Crowley S2 Hair Post #2 Redone
(For reference: The Sideburns Scheme)
Crowley, Good Omens 2, Episode 1, The Arrival, meeting with Shax in the street
Sideburns Check
The sideburns are longer than they were at the park.
Initially, the scene starts with Crowley parked in his car, suggesting he had been it for some time. Additionally, the street looks isolated. There are no humans around, even if it otherwise looks like it would be a human space, based on the nearby windows. We don't see him look in the mirror in the car, but we can see it quite early in the scene as available to him, if need be.
Once Crowley gets out of the car, we can only see him from a distance. One could take a decent guess the sideburns are longer and then save a screenshot and zoom in to be sure. Let's do that:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Eventually, Shax shows up, and we get a closer view to confirm the sideburns are longer.
Tumblr media
Though the sideburns are longer than they were at the park, they are not as long as we will later see when he encounters Gabriel.
The left sideburn is not as full in hair than the right. It also appears to be shorter.
...
Brighter Red Streak Check
From the more distant view of the car, I can't tell.
Tumblr media
Once Crowley turns around to address Shax, it can be seen. It is above Crowley's left eye again. I have placed white rectangles around where I see the streak in the image above. I also slightly brightened the part of the image that shows his right sideburn.
...
Hairstyle Changes
Even though I can't keep track of every style and subtle change, here's a comparison shot between the previous scene and this one:
Tumblr media
Crowley has more visibly separated curls pushing inward at the top instead of a dip that pushes slightly outward above his right eye.
His hair looks darker too. That tends to happen when he is near or in his car and isolated. I like to think of that as an effect from him being a demon in his own demon space.
...
Earthly Objects
(For reference: Earthly Objects)
Tumblr media
When discarding the mail, Crowley makes sure the tip of his shoe touches the side of the sidewalk. In fact, right before he throws the mail away, he actually shifts position to make a pocket with the legs themselves.
He uses a pants pocket to get his phone, so I'm on alert to look all the more closely at the details happening on screen.
His tie strands notably extended when he exited and later will enter his car:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As you may recall, I mentioned in the last post these are his Tied Hands. I don't know what they're up to, sadly. I just know to look for these types of things. On exiting the car, the part that stands out to me is when they align specifically with his right hand. For entering the car, it looks like one of the clasps above a tassel hits the car. The clasps are the thumb joints. They tend to rest on the vest most of the time, of course, but when they are up to more than usual, they like to swing around and strike the jacket with a particular interest in a lapel edge for retying or whatever else a given job might require of them. Hitting the car? I never even noticed until drafting this post.
When preparing to answer the phone, I noticed he positioned his shoes perpendicular to each other. That's an interesting choice. He positioned his arm along the side of the car, and it's not going to match the reflection in his phone or the cut after that of him actually being by the car.
Pockets use lighting as clues, and the lighting here wants it known that the Bentley has a reflective surface.
Tumblr media
In fact, I can actually see Crowley's reflection in that surface at times if I look closely enough. Even though I can find Crowley's reflection in the car, I can't find Shax's. The car itself will transform during the story. It's not very obvious that Crowley's plants are in his car, but they are there. From the initial more distant view of the scene as Crowley throws away mail, the sunlight is hitting the upper area to the camera's left.
While Earthly Objects is heavily based on touching, it has common dialogue points for Hello, names, numbers, and questions (I think).
On the zoomed view of the phone, there is at least Shax's name and five visible digits touching the phone. Beyond that, I can't figure out if the numbers of the time help for any points, his visible reflection, or even both since technically the time numbers are in his head in the reflection. The reflection has his shoulder visibly touching the car instead of his left arm aligned by it. The reflected touch is at least on the door panel and window frame—two thresholds, then I'm not sure if it's on the window pane too. Window panes are earthly objects.
On the cut of actually answering the phone, his left arm is spread over the roof, so his posture has changed yet again. The left jacket sleeve is open enough for a black hole that is yet another pocket, so I'm on alert yet again. The window is now slightly open at the top.
We can check his watch to see he made Shax wait or an hour before answering his phone. There are other possible explanations. The phone could be wrong, or the watch could be wrong. He might have left for an hour and come back. It could be a different draft of the story. The game doesn't much care since it's more concerned with touch continuity than clock continuity. The sun doesn't look like it's gone down all the way into night, then up yet. The clothes are similar enough. He's in the same area, touching the same general thing with slight differences.
The index finger touches its reflection when he answers the phone.
Still, since it's a game and I'm playing it with a theory about him managing his space with sideburns, I like to think he made Shax wait for an hour, especially since he's going to kick her out, intentionally or not. The amount of sunlight on the camera's left, for the more distant view, increases by the time he leaves. I don't know enough about sunlight and angles to be sure, but my unsteady guess would be that the amount of sunlight should increase over the span of the hour he made Shax wait.
I'm intrigued by whatever his left hand is up to on the window pane here as he prepares to turn around:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
~Start excerpt with slight edits from main post~
After Crowley answers the phone, he turns around when he would presumably not be touching his car but at least fully intending to touch it, which seems to suffice for the story. Shortly after, he is leaning against the roof again.
By taking this action, he is allowing Shax closer to the space around the car, so that she can talk to him.
For the shots we are allowed to see him from the front, he is touching the roof, door panel, and sometimes we see the window pane is included the lean as well.
Before he asks, "Is that all?", he stops touching those parts of the car entirely and cannot be seen touching any other part.
Shax disappears from the scene.
By removing the touch from the car, the home base kicked her out. The forced exit seems unintentional.
~End excerpt with slight edits from main post~
...
Story Commentary
Again looking to this timeline rundown post, this scene is quite possibly out of order.
The phone and watch time indicate a morning, given the amount of sunlight. The bookshop clock from earlier scenes indicated an afternoon.
The scene doesn't look as easily out of order as the last one because the presented story showed us Gabriel is already on Earth and even in the bookshop. He is brought up within the conversation between Crowley and Shax. That suits a flow of a story being told.
I'm not paying as close attention to the clock hands because such things are just plain too difficult to me, so I'm very grateful to the person who made that post.
I'm intrigued at the extra breeze given with Shax's arrival. While no humans or animals are visibly around, plants are. The plants are shown to be affected by the breeze. The lacking humans and animals are part of my theory that this area is a special supernatural zone that Crowley himself manages.
This scene is one of the few times I can catch the red in Crowley's jacket that's part of its collar on the back.
Tumblr media
During the dialogue, Crowley says, "Trust me."
Shax replies, "Righto."
Back in season 1, Ligur made a comment about a "funny old world" it would be if demons went around trusting each other. This part is mentioned in the actual Good Omens book, but as a reflected thought instead of stated dialogue.
Still, this part here in GO2 has a "funny old world" bit happening with Shax easily agreeing to just plain trust Crowley, at least for this bit of information. She's rather cute and almost innocent here compared to how antagonistic she gets later.
When first trying to figure out how the sideburns worked, this scene was one of the biggest challenges for me because of the chronology. The sideburns look short in the park and long here with a significant difference being Gabriel is on Earth and in the bookshop now.
But it doesn't add up with other things later when it becomes more evident they respond to character presence within a given space when Crowley is actually in that space. Shax was in the park. Shax is in the street. They changed around the same character with a difference in that presented chronology of the distant arrival of another character.
That's how it seems at first.
However, another difference was the space itself. The park is not Crowley's home. The car is. The car is one of the most important pieces of the puzzle because it is a home that can move. It can leave a static space and switch from being an occupied home to being a car. Again, I have no explanation of what those Tied Hands were up to, but one of the joints thought it worth the effort of touching the car before Crowley re-entered his home, just this once. Crowley didn't drive away by the end of the scene, but we'll see him driving soon enough.
Attending to mail is part of maintaining one's home, so that could be yet another factor to Crowley managing his own space while having longer sideburns.
The mail itself might be important due to it being more obvious in the framing when the camera pans up toward the end of the scene. I don't have any guesses I would be comfortable with making on what important mail Crowley could have received though, myself.

This snippet of dialogue from Romeo & Juliet always gives me heavy Lucien vibes and I need to share the brainrot with you
aHH oh I can definitely see it...I especially love the phrase, "Beautiful tyrant, fiend angelical," because it reminds me of when Matt was describing some of the imagery that inspired Lucien's transformation.
In response to Aabria asking, "And why is he mostly naked?"--which, already an amazing and hilarious start--Matt gives us this amazing allusion, "It is very much that angelic, biblical kind of visual--that classic painting I reference. And I wanted...wanted to see his muscles--"
And although Matt never confirms which painting Lucien's Neo Somnovem form is based off of, I always had a feeling it was Fallen Angel. Instantly recognizable, incredibly poignant and tragic. The anger in his eyes, yet the vulnerability of his pose. The way he's grounded down on earth while the rest of the angels are free to fly. Cast down and forgotten--very Lucien to me.
Tumblr media
There's also just this facinating parallel to me of those with infernal blood being given wings or other angelic features--as a mark of being so far gone and corrupted. Obann's coveted wings, thematically ripped apart by a real angel when he's struck down. The fiendish Lord of the Hells, Asmodeus, once a "celestial of light"--"Perhaps at one point he wore a golden face...That's long gone."
And then Lucien, who always dreamed of being a butterfly. Transforming into something free and beautiful. Yet his metamorphosis ends in only blood and ruin, wings of bone that will never be able to take flight. He believed himself to be a divinely ordained god, yet when he's finally granted wings, he's more doomed than ever.
And just...the way that Lucien was demonized for his blood for so long, seen as nothing more than a monster. Someone who could never possibly be loved. Even Jester playfully teasing, "I think you're dreamy," takes him completely by surprise. “That’s a new one, as the years went on. Didn’t start that way. Not a lot of folks are eager and kind--especially in Shadycreek Run, growing up--to those of infernal blood.” I think there's also something to be said for Tealeaf literally being someone of infernal blood who uses their blood magic to inflict radiant damage. Something about divine punishment from a demon.
Mollymauk is even called the devil at one point, and it's a moment where we see why Lucien always clung so desperately to being fate touched, to the faint hope that he was destined for more, that there was a future where he would no longer have to be an outcast and a monster, always betrayed and alone. "'The world is yours...We gladly give it to thee...' 'How will I take it? What will it cost?' 'Pain and pain and pain. A dear price for a man, a pittance to a king. And nothing to a God, cosmically ordained...Long may you reign.'" "She's right, this is awfully coincidental...But then, you don't believe in coincidences, do you, Chosen One?"
Going back to theatre and tragedies for a moment--I truly can't get over the fact that Lucien liked performing in plays as a child, and that his parents always cast him as the villain. Lucien portraying the heartless, tyrant knight, demanding that a king murder his own queen if he wants to save his kingdom. "Your lands are surrounded, your castle besieged. Send out your lady love, strike her down before my armies. Her blood for your freedom!"
And I do kind of wonder if the queen's tragic end foreshadows Molly's own choice to tear himself apart to save the rest of the Nein. Lucien the heartless knight, demanding the king sacrifice his beloved queen. Lucien repeatedly telling the Nein to just let go of Mollymauk, to forsake the one person they came this far for. The Mighty Nein risking everything for one doomed, shattered soul. "Not the queen! Not the queen! For our king loves her beyond measure, and she is vanity itself. The kingdom for one soul, and the price never to be paid!" Molly ultimately choosing to give up himself, even though the Nein couldn't. Wholeheartedly believing, "It was worth it. It was worth it--"
Lucien's role in the tragedy also reminds me a bit of the opening for King Richard III. Lucien being as much of a romantic as Mollymauk, but deciding that if he'll never be loved or saved, then he might as well be the coldhearted villain that the whole world tried to make him. "And therefore, since I cannot prove a lover/To entertain these fair, well-spoken days/I am determined to prove a villain."
Resenting Mollymauk for the fact that his soul is so free and full of joy, that this "forgotten fragment," is so adored by the same world that despised him. Begrudging Molly for all the happiness and comforts he never indulged in. Clinging so fiercely to the belief that he was chosen by destiny, some sort of god or king. That he was always meant for more than this tragic, inescapable fate--

Muzan fucking snatched Ingo I can't. It literally would be better if he died.
(Yeah civilians make better sense)
Another unrelated proposal but it's darker
There's a long arduous period in which Ingo was in like the weird Castle thing and he did have his memories.
He knew he wasn't supposed to be here. He wanted to go back to his brother.
he struggled
Until one day he broke (it took years but is is all worth it)
( it's a fun little Pet Project to Muzan all to create such a lovely little prize. a puppet at his very word ingo lucky he gets to keep his personality most of the time because he finds it so amusing)
(Muzan wants to break him he's going to let him keep his memories as he scrubs them away by hand practically killing his determination)
( this is what I'm saying by no Pokemon character would be this brutal man it has to be him)
oh, and that explains why nobody in the corps ever made the connection of "ingo was killed by demons and then immediately afterwards we were seeing a new twelve kizuki that seems to have power over darkness" it's bc it wasn't immediate. there were months (i don't necessarily see it taking years, but maybe) in between for them to assume he died, accept that, and forget that they never technically confirmed any bodies as his.
and what if during that entire time, while ingo's struggling to escape, muzan's also slowly drip-feeding him his blood? he's had long enough to experiment that by now he knows exactly what doses he can give without snapping his mind and ruining his new toy (bc what muzan wants out of this isn't another loyal dog, he wants someone who can think, who can strategize, and if he keeps his personality too, well that's all the more fun), so it's also this slow, agonizing transformation, becoming less and less human, more of his memories slipping away with every step, and he desperately wants muzan to stop but there's also that addictive feeling, on some wretched base level, he wants more he wants to be stronger-
haha wouldn't that be fun.

How I imagine an in-universe The Avengers musical
based on the comments from this pin
He starts the musical with the song "The Avengers Initiative" sung by the narrator Nick Fury featuring his speech
Loki has a ballad called "Kneel Before Me" during the scene where Tony and Steve catch him. This includes his theme from past movies (does he have one?) and his speech from the films, making this song one of the most dramatic solo songs from the musical. We get (hopefully) multiple reprises, each one getting more depressing and honest. (thanks @maddy_clough on Pinterest for the idea, I just expanded on it). Also, Loki dances quite gracefully and shows off a lot of his magic.
Nat is a mezzo and her solo/theme is the softest-sounding song (also @maddy_clough's idea). I honestly want it to be based on some sort of American children's rhyme (itsy bitsy spider?) to show how she is created by the red room since she was a child and was forced to watch many old (prob golden ages/wartime Walt Disney animation studios) Disney movies to learn American culture. Her fighting style is based on ballet and is the most graceful of them all. In her solo, she performs actual ballet, and fun fact, Nat is always played by an actor professionally trained in ballet.
The Chitauri has the most chaotic, hopefully unhinged dance ensemble, during the battle of new york. I just want it to be the craziest shit ever. But not disrespectful to the people lost in the battle of new york.
Steve actually doesn't have his own song/theme, it's the chorus girl song from the 40s. Fury did it to annoy tf out of Steve (and to please fanboy Coulson), but it is actually there to show you that since Steve became Captain America, Steve himself is just secondary. Most people don't want to know him because he's Steve but because he's Captain America. You'll think that Steve dances most with his shield but he's still Steve. He just punches every Chitauri he comes across using the shield as a surprise attack.
Look no one knows why the choreographer decided this but Clint never lets go of his bow & arrow when dancing. Like no one knows why, he just does. Hopefully, he does flips and cool moves, and he'll still be holding his fuckin bow & arrow. Oh and after the battle of new york, we get a bit where he lost his hearing aid so Nat & Clint sign to each other, and behind them, there's a little screen projection of each sign and what they mean. Considering how he isn't in any other MCU movies other than the avengers, I doubt that he has his own solo. like I wished he had a solo and confirmed that he does in fact spend most of his time in the vents but no one appreciates him in the mcu so...
Hulk has an actually good costume. Idk how they'll show the transformation but the Hulk costume is actually good. Bruce's solo is chaotic in a different sense cause Bruce and Hulk are fighting for the solo and their themes crash together. So the fight for control is also represented in the dance cause Bruce dances very small and it's controlled. Hulk is not as unhinged as the Chitauri but is out of control.
Thor's dance is based on Asgardian fighting techniques and how he fights in battle with his hammer. Unlike everyone else, he has an accent and in the script, the director used a whole different font like the comics to show that difference in accent and customs. I'm not sure how but I want Thor's solo and Loki's solo to be parallel in a sense, how you can see that they grew up together but there's a difference in outside respect that changes what they want.
Now Tony is very genius, billionaire, playboy, and philanthropist throughout the musical but when he fights? He's the least graceful. Not only is he wearing his Iron Man costume (which is also very good and realistic) but he and Bruce are the only ones without actual training so he's very... chaotic. He has a solo where he introduces himself to the Avengers in "Genius, Billionaire, Playboy, Philanthropist" which shows Tony as what the in-universe during 2012 portrays him as but in the reprise, it's from Tony's actual perspective which is heartbreaking as always but the catch is the narrator changes from fury to Peggy for this reprise to shows the connection between him and S.H.I.E.L.D.
Does Coulson die, yes sadly. I'm sorry I can't change that even in the musical
Sadly Maria Hills was removed from the musical because according to Secret Invasion, Marvel and the MCU doesn't appreciate her enough to keep to alive.
The musical concludes with now the Avengers singing "The Avengers Initiative" with everyone doing their superhero pose cause why tf not.

One Piece 1107 Spoilers!
This week's thots:
LAW WAKE UP AND SAY SORRY TO BEPO RIGHT THIS MINUTE! THAT BEAR DIDN'T SAVE YOUR LIFE TO BE TREATED LIKE THIS!
ALL DE GIANTS ARE HERE!!! God this is so hype, finally we can see what giants can do unchained!
I just adore that Usopp was the one to notice the giants landing, Elbaf better give him what Egghead should've given Franky istg
On that note I can't shake the thought that when all this has died down and Luffy reverts to base mode, the giants are going to go THERES THE SUN GOD and swarm on God Usopp instead. I need this comical misunderstanding to happen Oda, chop chop
tbqh the little reminder irked me a bit until I remembered this magazine's target audience likely wouldn't have been born when we first met Dorry and Brogy 💀💀
Brook with his lollygagging! where did he get that tea!!
Oda pls give our Jimbei something to do, feck sake like
Zoro quit messing with the catman and gtfo
apparently Red King is a reference to a particular Ultraman character, and while I don't go there I do enjoy this regardless. Hehe.
I wonder will this be the end of the Pacifistas? It'd be fitting, these intended peacekeepers getting scrapped for good with their creator and model.
Bonney, upon seeing God: Idiot.
God al-fucking-mighty pls let us see just one teamup Nika punch by Bonney and Luffy just clattering Saturn before Egghead goes under
Minor thing but I do like how Luffy's font changes in Nika mode to be a little bouncier. It's the small touches.
Also "Nika? What's Nika?" never change King of the Pirates
"No there isn't" FUCKING TELL HIM LUFFY
Solid punches but we're just after Kuma's Beyond the Grave Punch a couple chapters ago and this just isn't as hype, not for want of trying
Okay Vegapunk will most likely die here, but that little line about dying if he's moved gives me anti-death flag vibes, pleaseeee don't cop out Oda c'mon ta fuck
I love that Kizaru shuts his eyes when about to shoot Bonney. It makes me furious.
SANJI COMING IN CLUTCH WITH THE EUGENICS KICK
Tumblr media
TAKE THAT YA SYCOPHANTIC BOLLIX
Luffy/Sanji teamup against Kizaru???
Lads I won't like, I screeched "OH SHIT" as soon as I comprehended Catarina Devon and Van Auger live at the turn up function
Like theory bros have been insisting CATARINA DEVON IS IMPERSONATING THEM OR THEM OR THEM for months now, I'm actually genuinely glad they got a sort of bone thrown their way, even if she wasn't actually in disguise when she did show up lmao
But being serious now, I'm assuming along with everyone else that Devon can now transform into a Gorosei. This is a frightening notion with so many terrible possibilities...
Okay so I first assumed that Saturn was talking about the D wrt "bloodline"... but what if he means whatever makes BB built different?
... Could Blackbeard be a Buccaneer?? I know they're basically "extinct" but the same was said about the Lunarians, and look how that turned out. Tbh if anywhere is safe for someone of a persecuted race, it'd be under Whitebeard...
The lack of airs about Auger when he says this... He fucking MEANS it...
Okay here is maybe the most chilling possibility of the whole chapter (imo). Caribou, traitorous slop dimension Blackbeard stan, tries to finagle his way into the BB squad. Given that he's confirmed to know a number of compromising secrets regarding ancient weapons, this could well be a horrifically pivotal moment in late game One Piece.
Or else they tell him to eff off and vamoose without him, leaving him to sob into his own slop. We'll see NEXT WEEK, NAKAMA! Til then! 💪✖️

spider-man two, thoughts (spoilers below).
Tumblr media
this is literally just spit-balling
harry as venom isn't a plot i hate. the way insomniac likes to craft their stories primarily around the emotional baggage of established relationships that peter (and miles) has. fighting for and against your terminally ill best friend with pretty bleak execution results is far more interesting to me than fighting a character who's no more than a missable footnote in the original game. harry as venom isn't something i'm gunning for in the comics but it works for insomniac.
i'm so glad that insomniac really leaned into peter and mj's dynamic and it was nice to see her as more than just the doting girlfriend.
i mean, darin de paul is just a national treasure. in what world does the man that plays ardyn izunia play triple-j.
speaking of final fantasy xv, king regis you bitch! how dare you stab peter. i cannot believe we have two caelum's in one spider-man game.
i'm so happy they integrated hailey into the main supporting cast (also playable?!) but when did she find out about miles?
mj i get, but i feel peter moved on far too quickly from the fact he nearly killed his girlfriend. and on that note, literally just stands and watches the scream transformation. i know they're trying to keep it together considering peter's experience with the symbiote but like, i would've been pissed at harry.
rio and miles dancing at the gala was the most adorable thing. (especially as someone who grew up with a single-mum).
they literally don't explain how venom gets his name
"show them your manhood!" / "yes sir - wait, what?!"
young peter's look just confirms disney / marvel wanted the face change to represent the mcu because that is literally tom holland's face.
i actually didn't think yuri's performance could get any better, it did especially once peter has the symbiote off.
the music during the venom fight with peter at midtown is incredible.
i obviously knew he wasn't going to die but i legit cried when pete got stabbed.
i understand insomniac really want you to use the symbiote suit but peter's lower-level unlocked suits are low-key hot garbage. even as someone who doesn't mind the militarized, tech suits the choices were so mid. i didn't get the suit i really wanted until after i bet the story. i ended up using the raimi suit which i never used in the original game as i don't like that suit but it was the only normal looking suit that wasn't native to insomniac as i don't like their peter suits.
miles' were better but a lot of them seemed to blend together. his endgame suit is actually my favourite (but with the red, purple and blue ombre lining - which i'm annoyed i couldn't even use the swatch in the finale).
had quite a handful of restarts and crashes in 23hrs play-time.
kinda wish we could've seen young!mj with peter and harry.
miles telling harry that he doesn't care if he's peter's best friend, he's still going to kick his ass was great.
i feel like the plot beats for this game overall were kinda predictable in that kraven was the early game bad guy, pete gets the symbiote suit from harry, harry takes it back and becomes venom all with the end result of norman being pissed at spider-man(s) for harry's probably bad outcome. that said, i genuinely have no guesses for structure of the next one and i doubt they're going to make harry a 'villain' again.
i don't think they'll use carnage in dlc, especially when yuri said it might take "years" to track him down, but i also don't know if he'll be enough for the finale as it might - at least gameplay and conceptually - feel like a venom rehash.
this just me on a tangent so feel free to skip. based on what i said, as someone not super familiar with carnage outside of specific media, the problem i have with him in relation to venom is the same problem i have with 'the batman who laughs' it makes the former feel less threating in direct comparison (which will happen when you cut to carnage after immediately having venom as a main antagonist one game prior), especially when venom is brock rather than peter as the host, because there's internal conflict with peter (which can be argued with tbwl's to some extent). carnage, in basic terms is bat-shit venom with zero redeeming qualities and i worry that for a medium like this he will feel derivative. the joker and the venom shouldn't feel less dangerous, especially now that it feels like venom has taken on anti-hero and carnage has become what venom was. like what happened in cruella. disney tried to make cruella likable, so emma stone basically played 'disney: harley quinn' and emma thompson played cruella.
this is oddly specific but i feel laura bailey is like the only woman in gaming that goes for the scream. and i always watch these games (cyberpunk in particular) and i'm like "girl scream, let out that guttural scream because i know that's exactly what's i'd be doing in that situation because this shit is terrifying." the only other time i've properly seen it done was also by laura bailey when she played fetch.
i actually don't know if we'll get another in-between game because i feel like the "play as miles'" itch has been scratched. meaning there's no need to fill that void as until his spin-off we couldn't play as him, now we can.
but if we do, could potentially see a silk, miles team-up to take down carnage.
mj's stealth missions are terrifying. her section under the tunnel with peter should’ve been longer
gutted there's no ng+ yet.
my bisexual queen is thriving.
getting the spider-bots was really the only fun thing to collect.
we’ll probably see gwen in the next game.
the sheer amount of detail on felicia's face
i can’t not hear wally in any of jason spisak’s roles.
“i don’t know what it is, but i just love this spider-bot.” - peter (about the spider-girl spider-bot)
vulture, electro and shocker really didn’t need to be killed completely off-screen. but i feel like they might’ve lost their rating if they weren’t. it’s just a bit strange that nobody noticed, especially pete that multiple high-profile raft inmates went missing?
people are being weird as fuck about cindy and peter. the girl is clearly a minor.
i booted up the first game to replay it, yeah. i still don’t like peter’s new face.
felt like there was half an act missing. could’ve done with one more agent venom mission, perhaps they can’t save vulture or electro. kinda felt like they needed a ‘he really is taking them out one by one.’
could’ve done with venom’s arc being a little longer.
miles’ arc was incredible and i loved watching him team-up with mj.
the black suit with the blue and red highlights from the nineties cartoon?!
speaking of, mj’s outfit during the zoo mission is also a call back
reed richards is defo getting a cameo in the next game and maybe tony on a phone call. i’d also love a nudge-nudge side-quest for deadpool.
i know it’s an emotional scene but i spat out my drink when i saw they changed the pic of harry from the old game to his new design in peter’s garage.
“i think we should get them” the line delivery on that is immaculate, like thank you captain obvious.
i’ve had a bit to linger on this but, there’s a bit of a disconnect between harry wanting the suit and getting it back. i think there had to be just a bit more push with peter specifically. i get he’s a nice guy but we needed to see a bit more passive aggressive harry brewing in the desperation for the symbiote.
watching a playthrough i realised venom got his name from oscorp / dr. connors as there’s a container with the name “vnm” when peter turns connors human again.
i don't want a venom spin-off and it feels like the only people who do want it is to take venom for an hour's joy-ride (until the gimmick wears off) or eddie brock stans that feel jilted by insomniac. i'd much rather get straight to the finale because i don't want to have to buy a playstation six just because some randomers want an eddie simulator first.
chameleon is absolutely going to be dlc.
how did mj get her motorbike back from the tunnel?
predictions for the next game:
electro isn't dead, primarily due to the fact that max may have became pure energy to escape kraven.
cindy, miles and black cat team-up mission.
may is hinted at towards the end of the game.
madame webb is getting something.
if carnage is in the third game and not two's dlc, he'll be the opening act villain (pseudo-kraven).
they'll tease hobgoblin - harry or not. (i could genuinely see harry becoming hobgoblin to help take down otto and green goblin, if it's norman).
peter might die, but i doubt it.
if harry dies, it'll be half-way through the game. i will actually kill myself tho.
i low-key want spot to be in the game or dlc but i don't think they'll do that purely because of spider-verse but you can tell a lot of insomniac grew-up on the nineties show, so it might be a possibility. (most of my knowledge for spider lore exists in that show and the various film franchises because the only spider comics i own is one 'noir' trade and a handful of 'the superior foes of spider-man'.)
i mean, they also could have miles go after spot, which could be fun.
HOLY FUCK! WAIT! HARRY AS GREEN GOBLIN COULD BE AN HOMAGE ARC TO MARY JANE IN LIMBO BUT EVEN MORE ANGSTY CAUSE THAT SERUM IS DEFO GONNA MAKE HARRY PSYCHO - I ACTUALLY NEED TO SEE IT BECAUSE THAT EPISODE IS LITERALLY ONE OF MY CORE MEMORIES.
the delivery of “i think we should get him” is immaculate
someone mentioned this on tvtropes, but stark industries bankrolling f.e.a.s.t is not a bad idea.
fisk will probably be back in side mission capacity or dlc.

I finally FINALLY finished the story quest so I can reply to this lol. I'm only how many months late?? But I'm here now and ready to slap the whiteboard.
@5aph join us at the round table
Note: I'm going off Mihoyo's cutscene trailers so Lumine is the "evil" twin and Aether is the one we play.
---
Honestly, I think we've been pretty spot on with our theories. Maybe not the specifics but in general we have been. I still believe in the theory we made last time where: because Khaenri'ah never had a God, they had to find a way to survive in a different way. Creating machines and using alchemy/khemia instead of visions or having an archon.
Now it's confirmed that Dainsleif used to be a part of Khaenri'ah and worked as some sort of guard (PRINCE KAEYA AU WHERE) but this makes me wonder. If Khaenri'ah was already going to shit when Dainsleif was "mortal" how the fuck is Kaeya okay?? Was Khaenri'ah just a shit place to live and that caused his father to take him to Teyvat to save their already ruined world? It's been 500 years so were their just a group of humans somehow living? Or maybe Khaenri'ah is separated from Teyvat and therefore, time passed faster/slower?
Honestly, I think the Unknown God was talking about how Khaenri'ah people were building machines that were stronger than vision holders (according to Dain and Mr.Wolf). If Record of Ragnarok has taught me anything, it's that God's are assholes. Plus if you think about it, that's kinda how the electro archon is. Venti doesn't really care about his Archon duties and Zhongli found empathy/humanity through Guizhong but I fully believe in Dictator Zhongli if Guizhong never existed. I'm assuming that Khaenri'ah people were oppressed or were getting a bit too cocky, either accidentally turning themselves into monsters through khemia or the gods did that themselves, then Unknown God appears and you know the rest. Or maybe, and hear me out, the beginning cutscene we see is a timeline where the Travellers actually succeeded in their mission to help Khaenr'ah. But because of our arrogance to change destiny, we got sent back and everything was either undone or the Unknown God threw everything to shit while we were asleep. Once we woke up, everything was already ruined and etc.
But either way, she probably destroyed Khaenri'ah. Her powers are these cube things, right? And during the flashback with Lumine overlooking what appears to be Teyvat or Khaenri'ah, we see those same red cubes. But there were definitely more Gods, especially if we are going all the way back into the past. I remember Zhongli/Archon war, there were numerous Gods fighting each other. But I think she might be a part of Celestia (maybe like a guard, the same way as Dainsleif?) and not one of the original Seven but I could be completely wrong. Every Archon seems to have an element and she doesn't, plus her cubes trap people and who knows what else.
Maybe it's because I've been reading Tokyo Revengers but this feels like an "I'm going into the past to change the future". Instead of Aether + Paimon, it's Lumine + Dainsleif and they go through the same journey as us. All the stories we hear from Barbara might have come from when Lumine first travelled through Teyvat. I definitely think that the first sibling tried to save Khaenri'ah but failed and using the second sibling (aka us), they are trying to re-write the destiny they experienced. The one where everything goes to shit.
I definitely believe that both Dain and Lumine had the same idea. They wanted to stop the Gods and they both dislike them. But due to some unfortunate incident, Lumine became "corrupted" in the sense that the "end justifies the means" while Dainsleif wanted to rely on himself and not involve others. So they separated and that's why even though the Abyss Order and Dain share a common goal, he's actively fighting against the Order. Plus, considering that this was in the past, I would assume that Venti/Zhongli aren't the same happy/calm people like they are during our adventure. Plus I think Paimon is a better friend compared to Dain when it comes to emotions too.
As for the Tsaritsa, yeah I would agree that she is trying to do the same thing. We're not 100% sure if she's trying to wage war against Celestia or there is an ulterior motive but Childe did say that Tsaritsa wasn't a bad person. But honestly same?? Where is Venti + Zhongli in this?? Give me more lore crumbs plss.
Now the upside-down Archon statue. We see the statue chained up and the symbolism is literally screaming in our faces. perhaps this is something Khaenri'ah people did because they had no archon? Not exactly the same way since I don't think they could lug a giant statue away but using Archon objects to draw power to use them as a catalyst? Re-watching the cutscenes, apparently, they are using the statue as a base, attaching osial's limbs to construct a mechanized god. Since the statue holds abyss power which corrupted Dvalin and it was strong enough to kill a human (like we saw with the thief) it makes sense.
It makes you wonder how Dain got his immortality. Perhaps he was going to become an Abyss Herald himself but something happened, maybe Lumine stopped his transformation since they used to be partners. Or dain is just an op bastard and broke free and fled. I'd like to believe that during the fall of Khaenri'ah, instead of helping the people he simply watched which caused Lumine to feel betrayed and that's why they went their separate ways.
I also want to point out that our twin is using the same sword that we saw during the opening cutscene. But I think I'll stop here since this post is long enough lol. Ty for being patient with me (❤´艸`❤)

Part 4 - Basic Concepts of Miraculous Ladybug: Glamour
You can call it however you want: kid's show logic, superhero disguise logic, magical girl show logic, cartoon laws, suspension of disbelief, etc. But the fact that nobody recognises Marinette, Adrien and others when they are suited up IS NOT BAD WRITING. It's one of the main laws of this genre. That's not because characters are stupid, okay? So, being frustrated that everyone in the show acts stupid about this "wearing a mask that covers only eyes" trope is strange. This criticism is not valid or fair.
Tumblr media
But, this trope has to make sense in-universe as a worldbuilding and narrative element.
Miraculous doesn't give us much direct information on how glamour works. And in this case, I think we need both SHOW and TELL. Because if you don't establish the glamour rules clearly, you are going to run into problems and create unfortunate implications with your storytelling choices.
Appearance
Miraculous obviously gives our heroes magical glamour. In "Lady WiFi" we find out that masks can't be taken off. It's magic. No other explanation is needed.
Miraculous can slightly change the appearance of users (eyes, face shape, height and hairstyles). People can identify and notice the hairstyles of heroes (numerous Ladybug wigs, statue in Copycat). Jagged Stone points out the change of hair when he mistakes Chloe for Ladybug ("Antibug"). But it's just a costume. There is no magic that prevents Jagged from understanding that Chloe isn't Ladybug. So, how does it work? But it's forgivable because it's cartoon logic. Suspension of disbelief works here, I suppose. I won't judge this too harshly.
Glamour also obviously prevents people from making a connection that Marinette and Ladybug have identical hairstyles. So people know that Ladybug wears her hair in pigtails, but magic does not allow them to notice similarities.
Another important question. Does glamour work on Kwamis? Can they see who is behind the mask?
New York Special makes it clear that magic does not affect robots and they can see through glamour. Does that mean that Markov, AI built by Max, knows the identities of Ladybug and Chat Noir? And it's never addressed.
Plagg in "Frightningale" says that holders can subconsciously choose their superhero appearance. This is actually pretty interesting and I like this idea a lot. Except the show is not consistent with this. The transformation of Master Fu looks identical to Nathalie's. And we have seen how different from each other Ladybug and Black Cat holders looked in the past. At the same time, Master Fu and Nino have different takes on Turtle superhero suit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Age Glamour
Does age glamour exist? Do people see Ladybug, Chat Noir and other heroes as adults even when they look like teenagers to the audience (their height and build are smaller even when they are transformed)? Is that why no one ever questions the fact that children nearly die on a daily basis?
I mentioned unfortunate implications earlier. Well, this is where they come into play. Let's talk about "Copycat". A lot of people discussed it before me, so I won't bore you with details.
Tumblr media
When I watched "Copycat" for the first time Theo's crush on Ladybug didn't bother me, because I thought that he sees Ladybug as his peer, a girl who is about 20-23 years old. Theo is an artist, his character design is that of an adult. He has his own studio, its appearance indicates that he did serious commissions in the past. The guy has no idea that Ladybug is like 13.
Tumblr media
But then we get "Heroes' Day" and "Ladybug". And Hawkmoth calls them "kids", which means that there is no age glamour. Others see Ladybug and Chat Noir as teenagers. Perhaps, other Miraculous users aren't affected by age glamour. Therefore regular people see all heroes as adults but other heroes are able to guess their age more or less correctly. But you must spell this thing out because the audience can interpret "Copycat" differently. If there is no age glamour, then Theo is crushing on a teenage girl and he is fully aware of this fact. And this doesn't look good for your show.
The "No Age Glamour" theory is further confirmed in "Sapotis" where Alya just straight up analyses voice recordings and says that Ladybug is a girl their age. If glamour exists then it should also cover technology. Kwami can't be photographed. Face and voice recognition software shouldn't be able to analyse transformed superheroes and detect their identities in any way.
Besides, after "Sapotis" Alya should definitely be sure that Ladybug is not 5000 years old (also not an adult), especially after she wore Miraculous herself and was one door away from detransformed Ladybug.
SEASON 4 UPDATE! There's no age glamour after all.
Tumblr media
In "Furious Fu" Su Han calls Chat Noir a child without knowing his identity. It means that everyone knows their superheroes are teenagers. "Copycat" can't be saved from that, uh, subtext anymore. No one questions the danger of their job or the balance of their lives outside of the mask. No one doubts their competence after "Origins" ever again. No one becomes annoyed after being bossed around by two teenagers in spandex. You had many opportunities to drop these details into the narrative. Someone could have been akumatized over this (I will not be ordered around by some magical kids!).
I don't know why writers decided not to use at least this idea and slightly adjust "Copycat" if they got rid of the age glamour completely. It can be explained as kid's show logic, but unfortunately, I'm reluctant to do it. If many characters sympathise with akuma victims on-screen, why not with the teenage superheroes who must fight them?
New York Special had this weird focus on collateral damage out of nowhere (the damage done by sentimonster Robostus) and yet it has 0 effect on the main story. No one in Paris is pissed that their 2 teenage protectors weren't there.
Ironically, "Furious Fu" and that one remark made by Su Han also created unfortunate implications for other moments in the show. Just hear me out. Apparently, Jagged Stone wrote a "thank you" song for Ladybug knowing that she is 13-15 year old child back in "Pixelator". Fandom is more than happy to roast Lila for lying about saving Jagged Stone's cat and him writing her a "thank you" song. Fandom claims that Lila's tale could harm Jagged's reputation, when he wrote a song for teenage Ladybug several weeks prior. Meanwhile, in-universe this lie is 100% believable.
If we put on "realism glasses", then both this whole song situation and Theo's crush in "Copycat" have uncomfortable implications. However, the show's canon can't be viewed and criticised through "realism glasses". I admit that bits and pieces of my criticisms are affected by these "glasses", but, ultimately, I'm trying to be fair and concentrate only on things that can't be justified by "cartoon logic and worldbuilding".
Could the existence of age glamour solve this problem of unfortunate implications and other concerns mentioned above? YES. Is it better for the narrative? YES. Is essential for the story? NOT QUITE. Could the absence of age glamour be called an irredeemable storytelling flaw? NO.
Disclaimer: On a side note, only older audience can notice these implications. Children, the target audience, most likely won't understand this subtext simply because they don't have enough experience. So, perhaps, this criticism is unfair, because these moments only look weird to me as an adult. It's like an adult joke in a cartoon that you don't get until you reach a certain age.
There's nothing technically wrong with adult writing a "thank you" song for a teenager. It's just an expression of gratitude. However, unfortunately, we live in a world, where adults normally wouldn't write songs for teens to express gratitude only. In real life similar actions would imply pedophilia and would be actively scorned by the public. No one would risk their reputation like that even if their intentions were genuinely pure and sincere. But this show can't be viewed through "realism glasses", because it's a cartoon and in certain cases we as the audience must use suspension of disbelief and pretend that certain things are possible for plot to happen.
Su Han also wants to give Ladybug and Black Cat to adults. Why didn't Master Fu do this then? Writers don't give us any explanation. Throughout the show we never question this up until the moment it's revealed that adults don't have time-limited powers. Then comes "Furious Fu". Story suddenly becomes self-aware here. Because apparently nothing prevented Fu from giving the most powerful Miraculous to adults who won't have time limit and will be more effective against Hawkmoth (see part 3 for more details).
I have a very good example of Age Glamour done right. It works in the story. There is no confusion or unfortunate implications. There is like one plothole connected to the glamour (it's been years and I still can't forgive them for Cornelia and Caleb) but otherwise, it's a pretty solid example of both show and tell. Clearly, writers wanted to avoid uncomfortable implications which are present in "Copycat". I am talking about W.I.T.C.H. comic books and animated series.
If you are not familiar with it, I'll give you a brief explanation. The story follows 5 girls, the Guardians of Kandrakar who are chosen to protect their world and parallel ones from evil. They receive magical powers from the amulet known as the Heart of Kandrakar. Their powers are based on elements: fire, water, earth, air and energy. Our main characters are about 13-15 years old. In the animated series they are younger and they attend middle school, making them 12-14 years old. But the transformation makes them look 18-20. They look like young women to each other and to other people. At the same time, people can recognise them, their looks and voice don't change. Most people don't know that they are really teenagers when they are not transformed and these people don't know that magic can make them look older. That's why everyone treats Guardians like adults when they are transformed. Comics establish this fact in the very beginning. In first issues characters state that they look older, we are also shown this multiple times.
Tumblr media
In fact, one of the first side plots revolves around the fact that Irma uses her powers to sneak into the disco club to meet up with her crush. Irma is 13 at the beginning of the series, she is a high school freshman. Her crush, Andrew Hornby is a senior guy 17-18 years old. Irma has liked him for a long time and wants to impress him, so she decides to be clever about this. She transforms into her Guardian form of the 18-year-old girl, hides her wings, sneaks out to the club after her parents are asleep without any problem, and meets Andrew, who obviously doesn't recognise Irma in this girl who looks about his age. Smitten Andrew offers her a ride and 13-year-old Irma doesn't understand the implication of that offer, so she accepts. And, obviously, he decides that she is interested in more than just a ride home, since she agreed, and the comic implies that he fully intended for them to have sex in the backseat of his car. But Irma understands the implication only when Andrew tries to kiss her. She panics and turns him into a frog. And she actually pulls this "I need to look mature" trick more than once over the course of the series.
It's not the only situation where this age difference is handled well and makes sense. People who know the main characters in everyday life remark on their older appearance during transformation. Sometimes people flirt with Guardians when they are transformed. In one of the side-novels centred around Cornelia, she is worried that the prince of the realm they helped to save from famine would try to marry her. That never happens, but Cornelia actually brainstorms with her friends about how to tell the prince that she is really 15.
There are many other plot points where this happens, but I think that you got the idea. I really like how "Age Glamour" was handled in W.I.T.C.H.
How do we fix this? Create the situations where people offhandedly mention "Age Glamour" in the presence of Marinette or Adrien, use Kwami for this.
"Don't worry, dear. Chat Noir and Ladybug are adults, who know what they are doing. I am sure that they will handle this. "
Theo could say: "Oh, I wonder which university Ladybug goes to?"
"So, does that mean that other people see us as grown-ups, Tikki?"
A few words and boom, problem solved. Then allow the "show don't tell" rule do the rest.

Here's Eclipse Lake, an episode that has been highly anticipated! Will it top Knock, Knock, Knockin' On Hooty's Door?
I'll skip the pretense: No. It won't.
You'll see under the cut.
Hmm, that list of ingredients for the Grimwalker...I'll let other people theorize about this (like @sepublic ), but it sure looks like a thing
Guess the mysterious green goo won't cut it, huh?
Belos face reveal already?! Huh, didn't expect it so soon.
Oh, no, he's hot! (And I'm mad about it)
Still an ass, though
Now we know why Hunter was wearing a different outfit (because people fixated on that for some reason)
Amity with the clipboard gives me strong Dipper vibes
GHOST! My beloved!
I need a moment because CAT!
(Also, someone pointed out earlier that Ghost was based on Dana's cat, and that's super obvious in hindsight)
Raine?! Oh, wait, you mean rain. Sigh.
Eda gets training tips from DBZ confirmed
(Also Amity's face when reacting to Eda's explanation is priceless)
Oh God Eda's a weeb I need another moment
Damn, Amity just straight up calling Eda old
Oh, loopy Luz
(The abomination holding the tissue box is adorable for many reasons)
Yeah, don't want Luz to eat the McGuffin
I have several questions about those Tamagotchis that I'll refrain from listing here
Amity your Odalia is showing
Girlfriend counter: 1
(Yes I am introducing a counting gag, deal with it)
Was wondering if they were ever gonna reference the dissection incident. We've come a long way, baby!
Oh, so that's what everyone was looking at
Luz honey your enthusiasm is admirable but no
Luz burrito is quite cute, though
Girlfriend counter: 2
(Damn, still wild to think that that's the case)
Just occurred to me that "Boots" is probably shortened from "Bossyboots" from earlier
Guess the Luz hiss compilation needs to be updated again
Those tunnels ain't the only thing around here that's unstable, amirite?
Oops, guess Kiki was justified, after all
Maybe don't talk so loudly about your plans, dude
That is her son, get it right!
Serves you right for having that stupid strand of hair sticking out like that
Is this just the episode where everyone dunks on White Boy? Because I can totally get behind that.
Already mentioned this, but I am loving the parallels between Katara and Amity with that bottle of abomination goo. Insert obligatory "Two Nickels" meme here about Mae Whitman.
We really are just dunking on the white boy and I am living for it
Hooty had to get it from somewhere, I suppose
Nothing says mother-son bonding like shooting things at each other (see also: Separate Tides)
I'm sure the magic bouncing off the veins won't come into play later at all
Oh well, at least the echolocation looked cool
At this point Amity would kill Hunter for a Klondike bar
Wait why does Hooty need a chair
Willow with the galaxy brain ideas
"A bad but sad boy" Luz is a genius at succinctly summing people up
Kikimora continues to be unhinged. Ironically she's not wrong about Hunter.
Motherfucker stop acting like you know what that says
(Also, projecting much?)
Girlfriend counter: 3
Friendly reminder that Hunter is still an antagonist
Uh oh
UH OH
I know someone mentioned Willow having the brain cell, but honestly it seemed like Luz had it this whole time. And that's not good.
WHY IS FOOL'S BLOOD EVEN A THING
Aaaaand cue the getting screwed over
Further reminder that he's still an antagonist (Apparently there's a vocal segment who's Really Mad at him that seem to forget this fact)
You unhand Ghost right now!! And Amity too, I guess.
(I kid, she's literally my second favorite character)
For what she did to Raine it warms my heart to know Kiki has had zero peace of mind
Wait, the Abomatons are Transformers?! Okay, that's kind of awesome, actually. Alador might be a shit dad but he is a brilliant inventor.
Chucking kids off cliffs is a surpisingly common pastime in the Boiling Isles
Owlbert no!
Eda did spend literal decades fighting the Owl Beast within, so I guess she can't be blamed for not thinking to talk to it
Also hurry up guys I'm very concerned about Owlbert
Fuck yeah Harpy Milf!
Yay Ghost returns!
Tumblr media
She's glad they're okay (I didn't need to take this, I just thought it was cute. Also this is surprisingly high quality considering I just took a photo of my TV screen)
Oh, so they do have video games in the Demon Realm. That or Luz introduced them.
Trailer shot!
Oh dear, we about to have a fight over the key
Wow, being so high ranking under Belos is really bad for mental health
Jesus Christ Belos what have you been putting in this poor kid's head?
Leave it to King to give radical recontextualizations
Amity, I'm glad you remembered/realized this about Luz, please don't let the sad white boy play you like that again
Also, I appreciate the gesture you're making, and it's a wonderful summary of your character development, but goddamnit he's gonna go for that key because he's STILL AN ANTAGONIST
"Being nice usually works for Luz!" A) Not always, and B) Amity I love you but Luz you are not. A valiant attempt nonetheless.
Ooh, cool fight scene!
Always lovely to see such superb animation
I was privately griping about not seeing Amity use magic for so long, and now I am fed
Don't think I didn't hear the glass breaking
Appreciate your ass from a hole in the ground, Golden Boy!
(jk I don't actually feel that strongly about him still. That kind of threat still isn't cool, though)
Oh so that's why it's the Common Mold!
Tumblr media
It's kinda cute, actually. Or maybe it's just because it's Luz.
TIL Hooty is heat resistant
Apparently Owl Beast just wanted a snack
Girlfriend counter: 4
Also love how calling Amity her awesome girlfriend is literally the first thing Luz says to her upon returning.
Yesssss return the hug! You deserve it!
Tumblr media
(I know there are higher quality versions of this screenshot, I just didn't feel like looking around)
King demands huggies, too! (And gets 'em)
Reminder that Amity is smart as hell. I knew that glass breaking indicated something!
So once again I've been had. I let the fandom trick me into thinking this episode would be way more intense. Guess that one screenshot was from the next episode.
Overall this was...fine. Some nice Lumity moments, Harpy Eda strutting her stuff, that gorgeously animated fight sequence; those were all lovely.
I do wish Willow and Gus had a bit more to do. And I'm still rather unenthusiastic about Hunter, to be honest. I've seen his type several times before, and the path they have for him is rather obvious. I may never share the fandom's love for him, and I guess I'll have to deal with that.
Anybody who says this was better than KKKOHD is a damn fool.
Mid season finale next week! I think Yesterday's Lie will finally bring the pain!

Hello, let me introduce you to forever changing narutoverse~
Did you know that naruto series doesn't have a stable continuity?
Kishimoto just Like Akira Toriyama made arcs on the spot. The first time Naruto was only to last till bell arc and was extended afterwards. This created lots of retcons and plotholes as the series continued.
Let compare longlines of the pilot and the first chapter of Naruto manga.
Do you see the difference?
"But this is a pilot" you might say "A lot of manga's stray from their pilots"
And that is true, however it gives us valuable information that there actually weren't bijuu but main one the Ninetails.
At the start of the series excluding the pilot, there were no Juubi that split into nine tailed beasts
Shukaku didn't recognize Kurama or that Naruto was the host of him. They were total strangers during the Gaara fight.
Did you know that the first time edo tensei was used in the series the bodies could regenerate themselves?
So The 4th Hokage running around armless was a change they made only in Shippuden for reasons unknown.
Speaking of 4th Hokage at the early Naruto series his name wasn't Minato Namikaze but on the summoning scroll he was first named as Uzumaki Arashi?
These are not the only changes and retcons scattered around the series.
So backing up to the question you've asked do you know when was this introduced to the series?
That's right in THE LAST movie. Right after the original series ended.
It was made so that Hinata would be his first love. And in this canon movie and Boruto series after she probably was, as they've changed 2 more major aspects of the previous Naruto.
First one being kagebunshin no jutsu.
The regular bunshin to pass the academy required this hand seal. However in the Last Naruto already new the forbidden technique hand seal which he shouldn't have learnt as he haven't stolen the forbidden scroll yet.
Meaning the past of this Naruto was changed and we don't know if he actually stole the scroll much earlier in the series or he learned it from somewhere else.
Another major thing that deviates from the old Naruto series is that this Naruto doesn't understand people love vs object love.
While in the OG Naruto the 2 out 3 major fights was literally about Naruto finding people important to his life so he wouldn't be alone.
It's strange that the Borutoverse decided to disregard this, as Hinata was devoted to Naruto even from a distance and gave her life because of it so OG Naruto did understand her feelings. But it probably is much easier to go "he's a dummy that's why he didn't respond for so long :v" then "he might have not considered or felt the same at that moment"
He longed for love, so it was easy for him to resonate with people who seeked it as well.
This is the reason why canon naruto is a multiverse branching out into different directions. Everything here is canon but not much is consistent.?
It's complete bs and whoever wrote this clearly didn't read Naruto properly. The part with Shukaku makes sense as the manga Naruto transformed into a normal fox not the nine tails in the manga that was a change the anime made and is not canon. Second only the jinchuuriki transformation can be considered somewhat reconed, but in part 1 we only had 2 tailed beast shown so it is more of the case of Shukaku being the odd one out rather then Kishimoto retconned.
Tumblr media
The reanimation not regeneration was specifically stated to be due to the truth seeking orbs which negate ninjutsu. This fact wasn't discovered at first as they were using clones, but it is right there in the manga.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As for the name on the scroll Kishimoto just wrote down random names meant to be illegible and not an official statement to what the fourth hoakge's name was. In fact I have only seen western fans point the name out, none of the Japanese fan base has mentioned it nor is there a statement from Kishimoto about and for good reason as it was somthing made up by western fans.
The scroll doesn't even say Uzumaki (うずまき) in the second column, it was only fans only western fans that claimed that. You can clearly tell the difference between Naruto who spelt his full name and compare it with the second column you would find the characters for Uzumaki aren't there.
The characters for Arashi are アラシ or 嵐, neither of which if you look closely match what is on the scroll.
Namikaze Minato 波風ミナト If you look at the characters for Minato's name you would notice that Namikaze has the same kanji that Arashi is spelt with.
So not only does it not say Uzumaki were Minato's name should be, but the characters for the name people claim closely match the characters that appear in Minato's name.
So yeah the fan name people use is completely made up.
Tumblr media
nThe last never retconned anything, the only thing they can was, would be the starting bit, but even then that would be more of an animation error as they used shadow clones instead of regular clones. Naruto's signature jutsu is shadow clones so the one doing that scene getting confused with the normal clone jutsu is no surprise. Sakura was never canonically called Naruto's first love either, it only said he liked Sakura, but never once stated he actually loved her. Also the manga confirms what the last said about him competing with Sasuke as in the manga Naruto only ever brought up asking Sakura out when Sasuke is involved or about to show up.
Naruto never understood love though cause he never had anyone love him like that, he had friendship with team 7 and slight family love, but keep in mind it was one sided on Naruto's end a lot at first. Naruto never actually brings up love in the fights he mentioned it mostly goes on about being freed from his loneliness and not love. The most important people Naruto had at the times of the mentioned fights were his friends and considering Naruto started out with nothing his bar for friends and family are set drastically low. It wasn't just love that Naruto sought, but it was acknowledgement which is what he goes on about when he beat Gaara that he found people that acknowledged him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
See even Naruto outright states the reason why his friends are important to him is cause they acknowledged his existence. He never once mentioned love, but acknowledgement and being saved from loneliness are the key parts of his speech.

Frozen 3 concept
I'mma start off with explaining that I'm not the biggest fan of Frozen and I'm definitely not a fan of Elsa's character in general.
But as much as I love the songs and outfits of the second movie, the inconsistencies and how it never explains how sh🤬 works in the world with magic and such are just infuriating. As well as why the spirit that connects them controls ice which is just a variation of water. And how the Frozen franchise just loves to make Elsa more special within every installment.
I am so very tired of it. So I came up with a way that it could all be fixed and make sense if they make a third movie.
Also to note that Anna and Elsa are supposed to be two halves of the fifth spirit but that's VERY briefly touched in movie (quote: well actually a bridge has two sides and mother had two daughters) and Disney themselves take Elsa as the fifth spirit alone so that's stupid.
Why Elsa specifically controls ice
We all know how we're frustrated with the fact that Elsa is supposed to connect all the elements when she only controls ice.
But let's think about it from another prospective. The first movie is based about the seasons. It's a seasonal theme rather than an elemental theme like in its sequel. So why not bring that back?
The enchanted forest cannot be the ONLY place that has mystical spirits. What if there were three other forests with their own fifth spirits and each fifth spirit represented a season?
And each seasonal spirit's magic is a mix of two elements.
Elsa/Winter: Ice = water + air
Spring: Plants = water + earth
Summer: Lava = earth + fire
Fall: Lightning/Storms = air + fire
This still fits in with the fact that the fifth spirit can play back moments in time as well. Each spirit has their own Ahtohallan. Elsa's is made of ice because it's just frozen water and the water is was plays back those moments in time.
Spring's would be like an island made of plants, fungi and marsh. Plants have water running within them so they can take the form of moments in time like Elsa's ice statues.
Summer's would be a volcano with a river flowing through it. Lava and water can mix to create lava rocks. When doing so the memories within that water would be imbedded into the rocks they form and therefore be able to play moments in time as rock statues.
Autumn's would basically be a fog bank with almost ghostly figures making up the memories since fog is a mist, aka: water. Kinda like the scene where Elsa fights the wind spirit and their powers mix for a moment.
Where the others come from
For this, I decided to look around other lands within that side of the world that has legends of spirits. I decided upon:
Spring = Scotland
Summer = Arabia
Fall/Autumn = Japan
I chose for Arabia to be summer, of course , because it's a desert country so it very hot. Japan is autumn because it's culture and everything just always reminded be of the beauty of fall. And Scotland is spring because that's what was left and when I think of Scotland, I think of it's green forests and plants.
Nothing too deep.
Personalities
You think I'd make Summer hotheaded and spring, giddy and bouncy, right?
No, because you see, as I've stated in another post of mine; Why Frozen Doesn't Work In The Big Four, I explained how Elsa's personality reconciles more with summer. The opposite season of her own.
Elsa is kinda quiet, gentle, diplomatic, practical, worries silently and is angelically innocent (even though she doesn't deserve to be).
All are traits relating to summer. So if her personality is opposed to her season, then it'd be the same for the other fifth spirits.
Spring would be a leader, confident, energetic, true to a cause, dependable, easily irritated and stubborn.
Summer would be reserved, well mannered, a good listener, natural poise and pessimistic.
And autumn would be energetic, tender-hearted, optimistic, friendly and overly talkative.
How the spirits work
I fully believe that the spirits have no physical form but rather inhabit certain things. Basically possession but the spirits don't have control over themselves once they choose a vessel and depending on the solidarity of what their element is, determines what kind of vessel they need.
The wind spirit is said to be a playful spirit and would want to make its own choices. Being an element you can't hold, it doesn't really need a host.
Water is liquid and needs something to be it's host but doesn't necessarily need something alive. Therefore it can inhabit a small animal or it inhabits its own element, hence a water horse.
Fire isn't a solid or liquid but it's not necessarily a gas either. Fire always needs to burn on something in order to burn. Therefore it cannot just make out it's own body like water but it doesn't need a large vessel. Hence, a little salamander.
Earth is the most solid of them all so it would need multiple hosts in order to sustain itself. That's why there are multiple earth giants and not just one like the other spirits.
I believe the spirits don't have control over their actions once they choose a host because all the spirits (besides wind) seem to not know what's even going on most of the time. And that would explain why the spirits didn't get rid of the dam themselves, because their vessels didn't know that was the problem.
I also believe that they need a host to begin with because they are actually susceptible to death. As it has been confirmed that Elsa is NOT immortal and there wouldn't have been a legend of a fifth spirit if people hadn't seen one before.
It would also explain how the spirits drove the citizens out of Arendelle without physically being there; they managed to leave their hosts for a time in order to do so. Along with what the light that Elsa was following at Ahtohallan, was. The fifth spirit was able to sustain itself by staying in its birth place and activated the memory of Elsa's mom singing, to bring Elsa there and when Elsa's dress transforms is when the spirit possesses her.
Why does the fifth spirit need to be human? Because humans are more durable. The fifth spirit doesn't control anything completely solid like rock so it doesn't need multiple vessels but it also controls more than a single element, therefore is too much to figure out/control for just any animal.
That's why it chose a very young child to give it's powers to rather than the person who actually did the deed of saving their enemy. It needs to be someone who will have the time to learn and control their powers by adulthood.
(Despite Elsa not truly being worthy and being a horrible sister, she was already chosen at birth and she at least gets the job done. At everyone else's expense but still.)
Plot
How would the seasonal spirits meet? Why would they leave their homes for this? What brings them together?
The four sided snowflake represents the elements connected to the winter spirit. Every season would have their own version of this. But there are also four seasons just like there are four elements.
Tumblr media
So, could there be a fifth spirit for the fifth spirits? A fifth spirit to connect the seasons and if so, what is it? What's their power?
I believe, much like the winter spirit called to Elsa, the ultimate fifth spirit will call all the seasonal spirit's to come together at a single location. Anna would come with Elsa as well, of course, and during their journey, they'd all eventually meet each other along the way.
Eventually Anna would start to feel a little neglected when Elsa keeps talking to / about the other people who also have magic. Anna doesn't wish for magic, but she wishes for Elsa to finally see herself and Anna as equals (because Elsa clearly wouldn't after finding others like herself, let's be real). So Anna goes off to have her own sort of "Show Yourself" moment and is the one to find the location they've been looking for which is where she becomes their fifth spirit; the Aurora Borealis.
It was in one of the original scripts for the first movie that Anna was gonna have the power to control the Aurora Borealis, but then the creators decided that took away from Elsa's agency for self isolation due to her powers.
It's true that Anna having been able to accomplish what she did without powers is one of her best attributes but Anna becoming the light spirit is really the only way she's gonna get any appreciation within the fan base or the disney community. Plus Anna's done all the work to begin with so she deserves it.
With the other spirits being seasonal & elemental, it would only make sense for the one to connect them all would be light.
But all the spirits also have an opposite to balance them out:
Fire | Water
Earth | Air
Winter | Summer
Spring | Autumn
So maybe the reason they were all being called there is because Light's opposite is Darkness and it's plotting to take them all out. They are in charge of keeping balance and darkness wants to create chaos. But you also need darkness for balance, so maybe someone else will be with them through the journey and become the vessel for darkness in order to control it. Because, again, spirits have no control once they have a host.
This could be a possible redemption arc for Hans. We could learn about what he's been through and what truly drove him to be the bad guy because from what we know of his brothers, they were really bad. I think he just really lost a nerve due to unintentional (or intentional) abuse and was trying to prove to his family that he was better than they believed. People who suffer from abuse can be irrational like that.
I think it would be a phenomenal thing for him to overcome his inner darkness while also taking control of the literal spirit of darkness.
Metaphorical-wise it's beautiful.
Art/Designs
I edited the other seasons + Anna off of concept art for Elsa's white dress while Hans is kinda my own creation but I still used his concept art for a base. Everything after that are purely original.

Kny oc time y'all
Okay, for some "amazing" reason my device won't let me send the GRAINY photos it takes so y'all have some reference to my art but okay, whatever TumblR-
Anywho-
So in a later post I mentioned I planned to work on a Demon Slayer oc, and I.. I wasn't lazy and I actually did it. And I love hiM- Just, lore.. Lore is being difficult right now, and since I'm not too caught up with the entirety of Kny, I wanted to ask y'all if this would be completely legal to do or noT.
My oc's name is Akuma, sigh yesiknowliketheguyfromstreetfighter. Take this emoji 👹 and just make it look cooler looking. He's based off that Oni mask with a few changes. He's got four eyes instead of two, some markings, marbled skin, and a few other things.
He is red, his marbled skin patches are white and grey, and he's got a ring of two tattoos on each arm and two around his tail. Each one is a specific wording that means something horrible. Like chaos, destruction, hellfire, annihilation, death, torment, and so on. Then, his name is located in his back. These are all in Japanese.
Like the emoji, he's got spiky black hair that's short, he's got pointy ears, and he's got the same black fur sprouting from his upper chest over his shoulders. Akuma wears pants similar to Akaza, puffy and kept up with a thick rope type thing, and I think they're gonna be white too— Anyway.
So what I've been driving at here is that- Well all know Tamayo. She has broke free of whatever Muzan's curse was and now lives as a doctor, helping people and more. We know she turned a young boy into a demon and they drink blood, but very, very little. Well.. I was wondering, since she was able to break herself free, and not have the dude under Muzan's name curse, then.. Could she do it for another demon? Specifically Akuma?
That may be legal to do, but here's where it can get into risky territory. Going along with that she's using the demon moon's blood to try and make a medicine that turns Nezuko back human, I had him essentially be experimented on with the tests of those. The story is, Akuma was a lower five, he accidentally came across Tamayo's path, questioned her about being a demon, she confirms it but rebukes Muzan, Akuma finds her a traitor and tries to kill her. He's so calm too like-
"..You're a demon, aren't you? You certainly don't smell like a human." He blinked.
"I am a demon, that is correct." Her voice was soft and quiet.
"Then what are you doing here? Hunting humans? Yet I see no blood or bodies, are you lying?" He craned his horned head.
She shook her head, "No, I'm not lying. I do not eat humans, I'm not under Muzan anymore and I never will be again."
He breathed, then he smiled, his overlapping fangs flashing at Tamayo. "Ah, so, you are a traitor then. I will delight in killing someone as irritable as you, traitor."
then they fight, but it doesn't last very long due to her blood arts. Anyway- So she takes him in, uncurses him y'know, they become friends, yes yes, he helps her and sorts. She's able to use his blood to further the medicine, he willingly let's himself be the test subject- And with each iteration of the medicine, he becomes more and more human.
However, not completely, and that's because he had already had a transformation. The medicine worked until a certain point, and at that point she couldn't test on him anymore. He looked human as his second set of eyes were gone, his horns shrunk down tremendously, he doesn't have a tail anymore, and the marbling in his skin had mutated and moved across his face now giving him a more human skin color.
I could keep going on about his lore but I wanted to know from the folks that know more if this was a legal action to do in the Kny world 👉👈 Lemme know
Also if y'all wanna ask about him go ahead! I'd love questions

A Wild Sheep Chase: Chapter 2 of Choujin X!
It's here! I've gushed about the chapter over at my Twitter, but like I said in my previous post, I want to see how the story progresses and keep a log about it. So here it goes!
Background info on Ely Otsuta
So before we delve into Chapter 2 which almost exclusively featured Ely... Let's take note of the new things we learned about Ely:
She's from a rural prefecture. I think she lives in the mountainside specifically since that's where she grows her tomatoes.
She's a greenthumb (we already kinda knew this from the previous chapter but we learn more about her life pre-Choujin X). I understand that even if the soil is infertile, she's able to grow tomatoes so nutritious and plump. So plump, they resemble butts, hence, "bumbums!" It appears she uses advanced equipment for her farming stuff. So yeah, based on these, it's established Ely has a green thumb!
Oh, and it appears that it's clarified that her "Grandpapi" whom she talks about in the 1st chapter is an adoptive grandfather (not biological, hence, maybe in the future we'd know her parents and learn why Ely is special).
It's just me but I get the impression that Ely is being introduced as some sort of "fertility" choujin, since she also dreams of having 9 kids. Haha!
It's kinda weird though why the burning tomato has a face. Was it just from her dream, since after plucking a bumbum - she woke up? Hmm, after some thought, I think the burning tomato with a face is just from her dream.
Ely Wakes Up from Reality
When Ely woke up, she finds herself in the South Yamato prefecture. Okay, so I think this leaning tower of some sort has a significance to the story.
Tumblr media
It's featured in every spread with the title "Choujin X" and also in the last chapter. Can you see it? Maybe it has something to do with how the powers are made, like pollution-related or a botched experiment. Dunno. Just my wild speculation.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A Wild Sheep Chase
This is the exciting part. So when Ely wakes up, Chandra Hume offers to "escort" her, but really it appears he wants to kidnap her. And from, *checks the manga* page 10 to 40, we have Ely running away from Chandra until she fell in what looks like a similar area where Tokio and Azuma fought Johnny Kiyoshi Takeyama.
The chase sequence consisting of 30 pages were so fun and I was smiling all the while I was reading! Ely is so cute trying to parkour her way through the buildings (kinda reminds me of Touka?? I miss Touka!). Chandra looks really cool, he seemed to be flying too, using his powers (more on that later)!
Tumblr media
But not to be outdone, Ely borrows a "Roller Boy Yay-Yay" which basically is a scooter with something that resembles a driver's wheel. Its literal translation of ローラーBOYイェイ・イェイ -- which, checking Twitter and in Ishida's latest live stream, I think the locals found it hilarious too. Ishida is just unleashing his crazy here, I love it!
After that sequence, we get the tractor and sheep chase. Ah! I love it.. So what happened is that, Chandra and Ely fall off from their Roller Boy Yay-Yay. Ely who just claimed she can outrun Chandra if she were riding a tractor, suddenly found one right in front of her! Then Chandra lands near a gang... or should I say, a flock of sheep-bikers. They're all wearing these Kanji-printed tracksuits and basically look like they're a bunch of delinquents? They even describe themselves as "cryptid bikers"... Cryptid supposedly means mysterious? Idk why the weird choice of words for the translation though.
Funnily, I was just reading Haruki Murakami's A Wild Sheep Chase (羊をめぐる冒険 --- Hitsuji o meguru bōken or literally An Adventure Surrounding Sheep). I wonder if this scene something to do with this book?
Anyway, Chandra entices the sheep to help hip capture Ely by bribing them with a Docomo flip phone. I don't know why a flip phone - could mean the following: (a) the sheep are so poor, a flip phone is cool; (b) maybe flip phones are a status symbol in that universe; (c) maybe the setting is in the 2000s when the flip phones really were all the rage.
So they all chase Ely, but Chandra suddenly has a car too. Someone on Twitter said it's a Porsche? But I can't tell, though Chandra said his car is a four-wheel drive... Heh? Idk what to do with this info.
As for Ely, she is really good with the tractor as she said. The hilarity of outrunning motorcycles and what could be a Porsche. That tractor prowess! Later on, Chandra and the other sheep figure into an accident with a "safety-loving" truck (oh the irony, lol). Chandra flew off the car and so did his fancy shoes...
Tumblr media
Ely didn't exactly come out unscathed. Ishida allocated 4 double spreads for this epic fall. Some of the sheep definitely should have died from that spectacular accident.
At first, Ely was smug about escaping the sheep. But then, I think she was moved by compassion and I think she hurt herself in order to revive the sheep. I just wonder though, how she learned to do that?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then we get another awesome double spread of her transformation, similar to Tokio's. Augh Ishida-sensei. These are soooo good!!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Because of her transformation, the whole area was engulfed with smoked and I think the sheep were effectively revived. It appears Chandra saw all this (while he was regenerating... so we now know choujins or at least smoke choujins like Chandra has regenerative powers), hence he marveled at Ely's newfound power. It was kinda confirmed that Ely was responsible for keeping the casualties to a minimum. Specifically he said Ely possesses: quick judgment, though resolve, persistence... making her a human with the makings of a choujin... while also kinda noting Ely's silliness.
Here we go again with Chandra's "fancy gentleman" facade... Even the way he talks is fancy ("I am well-acquainted with the roads here") but more than that... he's self-important. I talked about my other views on his character on Reddit. I get the impression he's something of a "Choujin supremacist", you know what I mean? So, he wants to kinda recruit Ely into his organization or whatever.
Ely is righteous
So we see that Ely is further introduced as a good character, standing up against Chandra and rejecting his offer to be his pupil or something. Ely was clearly upset about the grandma getting hurt (did she die? I hope she didn't) and made it clear she would never join him. Chandra takes offense at this rejection, especially when Ely said Chandra is worse than a turd.
As Chandra tries to inflict pain on Ely (something about marking her on the face), she recalls her resolve from Chapter 1: drones for farming, a greenhouse, her grandpappy, a mansion, the big dog, paying back the kid for his roller boy yay-yay, the Goldilocks hubbie, nine kids... But just before we can see if she can fight Chandra off...
The most handsome man of all Sui Ishida's works (haha!)
This buff mysterious man with a bandana reminiscent of the Teenage Ninja Mutant Turtles seemed to have blown Chandra and Ely (also the cars and motorcycles) away by a mere clap of his hands. It appears even Chandra is afraid of this guy and recognizes him... he leaves the scene using his smoke powers before the guy can do serious damage. I think his power has something to do with wind since there was like a little hint with all the ventilation stuff in the setting.
The guy manages to create a circle of protection around Ely. He tells Ely that Chandra's modus is to target "people with aptitude like Ely". He helpfully mends Ely's punctured hand with his bandana.... And when Ely looks up at his face, what do you know? Haha!
Our girl Ely has a love interest! Haha.
Tokio's Gregor Samsa moment
I've observed from the manga I've read that characters with transformation abilities always, always go through this adjustment period with the power. Gregor Samsa, Peter Parker, our boy Kaneki... Anyway, it seems Tokio doesn't know or can't turn back into a normal-looking person. But the last panel sure is interesting because we have them experiencing this transformation at the same time. Also, since it reminds me of Touka and Ayato's volume cover. I hope they find each other soon though!
Types of Choujins and initial premises on the Power of Choujins
So there are 3 confirmed types so far: Flexi (Johnny), Bestial (our boy Tokio), and Smoke. It seems that pretty boy Hoshi doesn't have a category yet, but like I said I think his has something to do with air or ventilation lol.
We learned that Chandra is a Smoke Choujin, and Ely is now one too and she was may have been somehow infected by Chandra's smoke/fumes. It appears now that there are 2 ways to become a choujin: injection and inhalation. Chandra wonders if Ely was infected with his power... But I'm thinking the infection theory might not be that accurate. After all, it seems Ely has a green thumb.
But, I think as Chandra said, only some people have an aptitude for this. So, Ely and Tokio are examples. I wonder if Azuma also has choujin powers or did it not manifest yet? Is the aptitude inherent or something you can acquire? If so, what does Tokio have that Azuma doesn't, especially since everyone thinks Azuma is "better" than Tokio in all aspects?
We'll find out in Chapter 3 more or less!! I'm sorry for any grammar mistakes! I'd like to hear your thoughts or comments if any :)

mal de vivre.
The morning that Harry wakes up and you're not sleeping peacefully beside him is the worst of his entire life.
He can sense that you're not there. The air still circulates whiffs of your caramel shampoo and the breeze of your automatic fan that you always insist on leaving on all night still whirs leisurely and tickles the back of his neck.
Regardless, the room is vacant. He doesn't have to open his eyes to know that much.
For now, he remains entirely numb. Immune to the flooding sobs and intolerable agony and festering anger, he supposes it's in his best interest to stay like that for a while.
For a few days, at least. Until he can fully process your absence. He's not certain how long it takes the average person to wholly recognise an entire chunk of themselves missing, but he figures he's already suffered enough.
Surely, the universe isn't that cruel.
Your love is delightedly grand, and with its sudden unavailability, he feels so dejectedly vague.
He's clearly not perceiving time correctly, perhaps it's his distant concentration or maybe even his body's method of rejecting life and the wretched torture of its innate malice.
A few times, he's experienced sleep paralysis. The first, horrifying occasion is long-forgotten, when he was seven or so - it happened only after staying up until one in the morning to watch a horror movie that he'd been specifically warned not to watch and a towering vacuum of danger stood solid as stone at the end of his bed.
If it weren't for his fingertips subconsciously tracing featherlight scribes of your name on his forearm, he might reasonably assume he's haunted with the condition once again.
A clattering of paws on hard floorboards injects a little more reality into his thoughts, and he still can't bear, physically, to turn over and greet the sweet puppy you'd snuck home and surprised him with upon his arrival home from work around a year ago, knowing that his acceptance of a familiarly-shaped void is waiting just inches away.
Eventually, and after another chaotic scramble of claws in need of a cut, Chi is bouncing enthusiastically at his side and attempting an ambitious leap onto the mattress. She fails theatrically, landing in a resounding thud on her back and launching back to her feet, completely unaware of her owner's awaiting grief.
Masking his greatest fears with scooping a palm beneath Chi's belly and hauling her upwards to nestle into his chest, the reposition forces him to lay on his back (she's always detested laying on her side, especially when smothered with adoring cuddles) and, like the coward he truly is, his eyes focus adamantly on a random spot of the pale ceiling. With every minute shuffle, it becomes more and more achingly apparent that you're really not here.
And if everything runs correctly, you'll squirm and giggle graciously at his waking before returning his kiss, to his lips, this time, and he'll suggest applying a little moisturiser, like he always does, and you'll love him like you should.
When his eyelids snap open and his head curves breezily to your claimed side of the bed, he's somewhat unsurprised to confirm that his life truly has transformed to a dreadful bundle of tragedy. In your imposing place, is a neatly-made bed and an envelope.
A single, white envelope, stained by the sweet, flowing cursive that could flow only from your touch.
Chi leaps naturally to the spectacle, sniffing curiously at the letter and nudging it around a little, whilst Harry is so unexplainably pained that he's unable to move. Swallowing thickly, he's not certain word-for-word what lies in the confines of this envelope, but he does know it'll confirm your leaving him, and for some strange reason, he's relieved you left an explanation, at least.
A souvenir of you to hang onto forever, along with the millions of other items and memories of yours in his possession.
Carefully removing it from Chi's vicinity and replacing the object of her attention with a random squeaky toy that he'd discovered burrowed beneath his bed a few nights ago, he traces your exquisite handwriting with his fingertip and reads along with inaudible movements of his mouth; For Harry, mon amour.
In that moment, he realises profoundly that he'll never get to request hearing you say different words in your accent again.
The amount of times he implored relentlessly to hear je t'aime and have it accompanied with an endearing kiss is infinite.
Harry, my love,
I'm so incredibly sorry that I couldn't handle the pain.
Seeing your face cures any anguish I feel, but not this time.
I really, really tried; I know you did, too. I wanted it to work out, I prayed every day that our suffering would magically end and we could return to our love, I hoped that one day I would wake and cuddle you tightly and describe this awful nightmare I'd had.
Possibly, I may write to you in the future; please, don't try to contact me, it won't work and you know it's for the best. My family and close friends know where I am, where I will be, and they also know not to tell you if you ask.
I wish I could kiss all of your heartache away and protect you from all evil in this world, but I feel my presence is detrimental to your recovery.
My love for you is never-ending. Please be okay.
Forgive me and love someone else like you loved me. Let someone else love you like I loved you. Tellement, tellement.
Forever, I'll think of you and how unbelievably content I felt waking up next to you every day for seven-hundred and eighty (? - I'm estimating) mornings straight.
I will never, ever leave our love behind, and I adore you more than I can express. Your strength and resilience are admirable, and you are truly the best thing to ever happen to me.
Mon bébé, I miss you terribly.
Toujours, ton amour.
~
Chi tugs eagerly on her lead at the sight of the familiar entrance to her home, Harry in tow right behind. Sludgy snow muddies his shoes and soaks the hem of his jeans. His puppy's paws are undoubtedly drenched, too, but her fur is protected valiantly by her favourite jacket. He'd purchased it from a specialist store in France a year prior, and, since surprising her with the present upon his shared return, it'd become her primary option during the winter months.
Retrieving a reasonable pile of letters from his designated section, a rapid flick through displays bills, scams and all of the usual junk he usually receives. He offers his elderly neighbour a polite smile and holds open the door with his knee to construct a clear path for her exit.
He grimaces slightly at the teeth-shaped arc of damp dents into his mail - he hadn't particularly considered the repercussions of carrying it that way - and unclips Chi's lead, allowing her to run rampage through his airy apartment. Absently dropping his keys into its small dish of residence and taking a closer inspection at his post to infiltrate any wrong addresses or scams, he selects an apple from his fruit bowl and steals one firm chunk before noticing something peculiar.
Groomed eyebrows knitting together in confusion, he plucks one particular letter from the bunch and stacks it to the top. Perplexed by the sorely familiar curve of the writing scrawled on the front, his head shakes in denial - you wouldn't have, surely.
Discarding of all other mail on his kitchen counter, he's puzzled beyond belief; you'd left with no verbal warning and a letter that, admittedly, had been the source of several bouts of severe depression and, in spite of its awful affects, read dutifully every single day since your disappearance.
Rashly, he wishes you hadn't changed your phone number and email address shortly before leaving so he could possibly contact you regarding this mystery. However, he knows just as well as you clearly foresaw; his topic of discussion wouldn't be only the letter.
Tearing open the corner cautiously, he's incredibly delicate with checking inside the envelope once open to ensure it contains only his presumed note. Reviewing the front with a scouring gaze of disbelief, it really, truly has come from you.
He can't remember how many times he read each postcard that you'd gifted him with at the very beginning of your relationship. You'd recently made the permanent move from France to England, and, in a new country with limited knowledge of the native language, Harry had unintentionally become your beacon of comfort here.
With his fluent French and English, he was the perfect contender for kindly correcting your terminology and educating you on the essential etiquettes of Britain. Within weeks, however, your sweet smile had changed from an enjoyable sight during your frequent coffee shop meetings to something he craved.
He misses reading your silly, awful puns based around your home country, especially his favourite. A laughably unfunny joke paired with a matching scribble of the two of you; what do french fries do when they meet? They ketchup!
Harry,
I feel awful for waiting so long to speak to you again.
Your voice and your hugs. I've imagined them every single day.
I miss my Chi. How is she? I hope she's not missing her maman. Give her a kiss from me.
And the biggest kiss to yourself, because you deserve it, mon tout.
I'm inexplicably sorry for leaving so abruptly; I just couldn't take much more. The reminders were too much. Seeing your inconsolable pain every day was too much.
I'm so, so selfish, but I still believe allowing you to heal without my troubles was the best and easiest path for both of us.
I'm sure you noticed, but I may have stolen one of our pictures. It was your favourite, and that's why I had to choose that one, I suppose. Horrible, again.
I miss your dimples (and irritating you by poking them all the time). I miss your lips, they were so soft. No wonder you always bossed me around with the lip balm - I have my own now, I take it everywhere with me.
It smells like caramel.
Most of all, I miss your love. I've never known someone to love like you do. You were, are, and always will be, incredible.
Have you found someone to love yet?
Do you still think about me? If yes, please don't.
It's not fair of me to appear out of nowhere like this and not allow you a chance to reply. If you wish, post your letter to my maman's house - I'm not there, just to crush any other hope you have, but I'll receive it.
I'll be sorry forever, mon amour.
Sois gentil avec toi-même.
Câlins pour toujours, your baby.
~
Auriele,
I'm so thankful you decided to reach out again. I've missed you. Tellement, tellement.
Chi is brilliant, still eating everything and constantly in need of a haircut. She does miss you.
My hurt is still prevalent, I've accepted that it always will be. I truly don't believe it can be fixed again, but I'm still trying.
I spent the two weeks after your leaving searching for every single picture in existence of us. I cried so many times, I wish I could tell you that I'm wholly recovered and that you're fully forgiven, but I can't.
I think I counted them all. It's either three-hundred and seventy-seven or one-thousand, one-hundred and two (I have two sticky notes labelled pictures, I'm not sure which is correct.)
No one could ever love me like you do, tu es le meilleur.
I suppose that answers both of your questions.
Thank you for the chance to respond. I was incredibly confused when I received your thoughtful letter. I'm assuming by this one's destination being your maman's house, you're in France? You don't have to answer that. I would understand.
Mon bébé chéri, je t'aime.

~
Harry,
It was the least I could do. I hurt you doubly and you never deserved that.
Tell her I love her. Buy her an ice cream for me (note the two dollars also enclosed in this envelope!)
There aren't enough apologies in the world to properly cover the extent of my mistakes, but I'll continue gathering as many as I can. And send them straight to you.
I also wish you could truthfully claim that you're okay, and I hope, with time, that you will be. It's all you ever deserved, mon chéri. You don't ever have to forgive me. I understand entirely if you hate me.
I wouldn't be surprised if those numbers were both low counts. I loved your face, as superficial as it sounds, but it truly was prettier than anything, and my favourite thing was always surrounding myself with it. Aussi longtemps que je pouvais.
My baby, I only tried my hardest to love you, and I sincerely hope I haven't ruined your idea of love so much that I'm your standard. Please, travel, find people to connect with, fall in love with a place, if not a person.
I bet Chi would love Spain. Australia, maybe? Thailand? Your choice entirely. You always were smarter than me (i.e. I left you - doesn't get much dumber.)
I am in France, feel free to ask any question you want about my current life if you decide to write back - you really don't have to. It's okay. You're still perfect.
Just not my address. It's so selfish of me to hide away from you when you're the one who deserves closure, but I'm not ready to share that information. Again, I'm sorry, and I hope you understand.
Tu me manques. Tu me manques ma maman et mon père. Tu me manques au cœur.
All my love, Auriele x
~
Every day, his thoughts are plagued with ideas of how to write his next letter. Your previous few communications ran smoothly; you seem incredibly apologetic and, as much as he would've gladly ignored the past tense use of 'love' in your most recent letter, he can't help but realise the difference from your first each time he reads it.
He's not certain why his first letter practically poured from his pen and before he knew it, it was sealed, posted and received. This time, however, he can't even construct a way to greet you.
Has distance and time really weakened your connection that much? His favourite childhood Disney movies would be ashamed.
The heartache you've endured together is insufferable, the bitterness remaining fresh and the misery continuing to roll onwards with him, and yet, you're both still alive. Perhaps, he should be a little more thankful.
He's tested out various support groups over the past few months; they appear to help in the moment, but once he returns home to a completely empty house, - aside from Chi - he realises all of his progress to be entirely fake.
How can he realistically recover from his insurmountable loss in solitude?
An apartment which used to breathe vibrant life and excitement for the future, diminished to nothing but silence.
He might as well have lost his house, too. Every second he spends there, surrounded by reminders of his grief, is draining. Of course, if he were a millionaire, he would've discovered a lovely, one bed flat with wide, open floors and windows. If he were a millionaire, though, maybe none of this agony would've ever happened.
He could’ve fixed it.
Regardless, he didn't, and now he returns home every single day, monotonous and finding solace only in rereading your letters and running through his local park with Chi, no matter the weather.
Sometimes, he hears the faint echo of your melodious voice ringing in his ear; mon doux bébé. For a moment, he believes you may be talking to him, but with a resounding giggle of contentment, you never were.
Within a month, he lost both of his sweet baby girls, and the pain is simply too much to comprehend.
Elle, mon cœur,
Firstly, I apologize for my late reply. This letter was, for some reason, incredibly difficult to write.
You hurt me never. Life hurt me, and it hurt you, too, and I'm sorry it's so cruel.
Chi adored her ice cream - vanilla, your favourite - and said thanks! (complimentary picture attached, for you).
Sympathy and apologies aren't a cure. I've received enough of them to know. I hope you have, too. We might not accept it and it might not heal our pain, but it is nice to know you have people by your side.
Mon amour, I would/could never come close to hatred for you. You are my entire heart, and you own everything within it.
I hope, one day, I can forgive you. I hope you can forgive me. We both made mistakes. We're both accountable, and so is fate. Unfortunately, it wasn't on our side, and we have to welcome that.
Your face is certainly Top Five list of physical attributes, which goes as followed:
1. your lips. I know I complained about them being dry all the time, but I miss them, still.
2. your eyes. Somewhere between the ocean and a cottage filled with flowers, they were paradise.
3. your thighs. I am a man - a broken one, but a man nonetheless - and they are certainly the most family-friendly feature I could think of.
4. your smile. Even on my darkest days, your smile was heaven. I hope you're smiling right now. I wish I could see it.
5. your face? All of the above and everything else. Was that cheating?
I wish I could leave here. I wish I could find a small, tropic island where Chi and I can get tipsy on Virgin Mary's and surf all day, but I feel it wouldn't be fair for both of us to run.
Although, Chi would certainly have a great time in Thailand. She told me so.
Did I mention she misses you? We miss you.
I have more questions than you can imagine. This is only my second letter, however, so I suppose I'll stick to three for now, (sorry for all the lists!)
How are you? Mentally? Physically?
Have you made new friends whilst you've been out there?
Would you ever visit London again?
I miss you forever.
Ton bébé.

~
Harry,
It's more tough to write my letters than you might assume. No need to apologise, I understand.
Life is shit. I thought I had accepted that. I never imagined how evil it could be.
Chi, my baby, looks so pretty. I love her haircut (number 8694743? out of infinite).
I have heard my fair share of sympathy. At first, I felt bitter. They didn't understand what I had suffered, they didn't understand the pain I felt. With time, I realised that, sometimes, sorry is all you need to hear to feel a little better. To feel like you're managing life, at least.
I wish I could believe I deserve it, but I truly don't.
My mistakes seem perpetual. I'm constantly remembering new ones. Things I could've noticed faster, signs that I should've recognised. Yours are nothing. You made no mistakes, mon amour, please believe that. As much as fate has been my least favourite higher power for the past year, I agree about welcoming our own.
I would make a list of my personal favourites of your appearance, but I'd be here all day, and I'm meeting with a friend in an hour (your second question - check).
It wasn't fair for either of us to run. I think it's turned out for the best, however.
I can imagine Chi passed out on the beach. You both deserve a holiday. Go to Scotland, or something, at least. Just away from London.
I miss you both. Much more than I can express.
I'm well. Mentally; it's a struggle, but that's just life, I suppose. Physically; my sickness stopped a while ago. I hope your headaches did, too, but I've been searching for cures for those for a long time.
Yes! I've made quite a few close friends. They all know and love you. I'll tell them you asked.
London holds far too many memories for me to bear. You're the only one I can stand. Maybe one day.
Tellement de câlins.
Auriele.
~
The second your letter arrives and is read fully three times over, Harry's scrambling to collect his fancy paper and ink pen, thousands of ideas about how to reply brimming in his head.
Pen to paper, however, his mind is entirely blank.
You're inching closer to addressing the subject of your pain, and so is he. So far, the only discussions you've had regarding that difficult topic have ended either in awful arguments or uncontrollable, endless crying and they all occurred before your disappearance.
Since then, you've had ten months and seventeen days shared to mature from and process the situation. Perhaps, if you were to have a conversation about it now, it would be beneficial.
Harry is aware of the solution to his strange writer's block and urges to attempt to fix your hurt, but he's not quite sure if he's ready. Physically forcing himself up from his cluttered desk, he tries not to think of the main event when changing his sloppy t-shirt and joggers to jeans and a jumper; it's February, so the wind is still well and alive but, luckily for Chi and the duration of her walks, the temperatures are beginning to rise.
His destination is barely a thirty minute leisurely stroll through the city away, and he feels shameful to admit that this is his first visit in ten and a half months. Several times, he's gathered his courage to stand on the pavement, surveying the vast area but never making it closer than the protective fences.
This time, though, he's determined to make it. And he will, with je t'aime's and sweet giggles bubbling in his ears.
Your je t'aime's and her sweet giggles.
Auriele,
Life will continue to surprise us. It may be malicious, but it's also given me you, so I guess there are a few reasons to be grateful.
I think it's more like *8694744 out of infinite, and I'm sure she'll have many more unpleasant trips to the groomers in the future.
You are handling life impeccably, considering all. You deserve showers of recognition for just being here.
No one has ever been more deserving of my love, and no one ever will.
Please, don't blame yourself entirely. Yes, there were signs. Signs that we both should've seen earlier. We knew as much as everyone else. We can't know if things would be different if we'd noticed them, because they're not.
I'm glad you're enjoying life in France. Is it peaceful? Is it too far to ask if you're living with one of your new friends? What're their names, if you don't mind my asking?
If I were to go on holiday right now, Paris would be my first choice.
I'm glad you're feeling better, I hope you continue to improve mentally in the future. I wish you nothing but true happiness.
If you're ever here, I'd be honoured to see you again.
This might surprise you. Before I wrote this letter, I went to visit her.
I haven't since we were there together.
I talked to her for hours about my life and my pain and your letters and your pain and anything I'd love to say to you if I knew how. Meline always was the best listener, no offence to you. She just understands.
I miss her. I miss you. I miss my babies.
Please, send me a picture of you (always topping lists) in your next letter. I need to see you now. I bet you're glowing.
Toujours, Harry x
~
Harry, mon amour,
I feel as if I should address the end of your letter first, because I certainly wasn't expecting it. I cried a lot. I'm still crying as I write this.
It feels nice to feel.
I've been so numb to it all. I know I should sob every day, think of her every single second. I don't. That may make me an awful person, but I always preferred not to lie. Especially to you. I don't think the gravity has quite hit me yet.
Back to the normal, top to bottom of your letter.
My family is a gift. My parents, you and Meline, specifically. I've never admired anyone more.
I miss Chi. Especially today, for some reason. Send more pictures of her when you next write. (I enclosed an updated picture of me in town, if you hadn't noticed! It was taken last week.)
I had concerns. Concerns that I didn't follow up on. We knew something was wrong, but we did everything we could, right? We found help. We found medicine. Why didn't it work?
How fucking cruel can life possibly be?
It's much quieter than London. The air quality is visibly better. I am, actually. My closest friends are Leon and Aline. I'm living with them!
Paris is about as good a holiday as you can get. If I'm ever near you, whatever country it happens to be in, I'll be sure to see you.
The last part of your letter. I already touched upon it but not nearly enough.
I haven't said, heard or read her name in eleven months. I miss it. I miss your voice. And her laughs. She was so, so lively and enthusiastic for life.
It's so unfair that she didn't get the chance.
And I agree; she always was a fantastic listener. I told her about our issues more than I should've.
I wish I could hear her again. Her name wasn't Meline Risette Styles for nothing. Her laughs were so pretty. I could've listened on repeat.
I did. For a year.
I miss her.
I miss you. I miss your warmth. I miss your heart and your love and your smile and everything about you.
I miss normality.
When we thought things would be okay.
We were wrong, and hindsight, that's okay, too.
We will heal eventually, I trust that life can't take much more away from me.
Tout mon amour, Auriele x
~
Since that day, Harry's visited Meline every Sunday without fail - it's only been three weeks, but going in the first place was an unimaginable step.
He even combined Chi's walk with the most recent, and each time, entering, staying at and emerging from the cemetery becomes easier.
The first time, he paced through the gates several times before building the bravery to even step inside without running back. His flight or fight instinct had been touchy the whole time, bias towards flight the entire time.
He just wanted to be as far away from the source of his pain as possible.
At the same time, he just wanted his daughter back. Alive and healthy.
Once he'd settled, laid on the ground like a madman next to her grave, he never wanted to leave her again. He even brought her flowers and a little teddy bear from a shop he'd passed on his hurried journey there.
It was well and truly dark by the time he even considered returning home, because he'd rather be with his sweet baby than alone at home.
Now, Chi sniffs inquisitively around at the bundles of flowers placed on surrounding graves whilst Harry converses with his dead child's grave like she was as animated and eager as he remembered.
It's a little questionable for his sanity, but extremely helpful for his own mental health. And he's trying to fix them both.
He just wishes so much that he'd pushed for more tests in the hospital. If he could, he'd reject their diagnosis and prescription of heart medication and an inhaler for when her asthma flared up.
They claimed she had a weakened respiratory system and, subsequently, her heart didn't deal well under stress, mostly due to her premature birth.
They were correct.
However, they were entirely wrong when they sent you all home with a tub of medicine and advice to lower any potential stressors around her.
Harry remembers scoffing to himself; she was one, what could possibly be stressing her that much?
Apparently, a lot of things.
Your je t'aime's and her sweet giggles.
There's truly nothing better.
Auriele,
I understand completely about any emotion feeling refreshing. For a while, I felt immune to it. I cried and I got angry, but nothing ever really set in.
I'm thankful that I can feel now and it doesn't destroy me.
You're not at all a bad person, or a bad parent. Often, I wish I could forget about her. And not just to remove the pain for a day or two. Also, I appreciate the honesty.
Important things must be talked about first. And while this paragraph isn't quite at the top of my letter, it certainly is my most admiritive.
You're so, so unbelievably beautiful. Even more so, now.
Your eyes are still paradise. That picture is stuck onto the cork board in the kitchen forever.
We did absolutely everything in our power to help our baby. As soon as we noticed an issue, we took her to the hospital. Maybe they accidentally underestimated her condition, maybe they just assumed it'd be treated with that medication.
Either way, we helped her as much as we could. And you were, are, and always will be the most incredible mother.
Meline was lucky, truly. She loved you so much.
As it turns out, life can be our greatest enemy. It's difficult to control and even harder to accept, but everything happens for a reason, I suppose.
Leon and Aline sound wonderful. I know it's not my place, but tell them I said thank you for being there for you? You don't have to.
I've never known someone deserve a full, healthy life more than our sweet girl, and it's an injustice to steal that opportunity from her at such a young age.
She would've been two next week. I'm sure you don't need reminding, but I'm still trying to handle my feelings about it. I already know her birthday is going to be the worst day since she died.
Meline Risette Styles deserves the world, as do you. Please don't be afraid to take it. You've earned it.
Her name still brings me so much joy; little honey, pleasant little laugh. It was such an apt description, in her short life.
Life can always take more, but it gives things that are so wonderful. Sois optimiste.
Tout mon amour et câlins, Harry x

Inuyasha Sequel: a rant
Put this up this earlier on a post I re-blogged, tried to edit a part or two where I didn’t like the way I had phrased it, and ended up messing up the whole format I wrote this in. Luckily I wrote this as a draft earlier anyways! So I did a some fixing and now I’m just copy-pasting it again and making it a text post instead. This will be very long and a little nit-picky but I wanted to make a post ever since I heard about the upcoming sequel to Inuyasha, Hanyō no Yashahime. I did put a TLDR at the end for those who don’t want to read everything. Not sure how many people in the fandom still follow me and will see this, as it's been a long time since I was actually active in the fandom, but it's hands-down both my favorite manga and anime of all time and I’ve been feeling nostalgic lately so I had to post something. Before reading this be sure to read all of the translated character bios for Towa, Setsuna, and Moroha so that this makes sense.
When I first heard that Inuyasha would be getting a sequel I was excited! But after reading up on it, to be completely honest I'm not feeling this sequel anymore. I know it’s an unpopular opinion but hear me out. Firstly, it seems like Rumiko is mostly involved in the character design aspect and the writing is up to Katsuyuki Sumisawa. The music will be produced by Kaoru Wada which is great! And from what I’ve seen and read online a number of others who worked on the original series will reunite so hopefully the story will go well. However, knowing Rumiko isn't personally writing and not knowing how much input she has or will give makes me unsure about watching. The original Inuyasha anime followed and was based off of the events in the manga, and there was no manga prior to this for it to be based on. Depending on what happens this could be an alright sequel or a total miss. Unfortunately sequels in general are known to be disappointing in some way.
Secondly, if I hear anything about Rin being the mother of Sesshomaru's twin daughters I'm out. This part will be a SUPER long and in depth explanation on why I think this way, feel free to skip if you're not interested. Please don't come for me on this, I'm here to explain my thoughts and feelings on the sequel and the theories around it so far, not start an argument. I'm more than aware that there's plenty of controversy out there on this pairing and personally I do not support it. I never saw their relationship as more than a friendship, or something akin to child and guardian as Sesshomaru and Jaken are basically Rin's caretakers up until she goes to live in the village with Kaede. He definitely cares for her deeply but I can't see it in a romantic way, being that Sesshomaru isn't even a character focused on romance to begin with. He learns compassion through Rin's second death but that doesn't mean he loves her romantically. As a reminder his main goal is to seek power and be powerful, and it's stated that he needed to learn compassion and grief in order to mature. It's what helped him learn to wield the Tenseiga at its full potential. In addition, she was really young when they first met and still was when she went to live with Kaede. The idea of Sesshomaru (an adult) having romantic feelings for a kid under ten years old (around eleven at the end of the series, and still a literal child in all ways) and waiting for her to age with the intention of marrying her sits totally wrong with me. Age wise I realize that Inuyasha is decades older than Kagome and that his father was much older than his mother, Izayoi, as well. The difference here is that Kagome was a teen when she met Inuyasha (who not just physically, but more importantly mentally was also a teen) and clearly Izayoi was old enough to conceive Inuyasha and give birth. As far as the audio dramas (more specifically "Asatte") go they're generally considered as an outtake reel and are essentially parodies, or a form of satire. Some will debate on this but realistically there’s plenty of reasons this is true, and those who take the time to properly check them out understand that. For me I've always had a headcanon that at some point in her teen years Rin would inevitably develop a one-sided crush on Sesshomaru and that he would ultimately set boundaries and reject her, seeing her as more of a close companion than a love interest and wanting her to live with someone she can grow old with. He gave her the choice to follow him and it's most likely that she would, but I think that once she began aging he would want her to have somewhere to settle, given that he enjoys roaming and seeking out other powerful beings to battle. It's strange to me that they decided to give Sesshomaru hanyō/half-demon children in general but based on the artwork we've seen it's fair to guess that they might have made Sesshomaru and Rin a pairing in this sequel.
IMPORTANT NOTE: I want to clarify that if you ship them together I'm not writing this here because I want to hate on your ship for no reason, or in order to create an argument on if the pairing makes sense, these are my thoughts and opinions on the matter and I’m voicing them because it’s what I believe. I already know that somebody won’t like this and will take it personally. People usually say that once Rin is an adult the pairing is acceptable but I disagree. I find it quite creepy that someone would think it would be alright for an adult to wait around for a kid to grow up with the intention to marry and/or sleep with them. Watching from a distance is the same exact thing, after making an impression on the child... let’s not normalize this. In this situation it would be grooming. We all have our own opinions when it comes to our ships and fandoms and I try to respect that but I can’t get behind this one.
Next we have the apparent lack of parental figures for the heroines. Where are the original Inuyasha characters at? Moroha's character bio says she barely knows her parents (Inuyasha and Kagome, our former main protagonists) and has been alone since she was young! It makes me think either something has happened to them or some kind of bizarre event separated them. And sorry, not related, but why does she transform by PUTTING LIPSTICK ON?? That part threw me for a loop.
When it comes to Setsuna and Towa their parents are absent too. I find it difficult to believe that Sesshomaru wouldn't keep track of his children given how he treats Rin and reacts to her going missing in any capacity. Especially if he happened to be fond of whoever their mother is. One daughter works as a taijiya/demon slayer for Kohaku and the other mysteriously transports to Kagome's era and is raised by Sota (I thought we had finished with the time jumps when the well closed but apparently not. When the Bone Eater's Well closed after Kagome's return it gave a sense of finality and closure to the story, and showed that Kagome had chosen where she was most happy and felt she belonged. I think that bringing the theme of time travel back into the sequel makes it feel repetitive, like something right out of a predictable fanfic. Props to Sota for taking in and raising a child who showed up out of nowhere though).
Another thing that came to mind when I read these character bios was why Inuyasha and Kagome's daughter and Sesshomaru's daughters are the exact same age. Of course there's nothing wrong with that. It only struck me as odd because suddenly everyone is having kids at the same time. And so far there's no mention of other characters like Sango, Miroku, Shippo, Jaken, Kaede, or Miroku or Sango's three children or where they are. One might expect that a story focused on the children of some of the original Inuyasha's main characters would feature appearances from those who had important roles in the previous series and their children. Which brings me around to wondering what made twin daughters a trend? Two sets of twin girls is a unique choice (Sango and Miroku's twin daughters. For such a small group of parental characters, what are the odds of two sets of twin girls? Where is the creativity and again why the repetition?).
Lastly, Sesshomaru's daughters lack some of the common yōkai/demon characteristics we see on Inuyasha and other characters. Their ears are human, and they have no markings or otherwise (that I noticed) with the exception of Setsuna's mokomoko/fur which is similar to Sesshomaru's. So perhaps they take more after their human mother? Given that Inuyasha seemed to inherit strong genes from his father it's interesting that they did not. Their ages also interest me as they appear to age the same way as humans do. Yōkai/demons are known to have a longer lifespan than humans and appear to slow down or almost stop aging at some point. Perhaps this confirms that the slowdown in aging occurs once they reach the equivalent of a human teen?
Overall Inuyasha was a fantastic manga and great anime on its own, and I never got the feeling that it needed a sequel. As a stand-alone it was everything it needed to be. I thoroughly enjoyed both formats of the original, though I do have a tendency to disregard certain parts of the anime. I always preferred the manga more when the anime dragged out certain scenes (Shichinintai/Band of Seven arc for example) or straight-up excluded, changed, and added others. Taking that into consideration the sequel might end up being the same for me in that way, but rather than one scene that plays out for too long or an excluded, altered, or unnecessary added scene, if it’s not any good I’ll simply disregard it altogether. When the anime comes out I certainly plan to try watching it out of loyalty to the fandom, and due to the fact that it's "technically" canon (without Rumiko being the writer I don't necessarily consider it canon, much like how some folks do or do not consider the movies canon) but I get the feeling that I'll wind up giving up on it in disappointment.
TLDR; Overall I'm left questioning if the sequel is worth watching (for me) given what I've read and heard so far, but nonetheless I will give it an optimistic try! I'm currently wondering how much we'll see of the original Inuyasha characters, if we get to find out what happened to them, if the number one pairing I'm not fond of will make an appearance (and cause me to drop the whole thing), and questioning parts of the character backstories and designs (why is there a repetitive and recurring theme of time travel and does it end up hindering or ruining the story, why do the protagonists all lack parents, and why do the hanyō/half-demon characters lack common yōkai/demon traits and does it make them more human than demon?).
