i dont know how to articulate this correctly but... sometimes i think about how saiki is so mentally disconnected and isolated from other people, and his powers make it feel impossible to understand them, esp because he hasnt had any faith in humanity since he was a kid (hes also so autistic but shh he probably doesnt know yet)

and so he truly doesnt understand the nuances and complexity of love+friendship+relationships etc... so imagine how confused he could get during times where his relationships get deeper/more complicated

examples ?? (warning for very brief sa+abuse+suicidal thoughts mention in the second one) -

accidentally making one of his friends mad and hearing their thoughts, which are purely from frustration and anger in the moment, about hating and not wanting to be around him.. makes him think they genuinely dont want to be as friend at all anymore, so ONE argument makes him think hes ruined his friendship with them forever and he doesnt think to just apologize, immediately shutting down and just "going away" instead because he thinks thats actually what they want

not understanding why people feel sympathy for him when he talks about tragic things in/about his life, especially when he even dulls it down as to not reveal his powers, (ie: his brother literally trying to murder, humiliate, and borderline sa him OR having one or multiple bullying incidents in elementary school that caused him to lose all his friends and change schools OR saying that the only reason he decidedly hasnt offed himself yet is cuz itd make his mom sad) and mentioning those things a little too casually, then thinking people are trying to pity him and telling the people who are just trying to help to shut the fuck up ƪ(˘⌣˘)ʃ

^a specific but not quite as angsty one, offhandedly mentioning once that he had a big crush on a guy from another class but he helped set them up with someone else even though it upset him, because he just wanted to see him happy and he never had a chance anyway (bro was def straight too) and his friends being like ...hey thats really sad im sorry you felt like that :(( and him being like ?? whats sad about that. hes happy, and its not like im completely devastated or anything. shut the fuck up.

teruhashi getting over her crush on him and no longer seeking him out as often, and he's immediately upset and confused because now he thinks that she ONLY cared about him when she thought she was going to get something more than friendship from it so he doesnt believe she ever saw him as a true friend..

(similar to the first one, slightly different situation) getting into an argument with one of the friends he sees every single day and still expecting them to at least BE there the next day, and when they arent because theyre avoiding him, his first thought isnt "i should seek them out and apologize" its "wow it was so easy for them to just let go of me, i clearly have formed a dependency and feel like i need them more than they need me. especially now that i know they dont feel the same, i should sever that attachment."

Kalim in RSA (and I get off-topic)

Spoilers for Book 4 and 5 (im sorry jamil enjoyers. but im so biased towards kalim its not even funny)

(this spiraled into me talking all about kalim in the actual game so oops)

imagine how different the story would be if kalim was in RSA

and we just hear from jamil about these snippets about his 'master' (although itd be weird they'd be separated if jamil tended to him often to where he'd prob be like his personal servant? idk what situation would have jamil talk to us anyway but yknow maybe we get close, he's like the other friend who seems cool? he'll basically help us out with knowledge about things, fleshing out the world a bit more, as the only sophomore in the group cause he kind of feels responsible maybe? then BETRAYAL)

and then eventually partway through the school year KALIM IS THERE (we know why though) and he somehow ends up housewarden.

i have a dislike against RSA. its very petty and its kind of because they keep winning (and they dont even mean ill intent which is worse! …but its kind of like kalims kindness. and i like kalim but that might make me biased. SO. thus the existence of this.)

we probably wouldnt like him much right? (and i imagine he'd get his fair share of bullies. we find this out. he laughs it off like 'nah, im used to attempted assassinations and everything. this isnt nearly as bad.')

HES aware enough that he can cook food good using JUST magic (which takes precision to use it as good or even better than your hands right??. its in his labwear vignette. ruggies teaching him ofc so ruggie wants it to be good cause hes taking leftovers, BUT CMOONNN he can learn. ..and yeah it took a few years for jamil to teach kalim antidotes to common poisons so he could do it easy but kalims hardly a master at making potions so i call that good)

AND in book 5 he noticed vil had like the same look as jamil to where he knew something was going to go wrong (aka the poisoning)

maybe its to show how much kalim doesnt belong in NRC and thats why they dont pull the 'more than he looks at first glance' like cater with glimpses in vignettes and etc

but like COME ON.

the sultan might be dumb (i recently re-watched aladdin) but at least he knew enough that he didnt want jafar marrying his daughter cause hes OLD and also he doesnt want to force jasmine into anything (good intentions. im sure if they just waited and she didnt find a suitor in time he would've just CHANGED THE LAW like he did IN THE MOVIE because he wants her to be happy!)

ALSo he tried to look through the law jafar claimed to say that would make her have to be married to the vizier or whatever (aka jafar) but then jafar just pulled it away before he could (and then attempted to mind control him when he refused) mans was prepared to spend hours reading over it even if he didnt understand it but he wasnt given the chance

also kalim is worryingly nonchalant about stuff. i mean. you can get used to horrible things to where they just feel so normal and uninmportant i guess? but poor bby. hes been like 'i want to keep myself alive because if i die then someone else will get punished.' or like about poisoning, if someone has a change of mind and hes already dead, then he cant do something to help them, so he has to make sure he'll live.

..i really doubt that hes just. so oblivious. maybe in denial, but still.

anyway i got very off topic. my bad. and to be fair we do get to see more of him at some parts. but hhh

okay listen. denial. (i am also a believer that if when kalim confronted jamil, if he said he didnt do anything kalim wouldve believed him. bruh gave him excuses like '..i just got tired, right?')

ANYONE ELSE. you also cant notice shit if no one ever tells you about it that you dont even know to look for it! he doesnt want to be cautious about who he can trust so like, why would he think to doubt the person who hes known his entire life??? especially if its something that was just always there that it feels natural, how could he know better? hes sheltered! so someone shouldve explained it to him, made him realize things! aghhh)

And I mean maybe he did learn in that he's more aware of this now than others because he knows what people could look like because of Jamil, but I feel like a lot of things were just so unsaid. That the first time blindsided him, but now he's kind of a little more worried about something happening while he's there that he didn't notice so now he's trying to notice things more??? Or like maybe having gut feelings that he'd ignored before because it was Jamil but now knowing better?

So he can be aware. but then the rest of the time he's just thought of as dumb or an idiot or forgetful and it just makes me sad. and i mean i get that he wants to see the best in people but we never really talk about how its more that its denial. a refusal to see it, and i want to understand why

or maybe its because he sees the good in people that he trusts they'll do the right thing. or he believes that the good outweigh the bad (although i dont know if it'd be the same case if it was someone he knew who got hurt)

like. okay back in book 5

"Besides, I would bet there isn't a single person in Scarabia who hasn't gotten help from Jamil at some point. Am I right?"

"See? There you go. He's been a model vice housewarden. In fact, he's put me to shame. He let dark thoughts get the better of him for a brief time. Other than that, he's a perfectly capable guy." (Book 5 • Chapter 10)

He justifies it with that Jamil isn't the only one to blame (he also blames himself), and that Jamil hadn't done anything wrong before then

which. AGAIn. means that in his eyes the good outweigh the bad. jamils better at his duties so jamil should stay as vice housewarden.

this was the first time jamil did anything bad so it'd be fine, it was just an error in judgment

but he still hangs around him. has him as his aide. so while something did change, it also feels like nothing changed at the same time.

also like one of the very few times he expresses how he feels about something (how it hurts not to be chosen for the first time, and/or that he was only chosen because of someone else so he wants to work hard)

and then grim shuts him down with "You wanna talk about galling? Imagine how I feel not even makin' the cut for the audition to start with."

like. COME ON.

Kalim responds with, "Ah, you're right. My bad! I didn't mean to rub it in. Goodness, there I go again! I'm super sorry, honest."

and yeah it can seem kind of spoiled but also. its probably because of that that he doesnt want to share his troubles because he's very privileged so it feels like he might not deserve to act like its anything when everyone else has to work so much harder, right?

AND ITS JUST. REAFFIRMING TO HIM THAT his troubles are nothing compared to anyone elses and im just aghhauihduadhw

he also cares a lot about other people (people like him as housewarden because he listens to their troubles and supports them) so i just. want him to be able to take a moment to care about himself and just admit these things that he usually doesnt get the chance to.

personally im a firm believer that fluffybird will never use the terms boyfriend or husband, because they’re already best friends. i think theyll stick with that title not because of denial, but because in their heads “best friend” is synonymous with partner. maybe its just the aro-spec in me, but the term best friend can easily mean partner if you want it to, because partners are just best friends with added bonuses. i think they would have this mindset too, and yes i might be arospec truthing.

but even outside of my own projection, i do feel like this is implied canonically, especially with red guys habit of denial. in family he denies being friends with the other two, saying hed hardly call them that, i think the term “friend” on its own is synonymous with family to him. he wouldnt call them family, and he wouldnt call them friends. and in death when he denies being ducks best friend, he acts like the title is bigger than it is. they act like lego batman and lego joker arguing about being enemies. its easy to assume the term best friend was meant to be romantic here, so i believe friendship, or at least the word itself, is viewed differently from the puppets perspective.

i think this fits perfectly with the whole childrens-show vibe the show is supposed to give, because friendship in kids tv shows is definitely more special than people see it in real life. (people other than me but i digress-) despite the fact that this show is much more mature than an ACTUAL kids show, i dont think itd be out of character for the main three to use more “childish” terms for the world around them and the feelings they have. the way the world is presented is mature, BUT with a coat of false innocence and fake childlike wonder, and i believe using the term “friendship” to mean more complex forms of love is perfectly on brand with that. does this make any damn sense?? im so bad at getting things out but i tried.

“Ethan, hurry up!” Benny yelled up the stairs to his best friend, who was in his room getting ready. “If we wait any longer, all the good candy’s gonna be gone!”

“Calm down, Bens.” You laughed. “We’re big kids; we can buy our own candy.”

“It’s not the same.” He whined, letting you pull him towards you by the lapels of his suit jacket. You fixed his poorly tied tie and smoothed out the fabric of his outfit. Benny wanted to be a magician this year, saying it fit perfectly. He even somehow roped you into dressing up as a magician’s assistant.

Before you could reply, there was a knock at the door. Unsure of whether it was a trick-or-treater or one of your friends, you grabbed the bowl of candy near the front entrance and opened the door. But the sight before you made you jump, some pieces of candy flying out of the bowl.

“Trick or treat!” Rory snickered behind an ugly zombie mask. It looked like the mask had been melted and worn out. 

“Couldn’t you have just dressed up as a vampire?” You asked, letting Rory into the house and closing the door. “You know, with you being a vampire and all.”

“Too easy.” Rory shrugged, taking off the mask. “Besides, scaring the crap out of you is worth wearing the mask.” He grinned, and you smacked his shoulder with an eye roll.

Hearing footsteps come thundering down the stairs, you all turned around. Jane came down in a princess costume while Ethan was close behind in one of his regular outfits. You all booed him and his wardrobe.

“Boring!”

“Didn’t even try.”

“Where’s your Halloween spirit, man?”

“Guys, give me a break, okay?” Ethan sighed. It was clear he didn’t really want to go out tonight. Wanting him to at least try to get into the spirit of the holiday, you grabbed a pack of fake vampire fangs from the trick-or-treating bowl.

“Here, you can be the vampire. Now let’s go, or Jane won’t get any candy.” Hearing this, Jane raced out the door, the rest of you hot on her tail.

It was late at night when you all decided to stop trick or treating. Jane’s candy bag was practically bursting at the seams, and she was worn out to the point where Rory had to start carrying her. He only did it because, due to being a vampire, he was the only one strong enough to haul her around, and she promised to give him some of her candy.

“Wanna split?” Benny leaned down to whisper to you, the two of you slowing down and gradually being separated from your friends. Deciding that they probably wouldn’t mind your absence, you nodded. Benny grinned and squeezed your hand that he had been holding the entire evening before pulling you in the direction of his house.

As the two of you walked down the street, a chill ran up your spine. An October night in Canada probably wasn’t the best time to wear a costume that had a good amount of skin, but when you put the costume on, you had decided that it would be a problem for future you.

Future you was less than pleased.

Luckily, being the amazing and thoughtful boyfriend he was, Benny took off his magician’s cape and tied it around you. He must’ve enchanted it, because you were immediately warmed by the fabric. You clung onto his arm, not missing the proud smile he had when he looked down at you wearing something of his.

“Oh, gosh.” You murmured, slowing to a stop. Benny stumbled, looking around in confusion. Before he could ask what was wrong, you pointed to what awaited you just a few yards ahead.

If you knew that the Whitechapel cemetery would be on your route to Benny’s house, you would’ve gone another way. But here you were, looking at the fog-covered, fenced-up plot of land in front of you, the path that went through it looking less than inviting. Given you and your friends’ track records with supernatural and dead things, you were weary of spooky things, such as a cemetery at night. Tonight being Halloween didn’t help much.

“Come on, N/n, it’s okay.” Benny cooed, pulling you along. “Nothing’s gonna happen, I promise.”

“How can you be so sure?” You asked, squeezing his arm.

“I’ll protect you, babe.”

“Oh, great, so we’re both dead.” You half-joked, and Benny gave you a fake offended look.

“Rude.” You got to the fence, and you paused again. Benny looked back and sighed; it was as if he could read your mind before you protested. “Going through the cemetery instead of around is the quickest way home, Y/n. We’ll speedwalk.”

After a deep breath, you nodded, and you both ventured through the graveyard. You clung to Benny as if your life depended on it. For all you knew, it did. The aura surrounding you as you walked spooked Benny a bit, but he did his best to put on a brave face for you.

Before you knew it, you were almost at the other side of the cemetery. Relief filled you as the fog faded just enough to show you the exit.

“Come on, let’s get out of here.” You say, a pep in your step now. But for some reason, Benny pulled on his cape that was around your shoulders. You looked back in confusion.

It wasn’t Benny, you realized. Because he was standing next to you, not behind you.

Behind you was a hideous, groaning creature that looked like it had been decaying for years. You wouldn’t have been surprised if it had crawled out of one of the graves you and Benny walked by.

“Zombie!” You shouted, making Benny jump. You tried to run, but the creature’s decaying hand had a death grip on the cape you were wearing, the opposing forces almost choking you.

Benny grabbed the string that tied the cape around you and somehow ripped it apart. It was probably the sudden adrenaline that gave him the strength to do that and then pick you up when you were finally free. Tossing you over his shoulder, Benny ran out of the graveyard while you both freaked out about what you saw.

Over your squeals and shouts, you didn’t hear the laughing that came from the place you were fleeing from. The zombie dropped the cape and ripped off its face, revealing a cackling Rory. But his laughs were suddenly cut short when he heard a rustle in a nearby bush. Realizing that being alone in the cemetery was becoming too creepy for him, Rory sped away.

When you reached Benny’s house and called your friends, you told them all about the terrifying encounter you and Benny had with the dead. During your storytelling, you didn’t notice Rory having a slight grin on his face the entire time.

see, heres the thing about caine. on top of being demisexual and dense as a brick, they also just. dont believe things like that apply to them. he was never made to be attractive(i hc that they used to map infiltration routes + carry out the occasional assasination or two), and his demisexuality made him assume that regenes weren't capable of sexual attraction. the first time he felt sexual attraction to his boyfriends he basically went "????? THIS ISNT EXCLUSIVE TO HUMANS????" and had a crisis about it the whole afternoon. the idea that people can feel that way towards them and act on it has never once crossed their mind. so good luck on getting them to realize youre flirting. chen barely made it. ortega failed. however. once the initial barriers have been breached, even if the seduction doesnt technically work, the knowledge that theyre trying to flirt is enough to get him embarrassed; so, technically speaking, anything would work as long as it comes with a flashing neon sign prefacing what theyre trying to do. hes very awkward with these kinds of things. its very cute watching him flounder.

oh yeah, absolutely. shed say thats what happened to her with ortega. shes wrong about that, it was only a crush at the time, but she did hold a strong admiration thats easy to confuse when looking back. as for whether or not she had a crush based on looks alone, i dont think so?? she's not the type to put too much stock in appearance– even with ortega it was a mix of how she held herself and her perceived nobility– but then again, its also easy for her to see the pretty in people, and itd be a lie to say looks arent a contributing factor for if she likes them or not. for her, how a person looks just highlights the way they are as a person. its easy for her to develop crushes, though. be friendly with the other person long enough, and its pretty much inevitable. shes very Very lucky shes got all eyes on ortega at the moment, otherwise her love life would be the most embarrassing and inconvenient thing ever.

ceci always comes up with a new pick up line. always. and its always the corniest thing in the world. she loves the creative outlet, and loves throwing her enemies off even more. now that she has a consistent target, shes more motivated to come up with something new. she wants to see what makes argent tick. what makes her roll her eyes, play along, or in rare cases, actually fluster her. whether theyre effective or not depends on who shes using them on, some are more responsive to flirting than others, but the end result doesnt really matter. as long as she gets to do her thing, its a good time.

Mephiles' fashion to me would b like. a LOT of very shiny leather, purple accents, and upside-down crosses. like a mix between matrix styles, futurism, and goth! i think the matrix and futurism makes enough sense, but the like ex-christian antichrist goth stuff is partly becuz hes supposed to look like shadow who would b SO catholic angst goth and partly becuz i feel like the music of 06 has a lot of motifs that kind of call back to church choirs and like. Mephiles' story kinda reminds me of some like. Disciple's righteous quest to end the world because of their misguided devotion. TO BE FAIR i have NOT finished watching the 06 longplay so im like. REALLY fuzzy on the details of the story, except for the basic parts everyone knows. so idk! i might just b projecting some of the good ol Christian Angst but. its rlly interesting to me!

as for shadow, i think its so so cute when he's friends with the younger cast, like Tails and Cream. i know it's probably not actually super in-character, but. [shrugg]. its also rlly cute when he's friends with metal sonic too.

tails is ideal because of his parallels to maria's design, and (assumed) personality. itd be interesting to see how those would affect his relationship with shadow in canon, and whether it would make them more or less friendly towards each other. also the conflict potential of shadow avoiding tails or treating him differently, and the way that affects tails who doesn't understand WHY shadow does that. also the fact that tails has clear interest in guns and weaponry that would make it very easy for him to bond with shadow over! also, it would b rlly rlly funny if tails started picking stuff up from shadow and began treating him like an older brother in ways he does with sonic.

cream friendship is cute becuz Older Brother shadow would 1. b rlly rlly sweet, its rlly funny to imagine cream and cheese hanging out w the Goth Kid, and itd b rlly sweet if he started hanging out w vanilla and Finally got to have a good parental figure in his life for Once.

metal sonic is good because itd introduce an interesting conflict between shadow and OMEGA. but also, shadow can kind of relate to metal sonic, in a way that he cant for a Lot of other characters. being a living weapon, feeling like theyre stuck in sonic's shadow or stuck being compared to sonic and it drives them mad to no end. being a creation by one of the robotnik's. and, depending when they hung out, there's a really nice parallel between metal being a robot created to feel Organic and shadow who's mind was manipulated to make him feel like a robot. even if shadows thing wasnt as permanent as metals, it still gives him a very unique perspective into the robot that no other character really has. it would also b funny if shadow begins talking about how he likes metal better than sonic. theres also a parallel between metal and shadow both having sort of "fail-safes" put into them, through metal's inability to speak and shadow being unable to remember huge portions of his life and how he Still has those amnesia problems. and the angst potential! OMEGA would b so mad! itd be a HUGE betrayal for him! and thats rlly rlly interesting to me and i think it has a lot of potential to be a rlly compelling plot device(?).

honorable mentions would b Espio and Charmy. same reasons as cream (silly, would give him a good parental figure by association, cute kid with goth older brother is a rlly good trope) but i also think that shadow and espio are kind of similar? in a way thatd make them pretty compatible. theyre both such. [waves hand]. Crossed Arms Scowl Autism? that i think they could potentially appreciate each other's silent, brooding company.

its just. the "fighting hard to not become the very thing they swore to destroy" trope always HITS and xiao is such a tragic character through and through that i think itd be hard for anyone to not feel sorry for him, once they have a deeper look into his story. it can be easy to dismiss him as the growling edgelord character but really just a deeper look in and u can see just how...... sad he is

ive said before that i hold a soft spot for adepti lore- after developing lore for xue yin ive come to rly appreciate what the adepti symbolise n common themes that they have, and how it connects to the overarching themes of genshin as a whole.

idk if ive said this before? i forget what i say in my (few) lore rants here LMFAO but i feel that genshin is, to me, a story about grief. about loss. how it happens, how people cope with it, and how they ultimately move on. a more obvious theme in the narrative is ushering in a new era- mond and inazuma having already done this imo by thriving without their archon's guidance, liyue moving on from the loss of rex lapis, and sumeru finally reuniting with their archon. but in order to welcome a new era you have to say goodbye to the old one- you have to lose the old one and move on. such as the archons have to cherish but move on from old friends and old memories, the people have to as well

adepti are sort of deital beings who served the same purpose for thousands of years and now have to learn to adjust to a liyue thats rapidly changed before their very eyes- and they deal with this change. some of them have already started (ganyu, madame ping), and it comes easier for them

but not for xiao.

im very much not qualified or informed enough to make an in-depth analysis on this specifically but ill say that xiao's current story focuses on his recovery from his ptsd. and i dont think im informed enough to talk about ptsd so i wont- but his recovery is so very carefully written in that its so slow. he's not quick to accept these things and can even be harsh about them. not only is his duty ingrained in his brain from years and years of war, but he is physically unable to stop, lest he succumbs to his karmic debt.

i love how we got an update on him during lantern rite actually (i mean, lantern rite is always xiao time but yk), bc ive been dying to know how hes been since we last saw him in the chasm. and it looks like hes been doing the same old things he usually does- but hes making an active decision in getting better, and that makes me proud of him!!!

he interacts with baizhu and qiqi now (though he leaves right away lol, but from their interactions this isnt the first time theyve taken care of him. cute!!) and he even walks around liyue harbour instead of just leaving, even letting a little girl interact with him and letting her grandpa give him some rice wine (from venti noticing that he's already drank, by the time they see each other)

of course, it's hard- hes constantly haunted by his debt. by the demons he's slayed. by the evil he's purged. by himself. he has nightmares about himself- about his fear of one day becoming the very evil he swore to purge. that's why we get those nightmares of the two xiaos- in it, hes the one with the mask on. hes succumbed to the darkness, and he cant take it off- hes become the very thing he swore to destroy.

hi! im back for a bit, was feeling super nostalgic about the blog again. the odds of you seeing this are slim but i hope that you may, because ngl im overjoyed that there is anybody out there who would still care even just a tiny tiny bit about this thing that i cared about so overwhelmingly much as a child, so thank you lots and lots for sending something like this into this old inbox. it means more to me than you will probably ever know my original narrative that i wrote with all my fandomstuck friends at the time, and that was hinted at during the beginning of the blog, was that butler was half human and half demon, and his "demon side" has a cruel personality that he struggles to keep under control. you know, that sorta cliché narrative that kids like me couldn't get enough of /lighthearted, cringe is dead n all that, but yknow i don't remember if it was just me feeling overwhelmed by the thought of running a one-man-show with few side characters for butler to interact with, or if i just got really excited at the thought of giving him a brother, or some sort of mixture of both, but either way i decided to split up butlers human and demon side into two separate characters for the sake of the blog. i think at the time i had convinced myself it made the abstract ideas i had planned a bit more literal and easy to understand. like, ultimately i wanted to genuinely tell a story about self love, self hatred, and just generally the relationship you can have and foster for just your own self, but i guess i got cold feet and decided itd just be more simple if his two halves were two people as opposed to all internal. if i were to have a do-over, id stick to my original narrative and keep it all contained in one character. the thing is though, about the source material, is pretty much all of the characters who arent human have a really similar personality, which is great for something like fandomstuck. theyre all some variant of suave, skilled, a hint of unnerving, and maybe a sprinkle of flirtatious. and i feel that personality and tone really embodies the series as a whole. but, it leaves me struggling with what id do for butler's human side and what that personality would be like, if his demon side were to cover that suaveness and such. i wouldn't want it to just be a carbon copy of ciel, but pulling in influence from the other human characters is just a bit difficult to pull off in a way that feels good. and my solution at the time, to make him a super cutesy shy "kawaii boy", was just totally not it lol. that had purely bc of my bias for characters like that as well as my own personality leeching in. and frankly if im being honest, i struggle with being very nostalgic for this portrayal of butler, and the thought of changing it up makes me a little sad, because in my head and my heart he just totally captured a particular fragment of my life, and the thought of messing with that at all makes me... upset, tbh, but its something i would be willing to do if i ever did want to bring him back, which i do lightheartedly consider from time to time. still leaves me not totally sure what i WOULD want his personality to be like, but eh, at least i gave it more thought this time if anything no one cares abt this as much as i do but thats ok, but anybody who did read this whole thing i owe you my life thank you

Denki had never liked school before, didnt like the teachers that didnt care, or the students that knew how to hit it where it hurt, or the classes that were too slow or too fast and never right. He had worked his butt off to get into UA, and even though he thought itd be simular to the rest of his schooling career, he had a dream to achieve and UA was how he was gonna do it.

So he was surprised when he actually started liking school, despite some of the mortal dangers, the teachers at least gave half a shit, and Denki had people to hang out with, and he was working towards his future. Sure classes werent easy, and he was pretty sure Aizawa sensei was more than done with his drawbacks, but he was passing and learning and fighting, and he wasnt giving up.

He carefully moves pen across paper, his mothers signature familiar at this point, before sitting back to look at his work. He'd forged his parents signatures a million times, probably knew them better then they did, but he could help but be impressed by his work. This, that allowed him to do the things he needed to achieve his dream, and his happiness. He wondered if they even knew he was attending UA, but couldnt bring himself to care too much.

A class camping trip wasnt something he'd used his forgery for before- hadnt ever really wanted to go on the 'fun' trips since they were rarely fun when you were picked on at best the whole time. But now he had friends (oh he hoped they were friends), and teachers that didnt put up with any BS, and the trip actually sounded fun because of it, he'd never been camping before and with this group, well he had high hopes.

Her excitement is contagious, he and Sero cant keep the smiles from their faces, and Kiri is practically bouncing with the girl. Bakugo looks pained to be near them, but doesnt move away either, so Denki thinks he doesnt mind too much.

Aizawa and Mic Sensei, for once, seem to be on the same side of mood, Aizawa his ever tired self, and Mic Sensei seems to dread the trip. How the school got the man who hates bugs, to chaperone a camping trip, Denki will most likely never know.

"Settle down and get on the bus, or I'll cancel the trip completely."

Unlikely, but they all calm a bit and continue in a more orderly manor.

Denki leans against the window, determined to catch up on some sleep, but the road seems determined to keep him awake. He takes to simply looking out the window, the noises of his class washing over him, frowns a bit at the sight of clouds but silently assures himself its probably nothing, or heading away, this will be a nice trip and he will enjoy it. His teachers wouldnt take an electric type into a storm...

He hopes.

He must end up dosing at some point, the sun has started its decent, but its not what woke him. The class has quieted, most doing their own thing or sleeping, no one seems to have caused his disturbance though. Finally glancing out the window, Denki has no time to warn anyone, the bus swerves and he braces himself and Sero as best he can.

He supposes hes glad hes in a hero class. Getting split up in unfamilair territory with anyone else would be a mess for sure. He cant even imagine his past classes surviving the crash. As it is, he doesnt know how he got split up from his seat mates, Sero, the rest of the bakusquad, are nowhere in sight.

He doesnt remember much from the crash, doesnt know how the bus ended up in so many pieces, or how the class got split up, but he does know that Ayoyama's arm may be broken, Deku is bleeding and unconcious, and Tokoyami is panicking-in his own way- at the setting sun. Denki is banged up, but he'll live, for now his priority is getting the three with him to safety. Their bus was attacked, hes sure that wont be the end of it, they need shelter and a plan.

"Alright! Tokoyami, I can light up enough to keep Dark Shadow at bay. Ayoyama, we need to splint your arm until we can get a better look at it. We need to get us somewhere safe, with Deku out, and you hurt, we cant get caught in a fight." Hes not used to taking charge, in fact if you asked anyone else, he wasnt the kind to.

But hes not stupid, no matter what everyone thinks, and hes a hero hopeful, hes been training to handle situations like these.

Theyd found a few bags in the wreckage, his own thankfully included, they take them with as Dark Shadow helps with Midoriya, Denki lights the way and Ayoyama keeps an eye out behind them. Denki doesnt know whats out there, what cover they'll be able to find, but they need to do it fast.

A storms coming.

If Aizawa has one more trip interrupted by villians, hes going to scream. Not only is most of his class missing, lost in the woods at night, but villians are hunting them down. Its ridiculous that they cant have one trip of peace.

He eyes the coming storm as he knocks out another oponent, wondering if he could sue weathermen, and hopes his class doesnt die out there.

How Yamada ended up seperated from his husband he has no idea. The bus driver- or rather sadly, his body- had ended up with him and a few students, but not the man he sat beside. He can only hope there was no other casualties, as he binds a few wounds, and that the night will not condemn them.

Bakugo swears, being number one was not supposed to be this hard yet. One damn camping trip, to relax and bond and shit, and yet they couldnt even have that. To make matters worse hes stuck with four eyes and half and half, with only Froppy to delegate. Out of all the damn extras, why it had to be the ones he didnt tolerate he doesnt know, but when he finds those morons they better not be dead.

"Ayoyama, can you light up for a bit?" Frantic energy dances beneath his skin, harder to contain now as the dark clouds loom above them. Its no longer safe for him to be close to the others, and a forest is a terrible place to be.

"Oui, are you alright mon ami?" His stomach lights up and DS grumbles a bit but doesnt lose his hold on Deku.

"Yeah, just tired ya know?" He busies himself with looking around, and is releaved to find a larger overhang from one of the rocky hills. Its big enough for the others to hide in, and with a couple branches, could serve as a hiding spot for now. "Look over there! Set Midoriya up in there, we need to collect branches and stuff, if we make it thick enough we may be able to light a fire! Quick before it rains!"

Sero never minded rain. But more that the sound could be calming than getting caught in it. Shoji is providing cover at least, but he cant help but worry about his friends. Denki had braced him for impact on the bus, waking up with no sign of him had terrified him, even now he wonders if his friends are alive, or hurt or worse. Uraraka and Ojiro have tried to remain calm, but Sero knows they are just as worried.

With rain, night and villians on the lose, he prays to see everyone again, in one piece.

As they set the last branch up, the first flash of lightning lights up the sky, thunder follows far to soon and Denki curses.

"Alright, if you guys sleep, we gotta do it in shifts, I'm hoping Midoriya will wake up soon, but until then, keep the fire going."

"Where are you going?" Tokoyami, sitting close to the fire, eyes him worriedly, obviously noting his nervous energy.

"...Im gonna check the perimeter, I'll... be back."

"Mon ami, you'll catch cold."

Thats the least of his worries...

"I'll be fine. Just stay hidden, itll all be fine."

"Kaminari, is it the storm?" Realization has come to Tokoyamis eyes and Denki winces.

"I've dealt with worse. But I cant be around you guys right now. If anything, it'll at least keep the villians away."

Unless he passes out before the storm is over, then he will have no control over what his quirk does, and he may hurt his friends, so, he'll just have to stay awake. Funny how he cant sleep at night, but when he needs wakefulness, he has to fight for it.

Mina just wanted to know that her boys were safe. That all her friends had made it out okay, that no one had been kidnapped or... killed.

Aizawa sensei had picked a direction, and Mina knows its probably the direction the rest of the class would have chosen as well, at least she hopes they did, this will be the most likely way to find them. As they pass the other wreckages, her worry grows. The bus driver has been covered, but they all know what lies beneath the branches, and from the splotches of blood, people were injured.

"Mic Sensei has a few of your friends, theyre headed in the right direction, come on."

They all use debri as umbrellas, casting mournful looks behind them before following their teacher. The villians had found them, were defeated of course, but that doesnt mean the others were as lucky.

And until she saw faces... she wasnt losing hope.

Kirishima sees it before the others, at first he thinks its a normal strike of lightning, but as he watches, he recognizes the slight difference. Lightning meeting that of a familiar quirk.

Hes stupid for not having thought of it before. Why they never saw Denki on stormy days. His quirk was electricity, practically lightning itself, and Lightning was attracked to conduits.

Lightning was attracked to Denki.

He takes off before Mic Sensei can react, but he knows theyre following.

"Momo! We need insulating blankets, strong ones!"

She doesnt respond for a moment, but another lightning strike hurls from the sky, the boom is immediate,

"Got it!"

Bakugo is running before he conciously decides too, he should have known that idiot would keep something like this from them. And of fu**ing course their would be a damn storm on top of everything. Four eyes is yelling, but Bakugo could care less, Pikachu may be an idiot, but damnit he was one of his idiots!

Hanta stares at the sky in horror, halting his group who turn to look as well. He'd recognize the look of that quirk anywhere. Denki... was he...

Sero runs.

Storms were calming for some people, aethstetic for others, a fear even for some. Denki didnt know where he fell in those categories.

As a child, before he got his quirk, rain was puddles and scary thunder. After his quirk it was padded crates and rubber clothing, of staying away from water, and harsh training to keep himself under control. As he got older, he found beauty in the rain, how it danced with lightning to the thundering sound of ancient times. But he still feared it, what it could do with him as its connection to Earth. He's hurt enough people to know just how dangerous they... no he, can be.

No amount of control could contain a force of nature.

It was best to either find a space clear of anything and let it pass, or confine himself to a small insulated space so harm could come to no others.

He didnt have much of a choice out here. He had to control what he could, to not set anything on fire, to not hurt his friends, and to keep the villians who thought to take advantage away.

They were falling easily, lightning loved to flow, so redirecting its energy was an effort but not unmanagable. Sure it would rather go straight to his feet and thus the earth, but it didnt mind a detour through someone else. Just enough to knock them out of course, Denki knew exactly how much a body could take, with split second calculation of body mass and such, Denki knew all about how much voltage would do what. He had to know.

So one after another they fall, unable to sneak by, and unable to combat the raw power of nature and quirk combined.

His viens burned, feeling like string cheese- peeling strand after strand- he was growing both numb and fried, lichtenburg figures engraving deep into the earth and trees, and recarving familiar paths into his skin.

Most people hated getting caught unexpected in a storm- he knows these guys sure do- but at least this time, Denki can take advantage of it.

He sees familiar blobs in the distance, as the last villian falls, the lightning has become less frequent, the storm dying down as Denki has most of its energy buzzing painfully in beneath his skin.

He just wanted to rest.

Shigaraki has the "pathetic guy" kind of appeal. Especially at the beginning of the series when he made video game analogies and was left to bleed out on the floor while complaining that All Might wasn't weak (Shout out Snipe for wrecking his shit)

He's still cute but also more annoying now (him yelling at Mirio about how he has friends was cute, especially when he brought up Mon-chan)

I know that makes him appealing to the AUDIENCE but I mean all these people following him now. IDK what about him is charismatic or even leader-like other than hes really strong and even then back before he got his AFO power up he wasnt really even THAT strong.

Hes unhinged and kinda childish and reckless IDK how people who got into Stains camp easy transitioned into being Shigaraki stans when the two characters couldnt be further a part in ideals. Stain even says so himself that people like Shigaraki, villains that just go around hurting/killing people, are also on his hit list.

Even the supposedly biggest Stain stan who even dresses like the guy hasnt questioned what theyre doing even though itd be a really interesting character POV to have. Someone who believes in Stains ideals gets caught up in the brief alliance between Shiga and Stain and ends up with Shiga as Stain ends up in prison... but has his doubts as the crimes they commit become more and more recklessly violent. Especially when Shiga basically nukes the city.

But lizard guy is a super minor character in the grand scheme of things and Hori doesnt even give more prominently featured characters (like Hawks or even Shoto) that kind of thought.

Dad may not be here but there's a bag of chocolate chips in the cabinet, there's milk in the fridge and cinnamon on the island. You can still melt it all together sitting on the kitchen counter, your favorite mug set beside you as you stir.

You take your time mixing in the chocolate, almost forgetting to add the cinnamon altogether, and though the process is slow and sluggish it feels like no time has passed at all once it's done.

Thin wisps of steam waft up as you sip at it, both hands wrapped around your mug, ignoring the burn.

It tastes almost exactly the way it did when dad used to make it. Just by watching him all those years you've managed to get it right.

Stupidly, selfishly, you wish that you'd screwed it up instead. You wish that you'd burnt it, or made it far too sweet or too bitter, or that you'd dropped the pot and ruined the whole thing.

But you didn't mess it up. It's practically perfect. It tastes just like home.

You make sure to set your mug aside before you start to cry.

i actually wasnt initially sure whether i wanted her to make it well or COMPLETELY screw it up. i figured itd be one of the two, either near perfect or absolutely horrible, it was just a matter of what would hit harder. i think my first thought WAS that it would go badly, and she'd be frustrated to have screwed it up and not have even a single reminder of home? but i figured the reminder would actually be worse. she already feels very disconnected from home, shes already isolated, she already feels like shes screwed up enough. more of that wouldnt change very much at all. but to finally get something right? to have a direct connection to home, a reminder of a time where she felt safe and confident and loved, only to feel like she can never reach that point again? its her first time making it alone. its the first good thing shes had in months and she has no one to share it with, no real comfort to take from it. it feels so hopeless. which is why i decided that she'd get it right instead of fucking it up.

the whole thing with her WISHING she'd fucked it up was part of that- shes used to disappointment and failure and things going wrong, itd be so easy to add another thing to the list. she makes it perfectly and immediately regrets it because its a reminder of everything shes lost.

this is also honestly a LOT of projection on my part, because while it was actually a very important friend who ended up showing me how to make hot chocolate like that, i LOVE hot chocolate and i love my dad and it was just. easiest to use those things to give her a connection to something outside of the dsmp, because i could draw from my own love to make it more impactful. i could TRY to go into the reason i wanted to give her an important outside connection in the first place but honestly i dont know enough about my own reasoning to describe why it felt so important ajhfgjksdg. something to miss? something to lose? Something.

I WISH I COULD GIVE MORE COMMENTARY i dont remember most of why i wrote what i wrote tbh. it just kind of spawned in my brain and i went haha cool that works! smile. i think this was one of the middle scenes in terms of me figuring out what i wanted to write? i didnt have it in mind at the beginning, but fairly early on i decided i wanted her to have something to miss.
