been thinking about a couple of screencaps that @will80sbyers posted of what looks heavily implied to be h*omosexual activity at rink-o-mania not in the closet:

and it's got me thinking: throughout all of s4, we really don't get any introspection into how much personal growth Will has undergone during his year away from Hawkins

we of course know he's torn up about his relationship with mike and is hurting watching his half-sister be bullied at school, but we don't know much about what HE is going through.

what we know contextually:

the fictional town of lenora hills is somewhere roughly between bakersfield and LA metro. even in the 80s when california was overall more right-leaning than it is now, it still would have been leagues more progressive than hawkins, indiana at this time

2) Will clearly feels comfortable enough in his new environment to do research projects and presentations on openly gay individuals in history

3. Will feels empowered enough to paint a very emotional gift for a girl he likes Mike.

4. (admittedly minor) king has a little shop of horrors poster in his room, literally flooded with queer subtext. considering the film had JUST come out, too, this was something he was eagerly anticipating, not hopping onto the cult-classic bandwagon for after the fact

(unrelated note: if you haven't heard m.j. rodriguez, a BIPOC+ trans actress, sing suddenly seymour, you should do that now).

all of these things together indicate: Will has been put in a position that's allowed himself to slowly begin coming to terms with his sexuality in his time away from Hawkins. He may not be vocalizing it yet, but his actions indicate he's probably seen couples like the ones at rink-o-mania already this year. Something that very possibly could have given him the courage to approach Mike about it over Spring Break.

of course, this goes in the trash as all of Will's insecurities hit him full-force the moment Mike steps off the plane in Cali. The rest of s4 depicts this breakdown very well, but it takes understanding just how far Will has come to appreciate how heartbreaking his emotional deterioration is.

We can also support this by considering Jonathan's POV in the van and pizza cooler. Traditionally a loner who has the same kind of reserved life as Will, he also wouldn't have had a lot of exposure to queer people just existing prior to moving to California. He's evidently experienced enough to be able to pick up on Will's (admittedly obvious) subtext and deduce that his brother may be hiding something.

why would the duffers go through the effort of so subtly building up Will's growth arc to not have the payoff be one that completes the hero's journey?

not to get bogged down in mythology: the hero's journey is a very common framework found in thousands of works. it has three main sections: 1) when the hero has to leave home and venture into the world, 2) the ordeals the hero undergoes to realize their full potential, and 3) the hero's return home with whatever they've gained from their trial in order to complete their adventure.

to me, this suggests heavily that Will's journey of self-actualization and facing his inner-demons (both extra-dimensional and homosexual) is going to conclude in Hawkins as he enters the final third of his journey.

notably, a section of this Journey Will hasn't gone through yet:

RESURRECTION) One final test is required for the purification and rebirth of the hero. Alternatively, it may be a miraculous transformation.

all i'm saying is that transformation better involve him getting Mike to shut up and admit how he feels about his best friend.

What if Steve and Eddie got trapped in the upside down during the final battle of 87?

El cant find them and can no longer open a gate for everyone to try find them, so everyone has to believe they're dead. The party feels lost without them.

Of course, Dustin Robin Max Lucas and Erica are all devastated, all refusing to believe that the two were dead, sure that there must be a way to get them back. But, weeks turn to months and months turn to years and there is still no sign of Steve and Eddie being found.

After a while the group is forced to just start moving on with their lives, each moving away but all staying in contact.

Slowly they start forming their own familys, Lucas and Max (now living in California near Jonathan and Argyle) welcome thier first daughter 'Stephanie Erica Sinclair' April 29th 1992, she was a happy accident and was named after her parents favourite siblings.

The same year, Argyle and Eden have a little girl named Evie, the two splitting custody after Eden moved out of Utah to California near Argyle.

Next was Nancy and Jonathan two years later, the pair having a set of twins 'James Edmund and Katie Barbara' August 10th 1994. Jon takes full custody when they turn 3, living with Argyle back in Cali, letting Nancy follow her dream of becoming a journalist in Chicago, while he worked his dream job at a photography studio stationed on the coast. The two both knew they weren't going to last, however they dont stop loving eachother. (Nancy still helps out with the twins when shes in the area as well as weekly phone calls, making sure they know she loves them even if shes not often around)

In 96, 'Issac Lucas Sinclair' who was the same age as a little girl called 'Morgan' later adopted by El who Dr Owen's believes nay have powers similar to hers and Henry's.

Robin and Vickie, who now live in Michigan, adopt a son in 2000 a trans boy named Tyler, a year older than Stephanie.

At this point it's 2007, having been 20 years since the final battle, 20 years since the party lost Steve and Eddie, 20 whole years. The only people who still lived in Hawkins was Dustin and Suzie Henderson, the two of them both choosing not to have kids, living together in one of the newer houses built along the edge of Hawkins where they had easy access to their jobs working in a lab just outside of Indianapolis. The two secretly working on a way to potentially find their missing friends.

Dustin becomes the fun uncle to his friends kids, Hosting a new version of Hellfire for them with Will being his co DM!

Wayne Munson also continued to live in Hawkins after he helped during the final battle, after losing his nephew he moved in with Claudia living with her.

The wheelers and Sinclair's still both live there too, Holly Wheeler after graduating, now being a teacher at Hawkins high.

The Hopper-Byers move out towards Illinois, Mike and Will both living together in an apartment together in Indianapolis, and El lives with Max and Lucas with their children together in California.

(lest not also forget Garath and Jeff, who also helped in the final battle, the two along with the other members of Corroded Coffin started making it big during the early 90s, and successfully did 2 world tours, they always dedicate each performance to Eddie, as he was the man who started the band and would have loved to see where they ended up now!!)

The party end up coming back to Hawkins in July, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the end of the Upside Down.

...That is until Stephanie Sinclair goes missing while cycling back to the Hendersons after an evening at the arcade with the other party members kids. Everyone else was staying at the wheelers or the old Byers home, but hers were staying with her Uncle Dustin like they always did. Issac and Morgan hadnt joined them so she was biking on her own.

They found her abandoned bike along the edge of Mirkwood the next day... Stephanie Sinclair had completely disappeared

It didnt take long for missing animal reports to start cropping up either, same with another missing person, one of Holly's students...

When Stephanie is finally saved a week later she wasnt found alone. Her and the missing student, were accompanied by two familiar young adults.

Steve and Eddie, both looking like they had barely aged at all since getting trapped in the upside down.

Tho' Idk if Anne can modify her work shirt like that. A pin is one thing but a whole patch is another. This of course is coming from someone who has a fairly lax work dress-code. The closest I've seen like that is Masha's Non-binary fingernails, plus Anne works in Cali and it'd be in the 2030s so maybe that'd be fine, officially. Other than that, the cracks glowing is a cool effect (so does Sasha and Marcy not have their Calamity powers since this is God-Anne's colors which needs all three gems to activate)

Jockbull Summer Week 2 (19/11/23-25/11/23)

Went hard with the push ups this week. It gives me such a euphoric rush. I’ve built my chest in the gym normally so by the time I've got a pump from doing a single set of push ups I've got my own set of stress toys to flex and play with. The highest score for this week was 36 with no backtracking. One notable Session involved Scandinavian_King(of Set C fame) pushing me harder and harder to keep doing sets past my first one. Each time to failure. I get so easily riled up with shit like that. Guys taking advantage of the muscle lust to push me harder. I think that night I got a total of 90 in a 5 min span.

Muscle related competition was a bit sparse this week. K was out sick so no push up rival. I did end up trying to beat my great friend Teal’s record of 50. That did not work. But I'll get there. Need to get there. Need to fucking win.

This is a fortnightly task but I have noticed an issue. It is related to the problem of me defaulting to these shitty pieces of clothing just cause they are there. I wear them, they make me feel like a dysmorphic trash bag and then because I wear them they are dirty and get put in the wash basket. Which interrupts me being able to instantly put them in the Task box. Luckily I've got some Rawgear stuff coming to pad out the wardrobe before I get to those pieces.

This was the first time I actually got to practice the accent with Jockrs. Truth be told, I'm fucking great at that kinda stuff. I’ve always had a natural ability for voice modification and accent work. So i put it at like a 5/10 on the intensity scale for the whole time we were on the call. Jockrs didn’t fare as well. Obviously it’s a little harder to go from Aussie to Cali than my more neutral “trans-atlantic” mess. One thing i'd like to overcome in this whole process is the Irony poisoning. I spent so much of my life as a Snarky sarcastic dweeb. So much of my life being “Ironic” and joking about without taking things to the genuine core of me. So even this task it’s difficult to get started because in the first couple minutes you’ve got that awkward Irony block for doing something that feels affected. It was such a fun experience tho. After a while the voice just flows through you and it is such a flowey, breathy voice. So fluid and easy.

Rather than describe every BtG episode I'm going to focus on different things that I love and how this show absolutely scratches some old fantasies from my days as a dumb teenager in the musclegrowth kink community. Episode 3 where Baki is placed in a normal high school athletics test, and because of his sheer strength and inhuman physique is completely out of bounds and therefore almost flunks. Absolute Muscle RP fuel. Add to that all the gore and viscera in the other scenes. It’s very itch scratchy and possibly kink forming if you’ve got the abyss already bubbling away.

I am a glutton for punishment and I made an extra task for myself in each of the sets. I did this by drawing tarot cards. Letting the universe speak to me to guide my journey. For this set I drew a Wheel of fortune which talks about fortunate initiative, spontaneity, random success, equality of souls.

And i translated that to "Take more chances with guys in the gym" I hopped on this one quick too. 

I had to kinda work myself up for it but this really chill seeming asian dude with nice curly hair who has legit been at the gym the same time as me for i'd wager 80% of my workouts.

He was just resting and I asked his name and stuff complimented him and asked his goals.

His name is Adrian, he used to do a lot of sport and was focused on strength gains back in high school, but now he's in uni and is more focused on just looking good.

He goes to my school but does law and commerce so unlikely we'll ever share a class or even be there at the same time.

He asked some of my stuff yada yada.

And he kept saying super low under his voice like "you're so huge dude. So huge"

And then when he was leaving he came and said goodbye. It seems small, I know but it’s a big achievement for me every time I make a gymbro. It’s hard making friends in this country.

Summary: Steve has been telling you from day one to 'shoot your shot' with Will. But he doesn't understand how different it is for people like you. Especially for people like you.

"y/n you just have to be direct with him. Just say how you feel and see where it goes from there." Your older brother Steve said while slipping on his green work vest. You groan and fell backwards onto his bed.

"I'm sure Robin has already explained this to you but it's different for people like us. It's alot harder to find someone who is as chill about it as you. Let alone someone who also feels the same way!" You continued to complain while Steve stood in his bathroom messing around with his hair.

When you don't hear a response you lean your head up a little to peek into your brothers bathroom.

"Dude, you look fine! Will you just put down the Fara Fawcett spray and listen to me!" Steve sighs and leaves the bathroom, now heading for his bedroom door.

"I am listening and to me it just sounds like your making up excuses." You jump up from the bed and follow your brother when you start to hear his voice trail away.

"Well I have every right to if I don't want to be beat up! I'm not actually a guy you know." Steve is how standing by the front door as you run down the stairs. Steve turns to you just as you stop behind him.

"Do you really think Will of all people has the willpower to hurt you? Or anyone for that matter?" He raises his eyebrows at you and adds a small 'hm?' at the end.

"No, but Mike might." You lean against the wall as you watch Steve tie his shoes.

"Last I checked you were confessing to Will, not Mike." You brother laughs as he stands up. "But if you like both of them then I'm going to be concerned."

"Like you can say anything. You've dated probably every avalible girl in Hawkins and now after Nancy I haven't seen you sneak one girl in." You grin at Steve as his face goes blank. He grabs your hoodie and throws it at you.

"Get in the damn car..." You muffle your laughs as you put on your hoodie and step out the door, closing and locking it, before trailing behind Steve to his car.

You now stand leaning over the counter of the 'Family Video' store, Robin talking your ear off. You love Robin and you love to listen to her talk, but Steve was slacking so she was lonely and more talkative than usual.

You actually had a really nice conversation with her about what you should do about Will. She didn't have a lot of advice, her dealing with the same problem at the moment but you both came up with idea's. She was way more helpful that Steve.

At some point though you did have to go to school. It wss the last day before spring break and then it was off to Cali with Mike.

Yeah. That's why you were so worked up about someone who didn't even live here anymore. Because at 6am tomorrow you were getting on a flight with someone you were sure Will had a crush on to go see, well, your crush. So, awesome.

Anyways, you decided to walk to school and met up with Dustin and Mike outside by the doors. At some point after the assembly you broke off with them to hang out with Max. You met back up at lunch, talked about hellfire, blah blah- basically it was an eventful day.

In the end, after the game, you got picked up by Steve, grabbed your suitcases from home, and got dropped off at Mikes house. You decided to stay the night there so Nancy could drive the both of you to airport in the morning.

You stayed the night in Holly's room that night. Beleive it or not she was yor favorite Wheeler sibling. Things were weird with you and Nancy because of Steve and you and Mike just weren't that close anymore. You had a feeling Mike somehow knew about your feelings for Will and just never said anything.

So you spent most of your time at the Wheeler residence coloring and talking with Holly. After dinner you helped her pick out an outfit for tomorrow and set up a sleeping bag on the floor for you next to her bed.

In the morning Mrs. Wheeler woke You, Mike, and Nancy and soon enough you were all off to the airport. At this point you were so tired and scared that you only remember getting on the plane, falling asleep, and Mike nudging you awake as the plane landed.

Mike helped you grab your bags from above you and then walked away.

'Man he's eager' you make a face and quickly stumble down the aisle as someone pushes you as a sign to move.

Exiting the gate you walk next to Mike, who looks ridiculous by the way, and peer your head over the crowd of people also exiting the gate. Your nerves are high as you look for Will's face and specifically Will's face.

You see Mike next you also looking around, which seems to work out better for him, when he grabs your arm and points. You look and see an ecstatic El waving you and Mike down.

You smile as Mike waves back and runs over to her, colliding with her into a hug when they meet in the middle. You jog over to the small group that has formed with Mike and El at the very center. Everyone was hugging and saying hi, though it was awkwardly. You just stood there, un-noticed.

Ouch. You look over to Will when he gives Mike an awkward side hug. You frown when Mike quickly retreats back. You walk over to Will and tap him on the shoulder, making him turn around.

You watch as his face immediately lights up.

"y/n!" He pulls you into a gentle hug and you laugh at his eagerness.

"Hi Will. Whatcha got there?" You pull away from the hug to look at the rolled up paper in his hand. His mood noticably shifts as his face falls slightly.

"You don't have to tell me." You say, putting a hand on his shoulder. On the outside you were pretty calm but inside you felt like someone lit a fire in your stomache. You were so nervous you were afraid your hand would sweat through Will's shirt.

Will shook his head and smiled at you.

"No, it's okay. It's just something I made for Mike but he doesn't seem all that interested right now." Will turns his attention over to Mike who was getting tag checked by some dude you hadn't noticed before. You instantly respected him though.

You felt the small fire in your gut go out when you saw how Will looked at Mike. I think deep down you knew that Will probably wouldn't have a care in the world for your romantic feelings for him. All because of the straight boy he just so happened to fall for.

Everyone in the friend group knew you were born female and were kind of on edge when you came out as trans to them. It's one of the reasons you and Mike aren't that close anymore. But after that Will came up to you one day and pulled you aside.

He told you that he was questioning if he liked boys and you were so happy. But, not, at the same time, for obvious reasons. But you were there for him. Like he was there for you when you came out.

After introductions were done, the guy with long hair, who you now knew as Argyle, drove you all to a small diner. After, he and Jonathan dropped you all off at a Roller-Skating rink. It was apparently a place El went to alot. She brought up her supposed 'friends' alot too.

You guys skated for a while but the whole time you were watching Will. He kept looking at Mike and El while they skated. Hand in hand.

You skated up to Will and grabbed his hand. He looked at you and flinched a little. When he saw it was you he untensed a bit. You guys skated in silence, getting weird glares from other people in the rink. Nice to know you look somewhat masculine.

After a little you finally broke the silence.

"Ya'know, I always had a hunch you had feelings for Mike." You whisper. Will looks at you with wide eyes as you continue to look at your feet, your expression unchanging.

"I think the only reason I noticed is because you spent so much time looking at someone who doesn't care when I was the one looking at you. I guess it just irritates me how much you pine over Mike while he has head up in the clouds, surrounded by El." You feel the back of your throat dry up and you stop by the entrance of the rink.

"I'm gonna go get something to drink." Without looking at Will you step out of the rink and head over the the food counter. You get a bottle of water and go to sit in an empty booth.

You sit there and slowly sip at the bottle of water in your hand, just staring at the table. At this point you didn't feel like crying, you felt like screaming. You took Steve's advice and ended up walked away before you could get an answer. Stupid.

You put your forhead against the table and softly banged it a couple times. You sat there with your head down for a while, to be honest you lost track. At some point you felt someone sit next to you. They grabbed your hand and you instantly knew who it was.

You look up and see Will with a worried expression adorning his face. When he saw your face he smiled a little and leaned back in his seat.

"Your right, about Mike. And I've definitely accepted that fact. But I think I have yet to accept the fact he's dating and loves El. I-I made that painting in hopes that it would at least bring Mike attention to me and get us talking again. I don't even care about feelings at this point anymore. I just want us to be friends again." Will sqeezes your hand as he talks, I don't think he realizes until he looks down.

"And I'm sorry I didn't realize your feelings sooner. Now I feel like I'm doing to you what Mike was doing to me." He lets go of your hand moves away from you a little. "I don't know how long I've liked Mike, probably my whole childhood," You frown and Will realizes that probably didn't help.

"But that doesn't mean I still like him-I mean I do but I-" He groans and turn towards you in his seat. Your eyes were welling up, thinking the worse possible situations. "Y/n, I do like you. but I'm not completely over Mike. Far from it actually. But that doesn't mean I don't want to move on." "I know what it's like to be chosen last, and the last thing I want is for you to feel that way as well." The entire time Will was keeping eye contact you could feel how sincere he was. You knew that Will didn't didn't have the heart to break other peoples hearts. That just wasn't him.

Your eyes drift from Will's eyes and before you know it your pushing our own lips against his.

Headcanon A:  realistic: He doesn't have enough money to buy new glasses so his prescription is slightly out of date.

Headcanon B: while it may not be realistic it is hilarious: I think Dwight's apartment is a miserable kinda messy hovel. Guy who leaves the dishes swag. This is mostly funny because I think it would stress Danny out.

Headcanon C: heart-crushing and awful, but fun to inflict on friends: I can literally only think about Mint's beautiful fic about Elaine and the scene in the beginning where she thinks Dwight has committed suicide because of his miseries.Sorry world. Uh I do think Dwight probably struggles very severely with depression though

Headcanon D: unrealistic, but I will disregard canon about it because I reject canon reality and substitute my own.: I think part of why Dwight implicitly works in the silicon valley type space is that he moved to Cali to try to be in T.V./movies. He has a couple costumes that imply an interest in theater and acting so my headcanon is that he's doing other miserable jobs while theoretically trying to make it as an actor (but he probably hardly even gets to auditions...)

Nea Karlsson -

Headcanon A:  realistic: Nea is trans. This is realistic because it's canon my mind and soul.

Headcanon B: while it may not be realistic it is hilarious: Nea used to use gaiaonline when she was like 12.

Headcanon C: heart-crushing and awful, but fun to inflict on friends: I think a lot about her parents thinking she was just a troubled soul. In House of Arkham they aren't among the parents looking for their children in the Entity which means they kind of gave up on Nea, assumed she just ran off and disappeared and accepted that. I think her friends probably would've at least Tried looking for her.

Sentry has kind of become my every universe OC at this point because I love him so much, here are some key concept differences for him between the universes I've roleplayed him in so far: Baldur's Gate 3: A beautifully unflinching look at my own personal trauma and gender identity through the lens of redemption, healing, and being one's true self. My default Sentry, he who all other Sentrys are inspired by and start off from the base of. Default appearance of a young, good looking Tiefling trans man with pale skin, freckles, and silver hair worn in a side shave. Bhaalspawn who spent some time with the church of Ilmater and trained as a paladin, hopelessly in love with Enver Gortash. Fallout New Vegas: What if an Anduin Wrynn from World of Warcraft type character had really questionable morals, was guided primarily by physical attraction and bad taste in men, and was also on crack? (But in all seriousness, this story does still work through similar themes as BG 3 Sentry). Human trans man, originally hailing from an NCR base in Cali, but wandering alone since he was about 16 before falling in with Caesar's Legion before being cast out in shame and being rescued by a raider with a grudge against the Legion and becoming her right hand to get revenge. Pale, heavily scarred, still fairly youthful and handsome with a silver side shave, freckles, and always wearing a pair of Deathclaw horns as a headdress to fit his new boss' celtic inspiration.

Invincible: Actual devil spawn straight from hell, appearance and overall vibe is a bit of a Nightcrawler/Hellboy homage. Raised in an Irish Catholic orphanage by a bad-ass nun. Now as a young adult he's working as a hero called 'Hellish Rebuke' alongside his friends and partner. Appears as a pale young man with long curving horns and sharp teeth, freckles, long silver hair, and dresses like a crusty goth couch surfer when not in his hero suit. Kind of a flippant dickhead. Still a trans man.

Bloodborne: Beast blood addicted hunter with The League. Basically worships Valtr. Has a crippling addiction to beast blood and is very likely to transform into some sort of abomination very soon. He uses the hunter axe as well as a blunderbuss and A Call Beyond. Rumors say he was once a student at Byrgenwerth. Still a trans man, appears mostly human, though with strange horns and sharp teeth and nails, long stringy silver hair, pale sickly skin with freckles and scars.

Mass Angst... With Bittersweetness (Pt 3)

Mass agreed to himself that he would try several dating avenues, any and all gender identities. He wanted to be fair and give everyone under the sun a chance... However, he discovered something shortly after. Mass repeated the same cycle for months on end and he was a bit irritated with it.

Date a girl? She's great, but Mass didn't want to go anywhere further. Something about it turned him off. Date a guy? Same outcome, even if the guy was wonderful. It felt more like hanging out with a good, close friend. Non-Binary? Trans? Genderfluid? Intersex? No matter what, it was always the same. He didn't feel anything for anyone... Was he coldhearted as his dad seemed to be?

After yet another failed date and a few breakups, Mass was trapped in his own doubt and anxiety. His thoughts were swirling around and he seemed incredibly scared. Why did he feel nothing for these people? Well, nothing more than, "I just wanna be friends". Was there something wrong with him? He needed an answer so he looked up answers.

... Aroace. The lack of sexual or romantic attraction to anyone. This seemed to fit together within the puzzle pieces that was his confusing feelings. However, this just meant that he seemed to reject New York for no real reason. Mass wanted to apologize almost immediately. So one night after work, Mass sat New York down on the couch. Mass was pacing around the front of the couch, looking at anywhere and anything besides New York. New York got up and grabbed Mass by the shoulders.

"Mass, buddy! What's going on with you? Are you okay?" he asked, both genuinely curious and like he was losing patience.

"... I think I'm Aroace-"

"What?" New York asked, letting go of Mass's shoulder.

"Like I don't experience much romantic or sexual feelings for people. If at all. I really just see them as potential friends and that's the extent of it" Mass replied, sighing in relief.

New York looked at Mass and then his dating history for a moment, then nodded. "Makes sense. Think I'm Asexual myself" New York stated matter of factly. Mass looked shocked and asked how he came to that conclusion so quickly.

"Think about it. Sex kinda turns me off. I'd rather just go on a date or whatever. It sounds nicer than all that sexual crap" New York said, sitting on the couch and playing with his jacket.

"Date with Cali didn't go too well?" Mass asked.

"He was understanding. He's willing to keep trying, but he's not sure how we'll go about things" New York replied.

Mass did something that he hadn't done much in his life. He went up to New York and hugged him close. New York initially refused the contact, but then felt how firm and nicely Mass was hugging him. It felt... Warm. Inviting. Pleasant. New York hugged him back, leaning onto his shoulder. They hugged like this for a little while before letting go of each other and patting each other firmly on the back. Mass then looked up at the ceiling, asking why he felt like he was "broken". Not just from generational trauma, but just like... He felt like people were naturally evolved to desire romance and sexual attraction. He felt like now that he knew he was Aroace, that this was just another stab at him. To his parents.

"Mass, your parents sucked. Mine did too. We don't owe them shit. No grandkids, no explanation. Nothin'. We're adults living our own lives now. Right?" New York said affirmatively.

"... Right. I owe them nothing" Mass said, wiping some tears away.

The two just looked at each other with soft smiles and a silent "Thank you" was shared amongst the two, as they shook hands firmly. Mass went to his room and laid down on his bed. He stared up at the ceiling, looking at his Asexual flag tapestry. He felt slightly validated, but he felt like he should share his truth. Mass, unknowingly to others, had an Instagram. Other than a select few states that followed him (New York, California, Florida, Rhode Island, and Alaska for some reason), he was sure no one would see this. So, Mass made an Instagram story. He cleared his throat.

"So, after a lot of discovery. Lots of trial and error, I think I've finally come to a conclusion" Mass paused and moved to his Asexual flag. "I'm Aroace. I don't really feel much romantic or sexual attraction. Just feel like I'd like more friends in my life rather than partners of that caliber" Mass finished.

He took a deep breath and posted that to his Instagram. He put his phone down for a little bit and rested himself before a night shift. He only woke up an hour later, and saw that his Instagram was blowing up with followers and comments. They mostly seemed very validating and affirming, with... Of course, a few of those types of comments. Mass ignored those and focused on the positive ones, practically tearing up at reading some of them. Mass questioned where this sudden influx of popularity came from, only to see that Florida managed to blow the post up. A bunch of the other states were congratulating him for discovering himself and patting him on the back.

A few of his friends, like Rhode Island and Alaska, were defending him in the comments. He directed them to stop, as it would just be a pointless battle fought. They agreed to "for now", and Mass just sighed, rolling his eyes in a semi-annoyed fashion. He got dressed and went to work. A couple hours later, Mass returned home. Tired, sweaty, and ready to just collapse into bed... However, a few of the states were in New York's apartment waiting for him to return, along with New York himself. They all congratulated him, even making him an Aroace flag to hang up on his wall. Rhode Island and Alaska even confirmed that they themselves were Aroace too, showing pride flags of their own.

Yep. This was the moment. Mass dropped to his knees and started crying. This wasn't a cry filled with anxiety, anger, or sadness... This was happy crying. For once, Mass felt happy enough to cry happily. The others hugged him briefly, saying how proud they were of him.

"Especially since your folks always managed to tell ya to keep most of your feelings on the down low. Nothing was ever really open with you" Rhode Island commented.

"But hey. Even just opening up this little bit to us means the world. We appreciate it" Alaska said.

"... Thanks guys. It means a lot to know I'm not alone" Mass replied, wiping some tears away.

Everyone else, including him, all celebrated with some pizza and a movie or two to watch. They all had a fun time that evening, taking the edge off and just bantering with each other late into the night. Alaska, Rhode Island and Florida just ended up sleeping over with Mass and New York. None of them had anything to do the next day, so they all pulled an all-nighter. Talking, listening to music, playing videogames and doing whatever else they could until the sun came up. Mass had never felt so happy in his life. He had a close group of friends who all supported him no matter what. He truly felt like he had found his family.

i think he fits well as the wild character who was getting it on w all three of the others on some greek island . also because i love projecting wanted the story to make sense, micky is trans <3 i can't decide whether he was out when his kid was conceived and the Fathers knew, or if he's come out since and now its like surprise !!! that masc girl you got with 20 years ago is a guy now (and you still find him hot)

Mike as Sam -

basically mike is engaged and getting married too young to try n ignore the fact that he's gay, and obviously it's not going to be a very happy future for mike (or his fiance). and then he meets micky - so quick sidetrack here, i can't think of a way mike would get to greece? on his own? so either the whole story is actually just set in LA or cali wherever instead of greece OR micky gets w mike in california and then soon after goes to greece (this could work for the whole 'i came back 2 weeks later and you were gone' thing) - okay so yeah they have like a few weeks or aonth together? and they fall in love ofc, but then micky finds out about mike's fiance (phone call or letter or the classic finding a photo) and they fight and mike goes back (to texas? to his fiance anyways) and then yeah the whole 'i broke it off w my fiance and came back for you but you were already gone' thing - however that works out

Peter as Bill -

idk most of my reasoning here is that he's also a scandinavian hippy who would 100% just travel around in a boat if he could... he meets micky (if we're doing greece then they meet in greece and peter has a boat like bill does; if just cali then i think he's more of a roaming surfer) at like. the beach i guess, they have a fling for a couple noghts and then part amicably - i think peter's moving onto somewhere else, and they split as friends :)

Davy as Harry -

again my justification here is mainly that i can easily equate the characters - davy as a timid little queer-coded english guy isnt that hard to imagine lmao. anyways instead of how in the movie harry basically sleeps with donna to try n convince himself that ge's straight, this is davy having like. his first gay experience. i think if we do greece then they meet in greece bc davy's doing the whole english boy does the Med thing for like a gap year or whatever, and if we do cali then he's visiting the west coast from new england where he's doing broadway or uni or smth. either way they have like a one night stand, and davy afterwards somehow manages to briefly bump into peter - not knowing who he is of course but i think maybe pete helps him sort some stuff out (they probably meet in a bar or something)

uhhh in terms of the main storyline with the fathers showing up to the wedding, i'm just gonna leave sophie and skye as they are and have their same storyline lol .... that is not the focus here. obviously Sophie's dynamic w each of them will be different to the og dads:

i think mike is the one who teaches her some guitar and is all like omg... youre so quick to learn... and they have that cute little bond w him being a biiit awk over the whole 'micky's kid' thing but he gets over it eventually

peter teaches her about either the boat or surfing and they just have a super chill vibe.. he shows her some photos of him & mick in the hippy days (more later on time period setting)

okay so about time period setting:

as much as the original mamma mia is iconic for being in like a timeless little greek town, i think it's important to have the time period when all of them met (and sophie was conceived) be the late 60s, bc well. thats when the show characters existed & were young. that doesnt mean it would be specifically set in the late 80s or whatever bc again - timeless greek island (unless we do the beach of course which . idk what would happen w that id just not refer to current events) but yeah . summer of love etc <3

if i did end up writing this i'd probably change sophie's character up a liiittle just to make her more matched with what micky's kid would be like, but probably not skye bc he's a bit 2D anyways (would def change the names but idk what to)

i'd keep tanya&rosie as micky's friends bc theyre honestly perfect as is, and would include them in flashbacks pre much the same as in mm:hwga (rosie would fancy peter etc)

me and my friend had the atrocious idea of calling their trio 'micky and the minnies' instead of donna and the dynamos, which i would definitely not do but i DO think they should still have their singing group bc !!!! micky can sing boy !!!!! and i love the idea of him doing the whole glam rock glitter thing for sophie's hen party <3

anyways yeah plot pretty much stays the same, sophie & sky end up travelling instead of getting married, i dont think mike would outright propose to micky (ambiguous setting is suddenly a bit questionable once you start thinking abt gay marriage/recognition of trans people etc) but they def get together in a more private moment that same day.. im not saying peter/rosie endgame if anything it's tanya/rosie endgame and peter/davy endgame even if both are ambiguous bc i believe thats how the og movie shoulda worked out anyways >:)

this is absolutely batshit wild all over the place. and i think i need to actually write this AU now.... but lmk if you guys have any further thoughts !!
