[PRINT] - [COMMISSIONS]
Ok so the concept for this piece was : historical gay nuns, and 70s lesbian vampire movies meets tes (don't ask me why- I just had a vision at 3 am)
Because I think Serana should have been meaner<3 I love women's wrongs and when vampires do the suck <3
Btw of you want to see more gay Serana art, go check out @gay-of-waterdeep, their art is wonderful, and I can't say this was not a bit inspired by what they do :))
Process (and me rambling about some of my favorite 70s lesbian vampire movies (because I have a problem)) below vvv
Additional details about this drawing ! 1) I used the same Mara design than the one from my tarot deck :)) and 2) the other woman is one of the priestess in the temple in Riften lglggigkglgl her name is *check wiki* Dinya Balu
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And now......... Some movies I enjoy because my house my rules, you came this far so why not hear about niche european movies :))))))
Disclaimer for a majority of the films in this genre : the male gaze is very fucking obvious in these movies... they were made by men for men, and the message is often "lesbianism is a dangerous temptation for women". It's a glairing flaw nearly all of them share and that sucks (and frankly it's a flaw Serana's writting kinda has in my opinion, minus the lesbianism part, but let's not dwell on that)- so if you can't get past it, it's completly understandable, be on your way and have a nice day <3
Tumblr media
- Daughters of Darkness ! A toxic man is returning to london with his newly wed wife, but they get stuck in Belgium and are forced to stay in a luxurious hotel. Don't worry about the 10/10 smokeshow countess seducing his wife :). Completely unrelated, this movie has, in my opinion, the most beautiful lesbian kiss I've ever seen- but I might not be very objective because Delphine Seyrig is there lglglflflllglm The best one in the list ! So if you want to whatch one, whatch this one <3
Tumblr media
- The blood spattered bride ! This is more of... an aquired taste let's say- but I really like it ! A quite effective horror movie, with goofy ass scenes (shoutout to the vampire lady buried in the sand naked with only a diving mask that is not the screenshot because tits), and emasculation being a recuring theme <3 (but if you want to watch it, please check the content warnings beforehand, it has a lot of very shocking and frontal scenes, and it's the 70s so it's not done very tactfully. Also pretty intense flashing lights)
Tumblr media
- The vampire lovers ! Ok so this one is a lot less fun compared to the other two because it's made by the Hammer BUT... 1) Ingrid Pitt hello and 2) it's such a intriging thing to see a very christian/conservative studio make a film like that. I know a lot of people don't like the Hammer movies from the 70s, because the studio had a lot less money, and were making wild decisions. But I love them, because they tend to be much more fun bloody and sexy ! I'm a simple woman mjllkklhkhlhlho case in point with the vampire lovers (although if you want a fun vampire hammer movie from the 70s, Dracula ad 1972 is way better). And Peter Cushing is there (i love this man so much-) !
And now I shall resume my quest to find Vampire Lesbos by Jésus Franco and have a probably mid experience watching it xoxo

I think you came close to real issue. Adaptations do not center on Jonathan and always somehow misrepresent him is because majority of male directors-screenwriters, adapting Dracula, associate themselves more not with Jonathan but with Dracula or Van Helsing. And it didn't begin with Coppola. It began with Murnau where his Hutter doesn't kill vampire and can't save his wife but instead it's his wife Ellen who dies to kill vampire. Then it's Browning who made Van Helsing into cool main hero who kills Dracula, while Jonathan is again useless in the movie. It's Fisher who kills Jonathan off at the start of the movie and again makes Van Helsing into cool main hero, who kills Dracula. So by the time 1970s rolled out and romantic versions of Dracula began to heavily pop up, Jonathan as character on screen was already heavily downgraded.
This honestly hits on something that unhappily fascinates me about the whole pattern. Unlike other stories that see adaptation, however classic or modern, I think the Dracula issue is the only one I can think of where a male main character--one of the two married protagonists! the guy who actually opens and closes the entire story! including beheading Dracula himself!--gets so thoroughly watered down, warped, or often just thrown out of the story entirely. Mina's treatment is unfortunately very much expected.
She is LAST GIRL STANDING. She is NOT ICKY SLUT-LUCY WHO LEADS THREE MEN ON EWWW. She is SO INTO HUNKY HE-MAN DARK PRINCE COUNT FUCKULA and doesn't mind the castle harem or the best friend assault or terrorized/deadified husband whatever who cares.
Mina's character-butchering hell is sadly a running theme in a lot of Classics! Now with (Off-Brand Hollywoodified) Feminism (tm)*!
*She is now simultaneously Mom to a bunch of rowdy dumb-boys and the hot anti-villain wants to do the sex with her so bad and it's sooo tempting because hot anti-villain is sooo much more forward-thinking than these icky Victorian guys ha ha
But Jonathan's situation is unique.
Because Jonathan is broken down for parts.
His sweet ingenue gothic heroine time in Castle Dracula is routinely handed over either to a stand-in (Renfield ala the original Dracula movie) or Random Damsel seen on every book and movie and comic book cover. Because you can't have a man in that situation. And if you do, shovel him out of the story immediately once the hetero-sexy part is over with, ala the Brides closing in. Maybe make him an unfaithful piece of shit who is SO down to ditch boring old Mina for the undead harem.
His stamp as a rightful nemesis-turned-badass vampire hunter is stolen and given to Van Helsing, including his kukri, including the defeat and beheading of Dracula.
His devotion and love for Mina to the point of blasphemy and inhumanity is ripped away and given to Dracula to romanticize and sexify him, which in turn defangs the Count himself. 'Ohhh I just did all this evil because I was depressed and looking for my Love~ :'c' rather than him being one of the most insidiously engaging and chilling villains in classic storytelling.
And all of that implies that writers and directors do like the character of Jonathan Harker...so long as he's split into pieces with the husk that once contained all those facets quickly discarded.
Because if they have to portray Jonathan Harker in his totality, with all his kindness, his femininely coded introduction, his trauma after assault, his adoration of Mina beyond human measure, and his ultimate conquering of Dracula the Monster/Abuser (their idolized macho surrogate) then that does something unthinkable.
That portrays men like Jonathan Harker in a heroic light. In a positive light, period. This milksop! This sweet, loving, bookish, preyed-upon, afraid-then-fierce, walking talking knife-swinging wall-crawling middle finger to the whole idea of the fantasy people project onto Dracula (read: Megabadass Immortal Vampire Man who gets Allll the Ladies Who Totally Wanted It/Had that Victorian Slave Leia routine coming~)! We can't put that on screen!
So what happens, happens.
And Jonathan Harker continues to be harvested for parts without ever, ever getting to be all of himself in a retelling. If he shows up at all.

Lucien Van Serra — at day, a nobel male hidden in his mansion. But at night an even nobler male in the sheets. It is in the dead of night that he worships his victims, praises them, loves them tenderly for the heat of the moment until his fangs pierce the surface of their oh so soft skin, dragging over their throat, drawing blood until the very last ounce.
His prey those oh so lovely mortal females that stroll outside around in the city, that are so easily lured into his mansion, his private chambers, his bed.
He only ever takes what is offered, not once has he forced himself upon one of those beautiful females. They have to consent. The same does not apply for blood–he takes that anyway.
Sometimes more, sometimes less, but always enough to keep him sated. Blood is what brings him pleasure, brings him warmth when his skin turns cold once again, when his heart beats slower, when his soul aches because of loneliness. Oh, and does it get lonely in this large mansion.
He yearns for a partner, a lovely female that wants to spend her life with him. But who would be willing to do so? Who would willingly want to spend the rest of her life with him? Someone like him?
No one.
He is a monster, he knows that, hiding inside his villa for the most part of his life—always actually, safe for the one hour at night he goes out on his hunt.
And it is that time of the night again. A warm autumn night.
Lucien wraps his belt around his waist, fixing his thick cloak of black velvet. His hair, as usual, tied at the nape of his neck. He smoothes his hand over his head once, hoping to fix any strands that are out of place.
He halts for a moment, his gaze moving to the mirror where there is no reflection. The only inkling of what he looks like he has from paintings, paintings an artist called Feyre Archeron has made. She has been brave enough to enter his hell hole, but has stopped that after marrying the mayor of the city Lucien has been living in for centuries. His mansion has since ever been right on the border to the large, dark forest where the least mortals would wander and annoy him by trying to peek inside his home.
The early autumn air is cold when it brushes his skin and the male draws in a deep breath, loving the smell of this season. A sudden feeling of tangy sadness fills his chest – he gets to experience this out here, this freedom, way too little.
The big oak door falls shut behind, rattling the whole old buildling. There is no need for locking it, no one anyways dares to enter this place. People are curious and want to peek inside, but they do not enter just like that. Lucien’s knows that the mothers of this town tell their little children to stay away from this place, from his house, as he would kill them if they entered.
Of course, these kinds of accusations land a blow to his heart, hurt him, but what can he do against them? Those mothers are not fully wrong about him—only that he would never take a child’s life.
Only the mortals who deserve it would die at his hands. And those mortal females that offered themselves up to him, but they did not count, they wanted this themselves, wanted to give themselves to him, knowing what expected them. They were willing prey.
Sometimes Lucien does not really care about his partner, most of the time actually, as long as they consent, he was content. Mostly he is driven by blood lust and is anyways oblivious to any flaws and does not care about what his partners look like.
Not that one particular night, that night he is more sated, the night he goes for a stroll.
And then–
This night changes everything. Because he no longer just needs. He wants. All of the longing, the yearning, increases this night. His loneliness is dreadful because for the first time in his life he has someone to yearn for – two mortal females, young, kind, curious. Rosy cheeks, full lips, bright eyes.
Lucien watches you and Elain from afar, taking an evening walk probably?
But Lucien does not want to ponder what has brought you out here. He decides it was fate that has brought the two of you here and he would never contradict fate.
And so his eyes follow, you, the both of you. Your steps, your bodies, your voices, how you talk, what you talk about. It is like a trance for him, like sweet oblivion, his legs and arms numb, his heart light-weighted, his head foggy, mind clouded with desire.
He finds himself reveling in the sound of your voices, figuring that he could get drunk on your laughs every night and coming to the conclusion he desperately wants to meet you. Not like this though. If he approached you like this, you would scare away, he knows that. He also does not want this to be a thing for one night. He wants this to be…forever. His forever. Your forever.
So an invitation has to follow and since the clever vampire has lived for centuries he has his ways to figure out where you live and who you are.
And so the invitations are sent. To Elain Archeron and Y/N Y/L/N.
You names already taste like heaven on his tongue although hell is the place he belongs to.
Because, although he is a reserved male who wants no company, who does not want people to interfere with his business, there is one day each year where our Lord of fire and blood opens his gates, his doors, when he hosts his ball. Only the brave and fearless come to dance in his halls, drink expensive wine, dine from the finest dishes. Only the bravest and those with invitations.
You and Elain are on the guest list this year, the reason unknown at that point. And so you are not aware how this night will alter your lives forever, how everything will change from then on.
And so Elain, your best friend, and you enter his mansion, anticipation bubbling inside of you and making you both feel bubbly. You are excited, not sure if you are ready for what you will see and you are definitely not ready for what will happen in a few hours. But that is unknown now – at least to the two of you.
The feast presented to you and all guests is outstanding, every possible food served, the finest wines, the tastiest meat, fruits and vegetables. Both Elain and you keep looking around, hoping to steal a glance at the mysterious male hidden behind these walls. You have only ever heard stories and legends, you are obviously curious.
It feels like something –more than this invitation– has drawn you here, like a pull, a tug on your chest. Tingles erupt in your whole body when you think that you might be able to steal a glance at the master leaving inside these walls.
Later that night, tipsy from the finest wine, you and Elain decide to dance, swaying over the floor, the music so beguiling, luring you towards the centre.
Skins clammy with sweat, hearts beating frantically, faces glowing, smiling brightly, he joins you. Slender hands touch your hips when you are pulled back towards a large male behind you, falling against his chest. You revel into the feel of his broad, cool chest and pull Elain with you.
Only when a deep chuckle sounds in your ear, his solid chest rumbling against your back, you know in whose arms you find yourself in. But you find yourself unable to turn, Elain’s hand, that hold yours, tremble because she is looking, her gaze solely focused on the male behind you. Her mouth gapes, eyes wide open, aglow.
Bringing her closer, the three of you move together, as one.
It is a dance filled with desire, heated touches, swirling and twirling, bodies connecting and parting. Everyone around your seems to disappear, merge into the big crowd that starts to vanish as desire clouds your vision. There is only want and need, every other emotion eroded.
And so you do not only enter his mansion, you find yourself following after him, alongside your friend Elain, to the back of his villa where the music is only whisper in the air.
Moving on light steps the two of you enter his bedchamber to continue dancing there–the devil’s tango.
He asks for your consent and you give him your consent. All of you are ready to enter this, although slight hesitation blooms inside both your and Elain’s chest as realisation of what is about to happen dawns on you two.
Lucien’s sharp fangs flash when a grin parts his lips, eyes aglow. “You both look stunning tonight. Lady Elain. Lady Y/N.” You smile, cheeks flushing when you lift your hand and brush it over Lucien’s scar, thumb softly stroking his skin. There is no hesitance in your movement and it nearly draws tears into Lucien's eyes – if he was able to produce such things.
“You are beautiful, my lord.”
A delighted growl is the answer, his desire just as acute as yours.
Lucien lets you both undress him. Tentatively removing the pieces of clothing, you reveal his glorious body underneath, every little inch of it until the male stands, dressed in just the skin he was born with, in front of you. He is stunning, cruel beauty, all hard skin, edges and muscles.
You kiss Lucien’s back, tongue sliding over his left shoulder blade when your hands curl around his waist. He is helping Elain, whose face is a deep beetroot red, undress before sharing a passionate, breathtaking kiss with her. It takes her a little by surprise, making her knees wobble, but she is the one to connect their lips just once again.
You are following, both of them helping you undress because you dress is the most difficult to get off. Once fully bare, you draw in a deep breath and lift your gaze to the male whose skin is like porcelain.
Encouraged by desire, you worship his body, pampering it with sweet kisses, loving touches and soft squeezes. A lot of conversations happens without actually talking, but since Elain and you both have heard the stories about him you are very well aware of what will happen this night. And you are more than ready to give yourself to the Lord of blood – his veins filled with fire and he is said to fuck like this too.
It is Elain who dares to ask a question, her knees wobbly when her hand grabs yours and she steps up next to you. “You will draw blood from us now, won’t you?”
“I will, my lovely flower. But only a little.” “Will it hurt?”
His smile is warm and understanding, his expression sincere and honest. “It will sting a little, but I will be gentle," Lucien says, his voice, the deep tenor reverberating through your bodies, making wet heal pool in your centre and your toes curl. He guides you both over to the luxurious bed, the bed posts made of the most beautiful mahogany, the sheets of velvet red.
You can scent both Elain and Lucien’s arousal, just as poignant as yours, their passion just acute as your own.
It is this want, this primal need, that has not decreased since the very first touch of Lucien hands earlier that evening, it has only gotten more and more intense.
“I can go first,” you quickly say, noticing Elain’s slight discomfort and hesitation. You want to spare her from having to go first, wanting to show her that it is fine. Elain flashes you a warm, thankful smile and you bow your head.
“If that is what you want.” Lucien steps closer to you, hands brushing up your arms and he kisses the top of your head. “I won’t hurt you, my sweet lady.”
You believe him, trust him. He will not hurt you, you know this. And you know that, even though he has this bad reputation. He seems like a generous male who cares about your feelings. He seems to care about you two like no one has ever before. And that is because you also care about him. You know he knows that. Knows that this is not just about physical pleasure.
His erection presses against your belly, when the tall male leans in, and against your skin he says, "May I?"
Your voice is a breathy whisper, your answer a clear yes.
Lips closing over yours, he kisses you deeply, one hand leaving you, he reaches over to Elain, stroking her cheek softly, before his hand grabs you again.
His lips are cool, but soft, plump. Your mouth waters at the thought of what his lips can do and you can barely contain your excitement, grinning into the kiss with pure bliss, while holding back a tiny squeal.
The stunning male carefully places you on the mattress, only to turn to Elain, who flashes him a sheepish grin. “Will you allow me another kiss?”
“Yes” With that his mouth captures hers as well, kissing her deeply, helping the young female move onto the bed as well before breaking the kiss. And then his eyes widen, lips parting slightly.
He silently regards you, eyes on fire, burning flames of fire leaving heat in every place they touch.
“Gods have mercy on me,” he says, fangs shining brightly in the dim room. “The two of you will truly be my end.”
He moves onto the bed, opting to glide up your body, kissing you deeply. But you don’t want him to draw blood immediately, you want him to suffer just a little longer, want his need to be stronger. You want him to beg for a drop of the sweet, thick liquid.
So what you do is curl your leg around his hips, rolling him over. Leaving the kiss, you tilt your head, and with some silent conversation make Elain aware of your plan. She understands, cheeks flushed, strands of hair curling around her face when she nods.
Both Elain and you don’t waste a moment to worship him, your from then on master in the bedroom. You pamper his skin with kisses, moving up and down his body, soft brushes of your fingers and tongues accompanying your actions. There is not much guidance needed, somehow all three of you perfectly fall into place, in a role. Lucien finds himself in a state of ecstasy, his head thrown back, a breathtaking grin blooming on his flushed face.
Your hand, somehow on its own accord, curls around his proud length, stroking slightly which has the male growling. His leg jerks up and when he wants to move, Elain pins him down, arching her brow, eyes glowing with mischief. “Let us play a little, master,” she coos, grinning viciously. Lucien thinks he might just come at her wording, or you handling his cock.
Either thing is too much, and he needs…needs more. And needs blood.
He decides he has let you play long enough and so he moves, now guiding you so he is propped up against the headboard, you sitting beside him, Elain kneeling between his thighs.
“This is what you want?” Lucien asks, softly, his gaze solely focused on Elain.
“I want you in my mouth, yes.”
“Such a good girl.” He speaks with so much admiration, it has both yours and Elain’s toes curling. And without many words being spoken Elain kisses up his thighs, her hand now curling around him, softly stroking. She makes her way up to his groin while the glorious male pulls you in for a kiss. “I will be gentle,” he assures once again, his thumb brushing your cheek. The kiss is needy, full of fire and passion. Damp lips coast lower, brushing over your jaw. You feel heat pool in your core, his scent, his voice, making your toes curl.
His fangs sink in and Lucien groans low in his throat, the sound so guttural and raw it has your knees shaking. Lucien holds you, helping you sit straight while draws the first drop of blood from around the puckered skin of your breast, his tongue latching on your nipple, front teeth teasing the tight bud.
You arch into the strong male, his hand sliding to your backside, squeezing ever so softly. A growl leaves the hungry male when Elain takes him in his mouth, lips closing around the tip, suckling, licking, teasing.
Taking one sip that has his head spinning, his heart racing, Lucien pulls and you feel it in your whole body. You moan, the feeling so overwhelming. Your thighs clench and you fist the sheet next to you, squeezing your eyes shut.
You walls clench around nothing, and so you let one hand travel down your belly, parting your hot flesh, sliding two fingers inside. A warm hand moves over yours, his skin now warmed by your blood and Lucien presses down on your fingers, adding more pressure. When you gasp lightly, he lifts his mouth from your breast, flicking his tongue over the tiny dots, and grins at you, his brow lifted.
But the moment is only short, his lips close over the spot once again, the skin already a bit darker from the bruising kiss he leaves there. The same moment Elain’s hand falls to the apex of her thighs, she moans loudly around Lucien and can feel him twitch, knowing he is close.
Fueled by the taste of your blood he cannot last too long and his undoing is when Elain swallows around him, teeth grazing his sensitive skin. Lucien sharply pulls back from your boob, his face clammy with sweat, eyes ablaze, lips blood streaked. “In you?” The flick of her tongue against the crown of his cock is answer enough and Lucien lets go of every restraint he had on himself. Hips no longer moving with shallow movements, now jerking up, pounding into Elain, his hand–the one not occupied with you, holding her head down. He no longer drinks from you, just kisses you with hunger, desire and lust. His fingers still resting over yours, his thumb caresses your clit, pushing you over the edge the same moment his hot release fills Elain's mouth.
You feel a bit dizzy, he has not taken that much blood but some and for someone not used to that it can make them feel and so Lucien suggests you to take a little from Elain. She agrees, you are her best friend after all, and especially after that night you will be closer than ever before.
His fangs once again pierce her skin, on her wrist, he brings his arm to your mouth, letting you drink. You almost want to cry at the taste–she tastes absolutely succulent, sweet and spicy.
Lucien, the glorious and completely misunderstood male he is, makes sure you don’t take enough because you are greedy and can’t get enough. He lets Elain feed from him as well, her lips and tongue hungrily suckling on his skin, his blood, and then he worships her, while you worship him.
Later that night your bodies come together once again, moving in perfect sync. You devour each other in more than one way, sweet love making followed by some rougher, harder sex that has all of you gasping, panting for air, and cursing the gods and lord above.
Only when you fall to the mattress, fully spent and sated, you know that this is what you want for the rest of your life. Not one day would you want to spend without the two of them. You share this with them, Elain’s heavy-lidded gaze lifting to you from Lucien’s chest, her hand placed over his heart. You own head is placed on the other side of his chest, his arms around the both of you, the thick velvet blanket covering you all.
“Perfection,” Lucien drawls, his lids closing when he hears your breathing getting heavier, knowing both of you will sleep soon. And you will sleep in this bed for the rest of your lives.

IWTV 2022 INSP - You Must Think Me An Idiot!
Lestat: Ah. Quite drunk, this one. Rosemary…and something else. What is it, my love? Louis: I-I think it's the gin. Lestat: I wasn't talking to you. ???: Laudanum. Arsenic. *Antoinette unmasks herself* Lestat: *smugly* She was at the ball tonight! Like one of those girls on the telephone switchboard, eavesdropping in on things that she shouldn't. Antoinette: *mockingly quoting* "Too late, I've done it already.... One of the twins. He'll be dead on his feet in an hour." You miserable dogs! All: *angry vampire hissing* *Lestat grabs Louis, Antoinette grabs Claudia* Antoinette: DRINK! Louis: No! Lestat: Claudia should never have been made, Louis. Look what she did to us--she's corrupted everything! Antoinette will be MUCH more agreeable to our life together-- *nausea, vomits poisoned blood!* All: !?!?! Claudia: *fights Antoinette off, stabs her with fire-irons* Antoinette: *dying gasp* Claudia: *smugly* Lestat, you must think me an idiot!
-- Interview with the Vampire, S01E07
MY THOUGHTS (turnt up at Queen Claudia's Coronation 🍻🥳🥂)
CLAUDIA IS THE FRIKKIN GOAT! ^0^
Tumblr media
It's deliciously sad that no matter in what iteration or adaptation, this little girl will ALWAYS get the drop on Lestat, like...dang, dude. 🤣
Tumblr media
Claudia's murder plot played out in the movie like a frikkin jumpscare--WOAH, she's a savage, queen, SLAY! 👸🏼🔪 But on the tv show she's a stone cold tactician EXTRAORDINAIRE. It is outright told to us that Claudia has all of these chess moves she's laid out. But the real suspense comes from how she'll pull it off; when it'll happen.
Tumblr media
Then out of nowhere effing Antoinette pops up like a herpes flareup, and this grown effing adult is bigger & stronger than "built-like-a-bird" Claudia, grabbing Claudia by her hair and tryna force her to drink the twin's poisoned blood. And you might think oh no, all is lost! But YE OF LITTLE FAITH!
Tumblr media
That's what happens to homewrecking side-chicks who put their 9-fingered hands on someone else's CHILD. THOU 👏 SHALT 👏 NOT 👏 COVET 👏 LOUIS' 👏 MAN--it never ends well, just watch Fatal Attraction! 👀 Now look at you--curb-stomped! Look at Lestat--poisoned! And Lestat, this is all YOUR fault, for cheating & beating on your husband, clown!
Tumblr media
Ahhhh, Claudia's the best. (^_^)
"Antoinette will be MUCH more agreeable to our life together--" are you HIGH!? The copium must've been hitting HARD, for him to think LOUIS--let alone that jealous nasty Antoinette--would be happy living comfy frikkin cozy in his Brides of Dracula harem, meanwhile Louis' daughter was dead. Antoinette's death was Lestat's fault from the start, dragging her into his mess.
In the book, Lestat's male sidepiece Antoine also got burned a bit after Louis set Lestat on fire, but Antoine got away & survived, even though he was hella messed up for like, years. But I'm glad AMC put all that crap to bed, and made sure Antoinette's butt was cooked, once and for all.
Tumblr media
Cuz Claudia takes ZERO prisoners. 👸🏽👑
Unfortunately for her, however, LOUIS certainly does.... >_>
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Louis, my love...get help. U_U
Tumblr media
Like I always say: Lestat got off LIGHT. AMC didn't even let Lestat get set on fire & nommed on by alligators. 😩 You can't win 'em all, I guess, but at least Claudia got Antoinette the heck on outta here, at least~! 👌

So I Watched "Monster Force"...
Tumblr media
After watching Captain Simian and the Space Monkeys (which I seriously recommend, it's pretty charming and decently written), a friend and I decided to watch other old and somewhat obscure cartoons. In between episodes of Action Man (1995), I found Monster Force.
Monster Force was a 1994 cartoon based on the Universal Studios line of monster movies. Only getting one season, although all 13 episodes are known to exist, only 9 of them seem to have been saved and uploaded online to be watched.
First and foremost: it's not good. Or at least, it's not terrible. But it's absolutely not well-written. In 9 episodes, I could not tell you anything about most of the recurring cast.
The writing puts too much emphasis on the "job" of the story, or the progression of events themselves. It's hard to describe, but it's like there's no time to breathe, no opportunities taken to explore the characters in any way beyond their job. It uses the characters as extremely shallow chess pieces to give exposition and advance the plot with next to no personality. Most of the characters talk too similarly to each other or just talk very flatly and clinically, and all in sarcastic quips and jokes, to stand out on their own in any significant way.
Of the embarrassingly forgettable recurring cast, only 3 stood out to my friend and I in a positive way:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Luke Talbot, descendant of Larry Talbot (aka The Wolfman), and one of the only two monsters on Monster Force (along with Frank, aka Frankenstein's Monster). His whole thing is that he's trying to find the werewolf that bit his grandfather Larry, with the intent of killing him so as to end his curse of lycanthropy.
Outside of his built-in plot device goal, Luke has little personality, just like most of the cast. And given he uses his lycanthropy so much, his textual loathing for his curse comes off as forced and without depth. The only reason my friend and I like him is because we find his werewolf form hot.
Tumblr media
Like come on. If this show were more popular and better I feel like this image would be on a lot of backgrounds and edits.
Tumblr media
Count Dracula was absolutely a stand-out character. His voice performance by Robert Bockstael was likewise a stand-out in a show full of phoned-in, flat acting from everyone else. He's got drama, charisma, cruelty, and an accent. And similarly, unlike everyone else's ugly and overdesigned dieselpunk mechsuit (EMACS) designs, his was actually simple, yet well-made, pleasing and dramatic.
Aside from those crazy side-goatees??? Granted, they look like spider pincers, which may be intentional, so I guess that's cool?
Tumblr media
The very first episode had him try to force Luke to embrace his lycanthropy and join his forces of evil as a full monster (which we enjoyed bc Gayyyy). He also tries to recruit Frank and other actually evil monsters to his cause, but in the 9 episodes was never successful.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Commander Honor Santiago, a security officer working for Hyper-Gen. She mostly stood out because she was sooooo butch lesbian-coded. Strong square face, short & slicked hair, earrings in one(?) ear, and she seemed torn between her duty to recapture the escaped Bride of Frankenstein('s Monster) (who had escaped the facility she worked for) and being disturbed by her mistreatment at the hands of her superior, Dr. Ducaine.
Honestly, I feel like there was a lot of potential for Honor and The Bride to get together, but of course The Bride ends up rejecting both Frank (and other monsters) and humans alike in favor of living alone, and Honor ends up as a love interest for de facto male lead Reed Crawley (the guy she's looking at). I have no clue if this was intentional coding that got comphet'd because it was the 90s, or just a bunch of coincidences. But if more young girls saw her, I'm sure she'd have been lots of girls' awakening.
Of the 9 extant episodes, there were only 3 episodes I could decidedly call "character-focus episodes" - episodes that focus on one character of the cast in particular. Which is funny, you'd think they'd do that for every main character at least once (there are 6 main characters, so there should be room). Of those 3, two of them are only ostensibly in this category because they still didn't feel focused enough, and only one of them I "liked" - because it focused on Luke going after the source of his curse, and so there were lots of nice Werewolf Time.
The one episode my friend and I regard fairly positively is not among those 3 focus episodes: Episode 7, "Dark City"
Tumblr media
After 6 shallow, empty episodes, this one (written by Mary Crawford and Alan Templeton) was actually pretty interesting and freaky! The premise of the episode is that the gang are stuck in a living town that's a grotesque monster (the whole thing!) that every so often pops out of the aether to lure entire nearby populations into itself to eat.
The episode doesn't really explore that premise in a way other cartoons would/it should have (i.e. the gang falling under its allures for more than 2 minutes, or spending more time investigating recent disappearances, or the strangeness of the town longer before it reveals itself... y'know, things you'd do in competent writing). Where it excels is purely in the visual execution of its concept.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The background/environmental artists for this episode did a really nice job of making this place so gnarly and disturbing in its monstrousness. A living city with eyes, teeth, horns and tentacles built into buildings and walls, how normal environments can transform into something horrifying and organic in the blink of an eye (like this stairwell). It's awesome, and calls to mind Queensland from Alice: Madness Returns.
Now, of course, this show was among the litany of cartoons made toys-first and everything else came afterwards as a glorified commercial. It just wasn't successful at making an attractive commercial of itself at all. It's rather baffling and embarrassing how a crew of people being paid to write managed to do so poorly, even if they must have had very little time to write and review/update drafts.
To cap off a slew of mediocre with some inside jokes:
Tumblr media
"You better not be a Cunty Frankenstein when I get there!"
Tumblr media
"They pick her up like the fútbol."

Homophobia and absolutely no gaydar (Dracula related)
I had to remove someone from my Horror Comics Facebook group for some blatant homophobia.    I guess they (yet again) forgot who created that group...
They also went in a weird tangent about how straight Count Dracula is...  Apparently pissed off because I mentioned that Marvel's Dracula is confirmed as pan now. Many literary experts believe the character of Renfield was a reflection of Stoker's guilt for being attracted to Henry Irving (The actor who inspired Dracula's look in the novel).      The German production of Frank Wildhorn's Dracula the musical had grooms beside brides.     The 1936 film Daughter of Dracula was as gay as it could be despite the Hayes code.   It was so gay that a night club was opened in San Francisco named Dracula's Daughter in honor of the non-straight nature of that movie.  The song "Fresh Blood" in Dracula the musical has Dracula literally announce he wants Jonathan Harker and Mina. "You and your Mina, you'll live forever..."    Dracula was also interested in a man in Boom Comics Dracula: In the Company of Monsters (2011) where he stalked the male protagonist the way he does women in most films.    Steven Moffat's Dracula is bisexual. Dario Argento's Dracula (2012) was bisexual, according to the director.       There is a deleted scene from 1992's Bram Stoker's Dracula indicating that Renfield thought Dracula would be his lover but he "Lost him to that pretty woman."    The 2004 Dracula the musical has "The master's song reprise" where Dracula is literally inches from kissing Renfield on the mouth.    Jerry Dandridge (who was confirmed as secretly being Dracula in the Fright Night 1985 novelization) had a live-in male "companion" in the original movie.     Marvel's Dracula is not the only one that had male and female lovers.    I can't imagine being THAT oblivious and having that low of a gaydar as to think Dracula was ever straight...       It reminds me of when I was in an Anne Rice fan group on Yahoo back in the 90s and a Louis fan couldn't accept that Anne Rice's vampires aren't straight.   I got an angry caplocked "MY PRINCE CHARMING IS STRAIGHT!!!" in response to a post where I pointed out that Lestat and Louis were lovers...  Universal Studios forbid scenes of Bela Lugosi biting men because they felt the character was already "too gay".  But yeah, sure, buddy, you go and convince yourself Dracula was straight this whole time.    Wait until he finds out about Carmilla. Or Dracula's son being bi in Castlevania (Netflix series).

hello! sorry for the long ask, but your Compromise series lives in my head rent-free. this question has crawled into my brain and refuses to leave when I try to chase it out with a broom, so here it is - I don't expect you to answer this directly, of course, but I'm really curious about the acknowledgement that Jonathan is currently the only male "bride", but that there have previously been others that Dracula has killed (or that otherwise failed to survive, either by suicide or the transformation into a vampire not taking correctly?). I keep wondering what the difference is that would lead Dracula to be more inclined to kill his male captives than his female ones. at first I figured it was something to do with him just being more accustomed to killing men in life as a warlord, but that doesn't really hold water, since he's definitely killed plenty of women and thought nothing of it. it must be something to do with what he expects of the men he keeps, since I think both men and woman would probably have relatively similar reaction(s) to being held captive like that, and it doesn't seem like Vlad would have a particularly hard time handling it. as far as I can tell at the moment, he seems way more willing to kill a male captive for doing something he'd allow a female captive to survive (if only after horrendous torture). I wonder if he even knows why, himself. does he... value them less? is it somehow tied up in his preoccupation with a very specific power dynamic that kind of leans on him being in a patriarchal role? he seems to treat ecaterina, ileana, adriana, mina and jonathan basically the same (the only major difference being in how long they've been around him and how much trouble they've previously caused him, in jonathan and mina's case). I really love your explanation for why there aren't any other male captives (whoops, all murdered), because it introduces a whole bunch of questions about Mr Dracula and His Whole Deal. thanks for reading this huge block of text, and no worries if you can't answer in full, or at all!
Hi! Thank you for writing and sharing your experience of the series; it's thrilling to know that you have been giving it so much thought.
You're right that I'm not going to answer this question directly, but I am going to suggest a couple areas on which to put attention, which you may be onto already -
First - on this topic, what information do we (/you/the reader) know and what has been implied? Who of the characters speaking about this topic knows what happened, and who is making assumptions about it?
Second - if I'm doing my job right, gender should be functioning in a complex and sometimes slanting way throughout the series. There are ways that Mina and Jonathan are being treated differently, and while a lot of that has to do with their particular personalities and journeys into their undeath, some of it has gendered dimensions. There are sparks of this earlier in the series, but in particular, I suggest you pay attention to what we see of Jonathan's experience and relationship with Dracula in Appraisal versus what we see of Mina's in Keys/Distance, and where that has left both of them.
Finally - I don't give all of you a lot on this, but what kind of things is Dracula worried about in this series? What does he fear? Where does he see clearly and what is he missing?

BITTERSWEET LOVE.
Tumblr media
" her lover, in numberless forms, in countless lives, time after time, he wouldn't let her go..."
The doors slam shut on their own in her desperate pursuit for freedom, the loud echo traveling the length of the tall, massive walls.
Slowly, Y/n crumbles to her knees at the foot of the heavy doors, her hands planted on the surface; she hits the wood once with her palm, frustration and hopelessness bubbling at the back of her throat.
The sound of his shoes clicks the solid floors leisurely, tap, tap, tap.
She feels his presence before he even steps out of the shadows, the moon's rays that stream through the high windows of the castle bathing his ungodly ethereal features in a sheen of light. Y/n turns her head to him and stands up, her dress swaying with her motions. She searches for a trace of something into his dark eyes, a sliver of disinterest, a change of heart一 but there's nothing.
"Taehyung, let me go." she says, defeated.
Suspense holds her at an impasse as the male circles her, awakening goosebumps on her skin. There's an underlining intimidation to his pacing, his gaze tracking her body like the touch of a licking flame. It does things to her that she's not proud to admit...
"And why would I do that?" Taehyung stops in front of her, tilting his head to the side as an elegant brow crinkles.
"You have three brides, you don't need me." she starts, catching a glimmer of hope. She thinks she might persuade him with this argument, maybe he would listen to her this time and realize that she's a nobody next to those other vampire women who are like him: graceful, seductive, majestic. Though, her intuition, which she should have heeded from the moment she set foot past the threshold of his domain, tells her otherwise.
"I don't..." he recognizes that fact nonchalantly, his long legs bringing him closer to her. His lashes are like the delicate yet deadly flutter of a spider, deep eyes pinning her down as his fingertips dance to the column of her neck, tracing her pulse.
"But you're different, I want you."
Her breath is trapped, Y/n hates the effect he has on her, the alluring danger emanating off of him enveloping her from all sides.
"You can't have me." she spats in a spur of anger, refusing to succumb.
Taehyung smirks, the kind that wears a second edge, one of temptation, the other of damnation, the kind that's the stalemate before the viper bite.
"Nothing on this Earth will make you be anything else other than mine. Not even you."
Y/n gasps at the sudden yanking of her head back, his teeth sinking into her throat.
An amalgamated wave of pain and pleasure inject her bloodstream and flow through her body like poison, the hand fisted in her hair and the arm around her waist locking her in a cage of euphoria...

new day, new dracula, new analysis of the female gothic!
i really want to talk about jonathan's identification with the long-lost women of this castle. when he finds what he thinks of as 'ladies' chambers', he starts imagining them more concretely, and relates to them specifically as women left behind by war, knowing that there is peril "out there" beyond the castle and they are powerless to stop it. Really this seems like a projection of jonathan's own situation; he too is powerless to prevent the danger that threatens him. both he and the hypothetical women fear death—the women know that if their men die and fail, the war will come to them and the castle will be beseiged or taken, while jonathan knows that the horror he fears is *already* inside the castle and the reason it hasn't killed him yet is known only to it.
about the female gothic again: the concerns of the female gothic are largely, the supernatural used to express anxieties about women's status. women being too emotional, too rational, threats to their wellbeing, inheritance, etc, all these show up. the end goal of a woman in the Gothic, if it's meant to have a good ending, is generally that she ends up more well-suited to her life (of marriage, as a wife, as someone who well fulfills the course of what a woman's life should look like).
jonathan, as i mentioned before, is here just before he gets married, a particularly perilous point in the life of a gothic heroine. Once marriage is assured, presumably a good spouse will protect the gothic heroine from any threats, and spousal authority will supersede the villainous/supernatural masculine authority. before marriage, however, the heroine is absolutely subject to said villainous masculine authority. we see jonathan suffering from this authority; dracula controls everything (keeping him up at night, making him sleep during the day, controlling where he goes, what information leaves and enters the castle, etc).
we also have some actual women to talk about the female gothic with! the "brides" (i saw a really interesting theory that two of these women are actually dracula's daughters) have finally appeared, and we see that they too are subject to dracula's authority. as supernatural/villainous figures, however, they seek to defy it, acting outside of prescribed female ways by circumventing Dracula's orders (as Jonathan himself just did). we see this a lot in female gothic places, where the supernatural forces are linked with 'bad women', aka women who fail to be feminine in some way or another. one example is the mad wife from Jane Eyre; the previous wife of the male love interest, she is villainous because she suffers from some kind of mental instability that caused her to fail to act the part of a good housewife—thus she becomes the ghost haunting the attic rather than, say, a rival for the love interest's affections.
the inclusion of an infant for the three women to eat, besides being reminiscent of antisemitic blood libel, also goes with this 'bad femininity' aspect of the female gothic. rather than acting maternally, and caring for a child, they do the exact opposite. i think the same principle is in place in the way they refer to their attempts to eat from jonathan as 'kisses'; rather than amorous kisses, as jonathan might expect from a young woman (see his initial expectation of a scandalous chance encounter with some pretty ladies), they mean to injure him and possibly kill him. they frame their supernatural schemes within the same lines as a 'bad' female action (kissing etc outside of marriage is, of course, a no-no).
dracula's response to the encounter is also very much the female gothic; the masculine authority intervenes, reasserting his authority over both the other supernatural and over the non-supernatural protagonist, in a way that tinges his domination of the protagonist with affection. he even undresses jonathan before bed after jonathan swoons—dracula's authority has gone so far as to perform simple actions for jonathan when dracula decides they need to be done and jonathan can't/won't do them. it's absolutely a violation that crosses several boundaries, which in this genre is the point. jonathan's ability to keep himself calm AND his ability to make his own decisions, and control his own life, is fast eroding.

Hi Carmen!! I'm going to shoot some similar questions back at you, cause they were a lot of fun to answer!
What is Halloween like in the DaVille house? Who dresses up? Who hates it? Who thinks it's stupid but gets dragged into the mess anyways? What would some of the characters dress as?
Since you said Crawford is a bit of a prankster, does he ever set up pranks or traps around Halloween? Does the hoes help? Can it decorate itself for holidays? (I just love the mansion, and I wanna know all about it. <3)
~Morri🗡️ (@memento-morri-writes)
ohohohoho Halloween in Clay River Manor is a Thing(tm)
So Isobel, Ivy and Gwen hate Halloween. They think it's a kid's festivity that portraits magic in the wrong way and that it should not be celebrated blah blah... Basically they are killjoys😒
But Crawford is the Heir and the cousins surprisingly agreed to fight their mothers/aunts and decorate everything and dress up
So, Florian, Spence, Max and Royce are always up for dressing up. The triplets do group costumes (their highlight was going as the Rowdyruff Boys (the male version of the Powerpuff Girls cause they match the colors of them), Pokémon trainers and when they were little Max would dress up as Frankenstein, Royce as Dracula and Spence as a spirit or a ghost), and Florian gets more creative, using the things he finds on the attic of the house to use as costumes (and he pulls it off reaally well)
Florian also persuades Gabrielle into dressing up with him and last Halloween they went as Wednesday and Cosimo Addams. Both groups go trick or treating downtown to Duskshore but have to be in the house before midnight.
Isaac does not particullary love nor hates Halloween, although he loves to learn about the story of the tradition and how it evolved into what it is today. Since he is dating Sol, they both dress up as a couple costume and volunteer at the library or the school to supervise the student's party.
Isadora gets invitied to all the popular parties and you bet she goes. She is popular in Duskshore, not only because of her name or power, or because she is pretty but because she makes everyone feel special. She likes dressing up but doesn't put much effort on her costumes, almost always using clothes she already has to make them. Some of her most popular costumes have been Kim Possible, Corpse Bride, Bloom from Winx and Draculaura from Monster High.
I think Carwford and Elaine are the ones who have more fun of the whole lot. Of course there's always gonna be the challenge of going up to Clay River Manor and idk taking a picture, or knocking on the door or something. And, the thing is that the house is not haunted, so nothing bad would happen...But they make it happen. Every single Halloween Elaine and Crawford become partner in crime/rivals, and they turn the little forest that surrounds the manor as well as the trail that goes up to it into a Haunted House, scaring as many children as they can. At the end of the night they compare results over a bowl of candy on the sofa.
Clay River Manor used to help until Isadora herself got scared and she stormed into the House yelling because she had fake blood all over her. Since then, the house is only allowed to do the usual stuff: open and close doors, make floors creak, blow out candles and make lights flicker... Spooky stuff that won't give a heart attack to anyone (at the end of the day, Clay loves everyone in there and wouldn't like to hurt them). It does decorate itself but not with banners or pumpkin torches, that is all Da Ville work; but somehow the house gets that...old mansion that doesn't look abandoned but you think is definitely haunted vibe (Clay just puts a bit of dust here and there on its front and maybe lets loose some roof tiles for the aesthetic haha)
Another adition to Clay was a set of speakers that Crawford asked Isaac for, and from last Halloween on it also plays some Halloween music (My Girlfriend is a Witch, the Addams Family theme song, This is Halloween.... you know the drill)

Ugh I'm late again - Diary of a Big Ole Gay 02/06/2023
Hey Whores sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I am one tardy ass whore lately, sorry about that.
Tumblr media
(me casually forgetting what I'm doing on this app all the time)
so I it the I guess only 6 days since my last review huh I managed to set up a parttime gig with a local eatery so bitch your whores job search is over!!!!
Tumblr media
(me when they ask me why I want to work for them)
on that note I have been very lazy this week. Also I have come down with a head cold which is very gross and has left me tired during my screduled "watching a movie because it gives me seratonin" hours.
So I have taken a couple days off this week but I still managed to watch a few, courtesy of Internet Archive. They pages don't always index in the search engine but I was able to 5 (additional) films on there. (for you queer cinema sluts Queen Christina, I was a Male War Bride, Olivia, The Strange ONe, Tea and Sympathy, and Reflections in a Golden Eye.), which is great because I have no budget for this project and that saved me 25 bucks. The only bad news this week is that HBO MAX no longer carries Cat People (1942). SAD
Tumblr media
Draculas Daughter (1936) dir. Lambert Hillyer
Draculas Daughter is the sequel to the classic Universal Picture Dracula (1931), (yes I have seen the original), based on a short story excised from the original Bram Stroker Novel. That is that it is only tangentently related to said short story and the whole production rights is due to a lot of really boring behind the scenes drama. You get it its hollywood it has to be tied to some kind of IP.
In this one Dracula has a daughter who doesn't want to be a vamp and is fighting her vampiric origins going to the point of calling up a psychoanaylsist to cure her of her urges. Oh by the way this is protrayed onscreen is her ravising a young damsel with her titties out.
So yeah vampirism in this film is like totally not a metaphor for being a lesbian, HAES PRUDES, (wink).
Supposedly, the queer overtones were toned down in the final project but you still have what is objectable a pretty queer character and even the marketing plays into it, (she gives you that weird feeling).
Now this film while interesting is rather slow so this is definetly only for the serious lesbian vampire lover, for those more casual into the scene may I recommend its unofficial remake, Nadja (1994). Oh which we must always stan and simp for.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Queen Christina (1933) dir. Rouben Mamoulian
Queen Christina is a historical drama based on the biography of Queen Christina of Sweedan. so lets talk about her for a sec.
Chrisitina of Swedan was a monarch from 1626 - 1689, in which she abdicated her throne for a variety of reasons, including the fact that she had converted to catholicism. She was raised, "as a boy", in the sense that her father gave her a education and allow her to persue masculine persuits. She was well known for dressing in a masculine fashion which rose to rumors that she was either a lesbian or intersex. Oh wait theres a great quote for this.
According to Veronica Buckley, Christina was a "dabbler" who was "painted a lesbian, a prostitute, a hermaphrodite, and an atheist" by her contemporaries, though "in that tumultuous age, it is hard to determine which was the most damning label".
The rumors of her being intersex seems to be unsubstantiated and it should be noted that when you look at a lot of historical gender varient people theres a lot of push to find a biological essentialist view on why. Famous Trans people like Lily Elbe and Christina Jorgensine had intersex qualities so people try to find out if some random butch dyke from the 17th century had overian cysts because thats clearly the only reason why a woman would like to wear pants.
However there is a lot stronger evidence that she liked to eat that kitty. Pictured above is a fictional version of Ebba Sparre who she has a sort of Rosalind relationship with. Its intimate but like they totally just friends. In real life its very likely that they were lesbain lovers.
The actually film itself keeps the butch elements of Queen Christina life but gives both of these women a nice little heterosexual romance. I feel that the strength of the film comes from Greta Garbos performance, she was a WLW and she has this type of Glamour.
Like Dietrich she plays this sexual vivacious almost femme tops. Its very bisexual, very commanding, and there is something just scruptious of all these butch dykes in 30s films. They were like we want woman wearing pants, we want mommy to step on us.
What I'm saying is that Cate Blanchette in Nightmare Alley is historcial accurate.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Orpheus (1950) dir. Jean Cocteau
This is the second film in the Ophic Trilogy by Jean Cocteau. The whole thing is a bunch of abstract experimental films playing around with these notions of the artist and more specifically the myths of Orpheus (duh) and Narcissis, (thats where all the mirror stuff comes in).
There are a lot better and more thourough essays on the topic but essentially the versions he uses are kinda gay Cocteau is super gay and its just him being a little gay having fun and having a blonde twink simp for a butch dommy mommy.
its not the most explicet gay film like Un chant d'amour but as an arthouse film its actually pretty cool. I would recommend you check it out.

Everything Else I Watched
So It turns out not much. I watched the Bowery (1994) by Sara Driver. It was a 10 minute experimental doc that she shot about the Bowery Street in New York. It is very cool and very fun to watch its on Le Cinema Club at the time of writing.
I also watched two random silent comedies that were on my watchlist but I was very drunk when I watched them so I don't remember much.
