Ghost Tom idea

Half baked idea for fun don’t take me too seriously please :’P

This idea comes from the game mechanic of HPMA where when you use AvadaKedavra 4 times in a row, Voldemort appears. There is an alternate skin for this attack that puts Tom Riddle instead of Voldie. I couldn’t find HD versions of this skin so I thought it was child Tom Riddle following the character around, which I thought was very funny.

Anyways my thinking is Harry has been an auror for about 9 years or so and in that time he became so jaded by the ministry and how corrupted the system is. Even though he swore never to use the killing curse after the war, after a hostage situation gone bad, he allows himself to use AK when the situation is dire enough. No one says anything because he’s Harry Potter and doing his job. It doesn’t become an issue until his 4th AK when a child Tom Riddle starts following him around. Tom isn’t shy and constantly talks, which drives Harry fucking insane. Nobody else can see Tom but Harry. After confiding in Hermione and Ron, they’re convinced it’s a curse of some kind and make him go to a dark arts specialist.

The Dark Arts specialist is of course, Draco Malfoy. After days of testing Draco figures it’s not a curse but all psychological. Cue questionable therapy ethics, Draco not a therapist but using the techniques his muggle therapist does for him to try and help Harry out. (Or maybe there is a bit of dark magic in there idk)

The point of the story is to highlight the parallels between Harry and Tom(and Draco?) Obviously nothing Tom did is excused, but Harry understands things arent B/W. It allows for Harry to understand Draco better too

Draco is allowed the dark arts specialist role because the aurors thought he would immediately slip up and they could send him back to Azkaban. He has a trace imposed on him to make sure he doesn’t do anything shady. This is embarassing for Draco, so he has embraced the muggle method of doing things manually, so that the aurors have no ammunition to make fun of him.

Obviously I’m not a writer and don’t know where to go with this x’) I was just very tickled with the initial idea of a baby Tom Riddle ghost and tried to expand.

didn’t catch up on james boggart thing. that was, indeed, a funny little detail. plus i mean. i just loved how u killed him. cause since he’s the hero you expect some grand inevitable death by the big guy yknow… not just dropping dead from some minor character’s sister avadakedavra at a caffe lol.

after already winning the war! after giving so much of himself! after finding out he’s gonna be a dad soon! a dishonoring death, a death in so many ways avoidable… if only they had been given their wands, if only they had someone guarding them, an auror, a dumbledore? anyone!!! this just adds up so much to the pain. i lov it!!

also i really fw a ambiguous ending or them not getting together or getting together… cause they’re just too funny. look at these 2 guys ruining everything all the time. and it just adds to the misery because when everything is over, when there’s nothing left, i’m the type of guy to REALLY cling to the memory, as one does😅… cling to the fact that something real existed, that even for a little while they were happy, and the love was there, and they built something together. look how beautiful! BUT that’s only the case for remus isn’t? sirius doesn’t even has that🤣. which reminds me so much of eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, memory is a universe of itself, where space and time will never taint it, and how cruel to not have that! remus might be a miserable wet sock but sirius is going back and forth from hell all the time lol. AND even so remus manages to be the one who is suffering the most, can’t imagine being the only one left to remember the car crash

yeah boggart thing was just a fun little detail! & glad 2 hear u enjoyed his death i was looking forward 2 writing it 4 a long time <3 love when a character's death would so clearly be completely avoidable under slightly different circumstances but happens anyway...

& yeah i also quite enjoy writing 2 characters fucking everything up 4 themselves & each other <3 have never seen eternal sunshine of the spotless mind but i love playing around w memory & memory loss & the idea of how memory shapes who we are as people...the subjectivity of self-hood etc...also love stories where like. yes the love was there it couldn't last it might not come back but it still mattered...i think there tends 2 be this emphasis on happy endings etc but why should the ending be more important than any other part of the story, yknow?

Chap. 1 : The Depart of Mysteries (Again?!?)

Harry Potter had a bit of a savior complex, which was, of course, to be expected given he was quite literally the savior of the Wizarding World (and arguably the Muggle World also). Therefore, when he was given a mission he was not likely to refuse it, however traumatic it may be.

So one should easily be able to find how Harry found himself back in one of his least favorite places, The Department of Mysteries. The very same place where he watched as his godfather's lifeless body fly backward behind that sickening veil.

The now-notorious Mungdungus Fletcher was said to be trying to rob prophecies to sell for a pretty profit. The issue was, of course, that prophecies were very dangerous and not at all something to tamper with. Knowing the future has only ever caused harm.

Harry's was careful to tread lightly as to not alert the skilled thief to his presence; the cobblestone softly clicked beneath his work-shoes. He was slowly making his way between the large, orb-filled shelves. The blue glow was the only light in the room besides that of his wand, so he could only scan for Fletcher a few feet tops ahead of him. His eyes flitted anxiously across the shelves when something quite out of the ordinary caught his eye.

It was very similar to the rest of the balls around it, yet Harry spotted his own name on it. Having no self-control whatsoever, he carefully removed it from the shelf and held it up to his wand-light for a better view (after all, his vision wasn't perfect, and he wasn't getting any younger).

"The righteous will not peril", it read, "for they have aided in the banishment of a great evil twice-coming. They will be remembered but shall dwell not only in the memories of times past. One need only look through the veil, and their eyes shall be opened. For they have lived, and they are well."

Harry nearly let the orb shatter by his feet, but luckily was able to catch it.

"What the bloody h3ll" he whispered.

Once Mundungus was in shackles being hauled off by two other members of the order, Harry apparated straight to Mione's office. She was sat behind her large oak desk, clad in a dark blue blouse and grey cardigan with a standard knee-length black skirt. Typically Harry would have remarked about how comically similar it looked to their Hogwarts uniforms, but he currently had bigger problems to deal with.

"Hello, Harry." She greeted with a wave of bushy curls curtaining over her face. She had yet to look up from the thick stack of paperwork on her desk.

Harry said nothing, and after a moment Hermione went to glance up at him. Upon seeing the pallor of his face she rushed straight to his side.

"Oh, Harry, what's happened?" She cried as she wrapped her warm, sweater-clad arms around his torso. Is it something to do with the Fletcher case? I knew I shouldn't have let you go back to that wretched place- too many bad memories-!"

She was caught off by Harry thrusting the prophecy out for her to see.

"Is that a-"

"A prophecy, yeah"

"Well, why did you-?"

"Look at it"

Hermione took a minute to read through it carefully, making sure to absorb every word. "You don't think-?

"I... I think it's a possibility. I think it's worth checking out."

"But Harry, the only person we've ever seen go through that veil was" she paused as if afraid saying the name would trigger him "was Sirius Black. And well, that was after he was already- already dead, wasn't it?"

"I've never actually said this out loud" Hermione looked on concerned "but I don't think the spell was what killed him. I think it was the fall."

"What do you mean?" her eyebrows furrowed and her tone seemed calculative.

"I mean... that b1tch, as Molly refers to her, hit Sirius with a stunning spell. It wasn't an avadakedavra. At least that's not what it looked like. The light was red, not green."

Hermione was absolutely shocked at the implications. "You're trying to tell me that you truly think Sirius, as well as the others, are alive. Not just that, but perfectly fine?"

"I'm trying to tell you I think it's at least worth an MoM meeting."

She hesitated.

"Come on, Mione, please? Think about Ron, and Molly, and George! Think about how happy they'd be if all this turns out to be true!"

"Yes", she replied, "But think of how sad they'd be if it doesn't"

Nevertheless, Hermione ended up calling the meeting, and an hour later a large group of people was seated in little wooden chairs in front of the platform Harry would be speaking from. He looked out at the large crowd of people (they still weren't his thing) and noticed Ron, Arthur, Luna, and Rolf. A pit started to form in his stomach, burning, churning. What if Hermione was right? What if this prophecy wasn't even related to the Second Wizarding World? What if he got everyone, all of his loved ones who had lost someone in the war, to be happy and hopeful only to have to break the news later that this whole thing had proven to be a fake.

It was better than not knowing, he convinced himself. It was better than constantly having that weight on your shoulders, that so many people that you cared about might not actually be dead, and you did nothing to discover if it was true. It was better than leaving people, real, potentially live people, trapped somewhere behind that heinous veil.

Something was better than nothing.

He swept a long auburn-haired behind his ear (his hair had gained a barely noticeable red tint as he aged), and began.

"Recently I have come to light of a rather..." he snuck a glance at Mione, who gave him an encouraging smile before mouthing 'curious'.

"A rather curious prophecy. It involves those who were lost in the war, the second one to be exact."

Everyone's ears perked at this, even Draco's eyes widened from his seat in the corner.

"It seems as though. There is a possibility- a slim possibility, that those lost are alive. Stowed somewhere behind the veil in the Department of Mysteries. Safe."

"Are you just going to get everybody's hopes up? Or are you actually going to present us with the prophecy so we can decide for ourselves?" Malfoy questioned viciously, he truly did miss his godfather, though he would never admit it. A few nods were given around the room.

"He was just getting to that!" Hermione answered in a way that told the room she was to be respected.

"It reads", Harry cast a quick glare toward his nemisis, "The righteous will not perish, for they have aided in the banishment of a great evil twice-coming. Chater broke out throughout the assembly. Arthur's eyes were prickled with tears and Ron had tears rolling down his face, looking the most hopeful Harry had seen him since before the war's start.

"So shall we take a vote then?" Hermione asked the crowd, though it really wasn't a question.
