oh yeah i’ve got a bunch of loz aus that i haven’t really talked about. a few of them are listed and slightly explained in this poll and explanation reblog but i haven’t gone out of my way to actually list the aus i have and really explain them. so that’s what this post is for. here are some... decently simple explanations of my major aus and what they're generally about

i have two kinds of aus: original aus (loz aus that are set in their own kinds of worlds with their own stories and twists on character roles) and then crossover aus (we all know how this works i just mash loz and a thing i like together)

original aus: (many currently dont have actual titles, so the titles will often just be concept shorthand)

in the court of the crimson king/crimson king au: probably the most developed and closest to being written out. it's got one of the longer premises; set in a industrial-esque hyrule city, following linebeck as the main character, as the adoptive older brother of link and aryll, living with them and their grandmother as the only one able to reliably make money to pay for rent and food, leaving every other week to do jobs, but he moonlights as the 'demon of the gray moon', a masked persona he'd created as a child that had long since become a city-wide urban legend, anonymously taking unsavory jobs from whomever can contact him and offer pay, often working directly for bellum, a childhood friend, the one who enabled and trained him to become the demon, and one of five anonymous leaders of the city. linebeck effectively lives a double life, and tries to stay out of too much trouble to avoid drawing attention to himself or making his adoptive family worry, but he gets dragged into more and more danger as bellum becomes curious about the identities of the city's other leaders, and linebeck falls in love with a man named ganondorf, suspected to be one of those other city leaders. ive got a few posts related to it already: this one being another vague concept descriptor, this one being an actual scene i have written out.

'gimmick' au: i cannot explain the gimmick without spoiling the au. put simply, in this au, hyrule as a whole has been at war for ten years, every race and kingdom taking sides in a conflict that seems to be going nowhere. link joined the hylian army young, and has made his way up the ranks to become trusted by queen zelda herself, and things in the war take an interesting turn as he and zelda discover a new faction, unaligned with any particular kingdom and with unknown motives, and zelda decides to set out to the different parts of hyrule, link and a chosen group of trusted allies in tow, intending to try negotiation one more time before things take a turn for the worse.

sci-fi/space au: the fun one that probably would need to be done in a visual medium. it takes place in a solar system of a few planets, link growing up on the planet hyrule and occasionally traveling to the others as a knight specializing in investigating and taking down dangerous bounty hunters, working for zelda as a friend. he and zelda uncover a plot by the yiga clan to accumulate a number of highly dangerous research and weapons held by each species as they aim to resurrect a demon to wreck havoc on the solar system- the b plot being about the top bounty hunters in the solar system screwing around, eventually colliding with link and zelda's a plot as it begins to involve them.

murder mystery(?) au: one of the older ones, maybe one of the oldest that i still stick with. this might actually be one of the first ones i tried writing. the plot begins when zelda returns to hyrule city years after her father- the former mayor- was murdered, finding that he has been replaced by ganondorf and that while things seem fine enough on the surface, random and organized crime run the show, and she begins a private detective agency as 'sheik', a masked young man, and with the help of impa, and old friend and confidant, she moonlights as sheik and uses her daytime identity as zelda to help chip away at some of the city's biggest problems and finds herself drawn into a long string of murders that appear to be anything but random violence.

ruined hyrule 1: i have two au’s with the premise of hyrule being ruined. neither of them have more specific names yet. this one begins with the majority of greater hyrule's population having long since locked themselves in hyrule castle town in order to escape the increasingly dangerous wildlife. zelda, a young girl at the beginning, becomes curious about what lies beyond the city walls, and makes friends with many other children within this sheltered hyrule, and as they grow up together, aim to eventually venture out into the wilderness to see what may have caused the outside world to become so incredibly hostile.

ruined hyrule 2: the other ruined hyrule. set in a devastated hyrule, roughly ten years after the royal family was killed, link failing to save them or hyrule in the time since. he now resolves to set out and indiscriminately destroy every demon that plagues the ruined hyrule, meeting and bringing along various allies, each of which has been uniquely affected by and have different lived in this altered, dangerous shell of hyrule.

modern (school): i also have two modern aus. this one isn’t plot driven, just a concept i have, would work best as little vignettes or something. essentially just the idea of a group of loz characters hanging out together in a modern high school (or college?) setting.

modern: this is the one with an actual plot. follows the general idea of zelda characters living in a modern world only for the typical legends to begin resurfacing and heralding dark events. plot specifics are murky, but that's the general idea.

dark mage: this is the au that where the seas meet the sands takes place in. basically just ganondorf x linebeck shenanigans in this alternate hyrule while actual plot sneaks up on them. named 'dark mage' mostly because the initial idea behind this au was that linebeck would learn magic.

horror au: doesn't have the best name, and it's ended up just being a personal sandbox for me. constantly changing, with the cast and setting often altering if i find that something isn't working or sticking. it's an au i've considered (and even briefly tried) writing in the past, but it's still too fluid, and writing horror effectively is difficult. it's a fun au, though.

mecha au: spawned because i watched neon genesis evangelion. a lot of this au's basic concepts can be found here: x but the short version is that hyrule is being besiged by massive monsters, but each race has created their own mechs to combat them. link is just a farmer who happens to have a strange knack for being a mech user, so is brought in by zelda as a gamble to bolster their chances, and he is tasked with working with a new and less-than-trustworthy crew to help fight those monsters.

'amnesia link' au: an au that sprang up in about a day and hasn't gotten too far since. basic premise being that three years prior to the story, link and a group of allies has faced off against ganondorf and, despite their best efforts, lost, with link being presumed dead by their enemies. now, link has woken up from his coma, his memories gone and hyrule taken over, and, with guidance, must once again travel across hyrule, aiming to rediscover his allies and try to face ganondorf once more.

- world class hypocrite by aashimar ... 80.5k words and 9/10 chapters (EPILOGUE PLEASE PLEASE UPLOAD). read tags! explicit sex scenes throughout but its staged post-canon. this fic made me SICK. rinsagi au where isagi was outed as gay by rin before the wc and his life was basically ruined afterwards. the LONGING and RESENTMENT in this is the absolute peak of society. both rin and isagis characters are written so amazingly like theyre so flawed and theyre very messy people but theyre like really actually in love with each other. they say a lot of fucked up shit to each other but i still swear by this fic! the plot was SO SO intriguing and the way its written is really realistic. the chemistry is absolutely INSANE in this fic. my personal fav bllk fic and one of my fav fics ever! belongs in the hof tbh

Non show watcher, Im confused, all these vague posts about an ending of th season. I know the show has changed alot alot, but did they hve siuan die durng the lanfear moraine disappearance? Because thatll be a big departure if they exclude the stilling plot. I guess since they made them active lesbians, from what ive heard, they may give the stilling/garreth bryne subplot to a different character. sorry if im misunderstanding, just the posts have been pretty vague on what actually happened just people have strong feelings apparently

Hello! Sorry for vague-blogging, I think people were trying to not spoil the ending in case anyone didn't have a chance to watch it yet but it's been a few days so I'm sure the cat is out of the bag for most people that follow the series. (this ended up being longer than I anticipated but I do love to yap and this is one of my obsessions right now!)

Anyway, to answer you question, the show ended up killing off Siuan immediately following Elaida's Tower coup. This stirred up a lot of emotions for some people and there's been some people saying that now the show should be cancelled, or the show is playing into the "kill the gays" trope, or that they are just killing off POC characters etc etc... There is definitely a less positive vibe from Tumblr after the season 3 finale than before, but I will give you my thoughts on why I thought it was a good season finale, and you can parse them as you will.

It is definitely a big departure from the books, as you said, but it seems that they are setting up at least part of Siuan's post-stilling storyline to be continued on by Leanne (it was unclear in the season finale if she was actually stilled or just shielded, but it's fairly certain that she survived). The Gareth Brynne relationship would fit in well with Leanne's post-stilling storyline from the book series, as she became more interested in men and (if I'm remembering right) ended up choosing Green as her second ajah later on. I think it would add a really good martyr aspect to the rebel Aes Sedai/Salidar crew, and having Leanne be the rallying point would fit well.

Also the writing REALLY amped up the Moiraine/Siuan relationship from "pillow friends as novices" with maybe a little more subtext in the book series, to "in a committed relationship for 20+ years" in the show, and there are many wonderful, emotional scenes in the show that solidify this. To have Siuan follow the Gareth Brynne relationship arc after building up her relationship with Moiraine for three seasons would have been weird at best, and a big slap in the face to wlw relationships at worst. Another BIG thing to keep in mind is that it was confirmed that Sophie Okonedo (Who played Siuan), had other acting opportunities that she had to move on to, and they wanted to give her a well-written exit without just disappearing the character for 1-2 seasons without explanation.

A lot of people have fears that the show is using POC and LGBT characters as cannon fodder/convenient death plot advancement, and it is not a completely unreasonable fear. Most people in their late 20s/30s can remember when TV (in America at least, I can't speak for other countries) rarely had LGBT or POC characters, and the few characters that were shown were typically portrayed as comic relief, or stereotypical trope side characters, or characters that were killed off quickly to advance the plot for the straight white main characters. The fear that your queer/POC fav is going to die randomly is pretty deeply ingrained in a lot of people, and it's hard to shake off. That being said, I don't think that is happening with Wheel of Time AT ALL. For the entirety of season 3, there have been signs that the Moiraine/Siuan relationship was not going to end happily. Moiraine's visions in Rhuidean showed that only one possible turning of the wheel among dozens/hundreds of possibilities ended with her and Siuan happy together. Scenes at the tower have been showing that Siuan's approval was slipping and that Elaida wanted revenge for being overlooked when the Amyrlin was decided. Killing Siuan when they did cemented the Moiraine/Siuan relationship as being something worth dying for in the viewers mind, and they did it in such a powerful way that it felt much more uplifting of LGBT relationships than if they had just let it fizzle out to make way for another romance plot with Siuan/Gareth.

Siuan is not the only POC/LGBT death this season either, Loial was killed in Episode 7, and Ihvon in the season 3 premier. From what I gather, Emmanuel Imani (who played Ihvon) also had other work opportunities and had to move on from the show. The Ihvon/Alanna/Maksim poly relationship was excellent to see, and I am glad that they did not shy away from the poly representation. It was a real relationship that had real ups and downs, just like any relationship, and I thought they did it justice. Loial's death was unfortunate, but I can understand it from the plot of the books why it happened. He was a good character, but his story arc did not necessarily add a lot to the main plot. That being said, Hammed Animashaun did a wonderful job portraying him and suffered through what I can only imagine as hundreds of hours of makeup and prosthetic work to create the character.

The majority of the cast are POC, and that is huge, even today. I have posted previously about, as a young teen who grew up in a 95%+ white community, I just assumed when reading the books that pretty much everyone was white. That obviously doesn't make sense, as the books have characters from every corner of the WoT universe, and the characters travel all over the world. It says right in the beginning of The Eye of The World that the other folks in Emond's Field often commenting that Rand was only one around with light skin and red hair. That being said, characters die in the series. LOTS of characters die. And to say that none of the POC characters should be dying off because we need to keep representation in the show is just plain ridiculous. The death of a character doesn't erase their narrative in the series, or erase the actor's work, and certainly not every character is going to survive in a post-apocalyptic series.

I often have this conversation with my group of friends when an example comes up: a lot of people lack emotional maturity when consuming media. The Siuan situation and how some WoT fans have responded is an excellent example of this. Siuan was a fan favorite, and the moment she died, some people reacted as if the entire series was ruined. The series that they were SO excited about just one week ago for being an excellent adaptation from their favorite book series that they have read and enjoyed for years, that they loved because of the POC representation and the LGBT romances and the likeable, relatable character..... And they are ready to burn it down because their wlw fav was killed. Threatening to review bomb the series, trashing it on social media, going as far to blame Sophie Okonedo for "ruining the series" by requesting to be written out of the show. I understand that Siuan's death hurt. She was a great character and she had a lot longer story arc in the books but.... Grow up. Not only do you look incredibly childish with these opinions, but you are also hurting the future of television networks doing large scale future productions of fan-favorite shows for fear that if they make the tiniest change, the fanbase will turn on the show. I have posted in the past about how some people hate the Elder Scrolls games because they depict rampant racism and how it "promotes racism" by doing so. But in the premise of the game setting, racism is realistic, especially in Morrowind, where they are so secluded from the empire and their ways are so different from the other provinces. That doesn't mean it's GOOD or that you should defend racism because it's present, but it's believable in the context that it is written and helps to build a fictional world and explain the characters' actions. Writing a good story doesn't mean that the author agrees with the ethics presented in the story, or wants to promote the idea that they are conveying to the reader/viewer. It is up to YOU to parse this out.

I'm sure I could probably go on at even greater lengths, but I want to end with my thoughts so far on the series as a whole. I think every season so far has been a massive improvement on the previous season, and I think it has the opportunity to get even better. The acting has improved every season, and though the story doesn't follow the books very closely, I've enjoyed it immensely. The representation of POC/LGBT folks remains excellent. The special effects are excellent. I am ABSOLUTELY biased because I have read the book series several times over the last 15 years, but it is probably the best fantasy/scifi series I have ever watched.

In conclusion, the real problem here is Amazon and their refusal to renew the show in a timely manner. Unfortunately, if Amazon continues to wait a year (or two years, or more) in between greenlighting the next season renewal, the show will suffer for it. Actors are people that need to buy food and clothing and housing just like everyone else, and while the main characters probably make a pretty decent wage for their work and could hold on a yar or two between paychecks, I doubt that the side character actors are getting paid enough money to live on for several years while waiting for the possibility of another season whenever Amazon feels like renewing. They will be forced to leave and take other positions because, unfortunately, money makes the world go round. The same goes for the hundreds of makeup/styling/setbuilding crew. Amazon needs to stop dragging their feet if they want to retain the amazing actors and the team of people who work hard to make this show a reality.

When its comes to normal art ,ive been thinking about some pieces ,for exemple one that id like to do that is inspired by a beautiful piece of my dear mutuals(sorry for the tag) @scared-lantern ,its Slight's sanctuary , while Eko doesn't have a temple ,nor cult ,ive been wanting to do a piece of a place they love to go to , i might also make some Narinder and Eko art because i havent talked much about these two despite them being quite interesting , one that i really have been wanting to do is about Shamura and Eko ,these two need to be talked about more !:D I might do some quick sketches of places that are important or that i like (eko's "room" in shamura's room ,and well shamura's room lmao ,might do leshy's temple too,maybe ,possibly)

I really love Ivarin/Ivrakk, please tell us more about him 🙏 I love the fact that he's not even the center of some screenshots and his still in cornes doing sassy faces.

AAAA, it makes me so happy you love him, since he's one of my faves, if not THE fave! I don't wanna say too much since his story is so tied to the main plot, but! I've written some details from all of his reincarnations! (Well there's one more, he gets reincarnated as a grumpy house cat after the medieval timeline and before his life as Ivran 😂)

Ivrakk: He's the Aspect of Fire 🔥 and the leader of the fire dragons. I really wanna try to paint his dragon form at some point, I have such a clear image of it in my head! It's very sharp and pointy, grey with some red details! Also the way Ivrakk talks and most of the fire dragons, I imagine them just very sharp and fangy. He has a very hot temper and has trouble containing it, especially around Hiraani lmao, she's always teasing him because she loves to watch his hair turn blue when he's pissed. (I imagine the ends of his hairs have lil flames and they turn blue when angwy) Speaking of Hiraani, they are lovers in the ancient past. I basically have two versions of the story, one where me and Nenps world/characters are mixed together, and then one that just has my own characters, and in the original one Hiraani and Ivrakk are together till the end, but in the other version, Ivrakk ends up with Tiamat (maybe, ive not 100% decided lol), and Hiraani with Nenps' Apollo! Also if you've ever played ffxiv, Ivrakk's mannerisms are very similar to Emet Selch/Hades ^^

Ivarin: His story is very angsty and delicious, he starts his life as a Dragon slayer of one of the Kingdoms. (There's two kingdoms in the world, and the other is ruled over by a mad king who wants to get rid of dragonkin) So he's very brainwashed to believe all dragons are evil/beasts and slaughters a lot in the kings name. The dragon slayers are a unique fighting force of the king, they inject dragon blood to their veins to get some of their qualities, and that also makes their eye pupils change etc. One of my fave things two think/write about is his relationship with Richard (Anuvan) who's one of the princes of the kingdom and just a spoiled brat. They bicker a lot and it starts out very rocky but then eventually turns into more of a brotherly love. But he eventually ends up captured in the other kingdom that's ruled by Queen Serene and meets Aiyana (Hiraani) there, and the rest of the squad :)

Ivran: Ivran's mother dies giving birth to him and that sadly makes the dad resent him from the start. He grows up in a very toxic household and spends most of his life feeling like he's not good enough. But he eventually ends up as the Admiral of Galaxa fleet, and meets Neptune through that. He's a very similar grumpy pants in all his reincarnations, hot headed and brash. But I've always imagined him as capable of being incredibly charming, if he chooses to. He's a bit of a ladies' man as Ser Ivarin in medieval, and definetly as Ivran too. Quick witted and sharp tongued ;) But yea, not much I can say about him without getting to the main plot! I have plans to release like mini stories from the story with pics and stuff at some point!

you know on a lot of my posts that discuss the ending of the magnus archives i get a lot of tags from people asking why the spoilers aren't tagged or that they're upset that they got spoiled for it or people reblogging with comments like "I'm only on episode X !!! What the hell happens?!?!"

part of me is ??? so confused ???? bc this show ended almost 4 years ago ??? i've only recently rejoined tumblr since listening to tma/tmagp so perhaps the rules of engagement have changed, but im only used to adding spoiler tags to things that are recent, like within 1-2 weeks of an episode dropping you're supposed to tag it with spoilers so people have time to catch up, but after that it's up to you to avoid the dash if you aren't caught up yet and don't want spoilers.

i didn't look on here or on any website outside of my twitter thread when i was initially listening as to not be spoiled (did the same thing with malevolent, only looked at my own dash or my tags page when i was listening)

BUT ALSO part of me feels really bad bc i think going into tma blind as fuck is the best way to do it. i just happened to decide to finally listen after seeing someone on tiktok talk about protocol coming back from a hiatus, i had 0 knowledge of tma other than the knowledge that it was an anthology horror series. it was probably one of the best decisions ive made this year. I would have HATED it if i got spoiled for something major.

Any tips on how to display YouTube content (such as animatics, pmvs, amvs) of your stories without spoiling too much of your narrative? I've been struggling a lot with subtlety when it comes to YouTube ideas.

FJKDSFDS TBH IM . not sure if im the best person to ask this because i feel i have historically spoiled way too much in pmvs until i actually decided to try to be more obscure about it (and even then i feel i reveal too much sometimes esp outside of vids). tbh a reason why i havent really made a lot of pmvs more recently is that i have sworn off depicting some story events/developments until i get to depicting them in the actual final presentation of my story (whatever it will be, comic or graphic novel we will see). luckily ive kind of non-canonized most of my old vids (since things have just naturally changed in the story as ive actually been writing it) so i feel the big events i spoiled in those have changed enough/arent canon anymore so i dont feel too bad

i guess then for my mindset now when making a pmv and actively trying to be more opaque is this:

more specific to pareidolia but im only choosing to depict events during pt 1 and also in more broad strokes. some important events/status quo changes i have depicted (in my latest pmv) but the way in which i did so was by trying to be as vague about it as possible - not showing how they happened or how they got there which can open up for more interpretations and in turn not really spoil as much. cuz i think the most intriguing thing is knowing HOW or WHY something happened which is why i keep it kind of vague for the most part

if you're not planning for it to be a big plot point in the actual story, always remember you can make stuff of backstory material!! folke's backstory doesn't really come up in detail in pareidolia the way im planning it so thats one of the story aspects i consider making more pmvs of in the future and perhaps making them more cohesive since i think that would only come up in detail if i made "prequel" material

symbolism is always fun to utilise and especially so if its already present in your story. because if you have a scene that is not entirely literal but still depict it out of context in a pmv it can be a nice way to depict a scene without spoiling much bcs without the context theres way more ways to interpret whats happening

howdy there and welcome to a Cutie Pox Chronicles behind the scenes post!!!!! its gonna be long so im keeping it below the cut, this is skippable but if you want to read it you can!!

SO welcome to the depths... so heres what were going to talk about today - the yukki ponna, some cut content, fine line and some character details, and then some personal stuff! lets get into it

so, as was predicted a couple times, the weather change and disharmony is real important to the story - its been foreshadowed sense chapter one! but theres one clear problem with it and its the shows original frost horse. as i think everyone is aware for decades indigenous people have asked to not take their mythos out of their context (( read more on that here , and here!)). so for CPC i have rewritten them to be based off the Yuki onna, a Japanese yokai! although they work fundamentally the same - they feed off of disharmony and infighting, not only now do they freeze whoever they are around they also kidnap ponies once they are fully frozen! Theyre brought up into the clouds and used to make them more powerful - however they can be stopped in the same way as in the show. here is one of the initial pieces of concept art i did for them - making their bodies look more like a kimono, and i played with giving them black hair too but i didnt like it.

speaking of concept art... there are a LOT of pannels that get cut while im working, this past comic had about 18 pages that i cut down for time and for my sanity, but i share a lot of WIP panels on jayrrators server so i still have some and thought i would share them here, in the read more will be the context and why they were cut!

NOW THIS i am glad i have. when i draw an infected i do make them a ref sheet but i DO NOT share or save these because i dont wanna spoil what they look like buuuut this one i did. i actually had one for minty that i was gonna add here, but deleted it accidentally, shown here is orange swirl and globe trotter

but on the topic of showing off some ponies i have one i wanna talk about and its the fine line problem

the question ive gotten the most is who the hell is this and i think its time to talk about who she is. Fine line first shows up in the season one finale, the grand galloping gala, and she then shows up as a canterlot incidental form then on out primarily when theyre at the castle. shes shows up at cadences wedding and gets killed by the smooze (( not really )).

okay we get who she is but WHY. well part of the point of the comic was to give some love to the background ponies like the early fandom i was engrossed with growing up. and to me, she is one of the most background ponies. she has no dialogue, no special moments, but yet she has a very enchanting design! when i first saw her i really became obsessed with her. but she almost wasnt a part of the comic.

when i was choosing ponies it was a throw up between her - orange swirl (( as seen above )), strawberry sunrise, and dan tee dove! i needed a pegasus pony, and someone who wasnt WHITE or eggshell because theres too many of them. but... she fit none of them. she in cannon is a unicorn and white, but after talking it over with some friends and almost choosing orange swirl i just had to go with her.

so i updated her design to what i needed, shes no longer a unicorn or eggshell which makes her look more like an OC but most of the background ponies get a small upgrade to their designs so it just makes sense to me. for personality we only know shes a nanny and was born in manehattan, so i made her have a personality that would work well with kids, and made her older to fit her general vibe. and then i paired her with the only OC in the whole comic who is yougurt! why didnt i use a different calf? well get this, there are NO names i could find!!!! so screw it!!!! baby baby boy!!!!!!!!

but yeah thats the history for finest lineist!

and as requested here is the pronouns for ever character that has plot significance: from now on ill be including it with the characters introduction. although outside of the story i do get more headcannony for them but to keep things simple in the story they generally stick to what they are in cannon! i know i probably forgot some but -

i think daddy kink would be sooooo good in your fingers in these wounds!! a lot of it its cause is so hot, but on a serious note, i dont think joel has to feel so guilty about it... i think he definitely would feel insecure in the beginning but maybe he can feel like thats exactly what he needs to heal, accepting that part of himself that wants to take care of people and being for reader what needs, like he said previously to tommy that he will be whatever she needs him to be and maybe when he sees she needs help he just suggests it? when he sees she agrees wholeheartedly he just does it for her and for that bit of himself that died with sarah, that part of him that just likes to take care of the things he loves and he closed off ever since sarah died... but now that he loves reader he can finally access it again? idk if makes sense im just trying to think it through because your story is soooo well written and its one of the best characterizations of joel ive ever read so i know it has to make perfect sense and it is a really complicated thing to add to the plot and angst, but if you think it makes sense i would soooo love to see it

I think you make a very good point!! I understand exactly what you mean — reader and Joel fit together like two puzzle pieces, one doesn’t know how to let someone take care of them, the other locked away the part that enjoys taking care of someone. They help each other heal (hence the title of course). I do think I could make daddy kink happen, but it needs more buildup imo. I’m not spoiling too much, but your message really made me rethink my perspective on Joel’s relationship with the term daddy <3 also, it really touched me to view my characters through your eyes, and it makes me very happy you like the way I write Joel. I have so much love and compassion for his character so whenever other people see him (& reader too) the same way, it brings me so much joy🩵

i haven't been reading "good" manga much recently. i read random yaoi for a laugh or easy entertainment, same with fic, but it's been a while since ive really dug into something. a lot of this has to do with grad school killing my creativity, tbh....

but to answer ur question, i really like naoki urasawa, i think hes written the most "literary" manga out there. everybody knows about monster, but 20th/21st century boys and pluto are also worth checking out. urasawa has the most consistently good body of work ive encountered from a mangaka. like, i would say fullmetal alchemist probably has my vote for manga that remains strong throughout and is just undeniably a classic, but urasawa has so much breadth across his body of work. there's shit in monster and 20th century boys i still think about, and i read them like 13 years ago.

i am keeping up with the summer hikaru died, though the plot is at a bit of a lull and i get the sense the author isn't completely sure what to do with their own success. i absolutely love the concept nonetheless though, and think the first few chapters are great on their own.

a lesser known, cult favourite of mine is homunculus. really really different than most manga you've probably read already. can't say much more than that without spoiling.

i think vagabond is worth checking out, even though the story is probably akin to many things youve already read, and it remains unfinished. same with the climber. not super unique stories or themes, but generally well executed.

my guilty pleasure manga is kuroshitsuji lol. its my opinion that yana toboso is kind of a genius but.isnt even really aware of it bc shes cursed with gooner mentality. the story really really sucks right now and has for the past 2 arcs lol but i could write an entire thesis on my various marxist readings of kuroshitsuji. and im not even joking. it's sooooo stupid but it's fascinating to me bc yana is making this like insane pastiche of victorian literary conventions AND contemporary victorian anachronisms that is honestly really camp and interesting but it's just like. FULL of her weird fetishes. not even the obvious pedo stuff but like once you get into it you start seeing her vomit fetish and foot fetish and dollification fetish and it's just really interesting to analyze 😭 like i wanna put her in a lab and study her idk. a little known fact to u all about me is im like obsessed with ppl who are weirdly horny and i conduct what i call "goonvestigations" on them and to me yana toboso is like a top tier gooner to investigate. omg notice how this is already the longest paragraph in this reply... i wouldn't say i recommend reading it lmfao i just think it may be hilariously shocking to you all that i follow that slop. not even just follow. i read the LEAKS 😭

anyways. i would also say oyasumi punpun and blood on the tracks (moreso the beginning bits, it does kinda fall off) are things u might like if you were into the "darker" aspects of berserk (and im not talking the shitty rape scenes, moreso the emotional toxic entanglement of fucked up characters). obviously ya gotta read junji ito too.

i also read saiki k, one punch man, and mob psycho 100 for fun. i think when you read enough of the same thing, eventually you get to the point where all you wanna read is parodies of the genre lol. i read sooooo much manga when i was younger that now its all the same to me, and i just wanna see people make fun of it. that's kinda where im at with manga lately... none of the new stuff interests me unless it's self reflective satire of its own principles. this is why i like mr robot too btw. it functions as satire of both online political movements and their material impotence, and how they are shaped by 90s american capitalism-critical media like american psycho, the sopranos, fight club etc that are about protagonists essentially so caught up in themselves their worldviews totally occlude reality. but don't get me going about mr robot or ill go on forever...

okay okay man i just. There's a lot of smol lil moments im so proud of that i just wanna gush about so here's my time to gush about it, in no particular order im just gonna go through the chapter and make comments as i go so uh. Director's commentary i guess LOL

Oh man so so so. I'm gonna avoid posting any spoilers for future chapters but. In both chapter 1 and this chapter I started setting up a future plot point. I had this planned for MONTHS. And idk when the reveal will drop- currently thinking chapter 4? Who knows but that's my current plan. BUT. but. but. BUT. There's a plot point I've been alluding to and foreshadowing in both chapters... and I don't think anyone's caught on to it yet >:3c And i cannot WAIT to finally get to The Thing(tm) and FINALLY be able to point at EVERY LINE in chapters 1+2 that were leading up to it like "iVE BEEN PLANNING THIS FROM THE START, GO BACK AND REREAD, ITS BEEN THERE FROM THE BEGINNING!" Again i wont spoil what the thing is but I'm gonna be so excited when we get there. I'm also curious if anyone will catch what it is yet... >:3ccc

Oh my God. The scene of Quickman and Dr. Light actually sitting down and trying to find ways to help Quick was so cathartic to me. Yes I want Light to be a flawed character and trust me we're gonna SEE those flaws in coming chapters, but I really just. Wanted him to genuinely try to help these bots. Like this is a conversation I had with a friend from over a YEAR ago, so it's so satisfying to finally get to make the closure I wanted from this!!

This fic is a unique challenge for me!! Like on one hand, I want to make Quickman abrasive and confrontational- want him to be the "problem" bot which is why so many people give up on him so early... but on the other hand, I want his actions to be understandable. Like yeah he's a jerk but he's more often than not kinda right to be pissed at their situation. I want him to be a relatable and realistic protag, not just some dick who's a jerk to everyone for no reason. I really hope I got that across in this fic... Yeah he's gonna start at his worst and slowly soften up but I hope I hit a good balance of asshole vs righteously upset

Terms like "cycling vents" as a robot tie-in for breathing was something I picked up from my time in the Transformers fandom!!! I picked up a lot of mech related terms from TF that'll be used a lot in this series which'll be fun to point out down the line. But yeah Cybertronians gave me a good dictionary to describe robot master anatomy/mannerisms with!

"Would he have better odds destroying Ice or Cut? Probably Cut." <- You've heard of love at first sight now get ready for... whatever the fuck THIS is supposed to be

Oh man, Flash and Quick,,, I'll talk about them in a lil bit bc man i have so many thoughts about them, but I'll mention one thing for now: The scene where Quick and Flash banter before Flash goes with Time that first day? *Chefs kiss*, Idk why but this scene means a lot to me. Sets up a lot of small things. Flashman being more receptive to DRIP, Quickman being more vocally against it all, the way Flash is keeping things lighthearted... the way that unnerves Quick, because they've never been nice to each other before??? They. They mean so much to me. THIS IS THE NOT-SO-SUBTLE SHIT IM TALKING ABOUT I JUST WANNA BRING ATTENTION TO IT MAN,,,

OH CRASHMAN! I really love what I'm gonna be doing with Crash. Yeah I'm taking a bit of my own hc instead of just pulling his personality from the Archie comics but Crash is one of my favorite robot masters. I like to imagine him as someone who looks intimidating, but is actually quite shy and sweet once you get to know him. I also like to imagine him with a programming flaw that leaves him with some significant emotional disregulation- it can leads to sudden spikes of any emotion that are overwhelming and hard to deal with. Anger, sadness, joy, they can all spike with no warning and he really struggles to keep up with it.

One thing that I want as a recurring theme is that Crash is often written off as a "problem" case because of his unpredictable and occasionally violent outbursts, but Quick has always been someone who's understood Crash and always treated him kind and even helped him through some of his worse episodes. It's a big reason why Crash looks up to Quick and almost treats him like an older brother of sorts.

... I also just like this Quick and Crash scene since it shows Quick's softer side but yknowwwww >:3

OH one tiny detail im SO proud of is that Quick ALWAYS says "DWN RIP" instead of "DRIP"... but around Crash, he calls it DRIP, because he knows Crash wants to give this an actual try -> “… You want to go through with this DRIP thing, don’t you?”

Oh yeah I'll allow myself one very minor spoiler- Quick's bed being next to the window will be important for plot stuff later >:3 nothing major but like I'm just happy I thought abt it in chapter 1 and went "wAIT I CAN USE THIS FOR PLOT POINTS IN LATER CHAPTERS"

Cut hanging out with Time and Oil! This is mostly my personal bias towards those 3 bots, but I also want Cut to be closer to the two of em than most of the other DLN are. Also specifically Cut and Time's relationship will be semi-relevant in a later chapter... and I'll probably find a way to rope Oil in too LMAO

“You know, you and Time weren’t the easiest to work with at first, either...” <- This one's probably obvious but Cut's alluding to the fact that Time and Oil were more or less Wily bots from the get-go and VERY noncompliant and unhappy to be brought back to Light and re-made into Light bots >:3c

Cut giving Quick the mp3,,, I didn't call it an mp3 since it's 20xx and idk if they would call a music player an mp3 player in the future... i mean hell, its only 2025 and we already dont call anything mp3s anymore. But yeah its just an mp3 LOL-

Oh yeah and "Audials" instead of "Ears"! Another lingo I took from TF!

Yeah I originally wasn't gonna have Quick properly meet Cut yet but like. I liked adding the scenes I did to this chapter. I really wanted to give Quick and Cut just a few small moments like this before they really start to bond. Just- really want Cut to actually try and accommodate Quick instead of telling Quick what he wants. Really want to drive home the friends in "enemies to friends to lovers". They're still not friends yet ofc, but like, yknow, Cut's genuinely trying to be a friend. Let's see in future chapters if it works >:3c

Ngl I originally wanted to make Dr. Light's favorite genre Classic Rock instead of Rock and Roll but like. He did name his bots after the genre so it'd feel really weird changing his fav genre. Old ass man.

... I'm gonna be honest you guys. Idfk what genre I imagine Wily to listen to. Idk what band Quick was playing, and i definitely don't know what song was his trigger. I purposely kept it vague, so imagine whatever you'd like! My fiance made the joke that Wily probably likes early 2000s German Metal so like- if you want to imagine that, be my guest LMAO

I'm so proud of his flashback you guys. Guilty pleasure. Those who read my fics know I loooove my hurt comfort and I have a big guilty pleasure for sudden trauma flashbacks leading into panic attacks~ Yeah I'm coping with my own trauma dw about it~

I really wanted to play up just how fucking horrifying Doc Robot is, ESPECIALLY in the Archie comics. The fact that EVERY bot was vocally against it, to the point Quick tried to literally fight Breakman off to save himself??? And they were literally forced because they couldn't disobey programming??? And that Wily seemed to not care about doing that to his Seconds??? It's like... some of the worst we've seen Wily. He is usually written as someone who deeply cares for his own machines, so to see him do this to the Seconds was kinda insane. And like... I think I'm gonna play with this. This idea that Wily really mistreated his bots, and what that means for them going forward.

... Also drew a teensy bit from my own experiences as a system, hehe. Luckily our lives aren't the literal hell that's Doc Robot, but- sharing a brain, watching someone control your body, recognizing you're a part of a whole and not your own full person? Insane enough for me and my alters who have ALWAYS been parts of a whole, now imagine being a fully complete separate person suddenly shoved together with 7 other fully complete separate people? *Shivers*. I keep saying it but Doc Robot is peak plural horror to me and I hope I captured how chaotic and scary it was for Quick in that very short flashback.

Oh and being so overwhelmed by the trauma in the moment that Quick was in such an intense fight or flight that he accidentally destroyed something he genuinely enjoyed? And immediately regretting that? Ough,,, yeah,,, trauma is messy like that. I'm really proud of the heartbreak of it but y e a h. Trauma is. Messy.

AND AGAIN FLASH AND QUICK!!! I mean I don't think this is spoilers to say that Flash very clearly wants to be redeemed through this program, I feel that was very obvious even with his banter with Quick. I like to hc that Doc Robot really messed with Flash too, and he matured significantly after that. He's basically already given up on Wily, he's just not admitting that to anyone. He just wants him and his linemates to be safe, even if that means integrating into industrial functions.

OH THIS IS ALSO WHERE I PUT MY DELETED SCENE! I'll add that at the bottom- but basically Flash jokes about Quick being trans. Because yeah I'm adding trans!Quick to this fic because it's my fic and I do what I want~ But then I figured with everything else revealed in this chapter... ehhhh, pacing didn't feel right to mention it now. Not sure when I'll bring it up but I feel it'll be better pacing to mention it in a later chapter.

OH and Elecmaaaan~ So my original idea for this chapter was to end it after Quick and Elec do their race, spend the day together, and everything that comes with that. But with how long each scene got and how many scenes I added, I figured leaving on the race cliffhanger and covering their full scene together next chapter would be a better call.

I also just love Elec and Cut being such brothers. Cut's the """eldest""" but he also acts so immature that he gets perceived as "younger". Meanwhile Elec's the """youngest""" but gets appointed "leader" due to his more mature and cynical personality. They both look up to each other, and constantly argue over who has more authority in the DLN. I like to think Elec's the brains of the group, but Cut's the heart. We'll absolutely be exploring Cut's and Elec's relationship more in later chapters, especially their very conflicting feelings around Quick >:3

but i THINK thats all i wanted to ramble about!!! Here's the cut(HAH) scene that would've taken place while Flash is comforting Quick, before I tucked it aside and replaced it with what we DO see in chap 2:

“What I mean is… I think we can use this program to our advantage.” … Okay, Quick was officially interested. He slowly sat up, giving Flash his full attention. “I mean, just think about it.” Flash explained, “Sure, the government is going to be keeping super close eyes on us while this goes on, but… What happens when we trick everyone into thinking we’re ‘fully adjusted’? They can’t keep curfews and babysitters on us forever.” … Ohhhhhhh.  Quick nodded, quickly seeing where he was going, “So we play nice, until they let their guard down.” “Exactly.” Flashman smirked at him, “Who’s to say we don’t just pretend to like whatever jobs they give us, then defect right back to Wily as soon as he shows his face again?” Quick cracked a smile… though it quickly fell as he thought about it further. Sure, it seemed nice in concept, but… “... They want us to be like them, though.” He explained, sighing, “They’re gonna try to make me something I’m not. Even- Even if I play along at first, I don’t know if I can keep at it for months. That’s not what I am.” Flashman stared at him for a few moments… before he huffed, rolling his eyes, “You’re so painfully trans.” Quick bristled at that, not expecting Flash to bring that up, “What the hell is that supposed to mean-?!” “Quick, no one’s asking you to be Quickwoman.” He answered, “You don’t have to change a fundamental part of what you are to pretend to like working on a fucking construction site.” Quick blinked, then growled at him, “Well making a weapon try to fit into an industrial job is changing a part of what I am.”   “... Quickman. I’m a weapon too, ya dumbass.” Flash retorted, bluntly, “You may be the only trans one in our group, but literally all of us are weapons. You’re not special in that regard.” “So?” Quick challenged. “So,” Flash continued, accepting the challenge with a playful air to his tone, “If I can play nice- and if the rest of our line can play nice, even if it’s an act, then what’s your excuse? Or… are you saying you can’t handle it?”

Cut for the reason I listed above: I didn't think it was the best moment to reveal Quick being trans, but also... I just didn't like the way the convo was going. Felt a little too "muahaha we're both plotting >:3" rather than... Flash genuinely caring about Quick and trying to get him to give DRIP a genuine chance. Like it felt like too easy an out for Quick's concerns about changing what makes him him. So ended up replacing it with the scene we have in the fic! But I hope this was cool to see!

Eight hundred years ago, there was a prosperous kingdom known as Xianle.

They were famous for their riches and extravagance, but most of all, they were known for their crown prince.

The Crown Prince of Xianle was pure and beautiful beyond comprehension, and skilled in both cultivation and the arts. By the way he was described and even worshipped, one even could have believed he was a god.

And then, at only seventeen years old, he ascended to heaven and really did become a martial god. The Heavenly Emperor himself even showed an interest in him. Many believed he was the luckiest boy in the three realms.

Three years later, the kingdom of Xianle fell into ruin.

An epidemic raged through the kingdom, leaving untouched only soldiers. On top of that, a part of Xianle known as Yong'An was also locked in a civil war with the capital. Soldiers from Yong'An overpowered the weakened Xianle and took over.

The remaining residents of Xianle blamed their god, their crown prince. If he couldn't cure them or save their kingdom, was he any better than a god of misfortune?

In reality, the Crown Prince of Xianle attempted to save his kingdom and failed. He was banished for descending from heaven to help mortals, and his efforts were for naught.

Soon after his banishment, the Crown Prince of Xianle turned his back on the world. He attempted to summon the disease that had plagued his kingdom, killing his last and most devoted believer in the process.

For hundreds of years, cities and kingdoms were laid to waste by his hand. He taught the crown prince of the new Yong'An kingdom, and then brutally killed the prince's family, wiping out half of the kingdom. Many believe he also orchestrated the downfall of the kingdom of Banyue. He became one of the four heavenly calamities, becoming known as White Flower Collecting Souls as his old name was erased by time. His eerie but docile title led many to underestimate his wrath and evil until it was too late.

For the past century or two, barely anything has been heard of White Flower Collecting Souls, leaving the three realms asking two questions: where has he gone, and when and where will he strike next?

part of the prologue of my hualian swapped role fic! gonna do a part for hc next 👀 I am slowly but surely working out the lore and plot, and I think this fic will probably mostly follow the plot of tgcf with a couple of alterations (still unsure what to do about lang qianqiu and his backstory, but I don't want to spoil whatever I decide to do in case the fic ever gets to that point)

i had a lot of fun writing this part! ive kind of forgotten exactly how the tgcf prologue goes but I tried to base the format loosely on that (the prologue is supposed to be told from an outsider point of view; this is basically XL's legend/myth/established or popular "story")

wow okay, this fic has A LOT of lore. if you don't want to read a fic with a plot full of Plot and Slow Burn then this isn't the fic for you. alternatively, if you're looking for a fic that reads like it should be shoved in the recesses of a dingy library then this might be the fic for you?

the fic:

the phantom's game will be incredibly slow in the beginning because it's basically remus just getting his footing in the world of literature and it's building up to the main plot.

this fic will also be written in three parts (but it will be put all together as one fic in case you want to download it or whatever, it also makes reading easier i think) or at least that's the aim. it may end up being more than three (maybe four MAYBE) and the word count aim is around 100k to 120k words. ideally the fic was to have around 40/50 chapters but as of now im really uncertain about the length (even though i know how it ends lol) because, and im such a nerd for this, but i ended up doing some math about fic chapter length compared to the original work and so far ive gathered that for every 1 chapter in the original work i have 2 chapters for my fic and an additional 1.5k words. it took me forever to work that out please clap. counting words in a book is hard.

the point of view might change from third to first person after part one, which may be a bit confusing so im putting a pin in this idea for now as im not even close to part two (let me know what you think about this!)

this fic is written from the perspective of remus lupin and the main pairing is wolfstar (remus/sirius). main characters are remus, leo ferox (from the fanfiction all the young dudes), and sirius black. other characters are barty crouch jr, lily evans and her father who is an oc; maurice evans and other characters will be added as i write because i cba to actually flesh it out rn (and also i dont want to spoil). there are also minor relationships that are discussed.

trigger warnings/content warnings:

there are quite a few things that happen in this fic that id like to forewarn you of should you decide to read it. there are discussions of abusive parents, substance abuse and violence. in one of the chapters there will be some dubious consent, drugging, there will be descriptions of murder and violence as well as discussions around mental illness and homophobia. discussions/mentions of suicide!!!!

why am i doing this???

i largely wrote this fic because i got high on meds and some other stuff it was wacko and i had absolutely nothing to do. id completely given up in trying to recover my old zombie apocalypse fic (it's a long story) and i really wanted something that i was familiar with not just because i liked the complex and the idea but because i knew it. iykwim?

it's based on a book i read when i was fifteen that got me out of the second largest reading slump in my life and basically catapulted me into the genre of fantasy realism and the whole dark/chaotic academia scene. i also decided that i would continue writing it after my beta @thestrawberryapologist showed interest in it.

another reason why i continued it rather than trying to piece together a nonexistent zombie apocalypse fic was because i have recommended this book COUNTLESS times but it seems no one i recommended it to seemed to like it.

so this is me saying, very passive aggressively, that the plot IS GOOD :(

i smashed the original book in like 2 days and ive been thinking about it for four years straight. i haven't even gotten to reading the other parts of the series because im still hooked on how THIS specific one was written.

its also a really fun (and for me) a new look into the characters because ive really never written anything this detailed before. the plot is a rollercoaster and you HAVE to stay on your toes with the the original work and i would really really like to reflect that onto my writing.

this is also the first time since i was 15/16 that ive properly attempted anything full length with the means to actually finish it off.

when is it going to be finished?

that's a good question. and one i don't know the answer to. it took me 2 months to get to chapter 4 so... it may take a year or two or 6 months dude but it's gonna be long and it's gonna be full
