Some (hopefully) helpful tips about ao3 for people who aren’t familiar with it and would like to get an account

- It is advisable to get an account prior to the event, since it is by the invite and it can take few weeks based on queue. (Reminder that late entries are accepted)

- You can upload art and edits as well on ao3 since its function is to be an achieve.

- Main relationship tag is Levi Ackerman/Reader, secondary ones are Levi Ackerman/Original Female Character(s) and Levi Ackerman/You. You can tag all of them or just one, but if you want to tag one, please use the first one and make sure to put it in the relationship tag section. “&” is used for platonic interactions generally so while you can tag “Levi & Reader” additionally you still have to put the first one for it to be visible.

- Do not forget to tag Levimonth24 in additional tag section and add it to the collection by the same name. Here is how to add to collection.

- Ao3 has a new setting that automatically turns off guest comments due to recent spam bots if you don’t enable them manually. If you would like to get guest users to comment, you need to choose so for each work.

- There is no algorithm on ao3, so the wattpad rules such as very quick updates or placeholders are not applicable. In fact placeholders are against TOS.

- Smut is considered E rated in general. M is for more vague descriptions.

- Please don’t forget to give kudos and leave nice comments to the works you like!

this was quite a while ago so my memory is hazy but it still sort of bothers me, so

AITA for making a quick comment about a ship dynamic(???) i didn't like in the ship tag?

before you jump on my ass, this isn't pro/anti stuff. literally just a matter of preference.

not going to mention the specific characters or media in question for pure anonymity's sake. i'm just going to assign arbitrary names to the characters in question for readability. let's say Albert and Bartholomew, or something. and the ship name can be Fucking BartBert I Guess.

"Bartholomew" had a traumatic experience in his childhood that had a very large impact on his mental state, let's say. as a fan of. um. "bartbert". i had noticed a trend in fan works of this ship depicting an AU version of Bartholomew that had never had this traumatic event happen to him. not that there's anything wrong with that, really. i just found it sort of strange and i was more interested in the canon character, additionally i found it sort of comforting to think that Bartholomew was worthy of love scars and all, so to speak. so i made a short post in the tag expressing pretty much that. along the lines of "why is there so much fanart like this? can't he be loved the way he is?" or something like that, and tagged it as bartbert because i wanted to see other people's thoughts on it. in retrospect it could've been read as dismissive or inflammatory i suppose but i really didn't mean it like that. i was just a little bit annoyed and confused by it.

fast forward a little while and this person comes into my notes saying something along the lines of "for some reason i can't reblog this on my main, but it's because people have been nice enough to make fanart of the AU that i made." i didn't think i knew this person at all, so i essentially just responded trying to assure them that i don't know them and wasn't trying to attack their art or them personally or anything.

i'm not sure exactly what happened after that because it's been like 2 years but in essence, i had actually blocked their main a few months before, because they had been posting about that AU and i didn't like it, so i just blocked and moved on like i usually do with stuff like that because i didn't want to see it in the tags. i probably didn't even realize at the time that they were the creator of the AU. but this person pointed out that i had their main blocked as like, evidence that that post i had made was a personal attack against them, or something like that?? of course i didn't mean it in that way, i had just blocked their main months ago and forgotten about it, and i wasn't even really trying to be rude but they blocked me before i could try to explain myself.

i remember this whole thing pretty vividly because i was at the zoo with my family that day and feeling like i was being accused of something i didn't do, or being called mean or being picked on by someone with a much larger following than me presumably, just for making a single post the night before was really stressing me out on what was supposed to be a fun day. in addition i ended up leaving the fanbase for the work in question entirely pretty soon after because i didn't want people to think i was weird or mean. it's sort of colored my recollection of the work in general, which sucks because i do still really like it.

in retrospect i'm honestly not sure if what i did was wrong or not. i suppose i shouldn't have put negativity in the tag but also i feel like you should be allowed to express negative opinions the same as positive ones, right? as long as you aren't being a jackass about it. although at the same time i can sort of see their perspective because i think if i saw a post like that about something i had made i might've jumped straight to being defensive about it, too...

but anyways it's one of those memories that creeps up on me while i'm trying to go to sleep, so,

But, speaking of authors and artists, please remember to be polite. I don't expect a serenade every time you request, but please, remember, I'm a human too! And I'm going to be honest, I often miss jokes. So even jokingly, please don't be demanding like this, especially not without tone tags!

Even if you are a mutual of mine, I seriously dislike this sort of tone. I understand it may be a joke, but please, please understand that it feels grating.

And especially please, understand that I take my time. I will admit, I have a problem of being a pushover when pressured, and I deeply apologize for it. I fully intend on rectifying my behavior and putting my foot down with issues like- these.

As you can see, I gave in to the person on question (who also sent the ask above lmaoo) very easily. And I shouldn't have. Because honestly? I feel like this is a very disrespectful way to speak to someone you're requesting.

I absolutely love requests, and I don't mind if someone occasionally asks if I've made any progress on a fic (like one of my really nice mutuals who is much more kind about asking than this person), but please, remember the human. Remember that I'm a person with feelings, and that feeling pressured to work like this sucks the joy out of writing for me.

Once again, I really don't want to be "that person" who gets offended by even the slightest misstep, and the only reason I'm name-dropping this person is because they've done other things that are considerably worse in my opinion (knowingly flirting with minors as a "joke" and talking about triggering topics like sa to the point of making people so uncomfortable they avoided the space altogether).

However, I have very few boundaries in my opinion - I write fic for literally anything that isn't NSFW or yandere. Yet somehow, these boundaries are still disrespected. I've been accused of being ableist against people with restrictive eating disorders despite having one myself; I've been told I'm "trying to cause arguments" on pining!headcannons, I've been sent NSFW requests, and more.

Please respect them. From now on, I will be direct if I don't want to write something. I don't want to be rude, I've just realized that being excessively kind is clearly getting me nowhere. And as much as I love requests and appreciate them, really, I do, if you pressure me to finish it like this, I'm going to delete it. Why? Because I genuinely cannot bring myself to enjoy writing while I'm being pressured.

Hi! I have been interested in learning how to make sewn in hardcover books, but whenever I look for guides, they are people just making themselves a sketchbook with not a full on cloth bound hardcover, etc.

Additionally - when trying to find what are good beginner supplies am struggling to find what is recommended. Book boards on Amazon that had reviews saying it was too flimsy... bookbinding kits online that literally have the same waxed thread as leatherworking kits etc,, no idea where to find unwanted linen thread....

There was a gentlemen who teaches bookbinding at sca events id reached out to, but hadn't heard anything back because I'm sure his schedule has been busy.

I know this is a huge ask, but do you have any books or websites or guides you suggest for learning any of these things and for learning what to search for? If these things are listed in a tag or faq, I am sorry I didn't see them when I did a cursory search of your blog after I saw your bookbinding critique post that petermorwood reblogged

* in the "publishing industry" sense, not in the sense of binding a really thicc boi (which is both allowed and encouraged)

my main recommendation is to check out @renegadepublishing's resource links page (and join the discord if that's your vibe!) and in particular @armoredsuperheavy's tutorial for doing a basic case-bound hardcover, which is how i bound my first hardcover :3 or if video tutorials are more your jam, people on the discord really like DAS bookbinding's youtube channel. also! if you ever happen find yourself in san francisco, definitely take a couple hours to check out the bookbinding museum -- they have a bunch of examples of different binding techniques you can hold in your sweaty little hands and stare at until their secrets are revealed to you >:)

i won't certify that these are good supplies recommendations For Beginners but here's what i use:

lineco (acid-free) book glue you can find on amazon, but i also really like glue stick and double-sided tape formats which are less messy. i love these silicone brushes for applying glue because you literally don't have to wash them you just let the glue dry and then peel it off later. very satisfying

lineco's little packages of linen tape are so fucking overpriced :/ i got a couple rolls from burnleigh & trowbridge a while back and it's literally exactly the same stuff but way cheaper per unit length (or if you don't want a whole roll you can buy it by the yard)

you can also get unwaxed linen thread and beeswax off burnleigh & trowbridge but i ran out and switched back to cheapo prewaxed linen thread (it works equally well!). (i assume "unwanted linen thread" was a typo for "unwaxed linen thread" but if you are using linen thread you absolutely want to wax it -- otherwise it is Badly Behaved)

i bought linen cord (not needed for just A Basic Hardcover but fun if you want to experiment with medieval cord bindings) from talas (which is a specialized bookbinding website that also sells bookcloth and stuff)

this is a nice little beginner kit that comes with an awl, a bone folder, and a punching cradle that will fit half-letter books (it's annoying how you have to constantly screw and unscrew the little clamping screws but it IS functional). for bigger stuff i also have this punching cradle (i had to glue some sacrificial board strips to the bottom to actually get enough room for the awl to punch a decent sized hole, which is annoying). please send a signal flare if you find a Secret Good Punching Cradle...

i actually don't really like any of the book boards i've used so far either, which is maybe because i've been buying cheap crap off amazon (most recently this, which was far too thin; i always wind up gluing two pieces in a stack and then it always curls up even though i put it in the clamp and i Don't Like That). i plan to experiment with museum board soon and i will attempt to keep everyone updated on how that goes

also not a Beginner Supply but this is the beast i refer to as Madame la Guillotine and i love her so so much

wrt book clamping, i am VERY NEARLY DONE making a fancy-ish wood clamp with my dad, but all of my bookbinding has been done with a combination of scrap plywood, random thin hardcover books i don't like, woodworking clamps, and just leaving things under a heavy textbook while the glue dries (my go-to is CLRS)

observations on germany from a british person

very cool i would love to live there one day

political system less fucked than the UK (im really bitter on UK politics and brexit atm). not perfect by any means and has the same issues as we do here with the alt-right, but no shitty first-past-the-post system and people still seem to be largely in favour of the EU

public transport my beloved. people clown on the unreliability of german trains but i don't think UK trains are much better AND ours are way more expensive (love the deutschland ticket 👌). i love how ubiquitous the tram/metro is in german cities

better cycling infrastructure. in a lot of places you're just allowed to ride on the path, which (duh) is safer than riding on the road

love the Pfand system. very cool

love the recycling system. very cool

more tolerant of graffiti?? in that it doesn't seem to get cleaned off as quickly as in the UK. which actually leads to people creating cool art bc they know it won't get removed rather than writing their tag 5 times on the side of a building

somewhat less polite and less respectful of personal space. but i also met so many kind and helpful people while i was there. shout out to the woman on the U-Bahn with her daughter who helped me figure out how to get home the one time i had issues with the train. also my Airbnb hosts who invited me to dinner at their apartment (white asparagus and potatoes!)

just generally there seems to be way more arts and culture around. even walking under a railway bridge there were cool poster designs for shows and such

housing market slightly less fucked?? some rent control laws, less obsession with owning a house, more compact housing. possibly related: high streets don't seem to be dying like they are here

great vegetarian and vegan food. really didn't expect this but there is so much you can buy in the supermarkets. i love the vegetarian ham and i'm sad we don't have it here

largely into football and beer. so we are alike in that regard. but i am not into football or beer and coincidentally neither were any of the people i met

has four of the world's suspended monorails. cool!

beautiful language idc what anyone else says. you really do put your whole pussy into it when you speak german. i like how compound words are constructed like legos and the esoteric sentence structures are interesting (really does bury the lede when multiple important verbs are sent to the end of a sentence). don't like adjective endings though

cash everywhere but i did go into one cafe in cologne which was card only

german TV is not great. i would imagine there is less motivation to create original german TV bc they just import the best international TV and dub it. tatort was good though i liked that

additionally: yes EVERYTHING is dubbed. best one i came across was futurama. good for me to practice my listening comprehension

internet is not great. slower on average than UK. but i never found myself without mobile signal

related: just generally slower to accept new technologies. i don't think this is awful. i know germany is big on privacy laws, but having to make in-person appointments for government stuff and not having a centralised government website like we do here sounds a pain

healthcare system less fucked than the UK. although the whole thing with public/private insurance seems confusing

unemployment benefits / disability benefits sound somewhat better than the UK??

autobahn is not actually faster than the UK on average bc for every 150kph stretch there will be another stretch with roadworks and a 60kph limit

less dogs :( i did see some nice dogs though. now that i think about it i didn't see a single cat, even outside of built-up areas. can't really find any info on this though

sensible laws around things like noise pollution, home schooling (illegal!), shop opening hours

i actually like that most places close on sunday. very peaceful and quiet

slightly more religious than the UK. there are some very cool brutalist churches though

OH YEAH. buildings in general just prettier. there seemed to be a different attitude to the UK when it came to rebuilding post-war (very much emulating what was there before). but even an ugly german building is more interesting to me than an ugly british building. i absolutely despise the soulless housing estates we have here

Hi! To me personally, that didn't seem too polite. I'm not mad at anyone, however, I put immense amounts of time and energy and love into my blog, and for someone to drop into my inbox, without so much as a hello, and ask me to make more effort so that they don't have to see a very small percentile (like I said in my original response - 3) of my posts.

Additionally, I did actually say that 'politely and for my own peace of mind', and that I genuinely meant my response nicely. The phone also, as I said, works both ways. I went through my blog, made sure that the poly141 posts were tagged accordingly, however, the anon in question does also have the ability to scroll past. That's the great thing about the internet.

I'd like to reiterate that the writers of this fandom don't just exist on Tumblr, we have lives and families and jobs and educations. Writing is something we choose to do during our free time. For free. For others to enjoy.

Seeing as this is turning into an essay, I'll finish off with saying: politeness is free. Treating those who create content for you to enjoy with respect is free. A 'hello' or even just a 'thank you!' is free. I'd really like to put this discussion to rest, because this is my blog, and I don't feel as though I should have to justify my actions or setting my boundaries. REQUEST | what nazuna is like on anniversaries (in general)

There is never a time that Nazuna forgets any sort of anniversary, whether it be your wedding anniversary, engagement anniversary, or even your first meeting anniversary. The marks on his calendar are simply for show; whether or not they’re there, he remembers. They are days he looks forward to, as well as days he looks back on the past as well. Whether it be the good, the bad, and the okay times, he remembers all of it. After all, everything that happened, no matter what it was, helped shape both you and him together. 

As if he doesn’t always do a little extra for you, on those days, he’ll take another serving of “doing extra”. He puts a little bit more into your lunch, leaving another cheesily cute message on top and adding a little trinket he found that he thought you’d find to be cute. He’d make dinner, something you love, something special for the both of you. He texts you just a bit more frequently, and while he doesn’t want to disturb you too much while you complete the commitments you’ve made, he just can’t help but miss you ever more. 

There is absolutely no way to forget the date, when he kisses you “good morning” and says that there’s “something special planned”. From the very first moment of the day, there’s a warm smile on his face. His focus is you and only you, and it’s a day not for anyone else but the two of you. He kisses your forehead, your cheeks, your lips. He lets out giggles and whispers that wake you up gently. When he plays with your hair, it’s hard not to laugh with him and kiss him back, his arms around you and yours going around him. 

If there’s two things that are his best helpers when planning something to do, it’s the search engine and his notes app. Nazuna’s research and note taking skills are no joke, and if it’s for you, he tries nothing but his hardest to make it different, special, and enjoyable. Although, as time goes on, he gets to know you a lot better, and soon enough, he doesn’t need the internet too much for reference. After all, this is for you, and how better else to make an event special than to truly personalize it for you and him only? 

Before anything planned, though, he’s just a little nervous. He’s afraid that it won’t go exactly as planned, maybe something horribly wrong- but what’s to say it won’t go completely and differently wonderful? Who knows? When it starts, though, Nazuna gets completely immersed, and his heart takes him wherever he needs to go. By then, he realizes that he doesn’t need to worry, that you’re happy being there with him and he’s happy being there with you- and that’s all that matters.

The several IC offers to help Daffodil in her search has inspired me to do something a little more organised! Here's the deal: Your character, if they so choose to, can help Daffodil in her search, can now join her "party"! This will allow them have a chance to appear in the background for future asks, plot posts, or even do actions to help in finding the children. (Of course, I will check over actions with you to make sure it's in character!)

So what would you need to do? 1. Send an ask where your character approaches Daffodil! Regular interaction ask stuff, just get your character to interact as they normally do. 2. Once I answer (No promises I can get to them all, but its always worth a try! Its more likely i can answer than not). Make a reply post! Please have your character offering or choosing to tag along, just so it's clear to me. Art and/or writing both welcome. Just make sure to put in effort, since the purpose here is not to get free art. 3. That's it! You're always free to continue to interaction if I manage a reply back, but I'll count your character into helping the party. Daffodil may begin acknowledge them in the posts on this blog, and fun stuff like that. Your character is also welcome to send in follow up asks as they continue to help search.

Hope this will be fun! I thought it'd be nice to establish some cross-blog relationships quicker by setting this up. I've called this a "segment" part of the blog since... I don't think this will last too long, since this is kind of a transitional event of the blog but I wanted to have fun while I had the idea. discussion #4 (only friends): only friends cast as the seven deadly sins [part 2]

in part 1, i've compartmentalised mew as sloth, top as pride, ray as gluttony and san as greed. in part 2, i'm going to lay out my observations on the remaining three characters: boston, nick and namchueam.

as i've mentioned previously, this is just an observation from my perspective. the discussions i posted are meant to welcome inputs from other users everywhere. hence, please take it with a grain of salt (as always) ^^

without further ado, let's begin!

boston | envy

like top, the instant verdict i have on boston is envy.

if i can say, boston is the typical antagonist in any movie/drama. his mission is to wreak havoc in everyone's lives. but what are the circumstances? what does boston get from ruining mew and top specifically? it's as simple as happiness— but in a deeper sense, it satisfies the dissatisfaction in him.

i've discussed a bit about topboston's dynamic in this and this post. and i've mentioned in the first part of this discussion that boston and top have a one-sided relationship with them being either on the giving or receiving end. it's baffling because we don't know exactly the motif behind this relationship. is it because of normalcy? or is it because boston is so used to having top as top is so used to coming back to boston?

it's mutual in a way they cave into each other— the sex— and nothing else. as perceived from both trailers, top doesn't like boston. yes, they still have sex. yes, top still meets boston even after he's with mew. but that doesn't make boston special. that doesn't solidify the lingering relationship they have. it's all casual. it's all just for the sex.

side note: when top says, "before, when i had sex with someone else, my only concern was whether or not i came," i was really baffled. i don't understand the purpose of saying that to mew while they're just showering (?), but as i'm writing this post, it kind of adds to the discourse of top only seeing boston as a 'bed friend'. nothing more, nothing less. (or top is just deceiving mew because he wants to look 'nice' in front of his boyfriend. if this is the case, top, you motherfucker.)

but how about boston? why is he 'envy'?

exhibit #1: a realisation that came a bit too late

from both trailers, we see boston mingling with top and nick the most. he resorts to nick when top isn't available— or when top is already in a relationship with mew.

like top, boston doesn't really see this relationship they share as romantic (initially). it's for the fun— i perceive boston as carefree, apathetic, volatile and manipulative. no strings attached kind of guy. you only live once! but the moment he learns top is slipping away from his fingers— top chooses mew over him— it's when he realises he can't let it happen.

particularly, i'm inclining to the notion that boston doesn't really like top romantically. it's more to that sacrilegious intent of ownership and possessiveness. that's one of the commonalities i notice in topboston's dynamic. they treat each other like objects. they think they can put their names on things they like and keep it all to themselves. (humans don't work like that, loves... they don't deserve to be tagged and dragged carelessly.)

when the truth is out (i'm most curious to know how it happens)—

—i have a feeling this is top and mew might find this photo someday, somewhere—

—boston keeps shoving to mew's face that without his help, mew wouldn't even get 'the top guy'.

bonus: mew ninja-kicked boston to oblivion (read: the pool) and it's so satisfying to watch.

additionally, boston also thinks he can 'get what's [his]' back anytime. again, this proves the idea of ownership boston has over his relationship with top.

these characteristics can also be found in top and ray. but what differentiates boston from them is he acts on his feelings negatively. how?

exhibit #2: constantly perceived as 'the bad guy'

in their friend group, boston is the villain. mew, ray and namchueam think of him as a 'traitor' for one reason— for breaking mew's heart. the group is somehow dispersed into two sub-groups, mew defender vs mew betrayer (note: mew betrayer is initially just boston. but i found something particularly interesting that would make ray a mew betrayer too. i might delve into this in my future discussion).

boston says this. it's hinting that ray isn't a good friend to mew either.

namchueam says, "friends don't do this to each other," but i wonder if boston has ever seen them as friends. what are friends anyway?

boston's envy is open. he doesn't hide it. he doesn't deny it. he is somewhat proud of making everyone suffer because if he doesn't get something, no one will. and because of that envy, karma will hit him someday (mew will fuck him good. i reckon).

nick | lust

the word 'love' only comes out from nick. i find that very interesting because he's openly voicing his needs— he wants boston to love him back.

nick is lust in the context of wanting boston all to himself. he desires boston, not just his body, but his soul, his time, his attention, his everything. they might've started as a one-night stand, but nick's affection grows. however, this is nick's mistake. he misinterprets those signs as something more— when everything is merely casual for boston.

i spent the night with you? i was just lonely.

top didn't take my calls. i need company.

i'm bored. let's go out?

these instances clouded nick's brain that maybe— maybe— his love can change boston and boston can love him back.

all nick ever wants from boston is love.

but it's impossible because—

boston doesn't do love. he doesn't understand love. he doesn't want to love.

again, boston objectifies everything, and love isn't an exception. he sees love— humans— as objects he can play with, and nick is just that. nothing more.

but i can't blame nick for loving boston. especially when boston says this—

side note: (emphasising the word my because that changes and affects nick so deeply. it adds so much to his delusion that he has a chance with boston).

once we share an intimate connection with someone (in this case, nick and boston had sex multiple times, i believe), it's like being cast under a spell. we can't quite figure out the consequences, let alone come-up with rational decisions because love makes everything so beautiful and wonderful. love is indeed blind. the basic human desire (aside from food, water, and shelter) is a sense of belonging.

nick just wants to love and be loved. but he falls for the wrong person. and the love he has— the urge he harbours— for boston— is seen as another frail attempt of prohibiting freedom— of placing a box over boston. even though boston loves objectifying people/things, he doesn't like being objectified. yet, nick's love cages and restricts boston's liberty to be with someone other than nick.

namchueam | wrath

we don't get much of namchueam's storyline. but my speculation of her character is she's the collector of everyone's wrath.

exhibit #1: standing up for mew

she's visibly voicing her thoughts about boston's behaviour.

i'm manifesting for mew and namchueam to be the best of friends particularly because of this scene and this post (also, it's like paying hommage to cher and tian's wonderful friendship in a boss and a babe. also, i like seeing p'book and lookjun together hehe). she states her ground by saying whatever shit boston did is unacceptable and friends just don't do that to friends, you know?

exhibit #2: a walking comfort

this scene is very brief but i'm suspecting it's namchueam and title's character having a little i'm here for you moment.

this makes me wonder if title's character likes san (from the mock trailer)—

—and he's heartbroken after knowing san and ray's relationship.

i regress.

the point is, i think namchueam is the peacemaker in the group (at least she tries to be). she absorbs all the negatives from these three knuckleheads and releases them by being a loving girlfriend and just gorgeous and beautiful.

she takes the wrath of her friends and turns it into positivity because these men just don't know how to communicate and it's her job to knock some senses in their heads.

conclusion

after watching the trailer, i somehow see the correlation these characters have with the seven deadly sins. although some points aren't strong enough to show its relevance, i hope it gives a deeper outlook about these characters and their alter egos. i believe, once the drama airs next week, we'll get to see more shades of them. and as i said in my previous post, everyone belongs to the good and bad.

have  you  heard  the  latest  ?  palm  springs  is  absolutely  gorgeous  this  time  of  year,  the  beautiful  flowers,  soft  wind  to  cool  you  off  after  a  nice  dip  in  the  pool,  the  perfect  golden  hour  for  selfies  on  your  instagram  feed.  the  only  thing  that  would  make  it  even  more  elegant  ?  the  colour  white. that’s  right,  super  rich  kids,  it’s  the  annual  white  party,  hosted  by  the  reboot  executives  from  all  streaming  services.  call  it  a  bonding  session;  every  person  associated  with  a  reboot  has  been  provided  a  glamorous  looking  invitation,  summoning  them  to  palm  springs  for  a  beautiful  white  party  full  of  food,  drinks  and  dancing  to  bring  the  streaming  services  together  and  make  sure  everyone  is  beginning  to  get  comfortable  with  one  another. however,  don’t  get  too  comfortable,  emily  and  aria  are  hiding  around  the  corner,  watching  the  every  moves  of  these  new  starlets,  wanting  to  get  every  dirty  deed  under  their  own  belt  for  future  purposes.  besides,  it’s  not  a  white  party  if  someone  isn’t  leaving  with  a  red  wine  stain  on  their  dress  or  tux  –  who  do  you  reckon  will  be  the  culprit  and  victim  this  year  ? the  rules  are  quite  straight  forward  —  only  wear  white.  and  before  you  even  ask,  no,  silver  is  not  white.  those  who  are  incapable  of  following  the  rules  will  be  turned  down  at  the  door  and  refused  entry;  making  a  scene  will  not  change  the  minds  of  these  security  guards  (if  you  ask  emily,  they  are  built  beautifully).  additionally,  individuals  are  encouraged  to  make  a  beautiful  donation  to  the  charity  of  their  choice,  where  their  streaming  service  ceo’s  will  match  the  donation  for  each  individual  who  does  so. so  get  your  outfits  planned,  your  flights  books  and  bags  packed.  it’s  time  to  put  all  your  troubles  away  and  head  to  palm  springs  !

our  first  event  !  and  taking  inspiration  from  the  iconic  gossip  girl  themselves.  this  event  will  be  taking  place  within  palm  springs  and  everyone  received  this  invitation  months  prior  to  make  sure  they  were  able  to  rsvp.

in  play,  characters  will  be  in  attending  the white  party  on  feb.  3rd.  out  of  play,  the  event  will  last  two  weeks,  beginning  on  jan.  28th  &  ending  on  feb.  11th.  this  will  allow  everyone  to  have  a  chance  to  have  some  threads  and  stir  up  some  drama.

Tales From The Front Log: Endless Ocean Luminous

This was a $30-$40 game labelled as a $60 one. It’s fun but after a day or two you’ll find yourself quickly bored. Yikes. I don’t have a lot of nice things to say about this one. I’m not angry at it, but I’m just going to lay it all out as it is.

Endless Ocean suffers from what I consider to be the worst thing that can happen to a game. It’s just… not much to talk about. It’s largely nothing. Good games will be remembered. Bad games will also be remembered. Maybe not made again, but we still talk about trite like Superman 64.

Nothing games? No one talks about. Which is sad because I love games like this, but I don’t see this as a franchise Nintendo will continue to make because no one from the casual sphere will be asking for it after this. (And despite what many folks believe, you need casuals to buy games like this from companies like Nintendo to convince the corpos that they are still worth making).

Let’s talk about this ocean diving game and where it went wrong.

Firstly the story-mode. Hate it. The story itself is very… okay. Nothing special but serviceable. My big problem is the progression. It’s locked behind doing TONS of exploring instead of just letting players enjoy the story at the pace they want to enjoy it! (Probably because players would finish it in a matter of hours and put it down forever because it would have little left to offer. The replay value is nonexistent and there is no incentive to play longer.)

Additionally the only person who ever speaks is your AI computer companion and I could not care less about anything that thing says. It’s dull and lazy. All the divers just flail around. You’re telling me we can have special magic fish which I can suck the light out of to save magic coral, but no communicators so the divers can actually speak to each other? Okay💨.

I’m being harsh here. But when I see a $60 price tag with Nintendo’s name attached I expect more than this. And while I am going to get into the stuff I like it’s hard to ignore to mediocre nature of the game.

For example this game is just… empty. It feels weirdly lifeless despite being heavily populated by fish. Probably because they don’t feel like they’re really there sometimes. You can swim right through nearly all the models. The maps are huge but I actually think this is a disservice because they largely don’t do anything interesting with them. There aren’t many different biomes to visit randomly, you can’t interact with anything other than treasures that just give you nearly meaningless currency. It’s just diet New Pokemon Snap. And Pokemon Snap arguably does the job much better despite being on rails.

And the more I think about it… the more I realize that it really does have a LARGE amount of similarities with New Pokemon Snap in terms of story and function. Even down to the luminescent giant creatures! I would almost say if you want the Endless Ocean: Luminous experience of wandering around looking at stuff you should just go play that. The environments are prettier, Pokemon react to your presence, Pokemon react to each other, you interact with environment, you get items, and you get tons of unique biomes. Or just play the original Endless Ocean games because they’re way better.

In Endless Ocean: Luminous you’re just kinda dropped off in a big blue pool. The water even looks kinda hazy when you’re in it. There’s no weather, no sunsets, no beautiful ocean moonlit nights. Just… big blue planes of nothing. And there are fun places to explore sometimes. Like ruins, old ships, some caves, and the depths. This is in the minority though.

In majority there’s big flat sand planes of fucking blue nothing. With rocks. And you’ll spend more time there than you will anywhere else. Especially in multiplayer.

That’s all you really do in Endless Ocean: Luminous. You wander around and look at shit. Which I like games like this in theory. Outer Wilds and Paradise Killer are also “look around” games. But they also have compelling narratives and gimmicks to keep players hooked. And I’m not arguing it’s not fun to poke around in Endless Ocean: Luminous. I did have a fun time swimming around. I’m just also saying you’ll get bored quick.

This extends to the multiplayer. Which boils down to who can wander around and look at everything the fastest. That’s it. You’re given emotes but players rarely interact with each other and are given basically no incentive to. I guess you can join the mode to feel less lonely. It’ll get you through the story mode quicker than working on your own.

I just… additionally one of the big selling points was you could be with up to 30 people in a room but this isn’t quite true. It’s up to 10 random people. The other TWENTY you need to have friends or join a stream. And practically NO ONE was streaming this on Twitch ON LAUNCH. The amount was painfully low for a Nintendo IP. I wasn’t expecting Mario numbers but it was kinda pathetic. 🤷‍♀️ I was genuinely disappointed. The large amount of players in one room sounded fun.

But at the same time 10 players on one map can actually be too much at times and leave little for players to do as you witch hunt for the one fish that hasn’t been scanned. A weird conundrum.

So… what did I like about this game??? I did mention I would talk about stuff I liked.

The variety of fish was good. I like that all the fish got factoid excerpts that could be read aloud. Though I’m irked I can’t play the verbal explanation and look around at the same time. While the game is very basic it’s still fun to poke around and look at stuff! There is interesting stuff to look at. I appreciate the fantasy elements.

I like the idea of the fish bosses you have to lure out. Though I wish luring them out required learning about the fish and using something special for that fish to get them to reveal themselves. They want it to be a big grand event but it’s really not.

The fish models actually look really good and detailed. If you know your ocean life you can properly identify the fish for what they are. As someone who loves ocean life this actually matters to me quite a bit. Weirdly enough I’m disappointed the plant/coral life was lacking. It would’ve been a good way to add to the catalogue. Might just be a me thing but ocean plants are as equally interesting as the fish.

I appreciate that there’s no combat. As I don’t have a strong spine for ocean horror. (I have to play Subnautica with creature aggression turned completely off.).

Fish companions. Great choice. Being able to unlock bigger fish friends over time and respecting their dive capacity was also a great choice. My favorite ended up being the starfish since they could just attach to your tank. Too cute. (Though… we needed urchins in the game too. Just saying…)

Actually. This leads me to another real niche nitpick. We can have fantasy fish but the all the plants outside of the World Coral are BLAND normal ass plants??!?

MORE PLANTS and CORAL GOD DAMMIT. I WANT TO LOOK AT PRETTY PLANTS WITH MY PRETTY FISH. It’s not a lot to ask! I want Subnautica level plant decoration even if it’s on a budget. Barbie Ocean Discovery has more COLOR in the background for Christ’s sake.

*Ahem*. Sorry. Ocean stuff is a hyper fixation, but I promise I’m not actually mad. Ha ha. Can you imagine?

The customizable avatar and emotes is… cute. Really. I swear. But you likely won’t last long enough to unlock anything truly complex before moving on.

The idea of events is cute, but don’t mean much. It’s largely just increased rates for rare creatures to appear. Eh.

In short Endless Ocean: Luminous is a fairly empty game with a LOT of padding for $60. You can tell they wanted a cozy game that players would play for longer than a few days, but you likely won’t. I’m not going to argue it’s valueless to pick up. I’m just going to say that you deserve to not buy it at the price Nintendo wanted us to buy it at.

Buy it on sale and just accept it for what it is.

MC had fallen inlove with the sight unfolding before her eyes the very first time she set foot on one of those panoramic terraces in Comte's mansion.

It was no wonder why many of the residents enjoyed taking their conversations outside in the warm months, nor why they put their hands on the railing and took a deep breath when a concern pestered their mind. Regardless if you're a smoker or a hopeless romantic, the sight of the city of Paris buzzing with life in the distance would make a good companion, even if for short.

Now, MC knew that there are even higher hills in the area than the one that St Germain's mansion is built upon. She'd seen them many times when riding with Napoleon, but she hasn't thought much about them until now.

Spending her day off with her lover is always an adventure, without a way of knowing whether he'd take her on a patisserie tour around town or make a pillow fort in their room to participate in his favorite sleepy cuddles.

Going for a hike feels nice for a change. When she realizes they're approaching one of those same hills she'd admired before, it only made her smile in anticipation. Was Napoleon aware of her wish of reaching the top, or was it a coincidence that he choose this for their date spot? With the way she's been enthusiastic about most things they do together, she'd go with the latter if she had to guess…

The hill is not particularly steep or dangerous to climb, but Napoleon still opted for staying just behind her, just in case she misses her step. The clothes they chose for today are light and comfortable for the sake of their activity, with MC dusting off some of the clothes that she came through the door with, all the way from the 21st century. Additionally, Sebastian had come here with a whole wheeled suitcase worth of luggage, he had spare t-shirts and trousers. Needless to say, he was overly excited to offer a change of clothes to Napoleon just for situations like those. Their size didn't diverge enough to make Sebastian's clothes look funny on Napoleon, instead they gave him an interesting new aura; something casual and even cool about the way he carries himself when in them.

"You have to wait another decade or two for those to get mainstream, but you can still wear them now if you like how they feel. I'm sure Comte will figure something out before Sebas can be left without clothes because of his generosity…"

Napoleon snorts at the last part of her comment, still touched that she thinks about his comfort. He'd spoken his mind quite a few times about modern clothes, a man impressed by humankind's achievements that he always was. Achieving comfort in clothing, too, is something that he can appreciate, as he never was the one to please the time's standards of beauty when they lacked so greatly in the comfort department, neither when he was alive, nor now. Heck, he even hates buttoning his shirt all the way up.

"I can get used to that. Your offer about eloping through the door and living together in the 21st century still stands, right?"

MC laughs it off, carrying a hint of embarrassment on her cheeks where Napoleon can't see because he's busy being a knight in shining armor watching over her step. Very well, then.

That something about him that she can't wrap her head around and why it has such effect on her, inducing head-spinning, heart-throbbing sensations, she now realizes, might be… Napoleon is looking awfully boyfriend material in those clothes. It's silly, it makes no sense, he already IS her boyfriend. But damn did he rock the casual style so much. Maybe if she ever was to be isekai-ed (again?!), she'd want to be his highschool sweetheart, or something like that.

"We're here."

She didn't realize there is no more way up than this point when the ground got more even, under her feet. Napoleon moves to stand next to her side now, but takes her hand and steps forward when she hesitates. Maybe she's afraid of reaching the edge, but he would make sure that they're keeping their safe distance.

"Woah…!"

It's more than she'd imagined. Knowing the area from ground level is one thing, but being able to capture it all in the pupil of your eye like that, from above… it's incredible.

"Is that the mansion?! Oh my god…"

Napoleon looks in the direction she points to, and shields his line of sight from the bright sun with a hand above his eyes. Their home stands among the mass of greenery with its white façade, hard to miss even all the way from here.

"Look, Napoleon, there is someone in the garden… is that Mozart?"

Napoleon hums, noting the light color of the barely distinguishable figure.

"What, Mozart being outside? Let's be real, it's probably Vincent."

MC chuckles, nodding at his deduction. They're still holding hands.

The mansion is not the only thing catching the eye. With Paris situated further in the distance and their added height, the mass of buildings and streets and the busy life trapped inbetween seems even tinier from up here. And in the same time its size grows bigger than the limited vision of it she had from the mansion, and it's quite prettier, too.

"It's very beautiful."

"You're more beautiful."

MC looks at Napoleon, catching her bottom lip between her teeth for a second, then sighing. Of course he'd say that…

"Napoleon…"

"I've seen this place before and my first thought was about you. I knew that you'd say 'it's beautiful', so I took you here just so I can reply with that. You're more beautiful."

MC blinks, turning his gaze to him just as he turns his to the sight before them.

"You took me here for that? Not so I could admire the sight?"
