The never-ending ache of love and sorrow. Perhaps in some other life I could have refused, could have torn my hair and screamed, and made him face his choice alone. But not in this one. He would sail to Troy and I would follow, even into death.

Such an underrated Achilles moment is him cutting off his hair to place in Patroclus' hands before lighting his funeral pyre. Like, listen listen listen, the main reason our boy grew his hair long at all is because his father promised it to the river-god Spercheus upon his safe return home. Please. Peleus promised to sacrifice his son's beautiful hair in exchange for his beautiful son's homecoming. And Achilles, fucking Achilles (beloved/beloathed), cuts it all off to give to Patroclus on his final journey, because he knows, he knows, the river-god won't fulfill his father's request. Because Achilles won't let him. Because in that moment, Achilles already knows he won't be coming home.

his dear boy :(
because I'm so so very normal about historical John Laurens, all the plants around him have some small semblance of meaning to them:
the left side includes common South Carolinian plants -- peach trees (SC actually produces more peaches than Georgia) and berry bushes of some sort (not entirely sure what kind, this is the first one I drew and I didn't save the reference because I wasn't yet attached to the plant symbolism)
the top includes olive and fig branches, which are both references to greek mythology -- specifically, Achilles and Patroclus and their relationship, since it parallels lams. (the figs especially are meant to show this cause they pop up several times in The Song of Achilles if I remember correctly, and are also considered symbols of sex/fertility)
the right side includes a not-so-subtly named plant called the Apple of Sodom. I found this article that explains the historical significance and symbolism of it -- unsurprisingly, lots of artists draw inspiration from the flower and what it represents. I also found it interesting that a) the flower is poisonous, creating a "deceitful" outwards appearance that doesn't match its true function (sounds familiar, hmmmm) and b) it's commonly found in (though not native to) St. Kitts and Nevis. fitting for Laurens and his relationship with Hamilton, I think

Thank you for reading and the support. I appreciate it a lot!
Hektor of Troy and Polydamas?
Very underrated if you asked me.
That is why you should enjoy this little story about them 😚:
"Even if Troy falls"
https://archiveofourown.org/works/65878690
Summary and more information under the cut:
Summary: Hektor disappears into his tower more often these days — not for rest, but for silence, for escape, for him. While the war outside Troy’s gates drags on, inside its walls another battle brews: the quiet war of duty against desire, tradition against change, and privilege against love. Polydamas was never meant to live in the world of princes. Hektor was never meant to fall in love with someone so far from what Troy expects.
But when the city turns against Polydamas and his family, and the fire isn’t just on the battlefield but at their doorstep, Hektor can no longer stay silent. Between ash-stained nights and blood-stained mornings, he must choose what kind of man he wants to be — not just for Troy, but for the only person who sees him for who he truly is.
This is not a story of glory. It’s a story of hands held in the dark, of whispered promises in the face of ruin, and of love that dares to exist where it was never meant to.

I’m just saying if they did make Muppets The Iliad, they couldn’t actually depict Achilles mowing Hector down and spearing him through the throat so instead how this would look is Animal dragging a very much alive Pepe the Prawn around in circles and laughing maniacally while an uncomfortable Kermit looks at the camera and does that face where the hand inside him clenches a little.

Odysseus @ Achilles
EDIT:
Ok, I’m seeing a lot of misunderstandings and people thinking this is my art. THIS IS NOT MY ART. I did mention this in the comments, but hindsight is 20/20. I wasn’t expecting this post to blow up so much, so I hadn’t put too much thought as to what it was going to put into the post. Anyways, here is the link to the art that this photo is from
