This is a question for mod! (If it's okay to ask, obviously you don't have to answer) Is Alastor fully aro/ace in your au, or is he on the spectrum? Obviously whatever the answer is, it's okay, I'm mostly asking for curiosity and so I don't end up asking redundant questions in the future. Is he more on the demi side and after years with Vox he'll start to feel some type of romantic affection, or will that never happen? If it does or doesn't, would he be open to romantic or even sexual gestures or is he repulsed by both when directed at him, no matter who it is? Okay, so here's a bit of babble. And spoilers? I guess?

First, never worry about redundancies. It's going to keep happening until I actually take the time to organize a master list of posts tbh XDD

I keep these thing purposefully vague because, well, a lot of these terms are new and they wouldn't have the words for them back then. That said, I do write Vox as bi and Al as aroace, though Al truly believes he is straight and just hasn't found the right girl. He has no reason to believe this other then the environment he's been living in. He doesn't find girls more 'attractive' or anything, he just respects them more because of his mother.

That said, in general, Vox and Al have been....complicated and happy, for a while now. Al has never felt any kind of romantic or sexual attraction to Vox, and he never will. He is totally and completely fine with romantic and, even some, sexual statements directed at him...but only from Vox. Because he trusts Vox to respect his boundaries, especially the ones that go unspoken. He tries very hard to be 'available' for potential suitable girls, but there is always something about their touch that is going to make him uncomfortable. When Vox does it, Al just chalks it up to Vox being Vox, and he kinda really likes the attention. The romantic stuff makes him feel loved, even if he doesn't return the feelings. The more sexualizing stuff makes him feel sexy, wanted, and pretty, even if he doesn't want to actually do anything.

As far as how repulsed he is about physical stuff initiated on him...that's going to be addressed down the further down the grapevine. That's Al testing his own waters and maybe realizing he swam too far.

All that said, Al calls Vox his 'partner' sometimes just to mean 'partner in crime' but, honestly, because he's unsure what else to call him. He'd call him his 'best friend', only he's pretty sure Rosie is his 'best friend' and there is a lot of stuff he would never feel comfortable telling Rosie about, but would be completely fine explaining to Vox. As I've said in the past, they've already tested the limits of their relationship by the time of the main story. Vox is so much more than a just friend to Alastor, but he has no idea what else there is supposed to be! Especially since he really doesn't love him romantically. Nor does he find him particularly attractive. He cares for him, but he's not sure how or in what ways.

Vox is his first real experience learning what love is.

(Vox knows all of this. He doesn't care. He loves Al, and he'll give him anything and everything that Al would feel comfortable getting. He's better at telling what's going on in Al's head than Al himself most of the time.)

TLDR: I write him as aroace, and where he lands on the spectrum of physicality is treading into spoiler territory.

Levy is in a qpr with Jet & Droy. Gajeel ofc becomes a part of it once he joins Fairy Tail. So does Lily

She did feel like she was a bit of an outcast since the girl's and some guys would talk about romance and she didn't understand it. Same as Lucy, Levy enjoyed reading about it, but the love parts just to her, weird and confusing

Jet & Droy helped her figure herself out and finding out she was aromantic made her smile.

Levy had to contain her excitement when Lucy approached her, talking the way she used to about romance. She was happy that she wasn't the only aro girl in the guild.

Gajeel surprisingly was the easiest to tell that she was aromantic. "...I'm aromantic" "Cool" "Wow. That was easy" Natsu on the other hand, was the hardest. He just stood there with a confused look on his face so she had to explain it in a different way. "I prefer friendship over romance, Natsu" "So calling you my best friend is okay?" " Yes you dummy"

♡ yes to everything above. levy adores jet and droy, then gajeel and lily. she gets such a sense of fulfillment and joy when she's with them.

♡ levy wears green on valentine's day. yes, it's a statement, and she'll patiently spend the day explaining aromanticism to anyone who asks. she also binges on discount chocolates with lucy that night as they watch shitty romcom movies. the two can and do coexist.

♡ another qpr/qpp pairing is juvia and lisanna. they're not only close emotionally; lisanna is by nature a physically affectionate person, and juvia is severely touch starved. the only person she could theoretically be comfortable with touching her is gajeel, but he's not one for soft affection (she's been thrown into too many brotherly headlocks over the years.) so when lisanna casually grabs onto juvia's arm when they're out and about, a switch flips in her head. juvia is very touchy with lisanna, and only lisanna. this leads to most of the guild thinking they're dating.

♡ the words "we're just friends" leave a bad taste in lisanna's mouth. juvia wrinkles her nose when she hears people say "oh, so you're not more than friends." both consider each other one of the most important people in their lives. them being friends doesn't somehow diminish that. juvia lets the worry slip when she's shopping with lucy, who brings her to levy. the three have a long and thoughtful discussion, but honestly, it leaves juvia feeling confused. she's never been one for close relationships with anyone, given her childhood, and all these labels make her head hurt. levy and lucy say that's fine, the only person she really needs to make sure is on the same page is lisanna.

♡ lisanna is very much on the same page of "idk what we are but I like where we are." they decide to just... keep doing what they're doing. when there's new developments (juvia gets a nosebleed when she sees lisanna in a swimsuit, to her own horror), they talk it out and set boundaries for what they want and don't want to do (juvia very, very shyly asks if she could give lisanna a kiss on the cheek.)

♡ also, at some point, juvia and lisanna move out of fairy hills and get an apartment together. mira objects to this only on the grounds that she won't be able to prevent them from starting kitchen fires with their baking attempts. she ends up over more often than not, and lisanna feels her chest swell with warmth at seeing her big sister and her best friend get along so well.

♡ also big aro vibes... gray, cana, and loke. the three of them are so chill about everything. the guild suspects they're in a relationship, but then they also see cana going out with lucy and get confused. gray just shrugs and says it's a girls' night. completely unbothered king. besides, he's got a board game score to settle with loke and natsu.

♡ erza, I think, is a big romantic at heart, but the thing is she does that to everyone. she gets a lot of money from s-class jobs, and there's only so much she can spend on herself or new sets of armor. eventually, team natsu starts finding beautiful bouquets of flowers on their doorsteps. someone dares to tell erza that men don't like flowers, and suddenly every man in fairy tail is getting a monthly bouquet of roses.

♡ erza also misses a lot of "romantic" cues. she wouldn't be able to tell if someone was flirting with her if her life depended on it. gray and natsu, the little shits, take full advantage of this to mess with the poor suitor. I also think erza is demi, so she really has to have a strong emotional bond with someone before she considers having sex with them. she likes to take care and be taken care of, so she wants it to be with someone who knows her inside and out.

♡ natsu honestly has huge aspec vibes, mostly because he completely bulldozes over any societal conventions, labels, and definitions. if natsu feels a certain way, he's going to let the person know. if he wants to be cuddly with them and they're okay with it, he will be cuddly. doesn't matter who they are; even laxus gets the occasional natsu cuddle. levy and lucy almost lose their minds because they're so busy having deep discussions about the intricacies of aromanticism, and then natsu comes in like a breath of fresh air because he genuinely does not care. not in a bad way, he loves to listen to lucy's passionate rants (she's cute when she's excited) but. it's just something that never bothered him. personally, I do think out of everyone, he's closest to lucy in the "romantic" sense, but even then, it's just a different type of relationship to him. there's no way in hell he would specifically choose just lucy over everyone else in the guild. they're all his family!

On Alastor's sexuality:

Ok so a thread I NEVER thought I'd have to make, but shit's getting out of hand and I am a little bit annoyed now.

For the longest time, I've defended Alastor ships because I really don't have a problem with random fanart/fics, regular fandom stuff...

But it's getting ridiculous, the latest post I've seen is headcanoning Alastor to be "bi-romantic", ofc getting rly defenssive if someone just says ANYTHING else.

The 'hypersexualization' of his character doesn't lay in him being portrayed in very sexy fanart or fics. It's the fact everyone's using Alastor for claiming their sexuality to be more valid, straight up jumping over his entire character. He is a beautifully written complex morally gray character and ppl only seek to see "wELL wHaT hIS seXuAL pREfErEncE iS", is it really that important???

Even if he's not confirmed aro, he is still asexual and just slamming any other title before ace to make him into your sexuality and then gripping onto it so effin hard is childish.

And you can't even make the argument of his sexuality actually being somewhat important to his character (like how for exemple, Vox being bisexual and having internilized homophobia is important to his actions and relations to others in the show, or how Angel being hypersexual is important part of his story with sex-work industry - I know hypersexuality is not a sexuality, but here too the "sexual" identity/part of a character is valid to include in understanding their psychology, do you see where I'm going?)

In regards to Alastor, nothing of sexual nature is really important to his role in the story. I don't mind anyone having fun and making any type of story they like, I do not think that is 'erasing the rep' because the ace-spectrum in itself is a spectrum and is very different for anyone, and everyone is valid.

What is erasing the rep is just making "headcanons" of his sexuality based on your own to make you feel better that you portray as factual. The reason I always say I don't mind is bcs I say the 'fun' doesn't change the show's flow. But some ppl actually do want that to happen, which is not okay.

You can't make an artist change their oc to fit your own standards. At that point, you're self-inserting.

Ppl are being as disrespectful to even harrass the VA into making a statement to explain to y'all that it ain't happening nothing will be canon and chill tf out. And then they still make the "ok no sex scene but there will be romance we have 2 more seasons to go!"

Did everyone forget Vivzie confirming Alastor will be single throughout the series after pilot or???

Not everything needs to have romance and sex in it..I understand these are important factors for ppl in general which is why I encourage everyone to make their own story, that way you have full freedom of expression to say it the way you want it to be. But expecting the show itself to change into your secific place on the ace-spectrum is just very distastefull.

Not to mention this is done only for the characters with no precisely defined sexualities, but mostly Alastor. Imagine someone going "you can't tell me Angel isn't bisexual. Look at the way he looks at Vaggie in this screenshot!" everyone would loose their shit. But for Lucifer, who is still unclearly straight/pan/bi or Alastor who is ace, ppl go "OMG AN EMPTY SPACE! OPPORTUNITY TO SELF-INSERT!" Stop. Again, how is this important to the story..

No shade to any RadioApple, RadioDust, StaticRadio, whateverRadio shippers. I myself find some of the fanart cute and I understand. But please don't try to force the idea of a non-canon dynamic you like onto every ace person irl and the show itself. That is very stupid. Make a fanfic, enjoy the show. Friends were forced to betray each other. People got brainwashed, leading to severe PTSD and becoming a shutin for awhile. One guy literally got his head cut off and his brain put into a robot. It was fucking amazing.

I've been talking with my partner about Jake (homestuck jake) today and I wanted to ask you about your opinions on Jake and his relationship to romance. For normal reasons.

SO. JAKE ENGLISH. Speaking as an aromantic person, Jake is so clearly aromantic coded, especially in Pesterquest (which is dubiously canon ofc but the PQ writers weren't pulling from nothing with his characterization, it has solid ground in canon). Jake, throughout most of the Alpha Kids' time fumbling to get into the game, was stuck in this weird love triangle with Jane and Dirk. And the thing is, he's not stupid. He likes to pretend he is, sure, because it absolves him of some responsibility (lowkey can relate, especially when it comes to romantic situations), but he's not. He's not dumb. He picks up on Jane's romantic feelings multiple times and even asks her if she likes him that way more than once. He KNOWS. But it's an awkward situation, so Jane makes excuses and tells him "no, it's not like that, I promise!" and like. Again, he's not stupid. He brushes off the question immediately like he's just pretending to believe her. He's a major people pleaser. He doesn't want to disappoint anyone, so he pretends that it's all fine so he can feign ignorance when someone does end up disappointed.

A lot of people who don't understand Jake's character think that naivety is his biggest character flaw, but it's not!!! He's not naive at all! His biggest character flaw is his selfishness. He pretends to be a clueless moron so that he doesn't have to take responsibility when Jane lies and says she doesn't like him that way, or when he ghosts Dirk, or when he asks Jane for relationship advice on her birthday. He wants to make things work with everyone, he wants to be a good partner to whoever it is that he ends up with, but he doesn't want to be responsible for any of the potential fallout. He doesn't want to turn anyone down, so he pretends to be oblivious to everyone's advances so that he doesn't have to be responsible for anyone's feelings until they explicitly confess their feelings to him. He doesn't romantically like any of them I think, he just took whoever confessed to him first.

And honestly?? Dude that was me with my first relationship in college before I realized I was aro. I knew where our relationship was going before it happened, but I pretended I didn't so we could just stay friends and keep playfully teasing each other. -Not forcing others into the label of friendship (Lots of ppl irl and in fiction sort of just decide 'oh we're friends' without asking the other person which you rlly don't see ppl do w romantic, qpr, or sexual relationships much)

-People who say they don't want friendship actually being respected instead of seen as sad and lonely

-People having relationships of other kinds, hobbies, interests, etc. rather than always having friends or wanting friends

-Acquaintanceships or less close friendships that aren't treated as inherently lesser or as something that will inevitably turn into friendship

-Aspec orientations like aro and ace not being talked about solely as 'still wanting friends/being satisfied w friendship'

-Characters who explicitly id as aplatonic, aplspec, plato averse, plato favorable, nonfriending, etc.

-Plato repulsion being respected and it being understood when someone says they don't want to be around or hear about friendship/platonicism

-Having Aplatonicism, having no friends, and/or being nonfriending seen as valid things instead of being seen as inherently due to 'being a bad person' or depression, etc.

-Respecting when someone's neurodivergence and/or mental illness interacts w their aplatonicism and/or difficulties with friendship, and any boundaries or communication needs that result

-While saying one can also do x thing (cuddling, saying I love you, etc.) With friends people should also acknowledge that its okay to not want to engage in those things and that consent still applies here as it does w romantic, sexual, nonrose, etc.

-One major thing is I'd like to see stories stop defaulting to platonic love as the saviour if romantic love isn't the major theme of the plot. Its platonormative to imply that all a character needed was friendship all along and that its a quick fix for their issues by default. This is especially troubling when done to a character who expresses repulsion or disinterest in friendship and most ppl don't recognise this as negative but do sometimes seem to recognise its bad when done abt sexual or romantic attraction/relationships.

-Not villifying ppl or characters for not wanting friendship or not prioritising friendship. Most ppl seem to know it's creepy to push someone to be in romantic or sexual situations but seem to think its okay to just 'try harder' to make someone your friend which is an issue.

-Storylines about it being healing for an apl, nonfriending person, or just someone for whom friendship or a particular friendship was not healthy to engage in, to step away from friendship, end a friendship, or choose to not have friendships

And there are probably others as well, anyone(especially other apls, plato averse and/or nonfriending ppl) else can feel free to add on to this if they wish(but not in ways that are exclusionary of apls or platonormative ofc)

Hi! I just discovered your blog. I also just discovered I’m probably aspec. Specifically, I think I’m pretty strongly aromantic, which is right now not something I’m super excited about. Kind of in the grieving process of knowing that it’ll take a miracle for me to be comfortable in a romantic relationship, and not sure if it’s a trauma thing (I was in a relationship that kind of sucked a lot of life out of me in hindsight and idk how much that factors in) I need to work out or if I’ve just always been like this and I need to accept it. I sort of relate to this sentiment to an extent! There are many aspec folks who have voiced similar thoughts as well, and it's always difficult to come to a place of acceptance, especially for ourselves

Mostly my grieving comes from a fear of loneliness for not wanting a traditional romantic relationship. I had tried to date a few people as well with no luck, both relationships ended up being bad for me too. I don't think that trauma factors in for me personally, but has created frustration and deterred me from pursuing other relationships.

Whether it is partially caused by past trauma or not, I want to emphasize your identity is still valid regardless

However, when it comes to romantic relationships I want to offer a bit of advice my therapist mentioned which was, "have you ever been in a close relationship with an aro person?" To which the response was a resounding no from myself. I have no idea what a close relationship would be like with another aro person because I haven't tried it!

If a romantic relationship is something you still desire, this is something to consider! As much as it is a clique and grinds the ears of our community, perhaps you haven't found someone you really can vibe with?

There are aro folks out there who do want romantic relationships despite not feeling attraction etc,. Identity is complex and it's understandable to feel confused or resentful

On the flip side, if you want to give up on the endeavour, there are many avenues you have yet to explore!

For me personally, finding acceptance has meant becoming more involved with my local community! Sometimes I go to knitting nights or volunteer. Whatever it is, I feel comfortable with my identity because I have created a network of relationships in my community.

I understand that not everyone finds this ideal. You could instead find a QPR relationship, which is defined within your own standards (and your partners).

Another option would be to adopt an animal, as I have found caring for another (if you're in the position) helps foster meaning in ones life

This doesn't sum up everything ofc, and there are plenty of things to consider. Mostly, I want to emphasize to you that you will reach a point of acceptance for yourself. It's important to grieve, but equally so to explore outside what you can see in front of you

Unfortunately, because the world is built around systems which confine our ideals of what community, relationships, and our own lives can look like, so, we have to build from the ground up. However, this is equally a blessing as there is so much potential to form meaningful relationships with others and ourselves that exist outside the norm

Not to throw in Marie Kondo here, but she has this bit where she asks others to imagine what kind of life they want in their homes. It may be useful to apply this to your life as well and think about what you want

Have faith friend, it's alright to feel the way you do. You're feelings are valid because you have them! If anyone else has advice or resources they would like to share, feel free to send them!

I hope this is helpful! I know it's difficult, but have an open mind and consider your options. You will reach a point where you feel okay with your identity!

There was one post that explained and elaborated really well on why they'd make a good pair and it was good! But Belos hates witches. Regardless of how much they may have a good connection with him. But now, if we ignore that part.. Honestly I really have a hard time imagining Belos in any romance? Also Ironically despite being an actual White cracker™ who probably comes from the age that sees homosexuality as a mental illness, I cannot see him liking women lmao. Take this lightheartedly please. But in more seriousness, to me, Belos as a character truly shines in other relationship dynamics. Familial, authorial, antagonistic and so on. Jayce x Vic vs Jayce x Mel - okay so. I think I've touched upon this briefly when I mentioned my aro(spec) hcs, and Mel was on it. I don't wanna say I dislike Mel and Jayce's relationship but it's really bland fr. It's painfully obvious how this is just "Man like woman, obviously!". Like Idk if it was just me but right up until they boned i was 90% convinced she'd turn out to be a twist villain or stab him in the back or just, like have some. Suspicious things going on. Her interest and interactions with Jayce were not romantic at all imo, if anything I'd probably have to say it just seemed like pure lust. Which, good for them I guess, that's valid too. But you get what I mean?? There were no sparks. They sure had A dynamic, but not a romantically coded one. To me at least.

With that said I'm not gonna protest the fact that they're together, even though I'm just facepalming at it. I'll just let it exist since clearly that's how they wanna tell this story and apparently one gay couple is their maximum quota for this show (looks at Vi and Cait). However, Jayce and Viktor have an infinitely more interesting dynamic and a much more genuine feeling relationship. They actually seem to have a connection and care for each other as people, to an extent I don't see with Mel. To me it felt like she was more interested in Jayce for his inventions. I honestly do with it woulda been Jayce and Viktor, and not just bc "Gay uwu" but genuinely bc it would be very engaging to explore their relationship develop. Ofc, relationships don't need to be romantic to be engaging. But just, with Jayce being a poster boy of the upper class and Viktor rising up from the dumps, it would create interesting conflict for them! Explore that please! It was so cool seeing them work together bc they play off of each other so well! And they were given actual bonding moments!!!!

I'll just say. They both exist to me, in my heart. The way I see it, Jayce and Mel are queerplatonic and Viktor has Feelings™ for Jayce, who is probably a little suppressed about his own feelings for him. Ofc it does clearly seem that he cares for Mel as well. I don't feel annoyed enough to gloss over that. But to me this is how it works and I'll be fine if they explore Viktor and Jayce's relationship in a meaningful way later on.
