Here's the animatic for Jar Full of Cosmos. I've never made one of these before, but it's basically a set of storyboards with sound effects and timing. I didn't make this with an audience in mind, so the sketches are ✨rough✨. The substance in the mixing bowl and (later a jar) is meant to be a mini galaxy like the bottle in my prior post. Otherwise, I think it makes enough sense for people to follow? I will likely be doing another one of these to block out everything in 3D, but for now I have an idea of the shots I will need. This was literally the sketchiest thing I could make to get an idea for the animation.
I acquired every single sound effect by searching "free _____ sound effect" on youtube. Hopefully I can find a better low cost/free source moving forward.
Carol & The End of the World is out now on Netflix
While I find my digital boards from 2021, here are some early post-it thumbs for Throuple. Great ep. Grep.
Carol is pretty much exactly the kind of adult animated show I wanted to work on and see in the world. Watching it in its completed state today – finally – I thought of a timeline in which this show was culled like so many others in this dark-ass era for the industry
I particularly love the episodes our team – Bert, Sam, Seo, and myself got to work on. They're all weird and arthouse-y but sweet in a way that's totally in my wheelhouse. Maybe this wasn't Dan Guterman's intention, but I don't think it's unfair to say that there's something of a Steven Universe-esque spirit to these eps, if that interests anyone here haha.
Drew a bunch in one day. Stroud's climaxes are always epic, but weirdly enough are mostly never the coolest part of his books, because the things that get me excited the most are character dynamics and witty dialogues with 30 layers of subtext and a million forshadowings.
Rough storyboards for Roxy and Krystal's magic Winx transformation sequences
Idk if I'll actually animate these or not, but I like having ideas XD
I didn't keep much from Roxy's original and lazy transformation sequence. That's right I said it. It's lazy.
A whole ass transformation, and she doesn't transform. She just starts the sequence already in her outfit, floats a bit and gets wings. Lazyyyyyyy.
It's like Daphne's, the girls transform OFF SCREEN what's the point??
The only thing I like is the ending poses. They can stay.
And started from scratch for Krystal, since she doesn't transform at all in canon. So I just went with the themes of "cutesy" and "lilypads", with Krystal hamming it up with cute poses.
Trying to keep in mind the canon sequences, to stay accurate, but still being creative. I don't think I need to be 110% faithful if it stifles creativity.
Selina gets a sequence too (so do the others), but I just need to figure out how I want Witch transformation sequences to differ from Fairies.
