Ok, so… Belgium legalised sex work in 2022, meaning sex workers could register themselves as independent contractors and have a fully legal framework for their income, which was already a huge win, but still left the profession in a grey-ish area.

Today, a law was proposed that would give sex workers the right to sign an employment contract, meaning a sex worker in a brothel would be fully recognised as an employee by the government, with all the relevant rights associated with that (social security, pension rights, leave days, unionisation, etc) as well as legal protection under Belgian labour law in case of disputes with their employer. The law also includes special clauses for the profession, such as refusing a customer not being grounds for termination, and new standards for safety and cleanliness of registered sex work establishments.

I’m proud to be Belgian today; crossing my fingers this makes it through.

Something we really need to commend Hazbin Hotel for is being very clear that sex work is real work.

The few times sex work is even included in media its either made out to be gross and immoral or just used as a joke.

Hazbin Hotel does not do this.

Angel obviously loves the work that he does and is proud of his talent.

Where the conflict comes in is the awful treatment by his boss and his inability to leave the job.

This is a very honest depiction of many people in many types of work where the joy they have for the work is removed because of the treatment by management.

And for people being unable to leave a bad job due to financial dependence.

I have no doubt that even after Val is defeated Angel will remain a sex worker.

He will just do it on his terms.

We need more representation like this.

Sex positive means sex positive.

It does not mean positive only to men.

It doesn't mean you can do whatever you want regardless of the consequences of others.

It must be positive for women.

It must be positive to queers

It must not harm children.

It must respect consent.

Sex positivity removes a lot of rules that are designed to control people on the behalf of powerful men and replace them with rules designed to keep people safe.
