I’m still processing the Bad Batch season 2 finale and it just really breaks me because... they lost. Think about that. When we’re first introduced to the Bad Batch, we’re told by Cody that they have a 100% success rate. Even when things went rough in the first season, the Batch still emerged unscathed and together (yes, I’m including Crosshair in this). 

But this finale is different because it is the first the time the group collectively lost. Crosshair was the first to go after what happened at the outpost. After realizing how wrong he was, Crosshair killed Lt. ***hole and was captured. Now, he’s being tortured whilst trying to save his family with what little he can do. Then it was Tech (still heart broken btw), who sacrificed his life to save the others. Now, it’s Omega, who was captured by Hemlock.

Hunter, Wrecker, and Echo are all that’s left. Echo could honestly go off on with Rex so that leaves his fate up to chance. And Hunter. Poor Hunter. This man is fiercely loyal and determined. He’s the papa bear who would fight for the life of someone he loves. But now, he is broken. He literally suggests retiring to Pabu because he is tired of running and that breaks me. Tech’s sacrifice broke him in a way he didn’t see coming. Poor Wrecker probably just wants to keep the rest of his family safe :( it’s so sad.

What really kicks the bucket is that Crosshair and Tech’s sacrifices are essentially meaningless in a way. Crosshair suffered brutal torture for his family and yet, Omega was still captured. Tech sacrificed his own life and Omega was still captured. 

It’s such a brutal finale if you really think about it. The Empire took this little family and destroyed it. And that truly and genuinely breaks my heart.

The weak one

When Logan hit Roman as a kid, Roman might have thought that it brings them closer, creates something special, lets him understand his father better. Logan was hit by his uncle, so Roman feels what his dad felt. Why Roman acts like it's not a big deal? Through the show Logan minimizes it, normalizes it, and even turns it into a joke. And by hitting Roman Logan showed that he never expected Roman to be tough, because by definition he was the youngest, the weak. And it's probably why Roman wanted to go to military school.

The tough one

"The tough one" was supposed to be Kendall. And he failed - sensitive and introvert, playing with Legos and getting lost in thoughts, and, worst of all, crying. He was never a killer, and Logan wouldn't let him forget about it. Sure, he was the "good son", but he wasn't enough. So Ken might have been programmed to believe that he deserved every psychological abuse he received (of course not knowing that it's abuse) - because Logan saw him as a failure, and Ken sees himself as a failure. When you can't protect your little brother from getting hit, because you're afraid, what right do you have to dwell on the fact that dad is mean to you? That he lied? Ken was able to create some sort of business-cool-killer facade, but it's so thin, almost like it's created from the newspapers announcing he's "the heir with the flair".

The cold one

Shiv might think that she needs to be bulletproof - because she's a woman, and that's a problem. She's Pinky, the favorite, but not much more. Growing up around Logan and her brothers, she quickly understood how important it is not to show emotions, because men around her will use it against her in a heartbeat (you're getting too emotional about it? Why so angry? ). Her shield is strong, she built it her whole life, and only Tom's betrayal was able to break it. She can't even start processing her feelings when talking to Tom in the first episode of season 4, because she has no idea how.

The one

Connor was separated his whole life, no attention from Logan, other siblings growing up together, his mom institutionalized. He was probably not subjected to much of abuse, and he ironically might be resentful of that, because in this family love is mixed with poison. He calls his siblings love sponges, not fully realizing that this sponge is filled with toxins. To be loved means to be infected. He even used this language when talking to Willa in Austerlitz - love is an affliction, maybe you'll catch it. Connor is the first, the one, alone, literally forgotten by his family so many times.

There are no such thing as curses, except the Boogeyman curse, which I sort of had today, but it wasn't actually the same at all. A lot of the bloodlust, sure, but a lot more... Etho had to be the one to do it, huh? And it's not the same. Not comforting. That's a stupid thing to say actually. Take it out of wherever you're putting this. Cut it out of the recording. Comforting. Please. As if it were ever... Yeah, I'm done actually. Don't have a good answer. Go away.

Scott: What, other than Jimmy? Bless that man, he may not have died first, but he sure tried his best. Sure, I'll believe Jimmy is cursed. I mean, mostly he's just kind of stupid. Lovingly so. Pearl: Oh, I mean, I'm probably cursed. That's what everyone liked to say at one point. I think... I mean, I think this time I have good friends, which is nice. They don't think I'm cursed. And it's not like I--I mean, it's surprisingly fun, acting cursed! And I am just acting. Acting scary, blowing up dance floors, all of that. And I don't really have to this time, so... Maybe I'm not cursed? And since it's acting, it's not real? This is a weird question.

Etho: Oh, man, that's a question. Um, do I have to answer? Because I feel like if I say no, that's really just asking for it, but if I say yes, I have to explain myself. Uh, I think I'm abstaining, unless the zombie thing from earlier counts. That was scary and I hated it. Curses are scary and I hate them in general, but apparently I'm good at them, if you ask everyone else. Um, it's not the only thing I find scary that apparently I'm good at.

Scar: Why, of course I believe in curses! Look at poor, poor... Timbert? Timmy? Jim? Gosh, sorry, I'm very tired right now. That's more proof of curses, by the way! That I'm tired. I've been tired straight since the desert, let me tell you what. And that, my friends, is a curse like no other. What a terrible beast, loneliness is. Wish me luck breaking it, because it's not happening this season!

Cleo: Oh, you mean the thing people like to blame instead of their own actions? Nah. My soulbond was kind of a curse, I guess, but even that's at least half just... bad people. Bad relationships. Good ones, too. We're all just doing what you can, you know? No script, no curses, no characters, just... Oh, I hope everything turns out tomorrow. Sorry, that's unrelated. It's just nicer to hope than to preemptively blame things on curses that don't exist.

Impulse: Well, I mean, I didn't until you just asked me that, but now I feel like I should. Wouldn't that be nice? Being cursed instead of just sort of unlovable? Sorry, no, that's mean to Gem. I shouldn't say that about Gem, she's been good this season. Super, super cursed, mind you, in the like, game mechanic sense? But she's been good, no backstabbing or inability to get love involved. Um, and I guess that's not fair to Bdubs, kind of, except it also totally is and I haven't forgiven him. So I guess if they ask I said I believed in curses, and that's why my life keeps circling clocks? Don't put any of that other stuff down, I'm trying to work on that.

Gem: I was just cursed for a task, but that probably isn't what you're asking about, right? I'm new, so I don't know! A task is a concrete thing to believe in, like bloodshed or victory or fun and games. You don't have to believe in those to know they're real, either! They just are, whether you like it or not. I understand that much!

Tango: Gah, don't talk to me about... Deep breaths. Look, I don't care if it's a curse, or if it's just me being really bad, or what, I'm not going out pointlessly this time. Jimmy managed not to die first, I can manage to not go out to a stray arrow or my own bomb or a misstep this time, right? Is that so much to ask?

Skizz: Huh? Curses? I mean, I don't think so, and to be totally honest I think it's kind of mean the way people sometimes rag on people about them. Everyone's got so many good things about them! Why do people like to focus on the unfortunate luck, huh?

Bdubs: Hah! Curses! Let me tell you about curses. When I see curses, I eat them for breakfast. I don't got curses, I've got better things to do! I've got my buddies with the Mounders, and I've got-well, I'd say keeping Etho safe, but he's being weird at me again this season. Not that it matters. It never matters. Etho and I, we're... The point is, that doesn't matter anyway, because I have the Mounders, and they're the ones who matter here. And because I'm a strong, independent Bdubs, who doesn't need anyone but my bow and my perfect, flawless fighting prowess! Sorry, what was the question? I've been thinking so much lately that it's just sort of made everything else pop out of my head, so it's hard to keep track. I'm sure I answered it flawlessly, though.

Martyn: Of course there are curses. That's half the fun for you lot, isn't it? Putting your little curses on us and watching us rail against them. Bet you think it's real cute to ask us what we think of the things, too. "Oh, what do you think of curses," like we have any control over them. Please. If I had any control over curses, Jimmy--or, well, no, I guess that one was technically broken, wasn't it? Sure doesn't feel like it. Point is, curses are bad, and they're definitely real, and I hate you for them, got it?

Anakin blinks, more than a decade’s worth of Jedi training the only thing keeping him from reeling back. “What?” Padmé’s eyes gleam back at him, hard as flint. “If Master Kenobi developed hanahaki for you, if you saw him in pain because of you, would you have done what I did for Sabé?”

Anakin shakes his head, suddenly lost and feeling rather like the trap has been sprung. “You didn’t do anything wrong to her,” he says helplessly. “You said you paid for her surgery–”

“There were two things I could have done,” Padmé replies. “But I was a good wife. I didn’t even think about the other option. I didn’t even try. Because of you.”

The other option. The only other cure for the flowering disease: for the love to be returned.

Anakin cuts his eyes away from the face of his wife. They jump from the fireplace to the open doors leading to a balcony, to a chair in the corner to the old-fashioned books tucked neatly away in their alcove. “Don’t ask me this,” he says, begs, because Padmé is his wife and once, he loved her ardently.

But she is also a politician, and she knows to never give in when she is so close to her victory. “Tell me what you would do,” she demands softly. “Tell me you would do the same. If it were Obi-Wan dying, tell me you would hold his hand as he underwent the surgery. Tell me that you would remember me.”

“He would never develop flowers for me,” Anakin snaps as if the words have been ripped from his throat, and his hands loosen behind his back, grab at the ends of his hair and then scrub roughly over his face.

Padmé’s lips curl and her eyes flash, a spark of embers beneath a blanket of ash. “Put aside your belief that your master is too much of a Jedi to fall in love, that is not what I want—”

Anakin shakes his head, once, sharply. He feels cornered. Like a wild animal, biting at anything that encroaches into his space. “You asked me to speak and now you will not listen,” he snarls, and he is being cruel. This is cruel.

But this is also the truth, and it is what she wanted. 

“He would never develop flowers for me,” he says again. “Because you only develop flowers when the love is unrequited. And there has never been a moment in my life that I have not been in love with Obi-Wan Kenobi. Is that what you wanted to hear, Padmé?”

omg I was watching McCann Dogs!! I watched so so so much of their training vids before bringing Hugo home + during his puppyhood and it helped so much. these are some of the ones that I really Studied early on to give me a blueprint of how to start from ground zero w my boy

Because I've read some things about the other Batkids forgetting they are adopted. But I think in a family like this, the reverse may be equally true xD

Do I think Damian ever forgets he's not adopted? Realistically: No. He spent his first year at the manor making sure every conversation he had somehow ended in him mentioning he was "the blood son". It would take a severe amount of head trauma or smth to make that boy forget that

But in my heart?: Yes I think he does because that would be so funny and the concept positively delights me😭

I mean who's proof reading these things, right?

Tim saves the cave recording to every possible file and hard drive he can get his hands on. Barbara helps him to ensure it can't be deleted. The entire family continues to bring it up for weeks that "the blood son" forgot about his blood. Damian never lives it down.

Imo, the argument of "which Sannin is the strongest" misses the point of the characters and their three way deadlock

The Sannin are of course references to the characters from the Japanese folklore story, The Tale of the Gallant Jiraiya. However, they also reference the game of mushi-ken, which is basically an old variant of Rock, Paper, Scissors. In the game, Slug beats Snake, Snake beats Toad, and Toad beats Slug.

This is reflected in their interactions in canon.

Slug beats Snake

This one's easy - Tsunade famously beat up Orochimaru that one time.

Snake beats Toad

Now, some people argue that Jiraiya is more powerful than Orochimaru and would easily win if they were to fight. Most often I see people cite that Itachi easily trapped Oro in a genjutsu, but hesitated to face Jiraiya.

But power scaling is more complicated than that - if we're going to compare them fighting against other people then here's a different example:

Jiraiya nearly died trying to calm Four-Tails Naruto, while Orochimaru fought him directly and got away basically fine. And when we did see the two fight, Orochimaru easily penetrated Jiraiya's defenses.

Sure Jiraiya had been drugged not long before, but Orochimaru was arguably worse off, being tired, sickly, and not having use of her arms or chakra abilities. Orochimaru even points this out:

So while Jiraiya might be able to beat Itachi (we don't actually see it happen though so it's really just conjecture) that doesn't mean he can win against Orochimaru. After all, he's been following the snake for years but never fought/defeated them in all that time.

Toad beats Slug

Now this one could be a little controversial, but hear me out:

In terms of brute strength, Tsunade trumps both of her teammates easily; there's no question of that.

But strength isn't everything in a battle. And I think this moment says a lot:

Jiraiya states that he will kill Tsunade if she chooses to betray Konoha, and neither of them question that he has the ability to do so. So while she might regularly beat his ass when he's doing dumb shit, the implication here is that if they were to fight seriously and he genuinely wanted to hurt her, he could. Maybe not with strength alone but with technique and determination he could ultimately take her down.

Deadlock

And there you have the crux of their team - one might be able to defeat another, but no individual can beat both opponents. This is why the deadlock exists. They keep each other in check.

And this is also why they were always more powerful as a team...

I know for sure you made a most showing all of Hunter's official scars from crew art and whatnot, and I straight up cannot find them anywhere, do you happen to have reference photos??? I've looked in so many places (art reference struggle)

first of all, we've got the Cheek Scar. we all know this one:

secondly, there's this scar on his left ankle:

it's on the outer side of his leg, located slightly above his ankle, and it seems to kinda "curve around" his leg too, since we can see the scar up-front as well as from the back.

then, there's the scar on his left upper arm. we can see it in the show, in dana's art, and in color design refs for the episode:

(cannot stop thinking abt him wearing the vet clinic t-shirt btw... he definitely voluntereed at camila's clinic at some point........ he must've been so happy. just helping out, taking care of little creatures.. ough. he'd love that..........)

BUT ANYWAY, the scar also seems to kinda curve around the outer side of his arm (similar to his ankle scar) and it's a little bit diagonal.

next! we also see a scar on his right upper arm, although it's only in this scene, so there’s a slight possibility it’s actually an animation error, but nevertheless! it is there, so:

it’s curved around the back of his upper right arm, horizontal.

then we have scars that dana has drawn on him but that aren’t actually drawn in the show:

an x-shaped scar on his right knee, a scar on the outer side of his left calf/on the back of his leg, as well as a diagonal scar on the top side of his left lower arm (peeking out from under his glove).

AAAAAAAANNDDDDDD...... then we’ve got the new scars, too. ow.

so............ he basically got new scars in most places belos’ goo was; probably wherever it was long enough to, uh, literally eat through hunter’s skin.. considering every animal belos had possessed before ended up being a skeleton....... SO..

new scars:  - a scar on his left cheek (similar to his previous cheek scar but mirrored + slightly smaller/shorter). - a scar on his left ear (it goes allll around the back too), around his ear nick. - a scar on...... a BIG portion of his right body: it has rather “jagged” lines and it starts and goes over his nose, his entire right cheek (covers a bit of his lower eyelid too), then it continues down to his neck (probably covers the entire right half of it, up-front and from the back), it probably covers his entire shoulder.. at the Least, and then it continues on and ends at his right upper arm....... uh - a scar on his left arm. it extends from his wrist to mid-upper-arm (and also has jagged lines). 

.........so! i’m in pain, i’m in agony, i’m in agony and pain and i just want him to be hAPPY.

but yeah! these are all the scars. i think

the main difference between dick and tim is that dick believes in bruce as the man who took him in and passed on his moral beliefs and values to him, while tim believes in batman as a concept and idea
