Hello! ¡Hola! привет! 안녕하세요!

I go by Static or Métamorphe (they/them), I’m 22 years old, and this is the little langblr I started as an aspiring polyglot.

For right now this is just a WIP introduction post, but I am studying more right now so I found it fitting to make one that goes over the languages I’m learning!

My native language is English and I’ve been learning Canadian French as a second language casually for about 10 years (and yet I’m still at about A2!!) - it's become the hardest language for me because my education was so bad, so I've decided to pick up some others instead.

My target languages (including, but not limited to):

American Sign Language (ASL)

Mexican Spanish

Russian

Korean

I want to get more familiar with ASL specifically. Hopefully someday son I can say that I’m above A2/Level 1 in some of these languages!!

Some other languages I’m not currently focused on, but am extremely interested in learning are:

Arabic

Hindi or Punjabi

Mandarin Chinese

Irish (Gaielge)

Welsh (Cymraeg)

My big interests right now include languages (especially conlangs and slang/cants like Polari and Toki Pona!!), science (especially life sciences!), philosophy, and video games.

This is my main blog, which I'm using as a combined study-/langblr and general thought dumping ground. My most passionate interests include marine science, wildlife biology, ichthyology, ornithology, ASL, and environmental issues.

I am a white transgender man living in the US, and I use he/him pronouns. I'm not a minor, though I don't feel comfortable sharing my actual age here. Today is Sunday. I've given myself some easier tasks since I got a lot done yesterday!

Feeling pretty proud at getting all the chores that had been waiting finished and getting more stuff organized.

Even though we moved in back in March, it's been a bit of a struggle to settle in and feel like this is our home after moving around so much and so much uncertainty in our lives.

But I'm finally feeling like this might be a place to be calm and rest for a while at.

About to start practicing ASL with a friend for the first time. I know it's gonna be slow going and I'm kinda nervous but also excited! I don't have fast motorability so let's see how this goes!

Welcome to my Studyblr! ✨

I've been here since 2014 but well, I never got around to actually introducing myself, I guess? Here I go.

My name is Helen (they/he).

25 year old Queer Capricorn in Myanmar.

What am I learning? Well, a lot of things but mostly languages, literature, and psychology.

I am a native Burmese speaker but I also speak other languages! English (C2), Korean (TOPIK 6) Mandarin Chinese (HSK5) and Japanese (JLPT N3) respectively. I try to keep my certifications up to date but covid made it really difficult.

I'm working towards a Diploma in Pali.

I am also learning Spanish, Russian, Latin, ASL etc and absolutely getting my ass kicked by them.

I'm a freelance translator, writer, tarot reader, astrologist, language study guide, language instructor and a bookseller by trade!

I don't do all of those at once. I just sort of... rotate them if that makes sense. 2 at a time, 3 at a time etc.

I am very hardworking but I also have neck arthritis (Cervical Spondylosis), ADHD, Social Anxiety and Depression so it's a struggle.

I also have tons of hobbies. I like reading books, writing reviews, journaling and writing fan fictions etc so I'm all over the place.

I have a lot of stray cats that I've adopted so you'll get to see them obstructing my studies as well!

My life's not very glamorous. I'm in Myanmar. But I'm trying my best to hang on and also help others hang on. So you'll see me talking about free consultations and free lectures and humanitarian aid stuff etc.

I also run a paid telegram channel for tarot/oracle readings with my friends to fundraise for people in Myanmar.

I'm taking it one day at a time.

1/100 Days of Productivity

Ok so I'm going to be trying that 100 days of productivity thing everyone on studyblr loves to do so I can get a kick in the ass to do my stuff, so here goes:

Goals for the day:

Finish one to two portfolios for my History of Burma class (0/2)

Start reading for History of Burma class (0/2)

Work on Research Proposal

Figure out what book I need to start for my History of Science class

Figure out how to catch up on my ASL homework, specifically the presentation

"Nature is healing" is a common phrase during lockdowns. But this isn't entirely accurate, and in fact, can be a bit misleading.

Researchers analysed camera trap data on mammals from 102 sites across 21 countries. Two broad patterns emerged:

1. Animal response varied depending on their position in the food chain. Carnivores were more avoidant of humans and so less active when people were around. Herbivores like deer were more active, possibly due to the "shielding" effect from humans that protected them from their natural predators. Omnivores were mildly tolerant of humans, but became more nocturnal.

2. Animal responses changed depending on the extent to which human presence modified their habitat. For example, more humans can mean more resources for some omnivores and scavengers from garbage and food scraps.

A broad study like this helps researchers understand which animals are more sensitive to human presence, and encourages better co-existence with these wildlife: for example, humans can restrict their nocturnal activity to accommodate wildlife that are active at night in human-dominated spaces.

Note however, that there were a lot more samples from USA and Europe, compared to other regions.
