Proper maintenance of the Body
There is something to be said about the proper maintenance of the body, and therfore its various functions and faculties.
There are four obvious elements which, in moderation, assist with the maintenance of the body-systems.
Air
Water
Nutrients (Mineral, Earth)
Light (energy, warmth)
Breathing air is automatic, but a useful thing to consider in regard to meditations, as it is widely known that the controlling of the breath can assist in the reaching of different mental states (conscious states). The most abundant source of fresh air is in the forests, where there are so many more trees and plants, so go there often for hiking.
It should be obvious that water provides the body with varying benefits. It contains minerals and other things which our bodies use to support and develop its varying structures, living and moving cells, which use the water in varying ways.
Nurtients, of course from plants (Or animals if you eat animals, which typically eat plants); which get their proteins, chemicals, vitamins, minerals, from the soil and from the water, the light and the air, to produce the useful chemicals, bacteria, energies that keep our cells going, multiplying, forming structures {Organs, Bones, etc}, processing the materials of the body, getting rid of waste, filtering out what is not useful, using and storing what is useful, regulating the systems of the body, and dying, being replaced by new cells, all under the instructions of your genetic code. It is not recommended to focus your conscious mind too intensely on the happenings of the systems of the body, because the body-mind seems to get stage-fright and the conscious-mental focus on the body seems to interrupt its procedures. It is therefore better to simply put a band-aid over your scrape, or a cast over your broken leg, and go on about your days not thinking about it. The body will proceed to heal itself.
And light, which not only provides warmth, but stimulates the body with its energy to do certain things. It is also notably a carrier of information which we use to interpret what is going on around us {Sight}.
The above link gives but an inkling of an idea about the benefits of exposure to natural light. I recommend reaching for more thorough studies and resources identifying the various benefits of light in your body.
Nevertheless, let's keep this simple.
When hungry, reach for the nutrient-rich foods. When thirsty, drink water. When exercising, breathe deeper. Spend plenty of time out in the sun, and as night falls, turn off the artificial lights. Keep your curtains open to let the light in from the moon and stars, and then in the morning, Sun light.
There are different benefits to being in the dark, as there are different benefits to being exposed to the light of the moon and stars. All these things help to regulate the body systems, and bring you the various informations carried from the differing sources of natural light. You can find out what these benefits are through research or keen observation; all is available to be learned on the internet.
I recommend starting at the beginning with your 'diet'; learning about the various benefits of each fruit or vegetable, or herb for example, and putting together a sensible diet for yourself, considering good proportions and variety of the foods.
Personally, I haven't done an extensive amount of study into the benefits of many foods, but there are a few I aim to include as much as possible, and a couple that I restrict or exclude because of my body's natural tendency to gain weight quickly.
Exclusions:
Sugar, Carbs; so anything containing wheat or processed sugar I avoid. I restrict other carbs like potatoes and corn.
Inclusions:
Berries, Orange juice with the pulp, or a Juice combining multiple types of berries, Avocados, Olives, Tomatoes, Eggs, Cheese, Probiotic yogurt, Fish like salmon, beef, bacon, herbs and spices, vinegar, coconut milk, coconut oil, butter, broccoli, red cabbage, bananas, any vegetable with a good amount of colour in it - any colour, Honey for sweetening things, spinach leaves, mushrooms, cinnamon and similar spices, and superfoods like goji berries and reishi mushroom powder, lion's mane powder, chaga mushroom powder.
I try to avoid wasting my calorie intake on foods with little nutritional value. It's all about supporting your body's systems effectively and efficiently.
Probiotic foods and exercising regularly are vitally important for gut health, and your gut health is vitally important for repairing the gut, breaking down foods, absorbing nutrients, producing energy for your body, maintaining a healthy and youthful body and appearance, maintaining the health of your various organs, the health of your veins, nerves, brain, bones, etc. Having a healthy gut benefits your whole body system. Having a healthy gut prevents and repairs achy joints and foggy memory, reduces the likelihood of heart disease and other physical problems. It can reduce the amount of time you suffer from a common cold or flu. Having a healthy gut provides the body with the power and resources it needs to do everything that the body does. It can help significantly with weight loss.
Helpful tip: smell the fruit/vegetable. If there is a stronger smell it is a better choice. Tomatoes with no smell are not as healthy or don't contain a high enough nutritional value, for example. If it smells sugary instead of that fruity goodness then probably don't buy it.
Similarly, I would recommend choosing a cheese that has a nice flavour or smell rather than no smell or no flavour. Cheddar over mozz.
Avoid non-stick at all costs. That shit is toxic and poisons the food and damages your body. Also avoid plastic utensils.
Use cast iron or stainless steel or ceramic instead. Cast iron is preferable because it helps improve your iron levels. Quickly wash it and dry it when you're done cooking with it and add a bit of oil to coat it again to protect against rust.

Okay, I’m posting this here because it keeps getting taken down on insta and I’m done. This is supposed to be a fandom page where I post things I love and don’t stress about other things but I have to say this somewhere.
We have to stop wasting our social and emotional energy on trying to get companies to stop greenhouse emissions. It isn’t going to do enough, I want to be hopeful but we have to be realistic. We can still keep those kinds of things in mind, ride public transportation, e-bikes, compost etc… Our focus needs to shift to coping with climate change now. We have to start putting in place measures that will give us a safety net as things get worse.
We have to start thinking about coastal cities now, how to get people out when it starts to flood. NYC, DC, Sydney, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Cape Town, Rio de Jenaro, Mumbai, Venice, all of them will become unlivable and climate refugees need to go somewhere.
Places that will be safe need to prepare for large swaths of refugees, that means lots of housing complexes, and less single family homes. Strong communities will be essential, pick a place and stay there as long as you can. The goal has be to build up individual communities as much as you can, that is where you can do the most good. Do what you can to reduce poverty and homelessness. Tear down hostile architecture, make sure people know they are loved and wanted.
We need to localize as the global systems collapse, that means large local farms, people getting back into trades, small maintainable power grids, and making our cities walkable and transitioning to electric bikes instead of cars. We may be able to power large cities with nuclear, but we have to work on making it safer, preferably with thorium than uranium.
We need to find ways to create medicines without large mechanical systems, as well as creating disability aids. We can not rely on massed produced items. We need to start learning practical skills and get back into traditional trades.
We have to go back to paper instead of digital. All of the digital archives will be lost when we can no longer support global internet. All records of births, deaths, family trees, literature, cultural histories, all of it needs to be protected so it isn’t destroyed.
Indigenous people come first and foremost as they will be our guiding lights. They shouldn’t have to be, but they have the knowledge of survival and reciprocity on the local lands.
We have to get rid of the damns and restore those areas. They cause far too many floods as they deteriorate and the space that will gained makes for more livable land. Areas like Las Vegas can’t exist anymore; it takes too much water to keep them running and it isn’t sustainable in the long run.
We have to change our food system, meat animals currently take up too much space and resources as well as monoculture. Animals need to be raised locally, at the bear minimum, while keeping cultural foods around is important, nutrition has to come first. We need a three sisters type of approach to local farming, cultivating things that grow intertwined and benefit from each other and we need to do it regionally.
Food waste en mass is unacceptable - not finishing a meal because you are full is fine - supermarkets will eventually become obsolete but in the mean time we have to use things until the very end, until it it fully expired. No tossing out day old bread, fresh produce, anything that can be eaten.
I know this isn’t everything, policing, government, water treatment, the way we build, money, education, protecting cultural practices and artifacts, population centers, there are so many things I could go into but I’m not going to write a full essay on tumblr. The point of this is even though we can’t stop global warming, we have so much else to do. I am still alive today because this is my mission. I have lived my life with respect and compassion in everything I do, my goal of reducing suffering is how I make my personal and political decisions. I am doing all can to make the world a little better every day, and taking care of myself.
We either transition slowly now, or all at once later, and the latter involves a lot of suffering and death. In the meantime, speak out against genocide, turn your anger into action, find joy, and know your power.
(It’s really hard for me to cite my sources on this one because how do I cite my whole last semester of university, I’ll ask my prof and see if she has any ideas)

Hi unofficial compilation of Getting Away From A Place tips
this is tailored to a specific situation so please do your own research for stuff more specific to you
running away tips subreddit
Short Term Preparation:
These are the things you can prepare now if you have to get out fast and unexpectedly
Do not tell anyone about your plan other than those directly involved in helping you.
Make a plan for your cash. You don't want to access an account your family can access or freeze. Slowly withdraw money and hide it if it's at risk of being taken. Withdrawing it all the day you leave will raise a red flag and have you on camera (atm or bank), if you even have time. As a legal adult, you may be able to get away with this because you aren't doing anything against the law. Just make sure to do it before your family finds out about you leaving. When you leave, if you don’t want to be traced- don’t use cards.
For hiding paper cash- you know your house and its occupants best. Determine what objects you have that won't be thrown away or tampered with by someone, and if they have a hollow space, store it. I used to use opaque pill bottles, hidden pockets or bindings in notebooks, the linings of old dvd or game cases, water bottles, gum cases, (all of these put in clothing or backpack pockets), opening the lining of coats and backpacks and hiding it inside of that, inside of hygeine products like the hollow part of a deodorant stick. Inside old electronics. in the stuffing of a plushie. Underneath the insoles of shoes you dont wear often.
Even if your money isn't at risk of being taken, store some of it separately anyway for emergencies.
I heard the bare minimum for running away with no destination or job is $1k. Judge for yourself your needs.
Get a backpack. Waterproof/resistant is better, but any is good. Don't pack it yet, so you don't arouse suspicion. But test out packing it to see if everything fits, and unpack it. Modify some hidden compartments so that when you travel, you will have places to hide your IDs and Cash- it's necessary so no one steals it. You want to travel light, regardless of your situation, because packing and carrying a ton of stuff takes time and you don't always have time on the day you leave.
Get a secondary bag. I learned the hard way that a backpack doesn't fit everything you'll need. Especially with amenities, food, clothing, personal possessions.... A duffel bag, one of those canvas grocery bags. A tote. Something to hold by hand.
Packing lists for running away are surprisingly similar to emergency evacuation pack lists.
Clothes to pack: 1 short sleeve shirt. 1 long sleeve shirt. 1 pair of pants. 7 sock pairs. 7 underwear pairs. 1 jacket. Some winter gear if you can, because nights will always be cold especially if you are stuck outside.
Hygeine to pack: deodorant. toothpaste. toothbrush. floss. baking soda if you’ll be on the road for a long time. Special products you may need- cream for a skin condition, sunscreen. I recommend a small essential oil bottle as a bug repellent, and some have antibacterial properties to help you/your clothes not smell musty af, and they're safe on the skin.
Must-haves to pack: you should have your social security card and another form of ID, like a state ID or drivers license. Pass port if you have one, and birth certificate or a copy if you can. Your cash. A map of your state/region.
Valuables to pack: bring a few things to keep you entertained that are small. A small book, or a notebook and pen. Try not for anything too heavy or bulky. Any survival gear you may own (sewing kits, first aid, multitools, matches, lighters).
If you will be staying outside, get a sleeping bag. Thermal blanket for cold temps.
Food to pack: bring healthy nonperishable food. Junk food won't do much for you on the move. Go for granola/protein bars, dried fruit, meat bars, jars of nut butters, canned food. A water bottle. Bring all medication you need.
Stuff to wear on you: go for baggy and multi-pocketed stuff. Don't wear your favorite clothing if you don't want to be identified, and make sure they blend well into the environment. Grey is the most unnoticeable color, then black, then neutrals. If identification isn't a problem, only wear and pack your favorite things. Wear comfortable and travel safe shirt and pants. Wear a hoodie or tie it around your waist so it doesnt take up bag space. A hat. Keep some cash in a hidden pocket if you can. Wear comfortable sneakers you can move around in for a long time and is good for the weather of where you live. Keep your self defense on you - knives, pepper spray, etc. (and learn the laws for those in your area)
Note: Storing some of these supplies around or in hiding places won't be too weird. Keeping the 'valuables' in the backpack won't be too strange to anyone either. Keeping everything nearby so you can quickly dump everything in the bags and go is a good idea. But Do Not Pack the clothes until the day you leave. clothes are a warning signal for leaving. And you cannot let them find out about your plans, especially if you are in a dangerous place.
Last note: know these are flexible to you. You can add or change stuff, as long as you have the most important things.
Long Term:
These are the things you can prepare for better
Save as much money as possible. You can secretly sell things.
Research more about what you may experience, be that attaining financial independence or how to train hop and live on the streets temporarily. Look at other people's tips for running away, or their experiences. Research moving out tips. Research specific to your area or where you will be headed. Libraries, shelters, charities, support organizations, 24-hour restaurants and locations. Research ticket prices, gas prices, etc. Apartment search. Be sure to remove those from your history. Cleaning it entirely may be suspicious if someone monitors that.
Build a budget and a food plan for how you will use your savings on the road.
As an adult, if you manage to get hired secretly for a job in your target location, you can apply for housing there, too. You will get set move-in dates and can give dates you can start working that work with your runaway schedule.
If you're running away as a minor, you can't stay with friends. However, as an adult you can. If someone is trying to find you, you'll have to be careful still.
If you need to leave fake trails because someone might search for you, there are some excellent resources by people trying to hide from domestic violence. The main tips are leaving fake trails in cities far away from wherever you will be- job applications you have no intention of following through on, apartment applications, phone calls, internet searches, purchases, etc. These can go more in-depth.
If you will be tracked, figure out how to get a burner phone. These are pretty cheap, and so are their service plans. You may want to consider this anyway to pay for your own service if your phone is taken off the existing one. Write down phone numbers you want to keep.
Make sure you have the proper amounts of medications you will need.
Be careful with this one, but figure out if you have any smaller hard-to-replace valuables that you want to bring to your new life but can't pack for your method of travel or might get stolen. Only do this if you have a place you are going to, and are going to get a job and housing there. Make a plan with a trusted friend to hold on to a few things you cannot carry in your bags and arrange for them to be mailed or picked up later. Only do this with one or two things that are easy to carry, because you will need to get it to them somehow, right? dont do this if you don't have the methods or the time before your runaway day. A good example is that I don't want to replace my laptop but I can't tow it through town and across state lines on a train. my friend can take care of it until I am settled.
Tie off any loose ends that you need to. This can be waiting for a responsibility to be gone, waiting for a last paycheck, or attending something you wanted to go to one last time.
Delete old accounts, and eventually deleting your emails and social media associated with your identity.
Note: The best thing you can do with time is make your supplies as efficient as possible, and plan. plan plan plan.
Schedule your leave date. or a range of leaving dates. But know sometimes it can be unpredictable. Make it a day when no one is home- especially if it's a dangerous situation.
On Runaway Day:
Hopefully you have a small window of time where you are alone.
Make sure you’re wearing all your runaway clothes you have prepared.
Pack your backpack and duffel bag quickly.
Leave a note, even if you don't want to. This is important, because you don't want a search for you because someone thought you were kidnapped or murdered. This way, officials can pretty much ignore it since it was voluntary.
Don’t look nervous or afraid while you are out, since that’ll draw unwanted attention.
If you made a plan for someone to pick you up, or to meet someone, make sure they are punctual. Don't meet right in front of your house if possible. Go a few streets away or somewhere less noticeable. Again, make sure whatever you bring is easy to carry so you move fast and no one tries to steal it.
If unfortunately you have to leave very quickly and haphazardly, leave anything not immediately important to survival behind.
Buy your burner phone with cash. Add your written numbers to the contacts. Create your new email and social media from there. If you're hiding, don't take pictures of yourself. Don't use your real name or information. Keep private accounts, and don't interact with anyone who will give you away.
If you have other travel plans, make your way there. Head to your safe places, your shelter, wherever you have planned. You are in your new life.
Once You Are Out:
Take care of your immediate needs. Find resources for food, water, and shelter.
Start accessing any support resources, regardless of what your situation is. In a town I lived in, there was an LGBTQ+ resource center that had entertainment/food/clothing/education clubs/showering/laundry/other amenities and programs for both lgbtq+ and homeless youth. I also took part in a gift drive for a specific minority that I qualified as, which gave me a lot of food.
Start working towards your future goals. Start job searching, and from there being able to secure housing. Start making friends. build a support structure. i hope it goes well
Rebuild your supplies and closet when you have the location security to do so.

How to Work With Fae/Faires
Fae are repelled by negative energy in and around the home and areas that have low energy. So thoroughly cleansing every portion of the home and the land nearby is a sound idea.
—Having a clean home, free of clutter, dust, and a mess is an absolute must as Fae cannot stand a mess.
—Find a powerful location for your altar.
—Don’t demand too much from them in the beginning and instead bask in their graciousness, overall just be extremely humble.
—Speaking softly or singing, as well as playing gentle music or burning well-fragranced candles helps create a pleasing atmosphere. Leaving out honey or even a little bit of alcohol will be appreciated.
Tumblr media
How do I Know I’m Working Fae?
The overall energy of the home will become stronger, more positive, and lighter as you begin working with them.
Some people say that they see them as dazzling points of light that stay for a second or two. Smile and acknowledge them.
General mental health may improve over time.

Mental Health Strategies
I have dealt with various mental health BS (anxiety, depression, ADHD), and while I haven't gotten it all figured out, I have been dealing with it for well over a decade now. I figured I would make a list of coping mechanisms that have helped me and are worth trying out if you haven't already. None of these things are “magic” (just try this and your brain will be all fixed!),  and obviously not applicable in all situations. I mostly learned these via therapy or from other people struggling with mental illness. This also may or may not be to help me have a list of things written down for when I forget.
Putting this below a keep reading thing because this got long FAST:
For depression funks:
-Find a small task you can complete. Wash a dish, throw clothes in the hamper, take out the trash, etc. Something small.
-Take a shower. And try changing clothes. Even if it's in to some pajamas. If you aren't up to showering, try washing your face and maybe wiping down with a wipe. But a change of clothes will still feel better.
-Eat something. Doesn't have to be "healthy." Some food, no matter what it is, is better than no food.
-Can you get outside? Doesn't have to be to excercise. Just sitting on the front steps for a few minutes in the sun.
-Doing something to take care of yourself. Can you brush your teeth? Have a glass of water? Brush your hair? Just pick one thing and so it.
-Plan something. See if you can get a friend to meet you to hang out (or zoom) or maybe for dinner. For yourself, maybe find a movie to go see (post pandemic). Preferably find something that has a set time.
For panics:
- Square breathing. Breathe in for 5, hold for 5, breath out for 5, hold for 5. Repeat.
-There are a ton of meditations on youtube. Search "5 minute meditation" and you'll find a ton of videos.
-After the initial panic is over try calling a friend. If you can't for some reason (sometimes it's 3 am or your friend isn't available), try finding some cat videos on youtube. I highly recommend Cole and Marmalade. Something light that will get your brain on something else.
For Executive Dysfunction:
-Remove steps to putting things away. For awhile in school, I would have a mess of papers that weren't organized or put away because I was trying to use a binder. As silly as it sounds, having to neatly align paper holes or got find a place to punch those holes, would prevent me from putting things away. So I switched to folders. Suddenly I stopped losing things and my papers were organized.
-Bullet journaling. Or rather, I just have a little notebook where I put all my to do lists, grocery lists, project planning, brainstorming, etc. I don't properly Bullet Journal (TM) but I keep all my lists in one spot and it helps.
-To do lists in general. Writing out steps to get something done. Cross things out when you finish them. You get a better sense of accomplishment.
-When executive dysfunction is preventing you from getting out of bed, break it down. Step one, sit up. Step 2, swing legs over side. Step 3 stand up.
-Same with any task. If it seems too overwhelming or you just can't bring yourself to do it, it might be because you are looking at all the steps and feeling it's too much. So just think about the first one.
-Alarms and reminders. I put everything on a calendar in my phone. Google Calendar allows you to set a reminder for events days, weeks, hours, and minutes ahead. You can also set alarms for things like "I know I need to leave at 3 for the appointment, so I am going to set an alarm for 2:45 to start getting ready." Do not rely on yourself to look at the clock. YOU WILL NOT LOOK AT THE CLOCK IN TIME.
-Set the dang alarm clock across the room. That way, you gotta get out of bed to turn it off. Once out of bed, go take any meds, or if you don’t have meds, go do a small morning task. Usually doing this small task is enough to get me awake enough to not get back into bed. If I do, well, at least I have taken my meds.
Sensory Issues:
- Fitted sweat pants and hiking pants. I can’t stand tight clothing, but I want to look presentable. Sweatpants that taper can still look decent. Travel pants or hiking pants (you can find these at places like REI), basically look like slacks but are made out of stretchy material. They also usually are made out of quick dry material which is nice.
-Fidget and sensory toys. I really like hedgehog rings which have these little spikes on them I can run my thumb over. Also the tangle. I have a tangle that has a rubber coating that has little bumps on it. What you end up liking might differ, but those are two of my favorite. Also, if anyone gives you shit about these, you can explain “it’s sorta like a stress ball, but instead you [whatever you do with this fidget toy].”
-Ear plugs. I wear these a lot because I have particular issues with sounds, especially certain ones. I prefer either silicone gummy ones or I like these that are “slim” because they don’t make my ears hurt. You can also get musician ear plugs that are made for musicians to protect their hearing, but still be able to hear tones and what is going on, for when sound is simply too load (also good for concerts).
For General ADHD things:
-Work somewhere different. This is a bit limited due to the pandemic currently, but just working at the kitchen table instead of your bedroom can help. In college, I used to go to the library to work. Just the idea that I was going to someplace specific to do a specific task, helped me actually get started.
-Promise yourself that you will work for 10 minutes. Set an alarm if needed. Usually just starting will make the task seem less intimidating. If 10 minutes is too much, do 5.
-Cardio. Get your self moving. This is good for a lot of things, but I highly recommend it for before you have to sit down to work on a task, like school work. I personally run, but if that’s not your thing dance, a class, walking, biking, etc. Just whatever you like.
-Time dependent things are good to get yourself going. Again, this is limited by the pandemic, but for normal times, can you meet a friend for breakfast? Can you schedule your appointment so you have to get to it before you start work? When I was in college, I used to go to morning gym classes before my first class of the day. This got me up and if I was 5 minutes late, it was better to do that for a gym class than a physics class. Bonus because it was exercise and I could focus better on the class.
-In classes, try to find a notes buddy or study group. That way, if you zoned out a moment, you can ask them for the notes from that section and vice versa. Also, meeting up with them is a great way to have a set time to study.
For General Anxiety/ Depression:
-This is going to sound cheesy as fuck, but: Make a list for what you are good at. Things you like about yourself. Things you have accomplished. They don’t have to be super deep, but can be. Do you like your nose? Can you paint your nails well? Are you good at understanding your cat? Are you good at writing? Drawing? Did you overcome a bad test and still manage to pass a class?  If you have a friend or significant other that you are comfortable with, ask them to help maybe. Keep this list for when you feel like shit.
-Yoga. I’m sorry to put this on here because it seems like the most neurotypical advice, but. I honestly love this shit. If you haven’t given it a shot, there’s a reason why people like it. You don’t have to belong to a gym to try it. I highly recommend Yoga with Adrienne. She has some great beginner videos.
-Take breaks from social media and news as needed. Seriously. You are a single person and can’t fix everything. Do what you can (share the information, make a donation, join in mutual aid efforts, etc.) but doom scrolling and obsessing won’t help anyone. If you won’t do it for yourself, consider that burning yourself out will make you unable to help later on.
-Create things. They don’t have to be amazing. Crocheting, knitting, drawing, writing, etc. Having something that you can look at and be like “I made that” is really satisfying. Youtube has some great tutorials for pretty much anything. For drawing, I really like Proko. He has some great videos on drawing faces. But again: IT DOESN’T NEED TO BE GOOD.
General Resources/ Advice:
-If you are currently in college, most campuses will have groups for counseling and even limited one on one sessions. Usually, these counseling groups are free and the one on one sessions can help you find a counselor nearby.
-How to ADHD. Seriously I love this youtube channel. She goes over how ADHD affects the brain and has seriously helped me understand it better.
-The Trevor Project. For LGBTQ teens and youth. They have a hotline and many other resources.
-If what is stopping you from getting therapy is the idea that you are being dramatic/ are not that bad/ others have it worse: Go get therapy. What are we going to do, find the one person who has it the worst off than anyone and only they are allowed to feel bad and get help? Screw that. Get some help.
-Remember that there are good things in your future. Where ever you are in life, you have something positive in your future, even if you don’t know it yet. One day, there will be a moment when you look back on the dark times and be so glad you didn’t give up.
-Obligatory: https://suicidepreventionlifeline.org/  (1-800-273-8255). This is national suicide prevention lifeline, for the US. They can help.

Dabbler’s Week - research proposal edition
I say “Research proposal” because this isn’t so much going to be what I’d ACTUALLY use as a guide, it’s just the STRUCTURE I’d use to write the guide, and why I chose what I did. For a little background on what the hell is going on, see @asksecularwitch‘s post here.
Monday - Spellwork
What: A simple candle-and-petition-paper spell. Dabbler chooses what they want, but with the instruction that it is straightforward, specific, and tangible. The Drake-Meme format would be: “I want to increase my wealth” ✋ - “I want ten bucks in the coming week” 👈 The spell is written out exactly as performed, really hand-holdy, Do This, Then This, Next This, Finally This.
Why: Look, if I were brand new and gonna pick a “dabble in witchcraft for a week” thing, I’d want to start out doing some effin’ witchcraft. So we’ll start with casting a spell. It’s written super hand-holdy because at the beginning, you really just want some step-by-step instructions on what to do. Also a week is a good time frame to give a spell, and casting it at the beginning gives it a chance to manifest by the end of the week. And FURTHERMORE, it’s a surprise tool that will help us later...
Tuesday - Cleansing a Space
What: Dabbler picks out a space to cleanse, told that the space they choose will be made into a sacred space tomorrow. They will play music of their choosing (with a few suggestions to get them started, just so nobody’s floundering, aka “relaxing yoga music, or something loud and peppy, your favorite childhood song, a meme song that makes you laugh, etc.”) while they also mundanely clean the space.
Why: Cleansing is one of those Cornerstone Witchy Things that everyone talks about offhandedly, like “cleanse your space after this spell”, and giving the Dabbler a simple way of doing that is a good first tool to have in their bag. Music is freely available, and it’s customizable, and playing music while doing a mundane cleaning associates the Magical Cleaning with the Mundane Cleaning in their mind, so they get a sense of “clean vibes” as related to “clean space”. Sidenote: the space can be a shelf, a box, a corner of the room, whatever. Might have some notes in there about other things they can add to their cleansing, like the usual magical washes or sprays, lighting a candle, or whatever. Nothing too complicated at this point, though, we’re still taking baby steps.
Wednesday - Creating a Sacred Space
What: The Dabbler picks out items they already have on hand to create a sacred space in the area that was cleansed the day before (the shelf, box, corner, whatever). Sacred here meaning “Set apart; special”, not necessarily “holy; religious”. Dabbler is encouraged to decorate and arrange things until they feel it has the proper vibe.
Why: This is to encourage the Dabbler to think about the mundane things around their own home, and how those things can be magical just by Deciding That They Are. The idea is not necessarily to create an Altar, though it can also work as practice for that should the Dabbler later choose to have one. In my own practice, I don’t have a permanent Sacred Space, because it doesn’t really fit what I do or how I live. But I tried making some when I first started, and I think it was an important learning point. Now, when I feel that I DO need a sacred space, I’m able to whip one up with whatever is around, and I think that’s a great skill to have. It’s helpful to know and feel what “Sacred” or “Special” feels like to the individual, what it takes for you to really vibe with a space or setting. My spaces are more about reining in my hyperactive brain and creating a boundary for it to focus on, not about creating a holy circle of ground, but I know what that distinction feels like BECAUSE of the times I dabbled in creating sacred spaces. This is when your brain gets to learn what It’s Witchin’ Time feels like.
Thursday - Herbal Correspondences
What: The Dabbler goes to their own kitchen or garden and picks out three spices, herbs, and/or flowers (that they 100% know what they are). At this point, it isn’t necessary to actually gather them, just to write down what is easily accessible at that moment. They then check out the Wikipedia article on their chosen herbs, and build their own correspondence list from that article.
Why: “Whoa whoa whoa, Jes, why are you suggesting Wikipedia??” Oh easy. Because it’s accessible, it’s free, and it’s not witchy. Wikipedia gets a bad rap as a resource for a variety of reasons, but for what it does, it does well. It’s an encyclopedia, so it is by nature a surfacey resource. That’s okay. That’s all we need right now. Instead of googling magical correspondences of cinnamon and finding 1000+ lists that all copied from a copy of a copy of a copy of Crowley and then not knowing WHY that thing has that correspondence, the Dabbler is going to learn to make their own by starting a (very basic) relationship with that herb. Example: I was trying to research magical correspondences of base oils, but everything I found was one-word answers, most of which was “fertility”. Which was... entirely not helpful. So I set out to make my own. Specific example: I looked into castor oil (according to “magickal” sources, it’s correspondence is simply “protection”), but my mundane research taught me that it’s been used for hydraulic and brake fluids, used in food preservation, sold as a laxative, and historically has been used as torture and humiliation (with the laxative effect, I’m sure you can figure out exactly how). Well NOW we’re getting somewhere, because now I associate it with “getting things moving”, whether in a negative or positive way. Having the Dabbler learn to do mundane research like this helps strengthen their relationship with what they use, teaches them that they can research their own materials without needing another Witch (or an Amazon Lisa) to do it for them, and teaches them that they can use what they have on hand rather than consulting a magical list of things they don’t have and wondering where the hell they’re supposed to buy white willow bark.
Friday - Divination
What: The Dabbler will gather small trinkets that they already have and collect them in a box or bag. They then ask questions (possibly with the aid of a list of suggested questions?) and draw a trinket (or cast a couple, if they’re feeling adventurous!) and interpret.
Why: I love Tarot as much as the next witch, but it’s not always practical for the starting witch. And in my experience, I can be dragged just as hard by my trinkets as I can by my traditional tarot decks. Gathering trinkets is (again, as you’re starting to see a theme, I hope) a way to use what is already on hand. And after the Wikipedia exercise from the previous day, the Dabbler should have a little bit of practice in thinking about associations. The action figure their nephew left at their house can mean “lost” but it can also mean “found”, or it’s Spiderman and means “responsibility” or Wonder Woman means “truth”, etc.
Saturday - Crafting a Charm
What: The Dabbler will create a simple charm (most likely a protective one, but I’m not married to the idea). They’ll use their own skills to hand make something tangible, however simple it may be. Could be crafting a keychain using their beading skills, or embroidering a small design onto their jeans pocket, or as simple as wrapping a colored thread around a ring they wear. Whatever it is, it will be a thing that they make with their hands.
Why: We’re falling away from the railroad guidelines at this point in the week, and encouraging the Dabbler to start thinking on their own about what they can do. There’s still suggestions so they don’t get totally lost, but it’s far less hand-holdy than the first spell of the week. With two whole exercises about thinking through associations of things, hopefully they can start to come to conclusions on their own (”You know, I think I’ll hang a safety pin from the keychain, because that just Feels Right to me” or “This string should be blue, because that’s the color of my protective gloves at work”). And the second purpose of the charm is... it’s a tangible thing. It’s a souvenir. If at the end of the week the Dabbler decides that they had fun but witchcraft isn’t for them, cool. But maybe three years down the line, they find that keychain they made during Witch Camp Week, and they think “Oh hey, I remember doing that...” and perhaps it comes to them at exactly the time they need it and they decide to pick it up again. (Or they find it and go “lol that wasn’t for me” and chuck it in the trash. Failure is always an option!)
Sunday - Spellwork Redux
What: Get in losers, we’re casting the same spell again. Well, not the SAME spell, but the same sort. That candle spell from the beginning of the week? The Dabbler will now repeat it with similar purpose. BUT, this time they are to modify the spell somehow. Even less guidelines here now. Maybe they want to perform the spell in their sacred space. Maybe they want to cleanse before performing it. Maybe they want to sprinkle some herbs on the candle, or steep some herbs in hot water and use a brush to write on the paper. Whatever they do is theirs to decide.
Why: EXPERIMENTATION. Really, how often do any of us see a cool spell and then perform it EXACTLY AS WRITTEN? I don’t know about you, but I always always always have to modify it somehow, whether it’s to fit what I have, fit my paradigm, or just because personalization is important in my craft. Redoing the spell with a little bit of tweaking means the Dabbler gets to close off the week with a little more of that Witches Casting Spells stuff that they probably expected, but with a chance to see how they can change it now, how they can make it more suited to them, or how they think it might work better. Maybe it will work better. Maybe it will be worse. Either way is a result.
Conclusion - or the TL;DR
Guidelines at the beginning of the week, transitioning to more creative freedom by the end of the week. Heavy encouragement of using what’s freely on hand and easily accessible, rather than buying specialty materials that may or may not be helpful or ever used again (not to mention could be hella expensive). Some spells, because let’s be honest, some people just really really want the spellz. And mundane research, because it’s too often neglected even among the veteran witches.

Note
Hi! Sooo I’m back in college and it’s getting harder because of virtuality and I’m having a hard time trying to focus, do you have any spells to help me with it? I’m a baby witch btw :s
Hello! While witchcraft can aid in things like this, it will be useless if you don’t make a real, mundane effort as well:
Setting it up:
Have a specific spot where you sit while doing schoolwork.
Put your phone in another room. Seriously. Unless you have a good reason, having your phone within reach or sight will be distracting.
Set up the space. If it helps, play certain music, drink the same drink, light the same candle when it’s time to get into the zone. Help yourself remember it’s time to focus.
Sometimes changing out of pajamas can help, and sometimes it’s nice to feel cozy.
Light a study candle, keep crystals that help with memory and focus nearby, enchant a cup of tea or coffee. (See links at bottom)
Work in sections + create manageable goals:
Look at your coursework. Note deadlines. Create a weekly plan: what is the ideal amount you do each day, and what is the minimum you can get away with (while acknowledging that you’ll have to do more later).
Make your own (earlier) deadlines when manageable. It’s such a wonderful feeling to be done with something before it’s due, and working ahead gives you some leeway if you have a rough day.
Have a set amount of time you’ll be focused on schoolwork. If you can only manage 15 minute chunks, that’s fine (unless it’s a required time frame, obviously). Just truly focus on your work, then allow yourself a short break.
When I was doing online classes I’d try to have some sort of project going that I was excited to work on. I could take a break from my schoolwork, do a bit of the project (knitting, sketching, etc.) and then return to my schoolwork. If you turn to technology, it’s easier to get distracted.
Sigils on your weekly plan, enchant it, write down your intentions for the week (what you’d like to achieve this week, how you’d like to be, how you’d like to treat yourself), etc. (See links at bottom)
Making it work for you:
If you’re a tactile person, writing things down/printing them may help rather than having everything on the computer. I often took notes to ensure I understood the material, and to have it as an easy reference later.
Pay attention to when you feel most focused during the day. While many consider this to be morning, this isn’t true for everyone. If you know you’ll be most productive--and you aren’t just procrastinating--in the evenings, don’t force yourself to do something and take twice as long in the mornings.
Lecture doesn’t fully make sense and it’s harder to ask questions? There are likely online resources that explain it in a different way! The internet can be your friend.
Move around. Have your specific schoolwork spot, and leave it during breaks if needed. Walk to the kitchen, drink some water. Look out the window. Move your body and allow your mind a break.
Know your needs. Know your learning style. How can you best support yourself? How can you be kind to your future self?
Take care of yourself. Eat foods that feel good for your body, drink enough water, be sure to move around, try to have a consistent sleep schedule.
There are loads of well-written articles on how to be successful in online courses, I’d highly recommend browsing them and creating a plan and support system for yourself!

Helping Others in Need
It makes me so upset when I see/hear people who CLAIM to be Christians who don’t help others who are hungry and need to be sheltered and clothed and provided for when Jesus CLEARLY commanded us to. It’s because of the cushy living that we’ve been living in. We’re so used to having jobs, having homes, having money, having food, having clothes, having everything provided for us since birth, and instead of being grateful and trying to use our blessings to bless others, as God commanded us, we decide to hoard it for ourselves and lazily think that God will take care of those in need because He’s God, when WE are the vessels He’s wanted to work through. We have been brainwashed into thinking that talking and thinking is the same as action. We have been brainwashed to ignoring our fellow man under the assumption that other people will do it so we’re not needed.
James 2:14-17 says: “14 What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can such a faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? 17 So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.”
Also, just because somebody calls themselves a Christian, doesn’t make them a Christian. Even the demons believe in God and Jesus... and SHUDDER in fear! A Christian is someone who proves his faith by his actions, by helping other people and providing for them as Jesus had done as He gave food to the multitude as he chatted with His disciples.
Also, remember the Pharisees? They were the wealthiest people in Israel and were considering, in that time, to have the favor of God because of their wealth (though they got their wealth through corrupt means). One of Jesus’s chief accusations against the Pharisees was in not doing good on the Sabbath, and in placing their own laws and traditions of men above serving and providing for their own people with the wealth that they had been blessed with. What was Jesus’s entire ministry? Healing the sick, bringing sight to the blind, and hearing to the deaf, raising the dead, feeding the hungry, giving water to the thirsty.... HELPING PEOPLE.
So if Jesus was like that with the Pharisees, what would He think of US, who sit around eating and drinking and going on vacations like Kings and Queens, but ignore our fellow human beings who are waiting on God to provide for them, but can’t, because He’s waiting for US to notice? If all that Jesus was doing in His ministry was helping people and providing for their needs, then why aren’t WE doing the same thing? Just seems contradictory to me.
Also, one more thing: It GALLS me to see my fellow Christians say “Go in peace; keep warm and well-fed,” to those who are in need of help but ignore the Spirit’s urging for them to help, only for them (the Christians) to whine and blame God when they’re the ones in need and nothing happens. And God’s like, “Why should I help you when you failed to do the same for your brethren?”
Proverbs 21:13 says: “Whoever shuts their ears to the cry of the poor will also cry out and not be answered.”
Matthew 25:40 tells us that whatever we do to even the least of our brethren, we do to the Father and His Son — for good or for ill. Also, what we don’t do will be taken into account as well. So beware!
If you wish God to show mercy and come to your aid when you’re in serious need, then do the same for your brethren who suffer around you every day and are waiting for you to be God’s instrument and vessel through which provision and even healing can be given. God works through His people; if his people can’t be bothered to become the conductor through which light and healing can be administered, then God cannot move. For He has elected to work only through His people in order to bring light into this dark and cold and miserable world. If Jesus had not moved to help those in need, there would’ve been no miracles, and there definitely would NOT have been the cross. If the disciples had not done the things they did to help those in need, there would’ve been no miracles, and Christianity would not have been spread, and there would’ve been no Book of Acts.
Hint: It’s called ACTS for a reason. It wasn’t called the Book of Plans, or the Book of Blessing or Encouragement, or the Book of Talking. It was called the Book of ACTS, because the Disciples took action and saw the needs of those around them and saw to those needs. THEN they told the Gospel. Same with what Jesus did.
I don’t mean to preach, but this has been ruffling my feathers for years. But we NEED to step forward and be like Christ. You want to know why the world HATES us Christians in the Western world? It’s because we’re hypocrites; we say one thing and do another. We say we believe, but we don’t. We say that we love God and follow Him, yet we don’t follow what He commanded us to do. Jesus said, “I do the will of my Father, the One who sent Me.” and his entire ministry was helping people and providing for their needs. So why aren’t we doing it? The world hates us because they know that the Bible says this, but we don’t do it. We say we believe and is what we should do, but at the same time, we assume God will do it or tell someone else to do it, when we are in a position and have the resources to do it. And the recipient remains hungry, cold, and still in poverty.
Edmund Burke once said, “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”
Brothers, if we are doing nothing, we are allowing EVIL to TRIUMPH! How can this be? Satan wants us to do nothing. Us sitting on our haunches gives him the legal right and authority to move. The Spirit can only move and good can only triumph when we step up and DO something for the good of others — even if it’s at our own expense and we are required to sacrifice something. Was not the Assembly in the Apostles’ time praised because of their sacrifice and their willingness to help others, even at the cost of their own lives? Those during the Middle Ages were willing to help heal those who had the Plague and often died themselves as a result. Tell me... are YOU willing to make such a sacrifice? Even if it’s not your life, what about your finances, your reputation, your pride, your job, your relationships with your family and/or friends, etc? Even if the government outlawed such attempts, would you not do it?
Christianity, our Faith, is all about SACRIFICE — a concept that is strange and foreign to today’s generation of believers. Many of them haven’t even read James or much of the Bible to begin with. They just sit back and listen to the preacher preach. Their faith isn’t reality for them.
And let us not forget Paul’s Epistles and those written by John, as well as the Old Testament — ALL of them talk about how to HELP people and SACRIFICE and PROVIDE for the poor, the widows, and the orphans. (Paul commends the Philippians for their going above and beyond the call of duty in their offerings and SACRIFICING so that other churches can be blessed and so the Gospel can grow.) They even go as far as to say that the summing up of the faith, according to James, is to look after the poor, widows, and the orphans. God clearly says multiple times in Scripture that He will bless those who hear the cries of the poor, the widows, and the orphans, and will punish severely those who close their ears and eyes towards them. I mean, that’s heavy stuff. Even going so far as to say that He will make the offender’s wife and children become widows and orphans if we ignore the cries of those in need and continue indulging ourselves. The Father HATES those who do nothing for those in need, because God intentionally placed them there to test our faith and so that we can be a light for the world.
“The poor you will always have with you” (Matthew 26:11).
Always... meaning that there’ll never come a time until Jesus returns when there’ll cease to be any poor, needy, widows and/or orphans. Why? Because every generation of FOLLOWERS need to have the opportunity to become Lights of God. Without them, it would be impossible for us to be able to prove that our faith is the real deal and there’d be no anvil to hammer us into refined gold.
Okay, I need to stop before I get ahead of myself. lol XD
Think about it. Pray about it. But more than anything, be a DOER of the Word, and NOT a HEARER only. Go Home and Read Your Bible! Thanks!
Shalom and Agape, Brothers and Sisters, and to those who aren’t a part of the Assembly who have read this artlcle. I hope that this has been a blessing to you all and has been of some encouragement or conviction. Love you guys. ^_^

The Investment of an Antagonist - Part One
Entry 04. [Trigger warning content: post contains discussion of Far Cry 5 details including cannibalism, graphic violence, brainwashing, torture, child abuse mention, neglect, mentioned fatalistic/suicidal character pov, dark backstories, etc. Spoilers naturally. Part 01 of 03.] [Link to part two here.] [Link to part three here.] I was cooking dinner and had the sudden EUREKA moment of trying to figure out what exactly I want with regards to an antagonist for an original fic setting. Originally I was going to have a general state of conflict between two nations/city-states/etc on a larger, more impersonal scale, but that didn’t do anything to really interest me in that level of conflict. So I was thinking on why Far Cry 5′s villains and the conflict interests me so, and the eureka moment was realizing that they as villains have a personal stake in all this, and go about it in ways that are reflective of their stories. Specifically for the Seeds, it has me realizing it’s more interesting to me when the villain is acting due to personal motivations of an emotional nature and/or relating to their belief system, and in ways that compliment those internal motivations that can build out into or off of their backstories and other areas of the tale.
Like, it’s more than just a universally formulaic method of brainwashing for all of the people they kidnap during the Reaping (and before it, since it’s a cult and that means there’s a process of indoctrination, ie brainwashing.) All of the Heralds have their specific manner of doing so, and said methods are tailored to the particulars of each Herald’s backstory as is revealed to us.
— Jacob —
Jacob starves the Deputy and other “recruits,” exposes them to the elements, doesn’t give them enough water, keeps them near hungry and dangerous animals (pre-Judge wolves and Judges it seems.) He then gives them a bowl of raw meat that one can read as implied to be human flesh, particularly if Pratt’s anecdote about going hunting in what ends up being not-a-dream from online sources is taken into consideration, as mentioned in a previous writing-about-writing post. Link here to the audio, (credit and thanks to hopecountyradio,) transcription below: “I had a dream once that Jacob took me on a hunt. We shot some deer and he asked me to skin 'em. As I was cuttin’ ‘em open they changed. It wasn’t deer. I...I don’t think it was a dream.”
Obviously one can make some assumptions of Whitetail Militia imagery being used here, particularly given that one of the slides on the projector screens during the Trials includes a picture of Eli with antlers iirc (that may be only during the later trials or the last one, I am uncertain.) Ties right into the whole “the weak must be culled,” and “you are meat,” slogans Jacob’s got all over the place. The “only you” slogans and graffiti could also serve to foster the loneliness and isolation aspect of making the choice “to make the sacrifice” ie, the symbolic choice of killing Miller, or his surrogate equivalent in the case of everyone else that Jacob puts through his trials. I haven’t seen a lot regarding Miller’s ties to Jacob from in-game content but I could have missed something easily. The wiki labels Miller as Jacob’s friend, though I wish we had more detail on that. Most certainly, Miller was a member of Jacob’s unit, which based off of some reading and browsing on the internet, should still be a pretty close tie whether or not they were friends. The following speculation is based on my own interpretations of the matter and I have no history of serving in the Armed Forces, so if I’m mistaken or such feel free to drop me a line to let me know. Continuing: even if they theoretically hated each other’s guts, they were still a part of the unit, a part of the Army. That means they and their other brothers-in-arms lived together and fought together. They ate as a group, slept as a group, watched each others’ backs while on watch or during a firefight, fought along side each other, and did their best to keep each other alive while fulfilling the mission objective, working together as individuals brought together in a cohesive unit that also was a part of the whole. They all knew they had each others’ backs and that the others did the same for them in turn. Shifting between life-or-death situations and more peaceful times, it creates a bond and social structure that is very unlike most common, modern civilian social structures. There certainly at least seems to be a bit of culture shock in the US between the two environs, and Jacob seems to have experienced that, based on what we hear of his backstory in The Book of Joseph of having little to no support once back in civilian life (ie: deeply traumatized and staying in veteran hospitals until he ran out of money and ended up in homeless shelters) after being discharged from the Army. In the Armed Forces it’s about the group, rather than the individual. Imagine having that, knowing that, after being through all that Jacob has potentially been through. To have brothers in arms if not by blood by his side who he protects, who also protect him against the hostility of the world they’re fighting against. This is not to ding Joseph or John as characters by the way, all three of them were children at that point and shouldn’t have had to deal with any of that. Jacob loses what ties of family he holds dear with his blood brothers once he’s put into Juvie, perhaps makes friends there but is likely on his own once he’s out again, with very poor prospects given his history, and then he enlists. He’s alone and without support before he joins the military, and then suddenly he’s in an environment where there IS a form of support, and it’s predictable and structured down to the last bootlace (note: that’s a very broad statement and does not include variance and personal experiences, nor possible issues with potential power abuse or other flaws that might arise in such group structures.) Imagine Jacob being in the Army long enough to get used to that, to enjoy that aspect of it all, to share the camaraderie of bitching about the heat of the sun, sand in their socks, and getting yet another package of their least favorite MRE while trying to wheedle a trade with someone else for something better. Imagine him doing that with Miller, knowing how the other man likes the sugar cookie desserts in one MRE package and hates how the chocolate bars melt from the desert heat in another. Knowing what each others’ tells and bluffs are from playing poker on their down time while on a tour. Swapping stories about home...and noticing who doesn’t want to talk about the life they had before enlisting. Talking about the things they miss, the people they miss. Knowing who snores, who’s a light sleeper, all those things you learn when you’re in close proximity to a person for perhaps up to two years or so depending on deployment length. It could also be they’ve been deployed together more than once, as Jacob certainly went out on multiple tours per The Book of Joseph once again. Imagine Jacob knowing all of that and more about Miller. Then, day after day after day of being lost in the desert, with starvation eating away at their rationality, that hollow pain in their guts as their bodies start burning through their own cells and reserves to try to stay alive, running out of water and having to take chances with any drinking source they can find in the environment and having to expend precious energy to try or die early from dehydration, probably not sleeping well from the hunger, exhaustion, stress, possible enemy presence, dangerous wildlife... The brain starts shutting down real quick once we don’t have the resources it needs to run optimally. Some faster than others, but in Jacob and Miller’s case, their ordeal is definitely long enough to put them into that mindset of feeling that primal fear of a slow death by famine, weakness, scarcity. The psychological toll would have been heavy without a doubt, and that might’ve been compounded by experiences in Jacob’s childhood if his parents were not dutiful in buying food more regularly, which easily could be the case. Old Mad Seed needs more whiskey this month to fuel his raging, drunken fits of spewing biblical verses in a tyrannical fashion? There goes the money for the last few days of food. Easily could be how Jacob got into stealing candy (and likely also food in that case) for himself and his brothers. So Jacob would have a good idea of some of what’s coming down the pipe in that case. He knows how long the trip is, can reckon how fast the two can travel. Maybe he starts out hopeful in a grim way to start... ...but over time as things get more and more desperate (and it could be a familiar desperation he’s felt before as a kid going hungry, only worse,) “And I looked at Miller and I could tell we were as good as dead. And I accepted that. And in that acceptance...came clarity.” That clarity could very well be that Jacob decided that morality was futile if it meant you didn’t survive, which could very well be a very world-breaking revelation for him, since he is mentioned in his backstory to have had a praiseworthy sense of honor among other things. Certainly is potentially spirit breaking to go from being the older brother, the brother-in-arms who relied on and was relied on, who was trusted, to being a betrayer of that trust. A Judas, one could say, as he calls Pratt in his video after Pratt has helped the Deputy escape. And what does Jacob make the Deputy become, in relation to Eli? Eli, the man the Deputy was rescued by, was aided by, has been working alongside this entire time. Eli, who trusts and relies on the Deputy. Eli, who it could be said betrayed Jacob’s friendship with him by choosing not to hand over the Whitetail Militia and join Eden’s Gate (from Jacob’s perspective, based on his final fight dialogue.) “Hey. Only you could have gotten this close. Only you could have earned his trust. It was always only ever you. Good work. You did it. You passed your test. You made your sacrifice. But now...you’re alone. And you’re weak. And we know what happens to the weak.” That might seem contradictory at first, since in theory making the sacrifice should make one “strong” by Jacob’s line of reasoning, one might think. But the Deputy is a “traitor” now—to the Whitetail Militia by brainwashing (temporarily as we the audience know, pending Jacob’s death,) and to Jacob by choice, if one takes the following lines from Jacob into consideration: “You’ve forgotten your purpose, Deputy. You were on the path of the Chosen but now you’ve strayed. Fear did this to you, but don’t worry, I can help with that. I can remove your fear and give you strength. It’s not too late. Come back to me. Remember your purpose.” ”Deputy, know that I still have hope for you, but if you continue to support Eli and his merry band of cowards, that hope will cease to exist. Your judgement is cloudy because your mind is weak, but I have confidence you’ll make the right choice in the end. If not—you’ll all pay in blood.” Link to the audio for the above two lines here (credit and appreciation to hopecountyradio once more.) As with the other Seeds, Jacob starts out trying to persuade the Deputy to “see the light” and join the Project, but as with all of them, as the resistance meter rises and we draw closer to the final confrontation with him, he and the others abandon that idea in favor of trying to end the Deputy instead. So in this possible interpretation, it could be that Jacob views both the Deputy and Eli as traitors both. However...the two situations while both likely quite weighty with the Deputy being “the chosen one” to kick off the Collapse (or a herald of the Collapse if one wants to be cute with wording,) and Eli being an ex-good-friend or perhaps even ex-best-friend of Jacob’s, are potentially vastly different in emotional weight to Jacob. The Deputy is all tied up with this Collapse business, and while Jacob isn’t sure if Joseph talks to God, he does support him, what with being a Herald in the cult and all that. It involves the fate of the family, and in particular, Jacob’s family—his brothers and sister. Eli, however, Jacob has known for a while, likely years, back during the construction of the bunkers which Eli helped with, possibly and likely before then. I personally lean towards interpreting that as they struck up the beginning of a friendship, and Jacob hired Eli and his crew to help with the construction of the cult’s bunkers. Where they had their falling out is less clear as far as I’m aware. It could be it was during or after construction that Eli got a bad feeling about all of this Eden’s Gate business, or perhaps even as late as the beginning of the Reaping if that’s when Jacob gave Eli the “chance” to hand over his Whitetail Militia members, as mentioned in his final boss battle red-bliss section. That could’ve been the breaking point for Jacob and Eli, and if Jacob was expecting Eli to side with him due to friendship and perhaps some shared beliefs...perhaps Jacob took that...poorly. And by poorly I mean went full out on revenge of having Eli killed by betrayal of someone he’d chosen to trust—someone that Jacob had already gotten his hooks into. Someone Eli needed, in this fight against Jacob. Someone like the Deputy. The Deputy, who’s been put through starvation, exposure, and ingrained through conditioning and likely a liberal use of Bliss to facilitate said conditioning, to hunt. To train. To kill. To sacrifice. “You take away a man’s basic needs, and he will revert to his primordial instinct in just ten days.” [Chuckles.] “Ah, that’s a difficult thing to understand unless you’ve lived it...” This is what Jacob is putting the “recruits” and the Deputy through—his revelation. His experience. His choice. In the end as Jacob succumbs to his injuries, he is weak, he is dying, and he knows it, looking at the Deputy in his final scene. This time, he is the one who is sacrificed, by the Deputy, and in Jacob’s eyes by Joseph, to either try to end the chaos spread across the county, or to break a seal respectively. Jacob’s death is a means to an end—as Miller’s was. And Jacob “accepts that,” as he puts it. Does he accept it because now he’s betrayed the trust and faith of potentially two people he might’ve been close to? Miller, and then Eli? Is Jacob conditioning the Deputy during that red-bliss sequence of his boss fight to kill Jacob, based on how there are bliss-hallucinations of Jacob to shoot while destroying the beacons? There’s the generic Whitetail fighter, Judges, and Jacob himself scattered across the landscape before ending that sequence as far as I’m aware. Both Jacob and the Whitetail fighter present could be interpreted in this line of thinking as echoing the supposed betrayal of both sides and being “alone” against the world in a nightmarish fashion while Jacob potentially tries to break the Deputy through talking and said nightmare. The way Jacob talks though...is he strictly speaking to us, or is the Deputy actually a mirror as it were, with the things Jacob says being applicable to himself? “Don’t you find it ironic that everyone you try to help ends up worse off? Eli...Pratt...Tragedy just follows you. If you really wanted to keep people safe, be a hero...you’d just off yourself. Safer for everyone that way.” Is Jacob REALLY talking to us, or to himself through a medium? Through a glass darkly, as it were. He “tried” to “help” Eli and Pratt, in his twisted fashion, by trying to get Eli previously to join the Project and to make Pratt strong enough via brainwashing to also join the Project, which in Jacob’s perspective if he’s following his and Joseph’s dogma, is the only way to survive the Collapse. But Jacob has failed, repeatedly, to protect the people he held dear—his family. His friends. He’s become the threat they need protecting from. He has irrevocably perhaps proven to himself that under the right circumstances? He’s willing to betray people he holds dear for his own survival. Would he betray his family? That is the question, isn’t it. Perhaps Jacob fears finding out. Maybe he fears, that under the right circumstances, he would. Maybe that’s why he goes so willingly to be Joseph’s sacrifice, in part. Maybe having orchestrated Eli’s death, the death of yet one more person whom he was once friends with, yet one more person Jacob himself has betrayed, maybe Jacob doesn’t want to continue either. Maybe that’s the last straw, the nail in the coffin of underlying beliefs that Jacob is inherently not someone who can be fully trusted. Maybe he genuinely thought Eli would join him if given the chance. Maybe Jacob was still hollow and brittle as hell from the first time he’d killed a friend, when he killed Miller. All the Seeds bear the weight of their pasts heavily, and Jacob’s no exception. Jacob survived the first time, barely. He survived the second time, but not by long. He starts talking about his potential death at the Deputy’s hands quite early on during the red-bliss segment. Neither John nor Faith nor Joseph to my knowledge do so. Maybe he was waiting for the Deputy to be strong enough to finish what no one else could. Maybe that was what he wanted. “There’s no “win” for you here. It all ends bloody. For everyone. You die now, or you die later. It’s up to you. But either way? You won’t die a hero.” Perhaps that line from Jacob also is one of the things he fears most—dying without purpose. Dying being not a hero, a person who’s done good for others, but rather the opposite. Ironically so, given that he and his family are all in the torture and brainwashing business, but Jacob in particular gave up on being a good person a long time ago, I think, even by the cult’s standards. True North Winter Tips
I’ve casually looked around the internet (namely pinterest and youtube) for winter wardrobe tips and have genuinely laughed and been disappointed at the content that was brought up. Not that these people uploading these things didn’t post quality things, they just live in an area where their idea of Winter isn’t....well....is it REALLY Winter? Peep toed any sort of shoe? Thin knee length skirts with sheer tights? It just wasn’t practical and where I live I’m surrounded by northern, older generation practicality. I have a deep appreciation for the logical, simple, practical views on things here so I thought I’d share some. Some of them you may already do...they aren’t all about clothes because in real Northern weather it’s just not something you entirely think about.
Tumblr media
1.) Dress appropriately. There’s no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing. When it’s -40 and the sides of your driveway are like The Wall in Game of Thrones (bust out your inner Ygritte) you must learn the appropriate way to layer your clothing. Learn about/wear base layers that trap in your body heat and wick moisture. Dampness can make the cold feel many times worse if you are wearing anything that soaks up moisture without expelling it. If you can, invest in a pair of good winter boots. and socks. Tuck your pant bottoms into your socks before putting your boots on so no air or moisture can get to the skin of your ankles. Mittens are a better option because they keep your fingers together to provide heat. I have found that locally made mittens that are a blend of wool/cashmere to be the best at half the cost of store bought mittens. Remember to protect your ears and head as well! If you’re going to be outside for more than 20 minutes a snood is perfect to tuck the bottom half of your face into to breathe into it to create moisture. If you’re prone to wind burn I suggest swiping a small amount of Vaseline or something similar onto those areas (usually cheeks) and on your lips for protection.
2.) Update your tires! Not all of us have trucks but 4 wheel drive is a great help. It can be expensive to be ready for Winter but if you live here long-term and have the means to slowly do things, tires are important. It’s a terrible idea to drive on bald tires in general but especially on snowy roads. If you have a smaller, compact vehicle it’s a great idea to add weight in your car to reduce sliding on slippery days on the road. Cat litter or 50lb bags of salt can help add a little traction.
3.) Have emergency items in your vehicle at the height of winter. An extra blanket or two, extra mittens, a small emergency kit, matches or a lighter, “Heet” for your gas tank, keep your gas tank ABOVE half consistently in case you get stuck somewhere. A lot of people keep a large empty tin can and candle in their vehicle in case they get stranded and for some reason you don’t have heat in your car. You can light the candle inside of the can and the can will act as a heat source. Do not keep items that can explode in the extreme cold. It’s not fun.
4.) Stay active! If you dress appropriately, go for walks! Around the block or more if you can. I swear it will reduce your seasonal moods. If you already enjoy partaking in winter sports that’s even better. If you’re living in a Northern state long-term you may as well bite the bullet and embrace it. Staying indoors constantly is what will deplete your happiness and Vitamin D levels. The sun is still out there! It’s even better if your family or friends are interested in doing something active with you. It can be as light or as strenuous as you want so long as you get outside for even 10 minutes.
5.) Eat seasonally. At least where I’m at it’s extremely easy and accessible to get local produce. Most people here have a garden but if not nearly half of the driveways have carts of produce at the entrance. We are also surrounded by Amish who do the same and have some of the best stuff there is. People here are decently sustainable and share produce or grow their own. I know that is not the same for everyone but find out what is local to you and utilize those resources. You will be supporting someone else local instead of a large corporation and getting great produce for a lower cost. Here I can get all root vegetables and squashes for the winter (or we can summer abundance), honey, maple syrup, oats, apples, pears, peaches, etc) Most of our homes have an area usually in the basement or pantry for root vegetables to store throughout the winter.I believe eating seasonally can give you nutrition that’s a little lost during the hardest months of the winter. The food is heartier and more dense than water summer foods for a reason. Incorporate these and some broth into your diet to help you re-load your energy.
6.) Site “How to Hygge” by Signe Johansen for a real play by play on the art of hygge. I bought this book about four years ago and I still go back to it every year. Coziness truly helps when it starts getting dark around 4pm. Light candles (evergreen scents are by far my favorite) and lots of them! Get small fairy lights. If you don’t have a real fireplace invest in a small electric one that will heat a room and create that ambience. Isn’t seeing people chop wood satisfying? I think it’s because it harkens back to when people did it purely out of survival. The scent of wood burning stoves are on my top favorite scents out there. I know it’s hard but try waking earlier in the day to get the most of the daylight that you can. People wake much later than in past generations and miss a decent chunk of their day. In the winter it’s important that your body gets the most daylight it can. Wake early, make your bed, go outside for a minimum of 10 minutes. It’s the easiest recipe for a little happiness.
7.) Crack your windows for 1/2 hour every week to bring in fresh air and the old can be drawn out. Sometimes our allergies worsen because our home is shut up with all of the dust and allergens. Crisp, fresh air for a small time every week can help clear it out.
8.) Speaking of windows...find which windows in your house let the most air seep through and get a plastic window kit to cover them. It can help for comfort ability and your heat bill. Obviously I suggest keeping one uncovered (whichever one doesn’t let air through) to be able to crack it once a week.
9.) Get a bird feeder or if you have one try to keep it stocked consistently! Sometimes seeing birds, especially cardinals and blue jays can improve your mood in the winter. When you unexpectedly catch a pop of red against the blanket of white is a real treat in February. Birds have more food options during the warm months but is harder to come by in the cold. I try to mix my bird seed with dried mealworms or make my own suet with lard and peanut butter because fats and heartier things like mealworms can really aid their lack of abundance in the cold. Plus I get excited when they seem to like my suet!
10.) Do not constantly engage in whining collectively about the weather. Spin the narrative. Whining about it helps no one and there’s a reason why Scandinavians are said to be rated some of the happiest people! They flow with nature including in the winter. You can be active as well as be a hermit. Get up, get dressed, go outside a little before or after work, come home and light your candles. Make a hot toddy with Tom and Jerry mix (nods at Wisconsinites) and get COZY. People are sometimes depressed, anxious and paranoid because there is a difference between earning coziness and just sheer laziness. Sometimes you get down on yourself because you wish you would be doing just the basic every day tasks but don’t. Even just trying to be positive about winter and saying something positive will help you and make others potentially have a different thought.
11.) Share with your neighbors! Winter is the seasons of the holidays and having people with you is a joy. Find a hobby that is something other than sitting on the couch all day on the computer, phone or TV watching. Your favorite TV show is not a personality trait. One of my favorite hobbies is baking. It gets my mind on the right track and I’m not spending hours scrolling through someone else's life. I’ve noticed that in Wisconsin we love fruit based desserts and pastries. It’s probably because at the end of fall we have a surplus of berries, tree fruits and rhubarb from the trees in our yard or garden or we foraged it ourselves in the woods. Apple or rhubarb crisp anyone? Make a crisp or whatever you want and give some to your neighbor or someone you know who may not have a lot of support or are going through a tough time. Instead of spending hours scrolling it can be such an easy way to bless someone else and you feel happy in turn.
12.) Do not over lotion your skin on cheap lotion! I really suggest oils or thick butters like pure shea butter in the winter months. Try not to constantly wash your hands in hot water as tempting as it is for hot water can dry your skin quicker. Bar soap (especially locally homemade) naturally has a higher fat content and can help keep your skin moist rather than liquid soap that has the tendency to strip moisture. Wilder Supply out of Alaska is a great company if you can’t find local.
13.) Buy YAKTRAX. These are seriously awesome for someone who enjoys being outdoors in the winter or if you have an outdoor job orrrrr if you’re just paranoid falling on ice ;) They are really affordable and offer a few different varieties depending on your activity and intent for them.
I could name so many more but for now that’s the top ones the came to mind to jot down!

-- Prompt 01: Questionnaire
(content warning for: disordered eating, maybe substance abuse?)
01. Tell us about your character’s name. Was it given to them or chosen? Does it hold any special meaning? If your character has aliases or nicknames, how did they get them and what do they mean?
Her birth name was largely picked because one of her moms thought it sounded pretty-- it’s not much deeper than that from an in-fiction perspective.
And Uria Grata, the primary alias that she uses, is the name of a girl whose identity she stole... So it was picked for that reason LOL. Her second most used alias, Violet Waxbi, was designed to help her blend in among various different groups while on the job.
Out of fiction, I’m a giant fucking nerd and adapted her birth name from that of a brood parasite (aka bird that puts its eggs in the nests of other birds), and her aliases are both plays on the name of the bird that this specific brood parasite takes advantage of.
Also when she was a kid some of the other gang members called her Songbird (because i said so), and she still occasionally uses it as a call sign or whatever.
02. What is your character’s relationship to their homeworld? Do they hold fond memories of it, or do they hate it? Are they still here, and if not, do they miss it?
i mean............... she’s definitely not still there! kinda sucks when ur planet goes boom but she’s coping ! sort of !! sure wish more of her family and friends had gotten off planet with her !!
So mostly she tries to avoid thinking about Taris. But. There aren’t many positive memories of the planet itself, it was dirty and and oppressive and, later, war torn. Most days she didn’t see the sun, and good food was hard to find at the best of times. Memories of the people there are much more favorable, though, and sometimes she misses that. Sometimes she even misses the smell and everything just because it was so familiar.
Getting off Taris was one of the best things she ever did, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt sometimes.
Getting her family off Taris was just as important, even if it took a lot of convincing-- but with the Exchange taking over, even they could see that things weren’t likely to get better. A good quarter of the Hidden Beks had managed to find refuge elsewhere before the quarantine and Taris’ eventual destruction, Vidu’s family included.
03. Describe your character’s relationship with those who raised them. Was it positive? Negative? Neutral? What sorts of ideologies were they raised with, and do they still stand by them now?
She loves her moms!!! and the other older swoop gang members that helped them raise her! Loves them so much she almost didn’t leave for Coruscant when she got the chance but they weren’t gonna stand for that... It was a very tearful mushy goodbye.
Growing up, there was a lot of emphasis on loyalty and working for the good of the group, and she still carries that with her, though she’s expanded her gang to include the whole of the Republic at this point. Just one huge family. Also, a healthy dose of distrust for strangers.
04. What is your character’s relationship with the Force? Is your character Force-sensitive? Whether or not they are, do they believe in it? Do they lean more towards the dark or the light or are they somewhere in between?
I mean maybe if you squint real hard there might be a hint of force around her but like....... Not enough to do anything with. Once in a blue moon she has a gut feeling abt something and it turns out right, but like, it’s probably just intuition? She does believe in it well enough, though-- like, she’s seen a few Jedi at work. They do fancy stuff that seems to support the whole force thing. She doesn’t think about it very much, but she knows it’s out there.
If she had more sensitivity she would rest somewhere in the middle, though. She’s all about shades of gray.
05. What three word would you use to describe your character? What three words would your character use to describe themself? What three words would someone close to them use?
me: determined, resourceful, scattered
vidu: i don’t have time for this (yes she knows that’s more than three words)
del, sis agent: stubborn, protective, hot
06. Describe your character’s aesthetic. Do they tend towards fashion or function? Do they like to accessorize? How does this extend into their own personal spaces, such as their home or their workspace?
god she misses the days when aesthetic didn’t matter as much..... she spent her whole youth running around in whatever fabric she could throw on at the last second.... although occasionally she made the whole gang attend her “fashion shows” but even then, it was mostly her making her brothers and anyone else nearby dress up silly......
now, though, she has to dress up and accessorize properly as a matter of survival. if she doesn’t look the part, who knows what’ll happen? this applies to her apartment, too-- it very much looks the part. although, it and her desk are also Always some level of a total mess. there’s lots of shoving dirty clothes under the bed when someone comes to visit.
07. What are your character’s vices? Guilty pleasures? Bad habits? Weak spots?
in her down time, she’s a real sucker for anything that feels luxurious. vidu almost never takes a day off, but u can bet when she does she spends the whole day in the bath!! u can also bet she spent most of at least one paycheck on super fancy soft sheets, and has more nice alcohol in her apartment than she does food.
she does have the unfortunate habit of substituting drink (alcohol, caf, experimental energy drinks, protein shakes, etc) for food, though, and most days she only eats once because she forgets so easily. she’s just not used to food being that easily accessible!! she probably never will be!! and if she’s not in polite company, chances are high she’ll scarf her food so fast it gives her a stomach ache...
other bad habits: having zero relationships outside of work, and finding dares almost impossible to resist
08. Tell us about your character’s relationship with food. What are their favorites? Do they enjoy cooking? Are they adventurous? Will they eat absolutely anything or are they hard to please?
Oops i guess I talked about it a little in the last question, BUT.... yeah, she’s not great about food. As a kid it wasn’t always easy to come by, and now that it is she doesn’t know what to do with it. How do manage eating schedule?? How do GROCERY SHOP?? ???? ? No. If she doesn’t snag something at work then she’s either not eating or she’s ordering out.
Pretty sure Vidu has never cooked-- that was more her brother’s thing. She’s not like, burn water bad, but.... She does avoid it like the plague. That doesn’t mean she doesn’t occasionally hoard food when she does remember to go shopping, though. There’s a lot of shit in her cabinets that never sees the light of day.
In terms of what she will eat, though.... I mean she’s eaten things a lot grosser than anything you’ll find for sale on Coruscant. She can and will eat bugs off the ground on a dare. Let’s leave it at that.
09. How does your character feel about engaging in relationships—romantic and / or sexual—with others? What is their history like? Do they fall in love easily? Are they constantly in and out of relationships?
Vidu’s never really been in an official relationship yet, and she’s dead set on keeping it that way until her single status stops being a career asset. At the moment, being able to flirt around without worrying about someone getting hurt is too important to risk a relationship.
She will occasionally have a one night stand, though, when she’s not too busy. It’s just nice to indulge in the fantasy, sometimes. She's developed a number of crushes throughout her life, but has yet to follow anything through.
Also it’s kind of a given, in her mind, that she’ll end up sleeping with someone for career favors someday, but it hasn’t come to that yet.
10. What is your character’s pain tolerance like? Can they hold their own in a fight, despite injury? If someone hurts them with the aim of gaining information, how much can they take before they cave?
I mean she certainly doesn’t like pain !!! She’s also incredibly stubborn, though. So it ends up like this: she’ll whine for an hour about a stubbed toe, but she’ll keep working on a sprained ankle without saying anything to anybody (limping pathetically around the office and then straightening up whenever anyone comes into view..... Faster limping when they turn away).
Also if she ever gets tortured, she’s already worked out that she’s going to take as much as seems plausible and then immediately start lying her ass off. Come up with a story and stick to it. Last just long enough that it would seem like she’d broken for real, and then start giving false information out the wazoo. With this method, she hopes to never actually find the limits of her pain tolerance cause she doesn’t know what they are and she doesn’t want to.
11. What is your character’s weapon of choice? Are they more skilled as a melee fighter or do they have more skill with ranged weapons? What’s their fighting style like? What sort of training do they have behind them?
Vidu tries to avoid combat as much as possible-- even when things got bad on Taris she made herself useful by transporting supplies and doing basic first aid, rather than being involved with the fighting too much.
That being said, she also has stupidly good aim. She’s been handling blasters for most of her life, and has spent a lot of time doing target practice, but has more limited practice with moving targets. It’s been more than enough to keep her alive in any combat situations that have come up, regardless.
12. Does your character have any words or catchphrases that they say frequently? Tell us about how they picked them up.
When she took on her new identity, Vidu did a whole overhaul of her vocabulary. There was just too much that was indicative of where she came from-- now that it’s been a few years, she rarely makes slip-ups anymore. Also, given that 90% of her interactions are work related, she’s in customer service voice (and the stock phrases that go with that) like... Most of the time.
13. Tell us about a negative experience your character has had with either the Jedi or the Sith, and how this has affected their standing. Whether currently aligned or unaligned with either faction, if forced to choose, how would they side?
i mean the sith blew up..... her whole planet and a good number of people she considered like family. there’s no coming back from that, she’s gonna be down with sith till she dies. Outside of that, though, she’s pretty forgiving. See: going to work for the republic after they royally fucked up defending her planet. She hasn’t had many experiences with the Jedi outside of bureaucratic nonsense, but she would still pick them over the sith any day.
14. How would your character react to seeing a relative or friend on the opposing side of a battle or mission?
I mean she’d certainly try to avoid fighting them until they had a chance to explain themselves. If it came down to it, her aim is good enough that she can generally fake missing people by inches, if she needed to uphold a cover but still wanted to let them get away.
It would certainly warrant a good talking to later though!!
15. Describe a memory that your character finds embarrassing.
That time her older brother talked her into sneaking out in the middle of the night to try out a swoop bike for the first time. It turned out it was broken and minorly exploded when she turned it on, naturally alerting all adults in the area. Her brother was gone by the time they got to the scene, but Vidu had tripped getting off and was dealing with a busted nose for too long to escape.
It’s mostly embarrassing because she should have known better, her brother was always pulling shit like that.
16. What goals does your character hold for themself and what steps have they taken towards achieving them? How far are they willing to go to reach them? What is their be-all and end-all?
Destroy the Empire. Not really. I mean yes, really, in the moments when she lets herself go really hog wild with the daydreaming, but. She doesn’t imagine that will happen in her lifetime. In the meantime, she’s content to aim for running the Strategic Information Service and getting it really set up to start crippling the Empire’s operations.
Her steps have been pretty good so far, she’s already in a position of some mild authority within the organization, and she’s slowly building a network of powerful people that value her opinion. She’ll get there someday. The ends justify the means, in this case, so...... She probably wouldn’t stoop to murder but even that is a tiny bit questionable depending on who it is.
17. What is the one thing your character would change about their life if they were given the chance? What other lives could they have lived as a result?
Taris not being blown up would be..... nice..... Most of the things she would change are so far outside of her control that it’s not even really worth dreaming about, honestly. If Taris hadn’t been blown up, if the Mandalorian Wars hadn’t fucked them, if Taris hadn’t been a shithole in the first place-- it’s not worth thinking about.
There’s a small, secret part of her that thinks maybe a nice calm life with her family would be okay, living under the radar on Bogden with them, setting up a chill lil smuggling operation. Would be great, even, but honestly even in her daydreams she knows that she would get bored of that really quick. She doesn’t know who she is without some kind of crusade.
18. Living in such a high-conflict time, how does your character feel about doing what they must to survive? Will they hurt or kill others—either directly or indirectly—to protect themself and / or those close to them? If so, do they regret it when all is said and done?
As mentioned previously, she’s a big proponent of the ends justifying the means. If it’s to protect herself or others, she has no qualms about killing or maiming, and she’s done it before. For reasons less vital than defense there would be... Hesitation. She hasn’t been put in a position to find out, yet, whether or not she’d be willing to kill someone who’s not a direct threat in order to guarantee the success of a bigger picture goal. If she did, though, she would be torn up about it for a while.
19. What is the biggest problem your character is currently dealing with?
Vidu’s job is consuming her every waking moment, right now. It’s a good distraction, honestly, from having to think about everything that’s been lost in the fighting. Her biggest problem right at this particular moment is that one of her agents didn’t return from a mission recently, and she hasn’t been able to re-establish contact for a good while, so she probably has to recruit someone knew to re-establish coverage in their sectors.
20. Give us 3+ headcanons of any length or subject matter.
okay here we go again:
1. Agents: Vidu’s first recruit was a smuggler named Del Kos, and her suspiciously well trained travelling companion, Scorpio, though he’s technically not on the payroll. Anyway, Vidu and Del get along really well and it’s actually terrible when they end up on the same planet cause Del inevitably gets Vidu drunk, and Vidu is both a lightweight and a really rowdy drunk, so Scorpio always has to step in and manage things or it ends with Del starting a bar brawl while Vidu goes full wrestling announcer voice and takes bets from her perch atop the bar.
At the moment, Vidu also manages two other official agents, but I want to leave those open for later development so I’m not gonna go too much into them.
2. Bike Skills: Vidu’s actually really good at swoop bike racing but she can’t tell anyone!! It would blow her cover!! But she is, at all times, dying inside that she doesn’t get to flaunt one of her biggest pride points. This only really becomes a problem when she sees someone watching a swoop race and can’t contain it anymore and becomes the most obnoxious sports fan right in their ear.
3. Sexuality: The girl is a big ol’ gay, zero interest in guys, but flirts with them all the time to get what she wants. She can’t help it if they’re easily manipulated!!
bonus. Give us a list of any length telling us why our “fave is problematic.”
is she tho...? i mean.... is she?
jk of course she is:
she stole a whole ass identity and is living a lie she drinks more wine and caffa than she eats food she probably lets her agents get away with more than she should she’s working really hard to get everyone she works for wrapped around her finger doesn’t have any friends outside of work  crosses professional boundaries with the work friends she does have her apartment looks like a whirlwind went through it at all times so does her desk someone save her poor coworkers and the janitor

There plenty of resource material of approaches to entertain yourself when you don't feel like working--checking your personal email, sending text messages, surfing the web, scanning opportunities on your own own favorite job board. The amount time do you spend on non-work activities during the normal workday? Sometimes, nothing really helps, except during it. And one of most desirable ways to "get through it" would be take radical care of yourself right now, a person have need it most. When you are having actually bad day, it may be a good idea to withdraw for regarding time for can. Take a walk in general. Sit outside in the lighting. Take a warm bath. If you're at work, consider going home early or giving yourself a focus aid. Look inside yourself and are involved in the actions that bring comfort. Does it work? I sleep much larger now and awake restored. I do not snore; I do not have any form of sleep sleep apnea! I have used it on three continents and so it travels to me as cabin luggage, although airline security people may have a check out machine as you go through. The Alzheimer's Association helps with Alzheimer's care, support and research. It strives stop the likelihood of dementia by the promotion of brain health. Associated with June 2008, the president and CEO Harry Johns earns an income of $545,566 a time around. If he were a neurologist, even though only earn a salary of about $150,000 to $250,000. Slumber PM Side Effects in order to offer wonder if her earned that salary how additional families struggling with Alzheimer's might be helped. Avoid being too difficult on yourself if you don't meet goal or have a day toward. We all need a break now and also. The important thing would be not take one day's failure, to be a reason give up entirely. Fitness is something you often be doing for the rest of your lives. Just like brushing your teeth, just anyone missed in a day doesn't mean to you stop as well as. In fact, poor sleep has been found to impair flexibility to perform tasks involving memory, learning, and logical reasoning. This might contribute to mistakes or unfulfilled potential at school or using a job also as strained relationships both at home. Even more disturbing, inadequate variety of sleep also been linked a good increased potential for diabetes, bloodstream pressure pressure, weight gain, obesity, heart disease and depression, to name just a few.

People conflate profit with hard work and importance. I’m not saying people don’t understand what those terms mean, but I am saying that they find a connection that simply isn’t there - and they don’t find it on their own, they are led to it by the upper echelons of society in order to keep capitalism and the social classes that they’ve invented intact.
Entertainment industry employees (the select few famous ones, not the lighting staff and the video crew and the sound tech and everyone else in the credits no one really cares about, even Marvel fans - yes, I’m a Marvel fan, I know, you don’t watch until the end for the people, you wait for the bonus content), major league professional athletes (usually the male ones), and CEOS & company founders have something in common: they get high paychecks because businessmen make a lot of profit from the products and events that us in the masses consume. And because they make so much money, people believe that they earned it all. Entertainment industry employees and athletes certainly can work hard. But if you look at work and what people get paid for is as the sheer worth of people’s hours the question remains: what makes one person’s hour worth more than another person’s hour? Why is an actor’s or musician’s or athlete’s hour worth more than a doctor’s or a teacher’s or a firefighter’s? What makes a director’s hour worth more than any other office manager or creative project manager? I’m not saying entertainment industry employees and athletes aren’t working as hard. But the misconception from culture is that the more money you make, the harder you must be working or the more worthwhile the work you’re doing must be. And this is a misconception, it simply doesn’t have any merit. Frankly, they aren’t working harder than someone who works 40+ hours a week and also spends an average of 10 hours just commuting to and from work, outside of a pandemic. Even if you argue that celebrities and athletes should get paid decently because of the way their work takes a toll on their bodies, for one, CEOs and other 1% business people don’t apply here, and secondly, if it was about the risk to people’s bodies we’d be seeing factory workers, first responders, the military, construction workers, security guards, surgeons who perform 30+ hour surgeries or birth doctors who help with 20+ hour labors, people who work with or in areas that have predatory wild animals or toxic chemicals, people whose work leaves them exposed to the elements, etc. all making equivalent money to celebrities and athletes, and that’s not the case. We all know that’s not how it is. Right now during the pandemic our “essential workers” are all putting themselves at risk of semi or permanent damage to their bodies or death because of Corona and everyone knows they’re not getting paid enough for that risk. Celebrities and athletes should make money for their time just like any other employee, but as it stands they make a disproportionate amount of money, and this money pushes them into the top 10%, if not the top 1%. Plus, they don’t pay taxes because they’re rich enough to be exempt, so they don’t pay for the resources they use, whether that’s the roads they drive on, the water they use, the buildings or outdoor locations where they work, etc.
Nobility and the use of noble titles was banned in the US Constitution. Yet, I would argue that celebrities and politicians have become the USA’s nobility and royalty - and the ultra-rich are definitely a part of that as well. Hunger Games got this right - “pay attention to these shiny individuals, not your friends and neighbors and coworkers who don’t have the same privileges and suffer for it”. Most celebrities were born as average as you and me. But when they began making extreme amounts of money and got the fame, they were boosted in a new social class and this social class allows people within it to be treated as though they are above the average citizen. This is also exactly how systems of power take otherwise effective martyrs and twist and manipulate the story so the story either benefits the system or appears to be an isolated incident of individual heroism/bravery/success (Hunger Games got this right too, with the Victors, and Peeta). Some people *appear* to handle their rank gracefully, and others clearly have become twisted by it. But for people in this special class, all publicity is good publicity. It is commonplace for celebrities and politicians to have scandals brought to light and yet receive no real punishment for it. In fact, they make more money, because of all of the interviews they get to do trying to claim either they didn’t do anything wrong or they did and they’re so very sorry get counted as part of their job. The average person who goes to court to do the same thing is far more likely to be saddled with court costs then to get paid to defend themselves. Our cultural norms say that for most people, any public behavior reflects on you and your family and also could be seen by those who are impressionable, so you should be sure to be on your best behavior. But for those who enjoy celebrity AKA American Nobility, even though you would think they would be under even more pressure and scrutiny, they actually are given more grace and forgiveness and allowed to get away with more because there are no consequences for their actions. People like me can complain about what people do, they can have a less comfortable time on social media because of cancel culture, but on the other hand, cancel culture isn’t actually effective and it’s probably naive to think that a celebrity is actually managing their own social media account all by themselves, but unless they stop getting work which means they stop getting paid, they don’t face any real consequences for their actions. Which is the interesting thing about nobility, because in traditional understandings of the nobility, the noble class was supposed to use their money and resources to care for the areas they had been “entrusted” with, including providing protection and law enforcement/governing, providing aid after natural disasters, helping to fund public schools and public hospitals, protecting places of worship, attending to public infrastructure, etc. Sure, today’s celebrities occasionally donate to charities, especially if it can give them good media coverage, like the Ice Bucket Challenge a few years back for ALS, but come on. Jeff Bezos runs his company like it’s 1900. How many celebrities are going into their communities and helping renovate schools and hospitals and community centers, or spending more than a couple thousand on a scholarship here and there, or helping fund more grocery stores and community gardens to fight food deserts, or putting pressure on their friends in politics to put out legislation that actually benefits the people, or putting money towards protecting natural areas, or buying medical supplies and food for their communities after they’re ravished from a natural disaster, or helping to provide affordable housing for the homeless, or paying off student lunch debt to help with child hunger, or any other number of things they could use their resources for? They get the benefits of nobility - the wealth, the status, the renown, the expensive clothes and oversized homes and affordable top-quality medical care and other status symbols - without taking up any of the responsibilities of giving back to the communities that got them there in the first place, namely average citizens. If the average citizen didn’t stan people, didn’t buy in to the celebrity status, they wouldn’t have near the same amount of power that they do.
And all of this is true and will remains this way because it benefits the wealthy class and the nobility. It keeps them in power. Because people accept the justification that this work is more important or this work is worth more, they can continue making amounts of money that are unfathomable to the average person. And thus they can continue to hoard resources like dragons while other people die of starvation or from the elements or because their insulin and medicine is too expensive. And as mentioned earlier, since they are rich enough to get out of paying taxes, they don’t contribute to the infrastructure, leaving that to the people who have less they can even offer let alone what’s actually taken from them. And they benefit off of the average citizen’s work. They wouldn’t be so beautiful without their army of stylists and makeup artists and seamstresses. Their homes wouldn’t be so extravagant without their garbage workers and landscapers and construction workers and renovators. They wouldn’t find it so easy to manage their lives without their nannies and personal assistants and agents and PR teams and housekeepers and personal chefs. Do you honestly think any of these people are getting paid fairly, or even close to what they’re getting? To paraphrase the song Hunger Strike by Temple of the Dog, they’re feeding on the powerless when their cups are already overfilled. And because they’re positioned as more or less the American nobility, they’re seen as better than the average citizen, so how could anyone possibly justify questioning their social standing or their privilege? This is The Way Things Are, so what does it matter? Like most major problems and inequalities in the world, this only works because people are convinced to buy into the fact that some people are just better than other people. And who has the authority to decide that? The people in power. Who are the same people as the people who benefit from and profit off of the American Nobility AKA celebrity. Average citizens never even stood a chance. This is just a situation of that iconic line that goes “I don’t know how to convince you that you should care about other people”. The outcome of this case was decided before it was even brought to trial.
And I know that nothing I say here will make a difference. The capitalist machine will keep turning and no one will think to introduce a bill that would create salary caps or redistribute wealth and no one actually involved with the industry will read this and think “wow, maybe we need to do something about the growing sociocultural and economic gap between us and the rest of society” because being rich and famous gives them the privilege to put themselves above these concerns. If this gets any notes, I’m more likely to get anon hate or upfront disagreements because I implicated their smol sons or their celebrity crush or whatever than anyone who actually thinks I might be onto something. I’m only taking the time to type this out because releasing the thoughts into the void makes me feel better.
TL;DR: Celebrities get disproportionate amounts of admiration from other citizens and money in their paycheck because their work is given more importance because the wealthy class that controls business makes ridiculous amounts of money off of the projects, events, and products they are a part of and so the unequal distribution of wealth and status elevates celebrities into the 1% and the American Nobility so they no longer have consequences for their actions or have to contribute towards their communities in any meaningful way and that is a Problem.
