Reasons I appreciate Serai from Sea of Stars:
I love that the big reveal of her alter ego holds absolutely no narrative weight (at least so far). As I was playing I was like, "Okay, I know 'character with an incredibly obvious but somehow still secret identity' is a common trope, but really how has no one figured this out yet?" And then she admits it and the gang is just like, "Yeah, we figured that out immediately, but we just figured we'd let you pretend to have a secret for as long as you wanted." (I guess the name Captain Klee'shaë should have made it obvious that the writers were going to turn that trope on it's head.)
I also love the weird turn based combat scenario that is Serai's Ultimate. She just casually whips up a portal in the middle of battle, changes into her Captain outfit, parades her crew onto the bloody battlefield, does a little dance with them, then ushers her crew away again while the scene is littered with outlandishly huge cannonballs, all while the boss just chills like two feet away.

im kind of annoyed at seeing people say that turn based rpg's are back after seeing clair obscur: expedition 33 like this game is great and awesome but turn based games never really left. there's so many great turn based rpg's that came out recently and I refuse to let them go overlooked.
And before somebody comes here being like "Oh in clair obscur you have to react to hits instead of just standing there" I have some news for you and those are the fact that clair obscur is not the first turn based rpg to have this mechanic
where clair obscur is unique is that it's the first turn based rpg in a while to get this kind of popularity outside of any specific group such as jrpg spaces in a long time.
What i'm trying to say here is that if you like clair obscur and you're saying that the last rpg like this was final fantasy x then you are sorely mistaken and i have a lot of rpg's to show you

i love the idea that stan tried using a smoke bomb to spice up the mr mystery act for fancy entrances before realising he can just use it whenever and by that i mean mostly to escape the consequences of his actions
(+ frog!stan and mabel's attack glitter)

Clair obscur expedition 33 thoughts.
act 2 is definitely tougher than act 1. Verso's perfection rankings reminded me of DMC. His dynamic with Esqui was interesting. The jumping controls outside of combat sucks. Meet Sciel in a tournament gave me KH1 Olympus colliseum vibes.
its not really open world but exploration is pretty fun.
the opening in lumiere was effective in setting up the story.
i like how the members outside of your party are used as backups.
gradient counters feel unnecesary.

Fetch Gameplay Video
youtube
Hey Fetch-heads. I know it's been a while since I posted anything, school and life in general, as well as some really bad burnout have been holding back my progress on the game a lot the past few months. But, in that time, I did prepare this gameplay video! Here, I show off some general world exploration gameplay from a very early part of the game. Several aspects are unfinished (especially relating to sound), so expect things to be a little different whenever you finally get to play it for yourself. Thank you for sticking with me!
