The Importance of Monitoring Backup Systems for Business Continuity
Monitoring backup systems is very important in a competitive business world where operations must go on without disruptions. One of the foundations through which such continuity is achieved is through ensuring that accurate backup systems are in place.
However, it is not enough to merely consider having a backup system in mind. The constant check on these systems is necessary so that they are reliable when required to carry out their tasks as planned.
Human-caused failures
It is very important to understand the various causes of backup system failures. These include hardware and software problems. Some failures may not be easily noticeable and hence require regular monitoring backup so that businesses can notice them early.
This makes it possible to know areas which may be affected in future so that necessary corrections are made so that backups are well stored and easily accessible in case of an emergency.
Adherence to the Legal Formula
Most industries or fields have set legal formulas for the conformity of the policies on data storage and recovery. The regular check of the backup systems would help organizations to adhere to these regulations, and in effect prevent instances when the organization is default, and ends up paying a hefty price, while at the same time, ensuring that the organization is always ‘audit friendly’.
Reducing Downtime
Effective backup should track that in the case of a failure or data loss, the system's failure can be corrected promptly. When backups are held and seen to contain up to date, current data it becomes possible for the business to cut down the time that it will take to gain access to the most recent version of the data.
Cost Efficiency
Monitoring backups assists in the proper utilization of storage space and hence reduces charges. Left unmanaged, a system may end up with older, and unnecessary backups may be created, which will only occupy a lot of space. In this case, businesses can be able to deal with their data properly concerning the backup systems without having to spend so much.
Conclusion
Given the fact that data has become one of the biggest strengths of any business today, it is important for businesses to proactively manage backup systems that are in place for business continuity.
Organizations that invest time and effort in managing their backups effectively are in a better place to respond and prevent data loss, secure their assets and ensure that their operations are not held back.

Frank Langdon x Male!Reader
Dr. Langdon and Dr. L/N have been hiding something from the rest of The Pitt staff. Work-Life balance, they said. However, it all comes crashing down when the announcement is made of what's happening at Pitt Fest, and you're caught in the crossfire.
✦•┈๑⋅⋯⋅๑┈•✦✦•┈๑⋅⋯๑┈•✦✦•┈๑⋅⋅๑┈
The hospital isn’t a hospital tonight. It’s a war zone.
You’re shoulder to shoulder with half the residency program, sleeves soaked, hands shaking from the twelfth tourniquet you’ve tied in under ten minutes. Every trauma bay is full. Gurneys line the walls. Floors are slick with blood and saline. Somewhere in the chaos, someone’s still sobbing for their sister.
PittFest was supposed to be a fun time, you heard.  Instead, it turned into a mass shooting, and now The Pitt is absorbing the fallout.
“BP dropping! We need a second unit in here!”
“Clear bay three for surgical!”
You’re running on instincts now — splitting focus between a teenage boy with a gunshot wound to the leg and a father clutching his chest in panic.
You lock eyes briefly with Frank across the trauma floor. He’s pale under the blood-streaked disposable gown, jaw tight, sleeves rolled. He doesn’t say anything, doesn’t need to, just nods, once, and vanishes behind a curtain.
You’re about to follow a tech to help reposition a pelvic binder when you hear the shouting.
“Get his arm— he’s reaching—!”
It’s another incoming patient. Mid-30s, laceration to the scalp, brought in unsearched in the chaos. He’s screaming, flailing. You see the gun before anyone else does, glinting by his ankle as he twists on the stretcher.
You don’t hesitate. You lunge in, grabbing for his wrist as he goes for the waistband. You shout, maybe for security, maybe for backup, you’re not sure. Another set of hands joins you, trying to hold him down.
Then —
BANG.
You feel the pain before you hear the shot.
It’s white-hot and sudden, like being punched with a branding iron. The impact sends you sprawling backwards into the wall. You hit the ground, stunned, the room tilting around you.
You press your hand to your side and feel the wet warmth soaking through your gown. Fast. Voices blur. Everything tilts. But one voice cuts through like a lifeline.
“Y/N!”
You turn your head, sluggish, dizzy, and see Frank. He doesn’t hesitate. He doesn’t check for danger. He just runs. Gown flaring behind him, surgical gloves half-off, his eyes wild with something that looks too close to fear.
He drops to his knees beside you.
“No, no— Look at me. Look at me.”
You try. He presses both hands hard to your side, searching for the entry wound. Blood seeps between his fingers. Yours, not his. He’s saying things fast, breathless. You only catch pieces.
“Through the oblique—maybe spleen—Jesus, please—don’t close your eyes—someone get a tray in here, now—” You don’t realize how quiet the ER’s gone until you see it.
Everyone’s staring. Dr. McKay stands frozen at the end of the hall, lips parted mid-command. Whittaker is holding a tray of surgical tools with both hands, not moving. Santos is watching from trauma bay 2, eyes locked on Frank’s hands still pressed to your body like he might be able to hold the bullet in place if he just tries hard enough.
He leans in close, forehead nearly touching yours. “Stay awake for me.” It’s not a professional request. It’s personal. Raw. “I’m right here. I’ve got you.”
Your hand brushes his. You barely register the gasps from the team when your fingers wrap around his wrist and he doesn’t pull away.
Frank doesn’t look up. Doesn’t explain. Doesn’t even try. His hands are shaking. He never shakes.
He stays right there, mouth pressed to your temple, whispering things only you can hear while the trauma team works around you.
And just like that, the secret is out.
But in that moment, all Frank cares about is you.
The hum of the ICU monitors is almost too gentle. Too clean, too clinical — a cruel contrast to the trauma floor below, where blood still pools in the corners and the ghost of gunfire still echoes in people’s ears.
You're stable now. At least, that's what they keep telling Frank.
Bullet missed major arteries. Nicked your oblique. Went through. Two liters of blood lost before they got you into surgery. You were awake long enough to look him in the eyes, and then you were under.
It was the longest ninety minutes of Frank Langdon’s life.
Now, you're out. Breathing. Monitored. Alive.
Frank sits in the ICU chair beside your bed, still in scrubs he hasn’t changed. Blood on his sleeves, your blood, dried and dark. His disposable gown’s long gone, tossed aside after the third time he nearly threw up in a supply closet.
He hasn’t spoken in a while. You stir.
Eyes flutter. Lips part. Your body protests the movement, groggy from anesthesia and pain meds, but your gaze finds him and holds.
“Hey,” you whisper. Frank exhales like he hasn’t since the shot went off. He leans forward instantly, elbows on his knees, face lined with exhaustion.
“You’re okay,” he says, softly. More to himself than to you. You manage a weak smile. “Told you I had it under control.”
His laugh is strained, sharp at the edges. “You got shot, Y/N.”
Before you can respond, the door creaks open. Dr. Robby steps in, tablet in hand, his expression unreadable. Behind him, Mateo lingers like he doesn’t want to interrupt but very much wants to be part of the scene. Santos trails behind both, her eyes flicking from you to Frank, then down again.
“Vitals are holding,” Robby says, glancing at the monitor. “Labs are good. We’ll keep you overnight. Maybe more.”
You nod, wincing. “Thanks, Robby.”
He watches you both for a long second. Then, “Frank, can I speak with you outside?” Frank stiffens. His eyes flick to you, but you give a small nod, go ahead.
He follows him into the hall. Mateo slides into the room a few seconds later, hands shoved into his pockets. “Dude… you really took ‘go hard in the trauma bay’ to a new level.”
You huff a weak laugh, then immediately regret it. “God, don’t make me laugh. Hurts too much.”
He lingers by the side of your bed, voice dropping lower. “Langdon lost it.” You look at him, carefully.
Mateo shrugs. “Everyone saw it. You don’t hold a co-worker like that when they’re bleeding out unless… y’know.”
You don’t say anything. “Guess that answers the year-long question of whether you two were just weirdly competitive or secretly making out in the on-call room.”
You raise a brow. Mateo smirks. “For what it’s worth? I think it’s badass.” Before you can reply, he’s gone, replaced by Frank, who returns with something stormy behind his eyes.
“Robby’s not mad,” he says, sitting down heavily again. “Just…disappointed. And suspiciously calm. I think that’s worse.”
“Frank,” you murmur. He looks at you “You didn’t do anything wrong.”
He swallows. His hands are fidgeting now, fingers curled tight, like he still feels your blood there. “I lost it,” he says. “I didn’t even try to hide it.”
You reach for his hand. It hurts, but you do it anyway. He lets you. Holds it back. “You weren’t supposed to be the one on the ground,” he says, voice barely audible.
“And yet here we are,” you rasp. “Still here.” He leans forward again, resting his forehead against your arm. His breath is shaky.
No more secrets. No one knocked before they walked in. No one questioned the way he spoke to you. Everyone saw. But somehow, for the first time, Frank doesn’t feel cornered by that truth. He feels free.
By the time word of the ICU incident trickled down to the nurse station, the trauma bay had settled into its usual version of high-functioning chaos: bloody, loud, and just barely under control.
Santos and Whittaker hovered awkwardly near the corner, holding clipboards they definitely didn’t need to be holding. They were supposed to be restocking trauma carts. Instead, they were frozen in place, eyes wide, ears perked.
“Okay,” Whittaker whispered, “but why did Dr. Langdon look like he was about to throw hands with Dr. Robby?”
“He wasn’t,” Santos said. “He was just… panicking. Over Y/N.”
“He looked like someone shot his dog.”
“They shot his boyfriend.”
Whittaker blinked. “Wait. Are they…? Were they…?”
Santos didn’t answer, because just then Dana strolled up to the nurse station with the unmistakable air of someone with tea to spill. She was flanked by Dr. Robby, sleeves rolled to his elbows and an energy drink half-empty in his hand, and Dr. Abbott, arms crossed, already smirking.
“I knew it,” Dana said, tapping a chart against the counter with a smug flourish. “Pay up.”
“You don’t know anything,” Robby replied. “He could’ve just… been having a meltdown. People cry in trauma. It’s stressful.” He says with the tone of a man all too familiar with that.
“He called him babe, Robby.“
Abbott chuckled, shaking his head.
“Damn. Two years of ‘I’m just his co-worker’ and ‘we’re not even friends outside work.’”
Dana raised a brow. “Please. I've been watching the way Langdon looks at that boy since last flu season.”
Whittaker leaned in toward Santos. “They bet on it?”
Santos gave a barely-restrained nod. “I think everyone did. Except us.”
Dana caught their whispering and turned, arching a brow. “What, you two couldn't tell?” Before being able to protest that it was their first day, Santos' brow furrowed.
Whittaker’s mouth opened and closed like a fish. Robby grinned. “Langdon’s always been… you know. Private. But not invisible.”
Whittaker hesitated. “Wait… you guys knew he was gay?”
Abbott snorted. “He’s not gay. He’s Frank. He drinks espresso at midnight and has a the humor of a middle school boy. Weirder things have happened.”
Dana waved a hand. “Pretty sure it’s not a label thing. But he’s been in love with Y/N for months. Anyone paying attention could see it.”
Whittaker blinked. “But they never even—like—I mean, I never saw them talk. Outside of rounds.”
“That’s the thing,” Dana said with a wink. “The not talking? That’s the loudest part.”
The three of them laughed, peeling off toward trauma bay 2.
Santos and Whittaker stared at each other for a long beat.
Then, “…This place is nuts,” Whittaker said. Santos just nodded, gaze drifting back down the hall toward the ICU, where Langdon hadn’t left your side since the shooting.
“You know what?” Santos murmured. “Kind of badass.”

Green Lantern (1960) issue #198
Fun Fact: When Tomar-Re died in Crisis on Infinite Earths he passed his ring on to John Stewart. This was more or less done to elevate John from backup status to full GL alongside Hal and Guy, but it does also imply a closer relationship between Tomar and John, which led to the following story idea...
Under normal circumstances, news of Xanshi's destruction would have spread quickly through the Corps. Billions of innocents snuffed out in an instant by the reckless arrogance of a human. But in the midst of the Anti-Life Equation's threat, even the annihilation of an entire planet was not something that anyone had time to dwell on. And in the aftermath, most of the Corps were simply too relieved at the universe's continued survival.
Most, but not all.
John Stewart stood in the antechamber outside of the Guardians' council chamber. The only noise was the tapping of Salaak's busy fingers on his monitoring panels. Neither of the Green Lanterns spoke. It seemed pointless to, given the circumstances.
"Ah, John. I thought I might find you here." Tomar-Re's voice broke through the silence, startling John.
"Tomar, I-" John swallowed and squared his shoulders. "Yes. I've come to turn in my ring and resign from the Corps."
"Because of what happened on Xanshi?" Being a Xudarian, Tomar-Re did not possess eyebrows to raise, but John had known him long enough to recognize the tilt of his head and slight widening of one eye to be an equivalent expression.
"Yes." John said. "It... It's the right thing to do."
"Hmm." Tomar-Re did not respond immediately, instead turning to the administrator. "Are the Guardians busy?"
"They will likely be occupied for some time." Salaak responded crisply, not even looking up from his station.
"Good. Come with me, John." Tomar-Re did not wait for an answer, instead turning on his heel and striding out of the antechamber. John considered protesting for a moment, but then quickly followed after the elder Lantern.
"Where are we going, Tomar?"
"To the Archival Opticon." Tomar-Re replied, stopping at a door and tapping at it with his ring until it slid open with a pneumatic hiss. He led John inside the room, which contained an array of complex machinery.
"What is all this?"
"The Guardians of the Universe rarely need the assistance of tools to look across the cosmos. But on the occasions they need to show others, this is the equipment they use." Tomar-Re went over to the largest machine in the center of the room. "Opticon. Display mission log 2813-S257."
The device made a whirring noise, then the top slid open to reveal diodes that lit up to create a hologram of a younger Tomar-Re using construct hands to claw through the surface of a barren planet and gather minerals into a containment bubble. As the recording continued to play, the present Tomar-Re spoke.
"Over twenty of your Earth years ago, I was tasked with stabilizing a planet with an unstable magnetic core so that the inhabitants could have time to evacuate. Toward this end, I went to the neighboring star Ariel and gathered as much stellarium as I could. But I was careless."
The holographic Tomar-Re cried out suddenly as a blaze of light washed over him, falling to his knees and clutching at his eyes.
"Ariel itself was in its death throes, and I did not take enough caution. The light from the nova eruption blinded me temporarily, forcing me to fly to Krypton by radar guidance alone."
"Krypton?!" John exclaimed in surprise. "You mean, you were-"
"Yes, I was the Green Lantern who failed to save Superman's people." Tomar-Re pointed at his holographic duplicate, who was now flailing blindly through an asteroid field. "Had I not been so careless, I might have arrived in time to save the billions of lives that were lost in that terrible tragedy."
John thought he understood then, why Tomar-Re had brought him here, and he shook his head. "I appreciate you telling me this, Tomar. But I... it's not the same as what I did. I was cocky and tried to take out the bomb alone when I didn't have to. You did everything you could to save Krypton. If the star hadn't gone nova-"
"If, if, if. There are a million ifs in a man's mind- and not one in his actions." Tomar-Re made a clicking noise with his beak- the equivalent of a snort for his species. "I failed Krypton as surely as you failed Xanshi. And like you, I sought to resign from my post, believing myself to be unworthy."
"Why didn't you?"
"One of your predecessors, Abin Sur, convinced me not to. He told me of his own failing early in his career, when he could not stop a telepathic plague from wiping out the Desert Dwellers of Ma'aleca'andra, which you know as Mars."
John inhaled sharply. "The Green Martians."
"Yes. Abin considered it to be his greatest shame. So he understood my shame completely, as I do yours. And what he told me then, I now repeat to you."
"These rings we wear, they grant us many powers. But the ability to alter the past is not one of them. Ma'aleca'andra and Krypton and Xanshi? That was then. This is now. And so long as you continue to wear this ring, you can atone. But if you give it up, then you also give up on the billions of lives you will save in the future."
For a few long moments, John twisted the power ring on his finger. Then he nodded and hurried back to the antechamber, Tomar-Re following after him. "Salaak. I need to withdraw my resignation."
"I take it Tomar-Re talked some sense into you?" The administrator didn't even look up from his monitoring panels. "Good. If every officer who made an error in judgment resigned, we'd be constantly training rookies who make more mistakes out of inexperience."
"Pragmatic as always." John sighed. "Thanks for the pep talk, Tomar. I'd better get back to my sector."
"It takes courage to admit your own failings, John." Salaak finally stopped typing and looked up from his screens. "But it takes even more courage to seek redemption afterward. Katma would be proud of you."
"I..." John stumbled at the mention of his late wife. He'd forgotten that she and the Corps administrator had been close. "Thank you, Salaak."
"Get going, Stewart." Salaak returned to tapping away at his screens. Once John had left, he looked back up at Tomar-Re. "Excellent work, Tomar-Re."
"Just passing on Abin's wisdom." Tomar-Re hummed, "Shouldn't you be telling the Guardians that John will be staying?"
"I never told them of Stewart's resignation in the first place." Salaak let out a low warble- a noise that few of the Corps had ever heard, for it was how Slyggians laughed. "I was counting on you to get through to him."

Chapter 2: Unseen Bonds
Tumblr media
Hello, hello.. this is the second part for the Shadow of their light, hihi... As usual, this is the slow update, but here it is. Honestly, I'm planning to write only a few parts because I really don't know how to end this story. Probably because of my unhealthy brain :( niweys, enjoy this, and thank you for reading ♡
Warning: This chapter contains themes of past trauma, emotional repression, physical violence, injury, and mild depictions of blood. There are also moments of emotional vulnerability, fear of abandonment, and internalized guilt. Please read with care if any of these topics are sensitive for you.
Genre: Slow-burn angst, action, emotional drama, found family, and soft romance.
---
The days began to blur into each other.
Your routine remained meticulous—wake before dawn, review security updates, scan movement logs, double-check patrol shifts, then monitor the group’s schedule and chatter from the confines of your apartment. You rarely left except to shadow them during high-risk events, always unseen, always calculated. And yet, despite the strict professionalism you'd always lived by, something had begun to shift.
It was the messages.
They started as playful noise. Idle distractions. But as the weeks passed, they became something heavier. Something warmer.
[felixsunshine] Look! I made banana bread but Chan says it looks like a crime scene.
[CB97] He used a blender to mash the bananas. The man made soup.
[Guardian] As long as no one dies, it’s still edible.
[quokkaJisung] omg is that a compliment??
[Guardian] …yes?
[l3eknow] we’re screenshotting that
At first, you thought indulging them slightly would keep them compliant and at ease. A simple tool. But their conversations now followed you beyond the screen. You would think of their jokes in the shower. You’d find yourself scanning for their faces on the monitors with something more than just surveillance in your chest.
Affection wasn’t in your job description.
And yet, there it was.
One rainy afternoon, a package appeared at your door. No address. No name. Inside was a mug, printed with pixelated text: “The Watchdog Has Feelings Too.” You stared at it in disbelief, then spotted the folded sticky note tucked inside.
We thought you should have your own mug. In case you actually drink things. — SKZ.
You held it for a long time. You told yourself you’d throw it out. But the mug ended up on your desk the next morning. Full of coffee.
The real test came two months in, when the group was scheduled for a late-night recording in an isolated studio. You noticed the interference first, subtle power fluxes in the camera feeds, then a short-lived blackout on one of your backup surveillance streams. That wasn’t just a tech glitch. It was precision.
You moved quickly, down the fire stairs, dressed in black with your ear mic buzzing quietly as you bypassed the outer locks. You hadn’t revealed yourself before, but this wasn’t a drill. Someone was trying to breach.
And you weren’t going to let them.
By the time you reached the studio roof, you spotted them, two masked figures scaling the side panel toward the air duct. You didn’t hesitate. One swift strike to the first, a flipped knife to disarm the second, and then a sharp breath as you felt the sting of a blade skimming your forearm.
You left them unconscious for HQ retrieval.
But not before you’d bled through your shirt.
You returned home close to 4 a.m. and found ten messages waiting.
[CB97] Are you okay?
[l3eknow] You're online but not replying. What's up?
[foxI.N] Something feels off tonight...
[felixsunshine] Please tell me you’re safe.
You typed a message with one hand while cleaning the shallow cut on your arm.
[Guardian] All good. Situation under control.
But the following text made your fingers stop.
[CB97] …Were you hurt?
[Guardian] Minor scratch.
[CB97] That’s not funny.
[Guardian] I’m not joking.
[CB97] Where are you right now?
You didn’t reply. You couldn’t. Your throat had gone tight.
They didn’t know you. Not your face. Not your voice. Not even your name. But somehow, they still worried like you belonged to them.
It terrified you more than any blade ever could.

ripley who’s always checking the airlock seals twice but only relaxes when she hears your voice behind her, teasing, "paranoid or in love?” and she just smirks like it’s both.
༢ུ ྀུ⠀⠀she’s practical, meticulous, always thinking ten steps ahead, but she softens when you're near—like your presence is the only safety check that matters.
ripley who’s always pretending not to be watching you sleep, but when you stir and catch her, she looks away like it’s no big deal, even though she’s been awake just to feel your breathing against her chest.
༢ུ ྀུ⠀⠀she’s not one for big words, but she’ll let the silence speak volumes when your body’s tangled in hers.
ripley who’s always brushing her fingers through your hair absentmindedly while reading flight logs, as if touching you helps her stay grounded in a life that’s always trying to pull her away.
༢ུ ྀུ⠀⠀she’s tactile in private—subtle and careful, as though love is something rare and breakable.

ripley who’s always teasing you with a low, quiet voice when she wants your attention, saying things like “Come to bed” or “I missed you,” even if it’s only been a few hours.
༢ུ ྀུ⠀⠀she doesn't beg. she invites. with her big and yearner eyes. and it's always irresistible.
ripley who’s always closing her eyes a second longer when you kiss her, like she’s memorizing it for every mission, every hypersleep, every time the universe threatens to take you from her.
༢ུ ྀུ⠀⠀she’s lost too much not to savor what she has. And you? You're everything.
ripley who’s always slipping small, functional gifts your way, (custom gear, backup comms, a repaired wrist monitor) each one delivered with a shrug like it's nothing, though her eyes betray how much she worries.
༢ུ ྀུ⠀⠀she shows love through action. and she’ll protect you in every language she knows: tools, silence, devotion.
ripley who's always pretending not to like being noticed, pampered and recognized, until you start giving her that watch that she found more useful than her own, or that record player that had a more vintage and beautiful architecture than the modern one she has, or even that janis joplin album she listens to on her headphones whenever she's working.
༢ུ ྀུ⠀⠀she doesn't like to make you spend money on her, she thinks she should give you a gift because it's one of the best things in her life... but she's the best thing that ever happened to you too.

ARTMS Profiles
Tumblr media
Subject Name: Choerry
Acquisition: MODHAUS disbanded ARTMS in response to the announcement of Loossemble's final sale values. Subject did not object to nor resist capture.
Containment: Subject has been presented with extremely simple and complex escape options on many occasions, and has not expressed interest in escape. Subject has, however, wandered out of unlocked containment for seemingly no logical reason, but no attempt at escape was ever truly attempted, and even approaching undisguised personnel. If anything, simple locks are recommended for subject's own safety.
Features: Exceptionally pleasant demeanor, uncommonly accepting nature, noted exhibitionist tendencies.
Modifications: Standard preservative modifications made post-acquisition, mild bulking, very mild breast and glute augmentation, no designer (see comments).
Specialties: Seemingly endless knowledge of kink and fetish play
Designer Comments: Subject is a model slave, and eager to please. On some rare occasions, she may express defiance, but this has always been either a joke, or as a result of some minor discomfort, which, simple remedies for which bring her back to full obedience. Subject derives great joy from displaying herself in a sexual manner and sexual performances, and she encourages others to do the same. Current cosmetic modifications are only the most reasonable of her own personal requests up to this point (she wanted additional breast and glute augmentation, but it is our policy to retain the approximate size that our slaves were well known for). Subject has made a variety of unusual modification requests which have been denied, some of which include a fur covered tail, butterfly wings, the ability to produce honey, additional sets of breasts, x-ray vision, and “octopus hair,” which she insisted had nothing to do with tentacles. Oddities and sexual prowess aside, I would happily recommend the subject to anybody who would like a little amusement in their life.
☆☆☆
Tumblr media
Subject Name: Heejin
Acquisition: MODHAUS disbanded ARTMS in response to the announcement of Loossemble's final sale values. Subject presented numerous challenges to acquisition. An addendum will be provided once related paperwork has been finished.
Containment: Subject requires intensive containment procedures, ideally with automated backup systems. Personnel interactions with subject should be minimal, and full automation of containment is highly recommended. Subject should not be allowed outside of containment. Buyer's interactions with subject should also be limited, monitored by trusted personnel, and subject should be heavily restrained.
Features: Uncommonly muscular physique, devious demeanor
Modifications: Standard preservative modifications made post-acquisition, bulking to counteract muscular atrophy related to containment, jaw locking mechanism, remote tracker
Specialties: Partner manipulation (caution), irrumatio
Designer Comments: Subject should only be purchased by buyers who are looking for an “unbreakable” slave, and who are well-prepared for the challenge. Subject made weekly (with varying frequency) attempts at escape, using a surprising array of skills to do so, and several full recaptures were necessary. Subject is unusually strong for a former idol, capable of psychological analysis even under duress, and quick to learn skills which may contribute to novel escape attempts. She was once fitted with a subdermal tranquilizer delivery system, but managed to remove it with improvised surgical tools and proceeded to cause irreparable injury to the personnel assigned to her training. The next day I commissioned her jaw locking mechanism, which has been the only personal device which she has yet to be able to remove or damage to uselessness. Though her wit is quite entertaining in short bursts, I strongly recommend not allowing the subject to converse or even speak for more than a few minutes at a time. Please exercise great caution if considering this purchase.
☆☆☆
Tumblr media
Subject Name: Haseul
Acquisition: MODHAUS disbanded ARTMS in response to the announcement of Loossemble's final sale values. Subject expressed some mild sorrow, but willingly complied with all personnel commands without further complaint.
Containment: No special containment procedures necessary. It is recommended to treat subject quite well to take advantage of her unique capabilities.
Features: Calm demeanor, uncommonly wide hips
Modifications: Standard preservative modifications made post-acquisition, very mild breast augmentation, enhanced lactation
Specialties: Gentle, intercrural
Designer Comments: Subject has been a delight for the entire duration of her captivity. Though our protocol is to separate former idols from their groups, I was tempted to put her into classes with her former group-mates to act as a calming influence. It is quite rare for any subject, including those who have clearly accepted their fates, to participate in the pacification of their fellow slaves. This subject is the exception to that rule, and has kindly offered guidance to fellow slaves, and intelligence to personnel. While subject is indeed an ideal slave on her own, I strongly recommend her to buyers who have, or are considering, other unruly slaves and wish for them to be made more passive. Subject's social proclivities are very well-suited to fixing such behavioral issues.

Subject Name: Kim Lip
Acquisition: MODHAUS disbanded ARTMS in response to the announcement of Loossemble's final sale values. Subject made some poor attempts at escape, but they were stopped with little effort.
Containment: Subject sporadically attempts to escape containment, but has not shown great capability while doing so. Electrified barriers have proven to be the most efficient deterrent, but simple locks should suffice if such facilities are not yet prepared.
Features: Mildly exotic appearance, quick recovery from wounds
Modifications: Standard preservative modifications made post-acquisition, very mild breast augmentation, no designer
Specialties: Masochism, orgasm denial
Designer Comments: Subject seems to be especially suited for our subselection of pain sluts. She responds quite well to spanking, whipping, flogging, caning, slapping, clamps, and pinching. Specifically, the subject acts as expected when exposed to painful stimuli such as those listed above (begging, crying, etc), but will invariably achieve orgasm within ten to twenty minutes of continuous exposure. Subject also has a rapid recovery time as noted in features, with heavy bruising tending to heal completely in two to three days and minor cuts in four to six, though she is prone to scarring. Subject is fairly quick to orgasm in sexual encounters too, and it was while testing this we discovered she becomes particularly upset when not allowed to achieve orgasm. By alternating between pleasure and pain, the subject can be kept on the brink of climax for extremely long periods of time with little to no need to wait between cool down periods, all of which feeds into her frustration.

Tumblr media
Subject Name: Jinsoul
Acquisition: MODHAUS disbanded ARTMS in response to the announcement of Loossemble's final sale values. Subject was difficult to apprehend, and caused major injury to three personnel whose medical fees are rolled into subject's starting sale price.
Containment: Subject no longer requires any containment procedures for safety or to reduce chance of escape. Depending on personal preference, simple locks may be useful for preventing unexpected advances. Alternatively, sex toys or other slaves may be provided to the subject for the same reason, though these should not be provided for more than a few hours at a time for the subject's bodily integrity.
Features: Uncommonly curvaceous silhouette, classically ideal figure, large mouth
Modifications: Standard preservative modifications made post-acquisition, mild breast augmentation to balance with hip size, pleasure sensitivity enhancement, plasticity increase.
Specialties: Overstimulation, self-humiliation
Designer Comments: Subject was violently resistant to slavery during early post-acquisition and had to be restrained at all times for the safety of personnel.  Introductory evaluation sessions yielded a hint that the subject had high potential for susceptibility to submission to sexual pleasure, even without the aid of aphrodisiacs. I was particularly proud to document the first instance of the subject requesting “more.” Unfortunately, violent outbursts were still intermittent and time was running short, so we did resort to artificial sexual stimulants, shortly thereafter replaced by general pleasure sensitivity increase modification. At time of writing, the subject has not given a single indication of desire to escape or violent thought in fifty-five days. fMRI and EEG neuroimaging scans show that stimuli which once triggered the subject's violent behavior now trigger uncontrollable sexual desire. During these periods, subject will attempt to pleasure herself even in the most inappropriate situations. If prevented from doing so, threatened with harm, or if any sort of authority figure is nearby, she will instead attempt to initiate sexual activity and will debase herself viciously to do so.
☆☆☆
Additional Designer Comments: The base prices of these former members of ARTMS are being reduced to 50% of what we normally sell our slaves for. The owner of MODHAUS entertainment reached out to us after we sold the former members of Loossemble. He seemed far more eager to sell ARTMS to us than any normal seller, and made a variety of comments about how much rich he would be after their sales were finalized. He unfortunately passed away during the negotiation process, and we are therefore selling these five at a steep discount to pass on our savings to you, our beloved clients. We hope that this outcome reminds our clients that, although we are not in the business of negotiating the absolute best prices all the time, we care deeply for you.

Skin Removal Sep 17 Postmortem
A few days ago I performed another skin removal procedure. (See #skin removal for more) Here's a writeup of some of the things we learned this time.
The #10 scalpel blade is useful for long+thin removals because the blade is longer. This lets us do the sort of "long, loving cuts" while pulling up the skin, under tension, using the full length of the blade. This is faster than the #15, but you still want that one for precision at the beginning and end.
For this design, there were certain cuts which we wanted to be along the same line, like the edges of the eyelashes:
Tumblr media
When doing the procedure, I did each of the eyelashes separately, so I did these cuts at different times. I should have used the sterile ruler that comes packaged with the surgical skin pens and made these cuts all at the same time. This would have helped make sure they're in line.
Tumblr media
This time I used sterile dermal curettes to even out the depth after removing the skin. This was a great idea and it made this step so much easier. I used the 4mm curette for this procedure, and I only needed one. I will be recommending this going forward. Here's the tool and me using it:
Tumblr media
Have multiple sets of splinter forceps!! (Or whatever your main forceps are.) I had backup adson and hemostatic forceps, but I was acutely aware the procedure would get a lot harder if I dropped my tools. This isn't relevant if you have a flash sterilizer, but those are kind of expensive.
Ask your subject what kind of communication they want from you! This time, xe said "if you had told me [we're halfway done] I don't think I would have been able to finish." Good thing I didn't do that!
EMLA cream (lidocaine 2.5%/prilocaine 2.5%) is quite useful to help those with a lower pain tolerance. It pretty much eliminated the pain from the cutting, but not all the sensations (e.g. skin being pulled up, felt sense of something wrong ("felt like something i could not perceive but my body was reacting to"). I have some prescribed because I've been scared of needles, and the numbing helps with getting blood drawn.
We already know this, but just to reiterate: it's important to get the correct depth on the guiding lines. The skin should separate, like this:
Tumblr media
Using sterile bordered gauze + hydrogel for the wound dressing did not work this time. It dried on the wound, and removing the bandage to clean resulted in mechanical debridement. This hurt a lot and irritated the wound in ways that we hadn't planned for. Using tegaderm initially, like we did two times ago, was also not ideal because it resulted in a big gross bubble of exudate. Something in-between these is required, but I'm not sure what. It should stay moist, but still be relatively absorbent. Tegaderm+pad, for the occlusiveness? Recs here appreciated. Pigeon reported it used a bunch of saline to soak the area to help with this, but there were still some issues.
The lines ended up thicker than in the design. We think this is mainly because skin tension pulled the cuts open. This may be mitigated by wound contraction during healing; we will measure how it ends up vs the desired width to determine that. See this video of me removing a full section to see what I mean.
The loupe glasses!! As seen below. These were some cheap ones I got off amazon, but were actually super helpful. They didn't really improve my posture, and my back still hurts >.< However, they did help me see details a lot better. If I keep doing this I will consider getting a better pair. They gave me a headache after about 30 minutes while practicing, but were totally fine during the procedure. Unsure why!
Tumblr media
I need to work on my aseptic technique. I was not adequately monitoring for reaching over the sterile field. My gloves should have covered my sleeves, but there was bare skin exposed. My gown was not sterile (haven't found sterile ones for a reasonable price) and it probably touched the drape a few times. The sterilization pouches I used were difficult to use for the bowls I had - difficult to get them out easily, difficult to load in the pressure cooker. I should really look into getting a secondhand rigid sterilization container. Last I remember, the difficulty was finding filters for these. Maybe I wasn't looking in the right place, or maybe I could make my own (tyvek? like the mushroom growers use...).
My informed consent notes mention the risk of keloid scarring, with a note this is 15x more likely on darker skin. I don't have a source cited for this, and so I don't know how this applies to black vs brown skin. This would have been useful to know!
Needed to print/laminate the handwash/handrub posters.
Re-affirmed a lot of things we already learned. Full-depth removal is the way to go. Ensure guiding lines are deep enough. #11 blade for short/straight lines, #15 for removal, and having separate scalpel handles for each is good.
Dumb one, but having a bunch of tiny individually wrapped gauze pads is annoying as hell. I picked up some bigger ones, we will see if those are what is needed or if I need to find packs of multiple smaller ones.
I'm gonna give it one more go, but I don't actually think pig skin is ideal to practice on, mostly due to the lack of blood/lack of elasticity. Much more difficult to determine the appropriate layer to separate skin at, compared to live human skin. Would appreciate other recommendations here for practice materials...
Okay, I think that's about all the thoughts I want to write out now! I will meld these notes with my existing ones soon, and get those published. As always pls hmu if you want to talk about this, especially if you have experience.

MARK HOFFMAN LITERALLY ANYTHING PLS
You literally have no idea how happy I am that my first request is for Hoffman!! I’ve been rewatching the Saw series and I’m SO obsessed with this man
Untested
Pairing: Mark Hoffman x reader
Word count: 1.4k
Warnings: not many, slight angst. Mentions of blood and a couple of the traps. mentions of sex, but nothing explicit (this time
Summary: you and Mark are the only two Jigsaws left standing. John and Amanda were killed in Jeff’s game and Mark has made it clear that Jill is no longer welcome. You and the detective have grown close, working together to set up John’s so-called games and making sure Hoffman’s name stays out of the FBI’s mouths. You always warned him that Jigsaw lets no one go untested. He didn’t believe you until Jill received a box.
Takes place around Saw V/Saw VI. This might end up being a part of a longer piece, I’ve had a story in my head for a while, so if you guys like this I’ll start working on the longer work!!
“When’s your test, Detective?”
“I don’t need one.”
“You know John is going to test you at some point, right?”
Hoffman smirks. “And what makes you think that?”
You toss the screwdriver on the table, admiring, as John has coined it, “The Rack.”
“Amanda is right, John doesn’t let anyone go untested. She’s been tested. I’ve been tested. That leaves you, Detective.” You don’t allow yourself to look at him, instead admiring your handiwork in front of you.
He pulls his gloves off, shoving them into his pockets as he watches you. He knows you’re right. He hasn’t taken his life for granted, but neither had you. But here you were, a survivor of the game and one of the few people John trusts with his work.
“I just wish you’d let me help you. I can help you prepare, for whatever your test will be.” You finally look over, staring at him, examining his face for any sort of confirmation, confirmation that he’ll give in and let you do something for him.
He scoffs. “I’ll be fine, sweetheart. What, you worried about me or something?”
You cross your arms and stay silent. Normally you’re fine with the teasing, the back and forth, but not when his life could be at stake. Even if neither of you would say it aloud, but you cared for one another. You both had given into the tension months ago, developing a relationship that you both agreed, at the time, was nothing more than sex. But with every broken nose snapped back into place, every cut bandaged, and every casual touch, you both became more and more aware that this wasn’t true.
Your silence stabs at his chest. Softening ever so slightly, he says “Don’t worry, I can handle whatever the old man throws at me. I’ll be okay. I’ve set up enough of these things to know what I’m doing.”
Your sigh fills the room. “Whatever you say, Hoffman.”
“I’ll be right there.” He shuts his phone, jaw tense.
“Everything alright?” you ask from your seat in front of the monitors. You had both been watching as William Easton made his way through his game, blood in his wake.
“Yeah. Erikson says they have the Seth Baxter tape. Some specialist is analyzing the thing and they want me there.”
You feel your shoulders tense. After a moment of silence, all you can ask is “You need any backup?”
He smiles. “No, no. You stay here and run the game. Make sure everything goes smoothly. I’ll be alright. Be back as soon as I can.”
“Alright.”
He run a hand over your arm as he makes his way towards the door. You fix your eyes on the screen, steadying your breathing.
“Mark,” you say, as he steps over the threshold.
He looks back at you, eyes still on the screen.
“Be careful.”
You see his reflection on the screen nod, before closing the door behind him.
The third shot on the carousel went off when one of your security cameras went black. You sit up in the desk chair, poking at the keyboard, trying to get the feed back. Groaning, you hoist yourself up, grabbing a tool kit and your gun, and heading to the broken camera on the back of the building.
Your phone rings as you tinker with the faulty camera.
Hoffman.
Preparing yourself for the worst, you answer.
“Hello?”
“Hey, where are you? I’m back.”
“I’m out back, one of the cameras cut. All good?”
“Yeah, yeah. I’ll tell you about it when you get back in. But I’m fine. You good?”
A weight is lifted off of you. “Yeah, all good. Be in soon.”
He didn’t notice the note on the keyboard until his phone was flipped shut, trying to slow his heart rate. You didn’t put this here, did you? Where would you have gotten it? You knew about it, of course, but why would you put it here? You didn’t even know when he was coming back. You had been there when he had written it.
“Are you sure about this? Amanda is good at what she does, even if she is a bit hot headed. Just like someone else.”
“Yeah, I’m sure. This is our game, not hers. Once she’s out of the picture, it’ll just be you and me.”
His eyes darted around, trying to think of some explanation. He’d have to ask you when you came back in. He thought about going out to “help” you, even if he knew you didn’t need it, just to calm his nerves. He hated the idea of you out there by yourself, focused so intently on what you were doing that you wouldn’t notice someone coming up behind you through the darkness. Even though he would never admit it, he couldn’t wait for you to get back inside. His nerves were fried after the fire, and he needed to see you.
He was so lost in thought that, before he could react, he felt an electric shock pulse through his body.
As soon as you got the red light on the camera blinking again, your phone buzzes.
Hoffman.
Impatient, you thought, flipping the phone open.
“Hello, Detective.”
Nothing. Dial tone.
Your eyebrows furrow and you feel your breath hitch. You quickly dial him back, pressing the phone to your ear.
No answer.
Fuck. You leave the toolbox on the concrete, pulling your gun from the holster around your waist, and slowly make your way back inside.
You slink through the hallways back to the command center, listening for anything that tells you where he is, that he’s okay. That he’s alive.
Then you hear glass shatter.
You could’ve sworn you heard a car door slam shut outside, an engine starting, but you don’t care. You quickly make your way to the room, the window in the door shattered and –
The bear trap falling from the bars.
You throw the door open, and you suddenly forget how to breathe. Mark is one the floor, alive and bleeding, the side of his face torn to shreds.
You holster your gun, rushing over to him.
“What the fuck happened? Stay here, I have a kit in my car. Don’t move, and that’s not a suggestion.”
He nods slightly, breathing heavily through his nose.
You rush outside, hands fumbling with your car keys, pulling the door open and searching the glove box for your first aid kit.
When you get back inside, Mark has moved against the wall, head leaning back against the stone. You crouch down beside him, pulling out a clean needle and thread.
“I can do it,” he says through gritted teeth, reaching for the supplies.
You slap his hand away. “Shut up. You’re not doing this.” He sees your tense jaw, your eyes wide, and decides to listen.
Once you’ve stopped the bleeding and have at least half of his cheek sewn back up, your heart has stopped trying to escape from your chest and your hands have gotten steady again.
“Who did this?” you ask him, his face finally whole again.
“Jill Tuck.”
“What? Are you serious?”
The rage in his eyes gives you you’re answer. All you can do is nod. Jill motherfucking Tuck.
You start applying an antiseptic to his face, ignoring his insistence that he’s fine.
“So,” you start, breaking the silence. “Do you want me to say it now or later?”
His eyes meet yours, and he lets out an annoyed laugh. “Later, thank you.”
You can’t help but laugh, relieved and angry and fearful all at once.
I told you so, Hoffman.
“Cmon,” you say, grabbing his hand as he forces himself to stand. “Let’s get you home.”

A fire broke out Thursday morning at a data center in Hillsboro, Oregon, leased by Elon Musk’s X, forcing an extended response from emergency crews, according to multiple sources who spoke to WIRED. The sources required anonymity as they aren’t authorized to speak publicly about the company.
Firefighters arrived at the Hillsboro Technology Park, in a suburb west of Portland, at 10:21 am, according to Hillsboro Fire and Rescue spokesperson Piseth Pich. They found a room with batteries that were deemed to be involved in the fire. Pich noted that the fire had not spread to other parts of the building, but said the room in question was heavy with smoke. As of 3:00 pm, the crew was still on the scene.
X did not immediately respond to a request for comment from WIRED. It could not be learned whether server operations at the data center had been affected by the incident.
Before Elon Musk bought Twitter, the company had three data centers in Sacramento, Portland, and Atlanta. This ensured that if one data center went down, traffic could be shifted to the other two—and split so no single data center was overwhelmed.
Around Christmas Eve 2022, Musk shut down X’s data center in Sacramento in an effort to cut costs. The company experienced a major outage in the wake of the shutdown. Over the next six months, the company moved more than 2,573 server racks from the Sacramento facility to data centers in Portland and Atlanta, according to internal documents.
In the Portland area, X appears to lease space from a building that has been linked to Digital Realty, one of the world’s largest developers of data centers. Digital Realty provides varying levels of operating support at its sites, which can have one or more tenants. It’s unclear if X shares this facility with other companies.
Ryan Young, vice president of Americas operations for Digital Realty, said in a statement to WIRED on Thursday evening that the “fire-related incident at our PDX11 facility” had been contained and that the fire department had left. “All personnel were safely evacuated, with no reported injuries,” Young stated. “We continue to monitor the situation, prioritizing the safety of our personnel, the integrity of the facility, and minimizing customer impact.”
Young declined to comment on customers.Got a Tip?Are you a current or former X employee who wants to talk about what's happening? We'd like to hear from you. Using a nonwork phone or computer, contact the reporters securely on Signal at @kylie.01, @mollytaft.76, or @peard33.24.
Batteries often function as a backup power source at data centers. But lithium-ion varieties can be volatile, and issues with upkeep and inadequate safety measures have contributed to costly blazes at data centers around the world. Pich, the Hillsboro Fire Department spokesperson, says he could not recall any previous fire involving batteries in the Oregon region’s many other data centers.
X’s parent company, xAI, has taken criticism in recent months for its rapid expansion of power capacity at a new data center in Memphis, which opened last year. That facility, which Musk named Colossus, was built up at breakneck speed to train xAI’s Grok and other AI tools. The company installed more than 30 methane-powered gas turbines, but because the turbines are temporary, a federal permit for pollution control isn't required, which appears to exploit a loophole in the Clean Air Act. The facility has drawn widespread criticism from surrounding Black and brown communities, who are already exposed to a large amount of air pollution and industrial emissions from other facilities in the area.

What would be in the kit that Hannah and or Ava would bring for emergencies? Like the extra kit with the lab draws? Anything else kept in there besides the lab tubes?
Tumblr media
The Kit They Bring
Summary: When you have chronic illness, your people learn to come prepared. Hannah and Ava have walked Connor’s wife through everything—flares, crashes, surprise reactions, sudden dips. And over time, they’ve built a kit that travels with them like armor. Not the hospital crash cart. Not the home med bin Connor keeps in the hall closet. But the extra kit—the one Ava in her office and Hannah stashes in her trunk. The kit that comes out only when they’re paged as friends first, clinicians second. And when they open it? Everything inside tells a story of who she is and how hard they’ve fought to keep her stable.
Tumblr media
The first time Hannah built the kit, she did it after a string of rough crashes during a stretch of unpredictable POTS flares and endo bleeding.
Connor had her stabilized at home. Ava had texted every two hours. Will was pacing.
And Hannah had had enough of not being ready.
So she got a hard-sided black med case, a little smaller than a tackle box, and started filling it—not just as a doctor, but as someone who knew her patient like family.
Inside the Emergency Kit (Hannah & Ava’s Version):
1. Portable Lab Draw Supplies:
Because data saves lives—and timing matters.
• Butterfly needles (multiple gauges)
• Vacutainer adapter
• Lab tubes: CBC, CMP, PT/INR, troponin, ESR, CRP, lactate
• Pre-labeled specimen bags
• Alcohol pads, tourniquet, gauze, Coban wrap
“I’m not waiting for her to code before I get numbers,” Hannah had told Connor bluntly after the second time she crashed hard enough to warrant cardiac markers.
2. IV Emergency Access Supplies:
Just in case Connor hasn’t already accessed her port:
• Port access needles (different lengths for comfort)
• Sterile port dressing kits
• Chloraprep wipes
• Heparin flushes
• Normal saline flushes
• Extension tubing
• Tegaderm and securement clips
• Backup midline access gear (for when they’re really desperate)
Ava added those. “If we can’t get the port or she’s clotting, I’m not gambling. We’re threading something.”
3. Meds They Never Leave Out:
• IV Zofran
• IV Benadryl
• IV Toradol
• IM Ketorolac
• Epi pen (just in case)
• TXA (Tranexamic Acid) pre-filled syringe
• Hydromorphone syringe
• NS bolus bag
• Dextrose amp + Glucose gel
• Lidocaine (for port discomfort or surface numbing)
Some of it’s off-label. All of it’s tracked. Ava once said, “We’re not trying to treat her like she’s glass. We’re trying to keep her out of ICU.”
4. Monitoring Tools & Backup Gear:
• Digital BP cuff with multiple cuff sizes
• Pulse ox
• Glucometer and test strips
• Thermometer
• Small paper log notebook for hand-tracking vitals (in case the tablet goes offline)
And tucked in one corner—an emergency chart printout with her baseline labs, EDS/POTS/Endo care notes, medication allergies, emergency contacts, and port access protocol.
5. Comfort Add-Ins:
Because Hannah and Ava are friends first.
• Extra scrunchies
• A sensory stim ring
• A travel heating pad with rechargeable battery
• One of her favorite lip balms
• Single-serve peppermint tea bags
• And a granola bar with the note “Don’t pass out without eating.”
Bonus Pocket:
Ava once quietly added a laminated card labeled:
“When She Can’t Talk”
Inside:
• Flashcard prompts for pain scale, nausea, dizziness, pressure
• Pre-typed phrases she can point to
• Emergency meds checklist with red/yellow/green coding
Because they’d learned that sometimes, all she could do was point.
When Connor opens the door for them during one of those 911 nights, he barely has to speak.
They all know the drill.
And when they kneel next to her on the floor or the couch or the bath mat, kit open, gloves on—it’s not just about medicine.
It’s about trust.
And the unspoken promise that her village always shows up armed.

The Hacker
Tumblr media
Detente for the Ravenous launches in TWO WEEKS! Time to share one of the weirdest, and what I hope will be, most interesting, classes: The Hacker.
DFTR takes place in a world caught between the 17th Century and Cold War, which means technologically, it's a disaster. Since the novel is structured like a heist, I wanted to keep some fun tropes from films like Oceans' 11 and Princess Switch 3: Romancing the Star in the text. And one aspect of that is using computers and technology to break into highly guarded locations and spy on enemies with little gadgets and doodads. I took the novel's "hacker" character and morphed him into a character class which is, I hope, a really cool way to play a trad game.
As technology changes, so too must intelligence operations evolve. Hackers exploit weaknesses in network security and electronic tools, turning our enemies' defenses against them. Even when operating from a distance, our hackers provide crucial tactical support to teams in the field.
That "from a distance" part is crucial, because the Hacker is largely going to be away from the main action of the game. They're squishy, skilled in Analysis, not any of the main combat verbs. What they can do, however, is provide backup from the comfort of their gamer chair.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Core abilities are pretty straightforward. You can cause minor electrical malfunctions, which will harm hostiles and worsen their ability to hurt your teammates. You're also, crucially, more effective when you're sitting at your Gamer PC. The Hacker is built around the assumption that the majority of the time, you're going to be the eye in the sky, using cameras and radios to monitor your team's progress.
Case in point:
Tumblr media
There, now you have a convenient excuse for how your character is able to interact with the mission, even when you're chilling in a bunker somewhere.
This still doesn't get around the problem of your character not really being able to fight the Ravenous when they show up. Which I think is a fair criticism. But Hackers aren't really meant to be muscle, they're meant to be worked into a version of the game that's much more about manipulation and distraction. You can't hurt the kaiju, but you can rally the population into a mob who will fight it for you.
Tumblr media
I want the Hacker to feel like a character who can still make huge impacts on the world of the game even if they're not shooting crossbows and dodging cavalry, and I hope these advances give players options to play DFTR in a way that is not entirely focused on combat. I love a good fighting system, but sometimes I think it's a lot more fun if you just say, "fuck it, I'm starting a financial crisis."

Benefits of Real-Time Alerts in Backup Monitoring Tools
With backup monitoring, organisations that require data integrity and timely availability must have the system send alerts in real-time. These alerts provide real-time information as to the conditions of backup processes and inform IT specialists about the problems occurring. Here is the detailed information on the usefulness and performance of real-time alerts for backup monitoring tools.
Immediate Issue Detection
Another benefit of using the real-time alerts is that it helps in the early identification of problems during backup operations. Even when it comes to a backup failure, disk corruption, or a missed schedule, real-time alerts will instantly inform the IT departments. This fast detection allows a fast intervention, significantly decreasing the chance of data loss and increasing the available working time.
Proactive Problem Resolution
Alerts make IT teams go for prevention rather than being on the lookout for symptoms of a problem. The idea here is that instead of finding out about an incident, let us say, after hours or days when it might have been too late to retrieve important information, work can be done on troubles as they occur. This is a proactive way of managing the continuity of business and leads to the constant protection of data.
Enhanced Data Security
The protection of data is a priority to any institution. Real-time alerts in netapp monitoring tools also help in increasing data security since it is an alert that informs the backup process is done and any abnormality. For example, if there is an issue with a backup of the system or if there is an intrusion attempt making a try to get the backup files, they can notify the concerned person and allow him to act quickly in securing the data.
Reduced Downtime
Customer downtime is not good for business and can come with severe production loss and a battered reputation. Real-time alerts that notify an administrator of backup failures or performance concerns occur in real time and so decrease the time taken to diagnose the issue. This helps to minimise time wastage and enables businesses to proceed with their activities with slightly much interference.
Compliance and Reporting
A lot of sectors deal with strict data protection laws that allow for frequent and correct backups. Real-time alerts assist organisations to remain legal, by as a backup processes when these are supposed to be happening. In turn, these alerts can be recorded and incorporated into the usual compliance report, thus showing that the organisation is following the data protection regulations.
Conclusion
The benefits of real-time alerts in backup monitoring tools are clear. They improve data protection, cut out the time where devices are not working, maintain compliance, and allow for preventive decision-making. For you to optimally safeguard the data in your organisation and ensure business keeps running as it faces any eventualities here are some tips on incorporating alert systems on your backup plans.

Analog vs. Digital Meters: Understanding the Differences and Applications
Tumblr media
In today’s increasingly connected and technologically advanced world, precise electrical measurement is critical for efficient power management and system monitoring. Two primary tools dominate the field of electrical measurement: analog meters and digital meters. While both serve the same fundamental purpose — measuring electrical quantities like voltage, current, and frequency — their technology, design, readability, and application differ significantly.
This article explores the key differences between analog and digital meters, their respective advantages, disadvantages, and common use cases to help you make an informed decision when selecting the right meter for your needs.
What Are Analog Meters?
Analog meters are traditional instruments that display measurement readings through a mechanical needle moving over a graduated scale. They have been widely used for decades in industries, commercial applications, and even residential setups.
Key Features of Analog Meters:
· Use of moving coil or iron vane mechanisms
· Continuous scale display
· Passive operation (no power required in many types)
· Simple, durable construction
Common Types:
· Analog Voltmeters
· Analog Ammeters
· Analog Frequency Meters
· Analog Power Factor Meters
Advantages of Analog Meters:
· Easy to interpret trends and fluctuations
· Cost-effective for basic applications
· Operate without auxiliary power
· Better tolerance to transient spikes and overloads
Limitations:
· Lower accuracy compared to digital meters
· Manual reading required
· Parallax error due to needle reading
· Limited data logging or interfacing capabilities
What Are Digital Meters?
Digital meters represent a more modern approach to electrical measurement. These devices convert analog signals into digital values, displaying results on an LCD or LED screen. They are widely used in automation, smart grids, and precision engineering environments.
Key Features of Digital Meters:
· High-resolution digital display
· Advanced microprocessor control
· MODBUS communication (RS-485 interface)
· Programmable settings and alarms
Common Types:
· Digital Voltmeters
· Digital Ammeters
· Digital Frequency Meters
· Digital Multifunction Meters (VAF, kWh, Power Factor, etc.)
Advantages of Digital Meters:
· High accuracy and readability
· Remote monitoring capabilities
· Compact and modern design
· Enhanced functionalities like data logging, alarms, and networking
Limitations:
· Higher initial cost
· Requires auxiliary power
· More complex installation in some cases
Tumblr media
Applications of Analog and Digital Meters
Where Analog Meters Excel:
· Educational institutions for teaching fundamentals
· Industrial environments where ruggedness is key
· Backup or emergency systems where power is limited
· Low-budget installations
Where Digital Meters Lead:
· Smart panels and industrial automation
· Energy monitoring systems
· Commercial buildings and infrastructure
· Remote power distribution networks
Choosing the Right Meter: Factors to Consider
When deciding between analog and digital meters, consider the following:
1. Accuracy Requirements — For precision tasks, digital meters are the preferred choice.
2. Budget Constraints — Analog meters offer a cost-effective solution for basic needs.
3. Environment — Analog meters can be more tolerant in high-temperature or high-vibration areas.
4. Communication Needs — If integration with SCADA or monitoring systems is needed, go digital.
5. Data Analysis — For trend tracking and analytics, digital meters with memory and communication ports are ideal.
