What's the worst legacy sequel you've ever seen? What, in your opinion, separates a good legacy sequel from a bad legacy sequel and what's the worst thing you think a legacy sequel can do?

The worst that I've seen is probably Rise of Skywalker. It's close competition, though - both Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and Jurassic World: Dominion have moments that are significantly more stupid than anything in Rise of Sky Walker, but I also think both have a bit more creative effort put into them - Fallen Kingdom has that third act where it basically becomes a Resident Evil adaptation except with a murder-saurus in place of the Tyrant, and Dominion has the whole locust plotline which, while terrible, is at least an unexpected direction for a Jurassic Park sequel to go into that tries to figure out something ELSE you could do with the genetic engineering premise of the franchise beyond just making dinosaurs. Like, all three Jurassic World movies have big problems and they get progressively dumber with each installment, but they're also all ambitious to some degree that I still feel respect for, even if they never really actually reach those lofty aspirations.

Rise of Skywalker, on the other hand, has no ambitions at all. It has nothing it wants to say, no unique twists to pull, no real identity of its own. It's a potroast made of leftovers from better movies, a resuscitated corpse of something much more interesting, patched together like a Frankenstein's monster and abandoned to a cruel world just as callously.

It has no desire to do anything new, merely a checklist of Things You've Seen Before That the Focus Groups Say You'd Probably Like to See Again. Any character that can be slipped into an arc that was done in a previous Star Wars film is slipped into one no matter how little sense it makes for them, and any character who can't is either forced to tread water with nothing to do (hi Finn!) or just quietly shoved off to the side early on and forgotten about (hi Rose!).

Any story beats that weren't in the original films are simply grabbed from a box that reads "time tested cliches to keep your script moving with minimal effort." Make the plot a treasure hunt so we can just race from scene to scene with the flimsiest justification possible and try and trick the audience into thinking something is actually happening! What's that, audience interest is flagging? Quick, throw in a cameo of someone from an older movie! What's that, they're bored again? Pretend to kill one of the old characters, but make sure to reveal they actually lived in no more than two scenes down the line, or else we might piss off the fanboys! Hey, let's look at the Cinema Sins videos for the original movies and see if there's some gripes we can "fix" with this one for added fan cred! Can't disappoint our audience!

It's the story-telling equivalent of smothering something in salt to cover up the funky taste of the close-to-the-expiration-date ingredients.

As for what makes a good vs. a bad legacy sequel... ok, so, let's define legacy sequel first. A legacy sequel is a film or TV show that is a sequel to a popular film or TV series that ended a good many years ago, which brings back some of the old cast of characters (generally played by the same, and thus much older, actors that played them in the past) along with adding a new cast of characters played by younger actors. It tries to replicate the tone of the original series despite being made in a different era and probably by different writers and directors, and generally aims to give you that Ratatouille style moment of nostalgia.

I think most Legacy sequels are kind of doomed to be mediocre at best on the outset because the goal of them from the moment of conception is so mercenary - they're not created to Tell A Good Story, they're created to Keep Consumers Invested in a Lucrative Content Franchise. They have the artistic aspirations of a McDonald's Hamburger - "This tastes exactly like what you had as a kid, and doesn't that make you crave more of it?"

I don't think that art made for mercenary reasons is doomed to be bad, mind you - I mean, almost ALL movies and television were made to make money first and foremost. Even the classic High Art movies I love like Seven Samurai and The Third Man were made for mercenary reasons at the end of the line - it didn't stop the people who were working on them from having artistic goals, but it's a fact nonetheless.

But Legacy Sequels just have an uphill battle in the "artistic aspirations" department, because most people with artistic aspirations don't want to recreate the feeling someone else inspired with their art - they want to put their own stamp on it, their own spin, their own voice. And that will often mean something VERY different will be made, something that might piss of the fans - something that doesn't taste like the McDonald's hamburger you had as a kid, even though it came in the same wrapper.

The worst parts of Legacy Sequels are the only parts that Rise of Skywalker is made of - the parts where the story is clearly only trying to show you things you know, only trying to reheat the leftovers so they taste like your memories, only trying to trick the nostalgia center of your brain that you're four years old again eating at McDonald's. "Here's the thing you know! Here's the running gag you liked, repeated five more times by actors with far less enthusiasm! Here's the same basic premise as the first film, but the stakes have been inflated to make it feel like a progression! Cameos! Catch phrases! Eat your hamburger, you consumer pig!"

The rare good legacy sequels don't really TRY to be legacy sequels. They're just... sequels. Another story in the same world as the first, bringing back the characters who actually have interesting arcs left in them, creating new characters with their own shit going on who have good chemistry with the pre-established characters and setting, expanding on themes from the original and exploring parts of the setting that hadn't been explored yet, and all in all telling their own story that's related to the first one's but still manages to be its own distinct thing.

There are not many good legacy sequels, because a good legacy sequel is different than the McDonald's hamburger you ate when you were four, and might make less money than desired because of it.

Every time I read or watch Lord of the Rings I can’t help but think about how Tolkien had survived one of the bloodiest, most cruel, most dirtiest and darkest wars in human history, came back and wrote this:

And clearly they were all written partly because he survived the war, because of what he’d seen and done and learned. But at the same time the unwillingness to lose faith, the courage and strength that this man had to believe in these things after going through hell! It makes the nihilists look so cheap, so uninteresting! People who’ve went through concentration camps and wars believe in humanity anyway, isn’t that proof that hope and love exist? And many, many, many of them did not return or returned broken and cruel and traumatised to the point when no faith in others was possible for them, and nobody can blame them. But there were many who refused to lose faith and hope. They have seen some of the worst that life has to offer and came back believing that we shouldn’t be eager to deal out death in judgement and should love only that which the sword defends.

No matter how many people say that humanity is horrible and undeserving of love, and life is dark and worthless, and love doesn’t exist I remember this and have hope anyway. Because there were people who have actually had all reason to believe in the worst and still believed in the good, so the good must be real. The good is real, even despite the evil, and we must trust in it.

I understand how important it is to be able to criticize the President, and am not at all of the belief he should be beyond critique, but the critiquing of Biden makes me so nervous. (That's not to say I agree with every decision he's made - I absolutely do not). But I feel like people see things he's done wrong and decide they won't vote for him because of it. I'm not sure if enough people have the ability to see that he's done things wrong but also is our only hope of staving off literal fascism.

So many people talk about how sick they are of it constantly being a lesser of two evils situation, constantly having to vote for a candidate they hate because the other side is worse (I heard it in 2020, 2022, etc), and I guess I just- I don't really get it? We're here because they didn't do that in 2016. All of this could've been avoided had the result been different then. I just feel like people don't comprehend how different of a place we'd be in if Hillary won and engage in all this cognitive dissonance to make themselves feel better about being part of the reason she didn't.

Like.... this has been a long-running topic of discussion on my blog, not least because it is so inexplicable and maddening. It also shows how terribly shallow most people's understanding of the American political process is, and how toxic the "I can only vote for a candidate if every single personal belief/position of theirs matches mine" belief is, as well as how much damage it has done to American democracy even (and indeed, especially) by people who technically don't identify as right-wing. American policy is not made by "personal dictate of the ruler," or at least it shouldn't be, because we are not an absolute monarchy. We rely on the operation of a system with input from many people. As such, if Hillary had been elected, we would have 2-3 new liberal justices on SCOTUS and have secured civil and environmental rights for the next generation. In a war there's no time to explore or search for things that can be useful, or even search for clues, less with the fact that youre leading an army. Big on the idea that the ghoul thinks you’re tense and tremble around him because you’re *afraid* of him, not because you’ve got dumb ol’ starry eyes for him. Before the war he would’ve easilyyy picked up on your crush, but now? The idea of someone being attracted to him looking the way he does is so far out of his mind that he doesn’t even consider this a possibility.

l loooove this. Big fan of the idea that the poor thing has largely forgotten everything he knew about women, about dating, about sex, so the moment any of those things start taking up space in his brain again, he's confused and sort of panicking. It takes him long enough to realize that he's interested in you, and that's mortifying enough to him without having to ponder the probability that his seemingly irrational feelings are reciprocated. He doesn't think those odds are particularly high, especially with the way you always seem to tremble and avoid his gaze when he gets close enough to you. Hell, the very first time the two of you spoke it seemed like you were absolutely petrified, shaking and stammering over your words. Your smell even changes when you two get too close like he stresses you out or something, and it makes him feel so guilty, because all he can think about is how to get closer.

Out of respect for you and the blooming friendship between the two of you, he tries his hardest to treat you normally. Well, better than normal, which, to him, still sort of feels like flirting. But he can't bring himself to treat you like he would treat just anyone, and it feels like it exposes him to some degree. Of course, there are still plenty of times where he lashes out at you like he lashes out at everyone else, times where he's in full-form as the cantankerous old bastard he is, but even then he tries his best to not be so awful to you. Him driving you away feels painfully inevitable sometimes, but he's determined to act like someone you might actually want to spend your time with as best as he can.

It's only mildly confusing to him when you start slowly spending that time nearer and nearer to him. He chalks it up to the effort he puts into being as pleasant as possible, your kindness, maybe even your own loneliness. At no point does he consider that you may be trying to capture his attention.

It would take a fairly obvious gesture from you for him to even fully realize that you're being serious in signaling your intentions toward him, your desires. I think that for a long while he'd convince himself that you're fucking with, even mocking him (worst case scenario), or that you're doing it because you like him personally enough to pity him (best case scenario). But if you offer him genuine compliments, say kind things to him, slowly touch him more and more in innocuous ways, he'll begin to put two and two together. He's rusty, not stupid.

Once you get to the point where you're openly flirting with him, you think his reaction is just adorable. He still gives you that nervous butterflies feeling in your stomach and it makes you antsy, afraid to screw up and scare the touch-shy man away, but it's worth it to see the look on his face. It's been a long, long time since anyone's told him what gorgeous eyes he has, cupped his cheek with their soft hand, giggled just a bit too eagerly at one of his stupid quips, and he melts at the attention, no matter how much he tries not to. He feels sort of foolish, as well, seeing the way your hands still tremble, the way you still have trouble looking him in the eye sometimes even as you kiss his cheek. You may be nervous, he accepts, but it isn't because you're afraid or freaked out by him or think he's disgusting. No, your nerves have a different source, no matter how improbable it may seem to him. When you two finally share your first real kiss, he notices that that little shiver is present, and it pushes him to hold you closer as your warmth seeps into him.

this explanation comes to us courtesy of Dark Road! You know, that cutesy little mobile game where literally the whole cast except the two protagonists dies. This is on brand bc the explanation has it's own fridge horror levels to it if i think too hard about it tbh.

So, worlds have hearts. We've known this since KH1, seen what happens to a world that loses its heart, and how they can be affected. It's rarely been expounded on beyond that however, aside vague allusions to the titular Kingdom Hearts being/harboring the Heart of All Worlds.

(which has. other implications now that i think about it but that's stepping into theorising territory. im sorry im trying really hard to stay on track honest)

fast forward to Dark Road, where we have a bunch of kids venturing out into the worlds for the first time, and as such have to have things explained to them (and thus the audience). NOW i will note here that KH looooooves unreliable narrators and characters imparting incorrect information without knowing it, so there is always the possibility that this could later turn out to be wrong, but currently I see no reason this would be the case and thus for now i feel safe in taking their words at face value unless otherwise contradicted.

Why are there no people? Because each world is alive, and after the Keyblade War sundering THE World into MANY Worlds, each needed to recover and restore what was lost; life, time, movement.

All of this is the direct result of the Keyblade War of old. Even after so much time, the bits of worlds are *still* recovering, and I do think there's something to be said about how like... the repition between worlds and their apparent stagnation often *stops* after Sora visits them. I don't think it's because Sora's special(tm), but rather just because of who he is; the Dark Road kids are told never to interfere, and as a result the worlds they visit that Sora also visits later are exactly the same to Sora as they were 80+ years before.

But when Sora visits the same world only a short time after his first visit, things CHANGE. Hercules' story moves forward, Simba is having a crisis about being king, Jack Skellington has learned his lesson about Christmas and is on to new shenanigans. And that's only in kh2! in kh3 we see Twilight Town fill with people, barren Olympus expands into a full town (and there's more there too with BBS and how the Wayfinder Trio may have been Olympus' start towards restoring itself completely, and Sora's later arrival more speeding things along)

my point here is *connections*, which is a consistant and overarching theme of the series. Empty worlds are baby worlds, still healing and restoring from being broken away from the rest, and what helps along that healing? Being connected to others.

Which is to say that the keyblade weilder's doctrine of 'do not interfere' while most certainly well-intentioned (as Dark Road also points out, one persons darkness is anothers light, and morality is not a solid truth across worlds, so interfering is risky at best and dangerous at worst), the flip side to this is that without being connected, without that ''interferance'', the world's restoration stagnates and struggles. It will still get there eventually (the Tangled world seems to be doing alright for example), but chances are it might've been a little easier/faster if someone had done a little interfering.

tldr keyblade war broke the worlds and reset them all to zero. As the worlds heal time stops until it's People finally pop back into existance and their stories can resume. And that's how the invisible crowds in early kh games are canon.

Rhysand isn’t that great of a High Lord as praised in the books. IC’s ‘dreamers’ or ‘peace keepers’ narrative is just laughable.

SJM loves Rhys so much that she can't go a page without telling others how great he is. This is going to be long, and I don’t have much good things to say about him.

Rhys’s father gets killed when he was still young, around the time of the first war. Which means he had been High Lord for over 500 years. And since then he’s had IC with him too.

He’s known as the most powerful High Lord to have ever existed. But there are simply no mention of what he had done so far to prove that other than inheriting genes from his parents. He’s supposed to be unstoppable, and that’s the only thing everyone goes on about. After Amarantha drains most of the powers of High Lords, he’s still left with lot more. During the war with Hybern, he destroys a whole fleet of the enemy’s army with a flick of his finger. Great, but what else has he done with that so called power?

When they were talking about Velaris, I honestly thought Rhys and IC built the city themselves because of their dreams. But Velaris was built by his ancestor who was the OG dreamer. Including the wards, which he powered with his own blood.

During Amarantha’s rule, Rhys hid Velaris and his friends. Considering his powers were diminished, he couldn’t have saved the entire court but would he have since he hates Hewn City already? His first instinct was to erase the minds of his people UtM, mind you they were all from CoN since Rhys didn’t trust Amarantha enough that even his friends were left behind. And if we consider the ward he cast UtM, it’s quite pointless or just precautionary. As no one knew of Velaris and considering the wards were already powerful, he did that to protect his friends, to keep them in Velaris so that they don’t go looking for him. He basically bound the city’s safety to his friends’ lives which I don’t know if it’s a smart move or not. If any one of them had disobeyed his command, seeing how reckless Cassian and Azriel can be, he risked his city’s safety. Ignoring that, he protected his friends and his city, which was his literal job, which is no different from whatever the other HLs did the best they could.

Hewn City was the sacrificial lamb. They were the ones getting dragged into politics, wars, and whatnot. They are the evil subjects to his evil rule. And given that’s the role the people are meant to play every time, I don’t see how they could have lived any differently. After rescuing Mor, they did nothing to prevent it from happening to anyone else. If she was a gem of a person in the worst place possible, she couldn’t have been the only one. Given, Rhy has ultimate power to some extent even though Keir has influence over Hewn City, it’s notable that no one did anything to provide safety to anyone suffering. Velaris is the only safe place in Night Court where people can be themselves, and live a free life. And yet, it’s a secret from the ones in NC too. So what about other women who might endure what Mor did? What about the people who don’t agree with HC’s morals and ideals and want to leave, but they don’t see an option and don’t want to leave their home, i.e., NC? In the 500 years, no one made an attempt to change the traditions in fear of Keir rebelling against them. Not even Mor is said to do anything about it. She hates the place and clumps everyone in the same category as it’s easier to ignore.

It’s constantly pointed out that Rhys doesn’t even visit it often. And Mor is the one running it. Apart from occasionally showing up as their ruler and making a scene, Rhys has no contribution to that part of his court at all. As if he handed the responsibility completely to Mor while he enjoyed in Velaris. Unless he’s plotting something and he has a need, he doesn’t really bother with that city. Yes, for a ruler, delegation is important. But he’s completely ignorant of the rest of the court unless he has to play hero. Velaris is the only place the entire IC truly seem to care about and that’s not a good thing.

Now, when Keir tries to free his people, they outright deny him. He wanted to get out of the mountain. They could have given him access outside of the mountains but not within Velaris. But what is truly questionable is making a decision without consulting Mor about Keir’s arrival to Velaris. It was not only a betrayal of her trust as a friend, but also disrespectful to his third-in-command who basically takes care of his court all those years.

Though it might be seen as an empowering move to give reins to Mor over HC, sometimes she can’t stand in the same room as her father or Eris without having a traumatic flashback. If for personal reasons and space that Rhys doesn’t interfere, he should have as a ruler. But he doesn’t. And someone who’s biased towards a major portion of their court and still processing trauma from it is not a great idea.

Similar issue with Illyria. Women suffering, children abused, no reformation. The recent insertion of training females felt like a plot development and excuse instead of true motives of the IC to improve their court.

The major problem with the IC’s dreamer narrative is that they want to live in a better place but they don’t actively do anything about it. Their solution is to isolate the trouble and turn a blind eye instead of facing it. Illyria in the mountains. HC and the rest of the court cut off. While Rhys and the IC stay happily in Velaris, enjoying all that the city has to offer. Given he’s been in power for 500 years, if he had started reforming early on, they should have made some progress if they had at least tried.

Then there’s the matter of his relationship with other courts. After UtM, there was so much space for Rhys to build a better alliance with them all, except Spring of course. It was actually the best opportunity, even if he didn’t want to give up the bad guy act. They had all seen him fight against Amarantha in the end. Instead, he goes ahead and tricks the one HL who truly gave him a chance for exactly that—friendship and allyship. Rhys is a daemati and he uses his powers on anyone when he doesn’t trust them. He could've done that, he would've already done on that on Tarquin. And yet, he still went ahead with his plans after listening to his talks with Feyre. And when Tarquin blames Feyre for the attack on his court, Rhys should have held her accountable and apologised. Instead, Rhys skirts around with his ‘She’s the High Lady’ comment.

Going after Hybern and the cauldron was a mistake, a little understandable though. But since Hybern didn’t set his eyes only on NC, they should have warned the other HLs even if they didn’t want them to fight. At least after they got the book and had a plan in place. If they had, the others would have prepared which is proven with what happened in Summer.

Spring was the biggest sign of how terrible a HL Rhys is. Feyre was a comparatively a child who went through so much and she was clearly acting out of vengeance. Though it made sense for her at that time, Rhys who is known as the cunning mastermind throughout the series should have known the implications. He didn’t have the connection with her all the time to know what she was doing or what she was plotting. But he should have warned her. Instead, he encouraged her. He had a duty to his court and by extension, to Prythian. And he let Feyre destroy an entire court to punish one man.

And there’s the ‘bad guy’ mask he uses. He didn’t need that at all. If he had been a regular HL who wasn’t a high fae, it would make sense why he needed to pretend to be ruthless. But he is the most powerful HL to exist. He has the two most powerful Illyrian warriors by his side. Mor is said to be powerful and we don’t know how or why. He has Amren too. Basically they are a superhero squad among the courts. Literally he doesn’t need it at all since no one would dare fight him. Even if he acted that way because his ancestors had done so, there are some things he did which no one just pretending to be evil might(ahem ahem what he did to Feyre).

What I’m trying to say is most of the things he did was what he was meant to do as a HL and they are not extraordinary to label him as the best HL like it’s mentioned in all the books. He did his job, sometimes terribly. Other than protecting what was already well protected and going to wars, his actions weren’t mentioned enough to call him the best, most just, most powerful HL ever. 500 years is a long time and he did nothing though he had a ‘dream’.

in all honesty, unless there’s some external pressure pushing him to act he’s much more likely to avoid you and try and suppress his feelings instead

but after a much needed pep talk from charlie, and an off handed comment about you potentially having a date soon which angel dust made in his presence, lucifer does manage to get over himself enough to actually start courting you

and for a while it’s a pretty normal relationship, or as normal of a relationship as you can have with the literal devil: he takes things slow with you, treats you like royalty, spoils you with gifts, does his best to keep track of the things you tell him, takes you out for dates regularly, and is nothing short of a complete and utter gentleman when you’re together — and that’s because at this point his feelings for you are still pretty innocent and the more intense and possessive feelings he has are quickly buried as he doesn’t want to risk scaring you away

he can’t lose you like he lost her

so he bites his tongue and tries, desperately tries, to be the best version of himself he can possibly be — until something finally pushes him over the edge and causes all of those dangerous possessive feelings to rush in and take hold of his mind

maybe it was somebody really not getting the hint that you’re taken, maybe it was alastor really making a good effort to get under his skin by messing with you, maybe it was even a thinly veiled threat by adam about ‘stealing you away’ and ‘getting even’ after you two went public with your relationship — whatever it was caused lucifer’s mind to run wild with both fiery jealousy and white hot fear and pushed him to take matters into his own hands in the worst possible way

he snaps and he snaps badly

he lashes out physically at whoever was threatening your relationship (killing the nobody that was flirting with you, putting alastor back into his place with some injuries he can’t just shake off, harming adam enough to send a message without outright inciting another war, etc.)

he immediately wraps you up in his arms and wings, pulling you tight against his body as he apologises (you think it’s for his behaviour but what he’s apologising for hasn’t even happened yet)

then, finally, he teleports you both back to his palace and locks you both inside before having a bit of a breakdown and locking himself in a separate room to calm down and ground while you process what just happened

(eventually, once he’s out of his own head enough to do so, he’ll reach out to charlie and tell her that he’s keeping you at the palace for your own safety because of some threat or another, promising that she can come see you once everything’s safe enough for her to do so — and, unfortunately for you, she trusts her dad enough to believe him outright and simply wishes you both the best before getting back to work on the hotel)

during your time in captivity, lucifer does everything he possibly can to get back into your good graces and to try and repair your relationship (he’s keenly aware that what he’s doing to you is wrong, and he apologises for it often, but he’s also so terrified of losing you that he can’t bring himself to let you go free) — he spoils you rotten, makes your favourite meals every day, lets you have your own room close to his and makes it as comfortable as possible for you despite his own separation anxiety, tries to talk to you about the things you love (always hoping that this time you’ll finally respond to him), and taking you on little ‘dates’ around the palace grounds to try and replicate the things you did together before he took you

this is a very tumultuous time for you both and it won’t get any better until that small resilient part of your mind dies and you fully accept your new life with lucifer — but don’t be too hard on yourself for breaking, even the most strong-willed of people will give in eventually after spending months and months completely isolated from the world outside of a single person

We are one Iowa caucus into the absolute shitshow that is going to be the US 2024 elections, and I'm already sick of seeing takes downplaying the risk that Trump and his fascist followers represent.

Look. Around 1900, my mother's grandparents immigrated to the Lower East Side of New York City. They brought with them children born in Europe (Poland? Ukraine? which country they were in depends on what year we're talking about) - we're not 100% sure they were THEIR children, even, but there were three, and they were young, and they came. But my great-grandparents had siblings, parents, cousins, uncles, aunts, huge families. And while my understanding is that an attempt was made to convince those folks to move to the US, none of them ultimately opted to.

They all kept in touch as they were able, exchanging letters and pictures, but through World War 1, through the 20s, through the Great Depression, through the worsening situation in Europe in the 1930s, my entire extended family who chose not to immigrate...continued to stay.

I think we all know how this story ends.

I have an entire family photo album of people whose names I will never know, because after every single one of them died in the Holocaust, my great-grandparents and grandparents couldn't bear to even label them. And they were PEOPLE, poor, vibrant, eager to maintain connections with their loved ones abroad. One was a Klezmer musician, and we have photos of him with all the different instruments he played. They're so real on the page, and they all ended in ashes.

And you know how that started? Fascism started with every inch allowed, with every well-intentioned moderate who tried to maintain a middle position even as the whole ground shifted right beneath their feet and even "middle" became extreme, every "no that change isn't coming fast enough, I want instant full improvement NOW" liberal who felt that doing nothing was better than accepting a slower improvement in the (truly awful!) post-World War 1 living situation in Germany.

Most of the members of my extended family also downplayed the risks. They never imagined that the worst could happen to them. They never fathomed how bad things could become.

And now I have their example always before me to know and to scream:

I KNOW HOW BAD THINGS CAN BECOME. I KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO MY FAMILY THEN.

I WILL NOT LET THAT HAPPEN TO MY FAMILY NOW.

People look at me like I'm crazy when I say I've got our passports ready (and have had since before the 2020 election).

Look. I don't know what will happen if Trump is elected, but there's a very real possibility he will, and he's been extremely clear about saying what he'll do. He did a lot of the things he said he'd do last time. I expect he'll continue to do the things he says he'll do. And the things he say he'll do will lead to the deaths of more people than we can imagine - in the US, in Palestine, throughout the world.

Don't tell me there's a middle ground here. Don't tell me I'm over-reacting. Don't tell me the worst won't happen. Don't tell me the risk is mild. Don't tell me we're safe.

We. Are. Not. Safe.

The lives of dozens, hundreds, of members of family were lost in the 1940s amid the horrifying statistic "6,000,000 dead Jews."

I will not let my life (as a Jew), my wife's life (as a disabled woman), my son's life (as a biracial boy), my daughter's life (as a biracial trans girl), be part of the statistics that come from our a second Trump presidency.

If you won't vote like YOUR life depends on it, vote like someone ELSE'S life depends on it, because IT DOES.

And if you can't even do that much, at least shut the fuck up and stop spreading your poison around. You're wrong. The danger is real. Downplaying it now won't make your conscience feel any clearer when it actually happens, and comforting everyone else downplaying it will just make you that much more complicit.

Yandere Axis sharing the same darling

I am just in love with all of the support I am receiving after coming back to posting. You guys are just so sweet! Thank you so much for all of your support and love. Keep being awesome!

If you thought dealing with just one of them was overbearing, try being pursued by all three.

Since this group gets along fairly well, they most likely would share their darling as opposed to fighting over you. Much like what would happen if you had the allies obsessing over you rather than the Axis powers. Not to say they can't be possessive or jealous if you seem to be giving more attention to one of them or ignoring them. Which in it's self, is a deadly concoction.

You most likely were a part of the Axis when they grew an attachment to you or were begging you to join them during the time of war if you weren't already a part of it. However the circumstance may be, the end result will always be the same; You will join them. Whether it be through negotiations or by force is completely up to you.

By the off chance that you took part in the Allies during war times, things would be a bit stickier but still produce the same results.

As everyone knows, they don't win wars so you can't say that they took over your country. They may have occupied your country at one point during the war. Sadly, however, you would be rescued by one of your fellow Allies at some point.

If the Axis were lucky enough, they may have war-torn your country enough so that it would be difficult to get back up on your feet again once the wars were over. With that, you'd be vulnerable and in need of assistance. Not that they're much better.

As they slowly rise back to power, they'll watch over you from a distance; Mostly. Italy is in need of comfort after the war and is in desperate need of some comfort from you. Japan and Germany however, will stand to painfully admire your beauty from a distance. They almost had you. They just needed a little more power then things would have gone differently.

The three of them will silently beat themselves over the thought that they were so close to finally obtaining you. They just needed a little more power to have made all of their dreams come true, but they got careless and cocky somewhere along the way and got swept up by the Allies. Curse them.

Because of these swirling thoughts, the three will work hard through their bubbling anger every day rising back to power and a chance to be with you again. Then when the does finally come, they can put their second plan into place.

A simpler plan.

Sneakier.

The Axis may try to appease your cause in hopes through seemingly fair treaties. Don't you ever take anything at face value when it involves them. There will always be shadowing loopholes and conditions that are set to seriously disable you from your own economy. How did you not see this coming?

With you finally within their grasps, the real conditioning can begin.

Life with the three of them can be quite rough. For starters, you'll hardly get any alone time. If you're not spending time with all three of them then you're at least spending time with one of them. They just want as much time with their darling as much as possible. After all, they did go through hell just to get you this far.

And the rules. I’m talking mostly about Germany on this part, but there will be a strict set of rules that you must follow or you will face punishment. However, Germany can’t help but have a soft spot for you like he does with Italy. The worst punish there would be is isolation and starvation. You may even find him to be quite lenient if you’ve been behaving or rather sweet lately.

Italy would most likely be the one to soak up most of your time by clinging to you like you were apart of him. He just wants to do everything with his beloved. The other two will mostly just tag along with whatever. I do feel that Japan would be the one to be annoyed if anything and will try to sneak time with you when Italy is asleep.

Japan is the most tame out of the three. During his alone time with you, he would be content with just sitting with you and enjoying the night sky while sharing cups of tea. There won’t be need for many words. Just basking in you presence alone is enough to satisfy him.

At times, there may be bitckering between the three but they’re pretty tame. You may be just be pulled back and forth as they argue what their going to do or if someone is spending too much time with their darling *cough, Italy*.

You will for sure break under them. There are just too many of them to get away from them. Stockholm syndrome will sink its talons into one way or another with this trio.

So there's a take that crops up every so often in the Breath of the Wild fandom, and it goes something like this:

Windblight Ganon is such a piece of cake! If Revali were as talented as he claimed to be, he wouldn't have been defeated by it, so clearly he's just an arrogant blowhard.

I disagree. Because while Windblight might have been relatively easy for the player to defeat, circumstances conspired against Revali in every possible way.

Strike 1: The Blight Ganons were tailor-made to defeat the Champions

While it's not stated outright, the Blights seem to be custom-made to put their respective opponents at the worst possible disadvantage. So while Link can avoid the whirlwinds on the ground, they would be very disruptive to Revali's Gale (something he's only been able to do consistently for a short while). Arrows, too, can easily get blown off course by the wind even when using a heavy bow (so can a Rito, who is presumably lighter than a Hylian).

If, on top of that, it was raining (implied by memories #16 and #17), then Revali's favoured bomb arrows would have been useless. Not a great recipe for a fight.

Strike 2: Rito don't see well in the dark

Botw is a game that doesn't tell you a lot upfront, but you can find a wealth of information in every little corner. Case in point, in Gerudo Town there's a Rito named Frita. And she has a very interesting tidbit to share if you talk to her at night.

When the Calamity emerged, an unnatural darkness blanketed the land. A darkness that persists from its appearance all the way through Link and Zelda fleeing and their final stand at Fort Hateno, up until Zelda temporarily sealed the Calamity (memories #15, #16 and #17).

That’s without even mentioning the laser show Windblight Ganon puts on. Ever encountered a car with LED lights on a dark road? Now imagine how Revali felt.

Strike 3: Revali had to fly non-stop for hours to get to Medoh

After sinking some hours into playing botw, you probably get used to warping all across the map via the shrines. Going from Lurelin to Rito Village is a matter of seconds. And if the Sheikah had been able to unlock the Sheikah Slate fully in the past, that would have been a massive boon to the war effort.

Unfortunately, they didn't. Which means that, when Calamity Ganon emerged, all the Champions had to take the long road to their Divine Beasts.

Now what does that mean for Revali? We can hazard a pretty good guess, but we don't have to, because the art book tells us: Revali flew straight from Lanayru East Gate to Rito Village. It's hard to tell exactly how long that would have taken him, but I'm estimating that would be about 8-10 hours flying non-stop.

Which means Revali (like the other Champions) was probably already exhausted by the time he got to Medoh.

Aaaaaand that's three strikes, he's out!

But if that's not enough for you yet, here's one more thing. Admittedly, this is less solidly canon than the previous parts, but it's conjecture that, in my opinion, is backed up by the Champions' Ballad DLC.

Strike 4: Revali lacked his best weapon and may have been injured

The artbook shows us another salient tidbit. Revali could have detoured if he wanted to, but he didn't: he flew in the straightest possible line across Hyrule Field.

Hyrule Field, better known as the center of the chaos at the time.

Can we really expect a Champion, especially a Champion who's so eager to prove himself, to not stop and at least try to help? And while trying to help, what might have happened to him?

When you fight the Blights in the illusory realm, you gain a set amount of equipment, implied to be what the Champions carried with them at the time. And with Revali, something's missing.

Where's the Great Eagle Bow?

Would Rito Champion Revali, greatest archer in known Rito history, really not be carrying his signature bow, when every other Champion carried their favoured weapon?

This, combined with his route straight across Hyrule Field, makes me suspect that he did engage the Guardians, lost his bow, and may even have gotten injured in the process.

So there you have it. Just about everything was against Revali in that fight. And while Link, and by extension the player, may have had an easy time of it, they went into it at full health and with all the advantages of the Sheikah Slate.

Meanwhile, Revali arrived at Vah Medoh after a frantic hours-long flight only to be thrown into a fight he didn't expect against an opponent tailor-made to counter his every move, while he was unable to see properly and lacked his best weapon. And he still managed to put up one hell of a fight.

while i'm here, since i don't plan to talk about this anymore unless i have important resources to share: ACTUAL helpful things you can do are to keep an eye on the news and communicate with your own governments. for americans (just bc i am american) -- the biden administration has pledged to work with israel to allow humanitarian aid into gaza. it's important that the public pressure for that to happen continues & that the documentation of what's happening in palestine continues.

the more you guys turn your issue into an issue with "the jews" or "jewish people," the more time we're going to waste explaining why this is not acceptable or appropriate. which is frustrating because there is shit out there that Matters A Whole Lot Fucking More Right Now.

so keep talking about what matters. and please please PLEASE think for two seconds before you make any posts referencing jewish people.
