raise your level!"
🐯 You praised him. You were glad, he is with you.
🐯 Atsushi felt aful that he hated you. You were so kind. And when others uncovered, that you were a simple person, who had no idea they were alive, Atsushi felt even worse. He thought you were something supernatural and bad. And you were someone normal and kind.
🐯 Atsushi want to protect you. To be near you. He and others will find a way to you world. They will be with you. Until then, they have this game to talk to you.
____________________________
You opened the BSD Mayoi. You decide to check, if there was new gifts from the office. You saw, that you had a new gift in your Gift box. Thinking, that you forgot to collect something, you tap on Gift box icon.
It was a message.
"Dear [Y/N], Thanks for been near. Thanks for been kind. I will find a way to pay for your kindness. For now, acsept this. Atsushi Nakajima."
There was 50 moons attached to the message.
You thought, that it was nee feature in a game. That time to time characters will send players messagers, thanking them. You acsept gift and open character menu. You choose Atsushi's card and pet his chibi sprite.
"Thanks for the gift, Atsushi."
You didn't notice, that sprite blushed.

atsushi nakajima ★↷
↪when he first met you he thought you were really cool. he admired the confidence you carried yourself with although he wasn't that keen on how cold you could be. but did really admire you.
↪he also really admired your swordsmanship. he found it so elegant and weirdly beautiful. but he wasn't that much of a fan for your actual ability. it was more the repercussions of your ability that he didn't really like as should anyone be around you when you use your ability, it would harm them.
↪he knew you had no control but it did little to help him not dislike it. but he still really did look up to your skills regardless. although he would never ask you directly, but one part of him really wanted you to teach him.
↪and even when he became aware of your past it did little of his perception at the moment. learning that your old position now considered you a traitor did shock him but he was willing to overlook it.
↪that was you then, and he had his own judgement on you now. and you very obviously had changed and as long as you never did such to him, why should he care.
osamu dazai ★↷
↪initially, he found you very fun. he enjoyed the mustery that surrounded you the moment you stepped into the agency and thus taking interest. spending alot of time with you wether you wanted him there or not.
↪and so it became natural that he got used to your cold, straightforward self. he also enjoyed your more philosophical takes on situations as he found any or your perceptions interesting.
↪and so it was only a matter of time until he learnt that you were branded as a traitor elsewhere. he found that some what relatable for similar reasons. bit he cared little as he could clearly tell that you had little intention to repeat and it was in the past afterall.
↪he also found intrest in your swordsmanship and skills in battle. the ice combined with your elegance with the sword provided quite the spectacle in his opinion. he wasn't aware of the little side effect as his ability cancelled it out.
↪but when he found out, he didn't know wether to be intrigued or scared. but he settled for intrigued. afterall everything you did made him more and more curious about you.
chuuya nakahara ★↷
↪from the moment you arrived at the port mafia he couldn't help but feel slightly off. everytime he looked or even thought about you he felt an unease that he thought was ridiculous. just because he couldn't read you shouldn't mean he has to feel cautious around you.
↪but maybe he should've left it as what it was. one of the first things he ever found out about you was your previous branding as a traitor. this shook your initial relationship with him as it meant he was less likely to trust you any further. but then he learnt that maybe you did change.
↪even if only a little bit. but then when he finally got closer to you would he adjust to your straightforwardness. and just your whole personality still made him feel unease but it lessened by the days he spent with you.
↪eventually one thing he could say he loved completely was your fighting skills. he admired the dedication to your swordsmanship and how well you utilized it with your actual ability. he always felt indifferent about the little side effect however.
↪and eventually he came to understand you on some level. even feeling like he could trust you more and more.
ryunosuke akutagawa ★↷
↪just like every new member of the mafia, when he first saw you he couldn't care less. if anything he saw you as someone who would be arrogant and annoying to be around.
↪but somehow he let you get slightly closer to him. he actually enjoyed how straightforward you were and how cold you could be as it matched his own personality quite well. but he still felt like ypu weren't telling him everything - you never really told anyone everything regardless.
↪he was also indifferent to your skills. from your actual ability to your skills with a sword, he didn't really care. sure it was sort of admirably but to him it was nothing more. and he never was a fan of the little side effects.
↪he began to trust you less when he learnt of your previous betrayal. but that quickly went away as he figured that if you were going to repeat that you would've done so by now.
fyodor dostoevsky ★↷
↪originally, he couldn't care less on who you are or why you were here. sure he felt a bit of intrigue on telling you probably had quite the few mystery's about you but that was about it. nothing really piqued his interest.
↪and if anything learning you were previously a traitor did seemingly nothing. initially he found it slightly interesting but quickly came to distrust you more because of this factor.
↪but his curiosity was soon repeaked when he found out more about your cold nature and rather philosophical views and conversations. and he did quite appreciate how straightforward you were - it made you more tolerable he would say.
↪and his curiosity peaked upon your ability. or more specifically the side effect. an effect that caused you to harm all those around you without trying truly did interest him. he found it despicable yet why was he so intrigued by it?
sigma ★↷
↪like everyone else, he didn't trust you at first and it took him ages to build up trust with you. he was slightly scared off you, if he said he wasn't he would be lying. but he did get over that very quickly and instead just became wary.
↪the opportunity to build trust with you feel further apart upon learning your name ahd been branded as a traitor in a past time. if you had done it once, what was stopping you from doing it again? so he did stay away from you alot.
↪however after a very long time he came to give you a chance. afterall it seemed you changed slightly and you were weirdly nice. weirdly in the way that you showed your emotions in weird ways, but he took it anyway.
↪he did admire your sword skills. your ability not so much as he did dislike it, ability and side effect. but your swordsmanship was very impresive and rather elegant in his words.

Clips of his many major and minor TV drama appearances over the years were shown
His role in The Last Man made him trend worldwide on Twitter
Tsuda shared why he started acting and voice acting
He went on a 1-week holiday trip to Prague and got recognized by overseas Jujutsu Kaisen fans 5 times.
Nakajima Kento talked about how he admired Kaiba Seto from Yu-Gi-Oh. He told Tsuda about it when they worked together. On Kento's birthday, Tsuda sent him a personalized voice message, saying one of the most famous lines in Yu-Gi-Oh.
Tsuda played Inui Sadaharu in Prince of Tennis (PoT) and it changed his life dramatically. PoT was at the forefront of the "ikemen" boom at the time, and he could finally quit doing part-time jobs.
Kazama Shunsuke, who voice acted as the main character for Yu-Gi-Oh, talks about how close the two of them were in that series even though they were playing as each other's rivals. They were both newbies to the voice acting industry with no other jobs at the time, so they hung out a lot as they waited for their call time.
Kazama is particularly smug at being aware of Tsuda's charm a lot earlier than most people, and he wants everybody to know that, lol
Tsuda shares how the cast and staff from the TV drama Saiai are really passionate about the drama. Same goes from the staff of Jujutsu Kaisen.
Namikawa Daisuke shares some anecdotes about Tsuda. Sometimes tsuda texts him about eating out together, but then leaves him on read when Namikawa asks when he's free.
Tsuda talks about his latest movie, where he plays as a villain for the first time.
Tsudaken talks about his kids (!!) His daughter in particular is a bit eccentric, just like Tsuda (That's Tsuda and the TV Show host's words not mine lol)
A more detailed summary of the episode under the read more:
On his TV drama/ Movie Discography:
Tumblr media
Tsuda talked about experience acting in the hit TV drama Saiai. On his first day filming, he forgot his lines. It's been 12 years since he last played as a recurring character in a TV show, and for his first scene, he had to do a long presentation in front of 30 people. All he could think was that there were a lot of people, and then his mind went blank.
Some notable TV drama appearances of Tsuda:
Tumblr media
- Played as a host in Ikebukuro West Gate Park (2000) in his 20s for 21 seconds - A guy hitting on the main character (Inoue Mao) in Hana Yori Dango in his 30s (2005) for 30 seconds ("Ooh, I got more screentime") - A doctor in Jin (2009) for 24 seconds ("Aww, I had less screentime lol.").
Tumblr media
In 2023, he trended worldwide on X/Twitter as an actor for his impactful scene in the drama The Last Man. When Tsuda turned up in the second episode, his acting was a popular topic on social media.
He adlibbed in the last scene of Last Man. Came up with 30 versions for that scene, and settled on "Shintaro, are you hungry?" Figured a parent would be worrying about whether his kid is feeling hungry, cold or hot.
On his acting:
Originally was aiming to be an actor, not a voice actor.
When he started acting, he was able to let all his dark emotions out using the lines he had to act out. These were feelings such as "hating people", and "hate towards society". It was the first outlet he found for those feelings, and he found that very fun. He was able to bring out his real self when he acted. Because of that experience, he couldn't give up acting.
Unfortunately, money was tight at the time and his electricity and gas would get cut off. It even came to a point when even his water would get cut off. He kept on failing in auditions, so even if he's been practicing on his acting, he didn't really have a chance to show it to others.
For him, the most painful thing about it all was that he was an absolute nobody. He had no proof that he's actually alive. But he overcame that difficulty because he was obstinate-- He believes that this is where his strength lies. He keeps doing things until he's satisfied with it.
On his voice acting career:
Voice acting was what gave him an opportunity to link with the world of expressing himself.
Says Nanami Kento is a wonderful role to play. That Jujutsu Kaisen's influence is amazing.
Tumblr media
During the New Year's holidays, he went on a holiday trip abroad. While he was sightseeing, a foreigner would call out, "Mr. Tsuda?" He said yes, all the while taken aback since he was in Prague. They asked for a photo and a signature. In the one week that he stayed there, it happened 5 times.
When he asked them how they knew him, everyone answered Jujutsu Kaisen. "Nanami, Nanami." He really didn't expect it to be so popular abroad. It made him feel the power of Japanese anime.
Tumblr media
While he was struggling with acting, he was invited to an audition for voice acting and he accepted the invitation with no hesitation. At age 25, he debuted as a voice actor for the anime H2.
At age 29 was his fateful encounter with the series Yu-gi-oh Duel Monsters (2000) where he played Kaiba Seto.
Tumblr media
Nakajima Kento says his idol in life is Kaiba Seto. It was also thanks to Tsuda's acting that Kento admired Kaiba, and he told Tsuda exactly that when Tsuda did the narration for Kento's movie show. On Kento's 27th birthday, he got a voice message from Tsuda, saying "It's 27-year-old Nakajima Kento's turn! Draw!!" Kento was ecstatic. He thinks Tsuda is really cool.
Tumblr media
A year after Yu-Gi-oh, he played Inui Sadaharu from Prince of Tennis. The Ikemen (Hot Guys) boom was rising at the time, and Prince of Tennis was at the forefront of this trend. It changed his life dramatically. He was finally able to quit doing part-time jobs. At around 31 years old. He always felt like he was walking a fine line, so it was a relief to have a stable livelihood.
Anecdotes from Kazama Shunsuke, voice actor of Yugi Moto from Yu-Gi-Oh
Tumblr media
Both Tsuda and Kazama Shunsuke, who played the main character of Yu-gi-oh, were newbies at voice acting when they did Yu-gi-oh. Tsuda was still new to voice acting at the time, while Kazama had never done it before. Although they were playing as each other's rivals, they became close since they were both newbies.
Tumblr media
They both didn't have any other work to do, so they had a lot of time on their hands. Kazama would contact Tsuda and ask if he came to work early, and Tsuda would reply, "I'm free right now so I'm lurking nearby." And they'd have tea together. We'd talk about what we could do to be good at voice acting like other VAs.
Kazama talked about how worried he was about Tsuda. When he laughs, Tsuda does it in 3 levels of increasing laughter. At times, he'd even do 5 levels, since the animation would also have 5 different clips as the power of his laughter increases. The 3rd level would be his usual laughter, so Kazama thought Tsuda's blood vessels would burst going beyond that lol
Kazama says he's super happy that Tsuda got to have a lot of regular acting and voice acting jobs. But Kazama just wants people to know that he's been aware of Tsuda's charm for more than 20 years now. A lot earlier than most people have lmao.
On what went on behind of the scenes of a popular scene in JJK:
Tumblr media
Says there's a particular scene that highlights Nanami. He wondered how he'd do it, since that scene was originally in the manga. The producer told him what the mangaka said was Nanami's feelings during that scene, but Tsuda and the staff are free to play it out as they like. The director also told Tsuda to do it the way Tsuda thinks it should be acted. Leave no regrets. Like in the making of the drama Saiai, Tsuda feels that hit series like Jujutsu Kaisen are made with a lot of love from the staff, and this love is reflected in the tiny details. He believes that viewers could really tell from that.
Anecdotes from Namikawa Daisuke, who he's voice acted with in a number of works
Namikawa Daisuke says Tsuda's acting method is something unique to Tsuda. It can't be learned.
Namikawa describes Tsuda as a sloth with a nice voice. Tsuda: LOL. Say something nicer!
Tsuda would just contact him whenever, going, "I want to eat soon."
Namikawa: I'm not your mom!! When I text back, "When are you available?" He doesn't reply. He probably isn't feeling up to it right then. Staff: How long do you have to wait for a reply? Namikawa: At the latest, he leaves me on read.
Tumblr media
In his latest movie My Home Hero, it is Tsuda's first time playing a villain. Said he had fun doing it. He was asked to make the character very quirky, which really pleased him as an actor. Sasaki Kuranosuke would make pleased faces due to the littlest things Tsuda would do, and it really pleases Tsuda in return.
On his family
Tumblr media
Tsuda has 2 kids, a daughter in middle school and a son in grade school. It was his first time talking about his children in a show. Says no one ever asked, so he never had an opportunity to talk about it.
During holidays, Tsuda never answer work calls from his manager. He wants his day offs to be dedicated to playing with his children.
Wakako-san was just fangirling over Tsuda this whole episode lol "Ah, so cute!"
Tsuda talks about how his children won't speak with him if they haven't seen each other for a long period of time, and it makes him feel lonely.
His kids watch anime, and some of them are ones he's in. When he mentions this to his children, they're like, "I know." But they never try to talk to him about it. Tsuda: Why??
His kids love Detective Conan, and Tsuda actually is in the latest movie. (The host, Hayashi Osamu, uses this opportunity to flex and share that he's appeared in a Conon work before too LOL)
Tumblr media
Tsuda says his daughter is a bit eccentric like him. When he asked her what she'd like for her birthday, she asked for a biwa (musical instrument), leaving him very baffled. In the previous years, she asked for a pocket watch, ship in a bottle, kemari (ball from a sport back in ancient Japan) Tsuda: Huh…
Tsuda says that now that the borders between countries are dissolving thanks to the internet and social media, he wants them to strengthen their identity as a Japanese person who lived in Japan by attending lessons for Nohgaku (a traditional style of Japanese theater).
Says experiencing something is also remembering what's tough. How there's a disparity with your imagination and experience. For example, we all know that getting scalded is hot. But actually getting scalded is hotter than you would have imagined.
Tsuda talked about he wasn't an elite. If anything, acting may be the thing he's worst at. But he believes life has consolation matches. (Meaning, even if you fail once doesn't mean you're completely out of the running) Being an early bloomer isn't everything.

Better in the dark - Atsushi Nakajima x gn!reader
Tumblr media
Late nights with you were perfect, but what was even more perfect was when you would decide to stay over.
Atsushi was always surprised whenever you'd agree, ever since Kyouka moved in, he'd slept in the small closet in the bedroom to give her space. He didn't mind it himself, small spaces meant being small himself, small meant being hidden, being hidden meant safety.
But he would always protest when you asked to join him, yeah he could tolerate it but you probably wouldn't like being so cramped in there so you shouldn't really stay in there with him, you deserved batter than a small closet. But you never listened, you'd smile at him softly with drooping eyes and ever so gently tell him that if it meant being with him, you'd tolerate anything.
How could he resist that? God, it felt so good to be wanted and to such an extent you would forsake a decent place to sleep just to curl up next to him...
He felt a bit guilty about it, but his protests lessened the more insistent you got, the fluttering beat of his heart chopping up his thoughts into tiny, unintelligible pieces as you delicately tugged him over to the closet with a yawn.
An hour or so later, you'd be quietly snoring, wrapped around Atsushi and nuzzling your face into his back. He couldn't help but pretend to sleep until you drifted off, to stay up and let his whole mind and being linger on the fact you stayed, you loved him, you were here.
He hadn't been the most comfortable with physical affection for so long, for as long as he could remember he would only feel impending doom whenever anything warm and flesh like touched him. But slowly, after getting to know you and coming to love you, he'd found himself being comforted by the shape of your hand on his shoulder or wrapped around his waist.
So he would stay awake and let your warmth soak into his back as he stared thoughtlessly at the closet door, lost in you and your softness. You were so good to him that he would catch himself why you hadn't left for someone worthier, he felt horribly guilty about doubting you but he had no idea what to do with that feeling.
Once, late at night you had woken up with his head buried in your chest as he clutched you tightly. No light could get in the closet but you didn't need any to feel the way his shoulders shook and two warm patches of tears soaked your shirt.
Slowly, you had snaked a hand up to his hair and gently fussed with the short, soft strands by the nape of his neck. He had flinched and frozen still, but you kept fiddling with his hair and several long seconds later his shoulders relaxed, slowly collapsing into you.
You'd called out to him, asked him if he was okay, and he swore the sound of your voice could cure every headache in the world for the rest of forever. He didn't respond though, too consumed with tiredness and the niggling worry that wouldn't leave his head.
He pulled himself up and buried his face in your neck, losing himself to your sluggish, sleep addled pulse grateful that you didn't push because he didn't think he could ever find the words to tell you how much he adored you and how much he felt like he didn't deserve to.
Still, your lips against the crown of his head felt like salvation and your soft, loving coos were transcendental. In the closet he called a bed he was a guilty worshipper, clinging to you and you would never dream of pushing him off.
Your arms cradled him with as much care as you could summon, you'd always been vaguely aware of how much self-loathing he concealed and it had only ever made you more adamant to stay, to lavish him with as much affection as he'd allow until one day that loathing started to fade and beyond.
Here in the closet, swallowed by blankets you curl into each other, quietly binding yourselves to each other with silent vows as you fall back asleep.

Words of the Reaper
(Or the ending of Beast but Atsushi is absolutely fucking done.)
There was a silence as Dazai, Port Mafia Boss or "The Man in Black" as Akutugawa called him, finished his monologue.
Akutugawa was confused, so much of this didn't make sense. Could a book like this even be exist? He was about to voice his disbelief, when someone beat him to the punch.
"All of this, was because of that fucking book?!"
Akutagawa jumped in suprise, looking at Atsushi. Atsushi Nakajima also known as the Port Mafia's White Reaper, stood beside Akutugawa. And was staring at his boss (ex boss?) with nothing but anger.
It caught Akutugawa off guard. Despite his profession Atsushi was quite kind. Akutugawa knew the sweet kid he'd met at the cafe hadn't been a facade in the slightest.
But right here and now, Atsushi looked like exactly like the man his moniker represented.
Akutagawa noted he wasn't the only one suprised. Dazai himself seemed to have been completly caught off guard.
Akutugawa felt a bit of satisfaction at that, seeing the Man in Black's confusion at his subordinates anger aimed at him.
No, not anger.
Akutagawa had seen just a glimpse of Atsushi's anger. But it looked nothing like this. This was like watching fire itself burst to life.
He was livid.
"You know about the book?" Asked Dazai, trying to regain his composure. But even he couldn't mask the suprise in his voice. This wasn't what he expected at all.
And quite frankly it was jarring to see Atsushi like this. Atsushi who had only ever disobeyed him once, who was as meek as a kitten in his presence. Now glaring at him with the rage of a tiger.
If it wasn't directed at him, Dazai would've been quite proud.
"Of course I do! What, did your other self not tell you?! I'm it's fucking guide!" Asked Atsushi, eyes blazing.
Akutugawa looked at him confused but didn't ask. Probably because he didn't want Atsushi's wrath aimed at him.
See, Dazai had known.
It had just maybe not occurred to him that his Atsushi was aware of it. Apparently he had been very wrong about that. "And you didn't think to bring that up?" He asked, not bringing up his own mistake.
Atsushi of course saw right through him and looked unimpressed.
"Oh jee, maybe because you've never bought the book up, ever! How was I supposed to know you knew about it?!" Said Atsushi, the sarcasm in his voice practically tangible.
Well at least he'd stopped swearing at him. As much as Dazai would love to blame that on Chuuya's influence. He knew better. It was just rare for Atsushi to ever get this angry.
"I suppose you're right on that one. However, that doesn't answer why you're so angry at me Atsushi?" Sue him, Dazai was curious as to what he'd done to earn his mentees ire. Atsushi simply rolled his eyes, but Dazai wasn't having it.
"Atsushi" he said warningly, but Atsushi completly ignores it. He hisses, glaring at him once again. "No, no you don't get to Atsushi me. Punish me later if you wish and I'll take it.
But you don't get to dump all of this information on us and than try to swan dive off the fucking building."
His gaze was cold and piercing. But Dazai saw through his anger. He saw the saddness and the fear in Atsushi's eyes. And suddenly he felt like the biggest idiot around.
Of course, of course Atsushi was broken up about him trying to kill himself.
Atsushi cared about him, that much was obvious. Of course this whole thing had him rattled, it made Dazai soften at the realisation.
Atsushi took a deep breath, letting his anger fade.
"Dazai... Are you high?"
Nevermind, that softness vanished and was replaced with confusion. "High?" Repeated Dazai, confused. Why would Atsushi think he was high?
He hadn't come to work high before... Okay apart from that one time but still.
Atsushi nods, completly serious. "Now why would think think that?" Asked Dazai. "You're usually a lot more methodical than this. Your plans calculated and well thought out, so I can only assume you've taken some kind of substance." Explains Atsushi.
Dazai wasn't sure if he should feel insulted or complimented... Both, he settled on both. He ignored Akutugawa trying and failing to hide his laughter in his sleeve.
"Atsushi, I assure you I am sober." Says Dazai and Atsushi seemed to relax a little at that. Before the anger came rushing back. "Than what the fuck were you thinking?!" Yells Atsushi.
And the swearing was back.
"Do you have any idea what you're doing? The world isn't going to fucking cave in because more than 2 people know of the book.
If these threats are the ones you speak off, they fucking know. And they've known for a long time, the universe is fine." Atsushi rubs his head, like he's dealing with a misbehaving child and not the Port Mafia Boss.
"Akutugawa" Akutugawa turns to Atsushi, prepared to feel the wrath of the White Reaper. But Atsushi suprises him again by sighing softly.
"I apologise for the actions of my mentor. He means well but he doesn't think how his actions affect others. I know simple words will not fix the pain he's caused. I am sorry for hurting you on his behalf, I will talk to Gin. And once again I am so sorry."
Akutagawa nods slowly "you're right, words will not fix this. You can't apologise for something you're not responsible for. You were just following orders, I don't blame you, just your Boss. And... Thank you."
Atsushi nods, smiling and to his suprise Akutugawa gives a small smile back.
Atsushi notices Dazai starting to tip toeing away from them. He grabs the the back of his coat, stopping him. "Not so fast, I'm not done with you." Says Atsushi and Dazai huffs, much like a child.
"But Atsushi" he whines but his mentee merely stares at him, unwavering.
"I am not leaving the Port Mafia... You may have picked me simply to be your pawn, and that's fine with me. But this is my home, and I refuse to leave it. That is my choice." Says Atsushi, he's not looking at Dazai now.
Tears are in his eyes and Dazai feels himself soften again. He knows he's done wrong by Atsushi. He wasn't a kind man, that much was obvious. But he cared for Atsushi dearly.
He knows that he should tell the kid to leave. But he can't because he knows Atsushi. Knows Atsushi has been abandoned by everyone. It dawns on him that Atsushi was afraid he was abandoning him too.
Maybe he wasn't as sober as he thought he was. This wasn't usually something he'd miss. Or maybe it took being about to kill himself infront of Atsushi to realise that.
How did he get so lucky picking such a good kid.
Dazai wraps an arm around him. "I know, I'm sorry Atsushi." That suprises Atsushi, he didn't think he'd get an apology from Dazai ever.
"I don't appreciate you swearing at me" he smiles, voice gentle in a way to let Atsushi know he won't punish him for it. It's sweet seeing Atsushi duck his head sheepishly.
"But you are right. My plans will have to change. But I will keep you all informed." Atsushi nods "that's all I ask, Boss."
Akutugawa glares at Dazai but he also nods. He doesn't appreciate being roped into this, but he'll figure it out. The Agency won't leave him to fight this fight alone. And Akutugawa knows Atsushi will be a formidable ally.
Atsushi let's Dazai go and he straightens up. "Atsushi, escort the Agency members out the building. We can hold a joint meeting at some point to discuss this."
He looks at Akutugawa "because I'm sure you're going to tell them everything?"
It's rhetorical but Akutugawa nods anyway. Dazai sighs. "thought so. Ah well, I trust that Atsushi knows best." He pats Atsushi's head "I'll be waiting for you in the Archive area, given that's still intact."
Atsushi smiles "alright, I'll see you than. But you might want to get moving." Dazai tilts his head "hm? Why?"
The smile on Atsushi's face turns into a smirk. He pulls out his phone from inside his coat and shows it to Dazai. Who goes horribly pale seeing the ongoing call...
... To Chuuya.
"... Atsushi how long?" Asks Dazai, quietly. "The whole time. I got worried because you were acting off. So I called Chuuya ahead of time to listen in, just to make sure you were okay."
At that all the blood drains from Dazai's face. "... He heard everything didn't he?" Atsushi nods, not even trying to hide his amusement. "Yup, you might wanna move. He'll be here any second." He pats his bosses shoulder in mock sympathy.
Before taking Akutugawa's hand and running down stairs. They are barely down the stairs before a high pitched scream echos through the building.
"DAZAI!"
"He's on the roof, Chuuya." Calls out Atsushi, ignoring Dazai's loud hush. "Thanks kid! I owe you one!" Calls Chuuya, somehow managing to hear him over the chaos.
"Is he... Gonna be okay?" Asks Akutugawa, not that he cares for the wellbeing for the Man in Black.
But he is curious.
Atsushi chuckles "Oh he'll be fine, Chuuya won't kill him. Maybe?" He shrugs "ah well, let's go find your friends."
Oh yes, Atsushi was absolutely going to be a formidable ally.

amnesia fics have no right to be so good
i love amnesia fics in general but i love the fun silly wholesome ones where one of the ship wakes up married or whatever and the other ship is desperately tripping over their feet trying to make the first one comfortable and yeah
sskk my beloved fic where atsushi gets amnesia and akutagawa is desperately trying to make atsushi as comfy as possible like atsushi comes to their apartment and is like "oh which room is mine" and akutagawa stares wide eyed like "oh that um we share" and then atsushi gets to the room and is like "wait where's my bed" becuz he's a silly little confused guy and akutagawa is like uhhh
and atsushi is like where are my clothes most of these look rlly expensive and aku has to explain that he has 0 self control and if atsushi as much as glances at something aku buys it for him
but also akutagawa losing his memory and atsushi having to take care of him
akutagawa is used to sharing his apartment but with his sister not this strange white haired man who looks at him like he's everything
anyway
he's hella confused but becuz he never thought he'd be in a relationship and yeah
atsushi is also doing anything and everything to make him comfy
akutagawa is awkwardly standing there watching atsushi dote on him, confused and surprised at the ease atsushi handles him with = how atsushi has blended into his routines and yeah
like i know the potential for it to be sad is there but i like the wholesome ness of amnesia fics jadksf
also the humor of one of them reaching into/seeing things of the more intimate sides of their relationship
"um akutagawa-san... why do we have a bag of girl... um private clothes..."
akutagawa, immediately grabbing and hiding it "you are seeing things!"
/
"akutagawa-san... um if we're dating.... does that mean we...."
"we....?"
"we... um kiss???"
/
"akutagawa-san whats in that box under the bed?"
akutagawa, panicking: guns
/
"akutagawa-san why do u have venue pamphlets"
"...work project"
/
i feel like aku wouldn't ask questions like that like he'd be more aware that if theyre dating they might be cough intimate and even if he did he isnt really the type to ask questions as much as the type to try and figure it out all on his own but itd be funny if he did
anyway he'd still get confused by well atsushi being in love with him (atsushi would too btw i just didn't write that)
"nakajima, why are you staring at me?"
"hmmm? oh it's been a while since ive seen you wear so many layers at home. it's cute."
"hafkjsdf????"
/
"nakajima, why did you give me this for breakfast?"
"it's your favorite???"
/
"nakajima... that shirt... i've bought it already... why are you wearing it?"
"becuz i like wearing your clothes :D"
yeah
anyway
hows friday going for yall

BSD MEN!
↳ WITH A LOVER WHO ALWAYS GETS HYPER WHEN THEY CONSUME SWEETS AND/OR COFFEE.
𝐖𝐀𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆𝐒... nothing much, just fluff and can be read as gn!reader. Mori Ougai.
𝐍𝐎𝐓𝐄... slight self-indulge because I get all hyper when I drink coffee, mwahahahaha.
BSD MASTERLIST.
Tumblr media
𝐇𝐄’𝐒 𝐓𝐑𝐘𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐇𝐈𝐒 𝐁𝐄𝐒𝐓 𝐓𝐎 𝐂𝐀𝐋𝐌 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐃𝐎𝐖𝐍; because he can’t handle your hyper ass. Although, you get too affectionates and he loves your sudden kisses on his cheek and the corner of your lips and the random back and side hugs felt lovely — your hyper awareness is just too much for him especially when you’re prancing around too much and playing harmless pranks like a kid or when your sudden mood changes from giggling to laughing into smallest things; it’s cute — you’re so cute, really and in all honesty, but he’s just too worried that you might hurt yourself or jab your thighs on the edge of a table.
Kunikida Doppo, Fukuzawa Yukichi, Sagakuchi Ango, Mori Ougai (ew), Oda Sakunosuke, Nakajima Atsushi, Nakahara Chuuya, Tachihara Michizō —
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
𝐇𝐄’𝐒 𝐌𝐀𝐓𝐂𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐘𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐄𝐍𝐄𝐑𝐆𝐘; as much as how hyper you are when you consume even little sweets or coffee, he’s running around and prancing with you, pinching your cheeks and biting your skin the same way you always do first.

𝐇𝐄 𝐀𝐋𝐖𝐀𝐘𝐒 𝐇𝐀𝐒 𝐒𝐖𝐄𝐄𝐓𝐒 𝐎𝐍 𝐇𝐈𝐒 𝐏𝐎𝐂𝐊𝐄𝐓𝐒 𝐎𝐍 𝐃𝐀𝐈𝐋𝐘 𝐎𝐂𝐂𝐀𝐒𝐒𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐒; especially when you’re feeling a bit down or not in a mood; he always have an extra sweets on his pockets, or he’ll make you a coffee to cheer you up. Especially, if you’re easily drained within the end of the day (or not even, just like me), he occasionally holds your hand which quite confuses you, until you found some candy on your palm which makes you smile as you munch down and he’s now contently staring at you with adornment and fascination when your energy charged full.
Dazai Osamu, Nakahara Chuuya, Edgar Allan Poe, Akutagawa Ryuunosuke, Nakajima Atsushi, Mushitarou Oguri, Suehiro Tetchōu —
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
𝐇𝐄’𝐒 𝐒𝐎 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐅𝐔𝐒𝐄𝐃; everytime you consume tons of sweets and coffee in just a day where you get all jumpy and enthusiastic, he’s looking at you like you’re some weird creature he calls his lover as he watches you with horrid eyes while you’re going tippy-tappy on walks and you’re clinging, nuzzling and being too sweet with him. But at the end of the day, he secretly enjoys it despite of how much he tried to gently push you  and how he grimace everytime you shower his face with kisses; he enjoys it, actually.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------- ➷ Headcanon➷ ╚» Reader has decided to get new glasses, resulting is some.. comical events ╚» Prompt: "Hey there (reader)- Oh wow you got new glass-.. glasses... AH CRAP-!" ╚» Charcter/s: Dazai Osamu, Atsushi Nakajima Pt. 1 - Dazai Osamu | ft. Kunikida ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- » Dazai Osamu ● Currently the Agency was quiet once Kunikida was calmed down about the fact the bag of bandages was late, another reason he was probably so easily calmed was the fact the (reader) had just gotten a new pair of eye glasses for themselves. ● How does that co-relate to the fact he had calmed down for that reason? ● Well the (reader) seeing as they had new glasses, they were having slight headaches here and there and well.. the added noise made it worse- and well seeing as Kunikida was their friend he had quieted down for them. ● A small time skip later, the late bandaged detective had decided to finally show his face up to the agency. ● Sadly he wasn't exactly aware of the (reader) had gotten new glasses and needed their environment to be quiet for a while- ● So being the dramatic bastard he was- he had to make a grand entrance and immediately this entrance had caught Kunikida's attention. ● Fortunately or well.. unfortunately it seemed the (reader)'s new look with their new glasses on had caught the suicidal maniac's attention making him pause his dramatic entrance. _________________________________________________________ » Scenerio
The agency was it's usual quiet yet busy self this morning, right now everyone was basically doing their own thing and getting their own work done. It was quite a calm morning today actually-.. if you disregarded a certain blonde's soft cursing as his work partner was once again.. late as usual. Though asides from that- everything seemed to be as normal as ever. Although the (reader) did get new glasses, as after a certain mission- their vision was slightly, well to put it short broken. And they didn't want to go through doctor Yosano's treatment just for that... cause.. hah.. They had decided to just consult an optometrists and they had suggested to just get glasses, so they did just that. And well.. it was okay, granted the killer headache they were having because of it slightly sucked- But you do what you gotta do, besides at least their vision was a lot better now with the glasses and all. It was probably late afternoon, which was around 1 to 2 pm, by the time Dazai Osamu. (Kunikida's late partner and the well known suicidal maniac in the agency) Had decided to show up for work finally, to probably just end up laying on one of the couches and do nothing again for the entire day- then again, it was to be expected. This was Dazai after all. And of course, he just had to make his dramatic entrance- he was after all the Dazai Osamu. With that being said, a loud slam of a door would be heard once the brown haired detective entered the agency's office a bright smile on his face as always. "Good morning everyone!~" A crack of a pen was then heard. "DAZAI-!!! YOU IMBECILE- IT'S 2 IN THE AFTERNOON YOU BANDAGED SQUANDERING MACHINE..!"
They would go back and fourth for a while- before Dazai's eyes would catch the (reader)'s making him pause with his bicker with Kunikida for a while..
Their mouth slightly hanging open as he saw the fact they had new glasses on- as he'd ignore Kunikida's scolding. He was just ultimately told to just sit on his desk and do his work.
And for once in his life, Dazai just nodded quietly before heading over.. still, the male was slightly surprised and more or less also charmed at (reader)'s new look-
So much so that as he was about to head over to his desk he had accidentally bumped into a wall on the way.
'SMACK'
"Ow-! Ah.. damn it.." The bandaged detective would curse as he'd back away from the wall he just bumped into.
Walking over to his desk again- before he felt someone take his face into their hands, and that someone was no other than the (reader).
"Woah, you okay there bandages?" Their eyes would be seen filled with concern over their friend.
Seeing as they had just collided into the wall like that- they had a good feeling that hurt, a lot.
"Ah is my belladonna worried about me?~" And as per usual, Dazai was once again making light of a somewhat serious situation.
Making the (reader) roll their eyes at them as they'd gently check the male's face for any injuries, clearly not seeing how their brown eyes would observe them so closely.. or how their eyes were softening as they'd check over them so worriedly.
"Always gotta keep that charm of yours up huh..?"
Dazai just chuckled at their words, as he'd subconsciously leaned closer into their hands smiling softly at them.
"You look pretty with your new glasses on.."
A pause.
"Ah.. really..?" (Reader) would flush slightly at the taller male's comment clearly not expecting that.
"Thank you.."
All the whilst the suicidal maniac just smiled at their flushed face, chuckling softly.
"I should be the one thanking you~ Your beauty is so blinding it had blinded me for a second and I had bumped into a wall!~"
"Dazai shut up..!"
Let's just say, he had a fun time teasing the (reader) about that throughout the entire day. But of course he'd tone it down for their sake as they would mention how loud noises were causing the headache they had currently because of the new glasses worsen because of it.
So in summary, Dazai basically would tease the hell out of you but at the same time care for you and tone it down for your sake seeing as again, the headache and all.
But that wouldn't stop him from complimenting you of course~

. ˑ ༉‧ ₊ ˚ ⠀ ꒰ ᵃᵏᵘᵗᵃᵍᵃʷᵃ ᶜᵃʳᵉˢˀ ꒱ pt. 1
Tumblr media
He's so dense, sometimes. It's really quite annoying — his lack of sense and tact. Akutagawa Ryuunosuke could not count how many times he wanted to kill that stupid weretiger. There were simply too many times. He had made it his whole entire deal to kill him — or, so he said. But, as one should be aware, humans often say the opposite of what they mean. Akutagawa was no different. He too, was human, despite being reduced to nothing more than a lap dog for the Port Mafia.         But, that's not what this is about. Akutagawa is currently staring down an imbecile, namely, Nakajima Atsushi, who has asked one of the dumbest questions he's asked yet — a feat Akutagawa truly hadn't thought possible until it had happened just then.         "You don't care about anything, do you?"
It could have been a slip of the tongue. No, in all honesty, it probably was that stupid weretiger's dumb brain to mouth filter failing him once again, but Akutagawa didn't care. That dumbass had what came next coming for him. He'd been asking for this for a long while, now.         The punch was solid and landed right where he wanted it to, right in the stomach. Due to his body being weak, Akutagawa had used common sense and reinforced his fist with Rashoumon. It had to have hurt — only, Akutagawa wasn't sure. After all, his opponent was a damn weretiger. Fucker self regenerated quickly, so really, how much damage could he do to him? It was so frustrating. Akutagawa could never compare. That man had said so, and it was so obvious, as well. Even to his own eyes, he could see it.         But, he did not accept it. "I care about a great deal," he hissed, making an attempt to land a kick on the smaller target's torso, missing due to said target rolling on the ground to avoid it, coming right back up. Ah, he must have been training. Getting stronger already, it wasn't fair. This simpleton knew nothing of what Akutagawa had gone through, knew nothing of suffering, of what caring actually was, nor pain (yes, Akutagawa knows this is simply not true, but his angry narrative doesn't look at the facts). He knew nothing, because he was stupid. An idiot. The absolute worst. He lived in the light, a place Akutagawa could never go.         The jinko goes for a punch, which Akutagawa avoids, but it was a farce. His other fist catches his back, and it fucking hurts. No, not just the pain. It hurts his pride. His pride is wounded. His character has been put into question, despite the self absorbed main character's hideous efforts (what else is the weretiger, but the main character of the story? That's how this is. The weretiger is the main character. Akutagawa is simply his antagonistic force, propelling him further into the light while he himself is forced to bite the dust).         Akutagawa is not one who normally goes for any sort of hand to hand combat. His ability is suitable for long ranged attacks. He is safer when his target is far away, but emotions have piled up too high for him to do what is fully smart. He is angry. No, anger is too soft a word. Enraged. Utterly brimming past his limit with wrath.         They exchange a series of blows that probably leave Akutagawa more wounded than the jinko, which is cause enough to feel bitter, but there is something refreshing as well? No words have been exchanged for some time. It is just the two of them in an abandoned alleyway, beating the actual living crap put of one another. Wild abandon. Akutagawa can feel his lungs dying. He does not care. No, he doesn't. Yes, he does. He doesn't care if he dies. Yes, he does.

A Sin in Two Parts (First Part)
Tumblr media
✏ Fandom: Bungou Stray Dogs ✏ Characters: Nakajima Atsushi, Dazai Osamu, Armed Detective Agency ✏ Word count: 4,350 ✏ Warnings: someone will die! of shame!
There were many things Nakajima Atsushi had trouble understanding at first glance. For one, he had trouble wrapping his head around his own power. Power he wasn’t even aware of until a series of tumultuous events. He possessed a supernatural power to transform into a tiger. Not something he could control or remember at first but that’s what he was now. An ability-user.
Ability-users. Another thing Atsushi didn’t understand was Armed Detective Agency. Beneficial as it was, it felt out of place. He didn’t understand why Dazai would be so insistent on Atsushi’s candidacy. His supernatural power was outside of his control. Not to mention that Nakajima was simply an outsider, an unwanted presence wherever he ended up in. And, despite the man-eating tiger incident, own incompetence and cowardice, he was accepted. That’s where he belonged now.
The other thing Nakajima didn’t understand was his mentor. A suicide-obsessed, self-important, facetious, whimsical, bandaged man who… Atsushi had trouble admitting this to himself. But something about Dazai’s nature wasn’t quite right. He still was facetious, whimsical, and suicide-obsessed, but there was a little more than that. There was something behind the nature of his superior that Nakajima often found almost… dark. It wasn’t the humor or obsession with death, it was more akin to another shadow that followed his mentor. Like when Atsushi believed the tiger followed him. It’s the same kind of feeling. That, on occasion, something is a little out of place, something that shouldn’t be is present. The first time he felt that was when Dazai was persuading him into joining the agency permanently. That was, as Atsushi found out later, blackmail more than persuasion.
Then there was another matter Atsushi didn’t understand about his mentor…
That person. Dazai’s partner. No, not partner. Dazai’s partner was Kunikida. But also, that person was definitely Dazai’s partner. What word should he use to describe them? Hm, there were many words that would define that person and their relationship to Dazai. But the words only ever came close.
Tumblr media
Atsushi sat on the chair still clutching the fake bomb close to his chest. This must have been the scariest, most bone-chilling experience of his life. A bomber, an innocent hostage. And him, throwing himself on the bomb without thinking. Why did he do that? He knew he wanted to live. He desperately clung to the feeling of air in his lungs despite the misfortune, the hunger, the desperation. Why then?
“We can’t force you to join,” Dazai said, sounding rather accepting of the situation, “but then I can’t help but worry for your future. You’ll need to vacate the room company got for you, and you don’t have any special skills, or friends in the city, so job will be hard to come by. Not to mention—"
Honestly, Atsushi was half-listening at this point as his brain started to get overwhelmed with information. He had to start fretting about his future not because of having to worry about shelter or food, but because of his newly discovered ability.
“…shot dead.”
“Shot dead?!” Nakajima screeched, leaning forward. Surely that would be too much, wouldn’t be? Shot dead. Shot. Dead. No one argued Dazai’s words.
“Now, if you were with our agency, that would be a different story,” the bandaged man offered a signature smug smile.
“Then that means…” Atsushi gripped the bomb tighter, closer, and fell against the back of the chair.
The girl introduced previously as Naomi spoke first.” We look forward to working with you, Atsushi!” She threw her hands around the boy at her side in a fierce hug. “Don’t we, brother?”
“Follow the rules, brat,” Kunikida added flippantly.
Dazai took the reigns of the conversation again, “Well, not that the matter was settled—”
The door to the office opened with a swing as a new person entered the office. “Is the newbie here already?” they asked, excited. And the limelight seemed to shift as Nakajima couldn’t feel as many eyes on him.
Newbie in question remained silent, stupefied by the suddenness of it all. His eyes and mind registered the new person present but his mind turned inwards to process everything that just happened. He was still processing the fact that he was walking a very thin line of not being alive anymore. Being on the brink of starvation, Dazai, Kunikida, his new-found ability, and the recent test.
“Ah, you are just in time,” Dazai welcomed the newcomer with warm familiarity.
Atsushi was finally pulled out of his stupor of self-absorption and truly looked at the new person. Some people just have a certain energy about them, certain charisma that just overflows from their entire being. This was one such case. The atmosphere suddenly felt familiar, warm, calm. The time itself seemed to slow down. Or maybe it was because the boy finally started to breathe without overwhelming anxiety, without the pressure of having so many eyes on him.
“Meet the newbie, Ryōshi,” amusement heard in the man’s voice as he extended his bandaged hand to them. “We’ve just finished his employment paperwork.”
“Yeah, no,” Ryōshi shook their head, “I was standing behind the door for a few minutes now,” they lightly slapped the open palm offered, but the bandaged hand trapped their fingers between his, “I know that was more of a blackmail than employment negotiation.”
“It was nothing but negotiation, right, Atsushi?” Dazai looked at him again. Their odd handholding continued for a few more moments before finally be done and over. The boy-tiger felt the hardness of the fake bomb against his ribs as he breathed in.
“Hi,” the person spoke again with a soft smile. They introduced themselves first.
“I’m Nakajima Atsushi,” he spoke, sounding dumb even to his own ears.
“You have a lucky name, Nakajima Atsushi.”
“How?” Inside, the boy felt mortified, embarrassed. It didn’t help how Kunikida threw him a glance that asked if he was an idiot. It was just a compliment, take it, show gratitude. But that shame quickly died as a wide smile bloomed on their face. Atsushi felt something blooming too, inside his chest, beautifully and calmly. It wasn’t anxiety, it wasn’t pressure, it was something else. Something he couldn’t identify yet. But the boy had no doubt this feeling had everything to do with the person speaking to him now.
“Well, someone chose that name for you, and you are alive and here now, so, of course, it’s a lucky name!”
Oh, Atsushi thought, they are insane. Of course, they were insane.
They offered a handshake, “You can call me Fisher, everyone does.”
He shook their hand, “Why?”
“I am very good at it, of course.”
Atsushi didn’t understand that part. He will come to learn he didn’t understand many things about this person. What he also didn’t understand at that moment was the smile on his superior’s face. It wasn’t smug or devious or dubious. Dazai’s smile was full of fondness. At first, Atsushi truly didn’t understand.
Tumblr media
“Beautiful!” Dazai proclaimed as he fell on one knee before a blonde woman. She didn’t say anything, but whether it was because she was charmed or confused was up for debate.
The person who stood behind his chair brushed a hand pleasantly against his hair, and Atsushi’s naturally turned around to look. It was Ryōshi. For someone who had such a natural magnetism, this was the first time he watched it dissipate without a trace. With a finger snap, they blended with the walls and furniture, leaving nothing of that overwhelming presence. Nakajima didn’t understand. He wondered if they were alright.
“You are a lady as beautiful and ephemeral as a lotus flower,” Dazai continued his heartfelt speech as his hand held hers. Atsushi cringed internally. “Would you be willing to join me in a double suici—”
Of course. It was, after all, Dazai. Kunikida shoved the bandaged man off the woman with reckless force. The woman showed a small reaction of surprise.
“Apologies for the distraction,” Kunikida said rather impassively. He grabbed his suicidal partner by the collar and dragged him out of the room. “Please, don’t mind us and continue.” The door closed behind him.
Only Dazai knows for sure what happened behind that door. Everyone else could only guess based on the auditory clues.
Tumblr media
He opened his eyes to a white ceiling. He’d feel vomit if only his stomach wasn’t so empty. The fear. He could remember the fear so vividly, so sharply. It was a sharp and polished blade nested in his guts. What was he fearing again?
“What happened? Where am I?” he mumbled in confusion. His throat was dry, but nothing hurt. And a gentle hand touched his. The touch felt oddly familiar.
“So, you finally come to?” a man’s voice asked. That touch was gone now.
“Kunikida,” Atsushi whispered, calmed by the recognizable presence. He was alive and with Kunikida, everything was alright then.
“And I,” Ryōshi spoke up. Atsushi saw a hand come down from above and towards his head. Warm palm placed on his forehead. This calming touch. That’s who was holding his hand. “You really must be lucky,” they whispered.
“Can’t believe you pulled that stunt,” Doppo interrupted firmly. “And at such time, too.”
“I’m not lucky, I was attacked by the mafia…” The boy mumbled absentmindedly. The memory of the fight engulfed his mind. Gunshots, Naomi, blood, Tanizaki, blood, Akutagawa, and the searing pain in his leg. More blood. The smell of it mixed with the smell of a back alley and gunpowder.
He shot up from his bed, startling Fisher. “I remember!” He did. The searing pain in his leg came a moment too late as Rashomon took it clean off. “Are Junichi and Naomi alright?!”
“Just calm down,” Kunikida replied evenly, calmly. It was infectious. “They are both okay.”
Atsushi breathed. “Are you sure?”
A scream was heard from the other room. It wasn’t a scream of fear but of pain. Then it morphed into moans of pain, then whimpers and whines.
“Hear that? Dr. Yosano is treating Tanizaki as we speak, you have nothing to fear, Atsushi,” Ryōshi assured him.
“That’s medical treatment?”
“I’m telling you, you are lucky, kid.”
“Atsushi,” Kunikida chimed in once again, stern and calm as before, “I heard a rumor.”
No, Nakajima Atsushi was anything but lucky. He had a seven-billion-yen bounty on his head on the black market, and that’s why Port Mafia was after him. That’s why Tanizaki and Naomi were in danger. Nakajima Atsushi was anything but lucky.
Tumblr media
Atsushi covered the flights of stairs in a breath. Why would this happen? He left the Agency, so the worst-case scenario shouldn’t be happening! He had to stop this! No one in the Agency should be responsible and harmed for his existence, for his worthless, unfortunate, burdensome life! No one should be harmed because of him AGAIN. Not Tanizaki, not Naomi, not the gentle person who held his hand while he was in the infirmary. No one would come to harm because of Nakajima Atsushi’s misfortune ever again.
“Stop!” he shouted as he entered the office. It lacked a door already. The walls were covered in bullet holes, windows without glass. Papers scattered on the floor, woodchips, misplaces furniture and…Ryōshi sitting on the table next to Ranpo. They flashed him a winning smile. Atsushi didn’t understand.
The Agency’s most idealistic man was subduing someone on the floor. “So, you finally came back, kid?!” Doppo was positively angry. “Ugh, this is exactly why I hate raids,” he said, standing up and starting to write down in the notebook. “They really mess up our budget planning.” Kunikida went on about the spending on repairs. Nakajima barely understood.
“Using machine guns was really over the top,” Dr. Yosano agreed. “It’s your turn to go around the neighborhood with gifts and apologies.”
“Fisher!”
“Why me?” they pouted, jumping off the table. “It’s your turn, and I literally just saved you from being a target practice for a machine gun!”
“You lost the bet,” the man replied. “The brat ran away.” Atsushi was graced with a judgemental look.
“But he came back!”
“To come back he had to run away first.”
“Damn it, okay, fine,” they puffed, “between you and I, I am the one with a winning smile.”
“Maybe with you going around the neighbourhood it is indeed the worst-case scenario,” the man bit back.
“What?” Atsushi couldn’t take it anymore. He didn’t understand what was happening. Well, he sort of understood what happened. Port Mafia tried to raid the office and somehow, for some unknown god’s miracle, ADA came out on top. The bullet holes in the walls formed many constellations, machine guns were laying on the floor like debris, knocked-out mafia goons were laying on the floor, but… Every member of the agency was standing upright and doing just fine. More than fine, actually.
Port Mafia wasn’t much compared to Detective Agency. Outside of Akutagawa, of course, but even then, Dazai-san…
Lost in his thoughts, he blanked out on Kenji throwing Port Mafia goons out of the window, followed by polite goodbyes.
“Hey, brat, help out with the clean-up!” Kunikida called. “Can’t believe you simply wandered off—”
“Can’t believe?” Fisher gasped. “You bet against him!”
“You’re the one who started it!”
“I like to test my luck!”
“In the middle of all the commotion,” the man continued as if the previous interruption didn’t happen. “You are a member of the Armed Detective Agency,” he wrote something down in the notebook again, “you should always be thinking about what you can do. Well, helping with a clean-up is about all you can do.”
That’s what Kunikida-san meant by thinking about what he could do? That’s what he meant? Thinking about actions that would actively help out instead of indirectly asking him to leave? His perception of his superior blurred. Literally. The figures and colours blurred together. And Atsushi felt a broken laugh bubble up in his throat.
Through clenched teeth, Doppo spoke, “Brat, if you have time to laugh—”
“Easy, Kunikida,” Ryōshi reprimanded.
This person came to his defense. This person defended Nakajima Atsushi who recently tried to run away. Those broken laughs tore through his throat. A warm and gentle hand ruffled his hair. This was so unfair. Such unfair treatment.
“Why would I—? Are you crying?” The last part made Kunikida sound almost offended. Nakajima collected himself immediately.
He turned around and wiped wet stains on his cheeks. “I’m not crying!” the boy lied.
“Yeah, you are.” A man half as observant as Kunikida wouldn’t buy such a pathetic lie.
Atsushi sniffled and rubbed his eyes again. “I am not.” This time he sounded more confident.
“Pfff! Ahahah!” Ryōshi started to laugh. Their laugh didn’t die down as their colleague started to drill into the newbie.
Tumblr media
Atsushi was following Dazai as they were supposed to help Ranpo back to the Agency after solving the case. Today was…well, it surely wasn’t an ordinary day. Lately, no day was an ordinary one for Nakajima. After joining the Agency, life was surely eventful. And today was his second official job assignment. It went much smoother.
“I get it now,” Atsushi said, contemplative. “Ranpo doesn’t have an ability, but everyone else does, right?” His superior only hummed in agreement. “Then, do you know what Ryōshi’s ability is? Can I know what it is?”
“Oh?” Dazai flashed a grin. “Why the sudden interest in my partner?”
“I thought Kunikida was your partner,” the boy replied, confused.
“Kunikida is my partner, but Ryōshi is…” the man thought for a moment. A smile appeared on his lips, growing wider and winder. “Haha! Nevermind!” he shook his head, still smiling. “Anyway, yes, I do know their ability, and, no, there is no reason you can’t know. You are a member of the Agency, after all.”
“What it is?” Perhaps he sounded a little too excited. And, of course, it didn’t escape his mentor.
“Probability manipulation,” Dazai answered, indifferent. “Or, simply put, luck is their ability.”
“Huh?”
“What, don’t get it? Ryōshi manipulates probability. The odds are ever in their favour. Imagine a deck of cards, shuffled between you, me, and Ryōshi. They would be the one with a royal flush, every time.”
“Woah. That’s…That seems like a very powerful ability. In a casino, especially.”
Dazai shrugged. “Luck is zero-sum. Once Ryōshi draws a royal flush, all other bad cards must go into someone else’s hands.”
Atsushi stopped in his tracks. “What?”
The man stopped two steps ahead of him. “Exactly as you heard it. When Ryōshi gets lucky, it always means someone has to receive a dose of bad luck. Zero-sum, equivalent exchange.”
“Why would someone like Ryōshi be in the Agency?” With such ability, any door was open for Fisher. So why stick to a detective agency? No, Atsushi was lying to himself. He simply wanted to know more about this person.
“Protection,” the man replied. “Such an ability could be viewed as highly beneficial by many powerful people who would like to have even more power. Politicians, businessmen—”
“Port Mafia?”
The man smiled mischievously, “Alright, I’ve told you quite enough about my Fidus Achates. If you want to know more, ask them yourself.”
Tumblr media
Dazai finally reached out. Apparently, he was captured by the Mafia and managed to escape. Needless to say, some of the agency’s members were a bit skeptical of his story. The moment Dazai showed his face at the office, Fisher asked for a private conversation in the infirmary. That was the first time Atsushi heard the coldness in their voice. The sheer absence of any tangible emotion attached was deafening. The first he heard them speak like that was related to a rather heavy incident. This time was undeniably and solely related to Dazai. Just like that, the two of them were gone behind a closed door.
Atsushi looked at the empty table. Just a minute ago Ryōshi was sitting behind it working on some paperwork. Dazai’s table has been empty for a few days, therefore you’d think the paperwork accumulated on the table. No. They did all of it. Atsushi didn’t know where he stood on Dazai’s story of being captured by the Mafia. But he had no doubt there was one person who believed it completely and unquestionably. But what then were they talking about behind closed doors?
His body moved without him fully processing what he was about to do. He was about to eavesdrop. On his mentor and his… On two of his superiors.
“Where are you going, brat?” Kunikida asked calmly, without looking away from his paperwork. It was a quiet day in Yokohama, and Nakajima learned to appreciate such days. Those were precious days of peace and quiet, of doing office work, in a safe work environment. Perfect for catching up on actual office duties.
“Oh, I…” Atsushi stumbled over his words, awkward and very obviously caught in the act. “I… I…” He himself didn’t quite process what he was about to do. Least of all he thought of how to justify his actions to such a stickler as Kunikida Doppo. It’s not about social propriety to someone like him but about personal privacy. That wasn’t something Kunikida could be moved or persuaded on. That much Atsushi had already learned.
The man pushed the glasses up and shifted his gaze. “Are you trying to eavesdrop on them?” He raised a brow.
The boy was quick to shake his head. “N-no.”
“Yeah, you were,” Kunikida spoke, totally unimpressed with such pathetic and whiny attempts at excuses. “Don’t bother, they are having a fight.”
“Really?” the boy-tiger asked, confused and surprised at the same time. Not a single sound had reached his ears since the two people in question disappeared to have a private conversation. Are they really arguing so quietly? Dazai didn’t strike him as the type. Atsushi found his mentor to have a flair for the dramatic. “I don’t hear anything.”
Kunikida sighed. “You are young. There are more than one way adults can fight.”
“What are they fighting about?”
“Typically or right now?” he asked, tepid. Then his eyes got wide in realization. The man looked as if he just woken up from a dream. “Wait, why am I even telling you this?” his voice grew more frustrated. “You have work to do, brat, get back to it.”
Tumblr media
Once Atsushi pulled himself from what was happening before his eyes, he asked Tanizaki, “Do you happen to know who asked her to come visit the agency?”
“It was me,” the president said. Everyone’s attention was drawn to the voice. But behind the man, Atsushi spotted the familiar figure. They stood behind Fukuzawa, again concealing their presence. And no matter how much Nakajima wanted it, their eyes didn’t meet.
“What’s the status?” Fukuzawa asked.
“Port Mafia’s efforts to erase her identity,” Kunikida answered, “makes it hard for the police to find her.”
“I’m sure they will label her a fugitive soon enough.”
Kyōka stood before the president. She raised her head. “Please, let me stay.”
Atsushi felt proud of her despite understanding how her bold actions were caused by desperation. He awaited the verdict.
“I’ll do anything,” the girl added.
“I don’t recommend it,” Kunikida unexpectedly inserted himself into the conversation. “Not because of your background,” he stood up from his chair, “but for your sake. It’s a difficult life.”
Before he could think through it, Nakajima started to talk, “Besides, if you stay here, Port Mafia will definitely find you. Shouldn’t you run as far away as you can?” Then, he realized what he just said. That’s what he did, didn’t he? Maybe he should have thought this through.
“Akutagawa,” Kyōka lowered her head, “said killing is the only thing I was good for. But he is wrong. I have to prove that… to myself.”
The boy gasped. This girl had more guts and willpower than he did. She was determined and unafraid. He wondered if that was desperation too. But did it matter? He himself was rather desperate when he met Dazai. Kyōka deserved a better life for herself. She deserved a chance to prove her worth to herself.
Atsushi lowered his head in a bow. “President, I’d like to vouch for her.” No immediate response followed. Atsushi remained in a bow.
“Please consider,” Kyōka asked. And again, pleading. And again, almost begging.
“Very well,” the president agreed. “I am considering.” A collective gasp was heard. “I will take you in.”
“As I was saying, president,” Ryōshi spoke up. Atsushi raised his head upon hearing this voice. Their eyes finally met. They offered a kind smile. He felt at peace. As if some weight was lifted off his shoulders. Kyōka was given a chance. She could stay. And he received a gentle smile.
“Yes,” Fukuzawa nodded, “as you were saying.”
“And I didn’t even use my ability,” Fisher added proudly.
“I know.”
“Lunch’s on me, kids!”
And as they said, Ryōshi took them out for lunch. Dazai had joined them there. This time, Dazai was rather temperate. Placid, even. There was no flirting with the waitress, no speeches about beautiful suicide. They sat across the table from each other, and Atsushi watched them closely. It was there again. The smile his mentor showed just once before. Of course, that person was in his line of sight. And behind that person’s eyes, Atsushi witnessed an altogether different sort of gentleness. And a voice inside his head spoke of how much it wanted that.
Tumblr media
All that seemed so long ago now. Yet not much time had passed. So, how would Atsushi describe that person? Kind, gentle, accepting, and caring. They were also strong, independent, honest, and clever. And, more importantly, complicated. As a person, Ryōshi was incredibly complex and — dare the boy to assume it — hurt. The time when Dazai came back to the office after being captured by Port Mafia, that gelid tone of voice still rings inside his head as a hurtful reminder.
A reminder of complex human relationships. Atsushi still struggled with how to label the relationship between his two superiors. Dazai has used all sorts of words towards them. Companion. Partner. Fidus Achates. Confidant. But no, being young and inexperienced as he is, Atsushi can even fool himself into believing those two are in a working partnership or merely good friends. It always lingers in the air between them. Whatever it is. Their complex chemistry, a contract those two had sealed without anyone else knowing, a secret only those two share. It is something unspoken yet understood. At least, it was well-known by the two.
Can you like something you don’t understand?
From the very first moment he witnessed them together, he saw it. The gentle touch of hands, the lingering and yearning caught between their fingers, fragile and oozing. It had to be more than a simple exchange of abilities. It was. And the smile his mentor can never replicate but when he is with them, when they are in his sights.
No one has ever spoken of it. Atsushi was left to conclude that others hadn’t grasped that unspoken and unwritten between the gambler and nullifier, and those who did grasp refuse to speak a word out of respect for their silent and private choices.
“At-su-shi.”
The boy flinches at the sound of his own name. “Yes?”
“You are not eating,” Dazai points at the plate with his chopsticks.
“Ah, sorry,” he mumbles, “not hungry, I guess.” He rubs the back of his neck and avoids eye contact. A disrespectful thing, really. Respecting other people’s choices is easy, but finding any respect for his own is hard. He is dwelling on his private thoughts and unconscious choices. All shameful.
Dazai reached into Atsushi’s plate without asking. “Yen for your thoughts?”
Nakajima makes a fatal mistake of meeting his mentor’s gaze. He doesn’t care about the food being taken off his plate. He thinks it’s the least he can offer to pay for what’s in his heart and mind. That’s the least he can do to redeem his sin of coveting.

Can I ask "If you weren't alone" with Dazai, Kunikida and Atsushi? I give my thanks first!
If you were not alone
Part VIII
Characters: Self-Aware! Dazai Osamu, Self-Aware! Kunikida Doppo, Self-Aware! Atsushi Nakajima
Reader: GN! Adult! Reader
Warning: OOC. English is my second language
📒🐯🪢🦀 It was supposed to be a normal shopping trip. How in the world you, Kunikida, Dazai and Atsushi ended at the base of Mt. Yougou, not far away from Kamisato's Estate?
No, rephrase that. How in the world you ended up in Teyvat?
Before you can discuss, what happened and what to do next, you four heard a booming voice.
"HEY, SHINOBU, LOOK, ALL-CREATOR DECIDED TO VISIT INAZUMA! LET'S GO AND SAY HELLO!"
A familiar oni was running towards you, almost dragging his deputy leader behind him. Ushi wiggled behind them.
Tall oni stopped before you, bowing.
"Greetings, Your Holiness, cool to see you in Inazuma!"
You opened and closed your mouth, not knowing what to say. Was Itto talking to you? Itto looked at you, waiting for your answer. You coughed.
"Um... Thanks for the warm welcome, Itto. How is your Gang doing?"
You have a feeling, that you messed up, despite seeing a huge grin on Itto's face.
Then you caught Shinobu's gaze. She was observing you. An unreadable expression was ob her face. She spoke, facing Itto.
"Boss, why not to prepare lavender melons to Their Holiness and their guards, while I updated them on Gang's businesses?"
Itto's grin became even bigger, and oni, after grabbing Ushi, hurried up to the distance in search for lavender melons.
When Itto get out of sight, Shinobu's gaze became serious again.
"Okay, with Boss out of earshot... Confess, you four, who are you? Creator... didn't care about Boss and our gang."
You, Atsushi, Kunikida and Dazai, after some whispering, decided not to lie.
At the end of your story, Shinobu looked concerned.
"I... I don't know if you believe me... But you four are in big danger."
📒🐯🪢🦀 It Shinobu quite some time to explain the situation to you. Mostly because Itto returned quite quickly and your little group had a small lunch. At the end of it, Atsushi and Dazai because Bro Atsushi and Bro Dazai, and Kunikida and Shinobu get a headache over three lovable idiots.
After lunch, Shinobu managed to send Itto on an onikabuto hunt ("Creator need a perfect onikabuto familiar for them. Boss, you can find the best one for them.")
And Shinobu continue her tale. About Creator and "sinners cleaning rituals". And about the danger you four were in.
Shinobu said, that you four have few days, before wanted posters will be up.
📒🐯🪢🦀 You stay with the Arataki Gang for tonight. And, while you, Atsushi and Kunikida were sleeping, Dazai was planning. He, with Shinobu help for getting "trivia information", was trying to find a way to protect you all.
You woke up early in the morning, say goodbye to Arataki Gang and hurry to Ritou Island.
Luck was on your side, and you four get on a ship to Liyue.
You were far away from Inazuma, when Ei's lightning storms rise again.
📒 Problems started in Liyue. Mililith solders were patrolling The Harbor and looking through every ship. Kunikida prepared flash grenades and dark glasses in advance. You will only have one chance.
In a "storm" of flashing lights, you, Kunikida and Atsushi with sunglasses on and Dazai with a blindfold on escaped from Liyue Harbor.
Kunikida didn't tell you about the gun he created in case of the situation going bad.
🐯 In Sumeru you get very strange protection. Rishboland Tigers, for some reason, loved Atsushi and followed his every command. When Corps of Thirty chased after you, rishboland tigers, with half-transformed Atsushi as their leader, chased them away.
One of the tigers was the one, who found aranaras and called you.
And they were quite happy to see you.
"World Nara are finally here!"
Same day, you four met Nahida.
Dendro Archon explained more about the whole situation. And provided you four with three choices.
1. You can stay in Sumeru and wait for Alice, your only hope to get to the real world, visit this nation again.
2. Hurry to Natlan, where Alice was traveling to.
3. Go to Mondstadt and wait for Alice's arrival. She should be there on Klee's birthday.
You can only choose one. You won't be able to travel from Natlan to Mondstadt in time, and, staying for so long in Sumeru, despite Nahida's assistance, can be dangerous.
📒🐯🦀🪢 A one discussion later, you four decided to go to Mondstadt. And Nahida even find a way for you to safe travel.
With Dehya and Dunyarzad starting rumors about Imposter going to Natlan, Keveh and Alhaitham (who needed to do some job for dendro archon in Mondstadt and get gifts for Creator to the Ivory Throne) will secretly get you four to Mondstadt.
After a tearful goodbye to Nahida and Aranaras, you left Sumeru.
🦀🪢 During the short trip to Mondstadt, you, Dazai, Kunikida, Atsushi, Alhaitham and Kaveh became good friends. And, you discovered, that Teyvat started to listen to your small commands.
(You didn't know, that Nahida and Aranaras were praying to you, making your powers stronger).
After you get to Mondstadt, a waiting game started. You four, with a help of Albedo, who run into you four one day, managed to stay hidden from the Knights of Favonius.
Dazai also brought Primordial Albedo to your camp one day. You didn't know where he found him, or why he decided to bring him to you, but... Now you have your own alchemist.
and you thought, it was Oda's job to took in orphans
And you all became good friends with Klee.
📒🐯🦀🪢You managed to safely stay in Mondstadt, until Alice's arrival. You four got presents from Alice, a thank you for being friends of Klee, and Alice finally got you five (Dazai demand for Prim to go with you) at the Real World. But, before that, she spoke to you.
"Your Holiness... [Y/N]... Monster on the throne... It will destroy Teyvat one day. Please, if you can... Send us help to dethrone them."
You promised to think about it. She asked you to provide your powers for her to transport you five.
_________
🐾 Fukuzawa was worried. Three of his detectives and you were missing. And search parties came back with no results.
Until one day, you four appeared from the portal in the barn (portal remains) with a strange new guy and dags full of fruits. And... Is it planers on your backs?
🐾 Explanation is in order. And then, more planning to come. You have people in Teyvat to help to.

lost kitten
Tumblr media
Summary: Halfway starts with happiness for me
Halfway house, lost kitten in the street
Characters: Ranpo Edogawa & Nakajima Atsushi
(A/N: I don’t own anything from this franchise. Respectful ownership belongs to Metric for this song and Kafka Asagiri for this manga).
Don't say yes if you can't say no
Victim of the system, say it isn't so
Squatted on the doorstep, swollen on the blow
Leaving without you, can't say no
Nothing gets past Ranpo’s keen, chartreuse irises.
So, when his line of sight grazed over Atsushi’s form the next time the other placed the stacked of papers onto his desk with an awkward smile on his lips and a pure sparkle of curiosity pooling around his amethyst eyes, he’s quick to dismissed him as a lanky male with an airheaded disposition and a terrible person who can’t say no to other people even if he doesn’t want to do it.
A doormat with no self-preservation.
Atsushi’s existence wasn’t worth thinking about so he focused on other things.
Even when the other was kidnapped back then he didn’t hold back on his own opinion of questioning the agency’s want of saving him when it’s Atsushi’s fault for falling into that kind of situation in the first place.
Because of his stupid kindness. Naivete. And didn’t have an ounce of self-regard for himself.
Even if Fukuzawa had persuaded him successfully back then to rescue the young lad, a twinge of acerbity pooled within him as he complied with his team’s wishes and successfully rescued him with his great assistance.
Ranpo had tried to dismiss it and paid attention to other important variables of their mission even though numerous emotions had arisen within him which had his mind and heart swam into pools of confoundment.
Halfway starts with happiness for me Halfway house, lost kitten in the street Hit me where it hurts, I'm coming home to lose Kitten on the catwalk, high-heeled shoes
Boarding on the train was a pain in the ass.
There were a lot of things that needed to be considered which always made Ranpo’s mind came into a screeching halt when processing more important information inside his head.
But most of all he hated it when he had to stare at the railway map at the train station like it was an object consisted of alien language.
For all his cleverness and intelligence, he had a terrible spatial awareness when it came to directions.
Most of the time he loathed some missions that required for him to take on the train.
“Ranpo-san…?” Atsushi’s hesitant voice in the background reached his line of hearing and halted his thoughts and concentration.
“Yeah?” He asked noncommittally.
“I already bought some train tickets so we’re good to go…” The other’s voice faltered slightly at the end which caught Ranpo’s attention and turned around to face him.
Ranpo saw the look of hesitation and slight embarrassment coloring the other’s face but what caught more of his attention was the other holding a bottle of—
“Ramune?” He voiced out.
“Oh. Uh, yeah. I figured that you might be bored and probably thirsty from the heat and waiting for too long because of the long lines at the booth. So, this one’s for you Ranpo-san but I’m not sure if you’d want a drink like this—.”
“Open it and give it to me.” Ranpo cut him off lightly.
Atushi blinked at him owlishly before complying to his words and twisted the cap off from the lid. The soft, sizzling sound of the soda permeated his ears as soon as Atsushi opened it and handed it to him.
Ranpo took it in silence and drank from its contents. As the other was mostly self-conscious around him to notice anything else, one of his eyes opened slightly and let his dazzling emerald orbs bored right through the other’s soul.
He guessed that lost kittens had an interesting side after all.
No more hard-headed Saturdays They got it, they want it, they give it away Tell me one thing you would never do I was looking for a hooker when I found you
Ranpo was used to it by now.
The incompetence and inefficiency of the police in this place was something that irked him in the past but he grew mostly out of it and regarded them with a cold indifference and distaste.
But this was one of those days that his backhanded comments and smart aleck remarks had made Ranpo landed himself in hot waters with one of the police officers.
He didn’t look like it but he had a basic knowledge of self-defense techniques from Fukuzawa himself which wasn’t to be trifled either as he was trained by a previous assassin.
Besides Ranpo view the other people who resorted to violence as a retaliation as a lower being than himself as he found them dull and lacking in sharpness in thinking that fists could solve everything.
Ranpo was ready to block out the other’s officer’s incoming fists when someone blocked it already much to his brief surprise.
His eyes grew wide for a moment as he stared at Atsushi’s paws effectively caught the other’s fist and blocked his attack.
“I’d appreciate it if we don’t resort to violence sir. Especially not hitting on Ranpo-san who’s currently lending his hand and skill as a detective in solving this case.” Atsushi’s firm voice rang out.
It was rare to see and hear Atsushi being like that.
He knew that he got some hidden claws but it’s usually overshadowed by his meekness and insecure behavior most of the time.
“Tch. Whatever. Don’t think that both of you are some hotshots just because your talented people.” The officer sneered as he withdrew his fists and walked away grumbling to himself.
And just like that.
Everything went back to normal.
You've got my eyes, you've got my eyes You'll never be mine, ah, but you've got my eyes
“I can defend myself earlier.” Ranpo’s casual voice shattered the deafening silence as they’re both walked back to the train station after Ranpo solved the case at the pier.
Orangey hues spread out through the sky as the sun was already setting down in the late afternoon.
“I know Ranpo-san… But deducing something from a complicated crime such as this in just less than a few minutes is a great talent itself even greater than my own honestly… And people such as the police officers should learn to respect and appreciate that…” Atsushi paused and looked at him with a serenely downcast expression on his face, a fragile yet smile of understanding marring his features.
It made Ranpo paused gazed at him with a brief expression of being taken aback for a few seconds.
And that’s when Ranpo knew.
Atsushi was one of the genuinely accepting and selfless people he had met in his lifetime.
When you lie, I cover it up When you hide, I cover it up When you cry, I cover it up When you come undone, I cover it up
Ranpo had realized his initial lukewarm reception towards him.
Because he saw his younger self in him.
Naïve. Accepting. Kind.
It disgusted him.
But he was more disgusted at himself.
He had turned into some jaded, cynical being disguised in the faux sweetness of his confectionaries and quick remarks to other people.
Emotions hadn’t been his strong suit and Ranpo knew that his sharp tongue and disposition with other people had always got him into trouble rather out of it.
But an unknown, niggling feeling within him had urged to take a good look at Atsushi and pay more attention to him.
And his intrigue grew with each moment passed them by.
So pent-up, I was coming home to you Happy in the nighttime, howlin' at the moon Sippin' on a cocktail, drinking in the loo There's something about you I hold on to
Days trickled by that turned into weeks.
They both found themselves in being partnered often in missions together.
Mostly because aside Atsushi being too kind in refusing tasks and partners being assigned to him, he was one of the few people who possessed a genuine patience that can rival a saint when it came to dealing with Ranpo’s fractious personality.
Their silence inside the train rides slowly turned into occasional small talks: mostly with Ranpo commenting idly on his observations about other people and ranting about everything else. Until it turned into a two-way street of conversation between the two of them.
Ranpo found out even with their stark differences, they have oblique similarities.
They’re fiercely protective of people they care about even if it’s in the form of different entire beings.
Opinions of the people they greatly respected and admire about were both important to them.
When the train ride was over, Ranpo had looked over the horizon where the sun was setting peacefully.
A maelstrom of emotions was awakening within him as he stayed longer by Atsushi side.
And he didn’t want it to end.
When you lie, I cover it up When you hide, I cover it up When you cry, I cover it up When you're blind, I cover it up
(A/N: Yeah, pretty damn late getting into this fandom. But what can I say? Ranatsu is the first rare ship that caught my attention in this franchise, and I just had to get this out of my system. Reviews are amusing so let me hear them from you).

HOT PEPPER's November 2022 issue
Akaso Eiji Interview
Tumblr media
- I may be influenced by the characters you've played so far, and have a refreshing and mischievous impression of you. What are you actually like?
Friends who are close to me often say that I am "particular" and " go on my own way". So it may be different from what everyone imagined (laughs). Recently Nakajima no Ken chan (Nakajima Kento) said to me: "you're a bit special".
—I don’t think it’s likely to be said that way (laughs), like where, can you give us an example?
When he came to play at my house, he looked at my room and said "it's unique".
—I am very concerned about the special room.
I think the warm atmosphere is nice, the furniture and interior are all wood. However, the scent of the room is red wine. Are you saying that the incongruity between the wood texture and the enchanting mature fragrance is very special…. Also, because I'm very self-contained, I'm going to analyze whether this is something special (laughs).
—You are co starring in the NHK morning drama "Maiagare! "among them, the person you performs is unwilling to be normal, does his own way, Umezo Takashi.
Takashi is a man who feels suffocated because he is not willing to be "normal". But I would wonder what the usual is. What you think of as "normal" is often different from what others think of as "normal." He's a character who portrays the troubles everyone goes through growing up, and I think the audience can relate.
—Your character is the childhood friend of Mai Iwakura, the heroine performed by Haruka Fukuhara. what did you talk about in shaping the role?
It's incredible that the first day I performed with her, I didn't feel like meeting her for the first time. I think it's thanks to her own air of "accepting others". Moreover, Mai is a character who is desperately trying to move forward. It would be great if I could be someone who can be close to such a person and perform while being so aware, so I might naturally have the atmosphere of childhood friends.
—Takashi is supposed to be the son of the owners of an okonomiyaki shop in Osaka. You were born in Osaka, right?
Yes. I moved to Nagoya after I was born, but my grandmother is still in Osaka. Every time I go to play, I eat okonomiyaki and octopus balls.
—Then, please tell us the food you will want to eat when you return to Nagoya.
I really like the fried rice from a local restaurant, and I will eat it every time I go back. Basically, I like the strong flavor, this fried rice is rich in soy sauce flavor. You can't eat this rich flavor in Tokyo, so I will definitely try it when I go back to Nagoya!
- Sounds delicious! Do you have a shop you frequent in Tokyo?
Recently, a ramen shop opened near my house. I didn't have a chance to go before, I will take a look when passing by, and finally went a while ago! The dan dan noodles there are super delicious. A lot of sesame seeds are sprinkled in the thick soup, which is very fragrant. Also, the soft and glutinous noodles are a perfect match for the soup. I got addicted after eating it once and now I go once a week.
—Full of love for ramen! Is there anything you should pay attention to in terms of food?
I pay attention to eating more protein and fiber-rich foods such as fish and meat. Ramen is also, because I especially like carbohydrates, I will pay attention to nutritional balance.
—Do you go looking for food on your days off?
On days off, it's more about taking care of my body than eating. Go for acupuncture, go for a herbal massage…. During this time I also went to see traditional Indian medicine (Āyurveda). I will try my best not to accumulate fatigue and let my immunity decline. I also like bathing centers and saunas, and I often go to places where my body and mind can relax. I watch movies when I'm at home.
—I heard that you used to watch movies with your family, and the more you watch it, the more you like it.
Yes! I often watched "Back to the Future", "Terminator" and "Jurassic Park" and other kingly movies. However, "The Shining" I watched with my dad in elementary school was too scary, and I didn't dare to go to the toilet at that time... Even now, "Back to the Future" is a favorite work. Also, I am very addicted to "Top Gun 2: Maverick" that I watched this year, and I also bought the handsome MA·1 worn by the protagonist Maverick. This is the most recommended movie of the year. Those who haven't seen it you must see it!
Questions!
Q1 What kind of food do you want to eat this winter?
When winter comes, I want to eat hot pot. It's good to put a lot of various ingredients, like a mixed pot. I like fish and shellfish a lot, so this winter I want to try the seafood pot with many luxurious fish and shellfish.
Q2 Please tell us what you want the most right now!
I want the "AVIREX" military jacket worn by starring Tom Cruise in the movie "Top Gun 2: Maverick". But it seems to be very popular item now, and it is not easy to get it... So want it even more!
Q3 What do you usually order when ordering takeout?
Although I can cook for myself, I often order takeout when I get tired from work, and I like to order large portions such as pasta and pizza. Takeaway pizza is my regular menu, it's delicious hot, so I love it.
Styling Note : the theme is indigo monochromatic denim
"Indigo blue is very suitable for the denim style in autumn and winter. Moreover, because the inside is a shirt, it will have a clean and neat feeling, and I like the refreshing atmosphere. I used to like a slightly brighter light color denims, but as I've gotten older, I've become fond of deep indigo blues." (Akaso Eiji)

Added parts from media online articles, the content is slightly different:
What is your favorite meal these days?
Akaso was actually born in Osaka and because that he used to eat okonomiyaki and takoyaki on a daily basis.
His recent favorite ramen is tantanmen, and he commented, "This shop is famous for its tantanmen. It's spicy, so it warms my body. I didn't go there before, but now I go there about once a week!" .
Furthermore, Akaso says, "Maybe because I grew up in Nagoya, I like strong flavors and eat a lot of strong foods." When I go back to Nagoya, I want to eat "fried rice from a local ramen shop".
When choosing a restaurant when eating out, he says he searches in the internet or asks friends and seniors for recommendations.many of them said "Look at the pictures of the food and the atmosphere of the restaurant and choose a restaurant that matches both." so at the end of filming,he often searches online for “what he wants to eat” and “area”. Introducing the points of choosing a restaurant.
When asked about which restaurant he wants to go the most right now, he said, "In the fall and winter, I've never eaten chanko nabe. Actually, I always think it looks delicious when the sumo wrestlers are eating it, so I'd like to go!" said.
Akaso's reward meal is "sushi to eat at home". ``It's been a luxury meal since I was little, and ordering sushi delivered to my home is a luxury for me,'' he said.

The Titans, Monarch, and Maia react to: Instance #3 by the Suitmation Trials.
San: Aw man, there weren't any weird cartoony eyes! I was gonna do a "I have special eyes" joke...
Madison, checking messages in the clip: "They're all still in the cold"... "They deserved it after all"... "You're still in the woods, do not forget that"...
Vivi: I'm a bit reminded of those totheark videos from Marble Hornets. Those were fun times.
Serizawa: I'm sorry, are... are these videos implying that the suit actor was a murderer?
Goji: If that's the case, the explanation better be that these particular tapes are from an alternate timeline where Nakajima-san wasn't a Godzilla suit actor, because I will not stand for such slander.
Maia: Hey, is this the one where it becomes, like, self-aware and starts trying to kill the narrator or something?
Madison: That's the NES Godzilla Creepypasta.
Maia: Oh yeah...

“Basically, I’m in love with you.” “...O-kay? And what do you expect me to do about that?” “I don’t know. Skewer me to death? Banish me from appearing before you ever again?” Akutagawa simply raised an eyebrow at him in response. Atsushi shifted on his feet, beginning to feel self-conscious.
