I read "She Gets the Girl" last night and it was good, I love Molly and Alex's relationship and how it develops over the course of the book, however I do wish we got just one more chapter of them finally being together as a couple at the end cause it felt like there was all this build up and then they get together and it ends immediately and we don't get to see them being an actual couple

Riot Fest 2024 Preview: 5 Cant'-miss Non-headliners

Emo Friday, indie rock Saturday, metal Sunday seems to be the theme of this year's Riot Fest--at least for the bands in the big fonts on the poster. Of the bands previewed here, you've got your pop-punk farewell, your art rock heavyweight, and your post-punk up-and-comers, but also the finest of the alt-country and hip hop worlds today. Yes, I'm fully aware that two of them overlap, but who's to say you can't go half and half? Here are 5 can't-miss non-headliners.

FRIDAY

Sum 41, 6:05 PM, Cabaret Metro Stage

"I don't wanna believe that maybe this is the end," Deryck Whibley sings on "Landmines", a standout from Sum 41's eighth and final album Heaven :x: Hell (Rise). On the contrary, Whibley's been pretty publicly okay with hanging it up, and I have to imagine it's in no small reason due to the strength of the record, two discs that, respectively, dive into the pop punk of the band's early years and the more metal-adjacent sounds of their more recent releases. It's as if Sum 41's released a greatest hits album of their various aesthetics. The first disc, Heaven, opens with "Waiting on a Twist of Fate", an impassioned blast that Sum 41 can still do as well as anybody, and doesn't slow down for the majority of its runtime. Even the songs where Whibley expresses ennui are ripe for rousing singalongs, from the barnburner "Future Primitive" to the stadium-sized "Dopamine". The band sounds as exciting as ever; the interplay between Dave Baksh and Tom Thacker's guitars, and Frank Zummo's rolling drums propel songs like "Bad Mistake".

Impressively, the songs on Hell are no less catchy and perhaps even more dynamic, such as "Over the Edge", whose hardcore verses subside for the hooky chorus and an unexpected piano outro. "I Don't Need Anyone", a song written after the band decided on calling it quits, sports a big, swinging bassline from Jason McCaslin, as if to say, "We might miss playing music, but you're gonna miss the feeling you get when listening to us, more." They even find room to document their penchant for live covers, delivering a fairly straightforward though no less burly version of The Rolling Stones' "Paint it Black".

On closer "How the End Begins", Whibley's perhaps a little more honest than he was at the beginning of the album, singing, "Sometimes I wonder if I have enough to say / Or am I just an echo, a reflection of yesterday." Even if Heaven :x: Hell acts as a proper career retrospective, it's a hell of a time, something the band can be proud of for years to come. Catch them for the last time on Friday night and rap along to the immortal "Fat Lip".

Saturday

Waxahatchee, 6:15 PM, Radical Stage

Katie Crutchfield's brand of alt-country might be a stylistic outlier at Riot Fest, but that makes it all the more punk, if you ask me. Leaning into the high and lonesome has resulted in the two best Waxahatchee albums so far, 2020's Saint Cloud and this year's impressive Tigers Blood (Anti-). Hearing her and her venerable band play these songs, at golden hour? That's unbeatable.

St. Vincent, 6:35 PM, Cabaret Metro Stage

On St. Vincent's first self-produced album All Born Screaming (Total Pleasure), the oft-acting singer adopts her boldest persona yet: herself. Throughout the record, she sings about loss, grief, and the art of keeping on, with a sense of brutal honesty we haven't yet seen from Annie Clark. "Give it all away cause the whole world's watching you," she sings on groovy opener "Hell Is Near", ditching the idea of role atop swirls of syncopated synth layers, dramatic piano, and hypnotic twelve-string guitar. What she cares about most is being subsumed by the music--well, that, and you being subsumed by her music, Clark embedding herself in your ears, like on the slinky, whip-cracking "Flea", rife with her trademark guitar squalls.

Part of Clark's comparatively straightforward communication, though, is letting us know when she's struggling. On "Reckless", she's shaken by the idea that those she loves will one day be gone: "Hey, ma, I'm cracking up," she sings, her usual assured baritone morphing into a creaky falsetto. She uses industrial beats and repetition of phrases to mirror emotional states of panic or release, screaming over and over "What are you looking at?" during the outro of "Broken Man", ending the title track by consistently chanting "all born screaming" beside skittering drums and a propulsive synth line. At the same time, All Born Screaming still finds time for uplift. "Violent Times", laden with David Ralicke's cinematic horns, is a tribute to finding love and practicing art amidst societal chaos. And the gorgeous "Sweetest Fruit", a salad of synaptic synths, galivanting drums, and twangy electric guitars, is dedicated to queer creators like SOPHIE and political cartoonist Daniel Sotomayor who passed away far too young. Clark has spoken about how the act of screaming is a sign that you're alive. As such, All Born Screaming shows a newfound appreciation for her earthbound world.

Live, expect to hear much of All Born Screaming, plus standouts from St. Vincent's previous five or so records.

SPRINTS

Sunday

SPRINTS, 1:20 PM, Cabaret Metro Stage

They don't even have to begin their set with "Ticking", and SPRINTS are still guaranteed to keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. Yes, that song's build up of guitar, snare, and chanted vocals exemplifies the apex of the Dublin quartet's live intensity, but any of the hard-charging tunes on Letter to Self (City Slang), their terrific debut album, could introduce you to their urgent world. With SPRINTS, lead vocalist Karla Chubb sings about self-acceptance and love in the face of a world that stigmatizes depression and discriminates against queer folks, and she's got the might of Colm O'Reilly’s lead guitar, Sam McCann's groovy bass, and Jack Callan’s meaty drums to back her up. SPRINTS play early, and they might not play to a packed crowd, but everyone will leave a fan.

Tierra Whack, 5:00 PM, Rise Stage

Tierra Whack has been one of the most exciting figures in hip hop for the past half-decade. Her first major statement, her debut mixtape Whack World, consisted of 15 minute-long, world-building vignettes, each accompanied by a video. Her first three EPs introduced her as someone unafraid to blur genre lines, questioning the usefulness of such divisive tags to begin with. (They were appropriately titled Rap?, Pop?, and R&B?) Earlier this year, Whack finally released her debut studio album World Wide Whack (Interscope), and it's a proper emotionally complex follow-up to the identity struggles of Whack World. Sure, she flexes her rapping prowess and overall aura. "I make a dollar every time that my heart beats," Whack declares on "MS BEHAVE"; on "CHANEL PIT", she claims that--yes--at her concerts, the "mosh pit smell like Chanel." Much of World Wide Whack, though, is melancholy, delving into her anxiety and struggles with friendships and relationships. The nervous R&B of "BURNING BRAINS" is the sound of sensory overload, complete with pitch-shifted, molasses sweet, indecipherable backing vocals. On "IMAGINARY FRIENDS", built around a surf rock guitar line and minimal drums, she sings, heartbreakingly, " My last best friend, said he wish he didn't know me / His name was Oscar and he really hurt my feelings / When I grow up I want to hang from a ceilin'."

Whack often spits around understated, minimal production, and she references suicidal thoughts numerous times throughout World Wide Whack. But the album is not defeatist; instead, it's a statement of triumph despite her troubles. On "27 CLUB", talking through her ideations, Whack almost acts like her own guardian angel, showing herself what life would be like if she were gone. And the most joyous song on the record is "SHOWER SONG", a slice of Southern-fried synth funk about the joys of--you guessed it--singing in the shower. She adopts a nasal vocal style as if to emphasize her carefree attitude towards how she sounds, a moment where the ultimate curator is instead finding strength in her vulnerability.

It does take a good curator to put together an unforgettable live hip hop set, and Whack's likely to cull from her instant classic mixtape and new record at Riot Fest. Whether her mosh pit will smell like Chanel? To be determined.

molly hughes, older twin sister to jack, glared at trevor as soon as he walked in and slammed the front door. trevor did not acknowledge her after the loss that evening between them and dallas stars. she crossed her arms as she leaned against the kitchen counter, watching as he walked right past her and to their bedroom. she sighed, cleaning up the rest of the kitchen after baking some cookies and heard trevor walk back in. he was going on and on about a harmless habit she did, "how many times do i have to fucking tell you about this shit? huh?! jesus fucking christ." he screamed at the girl. she froze in her spot, as trevor grabbed his keys from the counter and slammed the front door again. her hands quickly covered her mouth, as she let out a sob. she'd never been yelled at like that before, in her entire life. she'd made sure she was always in peoples good graces and always put the needs of others before her own needs and wants. she felt betrayed and felt as if her whole being had been stripped.

she quickly made her way over to the bedroom and grabbed a bag, throwing clothes and a bag of toiletries in there. she had one place she wanted to be and one place only.

molly pulled up to the townhouse alex had gotten in santa monica, and she saw alex sitting on the front step waiting for her. he stood up as she turned off the car, meeting her to grab her bag and give her a hug. he rubbed her back softly, as she cried into his shoulder. alex looked to molly as a sister and was beyond pissed at trevor, and was ready to tear him a new one if one of her brothers hadn't already gotten to him yet. alex took the bag from the back seat and let her walk inside first. "im-im sorry for just barging in like this, al. i didn't know where else to go." she said sighing as she made her way to the kitchen. "don't mention it molls, you're family. im always gonna be here for you." he said smiling and pulling her in for another hug. he kissed the top of her head, as she calmed down a bit more. "did you tell your brothers?" he asked softly and he felt her shake her head. "nah...you know one of them would be flying out here even if they have practice or a game tomorrow.." she said giggling just a bit. alex knew that to be true. "well good thing i dont have work tomorrow so lets make some pizza and watch the office?" he grinned, pulling back and heading to the freezer. "frozen pizza session? dont have to ask me twice." she hummed preheating the over and taking out two pans. the two worked in unision, opening the pizzas and placing them on the cooking sheets to go in. "do you have any seltzers?" she quesitoned opening the fridge and saw her favorite brand, "oh would you lookey here." she grinned taking it out and opening it. "its like you knew i was coming." she hummed chugging just a bit. "well if i didnt have it, we all know youd chop my head off." and she saluted him with a knowing smile.

the two spent the night watching the office and finished off both pizzas and molly with a few seltzers. the two passed out on the couch for what seemed like hours before molly awoke to her phone ringing with her brothers contact popping up. "hello?" she mumbled, rubbing her eyes and seeing the sun begin to rise. "oh thank god you're ok!" jack said rubbing his tired eyes and molly heard luke sigh in the background. she looked over at alex who was sound asleep and she headed over towards the first floor powder room. she turned on the light, chuckling to herself as she saw just a tiny bit of tomato sauce on her chin. "wanna tell me why you turned off your 360 location missy?" jack demanded and molly rolled her eyes. "you have us worried sick - not to mention mom and dad calling us at 2 am asking if we had heard anything and then you've got trevor als-" she cut him off, "oh he was worried as to where i was? im sure he could give two shits jack." she said pinching the bridge of her nose and sitting down on the covered toilet. "whats that supposed to mean?" he asked taken back a bit, "maybe you should call your so called bestie back and asked what he said to me last night and see if you can put the pieces together as to why i turned my location off and left the house." she spat, and heard jack whispering to luke to call him. "he said something that really hurt me jacky and i-i had to leave. im with alex, im ok. i proimse, im just very upset with trev." she said softly, her lip quivering. "oh lovey, im sorry. what did he say? just so i know what to scream at him." he added the last part, causing her to giggle just a bit. "um-- its stupid." she hummed, trying to downplay the situation. "lovey it cant be that stupid if it made you turn off your location so nobody could find you and it cant be that stupid if it made you go stay with alex. just tell us molls." luke said butting in and molly sighed.

"i just have a weird habit and i knew trevor was in a bad mood and i did it anyways and so its my fault that he blew up at me. its my fault he screamed at me." she said feeling a few tears fall out. "he yelled at you?" jack said in disbelief. trevor didn't have a bad bone in his body, when it came to molly. he looked at her as if she hung the stars and the moon, and never had any inkling to hurt her. "that son of a bitch." jack breathed as he took lukes phone from him and marched into his bedroom. "there is no reason why he should have yelled at you loves. none. i don't care if he was angry or upset at the game, he shouldn't have screamed at you. don't make yourself feel as if it was your fault. we all have our habits, and knowing you its a dumb one and one that did not warrant his outburst." luke said trying to comfort his sister. molly nodded, "thanks lukey. its just, nobodys ever yelled at me before like that." she whispered and luke's heart broke. he knew how sensitive she was and how hard she worked to make sure nobody ever got upset with her. "damn he's really going in on trev right now." luke said hearing the shouting coming from jack's room. "oh lovely, well im gonna go back to sleep. its 5 am luke, yall are nuts for calling me." she giggled and luke chuckled. "goodnight lovey, sleep tight." and she thanked him.

it was around 11 am when alex and molly heard a knock on the front door, and mollys eyebrows crinkled. she sipped her coffee, before digging back into her sandwich while alex went to go see who it was. "seriously?" she heard alex's lack luster enthusiasm, "i know shes here. i want to see her." she heard trevors familiar and ever recognizable voice. "listen man, i dont really feel like yelling at you right now so please just leave." alex said and trevor wouldn't budge. "the three of them have already screamed at me and picked me apart for the better part of the morning. please, i dont need anyone else to add to that." trevor said with a hint of exhaustion in his voice. molly sighed, walking towards the front door and stood next to alex, "its fine al." and alex nodded and eyed trevor before he walked back into the kitchen. "outside. now." she said pulling the door shut behind her. "what the fuck do you want trevor?" she demanded, crossing her arms over her chest. she saw his under eyes darker and exhaustion in his eyes, and the look of pure regret and guilt written across his features. "im so sorry molls, i really am. there is no excuse for what i said or did and especially me leaving. i shouldn't have left and i shouldn't have said what i said. you know that i didn't mean it lovey, please. tell me what i can do to get your forgiveness?" he asked pulling her in close by the hips. "first off, you can take your hands off of me." she said pulling them off of her, "and secondly, you can leave. im not ready to speak to you yet. you hurt me trev, that one hurt. especially since you know its the most harmless habit of mine." she said setting her boundary.

trevor knew it would be hard to get her forgiveness, but he was also happy that she was setting boundaries because he knew that her being her, it was hard to do. even though it hurt him, he understood why she was. "nobody has ever yelled at me like that before. and i will not allow it to become a norm in it either." she said taking a step back. "so please, just go. ill talk to you when im ready." she said and trevor nodded softly, a lump forming in his throat. "alright lovey." he said taking a step in front of her, and placing a soft kiss on her temple. "ill be at home waiting." he said looking into her green eyes, and she nodded watching him leave.

it was two days later and alex was off for a small road trip, so as molly hugged alex goodbye she decided she did not want to be alone and lonely in the house. she cursed herself at 'caving' quicker than she liked but trevor was also her person, she missed him. over the past 48 hours she thought about the situation, thought about what she wanted to say to him and she ran it over with alex who supported her wholeheartedly. she drove down from santa monica to newport, and savored the hour and a half driving down the coast with some alred's coffee. she pulled up around 2:30 in the afternoon and saw trevor outside with jamie, pulling their surfboards off of trevors car. good, molly thought. hopefully a surfing session did some good and helped him refocus. jamie smiled widely as trevor walked passed him, once he saw molly's car pull in front of the townhouse. trevor turned around to shut his car door and saw molly's car parked, and quickly made his way over towards it. "molls?" he called out and molly rounded the back of the car, coming face to face with the hockey player. shes smiled sweetly and then waved towards jamie, who just like trevor still had their wetsuits on. "ill be inside, im gonna go get settled." she said softly to trevor as she walked passed. "call me later if you wanna get dinner." jamie said to trevor and trevor nodded and jamie left. the hockey player quickly jogged inside, looking for molly.

she stood in the doorway of their bedroom, cream hydrangeas in a crystal vase sat tall on her bedside table. a new joan malone candle stood in front of it, and saw a small card with them as well. she smiled softly, walking over towards it setting her bag on the bed. she opened it, and sat down on the bed. the letter contained everything that trevor could never get out on his own, the letter explained everything that he wanted to say but knew he'd be too flustered to say it correctly and in the way he envisioned. trevor paused at the door and saw that she was reading the letter he had written once he'd gotten back from santa monica. molly's lip quivered, and she looked up towards trevor. he quickly found himself kneeling in front of her, grabbing hands that reached out for him. "youre not losing me trev, i promise you that. i love you way too much trev, youre pretty much stuck with me for life." she hummed, giggling a bit. he smiled widely pulling her in for a kiss. his hands softly grasped her cheeks, pulling her closer. after a few seconds, they pulled apart before going in for more.

Summary: Back at Hogwarts you might not be able to escape Cormac. While Fred tries to cover up his feelings for you amongst friends he must interfere when Cormac corners you. [part 1 & part 2]

Taking a deep breath you felt at home again. Home. Hogwarts welcoming you. Taking in the castle in all it’s glory. It’s walls harboring all your memories. The laughs you had laughed and the tears you had cried. A hand on your back made you turn your head. Hermione passing you with a gentle nod to follow her. Ginny right behind her, when passing you she turned round facing you with a big smile.

Ron walking by on your left side followed by Harry. Harry gave you a brief nudge for standing still. Something about seeing the castle again made you sentimental. George stretched his arms while passing you from the long train ride. Once more a touch on your back made you turn your head with a few blinks.

Fred coming in sight with a smile. – “Shall we?” – he asked. Instantly you started to smile back at him. – “Yes.” – you whispered getting in motion. More groups of students gathered when you all went in the same direction. Taking the fields way. Quickly you all were inside at the common room.

Hermione plopped down on her bed with a deep sigh. You were knelt down sorting some clothing in your trunk when you noticed Ginny nearing. She grabbed the pole on your bed, letting herself sway on her feet with a dramatic turn to you. – “Are you excited to be back Y/n.” – she asked. Something about the tone in her voice hinted she had a hidden agenda. – “Why’d you ask?” – you responded folding the sweater Molly had knitted neatly aside.

“Nothing for.” – she responded with a pitch in her voice. – “I’m sure a certain McLaggan boy would be pleased to see you again.” – the mention of his name made your eyes widen. You had completely forgotten about him and the letter he had send you. The letter you had never answered because it got burned.

Then you forgot about it, caught off guard by Fred being suddenly extra nice to you. Hermione gasped loud remembering it as well. You got up, turning towards them, eyes wide in shock. Hermione stared in shock back at you. – “How did we forget.” – she spoke removing her hand from before her mouth. – “I didn’t.” – Ginny answered with a chuckle.

“I never wrote back.” – you said out loud as Ginny sat herself down on your bed. Crookshanks hopping on the bed with her. – “Perhaps it is for the best. He is a bloated toad anyways.” – Ginny went on stroking Crookshanks tail. Hermione slapped Ginny against her arm. – “How can you say that!” – she called out. Ginny took a breath turning more towards her. – “He’s all smug.” – she reminded her.

“Yes, but he also is interested in Y/n. He is the first one to proclaim his interests in her so loudly. Shouldn’t we take this in consideration?” – she answered. Ginny crossed her arms. – “Are you saying Y/n should settle for the first worst thing just because he is the only one interested.” – she bit back snappy.

“Hey!” – you called out as they were speaking over your head. Both turned their heads at you. – “Sorry.” – Hermione immediately apologized. – “I’m just warning you.” – Ginny responded making you briefly roll your eyes at them.

“It’s not like you have a lot of interested boys.” – she finished. – “Maybe he isn’t the only one.” – you called out catching her off guard. – “Truly?” – she gasped jumping up. You pulled your shoulder up, keeping your mouth shut. – “Y/n.” – Ginny said when you remained silent returning to your duties. – “Are you seriously not going to tell us anything.” – Ginny said eager to know.

You pulled your shoulder up again without a word. Ginny groaned in agony, grabbing you by the shoulders. – “Tell me!” – she said staring desperately at you. She fluttered confused when you started laughing. – “I need to know…” – she whined out hoping you’d show pity with her. Hermione could only stare at you, trying to figure out who. – “Who!” – Ginny pushed you back as you fell on your back, laughing loud. – “Who tell meeeee!” – she begged whiny wanting to know it so desperately.

Hermione narrowed her eyes slightly on you. – “Help me Hermione. I need the answer!” – Ginny cried out for help. Hermione came joining in tickling you to get an answer out of you. No matter how hard you laughed, you didn’t slip a secret. Keeping Fred’s name deep in your heart, but never outed.

“What is she sour for?” – George asked when coming to join the table in the great hall with Fred. – “Y/n wouldn’t tell us who the second guy is that fancies her.” – Hermione informed them as Fred looked intrigued at you. You gave no attention to his glance. – “Second guy?” – George spoke glancing over his shoulder to Fred. Fred pulled his shoulders up as if not knowing who he was talking about.

“Look at you miss popular amongst the boys.” – George teased with a nudge in your side. Fred chuckled nervously catching his brother’s gaze. – “I’m hardly popular.” – you told George with a faked smile. George threw his arm over your shoulder. – “Two seems like a popular number. Soon number three and four will join.” – He acted out, counting it with his fingers.

Fred cleared his throat. – “I honestly think not.” – he spoke making George quirk his brow up. – “How would you know?” – Hermione asked noticing Ginny was still in her sour behavior. Arms crossed and a bothered expression on her face. – “A hunch.” – Fred answered making you suppress a smile.

George turned his head, checking twice if he saw it right. – “Speak of the toad.”- he spoke motioning with his head in the direction. You leaned back looking behind George to the doors. Everyone else looking as well. Hermione getting a bit to look over Fred. From afar you caught Cormac standing with some of his friends. The second he noticed you, he waved with a big smile at you. It made you feel embarrassed hiding yourself behind George. – “Looks like he’s still head over heels for you Y/n.” – Hermione spoke lowering herself.

“Even though you ignored him all summer long.” – Hermione said as you shushed her. George intrigued by the sudden new news. He hummed curious. – “You’ve been ignoring him all summer. What did he send you letters or what?” – he joked out. Seeing the expression on your face and Hermione’s he stopped laughing.

“Are you serious? Did he send you a letter?” – George asked. You slowly nodded your head. – “The toad!” – George cursed, clenching his hand. You glanced across the table over to Fred. Wanting to know what he thought about all of this. His expression was neutral but partly clenched. You could see the anger he was trying to hide.

George puffed in Cormac’s direction, daring him to even try and come near. – “Don’t tell my brother.” – you said not wanting Harry to be involved in this as well. – “He’ll murder him on the spot.” – you added nervously. – “Now that is something I like to see.” – Fred answered to your surprise. – “A bit of a cruciato torture on him.” – George filled in with a funny expression. – “You boys are being ridiculous.” – Hermione answered slapping Ginny against her arm to stop moping.

Fred and George both pulled their shoulders up in response. – “Well whatever you decided to do, just leave Harry out of it.” – you reminded them getting up. Fred got up as well as it made you stare half confused at him. Fred cleared his throat sitting himself back down. George snorted loud at his brother’s silly behavior as Hermione quirked her brow up.

Hermione slowly got up to follow you. The Weasley staying behind as the two of you needed to go to class. Hermione grabbed you by the elbow, pulling you out of the way from Cormac. Who seemed very eager to come over now it only the two of you. Hermione and you caught up with Ron and Harry on your way to class.

After class you went your own way. Hermione joining Ron and Harry for a trip to Hagrid’s. You rounded a few corners, walking in the open corridors around the courtyard. – “Potter!” – you heard loud behind you. It made you slow down. – “Potter! Y/n!” – slowly turning around you saw Cormac run over to you. Your eyes widened as there was no one around from your friends to help you out. He came to a stop by you, catching his breath.

“How… how was your summer…” – he asked making you smile nervously at him. – “It… it was okay… how… how was yours?” – you asked in return to be polite. – “I’ve send you a letter.” – he said bluntly catching you off guard. – “You… you did?” – you answered trying not to sound too suspicious. He hummed loud. – “Didn’t you get it?” – he wanted to know. You slowly shook your head trying not to show any signs of your lying.

“No… no I didn’t get anything.” – you told him untruthfully. – “Strange…” – he scratched the back of his head. – “Anyways I’m really glad to be back at Hogwarts. We should head to Hogsmeade once. I’ll buy you a butterbeer.” – he said leaning a bit closer to you. – “By the way this is me asking you out.” – he added a bit cocky making you gulp shyly.

“So what do you say Y/n? Shall we call it a date?” – he went on getting all smug. – “I’m busy.” – you flopped out without thinking. Cormac furrowed his brows. – “Come on I’m sure you can find some time for me.” – he pressured on making you feel uncomfortable to say no to him any further. – “I’ve been thinking all summer about you. Couldn’t get you out of my head Potter.” – he teased reaching his hand out to you. Letting his fingers brush against your cheek as it startled you.

“McLaggan!”  - you suddenly heard making you gasp loud. Cormac groaned irritated at the sight of Fred. Fred came standing by your side, giving him a little shove to keep his distance from you. – “What do you want.” – he asked rudely. Cormac chuckled cocky. – “It’s between Y/n and me, Weasel.” – he replied. – “Think about my offer Y/n.” – he winked your way making Fred step in between. – “She won’t.” -  he called out. – “So stop bothering her!” – he made clear. Cormac scoffed.

“You’re not her superior, so why don’t you stop bossing her around.” – Cormac answered with a sneer. Fred took a step back, grabbing your shoulder and pressing you hard against his side. – “No, I’m her boyfriend.” – he casually said making you look startled at him. Expression full of surprise and shock. Cormac started to laugh. – “No you aren’t.” – he said.

“Oh yes I am!” – Fred kept on.  He turned his head looking down at you. With his thumb his turned your head closer to him, inching it closer to him as he leaned down. Your eyes widened feeling a burn on your cheeks. Flustered and flushed with heat as he drew his lips nearer to you. His lips inches away from yours. – “Alright I get it!” – Cormac called out. Fred paused curling up a smile.

He turned his head looking all smug at Cormac. He puffed loud, stuffing his hands in his pockets, storming off. – “Good riddance.” – Fred said letting go of your chin. You stood frozen; eyes wide as the heat had risen to your entire face. This close, this close was Fred to kissing you without a warning. You weren’t even sure if he was bluffing or was willing to actually kiss you to proof a point. – “Y/n.” – he said noticing the frozen state you were in.

“Y/n?” – he waved his hand in front of you. You slowly blinked. Before he could say more, you turned around, walking off with your hands pressed against your cheeks to cool off. Somehow it felt like you hadn’t seen the last of Cormac even with Fred’s little charade. Yet why was your heart thumping so loudly against your chest. Was this Fred’s doing?

The Heartbreak Prince (Alex Keller x f!reader)

Note: Okay, Chad Michael Collins is 44, so if we say Alex is 35-45, and you read this like the reader is in her early 20s, there might be a small reference to what you might consider grooming if you squint. In my head, Alex is 35 and the reader is around 30, but who am I to tell you how old she is?

Be a good girl for me.

Alex always took it on himself to keep you in line when you were ready to do something stupid or reckless. He had been like that since you were a kid, although the way he warned you changed drastically as you grew older.

Your brother didn't notice, or rather didn't want to notice, but his best friend was always extremely flirty with you. He touched your body every chance he got, placed soft kisses on your head, or simply gave you a ride home after a night out and spent the whole trip trying to make you smile and laugh.

Tonight he said these words when an ex of his showed up in the bar where you were drinking with your friends. You had never understood what he liked about her, the stereotypical dumb blonde who always tried to sound smart, but usually ended up saying something stupid. Alex deserved better, you were sure of that, and you hoped he knew it too.

“I always see your friends here, but you're never with them,” she complained with a pout she probably expected to look cute on her.

It wasn't cute. At all. And from the look on Alex’s face, you could tell he thought the same. His blue eyes were focused on the woman in front of him, and you could see his jaw tighten as he considered what to say. Their relationship got a nasty end, with a certain incident that divided your little group.

He traveled a lot because of his job–whatever it truly was, he never told you–but that relationship ended because she kissed some random guy at a party. Molly said it was an accident, then the story changed and she tried to turn herself into the victim by saying she felt neglected.

“What can I do for you?” Alex asked her eventually, his voice perfectly neutral as if he was talking to a stranger.

You didn't look at them, instead you focused on the screen of your phone and only listened to the conversation. That was more than enough for you, the least you wanted was witnessing a car crash. Because you knew the girl would throw a fit, either blaming Alex again or begging him to take her back.

She didn't respond right away and you heard a gasp leave her lips. Normally you would've assumed she was thinking about what to say, but knowing her, you quickly dismissed the idea. As if. Biting the inside of your cheek to keep a smile from appearing on your face, you opened a messaging app and began to send Alex some memes.

His phone beeped in front of him and he took a quick look at the screen. Out of the corner of your eye you watched as he turned it upside down and placed it on the table with a smirk. Then you felt his foot bump into your leg, and soon he spread his legs wide enough to be able to press his thigh to yours.

“What are you doing?” you wrote him as if he would answer now.

But to your surprise he picked up his phone and typed a short response. “Watch this.”

So you did as you were told and turned your head to face him. The corner of Alex's mouth turned upwards before he reached out to take your hand, long fingers lacing with yours as if this had been a common occurrence. Your breath caught in your throat which didn't seem to bother him. In fact, this only made him more determined to make it look like you were dating.

“Are you joking?” Molly asked hysterically, causing your friends to grab their drinks and walk away. “I always hated the way this snake tried to get your attention, even when we were dating.”

Alex rolled his eyes at this. “I don't know what gave you the idea, it was the other way around,” he told her cheekily, then leaned over to place a kiss on your head.

And you were sitting there, being dragged into a fight you didn't want to be a part of. While you tried to pay attention to anything but that conversation, the gears in your brain began to turn. The other way around? You had always assumed it was meaningless flirting from his part. But maybe he was only saying this to annoy Molly.

“I love it when you're such a good girl for me,” he whispered in your ear to bring you back to reality, and his lips touched your skin to make your brain short-circuit.

Only now that you looked up did you notice that Molly had left without a word, leaving you there alone. “Alex, what the hell?” you demanded as you moved a little away from him.

“What?” he asked innocently as he took a sip of his beer. You punched his upper arm with an angry look on your face. “Come on, you can't say this wasn't a long time coming.”

“Nothing happened.”

Alex let out a laugh before he put a finger under your chin to make you look at him. “Which is a shame.”

Before you could say anything, he leaned forward to kiss you, his lips gently moving in perfect sync with yours. Damn it, you didn't even realize you kissed him back. But it felt good, so good that you didn't want it to end. Maybe he was right. Maybe this really was a long time coming.

Nightmares

A/n Reader has a nightmare about a past trauma event and her girlfriends are there to help her I’m going to use one of my OCs for this as it’s easier.

It was the early hours of the morning and Alex and Casey where fast asleep however Molly was trapped in a nightmare to no end.

Alex POV

As I was sleeping I felt something hitting me and crying then it suddenly hit me Molly or Casey was having a bad dream or something I woke up to see Molly tossing and turning and punching and kicking I’m a light sleeper however Casey is a heavy sleeper and hard to wake up,

“Molly dear can you wake up it’s alright you’re having a bad dream come on sweetheart,” I said as I was trying to wake her to no luck she must be so scared suddenly she screamed loudly and kicked Casey back which cause her to wake up.

“The hell” she said “Casey Molly is having a nightmare and I can’t wake her she going to hurt herself if we don’t do something.” I said worried.

“Oh no” she said “Molly my love you need to wake up it’s ok you’re safe you’re with us baby come on” she tried. Scared she was going to hurt herself I climbed on top of her and gently but firmly holding her hands down at her sides and sat on her legs so she was In place as Casey was trying to wake her it’s hard as she fighting against it, after what felt like for ever she finally opened her eyes and began to cry I got off her and pulled her into a hug and rocked her as Casey rubbed her back.

“You’re ok honey I’m here and so is Casey.” I said gently and Casey said “you’re safe my love it’s ok you’re ok”. She said once Molly was calm we relaxed a little

“What to tell us what happened my love?” Asked Alex as molly clung to Casey and said nothing “it’s ok sweetie me and Alex are here and we not leaving” said Casey once molly had settled down Casey helped lay her down and Alex cuddled her as Casey went to go get some water. As Casey came back she saw a sleeping molly and Alex “she calmed down and said she was sleepy so I told it’s ok try and sleep and we be right here, I also asked and found it the the nightmare was about her attack and that her case fell through and that we weren’t there to help”. Alex said as she reached to remove her glasses.

“Aww bless her Casey said climbing back into bed well as we told she safe and ok now and we will be protect her and love her.” Casey said quietly as they watch the sleeping girl and after a while Casey and Alex laid down to with there girl cuddle between them and they both drift off to sleep.

As Hana strolled onto the grounds of Atlas Academy, she completely dismissed the looks of the students around her wondering about the mysterious boy following close behind her. She despised attention especially when it was on her. She noticed a blonde girl taking a picture and a purple-haired girl passing out flyers as she looked around. She rolled her eyes and cranked up the volume on her phone when she saw brunette with a group of girls whispering and pointing at her

She couldn't care less if hearing would be damaged from how loud she's blasting the music right now.It was distracting her from the embarrassment she was feeling. 'I knew transferring here was a mistake.' Almost a year after Amy Minoru's death, she was adopted by the Minoru's to their home because they felt guilty for what Jonah did to her adoptive brothers. She was forced to evacuate from her home when it mysteriously collapsed but she had no recollection of what happened. It only comes to her in bits and pieces which makes her wonder if it is real or not. Nico, Amy's younger sister, kept her distance from Hana. She could understand her because her parents' adoption of the girl seemed to be a replacement for Amy. She wasn't enrolled at Atlas Academy; thus she didn't know any of Nico's former friends. Until now of course.

Robert proposed that she be transferred to Atlas Academy so that both she and Nico might form a bond and grow closer, as the two are sisters after all. Nico was a year older than her, which meant she is responsible for anything that happened to Hana even though she was perfectly capable of taking care of herself . She closed her eyes shut to avoid everyone around and clutched the handle of her backpack while a lump formed in her throat. 'Get it together, . You can do this.' Her thoughts were suddenly interrupted when she crashed into someone so hard she tumbled to the ground. She dropped her backpack and her headset were detached from her phone. She groaned in pain from the sudden impact and opened her eyes to see a tall, dark-skinned young man with his eyes wide open in shock. "Shit." He gasped before assisting you up. "I am really sorry."

"It's my fault. I should be the one saying sorry." She mumbled as she allowed him to help her up. She started collecting her things while the boy behind her grabbed her phone and avoided eye contact with the teenager who started at Hana. "Hey, you're that new kid right? she heard him ask

"I'm Alex." She heard him introduce himself as she stood up and wiped the dust off her clothes. She stared at him for a moment and noticed his smile didn't reach his eyes. 'He looks upset.' She gave him a small smile. "Nice to meet you, Alex." She gave him a small smile before walking away and grabbing her phone from Seojun who was ordered to watch over her by the Minoru's, she connected her headset once again to her phone. Alex scratched the back of his head as he glanced at her and the curly-haired boy behind her. "I didn't even get your name." He whispered before shaking his head and walking away.

She turned to a corner and completely halted before she could even bump into another person. The young girl gasped in surprise. "Oh, didn't see you there." The girl chuckled nervously before wincing in pain and clutching her abdomen. She tilted her head as she recognized who was talking to her. "Molly?"

Molly blinked twice before widening her eyes. "Hana!” She immediately engulfed her in a warm hug, and the brunette returned the gesture. "You're here!"

Molly Hernandez was her only best friend once she moved to Los Angeles because the two shared some common interests and similarities in life. Molly understood what it was like to be adopted and orphaned. Despite being older than Molly, it doesn't stop Hana from being friends with her.

"Are you okay?” She asked worriedly as she cupped her cheeks firmly. "You look like you're in pain. I can get you something if you like—"

"No, no, it's fine," Molly reassured. "I think I can handle it. I have a tryout session later, so..."

She  gave her a look for a moment before understanding what was happening. "You're on your period?"

Molly weakly nodded and whimpered. "Why does it have to happen now?”

She sighed. "Maybe you can go to the nurse's office to give you some hot compression." She looked down at her phone to see the time. "Look, I gotta go I'll see you later, okay?"

Molly watched as she walked away with a boy she's seen once or twice. "Hey! Do you even have someone to show you around the Academy yet?"

Nico was meant to be there, but she spotted her reading a Wiccan-related notebook and chose not to disturb her. Molly couldn't give her a tour because she's busy and has menstrual cramps. When she got to the second floor, she saw the same boy from before, staring longingly at her adoptive older sister.

Her eyebrows slightly raised in surprise. 'Huh...' she shrugged it off and opened the door to her classroom, completely missing a glance from Alex.

She just so happened to be in the same class as Nico and her former friends, and she could feel the awkward tension around them. She was busy chewing her bottom lip and started doodling some people from a cartoon she watched this morning. She’d always found comfort in cartoons and had grown to enjoy them. She knew someone had introduced them to her, which was why she like watching old cartoons, but she didn't know who.

"My point is that the system needs to be dismantled, which is why I'm starting a new club on campus, undermining the patriarchy." As the teenage girl, whose name's Gert Yorkes, continued talking about her plans for a club she wanted to create, she froze when she spotted her drawing was now different from what she had in mind. "What the..." she whispered.

"Taehyun get her out of here!”

Screams were heard from every direction, and people were lying on the ground or running out of the building.

"We'll be alright, okay?"

Two boys were seen looking up at something, one had hair at the shoulder and looked younger than the boy covering him while the other had blood coming from his head a frightened expression frozen on his face

“I'm sorry for your loss...”

"I'm scared..."

She snapped out from her thoughts when she noticed the class had their eyes on her. She didn't notice she was sitting beside Alex, so she jumped when she felt his fingers tapping her arm. "Hey, are you okay?" He asked worriedly. "Your nose is...”

She wiped her nose and looked down at her hand and found blood smeared on the back of her hand. "Yeah..."

People started fixing their things, and since Alex was convinced she was okay, he walked away to approach his former friend, Chase Stein. He noticed him sketching on his tablet. "Woah, are those the, uh, God, what did you call them? Handblasters?" He asked nervously to his old friend, who was still not breaking his attention on his tablet. "It's so cool you're still working on it."

She glanced at the two boys before looking at her hand again to see the dried blood on her palm. She sighed heavily and took out a tissue to wipe her hand.

"Handblasters?" Chase lightly scoffed with a smile while Alex crossed his arms and listened intently. "No, these would be bionic prosthetics using myoelectric sensors. I'm calling them Fist—"

Chase stopped his sentence and looked to his side to see Alex, who fixed his glasses up. Chase slightly moved away. "Wait, why am I even talking to you?"

"Actually, I was talking to you." Alex corrected before clearing his throat. "I was thinking that maybe you might want to get together tonight, just all of us like we used to."

Hana glanced at Nico, who was listening quietly to Chase and Alex. "Seriously, Wilder?" Chase questioned. "You think I'll come over to hang out like we're still friends?"

"Just keep your voice down."

"Wait, you're joking." She spotted Gert approaching the two boys. "He's joking, right?"

"That is what I expected you to say, Gert, which is why I was hoping that if I could get Chase on board first and maybe..."

"Oh, right, because I totally make all my decisions based on what some roided-out jockstrap has to say."

Chase snapped his head to Gert. "Hey! I've got opinions."

"Right, about what flavored protein powder to use, right?" Gert questioned. "And we really admire you for it."

Alex chuckled nervously. "Classic Gert, you see?" Hana adjusted on her seat as she placed her chin on the palm of her hand, continuing to eavesdrop on their conversation. Seojun quietly chuckled at her actions and opened his phone texting Mrs.Minoru "This kind of delightful banter is why I think we should all get together and hang out at my place tonight."

"You're having people over tonight?" Karolina Dean asked after she overheard what Alex said.

Chase suddenly fixed his posture as he turned his attention to Karolina. "Why, are you interested?"

Karolina shook her head. "Oh, no, I'm sorry, I can't. I have a church thing."

"Or you could just come by after that," Alex suggested. "It doesn't have to interfere with your religion."

'Man, I've missed some drama.' She hid her quiet laugh as she got interested in their small talk.

"Religion, is that what we're calling it now?" Gert asked as she looked up at Alex.

Karolina turned to Gert. "What I believe in is positive and life-affirming, and it doesn't allow me to be cut down by some miserable loser."

She frowned at Karolina's statement while Chase glanced at Alex. "Oh, think she was referring to you, Wilder!" He whispered loudly.

"But you do realize that no institution has been as oppressive to women as organized religion," Gert argued.

"Except my mother runs my church," Karolina argued back. "You call yourself a feminist, Gert, yet no one cuts down other women more than you do."

"Not all of them, no, just the ones who walk around with fake smiles pretending to be happy all the time."

"Okay, guys..." Alex tried to stop the two girls from fighting, but Karolina spoke again. "At least I'm trying. When was the last time you took a shower?"

And to her relief, the bell rang out loud. She began fixing her things as the Gert, and the others continued to talk. Chase glanced at Hana who was messing around on her phone now bored with their argument getting ready to go and furrowed his eyebrows. "Were you listening to us this whole time?"

She froze and looked around to see Nico looking at her. Chase scoffed as he glanced at Nico. "Looks like your little sister is a little eavesdropper, huh?"

Alex's eyes widened, and he looked at Nico before looking back at the brunette. "Wait... what?" Karolina sighed as she walked away from Gert while Nico gathered her things, preparing to leave. Chase turned to Alex. "I thought you were the nerd ? You should know that by now."

Chase left Alex to join his new friends while Alex watched Evangeline leave hurriedly dropping a small white bag and leave the classroom. Gert glanced at Alex. "And you wanted us all to hang out?"

Gert grabbed her bag and left the classroom as Alex shook his head. "Not for me..." Alex sighed. "...for her." He grabbed his stuff and walked out of the class noticing the new kids hurrying out seeming to be arguing.
