According to Elizabeth Cady Stanton, the moral to be drawn from women’s (i.e., white women’s) Civil War experiences was that women should never “labor to second man’s endeavors and exalt his sex above her own.”
There was a strong element of political naïvete in Stanton’s analysis of the conditions prevailing at the war’s end, which meant that she was more vulnerable than ever to racist ideology. As soon as the Union Army triumphed over their Confederate opponents, she and her co-workers insisted that the Republican party reward them for their wartime efforts. The reward they demanded was woman suffrage—as if a deal had been made; as if women’s rights proponents had fought for the defeat of slavery with the understanding that their prize would be the vote.
Of course the Republicans did not lend their support to woman suffrage after the Union victory was won. But it was not so much because they were men, it was rather because, as politicians, they were beholden to the dominant economic interests of the period. Insofar as the military contest between the North and the South was a war to overthrow the Southern slaveholding class, it was a war which had been basically conducted in the interests of the Northern bourgeoisie, i.e., the young and enthusiastic industrial capitalists who found their political voice in the Republican party. The Northern capitalists sought economic control over the entire nation. Their struggle against the Southern slaveocracy did not therefore mean that they supported the liberation of Black men or women as human beings.
(…) Granted, the [Fourteenth and Fifteenth] Amendments excluded women from the new process of enfranchisement and were thus interpreted by them as detrimental to their political aims. Granted, they felt they had as powerful a case for suffrage as Black men. Yet in articulating their opposition with arguments invoking the privileges of white supremacy, they revealed how defenseless they remained—even after years of involvement in progressive causes—to the pernicious ideological influence of racism.

To every terf, bigot, etc coming across this post
Leave us alone
We are bothering nobody
We are literally just living a life
And you don't even have to agree with us, but at the very least we deserve is human decency
I'm going to put this in the language you want to hear.
You can say "men don't get periods" or "trans women aren't women" all you want, you have the right to talk your views (even if they hurt others), but this doesn't make you immune to conciquence
You can name science, even though biology has proven to us that sex assigned is more than male/female. You can name any religious reason under the fucking sun (once again, not without backlash or consequence)
But all of us regardless of views deserve the basic modicum of respect which is:
The right of autonomy (let us be)
The right to comfort
The right to identify as what we want
The right to access healthcare
The right to be identified accurately
The right to not be targeted by hate
How would you feel if we did the same to you? If we removed your right to religion, to healthcare, to protection just because you are who you are, would you be just as patient?
Because im losing my fucking patience. Its gotten so bad thst I've considered detransitioning because of how volatile people are towards the topic. I've been labeled woke, mentally insane, dillusional and a groomer by the right leaning side of everything. These are words I see too often. I'm just living comfortably or at least trying to.
And to all those saying, even if it was a choice to change gender, SO FUCKING WHAT? Why does that mean I should be shunned for feeling differently than someone else?
To the trans allies and trans people who see this:
Keep this going. Add your thoughts, say your bit, or simply just reblog. Let the love outweigh the hate. Every reblog shows that a trans life is deserving of equal respect.

dnis are stupid as shit tbh. i've always assumed anyone morally reprehensible enough to be put on a dni for me (e.g. f*scists) will not give a fuck about a dni and if they happen to come on my blog the only sensible approach is to block. every other thing u put in a DNI is less about boundaries than it is about creating an in-group of people (usually people who are anti-something) and signaling to others you're morally pure enough not to interact with x, y, z

anti-lgbt lgbt ppl will always baffle me to no end...
#for reference i'm talking about a comment i saw on my fyp a few mins ago#a republican senator shoulder-checked someone for protesting against an anti-trans bill being passed#the comments were 50/50 between people rightfully showing concern for the protester and bootlickers defending the senator#one of the bootlickers was a transphobic cis gay man#his replies were along the lines of 'we normal gays and lesbians don't want to be associated with y'all' yk things of that nature#and i'm thinking to myself...first of all?#regardless of how much respectability politics you adhere to you'll still be 'othered' by the majority#and ofc he was spreading baseless information about trans ppl#and none of it was grounded in factual evidence#'facts and logic' mfs spreading misinformation? color me shocked#he kept claiming i was 'mad' in my replies#and i was honestly entertained by his ignorance#he even went so far as to comment on some of my tiktoks to continue his fruitless endeavors#but when i opened the app half a minute later the comments and notifs were gone#this shouldn't come as much of a surprise but he blocked me after he claimed i couldn't handle the argument#and before he blocked me he also said some bs like 'i'm waiting for my response'#at this point i couldn't help but laugh#more proof in the pudding that a conservative's online presence solely consists of purposely antagonizing people#this also reminds me of another tiktok i saw a few mins ago calling out lgbt ppl for shitting on other ppl in the community#y'know the pick-mes who brag about how 'normal' they are and shit on the rest of us 'cringe' lgbt ppl#and ofc one of the top comments was a pick-me proving OPs exact point without a lick of self awareness!#if these pick-mes invested the same energy into showing solidarity with their own community for once instead it would be a miracle#anyways i'm doing fine. i'm p chill#in fact i thought this 'argument' was kinda funny#you wanted all that smoke and then blocked me right after?#what's cookin' in hell's kitchen?

While it is problematic to see events based only on our experiences even more the ones related to prejudice I'll admit that England prohibition of the Scottish gender affirmative laws scares me on way more than it's transphobia and opression towards the scotish people. It makes me think that if England isn't afraid of imposing their will on a country that on papper they consider their equal how do they react towards the people and countries they don't. That on my case means would England do an U.S similar move and help stabelish dictatorships on latin america if we did something that they considered against their values or that somehow affected their control? But on a general case it goes to ask about their relationship with India or how the goverment as whole treats imigrantes specially people of color and muslins (mostly muslins of color) and many more questions and fears related to racism and xenophonia.
This situation is of course about transphobia first as England doing all that to stop my fellow trans people from having measures that could drasticslly improve their life is a clear act of hate against us (and I don't know even how to conceptualize it, Brazil is if not the one of the countries with the higher rate of trans people being killed for our gender identity, we have few representation and transitioning while legal is quasi impossible even people who support trans rights outside the comunity are mostly either uninformed or do unintencional casual transphobia (for instance when I still identifield as nb and not trans a dear normally supportive friend wished me happy woman's day), the idea of having this bill is something out of a fairy tale to me and it likely was for older scottish trans people and to finally see this fairy tale becaming reality and by popular vote as well showing that your society is learning and caring only to have it took from you must be the worst feeling ever). I'm not trying to disminish this fact or put trans issues in second place. But there is no fight if we aren't all on it and it's important to understand how systemic those prejudices are. It's important that a trans white person understand what this implies to trans non white people and to cis non white people as well. Just as it is important that cis non white people understand how this impacts the trans comunity. We need to look at all angles and stand together.

every single time i see someone on this webbed site be purposefully obtuse about things, try to stir shit up on a joke post, surround themselves in their hut of little strawmen, and fail so fucking bad to do satire because they're completely out of touch with what the group they're trying to do satire of actually believes, it's a fucking radfem. always always always.
going "isn't this offensive to you liberals? why aren't you offended? isn't this super transmisogynoirablepatriarchomisandrist???" in an attempt to show off the Dumb Libs' Double Standards always falls flat because they don't fucking know what our standards are. all they see are strawmen that their culty ideology regurgitates into their brains. they see caricatures and monoliths instead of actual political ideology because they're convinced they're so correct that anything they believe about the other side must be true, even if it hasn't been accurate since 2014 or hasn't been accurate ever.

So a few months ago there was the discourse about would you rather meet a man or a bear in the woods. I didn't want to touch it while the discourse was hot and everyone dug in hard because those are not good conditions for nuance, but I waited until today, June 1st, for a specific reason.
I'm not going to take a position in the bear vs man debate because I don't think it matters. What is really being asked here is how afraid are you of men? Specifically, unexpected men who are, perhaps, strange.
People have a lot of very real fear of men that comes from a lot of very real places. Back when I was first transitioning in 2015 and 2016, I decided to start presenting as a woman in public even though I did not pass in the slightest.
I live in a red state. I knew other trans women who had been attacked by men, raped by men. I knew I was taking a risk by putting myself out there. I was the only visibly trans person in the area of campus I frequented, and people made sure I never forgot that. Most were harmless enough and the worst I got from them was curious stares. Others were more aggressive, even the occasional threat. I had to avoid public bathrooms, of course, and always be aware of my surroundings.
I know how frightening it is to be alone at night while a pair of men are following behind you and not knowing if they are just going in the same direction or if they want to start something - made all the worse for the constant low level threat I had been living under for over a year by just being visibly trans in a place where many are openly hostile to queer people. You have to remember, this was at the height of the first wave of bathroom law discussions, a lot of people were very angry about trans women in particular. My daily life was terrifying at times. I was never the subject of direct violence, but I knew trans women who had been.
I want you to keep all that in mind.
So man or bear is really the question "how afraid of men are you?", and the question that logically follows is "What if there was a strange man at night in a deserted parking lot?" or "What if you were alone in an elevator with a man?" or "What if you met a strange man in the woman's bathroom?"
My state recently passed an anti trans bathroom bill. The rhetoric they used was about protecting women and children from "strange men", aka trans women.
Conservatives hijack fear for their bigoted agenda.
When I first started presenting as a woman the campus apartment complex was designed for young families. The buildings were in a large square with playgrounds in the center, and there were often children playing. I quickly noticed that when I took my daughter out to play, often several children would immediately stop what they were doing and run back inside. It didn't take me long to confirm that the parents were so afraid of "the strange man who wears skirts" that their children were under strict instructions to literally run away as soon as they saw me.
"How afraid are you of a strange man being near your children?"
I mentioned above that I had to avoid public bathrooms. This was not because of men. It was because of women who were so afraid of random men that they might get violent or call someone like the police to be violent for them if I ever accidentally presented myself in a way that could be interpreted as threatening, when my mere presence could be seen as a threat. If I was in the library studying and I realized that it was just me and one other woman I would get up and leave because she might decide that stranger danger was happening.
Your fear is real. Your fear might even come from lived experiences. None of that prevents the fact that your fear can be violent. Women's fear of men is one of the driving forces of transmisogyny because it is so easy to hijack. And it isn't just trans women. Other trans people experience this, and other queer people too. Racial minorities, homeless people, neurodivergent people, disabled people.
When you uncritically engage with questions like man or bear, when you uncritically validate a culture of reactive fear, you are paving the way for conservatives and bigots to push their agenda. And that is why I waited until pride month. You cannot engage and contribute to the culture of reactive fear without contributing to queerphobia of all varieties. The sensationalist culture of reactive fear is a serious queer issue, and everyone just forgot that for a week as they argued over man or bear. I'm not saying that "man" is the right answer. I am saying that uncritically engaging with such obvious click bait trading on reactive fear is a problem. Everyone fucked up.
It is not a moral failing to experience fear, but it is a moral responsibility to keep a handle on that fear and know how it might harm others.
