Hello everyone!
Today I want to talk about anxiety and little ways to help manage it.
You’re likely here because you are like me, and your anxiety gets the best of you sometimes. Welcome! First off, know that you are not alone. Anxiety plagues many people across the world. But thankfully there are ways to manage it, short-term and long term.
Some great ways to calm down anxiety while right in the midst of it is breathing control. The best method I have found is to breathe in counting to 5 in your head, breathing out counting to 5 in your head, then holding and breathing for 5 more seconds. Repeat as long as you need. You can adjust the time as you feel fits best for you.
Another great way is exercise, like going for a walk in the fresh air, but for some that doesn’t always help. Your mind may have too much time to wonder, but you can always try watching some yoga videos that you can follow along or even some very simple Pilates. Both great for helping you calm down.
Music is another great tool, calming music or even just getting up and dancing around to your favorite song.
Taking a warm bath or shower can also be very calming.
Teas are a great way to help calm, ones like Chamomile, or even some lavender tea by Yogi is a great choice. Many teas have L-Theanine which is a great amino acid that actual promotes relaxation and sleep. And if tea isn’t your thing, you can actually buy it in pill form from your nearest vitamin isle.
Speaking of dietary supplements, 5-HTP is also a great one, it can raise your serotonin levels in your brain. It’s a great mood regulator. BUT WARNING, ALWAYS talk to your Dr. first before taking ANY dietary supplement in case it may interfere with anything you may already be taking. I am not a doctor so always get the opinion of a doctor first.
Now some other great things to do are put on a calm happy movie that you enjoy, or a youtube video that you find comforting. grab your favorite cozy blanket, I find weighted ones to be very beneficial, and curl up and watch.
Other great ways is managing your diet. There are a ton of great foods that can help with anxiety, and an equal amount that can worsen your anxiety.
Skip the sugary treats and overly processed foods, even if they can be comforting, they could be making things worse. Skip the caffeine and opt for herbal teas too.
Great foods for anxiety are turkey, salmon, oats, avocado, blueberries, bananas, brown rice, and if you want something more sweet, dark chocolate is great too. I find 70-85% to be the most tolerable flavor wise.

Don't waste your time worrying about something. You will only end up driving yourself crazy. There is no benefit in worrying about something.

One of the earliest examples of Leo’s “I’ll do my own thing to accomplish our goal without discussing it with my team first” is in episode one. It’s super, super quick, and ultimately inconsequential, but it subtly sets up a great precedent that I think is very interesting.
When the boys need to grab the medallion from Splinter without Splinter noticing, Raph, Mikey, and Donnie huddle together with Raph taking the lead in trying to devise a plan to get the mystic device. Meanwhile, Leo slinks away and grabs the device by clocking the situation (by knowing his father well enough to predict his actions - something he does with each family member multiple times in the series) and making a move on his own.
It works out perfectly fine, and is ultimately the best move, and it’s honestly okay that he didn’t consult everyone for something so small when it’s such a non issue to get it, but it nicely sets up how this tends to go in the series, including how it goes in the movie.
To be honest episode one is actually really good at setting up a lot of things for each character in the long run, this is just one example that caught my attention, as small and unassuming as it is.

i feel passionately about the need to enfold people experiencing (or diagnosed) with "just" depression or anxiety into the mad pride project. the more people who view themselves as mad, the better. much as the rhetorical move from "neurotypical" to "neuroconforming" emphasizes the artifice & social construction of "neurotypicality," so too will expanding identification as "mad" expose the sane/mad dichotomy as a false one.
it's true that (some) people with "just" depression and/or anxiety have an easier time navigating the psych system than people who have more stigmatized diagnoses. but this is not to say that they necessarily have an easy time — the carceral psych system is hostile to everyone subsumed by it, even the most "privileged" patients. we should of course critique & examine how our experiences are shaped by various intersections of privilege, but we cannot forget or ignore how someone with "just" a depression/anxiety diagnosis can still experience the full force of the carceral psych system brought down upon them (including but not limited to involuntary institutionalization, police intervention, & forced medication or other forced treatment).
we must encourage, if not insist, that those with the least-stigmatized diagnoses view their difficult experiences navigating the psych system as bound up with the liberation of people who have more stigmatized diagnoses &, often, a more violent experience of the psych system. we need more people to drop the "i have anxiety/depression but i'm not crazy" line and say loudly, "i have anxiety/depression & i am crazy. my access to just treatment is linked to the conditions of all other crazy people, who are my allies, peers, & friends. we are united in our cause & we all deserve a more liberating system of care."

Welcome to the blog of positivity. Where we also enjoy a calming cup of tea. Life can be filled with so much stress and triggers for anxiety, but not everywhere has to be. Personally sometimes I find when my anxiety is high, places like Facebook, TikTok, even Twitter can be major triggers for me. From posts, to comments to even very finely tuned algorithms that just seem to tweak you in the worst ways.
Well that's why I am and have created this little zone. This is a zone of safety and serenity. A place to call home when our/your anxiety is too high. Here I will share posts that are cozy and warm and even sometimes fuzzy.(because let's be honest, baby animals are so cute.)
This will be a home of safe talk for anyone who needs it, a place where I will share calming techniques and activities. I can even leave a link to some of my favorite calming things in the future.
So grab a cup of tea,:because tea has a lot of health benefits even can help anxiety, grab your favorite blanket and cozy up.💕
Welcome everyone.
