(turns out i need to split this up since its too big thanks tumblr) part 1

Oh yeah if wondering what ive been doing i did the elden ring dlc Tl:dr its really really good and was worth playing for the most part (this is going to me talking about things that happened in my run) (Note this is Really long since the DLC is about as long as an entire dark souls game and its more or less a play by play on what i did)

(I entered at around level 80 with mogh's spear) Obviously the world was a sight to see with all the graveyards and the giant tree.

fighting 2 player like enemys that deal 70% or more of my hp was a poor introduction (i was underleveled and thought i would be fine) Giant throwing jars (they are so funny to me)

meeting most of the new npc's i will be talking with most of the run (except Thiollier and the monk), many diverse group from those who got harmed by marika's actions to those who worked under mogh himself all here for miquella (names being Leda, Freyja, Hornsent, Ansbach and Moore) explore a nearby town and see the most revolting enemys i have ever seen (flies) and get chaingrabbed to death while looting

explore the castle and encounter spider scorpions (breath a sigh of relief that they are not tanky

honestly just soaking in the atmosphere as i make my way hastily though (i was in danger) its such a breathtaking area (theres so many in this dlc)

encounter the divine beast and realize im not built for this as they flip around drastically especially when they kick in phase 2 and the divine part of their name makes more sense

go explore elsewhere for runes and follow Honesent's map to find all the miquella's crosses starting to wonder more on his seemingly religious journey of sacrificing his body for his goal whatever that may be

explore the carian like manor and encounter my second boss roadblock in Rellana, she reminds me of Malenia's fight but without the self heal

explored to the south when she blocked me too while starting to get tired of the great spear moveset praying that Messmer's weapon wasn't one (i went into the dlc to personally kill him for his equipment)

while going one path ended up hearing this guy in pain so decided to check him out and listen to him scream about this Bayle guy and how he curses him (thought he must be some guy who ruined him also forgot about the name Bayle after he said it)

go down this path and see ancient dragon man and kinda laugh to myself cause the names funny to me (even more so since i named my guy spear man) and thought that must be the Bayle he was talking about

killed him and went to explore the dungeon he guarded quite intrigued since i saw him have a dragon transformation and that really intrigued me

go though the dungeon and see its the real ancient dragon man as he 1 shots me with his ash of war (i cheesed him with jumping attacks)

get a new weapon and spec into it when i got tired of using the spear to kill that dragon outside the dungeon

see this giant dragon corpse and talk to the dragon women and accept the quest like i totally didn't go my whole run up to that point never eating a single dragon heart to kill Bayle the dread which i got really fascinated by when i heard he fought Placidusax in his prime

honestly taken aback from scaling the mountain with the atmosphere being extremely intense loving the whole journey knowing that this Bayle must be an absolute nightmare and im 100% not ready (and passed the 3 dragons on the way since i couldn't handle them at that moment)

was proven correct when i entered this beautiful red flower arena and a literal demon showed up and killed me quite quickly

from this point i hopped between the 3 bosses to try and beat one and when i get too board of trying switch to another

finally managed to beat the dancing lion and take their helmet for my own (really silly how big it is i love it though didn't really use it because of the debuff) then realized that i would have to beat Rellana to continue so went back to base game to pick up more items to help (side note i never picked up any buff incantations and i really should have)

saw her moon attack for the first time and thought "oh its a double version of the other moon spells" before she brought down the heaviest balls in the land between juggling me 3 times and only surviving cause i was max hp and had damage negation tear active (i died later anyway)

learned how to successfully bait out more manageable attacks out of her and her openings to finally clutch a win (it was quite the fun fight once i got the dance down) Find the gang again at another miquella cross and learn of the monk who i immediately go do and challenge for the new fist weapons (they become my secondary throughout the rest of the dlc) also note down the monk area for later Go to the shadow castle and get a lag spike as a great rune breaks and note that can't be good and go back to the rest of the npc's - Ansbach is gone - Freyja is also gone - Moore is depressed but i tell him things will get better and he hands me some black syrup - Finally meet Thiollier and learn that he is here due to St Trina who seems to be Miquella's discarded half. He also gives me a concoction that i never figure out how to use also at some point mention he's leaving to go find St trina to the south -Leda now wants to kill either Hornsent or Thiollier due to not trusting them (still seems the most loyal) - Hornsent seems more hellbent on his revenge for his people due to what Messmer and Marika has done to them (which on reflection both have done terrible things just the difference is the hornsent lost)

Find the golden hippo and now in a loop between fighting them and Bayle who i found more fun at the time Go back to kill the dragons i skipped and this one guy who i find is named Igon refers to the tarnished as a drake warrior and gives me his finger to summon for Bayle (which at the time i assume i wouldnt do since i like to beat bosses summonless) Talk to the Dragon women again to reget the buff and to hear about Igon and learn that the broken warrior is more or less what they look for in those who partake in dragon communion and that he reminds her of Bayle in a way (due to his hunger and fiery admission) Look for the summon sign to at least see what Igon is like but couldn't find it at first Start getting close to finally killing Bayle solo and see his summon sign so decide to at least humor his request

So i Found out he's really tanky and managed to kill Bayle, usually would be not thrilled by this cause summons only but the vibes he added to the fight greatly improved it to me and now i can go and eat my first dragon heart Go back to the alter and see the dragon women has disappeared and left behind a mace and a dragon heart that makes me look exactly like her (not the same as the ancient dragon man but don't matter dragon transformation obtained sadly its only a boost to dragon cult incantations rather then a stat boost like in older games) The mace is also quite good from what ive seen but i decide to stick to the sword while i go and obtain what Igon dropped being his armor and bow (and get kinda sad that the harpoons are an arrow and not a weapon, personally i would of added a new bow type for Igon alone where he throws the "arrows") also somehow not realize at the time that Igon is literally dragon hunter Ahab

Kill the hippo and explore the castle. Very windy place and manage to encounter Freyja and Ansbach and not figure out how to do (which bugs me for a bit since you can contently hear Freyja's dialouge though the walls about not knowing how to read) end up finding this bridge which seems to lead to a new area which i want to explore later and is when i first find the jar inward enemy's which is just excellent from software body horror (and like many thought they were what was actually in the jars though more thinking it was the souls of who died since the land of shadows feels like an afterlife in a way)

Fine the boss of the area and THERE'S MESSMER NOWS MY CHANCE (also notice you can summon the hornsent but ignore that since this is my kill and think this shouldn't effect his quest) after some leveling, getting my fragments to level 10 and a lot of fighting finally manage to kill him (my second fav fight in the dlc behind Bayle i wish he had more hp) turns out his weapon is a great spear and get so disappointed that i stop playing for the day but use it anyway (the ash of war and spear throw is fun) Go back to The cross and turns out i ruined Hornsent's chance of revenge making him a broken man (honestly thought he was going to kill himself at some point and felt bad that i robbed someone of their prized kill, again first was in a different game)

Leda now see's him as a non threat but now is thinking Ansbach could be a threat to Miquella, She then notes that without the charm on her that she's rather mistrusting of others and then does nothing about it You go girl I explore the new area past the castle tbh rather quickly since i didnt know where to go and found Romina saint of the bud who lowkey looks like a bayonetta demon, She was a fun fight i really enjoyed the combat with her and find out this is where i can burn the tree so its time for cleanup duty (at this point things are a bit less clear since i did a lot) end up finding a new area after exploring the giant dragons dead body and finding this wonderful looking area of red flowers the enemys in it not so much and ended up finding this dungeon in it which had more of these jar enemys in a prison and end up finding this stonely looking npc at the end which at first i thought was a fight that was really hard locked into needing summons due to its insta kill mechanic until i figured out i could just win by attacking everything faster

got a new mask that transforms me into them too (didnt really use) Find the path down to the equally beautiful blue flower area and sense i must be closing in on St Trina's location especially after i find this hole thats past a giant throwing giant sleep pots Miquella's crosses are also getting more conserning with what he has abandoned seeing his doubt and vacillation and worst of when exploring the underground tomb his love (St Trina) something that he went too far with something he should never have abandoned (as expressed by the ghost nearby) which tbh makes this one of my fav areas in the game due to the lore behind it and the beauty of it

Side note the tomb is alright nice area though the lasers took a bit to get past (but i did accidentally cause a strong enemy to fall to their death for a free spell which was worth it) Sense i am Really close to St Trina when i see all the sleeping enemys and drop down below to be greeted by the boss Putrescent Knight immediately see that his weapon looks like the orphan of kos' weapon and that they are fast like them and quit out for the day since i felt he was going to be a major pain

Turns out the boss isnt that bad (also i start calling them goopy cause of the horse and their head) and apart from the flame attack being a bit of a nuance had fun and killed them and find THE Saint Trina who seems to be a flower and drink the nectar from her dying instantly (well more falling into eternal slumber but same thing)

Find Thiollier nearby trying to hear St Trina's silent voice with her poison in him I exhaust all his dialouge warning me i should not drink the nectar before drinking it anyway and hearing St Trina's Voice telling me i Need to stop Miquella from being turned into a god and that it would be posion to him I relay the words to Thiollier who got extreamly upset that i heard her and thought i was trying to lie to me leading to him trying to kill me (and failing horribly i don't think he landed a single hit on me)

Talk to him again as he lay's dying next to St Trina cursing himself for being weak and good to nobody and asks you what did St Trina tell me which lead to me drinking the Nectue again and hearing that St Trina wishes for Miquella's death to grant them forgivenes Pass the words onto Thiollier who thinks im still trying to torment him in the very end before doubting himself thinking that it could be what she asked for and i leave him as he says he wishes to hear her voice in his ever lasting slumber Then i start Looking online for what ive missed since im truely lost at that point and find out this whole bloody time that village where i dueled the monk had a hole in it this whole time which lead to a new area take notes explore your area's better

Anyway i go grab that special emote i heard about and end up finding this tower with the funny magic jar cannon (never ended up using it) Also find this church with this man Ymir who seems related to glintstone and he hands me this finger whistle looking item and tells me to look out where i stand for his little one (i think name Yuri that or thats just the name of his i assume dead daughter who's grave i found) (also met his servant Jolan)

Find the back area of the shadow castle finally and drain the area since the tarnished cant swim

Explore it looking for how to enter the back area behind the castle which has been taunting me for a while but instead find the underground area which leads to the Scadutree Avatar instead which i assume was one of those glass cannon types until a second and third popped up (at this point i was starting to get sick of my spear but i kind hard stuck myself into using it due to my character name and wish i broke that rule permanently instead of just here and there)

finally kill the flower never learning how to dodge its triple nuke and realize all i get here is Miquella's now shattered great rune which all it can do now is "resist charm" whatever that means

Finally find the back area for real which lead to Commander Gaius who i decided to put off cause he looked like a major pain in the ass and managed to 1 shot me, Explore that side area with the emote i found earlier which lead me to this interesting looking finger area who had probs one of the most annoying enemy's in the game with those extremely strong tracking orbs that knock me off Torrent into a near insta death thanks to the grab that follows from the summoned enemy

turns out this is the finger bells Ymir was talking about so ring it and let him know

find him cradling a small hand probs that Yuri he was talking about and informs me that i actually found the second bell first and tells me that while im doing good i should look at the first map closer (i googled where it was)

Obtain that bell and inform him which leads to the third map and heading back there to go to this area under the chair of the final bell and get taken to the arena of Metyr mother of fingers (also means the Two fingers which makes me think that its a literal god especially when she started to summon what looked like a fucking black hole shooting out its rays as an attack)

didn't manage to kill it so i decided to finally locate the Abyssal woods which took a bit and going though that pitch black dungeon

found out Torrent does not like this place forcing me to go though it on woods tbh felt more tedious then horror like once i figured out what the warning was

Finally made it to the manor and someone warned me to not go further in which i did anyway since i wanted to know where this path of madness went (since its related to frenzied flame)

encounter Midra and make him into a joke after he tells me how foolish i was to come in

then the cutscene plays and i finally see where the last thing in the trailer was as he rips his head off and removes that large branch in him becoming the Lord of Frenzied flame

Absolutely wonderful fight really loved it would rank it as my third fav behind Messmer and Bayle (and once again wished he had more hp since he wasn't too difficult)

after this went back and killed Metyr turns out it isn't classed as a god after i finally manage to kill it seeing even more short comings of the spear (i used that dragon great katana for the kill should of stuck with it for the rest of the game)

then realize that i have impeded Ymir's plan by slaying Metyr which lead to Jolan attacking me and then the imperfected New mother of fingers Ymir attacks me as well both falling quickly because while im not a fan of great spear movement Messmer's spear ash of war is extremely good at npc killing

after this i went back and mimic teared Commander Gaius cause i don't respect him and explored the area behind him only really finding the bowl

Since you like to say you’re always right, tell us what is next. You say you don’t make predictions, but you actually do, even if you don’t call them that.

Ok so I’m absolutely not always right. There have been some really big things I’ve been wrong about and a lot of small things too. And what I learned from that is to keep an open mind, and when I’m wrong about something, to figure out why I got it wrong and shift my world view in some ways to try to understand and guess better the next time. But it’s not even really about being able to guess. It’s about understanding when things happen. It is fun to be right on a guess though, when that happens.

The biggest thing I’ve learned, and luckily I learned it pretty early on in my time in this space, is that trying to figure out the timing something big will happen is absolutely a fools errand. And another thing to avoid is trying to come up with the exact, specific way Taylor (or others in her cinematic universe) will do something to get a point across. Like I can predict she will try to get a point across (set up a timeline, create a narrative, shore up a brand point) but I cannot predict exactly how or when she’ll do it. I also can predict she’ll set something up but then she never does. That’s because I think of lots of options. Some happen, some don’t. So this is the kind of thing I’m often wrong about. But I see them and always try to present them as options, not predictions. And if one of the options I think of happens, I have already spent time thinking about it, so it already makes sense to me.

I don’t know what’s next. She could drop TS11 at midnight. She could break up with Travis tomorrow, or announce her engagement next week. But I do not think any of those things is likely.

So here’s the closest thing you’ll ever get to me making a specific, timed prediction, because to me it seems quite clear:

What I do think is likely is that her jet will go to KC, ✅she’ll go to the game on Sunday✅, and her jet will then leave KC sometime between next Tuesday✅ and next Thursday. Why? Because it’s a home game, and she likes to go to home games and get the exposure and publicity that comes with that. She is working really hard at becoming an icon in KC, seem like her relationship is very serious for those who want to believe it’s serious, and she wants to shore up that relationship by spending time with him, his family, and his friends (also KC icons - the Mahomes mostly.)✅ All of this is so important to the story she’s creating. However, she won’t stay long ✅because that’s been her pattern. She also seems to be establishing that she also has her own busy, fabulous life✅ (she’s bejeweled and he lets her be✅) and when he’s busy with his football week (generally Tuesday-Sunday) he doesn’t have much time for her and she has her own life.✅This gives her the opposite option of the relationship being very serious. In other words it gives her an easy out for it to end. And Wednesday is her birthday. So she’ll either stay till Tuesday ✅and we’ll see or hear about birthday celebrations Sunday night/Monday, ✅then she’ll head out for further birthday celebrations with her other friends and family✅, or her jet will stay through her birthday, solidifying the seriousness of the relationship. But she will leave KC.✅ And then she’ll probably go to the game on Dec 17 in Boston✅. Why? Because it is a short hop from NYC, she has a huge fanbase there✅ and can expand it and shore it up, the patriots are bad so a win is likely✅, but they are a very popular team, so viewership (publicity) will be high✅. After that? Well she’s likely to spend more time in NYC✅/Nashville. Then she will probably go to the Christmas Day game in KC✅. This is a huge opportunity to “take the relationship to the next level” by spending the holidays together ✅, something the public absolutely loves to see and will further fuel the “engaged by the end of the year, after the Super Bowl at the latest” fire. Hopefully we’ll get something reputation-related for new years❌, so the extra publicity will help with that. Additionally all of this corresponds with the Eras film being released to streaming, another huge money making opportunity for her, and her attendance is an ad for the film.

After the new year, there will be some huge games with high viewership. They will be playing for playoff seeding. Then they almost assuredly will be in the playoffs✅. She will go to those games✅, which have even higher viewership, and will give her more free marketing for reputation and eras movie and anything else we don’t know about. After that, it will depend on how deep they go into the playoffs. They are no longer favored to be in the Super Bowl, but it is still a strong possibility✅. We all now know she can fly across the world after a concert to attend an event (she flew to the US during her time in SA, planned to a second time but couldn’t because of the events in Rio, and flew to London for 24 hrs for bey). The precedent has been set for her to fly from Tokyo to Las Vegas for the Super Bowl. ✅There is no bigger stage than the Super Bowl (outside of the World Cup final, if you’re thinking internationally.) The free marketing potential there is something that would be very hard for her to pass up. And if Travis isn’t playing, Jason’s team might be, and they can go together to support him. Imagine the potential of travlor in a suite together with mama and papa kelce cheering on a retiring Jason❌✅ . And even if neither of them are in the game, they could still all go together and stand in a suite as a big happy family in front of an audience of 115 million Americans. Why wouldn’t she do this?✅

Will all that happen for sure? Of course not. But you can see the logic, right? Will there be other things that happen that I haven’t thought of? Most likely.✅ I don’t actually have a crystal ball. What kinds of things could derail this? Well there’s always the possibility of the black swan, but a more likely scenario is they lose again against a team they should beat✅ and/or Travis has another bad game✅. There is a real danger of people turning on her as a distraction ✅and I think they have their fingers on the pulse of this very closely. As long as KC keeps winning, and there’s a good chance they will win the rest of their games, all will be smooth❌✅.

Also I am not even thinking beyond February. I have one interesting thought about it, but it’s just too speculative to even mention here. But as we move through the next two months, I’ll get clues to be able to guess at what will happen after she goes back on tour after the Super Bowl✅. And if I’m wrong about all of this, which I may very well be because she is notoriously unpredictable sometimes, I will simply take it as a learning opportunity to understand her better.✅

#I’m editing the tags as time goes on to note what I got right and how and adding checks and can writhing the post #People mag confirmed they celebrated her bday Monday in KC and he’s busy and she’s busy and she will have a party w/o him in nyc #and were sure to mentioned he is focused on football #and he’s gotten some criticism for dropping passes and that flop #he had a bad game vs patriots and hasn’t had a good game in weeks #she’s still doing fine other than the Mahomes continuing ick #Travis essentially confirmed she went to Gillette. decide of her strong fanbase. bad team means cheap tix for swifties to take over #don’t know for sure but looks like she wants everyone to think she’s in KC for the week #a big football analyst tweeted she’s a distraction after the Christmas loss #they didn’t win the rest of their games and they struggled at the end of the season there and Travis struggled but #he miraculously hit his act together in time to help lead his team to the Super Bowl cementing his place as the elite TE and saved the day #and happiness is everywhere because the goal (SB and adorable power couple of the year) was met #next Grammys and Super Bowl for her and him going to shows in Australia I’m guessing #got the kelce family plus Taylor importance right but didn’t mention the possibility of Jason not in SB but in suite with tay.#obvious but sonce I didn mt mention it I gave myself a partial green check #one thing I didn’t know was about TTPD instead of a new re-recording #we already got our People article that he is looking forward to joining her on tour in Europe

Me seeing someone with a cool name: oooooo, what if

Another part of my brain: no. we spent enough time getting to Jonah. we’re not doing it again

#occasionally I get the urge to just hoard names #I think it would be neat #but also like how would I even tell people that #like here’s a list of random ass names that I think sound kind of cool don’t even know if I like them for myself yet #also sometimes it’s a name that’s typically a girls name and if I went hey I kind of like this name I feel like I would end up getting #misgendered and I don’t want to deal with that #it’s so funny because I’ve always wanted to change my name and I wonder how much of that was trans stuff and how much was I just like other #names #like honestly there are points where boneworms feels like more of my name than Jonah #whatever that says about me #I think I got off the point but whatever it’s almost two am #j rambles #coming back to this to rant more in the tags #so like the current names I’m rotating in my head are Silas (not my favorite of the three and I already have a character named this but #still it’s cool) also Sylvester specifically to be called the nickname syl #and nova which I know is a more feminine name but also presenting masculinly with a feminine name would be very gender #love having a weird gender but I feel like other people would be weird about it in a bad way #it’s not like a don’t like Jonah but I think I’ve gotten too used to it if that makes sense #like yeah it’s my name but it’s not as fun anymore #I’m back again #silver is also a cool name #I should really go to bed instead of just adding to the notes of this post #wait wait wait wait #sylver #okay I’m done now #probably

So, I've heard some voices here and there lamenting how little Gabe content - especially new Gabe content - there was and you know what? I completely agree, so I thought why not, I can try to add my little droplet into this tiny sea of Gabe appreciation we have here on tumblr.

Summary: Elena visits Gabe in his house for the first time and learns something new about his past.

Word count: 1937

AN: just some friendly fluff really, headcanon heavy, from Elena's POV but Gabe centric

"Oh, watch out, the first step is-" Gabe turned around just in time to catch Elena when she started to fall backwards. "-loose."

"Thanks for the warning." Elena shot him a glare when she regained her balance. In response Gabe only sent her an unapologetic grin and pulled her up on the next step.

"Everyone's so used to it by now that we keep forgetting to fix it with my dad," he explained as they finally reached the first floor.

The stairs led to a narrow corridor, with the same room placement as the bakery beneath it. Two doors on the right, one on the left and a wide opening to the living room at the end. In a few brisk steps Gabe opened the door on the left and invited Elena in with a courteous gesture.

"Welcome to my humble abode, your highness."

Her highness graced him with a nod and slipped by him, into the small room. Elena gave it a quick one over. It was indeed small - in fact, there probably wasn't much more space than what each guard got at the barracks - and the decor wasn't much fancier either. Cream colored walls, a thin bed by the window, a wardrobe opposite of it, one wall taken up by a bookshelf and a small cabinet by another made up basically all the furnishing of the room.

"Humble is a good word." She nodded solemnly, earning herself an eye roll from her friend. They both chuckled.

"Hey, it's your room that's out of the norm, you know?"

"I have no idea what you're talking about," Elena retorted, thinking about how three or even four such rooms would fit into hers. She walked over to the cabinet and picked up some trinket. "But it's nice to finally see where you grew up."

Gabe couldn't stop a fond smile sneaking onto his lips when he noticed the badge she was examining.

"Yeah and I didn't really get to change much here in the past five years. For example this thing I got back when-"

"Gabriel!" He was interrupted by his mother's voice from the bakery.

"I'll tell you in a moment," he sighed. "Make yourself at home!" He added from the doors and quickly ran downstairs to his parents.

Elena took another look around the room. It wasn't entirely empty, she had to admit that, and the poster of Antonio Agama on the inner side of the door confirmed that Gabe didn't change the decor much since he moved out.

She moved to the bookshelf and moved her hand across the titles - though there weren't that many of them to count. The lower shelves were taken up by some boxes and bags and what could've been a neatly packaged tent. Then finally a whole shelf dedicated to the whole collection of Antonio Agama's books. Elena chuckled to herself when she read some of the more dramatic titles and noticed even one that wasn't in Avaloran. On the next shelf, between other various travel books and biographies, was only one book by señor Agama, titled simply 'The Gecko's Tale'. Driven by a hunch she took it out and couldn't help but laugh when she read the blurb on the back. Although that explained how the whole kingdom found out that she's a bit adventurous too.

Finally her gaze got to the plant on top of the mantle. Hidden so deep in the room, it extended its ivy like stalks towards the sun, climbing a string helpfully hung between the bookshelf and the window.

Down on the windowsill two other plants looked out on the little cobbled square behind the house. Elena leaned in to smell the orchid and noticed something half hidden behind the pot. Slowly, so as not to accidentally damage the plant, she reached for trinket and retrieved it into the light. It turned out to be a wooden doll, painted to resemble a familiar navy and maroon uniform...

"Is this you?" She turned to Gabe as soon as he entered the room and showed him the figurine with a wide smile.

Gabe stopped for a moment. Furrowed his brows as he tried to see what Elena was even holding, and then furrowed his brows even more when he recognised it.

"Of course not," he grumbled, closing the small distance between them. "It's just an old thing anyway."

"It does look a bit like you though." She jumped away from him at the last moment.

Gabe gasped. Elen giggled and moved her hand away when he tried to reach her.

"Why would I even have a figurine of myself?"

For a moment they circled each other, like two lions judging if it's worthy to fight the opponent for a steak, except the steak was now wooden and 15 centimetres high. They both hunched subconsciously and made their steps in the fencing manner.

"I don't know, why does Esteban have a whole wall of his own portraits?" A sly grin slid on her face. "But I see you've decided to match his collection."

"Oh now you've done it." Gabe shook his head to hide his smile and in the split of a second was right by her. Feigning to go right for the prize, he swiped her legs out from under her.

Elena waved her hands in the air giving Gabe just the opportunity he was waiting for. He swiftly yanked the figurine from her hands, giving her the last push to fall backwards completely. He turned his head with a victorious grin, just in time to see her legs rising at the height of his knees. And suddenly the ground was much closer than before.

He folded his arms to his chest, protecting the figurine with his body and rolled on the floor. Though he didn't have to roll far, of which he was promptly reminded by his head crushing into the cupboard.

He groaned loudly and let his body fall limply to the floor.

His pained complaint was answered by Elena's laughter from the bed.

"I'm getting too old for this," he mumbled and Elena's laughter only got louder.

Finally he sat up and lifted the figurine to his face. He carefully examined it for any cracks or splinters, checked if the joints in the limbs didn't fall out and most importantly if the head was still on firm. Finally when he made sure the trinket didn't get damaged, he let out a relieved sigh.

"You're lucky it's still whole," he grumbled, rising to his feet.

"Hey, I was being careful." Elena now sat up too and sent him a playful smirk. "All the way until you decided to trip me like that."

Gabe rolled his eyes again and huffed in pretended annoyance.

"So if it's not a limited edition General Nuñez action figure," Elena continued. "What is it?"

Gabe sat down next to her and thought of an answer for a moment. He changed the position of the little soldier's arms and reached for a pin to put into his hand as a sword.

"It's really just an old toy," he said finally. "But you know, it has sentimental value."

He finally passed Elena the figurine, so she could take a look at it herself. It wasn't as old as she thought at first. The paint was faded, but still held onto the uneven surface of the wood and as she moved her fingers across it, she realized that it must've been all whittled by hand, by someone who put great care in it, but wasn't a professional.

Still the amount of details was impressive, especially in the construction of the thing. She moved the tiny soldier into the proper fencing position and to her delight found out that it fits flawlessly, the wire on the joints creaked quietly, as if it had been waiting for an opportunity to shine for ages.

She glanced between the figurine and Gabe on her left for comparison. The uniform, despite the familiar colours, was a tad different, it resembles more what she remembered from her childhood, than the uniform Gabe was wearing at the moment.

"I got it from my first fencing teacher," he continued.

"The same one who threw coconuts at you driving training?" Elena raised a brow, earning herself a chuckle.

"Yeah, the same one." A sad smile reached the corners of his eyes as old memories resurfaced in his memory. "He was a tough man and always talked about how big an annoyance I am, but -" he gestured to the figurine and shrugged.

"Well, that explains why it looks like you," Elena bumped him with her shoulder. "I'm sure he could've already seen that you'll be a great guard."

"Oh, I don't think he even wanted me to be a guard," Gabe laughed again. "But you know, the situation was a bit different." He pondered something for a moment before continuing. "And to be fair, I didn't even realize that it was supposed to be a guard at the time, I was pretty sure he just came up with the design by himself. I only really connected the dots a few years ago, when I found this old thing again."

Elena nodded silently and put a comforting hand on his arm. She could see that this topic wasn't easy for him.

"Though maybe what you said was the point." He straightened suddenly and his gaze went back to the figurine. "Maybe he wasn't completely against me joining the guard, just... joining the right one."

His smile became wider and it was like his whole face lit up. Elena raised the little soldier's arms to make it cheer. They both laughed at how expressive this piece of wood was.

"So where is your coach now?" Elena asked, caressing the wooden toy one more time.

He only sighed at first and for a moment his gaze became clouded again, before he shook his head to cast the memories away.

"I wish I knew," he sent her a sad smile. "One day he just... disappeared. A few trinkets and one letter is all the proof I have that he wasn't just my hallucination."

Elena's lips twitched in a matching sad smile, but before she could say anything, they both heard a voice from downstairs, calling the unmistakable word 'dinner!'

Gabe clapped his hands on his knees and sprung up to his feet.

"Ah, just in time", he extended his hand to Elena. "I think eating is a much more fun topic than discussing the weird things I did in my childhood."

Elena examined his face for a moment more, but gave up on asking all the questions that pushed to the tip of her tongue. She sent him a smile instead and accepted his hand.

"Oh, you mean you did more weird things?" She made the little figurine gasp.

"I feel like I shouldn't have started this topic," Gabe laughed.

"Oh no, you won't escape now." She poked him in the chest and put the little soldier in his hand. "I gotta know all the crazy stories."

"Okay, okay, I'll tell you something," Gabe raised his hands in defeat. "But you can't mention it to my parents, please, they'll never stop until they tell you my whole life story."

Elena made a theatrical gesture of tapping her lips in thought as she backed out of the room.

"I'll consider it," she sent him a wide grin and in a second turned and ran towards the stairs.

"Hey- wait!" Gabe called out, running right after her to save what was left of his reputation.
