Hi! You have no idea how excited I was when the response came!? It definitely made my week! (^w^)

Anyway, this post will be a long character discussion since I will be talking about the Light of Destruction, how it affected its victims, how it will affect Yusei’s personality, and the potential disaster this has depending on the timelines Yusei can travel to.

First off, when the show Yugioh GX talked about the creation of the Universe and the two cosmic entities the Light of Destruction and the Gentle Darkness, in the original Japanese dub the Light of Destruction was more interested in destroying all life in the universe while the English dub its goal was to dominate/control the entire universe and life sources. Meanwhile, the Gentle Darkness battled with the Light of Destruction to allow life to evolve by itself. Based on a possessed Yubel’s action in the later series that would influence the Supreme King’s action in trying to rule over the twelve dimensions, I think the English dub was more accurate in the Light of Destruction’s goal than the Japanese dub. Therefore, I labeled the Light of Destruction as “Chaotic evil” with the desire to control every single living thing, while the Gentle Darkness is a Neutral Good.

The label “ Chaotic Evil” definitely gives us more insight into what type of personality the Light of Destruction has and how it drastically changed the personalities of the possessed victims. The first victim was Aster’s father who must have been a caring father for Aster, but at the same time must have been the type of man who has high ambition for himself due to his job working as a card designer for Industrial Illusions (which in that universe, it’s a big deal that man must have been making millions!) the Light of Destruction saw this as an opportunity to force Phoenix in creating a vessel for it which at first he resisted, until he couldn’t fight it anymore and created Destiny Hero-Plasma, that is considered one of the most powerful cards ever made. The next victim is The D, who was already a criminal down on his luck, he came across the card Destiny Hero-Plasma that held the Light of Destruction looking to possess more people, after coming into contact with the card it turned a petty criminal into a murderer with no regard to human life. His normal personality has him looking like a normal clean man who doesn’t seem like the type that would jump a person on a bus with a knife when he’s possessed, however, he becomes a sadist who doesn’t care about killing people to get what he wants. The third victim was Sartorius who was a fortune teller able to predict the future, he was a nice person who worried about the future and the onset of violence that was increasing in that universe. Once he came into contact with the card possessing the Light of Destruction it twisted his desires of protecting his sister and Aster into doing its bidding. By having him create a cult called the “Society of Light”,  and brainwashing kids in Jaden’s school. Last but not least is Yubel, who was Jaden’s guardian, Yubel's mission was to protect the reincarnation of the Supreme King until he learned how to use his powers to defeat the Light of Destruction, except when it possessed Yubel, they became obsessed with waking the Supreme King by forced, that they went to the extreme of harming his friend, transporting a school of defenseless children to the spirit world where anything could have killed them, and traumatized Jaden giving him PTSD in dueling causing him to resent himself. It shows how the Light of Destruction amplifies personality traits to the extreme Phoenix was a hard-working man and a provider for his son once the Light of Destruction used him, he overworked himself to the brink of death creating a powerful duel card that he no longer had the strength to fight off or defend himself from an attack. The D was originally a morally grey person who was just a theft who didn’t dare to cross the line when he robbed people, this was evident in the few times he broke out of the control of the Light of Destruction when he showed remorse for all the things he has done until he gets possessed again. Sartorius was a man who just wanted to protect the people he cared about, once possessed the Light turned him into a fanatic who thought any evil action he committed was all for the greater good, and Yubel turned from a protector to an antagonist to the person he promised to protect.

Now what does this mean for Yuusei, since the Light of Destruction has the tendency to amplify the emotions and personalities of its victims, since Yuusei has a romantic love for Jaden and wishes to protect him, Yuusei will turn into a full blow Yandere. After all, the extreme spectrum of love is “mania” which is defined as an obsessive and possessive form of love, darker than romantic love, friendship, and familiar bond. I can also see Yuusei becoming a delusional type yandere believing that everything he’s doing is for Jaden’s good when in reality he’s causing the most harm to Jaden. Yuusei’s potential actions will depend on which Jaden he ends up interacting with in whatever timeline he ends up, whether it be with the Jaden from season 1, Jaden who becomes the Supreme King, Jaden from Paradox, or the Jaden when he’s dating Yuusei (these would be fun to write the different scenario since Yuusei would have a different reaction in each of them. Not to mention a scene of Yuusei possessed by the Light vs. regular Yuusei horrified of a future without Jaden in it). Plus, Jaden will also need to be careful of not only Yuusei but the Light of Destruction as well, since the Light of Destruction is not interested in killing its enemy which is another topic to be discussed.

I think you put into words really well + logically the mechanism (and thus terror) of the Light - indeed, it is terrifying because it makes use of something that's already inside each person. Out of all YGO series, GX is (to me) the one that makes the most direct use of the themes & symbolism of Light vs Darkness polarity. 5Ds' is definitely a lot more subtle with this, but that's why it's all the more interesting to imagine what Yusei would have been like to completely lose himself.

When I saw you put "Yusei" and "yandere" together I fist pumped because I'd been thinking that since I finished the series. Yusei is canonically the strongest in the 5Ds' universe. He'd literally beaten "God," so who would be able to stop him once he decides to use that power to make the future turn out the way he wants? (The fact that Z-ONE uses the Timelords deck, as if to show us a glimpse of what Yusei would've been capable of - if not more). I think his intelligence would make him a frightening enemy, rather than his sheer power. Plus, a central pillar of his character, as has been demonstrated again and again, is his determination to take on burdens and "fix" them regardless of the odds stacked against him/whether or not that's even the "right" thing to do. Once he's set in his goal, nothing can stop him. I'd be curious to hear if you have a timeline for how they get together btw?

All of my ideas about Yusei becoming the new "God" are really long, I went digging in my wips for one of them and found out I may have written it down in a notebook (now buried in all the others) instead of my laptop, so ദ്ദി ༎ຶ‿༎ຶ ) But the OC in my pfp and comm sheet (pinned post) is made for that universe! He's a portal/time machine sent back to bring Judai and Yusei to the future, so that they can help defeat its terrible "God." But that God was no other than Yusei himself, who'd somehow done what Godwind couldn't and united Life and Death, Light and Darkness, and gained power over all of time itself. He...doesn't use this power wisely, to say the least, because the entire reason he acquired this power in the first place was to try and "save" Judai.

I also have this other vague, imaginary AMV in my head idea where Yusei seeks the occult Gods' power to resurrect Judai, who comes back without any memory of his death. (Until he finds out). It is inspired by this song, if you fancy a listen:

I think it’d be funny if Dick and Jason, due to wearing bright yellow capes on the job for years, are capable of stealth to a frankly unhinged degree. They barely have to try anymore it’s so second nature. Dick can just completely disappear while in the loudest neon clothes imaginable. Jason is constantly startling people who don’t understand how they missed a guy the size of a fridge standing right there. Bruce is extremely grateful for his unbreakable poker face because they have both startled him by accident and would never ever let him live it down if they knew.
