I discovered Satan is canon in the Fallout games because I watched an 80s claymation film about Mark Twain
So, I ran into this video while browsing on YouTube, titled "Creepiest scene from any kids movie - Adventures of Mark Twain":
youtube
Normally when people say that a scene in a kids movie is creepy, it's actually not that creepy, and they're just reading too far into it with some sort of twisted spin while insisting "no seriously you guys, this is really fucked up." I went into this clip expecting a quirky animated scene from an old movie. What I got was a genuinely unsettling experience, and possibly the most unique take on Satan I have ever seen in film.
The animation is in the uncanny valley to begin with, but it takes a turn a few minutes in after Satan helps the kids build this palace full of little people. The spite begins to show on his face, and he conjures natural disasters to kill all of the people, which the viewers get to see in excruciating, haunting detail, juxtaposed with Satan's detached and scornful thoughts about humanity. At the end of it, he says "I can do no wrong, for I do not know what it is."
Naturally, I had to know more, and that led me to the Mysterious Stranger Manuscripts. If you're a fan of the Fallout series, you can see where this is going.
For context, this movie adapts several of Mark Twain's stories and threads them into a narrative about Mark Twain taking an airship to Halley's Comet. This scene is based on a few unfinished versions of a story by Mark Twain, all concentric around Satan coming to a small town. Of the three stories, only the last one is considered finished because it has an ending. The title is No. 44, the Mysterious Stranger.
Here is Wikipedia's summary of Satan's introduction in this story:
"One day, a handsome teenage boy named Satan appears in the village. He explains that he is an angel and the nephew of the fallen angel whose name he shares. Young Satan performs several magical feats. He claims to be able to foresee the future and informs the group of unfortunate events that will soon befall those they care about. The boys do not believe Satan's claims until one of his predictions comes true. Satan proceeds to describe further tragedies that will befall their friends. The boys beg Satan to intercede. Satan agrees but operates under the technical definition of mercy. For instance, instead of a lingering death due to illness, Satan simply causes one of Theodor's friends to die immediately."
In the Fallout games, you can get the Mysterious Stranger perk (aka Mysterious Savior, Guardian Angel, etc), in which a Mysterious Stranger will randomly spawn and help you kill your enemies using a .44 Magnum. The name, the No. 44, the ability to basically insta-kill things?
His identity is clear. He's the actual fucking devil.

Claydream is on streaming now!
Actually it has been for a while lol but I forgot to check in. Now you can watch this wonderfully made documentary about Will Vinton, creator of the California Raisins, Adventures of Mark Twain, the Gnome King scenes in Return to Oz, etc... he was a major trailblazer in the world of stop-motion animation! If you've heard of LAIKA studios, they grew out of his previous studio and the doc covers allll that drama there.
If you love stop-motion animation this is a must see!!! I hope they release DVDs but I doubt they will.

In defense of Jax: The only reason why he bullies Gangle so much is because he's trying to stop Satan from destroying the Digital Circus.
