You know what adaptation I’d really like to see?
A TV series adaptation for The Devil and Daniel Webster. It was originally a movie back in 1941, and to my knowledge, it hasn’t been remade in any format since.(It is a really good movie though, I highly recommend it).
The original premise of the film is about one man who makes a deal with a man (who is either a demon or the Devil himself, it’s not exactly explained) named Mr. Scratch, who trades him his soul for a more prosperous life for the next seven years. When Scratch comes to collect on their deal, the damned man gets help from an extremely well-respected lawyer, Daniel Webster.
this story could really work as a series, in my opinion. Daniel Webster could be a lawyer who at the beginning of the series, begins to specialize in cases of people who clearly made deals with the Devil and now need to get out of them, it could be an episodic thing.
The Devil could be played by multiple people (as it’s said the Devil takes many forms), and maybe Daniel Webster could even have someone from the Heaven-side helping him, in disguise as a legal aide (and maybe he does or doesn’t know who/what they are).
This is gonna bug me forever. TV WRITERS GET ON THIS!!!!!!

I saw comments that the new butler from Ridekamens look like Sebek
He...kinda does
I wasn't gonna say it, but. that was kind of my first thought when he was revealed. :') maybe this is what Sebek's older brother is doing these days? he ran off to buttle for secret agents at a superhero cafe? actually wait that would be rad as heck, I'll accept this headcanon

Sort of a distant tangent off my post about Ashton, but I'm growing more and more suspicious of the fandom claim that there's no time for small RP moments in Campaign 3. I do think that it's been challenging to get deeper party bonding or serious conversations that aren't about the big philosophical questions they're facing, since those do take much more time; but then I think about Calamity, or Candela Obscura. I can genuinely give you at least a couple paragraphs about pretty much every relationship in the two Circles, or in the Ring of Brass. I can also point to no shortage of small moments between characters in the Mighty Nein Aeor or Vox Machina Vecna endgame episodes, which were all extremely plot-heavy and fast-paced, and D20 consistently nails character relationships in a fraction of the time.
I think it really does come down to, as Brennan Lee Mulligan always says, the character creation phase. Laying down a solid groundwork in which everyone has a detailed, rich backstory and sense of personality and relationship history (in the case of characters who knew each other prior to the start of the series) is absolutely crucial, and even in the case of characters who don't know each other before going in, a good amount of time spent in character creation ensures that it's easier for them to develop those interpersonal relationships on the fly. I know in actual play there's some degree of finding the character as you play, but there are games for which there is a very short runway, and I don't think it ever hurts to do more extensive character prep than the bare minimum. And if there are gaps, I think it also helps to go back and fill those in mid-way, away from the table - Travis clarifying Chetney's backstory being a great example that allowed the history of Chetney and Deanna to feel realized and full, despite only a few episodes.
I'll also be blunt: most of the time when people complain that there aren't moments because the plot keeps moving...they're mad about shipping. Which has always rung hollow to me. It was a common complaint in C2, that no time was taken for character relationships, despite them taking an entire half of an episode for the Beauyasha date and despite no shortage of moments for all three of the other couples (and plenty of platonic moments between friends). The issue was never a lack of time; it was that the characters they wanted to talk to each other didn't actually have the relationship in canon that the fans had dreamed up, and so, when the chips were down, they went to other people.
It takes two seconds to say something like "I hold their hand", even in the middle of plot-heavy adventuring. If someone doesn't say it, it's rarely the GM rushing them; it's the player either choosing not to do so, or not remembering to do so, and either of those is quite revealing regarding how the player feels about that relationship and where it stands in their priorities.
#i've felt this for a while but like. fundamentally? C3 is just...uniquely not set up for terribly satisfying shipping#even the ships I do like and that get small moments are relatively background#like 80% of quote unquote ship content is like. fanon goggles overlaying either parallel play or standard battle mechanics#which is fine! I think it's a different vibe and approach than the past 2 campaigns#i think especially in character creation; self-insert or easy for new players (c1)#followed by Morally Gray Campaign; Prove We Can Replicate This Success; Serious Characters (C2); followed by Let's Get Silly With It (C3)#which is less conducive to that profound connection of c1 or c2. which is not a bad thing!#but god. if you complain about the D&D show having too much d&d plot and not enough romance...yeah pal it's d&d not a dating sim#like I enjoy when there is romance in my fantasy but it's not a requirement. there is a genre full of romance. it is called romance.#i'm also thinking about this bc I need to watch wot s2 but i've been told that the fandom has gotten weird#like wow so moiraine/siuan is not the A plot? in a high fantasy Good vs. Evil series? WHO'D HAVE THOUGHT.#getting back to this...i'm also thinking about my own life and like. i moved to where i live not long pre-lockdown#and so i'm finding myself a resident of this area for 4+ years but with weaker connections than i'd have otherwise. and that's fine!#but psychologically i feel so weird about just starting to find my place bc it's been so long even though there's a good reason#and i wonder if the cast/Hells feels the same way ie why are we only just bonding now 70 eps in and so they're hesitant#that I Waited Too Long And Now It's Awkward feeling; that I Should Be Past This By Now fallacy#which. again. i think things early on could have been done differently but that time is past you need to live in the present now.#cr tag

Scene Rewrites/Taryn's Birthday Celebration 2024
Scene: Kakashi Vs Kakuzu
Words: 2,023 (it got a little out of hand whoops)
For: @skykashi
Over the years Kakashi had faced a lot of different shinobi.
Some stronger than him that he had managed to outsmart, some far weaker than him that had posed him no trouble at all, and those that fell somewhere in between. A sufficient threat, but one that he could deal with on his own without pushing himself too close to the brink of chakra exhaustion.
Kakuzu fell into none of those categories.
Instead, he was in a category of his very own.
Skilled, but not skilled enough to really cause Kakashi any worry, yet also an absolute pain in his ass that refused to die.
Four hearts had been destroyed and yet there he stood. Just as ready to fight as he was when Kakashi stuck his arm through his chest and took out the first heart.
“You’re growing tired,” Kakuzu taunted, as if Kakashi couldn’t tell on his own just how tired he was.
Every bone in his body ached. His chakra was near complete depletion, and the jutsu’s he had available to him were dwindling. He’d fought for so long, slowly destroying one heart after another, that all he had left was enough chakra for one single Chidori.
Two if he was willing to risk depleting his chakra completely just so he could put the final nail in Kakuzu’s coffin and save Konoha, and more importantly Naruto, from having to deal with a near immortal threat.
“I’m doing fine,” he answered, his voice heavy with exhaustion and each breath he took burning down his throat. “If I were you I’d worry about myself, not my opponent.”
“An opponent who looks like he’s about to collapse,” Kakuzu sneered. “And the shinobi you brought with you to fight me aren’t even helpful. All they’ve been to you is a hindrance.”
“At least they weren’t fighting with me the entire time,” he huffed. “besides, if I remember correctly, the three of them are the reason you’re fighting alone now.” A smile stretched across his lips as he thought back to the moment Shikamaru, Ino and Choji had returned from their fight against Hidan. It had proven to be an easy fight to win, and Hidan was no longer a threat to them.
Their mission, and more importantly their revenge, was complete, so Kakashi had told them to head back to the village for reinforcements, just in case he wasn’t able to complete this fight on his own.
Unfortunately, they hadn’t come back yet.
Still, he fought on. The first two hearts had proven easy enough for him to destroy, with the first one being taken out by his sneak attack from behind and the second going when Shikamaru implemented his plan using the blood he’d stolen from Kakuzu.
The next two hearts were harder, but he’d managed to take them out. One by using an electric clone to distract Kakuzu and sticking when he got trapped by the charged current running through his body when he tried to take its heart. The second heart had gone out shortly after, though Kakashi had been forced to charge through the electrical jutsu that Kakuzu’s mask had sent flying at him.
Thankfully his Raikiri had proven just as capable of cutting through lightning as it was when he was just a teenager desperate to protect his friend. Still, charging headfirst into a lightning attack was never a smart idea. The lightning that wasn’t cut by his raikiri struck him head on, charging through his body and leaving his nerves screaming in pain.
Worst of all, his right hand was out of commission, which meant he wouldn’t be able to use Chidori.
There was still one heart to destroy if he was going to win this fight, and he was running out of resources and chakra, fast. Winning was going to take a stroke of genius.
Thankfully, while Kakuzu had countless lives to keep him going, Kakashi had that much needed genius. All he had to do was think up the perfect plan and implement it before he ran out of chakra.
“You fought well,” Kakuzu continued, ignoring the situation they were both in and inflating his ego as if he’d already won the battle. “I’m rather impressed. No one else has ever been able to destroy this many of my hearts before. I’ll have to do some harvesting once i’m finished here with you.”
            Harvesting
Shiver’s ran down Kakashi’s spin as he thought about all of the people who had died to supply Kakuzu with those hearts.
If he failed here today, more lives would be lost. More pointless death would occur because of one person’s selfish intentions.
He couldn’t allow that to happen. No matter what it cost, he knew he had to put an end to Kakuzu’s life here and now.
“Oh,” he cringed as an idea struck him. There was one technique he could use that was certain to put an end to this fight, but it was his least favorite technique. One of the few techniques that existed in the world that he actively hated.
“Does that mean you’re giving up?” Kakuzu smirked, but the smile quickly vanished from his face as Kakashi straightened himself and drew in a deep, calming breath. “Whatever you plan on doing, it won’t be enough.”
‘It will be,’ Kakashi thought as he focused on the little amount of chakra he had left. ‘it has to be enough.’
Relaxing his muscles he zeroed in on the inner gates, tucked away deep inside of his body. The gates weren’t his technique, and even if he liked them and wanted to make more use of them he never had managed to figure them out as well as Gai or even Lee, but he’d learned enough.
Eight gates would be over kill for an opponent like Kakuzu. Even seven or six would be pushing it. If he had the ability he’d aim for opening five gates to ensure victory, but that wasn’t an option. His limit was two, and that was going to have to be enough.
“Gate of healing,” his focused turned to the right hemisphere of his brain where the gate sat waiting for him to kick down the door. “Open!”
The gate burst open, and with it a surge of energy rushed through him. That deep, heavy exhaustion that had been weighing down on him just seconds before vanished as the gate’s power washed over him. With a brand-new burst of energy, and a boost to his strength, he was ready to take on his opponent one final time.
He just needed to make sure he hit his target.
            “This is n-“
Charging forward, Kakashi appeared directly in front of Kakuzu in an instant. His movements were faster than usual, and he made quick use of that fact to duck down out of the way of Kakuzu’s desperate punch.
            “How the hell!?”
Without a Kunai to use, Kakashi opted for the next best option at his disposal. With similar speed he reached out and wrapped his hand around Kakuzu’s neck, and twirled himself around. With the strength boost that the gate provided him he used the added leverage of his turn to lift Kakuzu off the ground and chucked him straight into the nearest tree.
With a bone crushing crunch Kakuzu collided with the tree. If Kakashi had left him alone at that point he would have crumpled to the ground where he’d no doubt recover himself as quickly as he could.
Kakashi didn’t give him the opportunity.
Charging forward, he pulled his left arm back and thrust forward just as he came to a stop directly in front of Kakuzu. The sounds that followed his fist crashing into Kakuzu’s chest was something he’d only ever heard when fighting alongside Gai.
It was the sound of bones caving under the force of his hit, and with it came the cave of Kakuzu’s chest inward. If Kakashi was being honest with himself, it was rather disgusting in his opinion, the feeling of bones caving under his fist. Which was surprising, considering his signature technique was one that drove his hand straight through his opponent’s chest.
“Sorry,” he whispered, surprised by his ability to feel pity even when he was facing off against someone so ruthless. “It would have been more effective if I’d been able to use my right hand, but well…that wasn’t an option.”
Kakuzu opened his mouth to speak, but all that came out was a flood of blood pouring down his mouth.
“Gai’s a lot better at this than I am,” pulling his hand out of Kakuzu’s chest he took a step back and watched as the man crumpled to the ground in front of him, blood pouring out of his mouth onto the ground. “But he’s right. The gates can be useful at times.”
Though, he wasn’t sure if he wanted to ever admit that to his friend. That might encourage him to use them more often, and even if unlocking the second gate had helped him put an end to this fight he still wasn’t fond of them.
Beneath him Kakuzu sputtered, spraying blood across the ground while staring up at Kakashi with an expression that he knew all too well. One he’d seen from countless opponents over the years when they realized that against all odds, they’d lost.
Releasing his breath, he felt the energy of the second gate leaving his body in one giant wave, and with its escape that crushing weight of exhaustion returned tenfold. “Damn,” he cringed, his knees buckling under him.
Expecting to hit the ground, he was surprised when instead his body collided with something soft and warm instead. A body, but who’s he couldn’t tell. An attempt was made to open his eyes, but the exhaustion was too heavy.
So instead, he relied on his most Reliable sense and sniffed the air around him.
            Lavender and hints of pine.
            “Tenzo.”
“Sorry we’re late,” his friends soft, calm voice reached his ears, and with it Kakashi felt every muscle that had tightened in his battle loosening until his entire body completely relaxed. “Shikamaru, Ino and Choji told us you were in need of some help so we headed right over, but it seems you’ve dealt with everything yourself.”
“Jeez, Sensei,” there was a note of regret in Naruto’s usually cheerful voice. “I thought we were going to be saving you, but it looks like you took away all the fun.”
            “Sorry.”
“I didn’t even get to show off my new Jutsu,” he continued, ignoring Kakashi’s muttered apology. “And I worked really hard on it, believe it!”
“You can try it out in the next fight,” Tenzo shifted himself so that Kakashi was laying comfortably against his back. “I need to get him to the hospital. Naruto, Sai, can I trust you three to get the body back to Konoha?”
“Of course,” Sai answered in his usually calm tone.
“We’ll take care of it, Captain Yamato,” Naruto confirmed, the cheer returning to his voice. “And as soon as we get back to Konoha we’ll come visit Kakashi-sensei in the hospital.”
“You can pick up food on the way,” Tenzo bend down, and Kakashi’s body fell with his movements. “Sakura, you’re with me. I need you to do what you can on our way back to Konoha.”:
“I’ll make sure Sensei stays alive until we get back, don’t worry.” Following her words, Kakashi could feel a warm chakra pressing against his back. Sakura’s healing did little to alleviate the chakra exhaustion, but almost instantly he could feel his wounds beginning to heal under her careful attention.
“Good, then let’s be on our way.” Feeling his friends’ arms wrapping around his legs, securing them to his side, Kakashi couldn’t help but chuckle even as his body protested the unexpected response.
“Finally, your turn to carry me, huh Tenzo?”
“It had to happen at some point, Senpai.”
“Don’t call me Senpai.” He whispered, the exhaustion pulling him toward unconsciousness slowly.
            “Don’t call me Tenzo.”
Another small laugh escaped his lips as he succumbed to his exhaustion and faded out of consciousness.

it's paradoxical but i love in a video game where you do not feel the least bit good about what you're doing. i mean there are times where you're like "god these characters are so stupid please just give me the dialogue options to avoid this" and that's not fun, and i guess ymmv on what you consider falling into those categories, but i mean like. when you know the fate you're walking is inevitable you cannot put down the sword you have no choice but to continue walking even though you desperately want to stop. it's always a good narrative and imo games portray it better than any other

Story Prompt 102
Circling the chair, a tense standoff unfolded between two contrasting figures. One, with an aura of mischief, stood boldly, while the other, marked by recent turmoil, faced them with a mix of defiance and curiosity.
"Come on, join the fun," the mischievous one urged with a playful grin. "Let's stir things up a bit."
The other shook their head adamantly, refusing to be swayed. "I won't be a part of your reckless schemes."
But the mischievous one persisted, undeterred by the rejection. "You can't deny there's a spark between us. Why not embrace it?"
As they bantered back and forth, the tension crackled, reaching a crescendo with the sudden intrusion of a radio broadcast. Its announcement labeled one of them as a fugitive, casting a shadow of suspicion over their interaction.
Curses escaped the accused's lips as their secret was laid bare. The mischievous one couldn't help but feel a surge of intrigue, wondering what secrets lay hidden beneath the surface.
"I got too close to something I shouldn't have," the accused confessed, their voice laced with desperation. "I've been on the run for months."
Moved by their vulnerability, the mischievous one approached cautiously, sensing an opportunity amidst the chaos. As they drew nearer, a forbidden attraction simmered beneath the surface, threatening to ignite.
"What if we took them down together?" the accused proposed, a glimmer of hope in their eyes. "And then you can decide if you want to be the hero."
The mischievous one chuckled, seeing through the facade with ease. "You got yourself caught on purpose, didn't you?"
Caught off guard, the accused hesitated before admitting the truth. "Maybe," they conceded, a hint of mischief dancing in their gaze.
