also a special shoutout for real like wendy epic ableism moments when she stops talking directly to winston and expresses this is b/c he communicates too incorrectly (here too literally or whatever, once again whether he misinterpreted her or she misinterpreted him, it's put on him) and thus he doesn't deserve that
#winston billions#and i mean handshake with how winston's basically not considered allowed to talk at all by anyone out here#but like. alright we're not showing that winston is in the room mostly for a joke but even randos are like ''hmm. bit impolite'' lol#but once we do see him b/c he's speaking....like actually it Is heinously rude / diminishing / infantilizing to be spoken to indirectly#and The Behavior Is Inherently Ableist Here like ofc it's probably rude no matter what outside some kind of rly specific contexts lol but#that here she Is just implying he doesn't get to be spoken to b/c of some shortcoming / assumed lack of capacity#whatever she Does mean by ''see the matrix'' which is nothing but convenient vagueness abt Ability anyways#he's only here b/c she thinks he's annoying or w/e or otherwise extrinsically showing lack of value (can't be ableism there....)#and like winston and any other character is like. it's not textual sure but it doesn't need to be Textually Labeled#and sometimes can't be when ppl absolutely write based of ppl they know / encounter but don't know are autistic or etc#and that's how it works irl too. someone being Officially(tm) Autistic or smthing shouldn't be some necessary disclosure#b/c it's about The Underlying Principles At Play vs making some approved ''exceptions.'' if he's supposedly allistic it's still sm shit.#like how trans ppl & transphobia could exist prior to those terms even existing to be used. ppl are affected by them w/o being Out....#& btw like ppl still saying some shit like ''some autistic ppl will just be Bad At / Have No Social Skills & you have to be chill abt it''#like what does [social skills] mean here. what's the underlying element of socializing that they may do differently but you say is a Worse#or Absent version of the ''normal'' way of going about things. even if you actually get specific enough abt what a ''skill'' is; which is#gonna be a non universal non rule probably inaccurate idea of a Normal(tm) pattern of behavior/approach; sure maybe some ppl will struggle#to do that or largely/entirely not be able to do it / be unwilling to do it; gasp; what's its goal/effect & do they pursue/achieve that#another way. e.g how much AAC could be considered inherently ''bad'' re socializing or a lack of w/e ''skills'' or etc.#then like ok so once again a begrudging exception for autistic ppl is made. what's ''being okay with'' that even look like then? is anyone#gonna be using their ''good social skills'' to more successfully interact w/them? is Not socially excluding / ostracizing / punishing an#autistic person an Exception / something Extra you heroically do? e.g. & so what if some theoretical person isn't socially engaging w/other#ppl in any way. what do & don't they ''deserve'' differently from others b/c of that.#& anyways meanwhile they're certainly talking abt winston's Capabilities. but mostly talking around it b/c the point is He Gets Results &#will keep getting those results b/c why wouldn't he. but they can just cite anything to argue why oh but he doesn't Really have the value#cue vague shit like matrix refs b/c if he was Reeally talented we'd think he acts right. b/c Any bs can be said b/c winston doesn't have#the insulation or backup or ability to independently wield/gain social status his way through this shit. is only allowed to talk to#coworkers abt it by making it abt taylor actually (which is also true). still only makes it b/c rian is correctly remaining in the#acceptable range of being offbeat. so she already has more power than him & can choose to keep him around as that fun punching bag ig yay#then nobody cares. also he can't say he controls an instrument but Others refer to ''genius'' but negatively. wendy rhoades Would do ABA fr

I think it’s so interesting that Kui decided to show us how differences in lifespan affect tallmen and elf relationships from both angles with Kabru and Thistle and also how that reflects real-life abusive situations. And then goes on to deconstruct that by showing how genuine understanding and respect CAN exist between the races with other characters!
Kabru being raised by an elf (who is shown to only have a superficial respect for short-lived races, the same one might have for a pet in a lot of ways) and treated like a child even though he’s in his 20s. After all, a 20 year old elf would be a kindergartener, and Milsiril seems to have a rather toxic combination of overprotectiveness and dehumanizing tendencies that leads to perpetually seeing the children she raises as children, even well into adulthood for their race.
And yet, we see with characters like Otta that this doesn’t have to be true of EVERY elf (nor should it logically be, especially those who spend actual time around short-lived races.) For all the jokes made at her expense I actually think it’s really interesting that she’s also canonically queer since recognizing the agency and maturity of short-lived races is in itself a type of queerness in elf society from what we’ve seen. Senshi too, as funny as his misconstruing Chilchuck as a child is I think it’s really important that he realizes his mistake and rethinks his assumptions on short-lived races following his example. It doesn’t HAVE to be the way it is, but it will take work on each side to improve things.
Then on Thistle’s end… woof. Complete opposite of Kabru, it was difficult for the tallmen of the golden kingdom to comprehend how someone in their, like, 60s could still behave like a teenager and chalked that up to a personal and moral failing rather than literal differences in biology (kind of an autistic mood but that’s a conversation for later.) It’s just as disturbing as Milsiril’s treatment of the children she adopts really, since they explicitly didn’t want an adult that could exert their own agency and control over their situation. And the thing is it’s not like that’s totally uncalled for, the previous points show how a non-insignificant number of members of long-lived races do genuinely see short-lived races as inferior, or are otherwise ignorant, like with below.
Tumblr media
It ended up working out just how they wanted, because Thistle’s child-like innocence and singleminded desire to make the only family he had happy meant he was never going to do anything he didn’t think would help them… which then backfired, because of course it would. It’s overcontrolling and manipulative parenting, but with the added spice of lifespan differences and magic. Kabru ended up detesting the elves that raised him and wanting nothing to do with them, and Thistle basically had a massive breakdown trying too hard to please everyone. Infantilization vs adultification, as some have said, with predictable results.

I've been scrolling through your blog, and I saw your post about discussing the racialized nature of gender. As someone who has several transmasc POC friends, and someone who's a nonbinary POC themself, I wanted to give my 2 cents.
It's important to understand that "woman" in the "man vs woman" gender binary is a colonialist, white supremacist construct, especially in Western countries where you are the numerical minority. My trans friends aren't on T, they haven't gotten top surgery, we are all quite young. But they all have numerous stories about being addressed as "sir" which brings them euphoria but as one person said, while we were making fun of the amount of white people in our club, "Due to my race and skin color, I get masculinized."
And again I'd like to emphasize, that since we're young, none of us really have medically transitioned due to financial and familial barriers. Their hair is long, our binders we definitely have notable chests, and even if they dress masculine, it's notable that no one in our communities would ever gender us properly. It's often white people calling them "sir." Again, I think this reflects how gender performances in mainstream queer communities are deeply White. Like, trans boys talk about having haircuts, but only one of my friends has that wavier, more manageable hair that will help them pass. When you've got curly/kinky hair, the standards are different. For a white person, what's the difference between a "girl" Afro and a boy "Afro"? White cis people have a harder time identifying us, and literally talk to any black girl, and they'll tell you about being mocked, dehumanized, and called "manly".
I don't have much else to say. These are just my personal experiences. But if you want to be an ally to POC in the queer community, this is why it's so fucking important to bring in colonialism/imperialism/white supremacy into discussions of queer liberation. My biggest gripe with ignorant white queers is when they ignore their white privilege, and act like "cishets" (AKA the patriarchal system regulating sexuality and gender) is the only enemy. Because cishet POC deal with plenty of shit with being infantilized, masculinized, feminized, seen as brutish & dangerous, the list goes on. Doberbutts had a post saying, "Believe me, your family's going to care more about me being black than my queerness." towards his white partners. Acknowledging and creating a framework that centers these intersections of queerness and race into your beliefs is true allyship. This is why if you're not anti-imperialist, anti-capitalist, ACAB...I do not think you care for queer liberation. None of us are free until all of us are free.
Please don't view this post as an attack. But this is my perspective, and I thought you'd be receptive to me sharing my lived experiences.
Oh I absolutely don't view this ask as an attack, and I really appreciate you bringing these things up because you're right! Like, just very plainly: You are right and your and your friends lived experiences are extremely important to the conversation on the racialized aspects of gender.
It gets me thinking about where Misogynoir and the social White Fear of Black manhood intersect for Black trans men in particular. Because Black women and Women of Color in general are masculinized by White gender standards and the ways in which Black trans masculine people are gendered in alignment with their identity is absolutely not always done with gender affirming intent. In fact, it's often actually done with racist intent or is fueled by racist bias when it's coming from White people or even from non-Black POC.
That's kind of restating things you've said but differently, it's just such a topic worth highlighting explicitly since it's extremely relevant to the conversation that's been happening about Male Privilege here the last few days.
I do think I know exactly what @doberbutts post you're talking about and yeah. It's just truth. It's something Black queer people have been talking about for ages in both theory and in pop culture (my mind immediately goes to Kevin Abstract and "American Boyfriend") where Black queer/trans identity is both materially different from (neutral) and is treated differently from (negative) White queer/trans identity in multitudes of ways and those differences are worth sharing and exploring and talking about.
Genuinely, thank you for sharing! I try really hard not to lead these kinds of conversations outside of explicitly referencing back to non-White theorists because I don't particularly feel like it's my place to do so, but I will always provide a platform for them because they're extremely important conversations to be had.

Was thinking of something you said about Luci. Like him crying when he sees you coming you back to the hotel all marked up. Even better idea, him regularly spying on you using the orbs/balls from episode 6. Probably started as a way to learn more about you and make sure you're safe but quickly became something else....
Like you say him seeing you after? How about him watching you get fucked crying his eyes out and touching himself?
Like he's so upset it's not him, but he can't NOT watch and listen! He needs to see what you like so he can be perfect for you, and make sure you're safe. So what if he touches himself? How can he not when it's you he's watching and hearing? Even if it's with some sinner scum.
I misread Luci as Lucci and I was like "HOW DO Y O U KNOW I'VE BEEN THINKING ABOUT ROB LUCCI, I HAVEN'T EVEN POSTED ABOUT MY CP0 READER X LUCCI ESPIONAGE IDEA YET--"
I was thinking about Lucifer, you know, how we tend to think of him as Charlie's dad and just "the Devil" but I think we can kind of forget, he's also the Cardinal Sin of Pride, and I keep brainstorming on how he's probably INSANELY JEALOUS AND POSSESSIVE AND WOULD BE TRYING TO IMPRESS YOU ALL THE TIME
Can you even imagine like. He's peeping on you getting railed by someone twice your size and that person can absolutely scoop you up and throw you around with how big they are and here's Lucifer uncomfortably reminded of how short he is. bonus points if before this you and him had an argument and you shit all over his height just to piss him off and now he's seeing you fuck some huge dude. Give him that emotional damage with the backstab buff
The thing with Lucifer is that, he's short, yeah, but like. He's also ungodly strong. I'm too lazy to link the post but people have pointed out that he literally was not even remotely phased when Adam was throwing him against a building and trying to hurt him, like actual frames of Lucifer just kinda sitting there o.o, totally unbothered. And this could go one of two ways! You could get protected and rescued by him and, he scoops you up into his arms and that makes YOU feel small (in a sexy way)
OR
you kinda like, not infantilize him per se, but you figure, since he's "this little goober" that he would never like, ACTUALLY do anything scary, but. Honey he's a grown man who wants you as a serious partner and he's extremely prideful and attached to you and you're, constantly picking other people over him 💀💀💀 you're irritating him on purpose, you're giving him sass, you're FUCKING OTHER DUDES and I can see him totally snapping, "you think I'm not serious about you?! I'll show you!!" and just, yoinks you up, snatches you away, you're magically appearing either AT THE ALTAR WITH HIM LIKE, WEDDING WITH AN ENTIRE AUDIENCE, or straight into his bed where he proceeds to show you exactly why he deserves to be your king
(Tbh I've grown a sudden uh, taste for "yandere character suddenly reveals they're gonna marry you" and I mean with a whole ass engagement ring and WEDDING especially for Lucifer and Alastor recently 😩 WAIT LUCILILI POLY WEDDING-)
Still obsessed with "i bet she doesn't even see me as a man" Lucifer vs "he definitely doesn't even see me as a woman haha I'm gross :)" Reader where little Luci Goosey finds out you're just, straight up either hating yourself or have been rejected too many times to even find yourself desirable, and the second he realizes it's not even him that's 'the problem', he's taking matters into his own hands. Like something slips out of your mouth, "why would anyone want me, I'm, I'm dorky and stupid and gross and ugly" and Lucifer is just like, "OH!!! Aw honey you just have depression :) oh golly we have so much in common--"
I also just. Really like the idea that he's basically got full control over Hell and can get in your head and know what you're thinking and feeling if he REALLY wants to. Got another ask in my drafts I'm about to get to that delves more into the idea of him and Lilith HELLA abusing their dream controlling/pocket dimension powers in a definitely not "you didn't know you had a secret second life in your dreams that was 100% real" kinda way...

Hi! I just thought I’d throw my hat into the ring with the whole conversation about the whole tails being willing to use his weapons more if it wasn’t for sonics interruption because as much as admit that some people can take it to far (just like on any side of the fandom with any character or idea) I think the actual idea of it is being misinterpreted.
The idea that I’ve seen always centres around how they respect each other, tails before he met sonic is a knowledges by multiple sources that he had a rough upbringing before he met sonic, this is mainly shown through the bullying that has left such an impact on his self-esteem he’s still dealing with it in recent games and still trying to overcome it. Tails is also skilled in making weapons, things he can use to defend himself and his friends.
Now no one’s saying that sonic known about the weapons or that he’s a weapons expert because that isn’t really what the head canon is about and I’ve never really seen anyone say that to be honest? The head canon mainly comes form the idea of ‘what if something went wrong and his friends were hurt and tails saw it as a last option’ this brings us back to tails upbringing
And as much as some people like to make him act more mature this is still an eight year old child who for half of his life basically was bullied so bad that it’s still impacting him. The headcanon usually (it can vary from person to person) makes tails feel the need to defend the people or things that have defended him. Mainly sonic usually.
So since tails is smart it’s only natural that he’d be quicker to the opinion ‘if I took the threat out I’d never have to deal with it again’ because it’s the most logical conclusion. I think where the head canon is mainly misinterpreted is that I don’t think anyone’s saying that tails is using his weapons on every single opponent or every single threat that comes his way. From what I’ve seen is that if it comes down to the last few options in a split second his mind will go to that logical conclusion.
However, sonic basically raised him. Sonic wouldn’t even have to literally point out what tails is doing (most of the time) because tails stops himself, because Tails knows that what he’s doing is something against his own moral code
It’s the way sonic raised him and it’s the way tails lives his life.
I think the headcanons mostly just ‘survival instinct vs moral code’ and I think that’s why people like it so much, it’s less about tails being reliant on sonic (which is what I think it’s being misinterpreted as) and more Tails respecting the way sonic raised him and the moral code he was raised to believe in to not forget it even in the heat of a battle
I apologise if I'm blunt, but you're missing the forest for the trees with all this.
This post wasn't really about Tails' willingness to use weapons. Rather, it was about fans' penchant for infantilizing Tails to the point of exaggeration, despite him showing capabilities even before Sonic showed up in his life. Tails has been enriched by Sonic, he's even said as much, but there was never an indication in the games that he would become a psychopath without him.
It removes too much agency on Tails' part for the sake of leaning too hard on Sonic's ability to affect others around him. No amount of headcanons and "well, he is a kid"-style justifications can salvage Tails straight up being done dirty. Rationalizing it is all very well in the realm of fanfiction, but not so much when dealing with the official work proper, when everything has already came, went, and influenced fandom mentality for the worse.

LGBTQ+ Disabled Characters Showdown Round 1, Wave 1, Poll 8
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A character being totally canon LGBTQ+ and disabled was not required to be in this competition. Please check qualifications and propaganda before asking why a character is included.
Check out the other polls in this wave here.
Renarin Kholin- The Stormlight Archive
Qualifications:
Renarin is canonically autistic and gay (or at least MLM).
He's canonically autistic + has epilepsy, and he's been confirmed to be gay and have a crush on a male character (which will.be explored more in future books)
Canonically gay as confirmed by word-of-god; canonically autistic and has anxiety.
Renarin is canonically autistic and gay.
Propaganda:
Renarin is one of few characters in epic fantasy literature who's canonically neurodivergent or queer - it's rare enough to just see one of those things! He is also the best, just all around. He is so reckless and has such a strong moral compass: like he ran to help fight a giant crab monster with no weapons, no armor, and no training; he jumped into a 4vs1 duel to help his brother, with no armor, no training, and a sword that deals him psychic damage anytime he holds it.
He's autistic and gay; disability is a big part of his story; he's so much of an outcast that he was the first person to join his world's extra-marginalized order of sinister-but-not-evil magic users; and while he's quiet and self-contained, he's full to the brim with suppressed rage. Sidelined second son and quasi-cursed prophet. I fully believe he can take this tournament by storm.
Renarin is autistic, epileptic, and queer as the day is long. As a kid, he struggled to win his dad's approval due to his inability to fight as well as his abled brother -- but these days his dad's wised up and realized that Renarin actually kicks ass. When Renarin gets magic powers, he isn't "cured"; he's still epileptic, he's still autistic, and he still has a crush on the strapping young alien lad in his squad. Not only does he break down class barriers by hanging out with ex-slave humans (he's the prince of a major kingdom), he breaks racial barriers by dating an alien who's entire race was, until recently, enslaved by humans. Overall, he's a complete badass who is getting more confident, more appreciated, and more gay with every book in the series.
Loam Arnault-Entropic Float
Qualifications:
she canonically has arthritis and chronic fatigue, and is canonically bisexual and omnigender (using all pronouns)
They're chronically disabled (dont remember their condition :() omnigender, and pan!
i don’t remember what it is (or if that’s even said) but his disability gives her trouble walking some days and on others makes it so they can’t get out of bed. bisexual &nonbinary omnigender!
Canonically disabled, nonbinary omnigender and bisexual
Propaganda:
listen. i love him. oh my god i love aer. their disability and queerness are both central to the narrative. due to it being disabled, she is not taken seriously where he comes from. xe has given up on insisting on its gender being respected - every time thon tries, its taken as a sign he is having a bad day symptoms wise, which in turn is taken as though she has never grown up past being eight years old. through the game proper, it hides hir disability most of the time. to ask for help is to let someone know. and throughout their entire life, everyone who knew has treated him as stupid - perhaps not always, but everyone has. this is why she doesnt really want to get out of the anomaly; this is the first time fae has had friends who dont know, and therefore dont have "a reason" to infantilize it. star hides everything behind a chipper demeanour. well, that demeanour isnt entirely a lie; she is really silly and pleasant - one of my favourite things he says in the entire game is "isnt blue super bad for computers? like blue balls of death or something?". upon being asked "where do you come from that computers have balls?", they respond "well, how do they reproduce if they dont?" in conclusion. Loam my beloved.
silly guy... oh he's a lil bit fucked up actually
:3
I’m disabled and queer and Loam makes me feel so seen. He’s an incredible character, I love her dearly, I need everyone to understand how incredible they are.
The qualifications and propaganda correspond, @prinxe-with-no-crown is the first submitter @mythologeekwriter is the fourth and there were two others.

the mikaelson siblings dynamic is so fucked bc they all think they’re the black sheep. like first klaus is the black sheep bc he’s a bastard and hybrid. then finn’s a black sheep cause he’s the creepy quiet boring brother (with a large age gap to the younger ones). then freya’s the black sheep cause she’s the long lost sister they never met raised by their weirdo auntie. then kol’s the black sheep cause he’s the only witch and a ripper. you could even say rebekah’s the black sheep not on surface level being that she’s the favourite and adored by all, but how she’s infantilized and can never be in the boys club. elijah is the only one who i’d say fits closely to what the parents and siblings want/expect from a family member: to be reliable and level headed and logical but still loyal to a fault. and even he breaks that illusion with the red door and off the rails arc that is s4-5 elijah. henrik died before we ever got to know him but he seems to be loved perfectly by all of them.
the ironic thing about klaus as a protagonist and his major fear that he is categorized as other is that all the people he’s afraid see him that way also feel that way about themselves. but they all think that they’re the worst version, that their exclusion is the most real.
and in truth it’s actually finn.
+ aside from their general feelings of being black sheep there’s also an additional layer of feelings of exclusion based around the always and forever vow, which obviously impacted finn and kol throughout their centuries. idk if freya knew or heard anything about it before s2, but i do think in s3 she felt less than for her lack of history with klaus and the difference in his treatment of her and rebekah (which i attribute to older sister vs little sister dynamics and the fact that he’s still getting to know her)

It's kind of funny that the tf2 fandom is split into a bunch of different groups, like the stark difference between how more straight male dominated side of the community with r/tf2 only ever ironically post about 'gay buff men' vs how the tumblr/ao3 side of the community sincerely want to fuck these geriatric men
I would honestly split it up even further. Here's my analysis of how different types of people in the tf2 community and how they treat the physicality of the tf2 guys:
r/tf2 type who "ironically" posts about gay buff men and femboy Scout and whatever. Spent seventy real, live, American dollars the Burly Beast "as a joke". If not closeted gay or trans, this type is at least a closeted ally.
r/tf2 type who finds any sexualization of the tf2 men to be viscerally repulsive, even "as a joke." Can be split up even further into "depicts the tf2 guys all as saggy old men for weird comedy purposes" and "depicts the tf2 guys all as muscle-bound Greek gods for weird masculinity purposes". Either way, this is a guy who gets mad at the Gnarliest Garb.
Tf2blr type who is attracted to the tf2 guys, but only if they ascribe to more socially conventional standards of masculine attractiveness. Think, 2014-ish fandom years. Medic is a buff-slim 30-something-lookin ass with the personality of a businessman daddy dom archetype. He's most often straight, but sometimes bi. Other characters, like Sniper and Spy, are also inexplicably muscle-bound daddy doms obsessed with y/n. Everyone else is ignored.
Tf2blr type who is attracted to the tf2 guys, but only through an odd, outdated, "yaoi sin bucket" type of fandom culture standard of masculine attractiveness. Sniper and Spy are thin, curvy, pale, hairless 20-something sexyboys who yaoi out with each other.
Tf2blr type who is attracted to the tf2 guys when presented as saggy old men (or yknow, Tumblr's idea of "old men". No one in tf2 is "geriatric", Medic's like. fifty, maybe sixty). This is the most modern type, and is probably what you, dear reader, are most familiar with. This isn't a type immune of its problems, honestly, I find it susceptible to honestly many of the pitfalls of the previous types (an almost infantilized, misogynistic way of treating characters deemed to be "babygirl", and on the other end of the spectrum, a reactionary, imo homophobic push to Protect The Masculinity of the tf2 guys by insisting that they're BUFF and HAIRY and not fa- I mean "twinks") and its own new issues (conflating a man being a little chubby with "being old". "Demo should have a beer belly because he's Old" actually he probably isn't old and even if he's not, a beer belly is not a "sign of aging", anyone can look like that). Either way, I do appreciate its prevalence now. If it means we can fucking Finally stop drawing Medic tf2 with a six pack I'll die happy

I've been watching that Korean drama with the Autistic attorney, and what I like about it, is even when the plot is not at all about autism, it is still *about* autism. So far it seems like every episode tackles something different about life with autism.
Ep 1 finding a job is hard. Learning the social rules at new job is hard.
Ep 2 Becoming psychologically independent from your parents because their expectations from you don't match the real you, with two brief allusions to how clothing is hard for autistic people (both in social understanding and texture bad)
Ep 3 Autism is a spectrum but people with vastly different experiences with autism get grouped together anyway. A person seen as highly intelligent is actually struggling with school to the point of suicidality. People online give hate speech about autistic people and we just have to deal with it. Asperger's Nazi etymology.
Ep 4 How friendships form when you are Autistic. Being manipulated by the people you trust (especially family)
Ep 5 People lie, how to tell, and how to deal with it. Also the autistic character is seen as erratic to the point of being called "Wild Card."
Ep 6 Spending all your time trying to do something difficult only at the end having to have pointed out there was a much easier way. (Admittedly this a stretch. The episode seems more to set up drama about the main character's origins.)
Ep 7 Metaphors, figures of speech, all the non-literal language, and desperately trying to follow along and getting left behind. When someone else os just better than you and you can't possibly compare and have to work around awkwardly.
Ep 8 acting with integrity vs acting in a political manner. Being shielded from hard things as a form of infantilization.
Ep 9 Children get treated terribly but it's in a way that is supported by the current social systems so the harm isn't stopped at all despite people advocating for it.
Ep 10 People with developmental disabilities being infantilized and seen as completely incapable of having romantic or sexual relationships. Having a relationship with someone with someone with a developmental disability is assumed to be predatory and abusive.
But seriously I think it's really cool how it stays com topic" with autism while still doing other stuff. Like with episode 2 and 9, while there are clear parallels to autistic experiences, those experiences are not being sexperienced by our autistic character. This is still good and important, because autistic people are still human, and autistic experiences are part of human experiences.
I'm seriously would recommend any autistic person to watch it because it just feels so nice to be seen/represented. (Of course if you don't like it that's fine too.)

The main critique I've seen about Oppenheimer is that it leaves out minority history & is altogether a bit historically inaccurate. It drives me up a fucking w a l l because honest to fucking god what do they expect. It was made by a massive Hollywood studio, and in general these things are never historically accurate. And if Oppenheimer is going to get trashed for being a historically inaccurate & racist Hollywood telling then uh. I guess every historical hollywood movie shouldn't be watched either. I'm tired of people expecting Hollywood blockbusters to educate the population.
This mentality makes me so fucking irritated. Like lets run through the most common accusations, shall we?
-"its historically inaccurate" what part of "dramatization" did you not understand? Does every single portrayal of a historical event have to be 100% cold and accurate for it to be valid? Must everything be in textbook format? This film wasnt meant to be an educational piece, it was meant to be an exploration of the questions of morality and complicated geopolitics that surrounded the very complicated man who built the atom bomb. It's an artistic rendition, not a fucking documentary.
-"it leaves out x history" yeah, because it wasnt ABOUT that history. It was about oppenheimer. Why are you acting so shocked and scandalized that the movie called Oppenheimer was a biopic about Dr. Oppenheimer? Every single one of these accusations are about issues that even the irl Dr. Oppenheimer had nothing to do with.
-"movies about historical sad white men are bad." So did you come up with that chronically reductionist take on twitter or all by yourself? Because i dont know which would be worse. Extremely progressive of you to be out here fighting on the front line that matters the most: judging a 3 hour densely packed hollywood blockbuster biopic based on its cover. I hate to break this to you but people like Dr. Oppenheimer ARE very interesting historical figures due to the conditions around them, not because they were sad white men who felt bad about their roles in it or whatever. Extremely ironic to me that the same crowd morally posturing about how X Issue Film wasnt Y Issue Film are out here cutting themselves off from entire chunks of historical context because they dont fit into their neat little narratives of right and wrong, perpetrator vs victim dichotomies.
-"people are going to watch it and think the bombs were good" uh oh, someone hasnt actually seen the film and is assuming what its about! Along with the infantilizing assumption that the target audience of a nolan film is too stupid to have any critical thought of their own! You ever hear of the phrase "every accusation is a confession"? I think it applies here.

the GANG
for the deep sigh, i couldn't find any pictures of peter with orange hair (the actual design choice that makes me sigh in suffering) lol and aside from that his appearance tends to be... pretty consistent... but that peter is the next worse thing i guess... (idk why, the vibes are just off)
the only "sighs deeply" that's strictly writing related is mary jane (though gwen's general perception as it relates to that style of angelic haziness would also qualify but i wasn't thinking of any specific comic as much as an Ideal when i picked that cover, idk if the comic it's from is any good)— i just really. don't like marvel knights spider-man. I DO like the scene where MJ shoots norman with a gun but other than that her characterization bugged the hell out of me. it felt very infantilizing and condescending...
for the others it's mostly just me being like... ugh... not pretty enough (or too pretty in harry's case 😂 too afraid to make him scrunkly 😔)
i also haven't seen any of the cartoons so i just picked the one i like the art direction on the best and that my friends like LMAO
and for popular i just picked random comics written by dan slott (except for gwen lol) cause idk what each character's most popular appearance ever is and i am not about to try to figure it out lmao
anyway, i didn't make it specifically the au, this is just my default way of drawing them all, except my default... kinda is the au even for the suit, with the main difference mostly being like... peter's nose... flash's hair... small details...

1, 6 and 7 for the choose violence ask game
1. the character everyone gets wrong
I was going to say Raava and Vaatu, but unfortunately I think that doesn’t count because I’m comparing to my own convoluted headcanons, not canon. Although I think they’d be far more interesting if Raava was treated as an unreliable narrator and LoK explored more on Vaatu’s impact on the seasons past 2.
As far as fandom vs canon, I’d say Azula. I find the two popular stances on her are either that she’s inherently evil and deserves the awful ending she had, or that she’s an innocent cinnamon roll who did nothing wrong. I find both stances to be pretty ableist-because one demonizes her, especially with the kind of language and arguments those fans use, and the other infantilizes her. I think she’s a far more complex character than that.
6. which ship fans are the most annoying?
I have to say that most popular ships in the AtLA fandom have really insufferable fanbases (except sukka, which I find to be really chill), but Zutara fans bother me the most.
7. what character did you begin to hate not because of canon but because of how the fandom acts about them?
Hmmm I must say Zuko, unfortunately </3. I do love him still but his fanon self is incredibly out of character-I fear he suffers HARDCORE infantilization from his fans. Either that, or people treat him like he’s an irredeemable shitbag and redemption arcs are Bad actually in retaliation to the first fans. So I guess I don’t hate Zuko, but I dread all conversation about him.

one of my biggest peeves with monster high fans is how jackson and holt are handled a lot of the time. like, one of my TOP headcanons is that they are transmasc, BUT there are people who make it so only JACKSON is and holt is fully cis?? because jackson is their ”uwu im a skinny little boye” man (which is another rant i could give) while holt is their bad boy popular dude who CLEARLY is an asshole and can’t POSSIBLY be trans (again, a rant i have) but like… how??? does that work???? when they switch is there smth like the sound of a balloon blowing up or a slide whistle?????
second, when artists tend to draw jackson as this skinny small twink bitch and holt as this massive chad of a man with muscles and height and shit, when 1. they’d have the same body type—it’s one body, and the shape of their body would be the same and 2. though the SHAPE stays the same, HOLT would be noticeably shorter. classic hyde is short as FUCK and looks so weird and doesnt even fit into jekyll’s clothes (and jackson/holt vs henry/edward is something else i could go ON about)
THIRD, i think i WILL say smth about what i mentioned in part one. how people make jackson the skinny scrawny cant possibly hold his own type of guy!!! this is less in art and more of in fanfiction, but still something i wanna say. a lot of people when WRITING jackson tend to uwuify or kinda infantilize him, making him very nervous around people or constant stuttering (i do hc he has a stutter but not to the extent people will write him) and very ”idk how to talk to anyone!!” when in the monster high show he is one of the SMOOTHEST motherfuckers ive seen (“i dont care who’s here, as long as i get to sit next to you” is one of his best lines tbh) and in the movies he actually stands UP for himself, meanwhile holt is a MASSIVE asshole who says slurs and does some borderline sketchy stuff (and then there are the times where theyre shipped together and/or weirdly sexualized but im not getting into THAT.) when in canon… holt’s one of the most funky ass little man ever. hes depressed as fuck in his diary. he has aggression problems but tries to work on them and just wants to give people a good time. and imo JACKSON’S more athletic than he is
i know everyone has their headcanons and im in no way saying you cant have them but these are my opinions on how theyre generally portrayed in fandom

You know about the Japan thing, I think a lot of westerners (especially ones who grew with anti American sentiments) don’t realize how brutal imperial Japan was. Iirc the Nazis told them to fucking calm down with their crimes against humanity (yes we all get the irony)
Also there a difference between usually guilt ridden Germany to what the Nazis does. Vs the Japanese government have tantrums when people bring up the atrocities they did during the war.
And yes they have changed, Japan xenophobia back in the day (and in some cases in modern times) make some of the hardcore western racists look tame.
The atomic bombs were a brutal decision, but dear god what with infantilizing of Japan during ww2? Do people look up unit 731? That some nightmare shit even the most morally bankrupt cia scientist could only imagine doing
People who love to bleat about "trusting experts" sure do love ignoring people who have actually studied history when they're talking about history. Though that makes sense, considering the all out attack on real history that's coming from the woke progressive front these days.
People can't admit that America was ever not the worst country in the world. It's, ironically, a very America-centric viewpoint. They're happy to bring up the Japanese internment camps and the illegal immigrant detention centers--which themselves are massively different things--and compare them all day to the Nazi concentration camps. But when you bring up the gulags or things like Unit 731 or even the Chinese Uyghur concentration camps, they don't want to hear it. They claim those things are propaganda or that they were actually good, as I've seen more than a few tankies say about the gulags. America needs to be the big bad guy for these people at all times, because they interact with the world the way children do. Good is always good and never anything but. Bad is always bad and never anything but. And they are the sole arbiters of what good and bad are.

i feel like so many facets in jack’s character that are narratively supposed to attribute to his internal conflict have been woobified and infantilized so extensively that nobody can even register them as actual struggles—like the entire thing about his age vs his life experience. on a physical/mental/emotional level jack is developed to his early 20’s and has all the capabilities of a young 20-something year old, but because he hasn’t actually lived through 20-something years and lacks the experience necessary to having good judgment and a good understanding of how to respond/react appropriately.
and the thing is, jack did choose to be an adult, but had no way of knowing that he’d have to deal with all of this as a result of that. he made his decision on the basis that the world was too dangerous for him to be younger, but Kelly likely never made him feel as if he would potentially be dangerous because of his powers. like I’ve said before, jack is almost entirely unaware that they aren’t a normal human for the entire first episode up until Dean tells the sheriff they’re a nephil. all they knew is that they heard voices and got freaked out and that “things” (sheriff barker getting launched into the vending machine) happened when they got freaked out.
adding onto this, another facet of Jack’s character is wanting to prove his worth or capabilities to others. he wants to be part of the team and be strong enough to protect people, all of which ties into his core desire to be Good and Safe and prove that to the guys, and he expresses extreme frustration and anger at himself when he naively trusts the wrong person (asmodeus, duma), misjudges a situation or overreacts in a way that harms someone else (the tombstone security guard, the Gas’n’Sip employee) because it outwardly proves to his father figures that he isn’t good or safe or worth their love+effort, and while the basis for Jack’s character and conflict is Nature vs Nurture, it also revolves around a struggle for autonomy—particularly his struggle to be more than what his own existence even allows him to be, and I think that’s the thing people horribly misunderstand or purposely ignore about jack and this particular struggle.
it’s not about jack wanting to be a normal kid (he actually very much just wants to be a normal teenager). it’s about the fact that jack has a limited life experience which clouds his judgement, lends to his naivety, and leads him to making the wrong choices and react inappropriately and hurt people without meaning to and further playing into why everyone is afraid of him. it’s about the fact that jack wants to be good and safe and strong and protect others (which are both already conflicting idealizations), and he’s angry when when the factors of his existence lead him to fucking up and registering him as a threat when he very adamantly doesn’t want to be a threat.
jack doesn’t want to be a normal child and none of their problems would disappear if he was one. they want to be capable of having self control and protecting the people they care about (re:, “what’s the point of having these powers if I can’t use them to help the people I care about? it’s selfish of me not to”), and he wants to have better judgement to understand what the right thing is in a situation and make the appropriate choice/reaction. the horror lies in the fact that he inherently does not have any of that. because of Jack’s naivety, he doesn’t have good judgment and he is incredibly dangerous regardless of the effort he puts into being safe, and frankly it’s weird to infantilize that particular aspect of his character (and every aspect, but this especially) the way this fandom has
