🇪🇺🇵🇸 EUROPEAN UNION COMMISSION ANNOUNCES THEY WILL NOT BE SUSPENDING AID TO PALESTINE AFTER MEMBER REVOLT

The European Commission announced on Monday they would be suspending aid to Palestine, then quickly backtracked, further announcing aid would NOT be suspended.

Earlier Monday, European Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi had told reporters that all payments from the development program for Palestinians would be "immediately suspended" with "all projects put under review. All budget proposals... postponed until further notice."

Then later today, the European Commission released a short statement saying, "there will be no suspension of payments."

The initial announcement took member states by surprise, with Spain, Ireland and Luxembourg dissenting and critics accusing the European Union of collective punishment against Palestinian civilians.

“[Foreign Minister] Jose Manuel Albares called European Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi to say he disagrees with this decision,” Spain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said following the initial announcement.

“Our understanding is that there is no legal basis for a unilateral decision of this kind by an individual commissioner and we do not support a suspension of aid,” a spokesman for Ireland’s foreign ministry had also said.

Luxembourg's Foreign Minister followed suit, expressing their refusal to support the proposal.

Operation Olive Branch is a continuously updating spreadsheet of Palestinian escape funds where progress towards their goals is being tracked. As of right now, there are over 100 funds listed there.

Any amount of money can make a difference. With their recent decision to bomb Rafah, the only remaining “safe” territory in Gaza, Israel has forced Palestinians into a corner by giving them nowhere else to go. The international community has given Israel the ability to act with impunity - it is long past the point in time to rely on those in power to hold Israel to any standard of compassion.

This settlement is located 10 kilometers south of Jerusalem, and is inhabited by about 100,000 settlers who live on an area of about 4,300 dunams

🇪🇺🇵🇸 EUROPEAN UNION COMMISSION SUSPENDS ALL AID TO PALESTINIANS

The European Commission on Monday told reporters it was putting its full €691 million [$728 million] portfolio for development aid to Palestinians on hold until it can be fully reviewed.

Under the current regime, the European Union would invest €1.2 billion [$1.265 billion] from 2021 through 2024 for Palestinian development aid.

Separately, both Germany and Austria have announced they will be reviewing aid to Palestine, with Austria suspending aid until the review is completed.

"The scale of terror and brutality against Israel and its people is a turning point," Oliver Varhelyi, the European Union Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement, said in a post on X.

"There can be no business as usual," he continued, adding: "The foundations for peace, tolerance and co-existence must now be addressed. Incitement to hatred, violence and glorification of terror have poisoned the minds of too many. We need action and we need it now."

Graphic design artist Moataz Abu Sakran/ @moatazart has provided extensive documentation of the genocide against Gaza. His photos and videos have been used—often without credit—by major media outlets, and his posts are featured on this blog regularly.

Moataz and his wife and baby girl are trapped in the vicinity of Al-Shifa Hospital complex. The area has was under complete siege for 13 days, and made life even more difficult and dangerous than before. In addition to the physical violence of the siege, the occupation’s famine has made food extremely scarce—Moataz and Mariam can no longer find milk and nutritious food for baby Maria.

They were able to raise enough funds to begin the paperwork involved in evacuating to Egypt, but exorbitant processing fees have totally depleted the money they had reserved to find a place to stay in Egypt. They need funds to procure food and shelter while they rebuild their lives in Egypt (God willing), otherwise they will be homeless and destitute.

There was an increase in donations after we initially shared the link on this blog. We are hoping that will happen again. Please support Moataz’s family via this link so that they can reach safety. Even just a few dollars will help. If you can’t donate, please share the link on all your social media accounts.
