Baby Honey

You and Michael hadn't been dating for very long, but it felt as if you'd been each other's lives forever. He was the most perfect person to you, and to everyone who's luckily his friend. He's freshly picked spring flowers, the rain of blush cherry blossoms, he's the warmth of a summers heat, the refreshing feeling of a cool pool, he's the comfort of autumn, the crunch of the dried leaves, he's the merry atmosphere of winter, the fireplace in the chill of the night.

He snuck up behind you from where you were at the kitchen counter getting things together for your picnic, and pressed many kisses to your shoulders. "Hey baby honey, got everything?" Michael queries, placing the picnic blanket into the basket. "Pretty sure, fruit, snacks, sandwiches, cakes." You look at the list you had written and ticked everything off. "I think you're missing something." He adds. "Oh yeah? What's that?" Spinning around to face Michael, you're met with a look of admiration. "A kiss?"

You wrap your arms loosely around his shoulders and pull him closer, grazing your lips on his, slowly adding pressure before quickly pulling away, leaving him in a daze. "I almost forgot the lemonade!" You exclaim and run to the fridge, fetching the homemade bitter drink. "C'mon peach, otherwise it'll be night by the time we get to the beach." You call for Michael, taking your belongings to the car.

There was no real 'reason' for you to have this picnic, but both of your days were clear, and the sun smiled brightly over the world, so you decided a day out was well deserved.

You had settled in the passengers seat, and are shortly joined by Michael, sporting a fake pout. "You're a tease." You grin proudly at him, putting the radio on and allowing the notes to drive you to the beach.

Upon your arrival, you can see the tranquil turquoise waves crawl along the glittery sand. The sky is lightly painted with fluffy dreams, the sweet clementine's warmth lighting up the blues. You both collect your belongings and find the perfect spot; close enough to the waves so you could still hear the calming swoosh of the water, but not too close so your food was at the threat of becoming soggy. You lay out the blanket as Michael begins to unpack the basket, pouring the pair of you some lemonade and spreading out the picnic.

"Cheers." Michael says, tapping your glass with his, and taking a sip, his eyes constantly lingering on your glowing body. "I think we chose the perfect day." You're admiring how to waves kiss the shore, basking in the licks of the beams. "I think I chose the most perfect partner." Your boyfriend dreamily states. You shift, and dig for the camera that you had packed. "Here, give us a smile," you hold it up to your eyes, making sure to get the enticing scenery and your other half in the picture. "Gorgeous." You add, staring at the image.

Michael holds up a ruby strawberry for you, so you lean forward and take a bite, commending the honeyed juices to drip and run down your lips. He often wondered how you could still look so appealing when you're in a sticky mess, and how he'd never seen a more angelic person than you. You're too focus on the sweet flavours of the fruit to notice Michael picking up the camera and taking a burst of photos, a love-ridden grin covering his face when he sees the results. "What are you smiling at?" You question, after finishing the strawberry and seeing how he seemed to be in a daze. "You. You're just the most perfect person. You're so beautiful and kind and gentle and sensitive and calming. You know that feeling of just being at peace, no worries or stresses? That's how I constantly feel around you. You're my zen, and no matter how many times I say 'thank you' it'll never completely show my abundance of gratefulness." Your eyesight is drawn from the equipment in his sandy hands, to his baby blues, soaking in their light. It's silent for a moment, but not the quietness at the doctors, or the uncomfortable stillness in an exam. It's not the lull of an empty cemetery. Rather, it's a curing hush; a hush that you bathe in, with the slight noise of gentle waves and the odd caw from a seagull.

'I love you,' You both mouth to each other at the same time, the lack of voice fitting in with the reticence. And although it's the first time you've 'said' it to each other, there's no rushing feelings. There's no adreline or overbearing nerves. It's calm, and relaxed. It's still calm and relaxed as you press your lips together, and it's still calm and relaxed when his hands slithers up your waist to the back of your neck, somehow pushing you even closer. And it's still calm and relaxed when you're both panting, trying to catch some air that you lost in the moment.

After a second or two of recollecting yourself, you remove your top and shorts, revealing the swimwear you wore underneath. "Care to join me?" You ask cheekily, running away into the sea. Michael grins at you for a while, before chasing after you and tackling you into the sand, causing you to fall into a fit of giggles as you drag him down with you. You both creep out further into the sea, but still shallow enough for you to be able to touch the bottom. You push a salty wave in Michael's direction, sticking out your tongue, and he returns the favour, matching your facial expression. He swims closer to you, and sweeps his arms under your legs, picking you up and tugging you to his wet yet warm chest. You glance lovingly up at him, and push his drenched strands away from his sun-kissed freckled face, pressing your lips to his. Whilst you're still under the spell of the kiss, he tosses you back into the sea, the water submerging you, but you're still able to hear his heartfelt chuckle. You tickle his stomach as revenge, and then come back to surface, met with a face of an angel. Michael helps you find some stability, wrapping his arms around your waist, yours laced around his torso, the pair of you drifting closer to the shore so you could easily stand. Just when you thought you'd be able to go back to blanket to dry off, a tide came crashing against your calves, knocking you both back into the nippy temperatures.

He weaves his fingers in between yours, and the two of you run back to the blanket, having a race against each other and the waves.

You realise that no matter how many times these waves come and go, the ocean is always going to be there; and that's exactly how you feel about Michael. No matter what turbulence or high tide, at the end of the day, you're always going to be right there, next to him.

You fall back onto the throw, your love soon joining you, and you both turn to face each other, his arm pillowing you. You shift closer, laying a hand on his chest and tucking your head into the curve of his neck, delicately placing butterfly kisses. "Thank you," Michael blurts out into the calm evening. "For all of this. But also for being the most perfect partner. Life with you is one big, beautiful beach. I love you." As he finishes, he turns to look at you directly into your eyes, emphasising his adoration for you. You index finger traces his jawline, and then you outline his facial features; his plump lips, his button nose, his sapphire eyes. "I am who I am because of you. You complete me. Not in the sense that I was half or missing a piece before I met you, but in the sense that with you, everything makes sense. And for that, and many other reasons, I love you." You reply, letting your eyes float to the sunset before you.

The sky was spread with apricot compote and raspberry jam, the tangerine's rich glow soon dripping behind the salty tide. It was bittersweet; the sun had gone to sleep to allow the moon to take the spotlight, the stars becoming the backing dancers of this nightly routine. Your vision was clear from any wisps of clouds, your ears filled with no sounds but the waves, and your heart topped with nothing but love.

You pressed your forehead against Michael's and sat like that for a while, trying to say all the unspoken words without a voice, occasionally giving each other small kisses.

The pair of you end up star gazing, showing each other patterns that you've noticed, or a planet, or a constellation as you finish up the drinks and snacks. And although the air turned crisp, your full tummy and the comforting atmosphere lulled you into a sleep. Michael moved any strands of hair disrupting his favourite view: you. He watched how your stomach slowly rose and fell, how you'd always have a slightly-there smile on your face, and he hoped that meant you were dreaming of him, like how he dreams of you. He slightly readjusted, planting kisses on your forehead as he moved his arm to try and pack away all of your assets.

He didn't want to disturb your sleep as he knew you struggled to get some slumber, and so he very gracefully and carefully picked you up, walking you back to the car and placing you in the passengers seat and strapping you in. He then wondered back to grab your gear, as he thought back on the day; all of the laughs he's shared, all of the smiles he's had, and all the memories he's created.

And the best part? It was all with you, his baby honey.

Your scale/graph of Anthro/Intelligent Animal Media brings up some interesting questions about how other furry-adjacent media fits in the system. Zootopia, for example, has enough modern human elements to reach a similar area as Robin Hood, but the characters being animals and the societal structure that creates is a big part of the main plot. Madagascar, on the other hand, has animals that can alternate between bipedal and quadropedal movement, use or even create tools and machinery but, while they can communicate just fine with other animals, in-universe humans can’t understand them, and they maintain the habits and social structure (or at least the general idea) from their IRL counterparts. To an extent that the zoo animals have idyllic aspirations of returning to “The Wild” and abandoning their more humanoid lifestyle.

Zootopia is non-euclidean furryspace! and was in fact the example I was thinking of when I said that if you go any further along the scale than Redwall, you are no longer writing anthropomorphic fiction, you're writing a normal story with anthro characters in it.

(Essentially, I have to respectfully disagree; the characters being animals isn't a plot point, because they're not "animals". They're furries. They are as much "animals" as humans are, ie, yeah but only in a taxonomic technicality. Their animalistic TRAITS are a plot point, but at that point, you're not writing a story about how animals navigate through and see the world, which is an essential part of writing actual anthropomorphic fiction. It's kind of in the name--when a story stops being about ANIMALS with PEOPLE traits, and starts being about PEOPLE with ANIMAL traits, you leave the "anthropomorphic fiction" genre.)

Madagascar on the other hand is a FASCINATING example!

Let's see. The Y axis, I'd place it--oh god dammit i JUST noticed that I never fixed a placement glitch/misclick. Somehow WD ended up further right than Black Beauty and Aristocats which is nonsensical. Fuck. That's gonna piss me off so bad--Sorry. Anyway.

The z-axis (degree of "talking animals" present) SEEMS like it would be the most straightforward. We see Alex trying to talk to humans and all they hear is roaring, so we already know that there's a lot of artistic license going on in terms of what WE see vs what IN-UNIVERSE HUMANS see. However they clearly don't realize this is happening, so I'd put it decently left of center--the animals understand and engage with humans to such a degree that they genuinely believe humans can understand them back.

The thing that makes its placement on the other axes tricky is the aforementioned translation convention. Like....it's obvious that what humans are seeing during Madagascar appears to them to be normal animal behavior. Presumably, they're NOT actually bipedal and that's just an artistic representation of how in-tune the characters are with their instincts at any given time.

On the X axis? Genuinely no idea--obviously they don't have a lot of natural behaviors, but that's because they're born and raised in captivity and have zero forms of natural enrichment in their unbelievably shitty enclosures (just saying). The presence of that translation convention where we KNOW that from a human perspective their behavior is interpreted as not outside the realm of believability makes it difficult.

That being said, the zookeepers clearly are aware of Marty's stash of birthday gifts over the years and Alex implies he was able to PURCHASE or otherwise request his own merchandise so I'm gonna put us pretty far left on the animalistic behavior scale.

This next bit would be easier if I'd phrased the y-axis better--I was genuinely struggling to put it into words, and I don't think I did a great job. Probably it would be better summarized as "animal culture replicates human culture" so we'll use that.

ALL the way at the bottom. It's made clear that there really is no "animal" culture. The zoo animals are fish out of water, but that's because they're New Yorkers dropped in a Madagascar jungle. The lemurs are not exhibiting what we're meant to view as natural lemur behavior; they even refer to Alex starting to exhibit natural behavior as "going savage" in a way they don't even seem to view the fossa hunters. So there's no unconnected, distinct animal cultures going on here. (Or, if they exist in theory somewhere, they are literally never depicted and their theoretical existence is actively denied at every opportunity.)

How many times would you guess you watched the first back to the future movie?

Since I only hopped on this time train towards the final third of the year lol: fully all the way through, at least 4! Otherwise I've jumped around a lot while looking for clips and references and stuff. So if I stitch all those together, then we'll say approx 5ish :) The first movie is my favorite one!

Noooo, I don't really have any merch for things I like, actually... it gives me too much anxiety to publicly show my interests ;w;

How many cans of Pepsi Free did you chug this year?

None LOL I don't really drink soda to begin with, but if I do, I prefer white (lemon lime) soda anyway :P

What was a favorite bttf fanfic you read this year?

I'm going to be honest, I... don't read fanfic very much. 🫣 I usually end up creating my own stuff (art/writing) when I have free time vs looking at other people's, which ik I need to get better at T_T So I don't have a loooot to rec... that being said I MUST shout out "Emmett's first weather expirement." by @alex-a-fans !!! <3 It is my greatest treasure of the year <333

Did you create any bttf fanart or fanfic? If you did, what one(s) are you proudest of?

Yes I did !!! It is actually the most fan content I've ever made for a fandom since I was in... maybe junior high? So like YUH. Tbh, it's very difficult for me to find what you would call 'pride' in my art so ehh >_>; that being said, I do think that I had a lot of good IDEAS for Doctober (esp days 19 and 28), but my execution wasnt really the best. I would have liked to draw days 17 and 24 (+ time travel day) a little more properly too; like, I'm not as disappointed at how they turned out, but I still wish they were better and/or I could have given them more time. The ones I most actually-tried-and-dont-mind are days 7, 9, and 21 + under the sea dance day. (So many links was probably cheating but tbf I've kinda bent the rules for the past few questions so... whatevs lol). I've ALSOOO still been working on my godforsaken essay, it is 40 pages rn but even tho it's not done, I'm INSANELY proud of it Q_Q

How many times were you late for school this year?

None! B) For one thing I'm graduated lol, but also I'm typically early gang. I'm that person who'd sit in the classroom by myself for like 5 minutes before everyone else would show up LMBO ^^;

Yess I did!! A... lot actually :0 Most of them were by chance/pre bttf era, but still :P Here is my list as well as I could find, sorry it is soooo long, but what are ya gonna do:

Star Wars/The Mandalorian; The Addams Family (1991); The Tale of Desperaux (2008); Cyberchase; & Clue (1985) -- Christopher Lloyd, havent rewatched the latter 3 since I was a kid and literally went :0 to learn he apparently was in them. Also Kings Quest (2015) which isn't a movie/show but I think it counts uwu

Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron (2002) & Curious George (2006) -- apparently these have Donald Fullilove (Goldie Wilson) in them? Same w Jason Scott Lee (Whitey) in Lilo & Stitch (2002)??? And Star Wars/Kenobi show apparently had Flea (Needles)????? ...HUH.

I binged both the entirety of Law and Order: SVU as well as Seinfeld this year w my sister; apparently Mary Steenburgen, Lea Thompson, & Casey Siemaszko (3-D) are in at least one episode of the former, while Elsa Raven (Clocktower Lady) and Ricky Dean Logan (Data) are apparently in a random episode of Seinfeld each. So like, technically I saw them, tho I don't distinctly remember it :'D Also, I have been making my way through Little House on the Prairie recently, which has Matt Clark (Chester the Bartender) in a few episodes !

Finally finally finally, I watched I Don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore (2017), as well as the LOTR trilogy like. Twice? And they all have Elijah Wood of course >:3c

Nooo, I didn't even know it existed until like October !!! It looks super fun but atm/last I checked it doesn't come to where I live so :( I should listen to the soundtrack soon!

If you could describe your year in a BTTF quote, which one would it be?

The year in general is definitely "Oh great, the atrocity channel!" LMBO (but when hasn't it been since like... 2020? 2016???). For me personally, I think it's either "I don't know if I could take that kind of rejection." or "Don't talk to anyone, don't touch anything, don't do anything, don't interact with anyone, and try not to look at anything." ^^;

I think I'm going to try to post more of the things I make, like my art and especially my writing ;w; Most of the time I'm quite George-ish and am too scared to put any of my stuff out there, for fear that no one will like it, so... I need to get better about that. Also I'd LIKE to get a full-time job and my own place some time next year, but we will see !!!
