Just thinking abt how the queerness in this specific group is just such a normal thing for them. Like, yeah, Ace doesn’t like girls like that. Yeah, Pony and Johnny are closer than friends. Yeah, Darrel never looked at a girl the way he used to look at Paul. It’s just so normal for them. None of them quite say it, it’s just, there. But it’s not weird to joke like that. It ain’t weird for Ace to talk about this guy he saw at the drive in. It ain’t weird for Pony and Johnny to curl up together and hold each other in ways normal best friends don’t. It’s weird for Steve to never mention anyone at all. It’s not even too shocking when Soda slips a guy in with all the pretty girls he mentions. It’s just who they are. And they know they can’t go around and blast it to everyone they know. But there, with their family, the people who are “weird�� and “wrong” in the same ways they are, all of em know it’s okay.

I was gonna initially just leave this as a reply but I'll probably exceed the word limit, but I like this question! This is a good question :]

Honestly with it being this early on in Batman's career, and with Nightingale being the designated emergency support, I can pretty confidently say that Danny's relationship with the other Rogues ranges from neutral to dislike, and vice versa. Just by virtue of it being really early on in all of their careers and thus Rogues like Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn and stuff, haven't had the character development to otherwise be someone worth, eh, well, liking.

Nightingale's role as 'emergency only' means that he's really not seen that often. Bruce is a pretty master escape artist so for him to get in a situation that requires Danny to feel like he needs to step in is rare.

I haven't gotten Nightingale's persona completely set in stone yet, I'm still bouncing around with ideas, but the current gist I've got for him is that he's honestly pretty quiet. He's not there to engage in a fight or banter, he physically can't; he's there to aid the Batman and that usually means subterfuge, sabotage, psychological tricks, to just straight up shooting people with tranq darts depending on his mood that day.

The Nightingale posts I have here are hyperbolic and a bit exaggerated for my own amusement and entertainment, albeit still reflective of what I'm thinking of for the fic. The post this comment came from is a special case in that it was a joke idea I came up with and felt like sharing. It might show up in fic, just in a different format.

With that being said, from the POV of the Rogues, it means that the Batman has this protective little shadow that will pop up at random and either enact psychological warfare on them (distract them long enough for Batman to free himself), break their stuff (make it easier for Batman to free himself), or straight up shoot them with a tranquilizer, and you never really know which it will be until it's happening. Sometimes its all three.

Sometimes its neither of them; sometimes its him freeing Batman without ever making his presence known. One moment the Bat was trapped, the next he's not.

I don't think they even learn what his name is for a while either. He's probably just called smth like 'the Shadow' until people find out his name is Nightingale.

Safe to say though, the Rogues don't like Batman's little shadow that much, and even if he doesn't show up, he invokes this unwilling paranoia in a lot of them whenever they have him trapped. Besides, he's associated with Batman, the guy who keeps trying to stop them, that makes Nightingale a hated figure on principle.

As for Danny's opinion on the Rogues, I don't think there's any of them that he necessarily likes. Sympathizes with, sure, but not like. Folks like Mr. Freeze and Poison Ivy and Babydoll fall under his 'cool motive, still murder' banner, where yeah he gets where they're coming from, but that doesn't excuse the harm they're doing. While folks like Black Mask, the Penguin, or Joker, fall under his 'what an asshole' banner, where he doesn't like them just for the obvious reasons of they're hurting people for power.

He probably likes Catwoman honestly, but her main profession is also thief not murderer so she has that going for her.

I don't think he'd have any special opinions on the other ghost characters. They're ghosts; water is wet, fork found in kitchen.

But yeah, as of the timeline right now Danny's opinion on the Rogues and vice versa are what you'd expect. He's not in the field often enough to form a relationship with any of them beyond the normal one, and considering his schtick is "you made Batman need my help" he's not particularly inclined on changing it. Child ghosts can be so protective yk, especially clingy little traumatized ones with separation anxiety.

There's mutual respect for sure just by virtue of time but #they're not friends. Danny's fights in WTNS were vicious and painful because the people coming through the portal weren't *good* people.#they're not people he wants to associate with and i can't see him getting along w/ them anyways just coz their morals are so different #i didnt mention harley bc i think that's a bit of a slippery slope and it falls under the 'later down the road' line where i think danny #might get along with her later on after she goes through her breakup with the Joker and has that anti hero arc. bc yeah she was manipulated #she still murdered people. people are dead because of her. he's more focused on her actions than her mindset because that's what important #in the end. same thing for poison ivy and everyone else. at the end of the day its their actions that speak louder than words.#and he's learned to watch the way people move their hands than the way they move their mouths.

Ok, I think I have a pretty good idea of why a lot of Akechi's dialogue is... like that.

So, even before his confidant truly started, I noticed that he has a real knack for directing the flow of a conversation. This is very fitting for someone who is both a detective and skilled at interviews - when there is a topic and a goal, Akechi is in his element.

All this to say, he's actually kind of controlling when it comes to conversational flow. He probes for information, or turns the conversation around to a particular topic, usually the Phantom Thieves. He manages to take a few of Joker's dialogue options and spin them so they sound mildly incriminating in the context he's placed them in - the only way to truly get around this is to pick answers that feign indifference, and even then, that's more than a bit telling. He's clearly very good at this kind of thing.

But then, we get conversations where either Joker does something he didn't expect, or else he doesn't have a particular goal in mind - and the conversation stutters. In the first instance, Joker does something (a particularly egregious example is putting his glasses on him and fluffing his hair in rank 3) which both leaves him wrong-footed and no longer in perfect control of the situation. He just kind of... freezes, for awhile. It's hilarious. He has no idea how to respond.

He picks up control again in the phone call afterwards, having chosen to play into it, turning this "fooling the crowds" into a kind of game or secret between them. Nice save.

But in instances where there isn't an obvious topic and the goal is somewhat nebulous, for instance, that one Leblanc scene, it becomes pretty apparent that Akechi doesn't have the right "script" to go off of. Again, it's particularly notable in that scene, because I'm fairly sure he didn't have any specific reason to be at Leblanc, other than him looking for a quiet spot now that public opinion has turned on him. And because there isn't anything specific he's digging for, he kind of just ends up throwing things at the wall to see what will stick. Probing for any kind of recognizable reaction that he can jump on and work with, and that just doesn't really happen in this scene.

He references Sae, a woman in a respectable position, to Sojiro, but instead of that netting a welcome, it earns his ire, given Sae's recent actions against him. He then tries to greet Joker, his... rival? friend? enemy? person who at least seems to somewhat enjoy spending time with him? But Joker's responses are somewhat short, and Akechi practically wilts. He tries to commiserate by oversharing. He tries to involve Futaba and reaches out for the only topic of interest he can think of around "young people". He compliments the coffee. He compliments Joker. He tries to invoke that connection between them. None of it is really sticking, nor does it serve as a jumping off point for him to steer the conversation, or even really start one.

So, he basically just ends up having a one-sided chat with himself and then leaves. Hilarious. Also a little sad, if I'm being honest. It's really giving "guy with no friends who only knows how to speak to adults" energy. If there's no specific purpose to the exchange, or he is not in control of its direction, he seems to be kind of out of his depth. He succeeds only in being a little awkward and confusing, more than anything.
