Over This Whole ‘School’ Thing

Dick leans on the railing of the school building's roof as he watches the building the deal’s about to go down in. It’s an abnormally quiet night, which is great, since it’s the first night he’s getting to take Danny out on patrol with him since he joined the bat clan.

It was pretty obvious that Danny had suspected them of being the bat clan the moment Masters dropped him on their porch, and finally getting confirmation that he was in the know and actually wanted to help was probably the best thing of Dick’s year.

Now, waiting on the Joker’s goons to show up for a deal, he’s glad he’s getting the chance to hang out with his newest brother(excepting Oracle on the comms, of course.). It was almost relaxing just sitting together on a quiet stakeout, and listening to the noises of Gotham and the occasional siren wailing in the distance.

“You know, I never actually liked school.”

Dick jumps when Danny finally starts a conversation. He’s been very quiet the entire time and it was almost startling how quickly he moved from dead silence to noise. It was almost a surprise that he decided to start a conversation at all, given how quiet he’d been since coming to the manor. Alfred is probably the only one he talks with regularly, now that he thinks about it.

“How so?” Dick asks hesitantly. God knows that he had a pretty rough time in school too, so he may not be the best person to talk with about the subject. “I thought Masters said your schooling was just fine? Your records didn’t say anything either.” Dick trails off a bit when Danny flinches at the mention of Masters. It’s not the first time he’s acted hesitant about the man, but nobody has been able to figure out the mystery or get any information about him yet.

“I wasn’t exactly popular, you know? Lotta bullies in small town schools, and my life outside school kinda kept bleeding over into class time. Sucked hardcore.”

That was new. Danny hasn’t really talked about his school experience before now, but it could be where they are at the moment prompting this, Dick thinks as he gazes out over the run-down neighborhood they’re watching.

“I wasn’t exactly ‘mister popular’ back then, myself.” He starts warily, smothering his words in fake cheer. “High society kids don’t take well to ‘circus freaks’ stealing their opportunities and invading their school. Couldn’t do much about it either because I didn’t want to tell Bruce I was struggling.” Dick drops a bit of the over-the-top peppy mask as he thinks about it.

“So what did you do about it?” Danny leans over, peering at the older vigilante as he waits for an answer.

“Got tired of it and beat them up after a couple months. They gossiped about it for months and refused to talk to me for a while. It was pretty sweet, actually.” He sighs in contentment at the memory. “Bruce and Alfred were pretty disappointed in me though. Practically grounded me for weeks.”

Dick preened as Danny let out a chuckle.

“Man, I wished my parents cared that much about my education. ‘A Fenton always gets A’s. Or in your Dad’s case B-‘s.’ was something Mom always said.” Danny seems to droop as he thinks of his parents. It’s obvious something happened there, but he’d usually shut down immediately if anyone brought them up.

“On top of the ‘out of school’ activities taking over my life, this dickhead named Dash made it his personal mission to ruin my day every time we interacted.” Dick busts out laughing as Danny considers what he said, before freezing and slapping his hands over his face. “Ancients, I didn't even think of that- sorry Dick. He was definitely an asshat though. Real piece of work, that one!” Danny chirped mock-cheerfully. “Did you know that if you’re really flexible you can fit in a half size locker?”

Dick freezes at the sudden question. “Uh… No?” He replies warily. The idea of someone being inside a locker that small physically pained him, and he really didn’t want to think about why Danny would know that.

Why anyone would shove his little brother into a locker.

He pushed the fear and guilt boiling in his gut down and turned to Danny with a smile. “How would you feel about online classes?”

Danny whips his head around to stare at Dick like he grew a second head. “Online?” He asks tentatively, rubbing a hand over the back of his neck.

“Online.” Dick agrees quietly.

Danny stares out over the dreary scenery and the sun just starting to shine light over the edge of the horizon. ‘The only time you can see it through the smog’ Dick muses as Danny thinks about his offer.

“I think I would like online school. It might help.” Danny admits in a quiet voice, hands gripping the railing almost painfully tight(For a second Dick thought he saw the metal give a big, but that must have been a trick of the light. Danny’s blood tests didn’t have the meta gene.). “And thank you… For offering to do that for me I mean.” Danny mumbles.

“Of course! What are older siblings for!” Dick beams at him, only faltering a little at the well concealed hurt in Danny’s face. It was pretty obvious that he was just about to shut down the conversation completely, when the batcom went off. Perfect timing.

Dick waves the com in Danny’s direction. “Looks like our clown friend got picked up across town on his way here.” Danny glances up in confusion as Dick hops off the railing he had been sitting on. “You want to race back?”

Danny visibly perked up as he hopped over the railing and pulled his grapple out of his belt pocket. He smirked Devilishly and took off before Dick could even hop over the railing.

“Get back here! I never said start!” Dick yelled out after Danny as they sped across the rooftop and swung between buildings chasing each other back to the cave.

Back home.

Thus, if he were to be a dog, I can imagine him as a chihuahua. Instead of the Ric situation happening after KGBeast shot Dick, Dick died for a few seconds but came back because of how much previous exposure he's had to ghosts, the Lazarus Pits, death magic, and multiple gods/demigods. All of this combined caused him to become a halfa. It was a steep learning curve, but he managed to overcome it because of all of his connections.

He goes on a flight by himself in his ghost form one night and runs into Danny, who had been moonlighting as a fortune teller. Neither figure out the other's a halfa until a ghost cat burglar tries to steal from Danny.

Aaaah… Oh no, not more characters that I don’t invest myself in whatsoever… x’D Sorry but I had no time to get attached to them, so they disappeared from my brain right after Ch.0 and when the NDA detectives came into the fray x’D

Okay then, let me try to pull some things out with what little I know about them.

Zilch Alexander (real)

Like a sick animal, he prefers to be alone if he’s not feeling well to not trouble anyone else

He tends to brush the fur of his clothes as a distraction from the ickiness that he feels

He loves snuggling with his animal friends who usually don’t leave his side if he feels poorly. Especially his dogs.

He wears some of his furry scarves as part of his sickly disheveled appearance.

The ears on his hat get droopy if he feels ill.

If he has a caretaker he tends to behave like an animal with them if he’s delirious from fever. Not in a weird way, but he becomes very affectionate and likes nuzzling his face into soft places and into other people if he uses them as a pillow.

If he’s hot sometimes he sticks his tongue out when panting. (Like a dog lol)

He wears multiple furry jackets if he’s cold (though sadly this just makes his fever worse…)

If he has a cold, he has very peculiar sneezes. He doesn’t say anything out-loud, rather his sneezes are similar to a animal’s and it’s very fitful. (sadly this causes snot to go everywhere unless he covers his nose with his sleeve or a tissue)

Melami Goldmine

She’s actually very good at taking care of herself.

Even while ill she still wants to look her best. She cannot afford to look so poorly. So she wears her best outfit even if she’s not well.

Sadly this backfires when she sneezes or coughs, causing the outfit to get dirty with unwanted bodily fluids. How revolting.

So to remedy this issue, she gets the prettiest and silkiest set of nightwear she can wear at times like these.

She makes sure she has her favorite teas and coffee brands if she ever has a sore throat.

She has quality bath salts if she wants to relax and help her nose feel unstuffed.

If she has a caretaker she acts like a bit of a spoiled diva. Over exagerating her condition on purpose so her caretaker pays more attention to her. (shes needy and spoiled)

Making impossible requests and being super picky with how her meals are arranged.

(Not a sick headcanon, but I think Melami makes a very ideal caretaker. Especially when Yuma didn’t feel well. She made sure to try to help him, she seemed almost motherly. I honestly wish that Yuma accepted her help and company back to the infirmary. Maybe then she might have survived…)

Pucci Lavmin

Whenever Pucci feels or gets sick, she needs it to be QUIET.

Her ears get even more sensitive to sound if shes not healthy, especially she has a migraine or headache.

Her forte is rendered useless

She sleeps with multiple colorful teddy bears in her bed and tends to snuggle with them. (The pink one is still her favorite.)

She is very prone to ear infections. And the ear infections tend to make her get feverish too.

Shes in a BAD mood if shes ill, so she prefers to not be bothered by anyone else.

But the poor thing can’t get up to help herself due to the immense dizziness and loud ringing in her head, so she does need someone to try to assist her. As much as she may not like or prefer it.

She often cries if her fever gets too high and is super emotional when shes delirious. (A bit of a crybaby)

If shes not feeling too bad, she enjoys having soft piano or very soft classical music playing in the room while she rests. It soothes her spirit.

Aphex Logan

Another one thats usually fairly good at looking after himself.

Due to his rough time growing up in the slums after losing his family, he had to adept to surviving, even tending to himself if he got sick or hurt

Though there are times where it gets very bad, and he can’t handle it alone.

Anyone caring for him may be hard since he doesn’t trust anybody. He needs to truly be at his lowest before he accepts help.

He’s prone mostly to breathing or coughing issues due to the slums having polluted or dirty air.

If he coughs, it’s very NASTY AND SERIOUS. He may even vomit if he coughs too much.

His lungs are very delicate due to growing ip in a filthy enviornment

He tends to have fever dreams of his departed family, causing him to cry in his sleep.

And usually sees whoever cares for him as one of his parents (depending on the caretaker’s gender) in his feverish haze.

Zange Eraser

Typical old man sickness lol

He has a nasty rough and crusty cough that can be heard from a mile away.

If the sickness isn’t too bad he tries to continue his day simply wearing a mask on his face to be propper

But if it’s bad, he stays properly bedridden

In this state his forte can sometimes go haywire

And he unintentionally records things he sees in his fever dreams and he awakens with various odd imagery on his phone.

So he usually doesn’t do any detective work if he feels poorly for this reason.

He makes a lot of bathroom trips in between resting. (at times almost falling over or using the wall as support)

He enjoys watching old BW adventure movies if he’s rendered immobile in bed or on whatever sofa that he rests on.

They usually knock him out not long after.

My beloved best friend of several years, who bought me Minecraft the winter before COVID after I mentioned I hadn’t played since before there were horses, got severely motion sick when playing minecraft for too long.

We were both aware of this, and took breaks or shortened our play sessions accordingly.

However, a few days ago, at the end of one of those sessions when my friend wasn’t feeling well, we traveled through a Nether portal.

“Have you turned off your motion effects? And the camera bobbing?”

My beloved friend, who has been playing this game more consistently for many more years than me, did not know what those were. We navigate to my friend’s accessibility settings and toggle off portal motion effects and camera bobbing.

Lo and behold minecraft is playable for my friend again. Check accessibility settings for every game you play and see what options you have. Do not suffer if you can help it 👍

I get the impression that money was a bit tight on clouds on the horizon in general, what with the uneven time put into the lumity kiss vs the hexsquads fight outside blight manner w/ the infamous cha cha slide, plus background details going wonky (like baloony hunter), but my favourite semi-wonky frames are the closeups on Hunters face when he's talking with Luz about him being a grimwalker.

bc the proportions are just. So funny to me. Why is his nose so long. Why are his eyes in the middle of his face. When did his forehead get so big. What's happening. Did I die. Is this purgatory. I unironically love this bc it reminds me that this show was made by people who were trying their best. And sometimes their best looks the Bunter Vs hexsquad fight in thanks to them and other times it looks like this

GAWIN ACTING KING!!! I already expected to love pisaeng just bc he's played by him but GODDAMN he's exceeding my expectations as a character! I get what you mean about jittirain's love interests, while I do sense some common pathetic-ness between him & khai lol, pisaeng is very mature, healthy & not pushy at all. he's actually a pretty withdrawn love interest compared to the usual ones (I haven't seen vice versa so only talking about khai, sarawat & mork) that are very involved in the main character's life. it's honestly refreshing, and perhaps why I love pisaeng so much? he feels very realistic bc he's honest to himself & his feelings but doesn't make it kawi's problem either which is amazing :)
