Shiny Thire: Commander, can the Chancellor sign this bill.
Fox, shaking his head: Listen shiny, you'll have to learn to forge that musty meat bag's signature. If you sign it from the start, you'll be able to sign whatever you want, and those bureaucrats we'll never know. Too busy kissing ass to give a flying kriff.
Shiny Thire pulls out a pen: Like so?
Fox: You'll make a fine guard on this polished turd

Queer Fiction Free-for-All Book Bracket Tournament: Round 6
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Book summaries and submitted endorsements below:
The Murderbot Diaries series (All Systems Red, Artificial Condition, Rogue Protocol, Exit Strategy, Network Effect, Fugitive Telemetry, System Collapse, and other stories) by Martha Wells
Endorsement from submitter: "My favorite sci-fi spacefuture world where being queer + polyam is normal and yet the protag is still queer in its own special way <3"
"As a heartless killing machine, I was a complete failure."
In a corporate-dominated space-faring future, planetary missions must be approved and supplied by the Company. For their own safety, exploratory teams are accompanied by Company-supplied security androids. But in a society where contracts are awarded to the lowest bidder, safety isn’t a primary concern.
On a distant planet, a team of scientists is conducting surface tests, shadowed by their Company-supplied ‘droid—a self-aware SecUnit that has hacked its own governor module and refers to itself (though never out loud) as “Murderbot.” Scornful of humans, Murderbot wants is to be left alone long enough to figure out who it is, but when a neighboring mission goes dark, it's up to the scientists and Murderbot to get to the truth.

Monstrous Regiment (Discworld) by Terry Pratchett
It begun as a sudden strange fancy . . .
Polly Perks had to become a boy in a hurry. Cutting off her hair and wearing trousers was easy. Learning to fart and belch in public and walk like an ape took more time . . .
And now she's enlisted in the army, and searching for her lost brother.
But there's a war on. There's always a war on. And Polly and her fellow recruits are suddenly in the thick of it, without any training, and the enemy is hunting them.
All they have on their side is the most artful sergeant in the army and a vampire with a lust for coffee. Well . . . they have the Secret. And as they take the war to the heart of the enemy, they have to use all the resources of . . . the Monstrous Regiment.

Headcanon: Who will be ready to kill for you? From most willing to least... (Pedro Pascal characters) 🔪💀☠️🩸
Tumblr media
1. Oberyn Martell
There is no doubt here. He will kill for you without hesitation.
He has a hot temper, he is used to killing, he is highly trained, and... madly in love with you. You are his Queen.
If someone insults you, looks at you wrong, or hurts you, Oberyn will not hesitate to spear him or challenge him to a duel (and spear him.)
Be sure, he will make a show of killing for you. He will proudly show off his skills, and if the victim is unlucky, he will even torture them.
Oberyn really won't have any doubts. This is the world he lives in. He is a prince and is not afraid of consequences. For you, he will always be able to kill an entire army of people.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2. Jack Daniels (I wasn't sure here but my sweet @creedslove helped me)
Jack will do anything for his Sugar. If your safety or good honor is at stake, he will not hesitate to kill.
Let's be honest, Jack has no remorse about this. If someone threatens, hurts, or insults you, they are bad. And bad people deserve to die. Easy.
Good manners dictate that he must take care of and protect his Sugar.
Of course, he may not do it in a very spectacular way, but he will definitely use the skills he acquired in the agency.
If necessary, he will falsify evidence and suddenly your ex-boyfriend will turn out to be a dangerous terrorist who had to be eliminated.
Jack has no qualms about threatening others with death in his typical Southern way ;)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3. Dave York
He won't hesitate to kill for you either. For example, your abusive ex-boyfriend.
But of course, he will do it secretly. After all, he is a hitman.
If you know about his profession, he will probably confess to the murder, but it may also be that he will withhold this information for your good.
But let's face it, when you find out that your ex-boyfriend drowned (and you know he was a great swimmer), you'll figure it out.
But can you be mad at Dave? After all, he did it for you. When you tell him about your guesses...
"He'll never lay a hand on you again." Dave will whisper into your hair and kiss your forehead.
But there are also murders you don't know about. For example, that guy who was aggressive in the bar...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
4. Joel Miller
Here it all depends on which Joel we are talking about. After the outbreak Joel or no outbreak Joel.
Post-pandemic Joel is of course willing to kill for you. Mainly to protect you.
It's obviously not something he's proud of, but that's the world you live in. Sometimes there is no choice. If he doesn't want you to be raped or killed, then he has to reject humanity. And he does it for you, he kills without blinking an eye.
If someone insults you or is aggressive, Joel may not kill him, but he is definitely ready to break the guy's jaw or stab him in the knee.
As for no outbreak Joel, the situation is different here. Joel won't kill for you... Not that he doesn't want to, but it's clear that he doesn't want to go to prison.
But you can certainly count on the fact that he will often scare someone who behaves inappropriately towards you.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
5. Din Djarin
Well, Din is a bounty hunter. He knows how to kill and if necessary, he will kill for you too.
But it won't be something he will enjoy and he won't do it for a trivial reason.
If you are in serious danger, he will definitely not hesitate to use his blaster. But don't count on him killing someone for you out of revenge.
Of course, this doesn't mean he won't threaten other people. He's good at making threats.
So if someone is bully or aggressive towards you, he will definitely hear Din's icy modulated voice:
"You can leave this place being warm... or you can leave this place being cold."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
6. Javier Peña
Javier is ready to kill for you, but because of his job, he knows he can't do it.
However, he won't hesitate to threaten your ex-boyfriend with a gun if he doesn't understand that you don't want to be with him anymore.
Javier can be aggressive and won't hesitate to use his fists to make sure no one hurts or insults his cariño.
However, the situation may be slightly different if the person who threatened you was a sicario. Javier may not kill him directly, but he will use all his connections to neutralize the threat.
And of course, he won't hesitate to kill if you're in danger. If someone kidnaps you, Javier will put the entire DEA and CIA on their feet and get a military helicopter to save you.
And when you're safe in his arms, he won't regret what he did, not even for a moment.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
7. Frankie Morales
This is another man who has killed before. Frankie knows how to pull the trigger, but... He's in serious trouble because of it. He dreams of dead people at night and wakes him up with nightmares.
That's why Frankie would be willing to kill for you, but only if there was no other option. If your life was in danger.
He is also not a fan of making threats. He prefers to avoid conflicts, but of course, that doesn't mean he can't look menacing and throw a murderous look.
Of course, you will always be safe with him. Frankie knows how to fight and in case of trouble, he is always ready to use his military skills.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
8. Marcus Pike
Marcus, of course, is not very willing to kill someone for you. He's an FBI agent, of course, he knows how to kill and has seen death more than once, but that's why he does everything legally.
He is also not a fan of making threats. Of course, you can feel safe with him.
It's not that Marcus can't be aggressive and combative. He just always tries to think things through and doesn't get emotional.
If your ex-boyfriend harasses you, Marcus will encourage you to report it to the police.
But of course, in a situation of danger, Marcus is ready to take out his gun to stand between you and the threat. And if it's absolutely necessary, he'll shoot.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
9. Javi G
Javi is sweet, we all know that. But he's also not afraid to defend you, but killing someone is definitely out of his league.
He may threaten someone with a gun because he can play a dangerous role, but he would really be the last one to kill for you.
If you were in danger, Javi would simply hire an army of bodyguards and never leave your side. And of course, he would carry a gun. However, if he had to shoot, he would probably aim for his opponent's legs or arm.

a worse foe
The blaster bold freezes in mid air, and Krell and the clones all stare at it as it crumbles to nothing.
"Fives," a voice, filtered through a voice modulator, says softly. "Take Dogma's blaster."
Lord Revan is standing at the entrance to the cellblock, tall and imposing and crackling with the energy they know as the Force. Fives takes the blaster from Dogma and unarms it, then tosses it aside. Dogma looks small at his side as Revan approaches, and lays a gloved hand on the side of his neck, thumb brushing just above where Dogma's blacks end.
"It's alright," Revan says softly, and leans forward slightly. Dogma meets him, resting his forehead against the cool, emotionless metal of Revan's helmet. "Fives, take your little brothers back to the barracks. Rex, can you stay?"
"Yes sir," Rex says. "Jesse? Kix?"
"We can stay, sir," the troopers answer.
"Good," Revan says, and everything is quiet as Fives gathers Tup and Dogma and heads to the barracks.
Once they're gone, the rumbling Rex has felt in the air becomes a roar, and then Krell is slammed against the wall.
"You don't scare me," Krell snarls. "You carry his name, but you are just a knight wearing old armour."
"Is that so?" Revan says, quiet. His hands go to the release clasps on his helmet, there's a hissing sound as the suit depressurises, and Revan lifts the helmet free.
It falls unceremoniously to the floor, and the sound echoes out across the room.
Rex sees Krell's throat contort as he swallows.
Revan's eyes are burning, flickering from red to gold to green, every line of his handsome face twisted in rage. His hands are clenched, muscles shaking, the Force roiling around him like a cloak. "You believe you can control the Dark?" Revan asks, and he pulls an unfamiliar lightsaber from inside his robes. "You believe you could be a Sith? You are nothing. You are an insect, vermin, compared to the Sith I have known. Have trained. Have inspired!"
The saber lights, and a ruby blade illuminates the room.
Krell's body is lying smoking and decapitated only a few hours later, tortured with lightning and lightsaber and terrible mind tricks that leave him screaming and babbling for mercy. For death.
Rex doesn't feel sorry for him as he picks up the decapitated head and hands it, smoking stump and all, to Revan, whose eyes still flicker between red and gold and green, but he's relieved to see the green appear more often than any other colour.
"Did Wolffe tell you?" Revan asks, taking the head and shoving it into a cryo-bag. "About-"
He holds up the lightsaber with the red blade, giving Rex a pointed look.
"You being a four thousand year old Dar'Jetii who is also the hero of the bedtime stories Fett used to tell the CC's?" Rex says. "No. General Skywalker complains about you a lot, some of that confidential information slipped out and Ahsoka filled in the rest."
Revan nods. "I want Dogma transferred," he says. "The 104th would be better for him that the 501st, he's lost his trust in the Jedi...Plo will be good for him."
"Permission to speak freely, sir?" Jesse asks.
Revan nods, and picks up his helmet.
"You'd be better for this army if you took command," Jesse says. "If you're really...really the Conquering Jedi-" Revan sighs at the title "-then you should be leading us, not the Council, not the Senate. You...you've done this before. You beat a better army than Grievous and Dooku."
"Mand'alor the Ultimate was a challenging opponent, yes," Revan says. "But after, the Republic faced a worse foe, one I could not defeat."
"Who?" Kix asks, always one for the stories. His eyes are big and full of wonder.
"Me," Revan says, and puts his helmet on. "The reason the Jedi don't want me heading an army is because they're worried I will turn it against them, like I did the last time someone gave me an army."
"But you wouldn't!" Jesse exclaims.
"Maybe I might," Revan says. "Perhaps I might start a war over you all."

Hallucinations
Jason never likes dealing with Crane, but he really didn’t appreciate the bastard slipping a needle into the soft spot in his armor. Either he got lucky or he knows way, way too much (probably the latter, because Scarecrow’s an observant bastard who’s been in the Bat-bullying business for too long), but it doesn’t matter which it was.
That wasn’t his worst trip. No self-harm. Seemingly no harm to others, not that it would have been a loss. Just. Just a final burning out of weakness. It was almost worth it.
Almost.
What he could have done without was waking up in a chair with hands on his wrists that, for a terrible moment, felt kind. But then he’d opened his eyes and Scarecrow had been looking back at him with those cold, calculating eyes and for a second he’d been Robin again, facing down a monster.
But only for a second. He’d come to his senses fast enough and sent Robin packing, shoved Crane off him and managed to stand up. He hadn’t fled, after. It had been an abrupt leaving, yes, because the conversation had been over, but he wasn’t fleeing.
Even if it looked like it. Appearances can be deceiving.
He’d been glad, though, to get back to base where it was safe and warm. Somewhere where he had control of the situation. He’s not entirely sure how he made it back, but it doesn’t matter now. If he’s quietly grateful to be surrounded by normal-enough people who probably aren’t going to drug him, well, that’s his business, isn’t it.
“--some of the guys broke into a vending machine and confirmed the soda in there is still fine,” Drouot’s saying tiredly. “I don’t know why they did that, but it wasn’t worth stopping them.”
“The soda,” Jason confirms. “The earthquake soda that’s been down here for a couple of years.”
“Yep.”
God. He goes to the trouble of assembling one of the finest armies in military history, and the idiots drink years-old soda that got buried in an earthquake.
Sometimes he wonders why he bothers.
He looks towards the ceiling, sighs, and looks back.
And nearly throws up.
Drouot, who was fine two seconds ago, is a lot less fine now. Half the skin on his face has been peeled off, revealing splintered bone underneath, and his body’s riddled with bullet holes. One arm is hanging on by mere sinews and the other’s outright gone.
“Deathstroke got a little too happy with a hand grenade,” he continues, the broken teeth clacking together. “So that was…not good.”
Jason can’t answer. Drouot shrugs, coughs, and spits out a gob of bloody maggots. Behind him, a swarm of roaches scurry up the wall and into the vent.
“Joker’s been sighted two blocks south, but Riley went after him, so I don’t think he’ll be a problem for long.”
No. No, no, no, Joker’s a Do Not Engage–
Joker’s been dead for a year.
–it’s not safe to handle him, none of them know what he’s capable of–
“And Frank’s just about got the drill done, he said to come down there when you got back–boss?”
Jason blinks. Pulls in a ragged gasp. And wishes he could rub his temples.
Drouot’s fine. No bullet wounds, no visible skull. No roaches behind him, either.
Joker’s dead, isn’t he?
“Where’s Dylan.”
“Running a training session over at the construction site.” Drouot sounds mildly concerned. “They left when you did.”
He remembers now. They’d split for one of the construction projects and he’d headed to Chinatown. Joker is still dead. No roaches. Drouot probably can’t shrug off a hand grenade, and certainly not with that kind of damage.
Motherfucking Crane.
“That’s right.” Thank God for the modulator. It hides the shake in his voice. “It’s been a long night.”
“Mm.” Drouot takes a drink from his water bottle. “You up to looking at the drill?”
On one hand, no. He wants to go to bed. On the other hand, he both needs to look at it and doubts he’ll sleep anyway.
“Yeah.”
It’s Scarecrow’s fault. He knows it is. But he has to check.
“Deathstroke didn’t drop by, did he?”
“No, should he have?”
Oh thank God.
“No. Just making sure.” He rolls his shoulders and inwardly winces at the crackle. “I don’t completely trust him.”
“Then why is he here?” Drouot complains. “He’s a dick!”
That he is, but Jason’s pretty sure Scarecrow’s a bigger one. Pretty sure.
“Contingency, Drouot. He’s a damn good contingency.”
“F’you say so, boss. But he’s still a dick.” Drouot frowns and squashes a scurrying cockroach under his boot. “I think we oughta spray again. These fuckers are everywhere.”
“Tomorrow.” Jason looks at the horde climbing the wall again and wonders if they’re real or not. “Tomorrow we’ll get on that.”

For the prompt game… Worcestershire!
"Woostsher."
"Warkestershyre!"
"Whoosh."
"How--that isn't remotely correct."
"The word makes no sense anyway!"
Wild laughed so hard he snorted milk out of his nose. Malon sighed, patting him on the back as the others continued to argue over how to pronounce Worcestershire sauce. Apparently they'd made a bet, and whoever could get the closest to the correct answer didn't have to do the yearly competency module.
"It's Worcestershire," came a voice from the doorway. Everyone looked over to see Time standing there with a cup of coffee in his hand, eyes half open and unfazed by the chaos.
"That can't be right," Warriors immediately denied.
"He's right," Malon said.
"You're biased!"
Malon raised an eyebrow. "Are you saying I'm wrong?"
Warriors' mouth snapped shut.
Wild snorted again. "She's definitely right."
Time smiled at Warriors. "You can do my training for me, then."
Legend, Wind, and Sky laughed at the army nurse's sour expression.

Listening to Captain America soundtracks at work, so have some thoughts:
The First Avenger's soundtrack is how nostalgia feels to me. So triumphant and hopeful and beautiful. It feels like classic trumpet-focused triumphant war-overlay, the Captain America March (not on the official soundtrack, boo) is a pretty classic march. But there’s grandeur to everything that gives it that little puash into superhero territory, and then it tends to fade into a more humble phrase, reminding of the gentle man underneath the hero. Alan Silvestri is my favoritest.
I forgot how stupid and campy "Star Spangled Man with a Plan" is, and omfg of COURSE people thought it was so goddamn silly that Captain America showed up to a HYDRA base and kicked ass.
The Winter Soldier is SUCH a tone shift from the first film. Henry Jackman made this incredible, ultra-modern set for this film. It's very good spy/superhero music, but it also does a lot of fantastic work showing how far Steve is thrust out of his element and into modern society and warfare.
And then, his softer themes, echoes of Silvestri's march, are not an exact sampling, and have a more... tinny? nature to them. Like a distorted memory; a distant past that one cannot return to. And having that during the museum scene is absolutely brilliant.
The Bucky scream. At this point, I feel like a lot of fans are aware, but I'll say it anyway. There is a modulated sound in this track, an "aaaa" that starts high, and dips lower until it almost, barely sounds like a voice.* That is Sebastian Stan's scream when Bucky fell from the train. It's worked beautifully into the music. It's haunting and startling on its own, but when you Know... ugh. Chills every time.
There are also other nonconventional sounds thrown in. Like a chime that sounds like a railroad crossing, other scream-like synth sounds. It's so damn spooky. If you haven't listened to the track "The Winter Soldier" you should. It is so, so good. Lots of radio crunch, metallic pounding sounds, and distorted electronic voices in it that are so tasty in context. There are boot-up sounds. Its chilling. (*It also begins with 3 Bucky screams, if you want a good example.)
"An Old Friend" is the track that plays during Steve's visit to Peggy, and it has an interesting theme in it. The first instance is at 0:07. Sound familiar? Try again, 1:32 - 1:48. If you are also a need and like Alan Silvestri and have been listening to another of his compositions on repeat because it's Amazing, then you maybe noticed it sounds like the opening phrase of "Portals", from Avengers: Endgame.
^I cannot be certain this is on purpose. But I love it anyway. Peggy is Steve's old, long lost friend, and she's there for him as he's floundering to find his place. And then in Endgame, he stands alone before Thanos, ready to face trouble head on, alone. And that phrase plays, opening portals to allow in armies of friends and allies, there to support the last man standing; Steve's new "old friends" who have been missing for 5 years. And the theme is stronger! Steve's support network has grown exponentially. I love the poetry of it. I love returning musical themes.
There are my Captain America music thoughts, at least for TFA and TWS. Maybe I'll listen to the Captain America: Civil War soundtrack next and reblog with those thoughts.

Free tactical medicine learning resources
If you want to learn first aid, emergency care or tactical medical care for real, you will need to practice these skills. A lot. Regularly. There’s no way to learn them just from books. But if you’re looking to supplement your training, can’t access hands on training, are a layperson doing research for your writing or otherwise just curious, here are some free resources (some may need a free account to access them).
TCCC
The current gold standard in the field is Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC), developed by the US army but used by militaries around the world. There is also a civilian version of the system called Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC). Training materials, Standards of Care, instructional videos, etc. can be accessed at deployedmedicine.com. You’ll need a free account. This should be your first and possibly only stop.
There’s also an app and a podcast if those are more your thing, although I haven’t personally tried them.
More TCCC (video) resources
STOP THE BLEED® Interactive Course
TCCC-MP Guidelines and Curriculum presentations and training videos
EURMED’s Medical Beginner's Resource List has suggested list of video materials (disclaimer: I haven’t watched the playlists, but I have been trained by nearly all of the linked systems/organisations and can vouch for them)

Hello I hope you're doing well. I understand the law but sometimes I get confused as to how things are done. I have an assignment I need to complete It within this month and it's a lot (I have to code a lot despite not knowing much about the subject) and I want that module to be withdrawn from my semester. But in the 3D, I'm working on completing the assignment. How do I deal with this? How can I envision the assignment not existing when I'm working towards completing it. Please help.
Heyy Butterbean!!
So basically you feel stuck doing something you don't want to do, happens to a lot of us. Happened to Neville as well, when he was drafted into the army and he didn't want to go. I think this exact post will hopefully help you out. A small excerpt :
He even said he was doing physical training for the army, but all he could think and feel is ecstasy. He was feeling what he wanted, not what he "must feel" or "have to feel" to "get out." No, solely to have he wanted in his mind.

Allies: Miguel Zambrano (Resistance) Petra Zambrano (Resistance) Rosa Zambrano (Resistance) David "Hesh" Walker (Ghosts) Logan Walker (Ghosts) Thomas Merrick (Ghosts) Keegan Russ (Ghosts) "Kick" (Ghosts) Riley (Best Boy)
---
History: Born in 2007 in Coronado, close to Naval Air Station North Island, Iris' life started out as any other child's life would. Her parents were both passionate about their military lives, but made sure their daughter was well looked after and loved. Gabriel in particular would regale her with tales of the Ghosts, and she hung onto his every word, aspiring to find and join them someday. Katherine, in turn, shared her love of aircraft with her daughter, and the two frequently went for flights whenever the opportunity arose.
Then, everything changed.
Iris' whole world was destroyed when her father was pronounced missing, presumed dead. At first she felt rage, blaming the other Ghosts for losing her father so easily, but over time she came to understand that it wasn't their fault. Elias made a promise that he would look out for both her and her mother, and Iris came to see him as another father figure in her life.
In the aftermath of the ODIN attack, with her childhood home laying in ruin and her mother being called to action, Iris did everything she could to try and offer some form of help, to be useful. Without necessarily informing her mother, she became an unofficial runner for the US Army, using her bicycle to travel around the safer areas to deliver supplies and messages.
This, ultimately, begins her downfall. In 2023, when she encountered a small patrol of Federation soldiers and attempted to spy on them, Iris was discovered and briefly attacked... right up until a literal ghost descended on her. Her father, believed to be dead, was now working with the enemy - and in the haze of his brainwashing, he saw an opportunity to make her like him. He wanted them to hunt the Ghosts together, and he was willing to break her to do it.
For months, Iris was tortured and starved, sealed in a pit in the jungle until it was determined that she would come around to the Federation's way of thinking. This would never happen though, as Nature herself sought revenge on her behalf - a jaguar, starved and desperate just like her, attacked the guards supervising her imprisonment. Seizing the opportunity before another patrol noticed, Iris clawed her way to freedom, snuck into the undergrowth, and eventually smuggled herself onto a departing truck.
Iris would eventually find herself in Caracas, fuelled by rage and a need for vengeance, but unable to take on an entire army by herself. That was when she was discovered by a local resistance force, who were battling against their oppressors to free their country. Their leaders, Miguel and Petra, agreed to train her and let her assist them, all the while concealing her true identity. She took on the moniker of Jaguar, and became a notorious problem for the Federation.
Now, in present day, the United States has pushed back the Federation, and soldiers are fleeing home. Gabriel Rorke, having secured a prize of his own, returns to South America and prepares to do to Logan Walker what he once tried to do to his own daughter.
But first, he'll have to deal with the monster that awaits him in Caracas.

book recommendation tag game!
rules: recommend as many books as you like. please include genre and some basic information on it (either your words or a copy+paste synopsis). feel free to include cover art, a personal review, trigger warnings, and anything else! just don’t spoil the book!
thank you for the tag @eloquentspeeches !! I immediately forget every book I've ever read xD I'm going to put what I do remember under the cut. Let's see~
The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells
This series is one of my all-time favourites. It's a science fiction series of seven books and short stories about a rogue cyborg security agent, set in a space-faring society with wormhole technology and alien remnants. The first book in the series is:
All Systems Red
"As a heartless killing machine, I was a complete failure." In a corporate-dominated space-faring future, planetary missions must be approved and supplied by the Company. For their own safety, exploratory teams are accompanied by Company-supplied security androids. But in a society where contracts are awarded to the lowest bidder, safety isn’t a primary concern. On a distant planet, a team of scientists is conducting surface tests, shadowed by their Company-supplied ‘droid--a self-aware SecUnit that has hacked its own governor module and refers to itself (though never out loud) as “Murderbot.” Scornful of humans, Murderbot wants is to be left alone long enough to figure out who it is, but when a neighboring mission goes dark, it's up to the scientists and Murderbot to get to the truth.
The Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson
An epic fantasy saga spanning multiple books and worlds, featuring magic, war, and the return of the ancient Knights Radiant. The first installment is:
The Way of Kings
Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter. It has been centuries since the fall of the ten consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor that transform ordinary men into near-invincible warriors. Men trade kingdoms for Shardblades. Wars were fought for them, and won by them. One such war rages on a ruined landscape called the Shattered Plains. There, Kaladin, who traded his medical apprenticeship for a spear to protect his little brother, has been reduced to slavery. In a war that makes no sense, where ten armies fight separately against a single foe, he struggles to save his men and to fathom the leaders who consider them expendable. Brightlord Dalinar Kholin commands one of those other armies. Like his brother, the late king, he is fascinated by an ancient text called The Way of Kings. Troubled by over-powering visions of ancient times and the Knights Radiant, he has begun to doubt his own sanity. Across the ocean, an untried young woman named Shallan seeks to train under an eminent scholar and notorious heretic, Dalinar's niece, Jasnah. Though she genuinely loves learning, Shallan's motives are less than pure. As she plans a daring theft, her research for Jasnah hints at secrets of the Knights Radiant and the true cause of the war. The result of over ten years of planning, writing, and world-building, The Way of Kings is but the opening movement of the Stormlight Archive, a bold masterpiece in the making. Speak again the ancient oaths: Life before death. Strength before weakness. Journey before Destination. and return to men the Shards they once bore. The Knights Radiant must stand again.
and last one for now
Deltora Quest by Emily Rodda
Deltora Quest is the collective title for three distinct series of children's fantasy books. It's a series I read consistently throughout my childhood and it's one I still enjoy as an adult. The overall synopsis for the first series is:
For centuries, the evil Shadow Lord has been plotting to invade Deltora and enslave its people. All that stands in his way is the magic Belt of Deltora with its seven gems of great and mysterious power. Now, Leif, Barda, and Jasmine must unite to find the seven gems and save Deltora from an eternity of darkness.
I tag @wickedthemusicalaustralia @astillnight @stunt-muppet @beeawolf and @avatarofterminus if you want to give some recommendations! No obligation, of course <3

Ellsworth Kelly
E.C.Goossen

euro 90,00

Issued in conjunction with the exhibition at The Museum of Modern Art, New York, September - November 1973; notable for the appendix ("Kelly and Camouflage")
Considered a pioneer of hard-edge painting, Ellsworth Kelly is best known for his crisp nonrepresentational works, intensely colored and radically simplified. His early training in the applied art program at Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, was interrupted by his induction into the army in 1943. Art Historian E. C. Goossen has speculated that Kelly's assignment to a camouflage battalion provided him with invaluable lessons about the interaction of form and shadow in space, which were applied later in his collages, paintings, and sculpture.
After studying for two years at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Kelly went to Paris in 1948 to attend the École des Beaux-Arts until 1950. In France he encountered the works of Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Jean Arp, and Piet Mondrian. His figurative work subsequently gave way to increasingly abstract paintings in which curvilinear and rectilinear forms suggest fragments of visual phenomena such as architectural elements and shadows.
In 1950 he began to explore the random selection of color and form by using collages, composed of torn details of his drawings, as the basis for his paintings. While in France Kelly also produced grid paintings built on modular and serial systems. By 1952 these concerns were expressed in large multipanel paintings in which each panel was a module of color. Kelly's concern with color as form was thus established.
After returning to the United States in 1954, Kelly worked with large single biomorphic shapes in black and white. Primary colors reappeared in his paintings after 1957, either in double or triple variations or singly in contrast with white, as in Blue on White

406. Douglas Niles and Michael Dobson - H1: Bloodstone Pass (1985)
Tumblr media
And now for something completely different. Here we are with a box set module! The first of its kind it's also a standalone introduction to the Battlesystem wargaming rules. In fact Battlesystem was named Bloodstone Pass during development, only later getting its final name as it was thought that the name didn't do a good job of conveying the fact that this was a new battle system for use of armies in the context of AD&D.
Tumblr media
They were right, Bloodstone Pass sounds like a bad night with kidney stones rather than a new battle system, but we ended up with a cool box set to go with the Battlesystem set that had come out earlier in the year. We get an adventure with plenty of maps, and a roster of troops to play around with, and finally a whole village to build from cardboard included with the set. All you need is a big enough table, some friends and some time.
Tumblr media
In terms of story this isn't a particularly original adventure, but it's pretty fun nonetheless, a riff on Kurosawa's Seven Samurai (or the Magnificent Seven for all you yanks) this involves a couple of villagers from Bloodstone finding the party and asking them to come defend their village from a criminal gang, you go to the village and train up the populace to face the brigand army that pillages them on the reg. You know how it goes. Even if it is an old plot, it's a tried and true one, and getting your party to play Seven Samurai is still great fun.
