Let’s begin!

Calls his partner “Angel” or “Love”. But will come up with outrageous names to annoy you too.

Makes his loved ones custom ducks. And he gets really nervous showing you the finished product.

“So uhhh… I made this one for you.” He said quite nervously as he gave you your duck. “Oh it’s lovely Lucifer… thank you so much.”.

He looked at you flabbergasted “Wait really?! You like it…?”. You just chuckled “Of course I do!”

You were there for him when Lilith left him. He was so down but you cheered him up.

When Lucifer and Alastor had their little sing session he was so happy that you sided with him and not that red deer guy.

He thinks it’s adorable that you get along with Charlie. He loves the way you care about her, and believe in her dreams.

Besides his “calm” personality he gets quite protective over time. When he notices you get hurt by something/someone he is immediately there you care for you.

He makes unhinged comments and jokes without even noticing that they’re out of place sometimes.

Ever since angel called him a “Short king” the term has stuck with him. He casually calls himself that as well.

He tries to learn more slang from the other residents and tries them out on you… “You serve *snaps fingers*… the outfit slaps ngl.” You just laughed your ass off due to his stiff voice and lack of feeling.

He enjoys basin and cooking a lot. He prefers to have you as a helper.

He’s a ambivert who’s pretty good at masking. Not many people notice when he’s exhausted.

Definitely a hopeless romantic. He WILL take you on a date with roses and jazz in the background. And if everything goes well he maybe even take you to his place?

He likes to get dominated but he also loves to dominate. Whatever you’re up to actually, he’ll just go along with it.

Groans overall but whimpers and whines when he’s close.

When you ride on top of him he digs his fingers into your sides and it gets firmer and stronger as he finishes.

He is definitely very weak in the way that he can’t hold in for long. You do one right move and he’s cumming fast.

He also enjoys bondage very much. He’d fuck you while you hand from the roof with a gag in your mouth. In combo with a blindfold? Seeing you drool? He finishes faster than you can say “Bow chika bow bow.”

He gets nervous if you two make eye contact for too long. He’d laugh it off though saying it’s no big deal for him.

So so done with life sometimes he just drinks 3 black coffees in the span of 3 hours.

He easily gets distracted by literally anything and everything. Also procrastinates a lot.

He loves hugs from the back. And hugs in general make him feel so loved by you.

His love languages are Physical Touch and Acts of Service. You making him breakfast and cuddles afterwards? He’s straight up in love.

“You made this all for me love…? Wow that’s so amazing thank you so so much…” he gets stressed easily so seeing how much you care for him makes him tear up.

Kaishin secret santa 2023

Random details and notes that don't really fit anywhere. Mostly about the fanart:

Kaito is 1 year older than Shin and is taller than him

This scene is set over the Haido City hotel. In the distance you can see Shiriyomi Trust Hotel (can't full recognise it behind Kaito but I assure you I drew it lol), Tokyo tower (easy to spot) and Roppongi Hills Mori Tower (Just behind Shin on the right, the one with the lights in a --u-- shape) Main reference: https://www.detectiveconanworld.com/wiki/Haido_City_Hotel

I was also screaming at the Kaishin pic in ED70 throughout this LMAO.

Kaito breaks through Shinichi's mysterious KID persona in this drawing and Shinichi shyly reveals his face behind the mask. Kaito then produces a blue flower, claiming it matches Shinichi's beautiful eyes (he's also the one who bred it)

Kaito has extra pockets sewn into his uniform to carry more tricks. This wasn't really necessary in canon, but here, Kaito has to be prepared to investigate at any moment.

Lmao help me render hair *stares at Kaito's* Cool effect but not quite right. I need to go experiment later.

Kaito/Shin getting shrunk (aka Conan situation) never happens in this au. But Haibara and the other victims are still around. Haibara still lives at the professor's.

Background:

Yusaku was much more entangled and involved with Toichi and his fight with the Black Org. Side note but in this au, Snake is from a division of the Black Org

As a result, they both end up being killed during the fateful accident. Yes, both Shinichi and Kaito are there for it. They were going to be introduced to each other on that day, but well,,, we can see the way it ended.

It wasn't well known that the Kuroba and Kudo family were close at all. Extra vigilance was taken after the funerals to ensure their safety. Their families parted ways for the better or worse after thsi event.

Yusaku's and Toichi's friendship/rivalry included collaborating for some heists, having a second secret base in the Kudo mansion, and Yusaku donning the Night Baron costume... even if he was just hidden in a car and sending information to Toichi via an earpiece lol.

After their husbands' deaths, Yukiko and Chikage meet up occasionally and travel together in secret.

Shinichi:

Shinichi never became a famous detective. The years after Yusaku died in the tragic accident, Yukiko and him tried their best to move on with varying success. Shinichi's dream to become a famous detective never came to fruition.

This was because for various reasons including not having Yusaku's guiding hand to develop Shin's detective skills, was only being taken to crime scenes for a year, and of course the trauma.

After avoiding detective work as much as he could (well considering that he's still a corpse magnet), Shinichi finally starts to dig through his memories. From then, he uncovered a strange inconsistency with the logic of his father's death and starts to obsess over the idea that it was a murder.

Shin painstakingly and slowly investigates in the shadows with his *ehem* admittedly rusty detective skills and chases after the very little crumbs left by the organisation. What he uncovers is that the accident wasn't one at all, but premeditated murder by an encompassing third party.

Shinichi finally finds a lead to,,, Jii Konosuke. This takes quite a few years, and Shinichi is 15 when he confronts Jii.

Jii reveals everything after Shinichi's deduction and also mistaking him for Kaito. And such Shinichi is brought into the fold. Shinichi also makes up his mind to take on the KID mantle, greatly sympathising with the fellow teen whose father was also involved.

The years after Shinichi uncovers the truth, he learns many skills such as disguise, acting and magic from Jii and Chikage. However, his magic skills will never be on par with Kaito's.

Shinichi in this au has more acting and disguise skills from living with his mother. She passed this skills onto him, and they bonded over it to recover from their grief.

When Shinichi is 17, he officially takes on the role of KID. Chikage permanently locked the KID cave in the Kuroba house, and the KID cave settled in its new home in the Kudo mansion. Inside the second base previously used by Toichi and Yusaku.

Shinichi as KID:

Well, he's just as dramatic as Kaito in canon, but it's a different kind of dramatic. Shin is more of a mysterious and cryptic phantom thief and wears a menacing Night Baron mask. He overall speaks less, and when he does, he says a lot of dramatic lines. Like in theatre almost, with plenty of double meanings.

He takes on a lot of aspects from the Phantom Lady and Jii's interpretation of KID.

And also, I was inspired by the Black Knight, Shiragami in canon, and AngelicSentinel's fantastic fic, Heart of Eternity. I guess you could describe it as more theatrely, cool and princely. He's still very athletic (laughing at Shinichi being Tarzan as Shiragami)

Unlike Kaito, Shin's notices often involve cryptic riddles. It satisfies Shinichi's puzzle loving side and adds to his mysterious reputation.

It's funny to me how Akako's 'Demon of Light' moniker is still accurate haha

Shinichi investigates a little in the shadows and is overall a touch more hot-headed than Kaito KID

He uses a lot more gadgets to cover for his lesser magic skills. He's still learning though! A lot of them are references to Conan's and KID's in canon. Between Jii and Agasa, he gets a lot of them haha. This includes:

Mask/monocle -> voice changer, mask to cover for poker face, zoom and night vision, tracker, microphone and radio, gas mask.

Transmitter/microphone -> button stickers, bugs in general, cufflinks. In some cases, a camera but it must be asked for first. Shin uses these to cover for Kaito's doves in canon.

Wristwatch -> Clock of course for his heist times, tranquilliser, emergency flashbomb (KID has one in canon too)

Shoes -> jet powered rollerskates (equivalent to skateboard). Of course, Shin still kicks things but it looks more to take down the occasional criminal, trigger emergency traps, and more. He doesn't kick often because it doesn't really suit the image of KID + it's a unique skill to have.

+ other usual KID gadgets -> smoke, flash, sleeping bombs, grapple gun, hang glider, etc.

Kaito:

He's still an aspiring magician

Since there's a rising amount of cases in Beika, Kaito gets recommended by Nakamori because of his magic skills. The idea is that his knowledge of magic tricks will help uncover the criminals' tricks... Well this includes basically all cases lol. It works though! And the news of Meitantei Kaito starts to spread.

Kaito falls in love with the dramatics and triumphs of figuring out a criminal's trick. He starts to get called into Beika every time a case is discovered. One different to Shin is that Kai gets called to the cases instead of the cases coming to him.

His detective persona is like KID's in canon - flirty, dramatic, confident, charming, a bit of a pervert, and a classic showman's personality. Aoko is sick of it hahaha.

Kai's deduction show is very dramatic. He uses flashy magic tricks to reveal evidence and tricks, and uses his magic to take down criminals.

This includes his acrobatics, trusty card gun and traps he set beforehand. I like to headcanon that Kaito invented his cardgun first before integrating into KID. Kaito's cardgun includes the normal sharp cards (Kaito uses it to pin down criminals with their clothes, cut ropes, etc), tranquilliser laced cards, smoke and flash bombs. And also sleeping bombs but he uses it vary sparingly because even that toes the law a little too much... Megure is exasperated but the criminals are taken down quickly without much harm so he lets it slide

Kaito also follows in the spirit of dubious investigation. He changes his voice, uses his doves to spy on others, uses disguises (very very rarely), and is noisy overall.

Kaito and Hakuba:

Has a detective rivalry with Hakuba.

Hakuba still thinks, even in this au, that Kaito is KID. After all, Shin's profile is very similar to Kaito's. Kaito vehemently denies it but acts like a KID fan around Hakuba to annoy him. He isn't really though, citing KID's magic to be third rate, but he is still intrigued.

Hakuba offhandedly slips in wording and insinuations to Kaito's huge annoyance. You can imagine them bickering at a crime scene while Megure is just Too Used to this.

Much later on, when Kaito learns Shinichi's identity, Kaito tells Shinichi's about Hakuba's warnings. So Kaito is kinda a messenger between the two. Despite Hakuba being annoying, Kaito knows he can trust him.

~ Other character interactions:

Shinichi and Kaito:

Shinichi is still a corpse magnet. So he encounters a case, calls the police, and escapes as fast as he can after giving a witness statement. This is partly to avoid the awkwardness of meeting Megure and the police officers (he hasn't met them since his father died), as well as his new night job.

This results in the most frustrating yet amusing situation where Shin and Kaito miss meeting each other for quite a few years. Shinichi is busy hurrying off while Kaito is called to the scene and busy listening to the details.

Quick sketch I may/may not fully finish in the future:

Description: Set in suburban Beika. Shinichi is at the foreground, looking at his watch and worrying about meeting Jii on time. Meanwhile, next to a police car, Megure merrily discusses case details to Kaito. Kaito is glancing over to Shinichi in curiosity while keeping an ear open. He has his hands in his pockets. Behind Megure, the scene has police tape barring entrance.

Kaito thinks KID is a third rate magician but can appreciate the dramatics and mysteriousness. He is Intrigued. This leads to a meeting later on. Kaito uses his connection to Nakamori.

Shinichi is of course startled by Kaito's namedrop.

... Sorry no more details/plan about their meeting. It's definitely a dramatic face off though.

Regarding Shinichi's identity reveal, I was playing around with the idea that Snake is there, threatening the two at gunpoint and sneering over the '"lovely family reunion between father and son". It would definitely spur Kaito to grill Shin for more details

Shinichi and Hattori:

Hattori hears about the "Meitantei of the East" and goes off to meet him and challenge him to a deduction battle. He doesn't know how to contact him, so he goes with the strat of wandering around Beika until he runs into a case. He figured that with the high rate of cases being reported, he's eventually run into Kuroba ,,, yeah hahahaha Thats his entire plan

Luckily for Hattori, his detective luck exponentially multiplies with Shin's and a scream runs out. As Shinichi is reporting the crime and tried to head off, Hattori slings an arm around his shoulders to stop him from sneaking off.

Hattori loudly greets him as Kuroba despite Shinichi's insistence that "No, I am NOT Kuroba, please get your arm off me". Insert much scepticism from Hattori.

Even after they part ways, this isn't the last they see of each other. Hattori keeps wandering around Beika while running into Shinichi. They eventually become friends huhu.

Shinichi and the Detective Boys:

The Detective Boys admire Kaito a lot. Obviously they've watched the news reports on TV. So when they see him at the park playing soccer, they glomp him HAHAH Poor Shinichi

At this point I think people mistaking Shinichi as Kaito can be a running gag. The Detective Boys keep annoying Shinichi and even attempt breaking into the 'Edo house' to see the ghosts... Shinichi is still not happy. And also, when they visit Haibara, they're basically next doors so Shinichi's never going to get them out of his life.

Despite the annoyance, he eventually becomes fond of them and takes on the big brother sort of role.

When Kaito and Shinichi get acquainted, they take the DB on outings a lot. The DB is very fond of Kaito-nii-san and Shinichi-nii-san.

Nimona appreciation post Part 5

Hi Guys, it's me again. The last weeks were a bit stressful, but hey, know I got my drivers license (I'm a bit old to do it now, but welp, never really needed it) ^^ Anyway, let's go right in with part 5 :)

- starting the next part and the first thing I'm hearing is Todd, greeaaatt (not) - nice that Mansley has a guest appearance - and Todd being an immature child right after trying to be mature, not surprising… it's kinda funny how he says butt tbh - the dialog of the knights in the background also is kinda fun, especially that "so sad though" - aaand, now the knights in the background already start accusing of Amb helping Bal, which got me really feeling like he also wasn't liked by the knights that much - liking the look on the directors face when she looks up to see the giant whale-shaped hole - nice that they clarify it, that the showers are destroyed (I just like little comedy-quibs like that, which you don't entirely expect) - Amb being in the literal spotlight while Todd accuses him of workingwith/helping Bal - Rhinos will now forever be big fat unicorns to me, change my mind - that emphasis on "common" in common children makes me feel like the director (and the institute for that matter) see commoners as less than them or not even really as humans - no way, Todd was born?? (don't know if that's a dig on the guy who wrote that dialog or if it's probs for howing how dumb Todd is lol) - ngl, that Todd doesn't say "one" when he say there are two things he wants and then omitting the two entirely triggers me everytime… like: my guy, count correct or not at all - also his sword doesn't look that big tbh - you can literally see the moment Amb decides to be the boss of the hunt on Bal, when Todd says he's gonna make it hurt - Todd being all like: yeah, yeah, you're not gonna get that role and the director being blinded enough by her little blood purity thing that she literally glosses over the fact that everyone there prob knows he and Bal were very close - Nimona doesn't do "drawing no attention" - that poor mouse btw, it's gotta get a heart attack any second - love the "I was going for the hurting people version" - "Buh! I'm a ghost." lol and it works to not draw the attention of the guy walking past lol - Love the line delivery right after the ghost part and Nims slap to his face as a reaction lol - "unclench your mustache" is now one of my favourite sayings when someone is behaving as if he/she has a stick in their butt - she had to ask what the worst that could happen would be - the attack wasn't bad enough to be called horrific, was it? - love that she again tries to let Bal question the stuff he learned from the institute - he thinks like two seconds about her "Soo, maybe there's nothing there." and you can see for a split second how he slips before he irons himself out and gets back in his brainwashed "knowledge" - love how she looks a bit sad there when he tell her no wings he will want them later 100%

Soo, that was a short one again. Next one will come out this weekend, promise. Until then, bye bye :)

I know that most Dick/Jason stories are mainly set in post crisis, but what about an au set in pre crisis continuity (blonde circus kid Jason)? DickJay bonding over their similar backgrounds, Jason reminding Dick so much of lost memories of the circus, memories that he tucked away to deal with the grief over his parents' death, with Dick unknowingly falling for Jason first after spending time with him and how he feels so conflicted about it given their age difference, the guilt he feels from the death of Jay's parents and how he initially wanted to take a more parental place in Jay's life. It's just that Dick did not expect to feel this way about the kid, and he hates himself because he thinks it's inappropriate and disgusting. So Dick distances himself, less visits to the manor, less communication with Jason, and even during Jay's occasional run with the Titans Dick hardly speaks with him. Jay and the rest of the Titans notices but when he confronts Dick about it it turns into an argument and both parted in anger.

Then the next time they meet it's either Dick on his knees crying in front of Jason's grave or Dick at the side of Jay's hospital bed looking over a comatose Jason (cause I love suffering).

Ngl, the idea started with me suddenly obsessing over Zendaya and Zac Efron's Rewrite the Stars scene in The Greatest Showman and I just can't help imagining Dick and Jason in their place. I could just imagine Dick first realizing his feelings when he's swinging around with Jason, everything seems to be going in slow motion and it's like there's only the two of them in the entire world, and his blue eyes focused on Jay's face, appreciating the blonde lashes, the precious smile and the unadulterated look of joy. And Dick thinks to himself that giving Robin to Jason, has become more than just making up for the guilt he felt over the death of the Todds, Jason has become what Robin should be, a light in the dark, the hope in the time of despair and the beacon of everything good and right in the world. And Jason, to Dick, is just that.

Oh goodness, this was a harrowing adventure of a read. My heart simultaneously feels all the warm and tormented feels. ;U; Thank you so much for sharing, anon! I'm one of the many that goes the post-crisis route with Jason, but this is really sweet!!

Fair warning coming from after writing this, but idk how this version of events goes to tie it into everything and I unwittingly went the usual post-crisis route omggggg I think I've clowned myself I'm so sorry I need to read some comics ahhhhhh

Jumping in at the ending point of the above -- but Jason either resurrecting or coming out of that coma and being so damn frustrated with Dick. Just that upset from before carrying over on top of Jason being distraught because of everything that happened.

Because Jason cried for Dick when Jason was dying, but Dick wasn't there. He stopped being there, but now he's here (at Jason's beside when Jason wakes/at Jason's grave when Jason disturbs the ground of his plot and Dick helps him dig and pulls Jason out and into his arms and won't let go and--) and what the fuck is it that he wants? Choose.

But also, what the fuck did Jason do so wrong? He thought he would or did die and all Jason could fixate on was where he fucked up with them.

And Jason has all the pent up, frustrated tears because, 'I love you,' and Dick must have known and hated it. Only Jason loves him still, so hate him/leave him because Jason can't stop.

It's such a heartbreaking and sincere confession and for once Dick's mind is quiet, no doubts or insecurities -- just a heart full of hope and his body moving all its own to grab Jason and pull him close and kiss him like Dick has wanted to do for ages and ;3;

Reason comes back to him at some point, obviously. They're concerns Jason gives due consideration if only because Dick is trusting him with some heavy insecurities and communication/trust is something they're actively working on after everything, but at the same time? Jason will call Dick 'daddy' if he wants and Dick dies a bit because 'too soon,' ahahahaha.

I've got a whole series where Jason becomes the Robin Dick lost along the way and more importantly needs (in the sense of Dick lost his own light/hope/ability to see most good and right things in the world during his time as Robin but finds it in Jason over time --- also with Dick cherishing that dearly and it healing some wounded part of himself so he's more him), well. We've got similarly corny taste in this regard so no need to apologize, I'm having a great time hahaha.

Zhongli Witch - Qinshihuang

The antique witch. His nature is torpor. Everything, no matter how seemingly indestructible will eventually become dust. That is something this witch is painfully aware of. Within his barrier, time does not pass and the many antiques and treasures within will remain gleaming forevermore. The witch detests any form of change as it is a sign that time will tick forward once more and threaten his collection. If he senses an intruder, he will stop at nothing to hunt them down and swiftly petrify them. When this witch perishes, everything in the barrier will become dust.

Rukkadevata - Uma

The witch of hanging gardens. Her nature is samudaya*. A benevolent and caring witch, she spends every waking hour building a paradise upon the ever growing tree that makes up her body. She collects knowledge via digging her roots into the subconscious minds of her victims and uses them to improve her heaven on earth, although leaving her victims husks if their former selves. If someone were to wander into her barrier, she would show them a dream tailored to the needs and wants of the person. Many people have willingly let themselves be painlessly consumed by this witch to eternally live in their specially made paradises.

Makoto - Ohirume

The witch of tempests. Her nature is nanakorobi-yaoki*. A witch who only has one goal planted in her head: make it back home. Despite the deathly storm that mercilessly ravages her barrier, this witch continues to trudge forward in the hollow hope that one day she will be able to return home. Her raincoat has thinned, her umbrella is just wires, and she is almost nothing but bones, but she continues to wander her stormy barrier for eternity fated to never find her way home. When the witch dies, the storm clears up and in the distance you can see the faint outline of a house.

*means “arising” and refers to the roots of suffering

*means to “fall seven times and get up eight”; perseverance

The way torpor also has the meaning of apathy, and yet Zhongli clings onto so much that he'd try to destroy anything that would cause them to even slightly degrade through change

Also if you don't mind me adding on- I'm imagining him having familiars made from pressed flowers that keep the labyrinth in pristine condition, resembling the 3 people he couldn't protect and lost to witches (the 4/5 Yakshas aren't included because they're all as fine as they could be throughout the au <3)

Something about pressed flowers being dead flowers (or leaves in Retuo's case) being preserved

Oh and imagine if his labyrinth looks like a mix of the floating parts of Enkanomiya and the Floating Abode Serenitea Pot layout, but everything is completely frozen like the Orchard of Paridaeza. There'd be a bunch of trinkets and paintings but all are slightly warped in a way

Anyway, I could also see Rukkha's labyrinth also being made of pressed flowers and painted skeletonized leaves in the background while the entire "roof" is made from her hair with some hanging ornaments. Thinking about her witch form being almost as big, if not bigger than Venti's. She could also have her familiars being made from her own body like him, except she keeps expanding using hers while Venti slowly disintegrates when creating his

Honestly, the witches really feel like they could very much happen

Like, I've briefly considered Zhongli having a similar situation to Homura in this post instead of Istaroth. Not outright a witch but there are Signs and stuff. I could very much see him turning into Qinshihuang ngl

Rukkha could've become one either after Deshret died or if she hadn't gone through with her plan on destroying her soul gem while fighting Venti. The way Uma keeps building a paradise could be related to her wanting things to have gone differently with Deshret and Nabu, and if we go to the Venti route, it's her final thought about wanting her little sister Nahida to be born into a gentler world that affects her witch form.

If we go by the events in the AU tho, it's more likely to happen if Venti hadn't killed her first. It's a slow build up from the week's events, like she literally watched Venti straight up drop dead in front of her, found out where witches came from, and had to force herself to keep it together while they dealt with the situation for days

Your description for her labyrinth and witch form made me imagine one made of tear stains and water damage and ink blots, perhaps even over a nonsensical map. Her obsession with going home could be her trying to get back to Ei. There's also faint whispers through the storm where one could hear faint murmurs about going home and "I'm all she has left"

Ngl, when they said that Ellen Pompeo’s role would be even more minimized, I was really pissed. Because her role has already been minimized for two seasons now.

But I’m really digging this new direction? The soft reboot feel of it is refreshing.

It’s been bothering me for, what, five or so seasons probably more, that the new interns were interchangable nameless figures.

Schmitt, Nico and Taryn are honestly the only memorable ones from the last half-decade? There were others that I wanted to care about, but they never really... got important. They barely had speaking roles, had no noteworthy relationships among themselves. Most weren’t worth remembering their name.

So this soft reboot approach of actually making it about the interns? Giving them personality, background, a dynamic among themselves?

Especially that call-back of them all sprawled out on the beds. The major MAGIC vibes that gave me.

So if Ellen’s role is being reduced because she becomes the Richard of early Grey’s Anatomy? I think I might actually be fine with that. With her as a guiding but not central presence, while the focus is on the young doctors again.

1. Personal Interpretation Rosepetal. I headcanon that Daisy has pretty strong Ragdoll genes and is pointed, and that carries over to both of her cream colored kiddos, Berrynose and Rosepetal. I like to think that Berrynose is pretty short and stocky like his mama, Hazeltail is small but buff, Mousewhisker is huge and buff, and Toadstep is friendly and round. And then Rosepetal's build is pretty much her deadbeat dad Spiderleg's, although she's slightly shorter than him and has thicker shoulders 2. Realistic Stonefur. Not much to say tbh 3. Opposite of canon Graystripe. I think in this AU, he's more like Darkstripe personality-wise, so I guess a kinda swap AU? 4. Sparkle cat Redscar. Funky little trauma man! (For those who don’t know, Redscar is a character from one of the field guides, Code of the Clans. He’s the main character in the story for how the “name a deputy before you get your nine lives” came about, where the newly appointed leader died right after the old leader and didn’t have the chance to appoint a new deputy, and then two cats who wanted to become the leader fought to the death for the spot) 5. Official design Webfoot (design from Winds of Change). Ngl I really dig this design and I also love random background characters like Webfoot and Tornear 6. As a breed Leafstar. I chose the Cyprus breed because they're said to be friendly and because I think Leafstar was a former kittypet, also I haven't read Firestar's Quest in years so I could be wrong

Summary: A meet cute on a morning train between pediatric intern Steve and reader.

Every single morning, as if on cue, approximately two minutes before my train leaves the station near my apartment, I come to the realization that if I do not get into full sprint mode right that second, I will miss my train and then be late to my first class and then have to walk in embarrassed while everyone is already inside and then proceed to feel embarrassed over it the entire day. So, considering the fact that I never seem to make myself leave the house just a few minutes early, for the past three years that I have been going to college, almost every morning I run into the train the last moment before the doors close completely out of breath, and have to subtly work on composing myself much longer than I am comfortable to admit.

Yet today, without even realizing, I got out of my apartment solid seven minutes earlier than usual. My roommate and I were so engaged in our conversation about the events of last nights party so we walked out together still invested in the drama which left me pleasantly surprised with the time I was left to spend before my train leaves after we went our separate ways. The extra time opened a whole lot of opportunities for me, almost made me believe I should wake up earlier every morning and not leave for class at the last possible moment. So, with the 420 extra seconds I got today, I managed to actually dig my earphones out my bag, plug them in and wait for the train with the sounds of my morning playlist filling my mind.

Inside the train, when I wasn’t preoccupied by catching my breath but also, even more importantly, focusing on not making it too obvious I was out of my breath, I became very much aware of my surroundings, noticing everything and everyone around me.

There was a girl sitting down right across from where I was standing, she looked about my age and she held a little baby in her arms, slowly rocking it and I noticed the way she was looking totally spent but the moment her baby made this cute laughing sound, a smile spread on her face completely overshadowing the exhaustion in her eyes. Next to the door was an older woman not so subtly judging everyone who was sitting down and has not offered her to sit and right next to the door was a man sitting down and sleeping like a log. I had the urge to wake him up and ask him when he has to get down or if he has already missed his stop, but in all honesty, it was too early in the morning for me to be considerate like that. While continuing to carelessly look around, my eyes landed on something that opened drawers in my memory I did not even know existed.

It was a book cover. A simple white background featuring a boy with frizzy hair who was flying over a drawn-on city with the words ‘Falling Up’ in the middle. So many moments of my dad reading poems from that book to me before bed when I was a kid came up and instantly forced a smile on my face.

In my head, I started reciting the words to my favorite poem from that book, remembering my dad teaching me how to read with those poems when my eyes fell on the arm holding the book and the man attached to it.

And God, was I thankful for the boosted-up heating in the train this morning because that made him take off his leather jacket and throw it over his arm, leaving only a thin, too tight white shirt to cover his upper body and it worked amazing for me that the shirt wasn’t doing its job well.

I heard the sound of the door opening and saw way too many people try to make their way into the train making it way more crowded which pushed the mystery man to move closer to me. Not as close as I wanted though.

My mind was focused solely on him that at one point I wasn’t even aware what station we were at and have I maybe missed mine, but I found myself not caring at all. The point my eyes landed on his face I was basically addicted. His hair was a gorgeous mess, a bit outgrown but looking so good. And, oh my God, his eyes. I was so upset I am only seeing them under the fluorescent light of the subway because I am positive that it would be an out of body experience seeing them under the sunlight.

At that moment I was sure he was the most beautiful man I have ever laid my eyes on and was already cursing myself because I knew I was too nervous to talk to him and will regret that forever.

His lips would occasionally move into a small, barely noticeable grin while he was reading and every once in a while, his tongue would go over his lips leaving them all full and glistening which led to a whole new set of unholy thoughts entering my brain. And his fingers, the way he flipped over the pages was just so-

‘’May I help you somehow?’’ I was snapped out of my trance by his voice and met his eyes that were looking into mine with the coldest, most unimpressed expression as if he was in front of the most annoying person to ever grace the Earth.

‘’Shit, sorry,’’ I apologized quietly and pulled out one earphone to hear him better because no matter how rude it looks he is going to be right now, his voice was just heavenly. ‘’I zoned out when I saw that book.’’ I pointed to the book in his hand and his eyes followed the direction my finger was showing as if he was surprised I wasn’t staring at him but at the book. I was most definitely staring at him though, but I don’t plan on revealing that. ‘’My dad used to read it to me when I was a kid so just seeing the cover brought back too many memories. Sorry.’’ I said in a soft voice and gave him a forced smile hoping he was not going to talk to me again because I really don’t want to be yelled at by the most attractive man alive at 7.23am on a Tuesday in the subway.

‘’You know this book?’’ his voice broke the short-lived silence between us, making my head snap up to look at him again and I was met with a much softer face adorning an adorable smile. ‘’You must think I’m so weird for reading poetry for children.’’ He let out a small laugh which was, without exaggeration, the greatest sound I have ever heard in my life.

‘’No, I think it’s cute.’’ A sly smirk found its way on my face as I felt my usual confidence come back now that I knew he wasn’t planning on yelling at me.

‘’So, you think I’m cute?’’ The smirk on his lips, on the other hand, was not as subtle as mine was as he turned more towards me, quickly closing the book and focusing his eyes on my face.

‘’I didn’t say one thing about you being cute, I was talking about the book.’’ I lied to keep my cool even though cute truly wasn’t the first word that came to my mind when looking at him. It would be something more in the neighborhood of I-would-drop-on-my-knees-for-you-right-this-momentor whatever.

‘’Okay, so you don’t think I am cute?’’ he leaned closer and licked his lips instantly sending shivers down my spine. This man is too much for me to handle right now.‘’Because I think you are really cute.’’ He whispered loudly enough only for me to hear and moved away a bit to fully appreciate my flustered expression because he obviously was aware of the exact effect he had on me.

‘’Well, I guess you aren’t that bad yourself.’’ The fact that I was not literally falling apart in front of this god cosplaying as a man is still not something I can understand. ‘’And thank you.’’ Saying that my voice got super quiet, and I could see him grin proudly at my reaction.

‘’You are welcome,’’ he didn’t finish that sentence and looked at me asking for my name.

‘’Y/n.’’

‘’Y/n.’’ he repeated and stepped closer to me with an excuse of letting someone else pass and giving them space. ‘’That is a real pretty name.’’ I smiled to say thank you and looked at my feet for a second to get myself together.

I didn’t even run to catch this train yet I’m still out of breath.

‘’I am Steve by the way.’’ He stretched out his free hand in my direction but not for one second broke the eye contact between us. ‘’It’s so nice to meet you, Y/n.’’ God, just to hear him say my name was killing me.

‘’Nice to meet you too, Steve.’’ I connected my hand with his much larger one and was painfully aware of the fact he must have heard the soft sound I made the second my skin first touched his.

‘’So,’’ he continued while slowly pulling his hand from mine. ‘’do you like poetry in general, ‘’he lifted the arm with the book and nodded towards it. ‘’or is it just this one book you like?’’ he asked with so much interest in his voice making me absolutely thrilled he was keeping the conversation going.

‘’I love poetry.’’ I kept my answer short because forming decent sentences was a though job while looking at this man and seeing the way he was looking at me.

‘’What kind?’’ he adjusted in his spot somehow that he was even closer to me, leaving basically no space between us, yet to everyone else it seemed normal because the morning rush in the New York City subway never was famous for the spaciousness.

‘’About love.’’ I said softly and witnessed his expression changing from the cocky, overconfident one he had on, to a completely soft one.

‘’Same here.’’ He replied and as if he can do it on cue, looked even more deeply into my eyes. ‘’I like reading about how people feel things I have never felt, it lets me to feel the emotion without risking being hurt.’’ He confessed to me and I couldn’t believe a guy that has such a hard exterior is ready to share that much emotion after talking to a stranger in a train for only a few minutes. But I was thanking all the gods he was.

‘’That’s much deeper than my reason for loving it.’’ A small smile appeared on his face as he looked at me to continue. ‘’I just like reading about love and watching movies about love and basically everything about love. Makes me feel all warm around the heart.’’ He let out a small laugh reminding me why it’s my new favorite sound. ‘’That must sound so cheesy.’’

‘’I don’t think it’s cheesy. I think like it is really nice to love love.’’ he said matter-of-factly. ‘’It’s cute.’’

‘’So you are calling me cute?’’ I looked at him with a raised eyebrow as he let out a huff once again leaning all into my personal space.

‘’I am. I have once before too.’’ He whispered near my ear and I know he knew just what he was doing to me.

‘’What poets do you like the most?’’ he moved away leaving me upset over not feeling his breath on my neck anymore.

‘’I don’t read a lot in English.’’ I fumbled with the edge of my jacket and lowered my eyes to focus on my boots because his face was way too distracting. ‘’My dad is not from here and I got the gene for loving poetry from him so most of the things I read are in his mother tongue because it’s really the only way to keep myself from forgetting it.‘’ Making a mental note to call my dad tonight because it’s been too long, I suddenly became extremely aware that I am sharing so many personal information about me with a random man I met on the subway. ‘’So yeah, most of the poets I read, never got international fame so you unfortunately didn’t have a chance to hear of them.’’ I felt a dash of electricity go through my body when he put his hand under my chin tilting it up so we can once again face each other.

‘’Don’t hide that gorgeous face doll.’’ Dear Lord, I can’t believe I might actually die on a train because of a hot, poetry reading guy. ‘’I’d love to read some of that poetry you like if it is translated.’’

‘’I don’t know if any of it is translated but you can check, I can write down some of the names for you.’’ I said quickly really happy that he wants to read something I will recommend, still recovering from that ‘gorgeous’ comment.

‘’I don’t have anything you can write it on, we can just-‘’

‘’Oh, I have a piece of paper to write it on to, it’s no problem.’’ I interrupted him while flashing him another smile and started digging through my bag for pen and a paper only to have his hand stop mine making me look at him with confusion written all over my face.

‘’I was thinking something more in the lines of you writing your number in my phone,’’ he took his phone out his pocket and directed it at me. ‘’then I can text you and we can meet up so you can tell me more about those poets and maybe translate some for me on the spot if you want to.’’ The smile was evident on his face when I took the phone out his hand and started writing my number into it.

‘’I would really like that, Steve.’’ I gave him his phone back with a smile a bit too big for the cool persona I was trying to present myself as.

‘’Well, I am really looking forward to it, Y/n.’’ he returned the big smile and focused his eyes on my face once again.

‘’Can I ask you something?’’ I looked at him curiously.

‘’Anything, doll.’’

‘’How come you are reading poetry for children?’’ he left out a chuckle and gazed over the book in his hand.

‘’There are two reasons, actually.’’ He shifted from one leg to another and started talking kind of nervously. ‘’Firstly, this book is something I always come back to for some reason. My grandma bought it for me when I was just a kid and I reread it for too many times, so I always go back to it because it’s safe. Something like playing Friends in the background because there is nothing else to watch but it always makes you feel good, you know?’’ I nodded and he continued. ‘’Second is that currently I am interning at the pediatric wing at the hospital downtown and kids love me reading these poems to them so I always find a few I think they would like the most when I am getting to work in the morning.’’

‘’That is really amazing, Steve.’’ I put my hand on his forearm and looked at him with so much affection in my eyes. ‘’Those kids must feel really special having you read to them, it’s really heartwarming you do that even though you don’t have to.’’

‘’They are going through too much shit, if I can make it any better for them, I will.’’ How pathetic is it that talking about kids with this guy I met literally minutes ago, makes me think about having his kids?

‘’That is really too sweet.’’ I had plans on saying so much more to him, but I heard the automatic voice announce how my station is next. ‘’Shit I have to go; this is my stop.’’

‘’Oh.’’ He said and I swear I could hear some disappointment in his voice. ‘’I guess I will see you again?’’ he asked as if he is not sure if that is going to happen.

‘’You most definitely will see me again.’’ I looked at him fondly again and I don’t even know what force gave me the confidence to do so, but before making my way to the door I got on my tip toes and kissed his cheek.

‘’Bye, Steve. See you soon.’’ I said while walking away from him but still keeping my eyes on his as I saw him put his hand on the place I kissed him with a small smile on his face.

‘’See you soon, Y/n.’’ Was the last thing I heard before exiting the train, completely sure that I won’t be able to focus today in class.

But I don’t mind.

A pointless thread in which I rate the MCGA book covers:

8/10: I actually got to see Rick in person when he went on his Magnus Chase tour, so this cover is very nostalgic to me :,) I loved it then and I love it now. The color scheme is *chefs kiss* and it’s just so beautiful?? I also love how much energy the art has. This definitely would’ve caught my eye as a kid at Barnes and Noble.

5/10: Ngl I’m not a huge fan of this one. The color scheme is cool, but the composition is just a little boring ig? It’s too symmetrical and doesn’t really do anything for me.

3/10: ok listen,,, please don’t hate me for rating these so low. This one kind of looks like a different art style than the other two? Idk it’s just putting off a different vibe and seems disconnected?? I’m also not digging how realistic the face is in the background💀 it reminds me of those YA book covers with real people on the front and it’s just not my thing (The Selection Series being an exception).

Once again!! This is personal preference! Feel free to tell me how wrong I am in the comments Lmaoo but seriously I’m curious if I’m in the minority on this!
