When the blue flame fires up on a gas stove, there's more than heat coming off the burner. Researchers at Stanford University found that among the pollutants emitted from stoves is benzene, which is linked to cancer.
Levels of benzene can reach higher than those found in secondhand tobacco smoke and the benzene pollution can spread throughout a home, according to the research.
The findings add to a growing body of scientific evidence showing that emissions within the home are more harmful than gas stove owners have been led to believe. And it comes as stoves have been dragged into the country's ongoing culture wars.

I'm not a fanfic reader, but I stumbled across @feen-feet's Aniline fanfic, based off of @cubewatermelon's excellent webcomic Sleepless Domain. A trans AU of a cameo character from Cube's other webcomic Kiwi Blitz.
The 2nd part is what really got to me. The slow exploration of this reality to show both Ani and Steffi's past and relationship in this universe, and the disarmament of the reader as reality eventually crashes back to Ani. The initial shock of your body no longer being yours, then the slow creeping in of your memories and everything that made you happy fades away. The feeling is unbearable, and Feen creates a perfect outline of these emotions.
It's also what made me attempt to sketch down my self-realization last winter.

Chemistry behind thermos bottles
Dewar benzene, an isomer of benzene, was named after the British physicist and chemist James Dewar in 1867. In the mid-19th century, the structure of benzene was still a mystery. Scientists at that time proposed various possible structural hypotheses based on benzene's empirical molecular formula C6H6, including several from Dewar.
However, Dewar did not consider Dewar benzene to be the correct structure of benzene; he supported the "Kekulé benzene ring" instead. Dewar was dedicated to research in gas liquefaction and low-temperature physics. In 1892, he invented the vacuum-insulated container known as the Dewar flask, which effectively stored liquefied gases. This invention eventually led to the creation of modern-day thermos bottles and insulated cups that we commonly use at home.

Sponge-Like Material Can Absorb Toxic Chemicals From the Air
The new material can capture small quantities of benzene, a harmful pollutant, from the air while using less energy than previous materials
A new material that can remove harmful substances from the air was created by scientists at the University of Limerick in Ireland.
According to the researchers, the substance uses far less energy than current materials and can capture trace levels of the harmful pollutant benzene from the air.
The researchers believe the sponge-like porous material might revolutionize the search for clean air and make a substantial contribution to the fight against climate change.
