I'm wondering what kind of thought process you have for choosing which character get which brackets for their thinking? cause I think the ones you chose fit rly well, especially the {} for wels and [] for helsknight, for some reason they feel very correct
Mostly just vibes, tbh!
Tanguish got (parenthesis) because it's what is grammatically correct [you probably notice I put my personal thoughts in brackets. It was really hard to break that while writing the fic, and if I go awhile between chapters, I will fall back into bad habits and put all thoughts in brackets again, whoops.] His inner thoughts in parenthesis are primarily observations tied to his emotions. He doesn't really think thoughts, he feels thoughts.
Examples:
(The hermits never know what they’re doing, but this isn’t something Tanguish knows. Sometimes he wonders about it, but he hasn’t quite figured it out yet.)
(But he wasn't lying, and he wasn’t a knight, and this shouldn’t matter, it really shouldn’t.)
When I decided I wanted to have other POVs in the fic, I kind of had to case what parenthesis I had left at my disposal. Unless I wanna get silly with it, for the most part, all that's remaining is [], {}, <>, ||, and maybe /\ if I wanna play around a little.
Helsknight has very rigid and straightforward inner thoughts. I wanted to keep most of his internal monologue to tactical information.
Examples:
[Enchanted netherite, because of course it was. He could recognize enough of the symbols to know it was an efficient workman's tool, but sharpness felled people just as well as trees.]
[Control the situation. Put distance between Tanguish and the danger. Keep the Demon busy long enough for escape.]
For that, the brackets make the most sense. He's thinking rigid truths and commands. It also feels close to his personality? I guess? A bit hard to explain, but to me, every action he takes is framed in something. He has rigid codes that he measures himself by, like he's constantly bookend-ed. He breaks those bookends when he's angry, and it's a physical wall that brings him pain when he breaks it. He needs [solid, rigid] visuals for that bookend-ing. Brackets were best.
Welsknight then, I wanted to be visually similar to Helsknight, in which case {} would work well, and their distinctive shapes made me think of something,,, I dunno,,, fancier is a bad word. But the curly brackets are a little needlessly complicated. That complication has a use in coding, but on a standard keyboard, for writing purposes, its unnecessary. I like what it implies about how everything with Wels in the story is gilded, covered in unnatural perfection and holiness. Wels's [mostly unseen] issues in the fic are that he has a problem with ideals. Helsknight is the gritty, grimdark reality of what being a perfect knight is, with all its internal battling for perfection, and all its self-sacrificial, borderline suicidal heroism. Welsknight, however, is the projected ideal of what a knight should be, the glitz, glamour and chivalry. He is light that is blinding, but ultimately harmful, ungrounded. His is the idea of a crusade, not because it is right or just, but because thats what knights are supposed to do, and this is the nearest evil to hand. Something superfluously curly works nicely for his thoughts.
Tango gets the <> for his thoughts, both because I like how pointed and analytical it is [carrots are used for coding and tags in html], how well it meshes with him as a game developer and programmer, and also because it looks a lot like his problem of lancing through things. He is a little spear of a guy. He sees a thing he wants -- or wants to avoid -- and he leaps for it. He ignores Tanguish's warnings, because they're uncomfortable, and there is a different reality he would rather deal with right now, thank you. Sharp little thoughts for Tango.
[Jazzhands!] So, yeah!

a musical machine! this animal's programmable, the notes are on the screen (nice)!
[ID: An art piece of an Apple IIe computer, which has a rectangular shaped screen and a keyboard that slopes downward. It is colored in shades of light beige and brown and rests on a black background. On the computer's screen is a drawing of an early pixelated first-person shooter in bright cyan. An electrical cord that has been outlined in orange and brown extends from the computer. The cord has several breaks in it, all of which have bright cyan lightning bolts flying from them. The computer itself casts a bright purple shadow and has two explosion-shaped bursts of neon pink, red, and white on its upper right and bottom left corners. Several blue floppy disks float behind the computer's upper left side and a neon yellow mouse cursor floats on its right side. Above the computer are the words "First - Person Shooter!" written in neon green (these are lyrics from the given song). All of the letters "o" in the phrase have been made to look like targets. After $140 spent, and 2 failed san checks, I have a functional keyboard! I didn't want to make the firmware from scratch, so I started with [ergomax_tnk](https://github.com/TNKSoftware/ergomax_tnk), and I'm gonna modify it to the workman layout. I've already tanked my wpm by moving to a split keyboard, so may as well make the full jump at once. Went from 90-110 wpm down to 15 xD Hopefully the adjustment is quick #MechanicalKeyboard #Electronics #HobbyProject https://ift.tt/a7WyfuR

Hello Emerson — To Keep Him Here (Anyway)
Tumblr media
youtube
“If we lose dad, how will we make dinner?”
Hello Emerson To Keep Him Here stems from a real-life family crisis, viewing life and family and love through the hurt and worry and tedium of a life-threatening illness. The story, told in snippets of spoken word by songwriter Sam Bodary’s father himself, is fairly harrowing. During the summer of 2017, the father stopped on the highway one day to move a fallen branch, fell, cracked his head and woke up nine days later in the ICU. During the interim, no one knew whether he would survive and if so what amount of damage he would have sustained. To Keep Him Here, then, works as a memoir of a very difficult time, and also as a kind of talisman, as if music (and the love behind it) could reel Bodary’s father back from the verge of death and into the family again.
This is Bodary’s third album, like the others a cracked, wry variety of acoustic Americana, the songs spare and artfully written and bolstered by the simplest arrangements: guitar, drums, keyboards, some strings and Bodary’s warbling earnest voice. Through it all, Hello Emerson has earned a certain amount of acclaim — its last album How to Cook Everything was named local album of the year by Columbus (OH) Alive—but To Keep Him Here seems like a monumental step forward. Warmth, humor and a very midwestern self-effacement keep it from melodrama, despite the large subject matter.
The words are simple and workman-like but full of precise detail and intricate internal rhythms. “Sale Today,” for instance, reminisces about father-son outing to estate sales with rueful fondness. It’s bittersweet, though, because even this well-loved activity has mortality tucked into it. Croons Bodary, “You taught me to see the treasures passed down from retirement crowds to frugal types like you and me…you pay a bit under the asking but you make sure to stay in your lane/cause you could be next and I could be making the change.”  And should you think that the tune is all about the words, it’s not. “Sale Today Canon” distills it down to melody, in fluttering clarinet and swirls of strings, and it is just as moving when wordless.
“Couches” has some of the disc’s most impressive wordplay, the lyrics arranged in percussive patterns that pop in time with the music. The chorus is especially, knottily good, as Bodary chants, “the absence adjacent me misplaces complacency while hope sings like a little bird I caged up for company.” Say it out loud, and you’ll find that the phrases have their own music in them.
One of the most affecting features of this very rich and rewarding album comes in the intervals where Bodary’s dad speaks for himself in simple, honest terms about what has happened to him. Bodary adds little touches of incidental music to these cuts which underline the sense and feeling of them, but he mostly lets them speak for themselves. And what is very beautiful about them is that, despite nearly dying, Bodary’s father has no regrets. “I couldn’t see how I could keep living and not keep doing the things that I would do, right? And one of those things would be to stop and help people move a limb off the road.”
The story ends more or less happily. The elder Mr. Bodary makes a nearly 100% recovery (he still can’t smell, which is noted in the lyrics), and the family pulls together in a way that makes it stronger than ever. But as Bodary notes, it’s a temporary respite, a rehearsal, as he says, “for your hospice years.” And yet the very transitoriness of life is also the best argument for engaging in it wholeheartedly. Music, love, and family come together beautifully in To Keep Him Here and remind us to pay attention now and always.

Has the Covid-19 changed the public perception of gaming?
Tumblr media
Gaming commonly refers to the activity of playing video games where it involves an individual interact with electronic games that uses all types of devices, such as controllers, keyboards, or motion-sensing tools to control the characters or elements within the game. Gaming genres have a wide range of varieties for example, first-person shooter, adventure, MMORPG (massive multiplayer online role-playing game), racing, sports, strategy, and so forth. People engage in gaming can be due to various reasons, which can be for entertainment, social interaction, competition, and relaxation. Playing video games offers a huge diversity in experiences, ranging from immersive, storytelling single player games to fast-paced and competitive multiplayer environments. Although the term “ gaming “ can also include other types of games such as board games, card games, and so on, the word “ gaming” is usually heavily associated with  video games, given its widespread popularity and cultural impact on the public.
Tumblr media
The public however appears to have conflicted opinions and mixed feelings towards gaming as some view it as a time-wasting activity which contributes nothing whereas others believe that gaming is valuable and provide beneficial for an individual as its increases and teaches problem-solving skills, fostering teamwork, and enhancing communications between teammates. This is particularly evident in multiplayer games such as Ubisoft’s Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege. Despite these different perspectives, it is crucial to highlight that an increasing amount of research in the realm of mental health and video games addiction is giving rise to certain concerns. (Robert Workman, 2015) However, things took a different turn on the perception of gaming when Covid-19 pandemic hit which causes massive lockdown nation worldwide which reshaped every aspects of daily life, causing huge changes in how people work, socialize, and entertainment themselves.
According to Santos (2021), many people forced to take an alternative methods of communication and engagements, such as video games due to isolated caused by the pandemic especially in the early stages of the pandemic which noted by speakers at a Thursday event organized by associations in the video game industry. During the event, participants discussed how video games affect health and well-being, exploring the possibility of video games contributing positively to mental health. Amid the pandemic, people turned to video games for solace. For example, Tessa Lee’s experience.
Tumblr media
Due to the coronavirus outbreak, Lee’s company implemented a work-from-home arrangement which also made her reluctantly to go out to avoid getting the risk of being infected among the crowds. However, not long ago, Lee purchased a Nintendo Switch handheld gaming console to play the widely popular game Animal Crossing; New Horizons which suddenly became a much-needed distraction. Ms. Lee expressed that gaming gives her a sense of purpose and a pleasant way to spend time alone. In addition to that, Ms. Mimi Haney, a contract manager at a co-living space company, has similarly increased her gaming activities since the outbreak. She also noted that gaming has offered her various forms of support. Additionally, James Chang, a chief executive for Lazada Singapore stated that consumers might opted for video games as a form of home entertainment or to fill the time during period of self-isolation to curb the spread of Covid-19.
Tumblr media
Furthermore, regarding well-being and mental health, people use gaming to get through a year of isolation and loneliness. Mosche Isaacian depended on online gaming daily and seven discord servers to feel less alone when the pandemic started. As a result of that, Isaacian managed to make new friends from different parts of the world and connecting with them online despite their different time zones. Isaacian expressed that it’s like a sort of live therapy session for him. And according to him, it’s a community of people that he can count on to be there, to just destress with and have a good day. (Heather Kelly, 2021).
In conclusion, the public perception of gaming during the Covid-19 pandemic has experienced a significant change. Although some individuals out there still view gaming as a potential waste of time, many people are acknowledging and recognizing the positive aspects of gaming especially during the Covid-19 pandemic which helps providing entertainment, relieving stress, and social connection during challenging times. As people turned to gaming for comfort and enjoyment, the negative point of view towards the activity has decreased, and there is more attention on its potential benefits for mental well-being. Nevertheless, it is important to maintain a balanced perspective and address any concerns related to gaming addiction and its impact on individual’s mental health. As we navigate a post-pandemic world, it will be crucial to understand and appreciate the diverse perspective of public opinions about gaming. Comprehension is important for promoting discussion that is more detailed and well-informed.

Note
the keyboard is "azerty" layout. lots of alternate layouts exist for accommodating languages and improving typing efficiency. Azerty, Colemark, Dvorak, Workman, there's a lot of options to pick from. kind of a fun rabbit hole if you're that kind of person
oh no I understood the layout, it was the position of the controls
(which I did realise after were the OP's point, that W ends up behind the others etc., I 1st read the post as that being their intentional forward-button placement)

What's your opinions on keyboard layouts? Qwerty always felt unnatural to me and I recently discovered Dvorak, which I enjoy even if I hate the positioning of the V so I keep debating how to remap it, but Colemak looks very good too
i use colemak full time when i'm at my desk! i've trained myself to use colemak with the alice-style form factor and i use qwerty with the standard staggered form factor. i definitely recommend trying colemak. it took me maybe a month to learn pretty solidly by using keybr for maybe 15 or 20 minutes a day when i was bored or procrastinating lol.
dvorak is so different than qwerty that it scared me away, tbh, so colemak was a good compromise to me. i've been telling myself i'm going to learn workman at some point, too... we'll see. i'm sure i'll liveblog that learning process if i do get around to it!
ty for the ask :)

For your fancy keyboard - what is the thinking/idea behind the letter layout?
The letter keys are arranged according to the Colemak-DHm layout. The main idea is to minimize finger movement, especially laterally, making it more ergonomic. I chose this specific layout (over others like Dvorak, Workman, and plain Colemak), because I type in both English and Danish, and going by the most common letter pairs in both languages, it looked to be the most comfortable for me.
It obviously takes a while to get proficient with, but it’s not as hard to get started as I expected actually — I’ve been learning it little by little over the past week, and I already have it fully memorized and type at about 25 words per minute 😊

Jake Pitts (BVB)
Y/N
One of your New Year’s Resolutions was to finally learn guitar to impress your boyfriend Jake Pitts who was very good and played in the band Black Veil Brides. You didn’t have much musical talent, struggling to learn Mary Had A Little Lamb on keyboard back in high school. But this year was going to be the year you learnt a musical instrument come hell or high water.
YouTube tutorials were getting you nowhere, each one making you more and more frustrated and stressed out. It couldn’t be you doing anything wrong because you’d followed all the steps, it had to the guitars fault. You watched Jake play all the time and he made it look easy.
“Stupid guitar,” you moan, throwing the instrument down next to you on the sofa.
“Only a bad workman blames his tools y/n.”
Jake leans in the doorway between the lounge and the kitchen grinning at the scene in front of him. You huff loudly and throw your arms in the air, “I want to be able to play, maybe not as good as you, but because I want to be involved more in conversations you have with the guys while at the studio.”
Jake awes, “you’re too cute sometimes y/n. Why didn’t you ask me for lessons?”
You shrug your shoulders, “I guess I didn’t want to interrupt you before you head out on tour. I know you like to relax.”
“Here I’ll teach you a few things y/n.”
He sits down next to you and picks up the discarded guitar before playing some simple chords. You watch as his fingers move with ease over the strings making beautiful music. Maybe the problem was you and not the guitar.
“Now you try y/n.”
He hands you the guitar and shows you exactly where to put your fingers, before guiding them across the strings, and to your surprise, it actually sounds good for the first time since you picked up the guitar a week ago.
“Oh my god Jake I’m actually making good sounds,” you laugh gleefully while starting to experiment with other string combinations.
Jake chuckles, “if I’m being honest y/n it was kind of funny to watch you before, but with a few more lessons from me you’ll be even better than Ashley and Jinxx.”
You stop playing and put the guitar down more gently this time, glaring playfully at your boyfriend, “oh you cheeky little shit, you’re lucky I love you.”
Jake raises his hands in mock surrender, and you take the opportunity to throw the cushion behind you at his head, smacking him directly in the face. You weren’t going to let this go anytime soon even if he did offer you guitar lessons.
He rubs his head, “okay I kind of deserved that y/n. Just don’t overreact when I tell you I may or may not have filmed some and sent it to the rest of the band.”
Oh, it was so on between you.
