So I watched the first 2 eps of Blood Free last night and I’m…underwhelmed.

I love the cast. I was intrigued by the premise. But by the end of ep 2 I was like girl yikes.

Hyojoo is one of the most bland actors I’ve ever seen. I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt that it’s the writing right now. Her character doesn’t feel entirely fleshed out, especially in comparison to Jihoon’s. But even Jihoon was pretty dull. The two characters are equally stoic and mysterious and very serious but together on screen it’s just so….boring. And if someone talks about how much *chemistry* those two cardboard cutouts have together one more time I’m gonna scream.

I’m going to try rewatching it tonight. I’m hoping that maybe I’ll feel differently. Maybe my mood was off yesterday I don’t know. But I was so looking forward to this series based on the cast alone, I’d be so upset if it let me down like this.

Speaking of the cast.

The big reveal of my man Choi Youngjoon had me SCREAMING at the tv. I will at least stick around for him.

okay heres the thing. I genuinely don't understand where people are getting that the diamonds were redeemed?

Because, in the show, they pretty clearly were not.

By the end of the original show, they were neutralized. They were no longer a threat, but an asset. They realized they were wrong and had to stop.

By the movie, they were doing good things mostly to cling to the last bit of power that they had. And a bit because they did feel bad.

By Future they were doing better, but still learning. They felt bad and were starting the long process of righting their many wrongs. Still not redeemed by a long shot, but they were finally on the right path.

That was pretty clear to me while watching the show. I never thought the diamond's got a redemption arc. Or that they suddenly became good. Steven just did what he always does and neutralized the threat. I am sure that if White Diamond had instead doubled down on her beliefs, he would have actually defeated her somehow (we saw that many times in the show, the clearest examples being Eyeball and Bismuth).

There were plenty of things in the show that went over my head. I just think that one was pretty obvious, so I legitimately cannot understand why people think otherwise.

If I had to guess, it's because of the other characters in the show that DO get redeemed, and whose arcs fully play out. But even then, you can compare the diamond arc to the arc of literally any other character and see that it is incomplete.

As someone who’s living with a middle school social studies teacher, all the posts along the lines of “why did we never learn about this historical event in school” just make me go “because your teacher was supposed to cover all of US history in one year, and they didn’t get to the Revolutionary War until Halloween because they were urged to slow down the progression of the lessons because a more senior teacher was running behind, and they didn’t get to the Civil War until Valentine’s Day because the school kept scheduling every special event during social studies because there’s no end-of-grade testing for that subject, and they didn’t get to WWI until May because they were sick for a few days and the substitute couldn’t do much more than babysit, and now they’re having to do the entire Cold War in two days, so that’s why you didn’t hear about the lesbian inventor of the circus peanut. They would have loved to tell you about the lesbian inventor of the circus peanut!”

The JL wants to create a new team, and Bruce brings all of them to the watchtower, and they freak the JL and their partners out.

Batman: "These are my children"

Dick: *Glares at them*

Tim: *giggles like a menace*

S/b: "Holy shit, is that. Holy Duke?!"

Cass and Steph: *don't care* *want to go home*

Batman: "Aren't they precious?"

(The reason they go is because Bruce took them in when they had nothing or were lost. They love him so much and will do everything for him)

(BTW, it's just an AU idea. There is nothing to be taken seriously. Duke, being either a cult leader or being worshipped, is far from Canon, like Stephanie taking over her father's "business".)

Witness Protection

There’s a dead guy in the alley and it’s not Danny. 

Ok, technically there are two dead guys in the alley but honestly, Danny feels like they’re way past semantics.

Because, once again, there is a dead man in the alley. 

Danny is fairly sure the guy’s been murdered. The bloody mess that is the guy's chest is a pretty good indicator, but the bloody knife that's still stuck in the guy’s guts is really what makes it for the teen.

Danny might be freaking out a little bit. Because, while he is used to dead people, they’re never this newly deceased, or for that matter, this gruesomely murdered.

Before his breath can quicken too much, Danny makes himself take a deep breath. 

Say what you want about Danny, but he hasn’t spent his high-school career moonlighting as a teenage vigilante without learning a thing or two about staving off a panic attack. Feeling more calm, Danny focuses back on the issue at hand.

I should call the police, says something in the back of his head that sounds like Jazz.

If I call in the murder I’ll be on the suspect list, retorts some other part of his brain he’s choosing to call the Sam part.

No advice from an imaginary Tuck though. Even in his own mind he can’t imagine a Tucker that hasn’t already passed out cold at the sight of a dead guy. 

Which, fair. Danny is kinda considering the option, as he’s feeling a little faint himself. It is way past time he got out of here. At least he's figured out just how to do it.

Boy is he glad he doesn’t have to be involved anymore.

A few streets over, a hooded figure rounds a corner, their breath coming fast  as they clench their bloody fists agitadely. There wasn’t supposed to be anyone there, and yet. This is an unexpected setback.

The hooded figure leans back against the alley wall to catch their breath. Nothing to do about it but fix it. And as these things go, this is an easy mistake to fix. The face of the black-haired blue-eyed hurdle floats to the front of their mind. 

It should be child’s play.
