Jaune: Ruby, I couldn't save Pyrrha. I couldn't save Penny. Oscar. Alyx.

Ruby: Wait, you did save Oscar.

Jaune: Not before Emerald.

Jaune: I’m just saying, I want to live to see my family again. So I need to get more experience and training to become stronger because obviously the roles I have are not a good fit for me.

Weiss: You let him go!!?

Ruby: Absolutely.

Yang: Why?

Ruby: I mean I understand. I thought I took L’s but him, nope.

Blake: But Ruby-

Ruby; Blake. He cheated Beacon. He almost dies multiple times. Every girl he meets either dies or hoes him in some way. And he was trapped on an island for years. Okay? He’s an uncle to a lesbian couple's son. He has a family who he may not be on good terms with. Also, in theory, didn’t Raven burn down the village him and his family used to go to? Probably the last good memory he had of his family.

Qrow: Oh shit she did.

Ruby: Oh my god. How was Raven not on his kill list along with Cinder?

Qrow: Yeah, we might not need to avoid telling him.

Ruby: All I’m saying is the guy has been through hell by himself. I say let him breathe.

Weiss: Are you serious?!

Ruby: Bitch don’t be mad at me! You only started liking him cause you were simp for the Rusted Knight. Hell, didn’t he save you like three times either from embarrassment or death? And didn’t you start off as immature as you thought he was?

In fact, you two halfway almost left us to fight a giant grimm. Let Jaune face a maiden by himself, knowing his skill level is average.

Nora: Ruby that was months ago. Get over it.

Ruby: Alright, so where were you in the Cardin situation? Where were you during the Pyrrha situation? In fact how come you two were the first out when Neo showed up.?

Nora: Um.

Yang: In fact, isn’t Jaune kind of the one who saved your relationship by talking with Ren?

Ren: Um.

Ruby: Exactly. Like I said Sakura, you can’t choose to be a good team member when you want to be. So be a good girl and stay with your Sasuke.

Oscar: Well Aura Amplification is more than just healing it increases other people's abilities.

Ruby: Oh really. Okay, Oscar, I have one question. Who here now needs Jaune to help amplify their abilities?

Ruby: Mind you Ren is able to cover multiple people without Jaune’s help now. And Weiss barely needs healing either. So who?

Oscar: … Nobody.

Ruby: NOBODY. So let Jaune use his semblance for him. He needs it more than us. Maybe it has multiple purposes that we don’t know about.

Yang: But Ruby he’s not built like us.

Ruby: Damn straight. Look. Let’s just give Jaune some space. Let him readjust back to Remnant. And let him find his strength. Alright? Now if you excuse me I need to find someone.

Ruby: Raven. She was the last one to see my mom so I need to hear her side of the story of what happened. It may end this stupid family feud we got. Later.*leaves*

How fast does Jaune figure out Yang likes Blake and Blake likes Yang? He has experience watching at least one sister be a useless lesbian before, because I refuse to believe that any arc isn't a bit useless when it comes to love. So... How does he proceed with the mess that I'd his sister and her bi disaster girlfriend?

See and that’s the thing isn’t it? How long does it take for Jaune’s personal experience with wlw sisters being useless to overpower his natural Jaune tendencies?

I believe that it’s around the dance (coincidentally around when he realizes oh fuck I actually am in love with Pyrrha Nikos) and he looks up at Yang on the balcony pining over Blake and he just thinks to himself “Looks like ALL Arcs are pretty bad at romance.”

He has trouble remembering sometimes that Yang ISNT an Arc. He’s a little confused but he’s got the spirit

Mostly he works off of the standard set by Terra and Saphron, that they’ll work themselves out eventually. Especially since Blake seems to have her romance stuff worked out, it’s just personal trauma that’s tripping her up

Funnily enough, my first impression of RWBY was "An asexual lesbian and her three bisexual friends go to college to learn how to fight monsters".

I don't know how to describe it, Ruby Rose just struck me as asexual from day 1 and after seeing her interactions with all the boys and girls in Volume 1 I just could NOT see her being attracted to a boy. Like, at all. The way she interacted with the gals was just different.

Also, I know most people say Weiss is a "useless lesbian", or that her crush on Neptune was just her trying to force herself to be heterosexual, but as an aromantic individual who has only ever experienced occasional sexual attraction to women, she always seemed pretty unashamed of her attraction to girls to me, and her attraction to Neptune felt pretty genuine. I mean, if anything, I'd argue she's probably bisexual, but with a preference for girls. Her sister is definitely gay, though.

Blake is bisexual. That is canon.

I thought Yang was bi at first, and I was kinda on the fence regarding how canonical her being a lesbian was, but then Volume 8 Chapter 12 happened, and her reaction to Ambrosius kinda sealed it for me that she's a lesbian. (Speaking of, Ambrosius confirmed for me that I do not experience any attraction to men. Quite the opposite, in fact.)

Now, as for the fifth member of Team RWBY, most people say that Penny's a lesbian, but even though she's only ever shown ambiguous attraction towards Ruby, I headcanon her as pansexual because "Pansexual Penny Polendina" is a fun alliteration and literally no other reason.

I recall way back when Weiss was jokingly called a "useless lesbian" because of a quip made during a RTX panel. Turns outs it was Blake and Yang who were the useless lesbians all along. Seriously they serve no purpose besides shipping after their arcs ended in V6. Weiss is the straightest on the team. The only girl showing interest in Jaune. Unless they're also setting up rosegarden in the future.

Weiss actually showed (mutual) interest in Neptune, first. Jaune wasn't even a blip on the radar until Vol 5, and then they dropped the opportunity to have her develop interest in Jaune until vol 9 where it comes out of thin air when he magically ages up. it makes Weiss look so shallow.

Eh i don't see there really being any development between rosegarden. besides the fact that Ruby and Oscar haven't seen each other for two volumes, (which i know is only been a few hours inverse but shshhhh)

Also, while Ruby accounted for Yang being the most useless gay mess in all of Remnant, she did not account for Blake being an obvious bi disaster and that the predictability of their summer romance was through the frickin roof.

Also, just in general, love when it’s pointed out that Yang is friendly and easy going but super hard to get a deep read on because she doesn’t want you to.

so i’ve been watching rwby

and as I’ve been doing so I’ve been posting reactions to my friends. After S5, S6, and S7, in particular, I had a lot of thoughts and opinions. More under the cut. I’m going to write fic aren’t i?

Season 5:

1. Where is the first/autumn relic?! Like, we've established that Ozpin hid it well, yet for some reason it doesn't feel like that's the whole story - given where the relic was hidden this time, in some sort of n dimentional desert (where, if you looked closely you could see similar ##chemtrails - could people just walk through that desert to get to all of them? 2. I find it hilarious that Weiss just got out of Atlas only to go back, I'm very curious as to what sort of ~~damage this reveals about her in the coming seasons, but I'm also very intrigued by how reintroducing her to her father with the rest of team RWBY will shift/alter the narrative of powerlessness that he seems t be pushing toward her. I'm esp. intrigued as to what his reaction will be to Blake (as he seems very anti-faunus). 3. WHAT DOES THIS ALL MEAN FOR THE #YANGST. 4. The show has been pretty constantly showing us that most of Ruby and Yang's family seems like chill folks, but the ##absentmother trope is strong here. Given that it seems like only Blake has a mom, does Blake's mom adopt everyone? 5. Blake having a fairly functional nuclear family is fascinating to me, because it makes a lot of her choices seem way more political (at a very young age) as opposed to just a kid who got in over her head with a boy who was a bit older. I'd love to know more about this. 6. as a multishipper, I hurt all over.

Season 6:

Item the FIRST: Weiss barely making it out of Atlas only to be dragged, albeit somewhat willingly back to the source of all of her ~ trauma & family drama ~ I am curious to see how this plays out and generally hope that Weiss somehow stabs her shitty dad and Draco Malfoy rip off brother while being reunited with her 100% Cooler Than U sister. Also that Cooler Than U sister works on the unresolved sexual tension she CLEARLY had with Qrow.

Item the SECOND: The show's thoughtful handling of Qrow's alcoholism and Ruby's gentle efforts to push toward sobriety without like being annoyingly moralistic about it. It could have been handled so differently and I really, really enjoyed that it was handled in the way it was.

Item the THIRD: Weiss' new red scarf. adsfajshfaksdjfhthatsgayweissaksdfhaksdjfh

Item the FOURTH: The various Poor Life Choices Salem made during our brief sojourn to the Department of Backstory. Also Jinn is amazing let's keep her around. She can join Jaune, Ren and Nora as a 4th member of their team and just hilariously be naked all the time. 10/10 would watch for hijinks adventures.

Item the FIFTH:  Ozpin sulking that he got all his relationship drama put on main like that

Item the SIXTH: Jaune's gay sister and sister-in-law and their baby and and and and (idk I just loved this).

Item the SEVENTH: BLAKE AND YANG HELD HANDS AND MURDERED THEIR TRAUMA TOGETHER PRAISE JESUS AND CAN I GET A HALLELUJAH? NOW KISS.

Item the EIGHTH: My multishipper ass saw that moment between Weiss and Yang when they were stuck in the basement and I'd just like to say I would be happy to see that too.

Season 7:  Item the First: Weiss has a mother. Which we all logically knew she did but that scene with her in Jacques' office was just... a lot. Also raised some very interesting questions. When will Weiss and Ruby bond over alcoholic parental figures, I ask you. On this front, I am also now supremely, supremely curious about Winter's relationship with her mother. 

Item the Second: Leftist Weiss. Well we all knew that Weiss wouldn't have voted for her dad anyway, but I think the tension between Weiss's clear orientation toward helping people and government for good and her father/sister's appealing to/embodying other forms of authority (corporate/military). This also raises an interesting point of contention between Weiss and Winter, as Winter's sort of this embodiment of what I'd maybe call a conscientious soldier – where she’s clearly in possession of independent thoughts and opinions, yet also seems to want to appeal to a higher authority whenever she feels conflicted (e.g. “Ironwood is making the hard decisions so we don’t have to.”). This actually draws a very stark line between Winter and Weiss – as Weiss has always been a freer thinker, who can and does think for herself and operate from her own moral compass. The moment at the end of the season between Weiss and Winter was just so delicious as I hope (HOPE HOPE) that they’re setting up for a ~~moment of clarity~ for Winter where she has to make a decision on her own that defies orders in some way for the greater good that Weiss can see so easily. (Also, please, my good gay sisters: Hug. It. Out.)

Item the Third: Leftist Bees (well really, leftist Yang, Blake was always a revolutionary). I absolutely loved the Everyone Is Lying moments in this season, and I do hate that the Bees were the ones caught out in it first. Black and Yang telling Robyn the truth also struck me as something that the pair of them would do anyway – the only other character I could see possibly slipping and letting info get to Robyn is Weiss, but I also got the sense that Weiss understood the politics of the situation better than anyone else and because of this was playing it pretty close to the vest. The Bee’s decision really jives with their partnership. As did getting to watch them fight together so much this season, they’re evolving together, and seeing them fight in tandem is a delight.

Item the Fourth: Splitting whiterose. I like Penny. I actually love Penny. I love Penny and Roby’s dynamic. And their friendship. And how ridiculous they are. But it really struck me that how the whiterose partnership kept on getting split until the final fight against the Spice Force Five. I’m sure there’s a reason for this but I don’t like it and I won’t hear it or respond to it.

Item the Fifth: The Not Spice Girls/Spice Force Five. Love these idiots, but they’re all cops. Marrow is the most delightful of them and seems like he’s about to go on a journey similar to Winter, Harriet sucks a lot, Clover was a delightful almost rip but also mmmwhatchusay. I sort of hated the juxtaposition between team RWBY and them, with the ‘just following orders’ mentality and the lack of friendship/cohesion between these guys. I guess now Winter can join them and they so they can have their Posh Spice.

Item the Sixth: Schneewood Forest. I feel like I could write a whole elaborate backstory with these two. There’s something there – the unstoppable force meets immovable object of it, plus the idea of someone who challenges Winter’s entire belief structure just by being an okay person ~with a merry band of queers~. I feel a lot of things. I want to explore this. Stop me I am in a PhD program. 

Item the Seventh: The Tinman’s Heart. Having read all of the Wizard of Oz books, as well as the Wicked series, I actually appreciate that this series is taking nods from both sources for these characters. James’s decisions are … not great but I can see his logic – well right up until the part where he shoots poor Oscar. That was just rude. Also I do love watching him fight because he’s so very, very good.

Item the Seventh: Bisexual Bobs. How very Bi of you Blake. And how useless lesbian of Yang to be all flustered about it. Please kiss.

You wouldn’t believe how many stories on my AO3 actually began as an idea for my BBB story, and then became something else when I didn’t think I could either make the story work, or hit the required minimum for the BBB collaboration.  I’ve never written anything this long before, and it was a real challenge to get this piece finished, but I’m actually fairly proud of the finished story.

Well if you think of it this way. What was the only thing Yang wanted when she woke up? Her partner next to her.

In this AU Yang has multiple battle partners. From Blake to Bakugou, to Kirishima to Kyouka to Momo and to Ruby herself. 

Kyouka has in this AU been by Yang’s side since she lost her arm. It was no wonder they’d grow close and get together first in the AU. 

That doesn’t stop Yang from having feelings for Blake, or Blake working her damnedest to make it up. Yang in the end is just glad she came back. That she’s safe. 

In the end Kyouka does care about Blake and the two talk about sharing Yang.

I actually reblogged a post below of headcanons I have for RWBY! But I'm gonna go off anyways I love talkin about this shit--

I haven't thought quite as much about JNPR bc I'm more invested in RWBY (plus my headcanons for JNPR have changed a lot) buuuut? (These are all also based on ships I like and how I interpret some of the show, so obviously it's all just my opinion.)

Jaune - bi/demi • I like to think he hasn't quite figured out his attraction to more than girls yet and has been a lot more closed off to romance unless he's formed a really close bond.

Nora - pan?? • I'm not 100% sure, I really only ship her with Ren romantically, I also really like NB Ren so.

Pyrrha - pan • I mean come on. I can't see her as anything but pan akfjdhdh

Ren - pan/ace • I dunno, it just seems self explanatory and like pan/ace fits him really well!

Yang - demi/lesbian • I've aaaaalways headcanoned her as a lesbian, but I dunno why I never thought of demisexual until I saw the post I reblogged a ways down. Like!! It seems so obvious now!!! Hello!!!!!!!

Blake - demi/bi • pretty much the same as Yang, I've also always headcanoned Blake as bi and I think demisexual fits her really well too.

Weiss - changes on a daily I SWEAR • I don't 100% know what I see her as? One day it'll be a useless lesbian and the next it'll be heteroflexible. I ship her with a lot of characters too so it's just everywhere. Lately though my love for Sunflakes has come back full force as my favourite Weiss ship so currently I probably see her as heteroflexible.

Ruby - aro/ace • I had a lot to say about her so I saved her for last oops. BUT I see her as aromantic and asexual, and not in the "she's aro/ace cause she's too innocent/ignorant/young/naive" kind of way cause that's dumb and undermines asexuality and why people identify as such. Ruby isn't ignorant or naive when it comes to romance, she knows what it is. She can confirm romantic feelings without a vocal question. (Again, this is others' interpretation as well as my own) She knows what romance looks like, and she's still not interested. Yeah, it could be because she's more focused on, y'know, saving the world and who knows! Maybe towards the end of the series she'll be romantically involved with someone. But for me personally, I don't see it happening. I like to think she tried to be, back towards the beginning of the series (which also ties in to this post about her having a crush on Emerald.) I think about it like this: as soon as she set foot on campus at Beacon, she was pegged as different from her classmates. Her sister thought everyone was gonna think Ruby was the bees knees, and Weiss immediately knew she was younger by a simple glance. I think she knew from the start she'd stick out like a sore thumb, so maybe she tried to test the waters with romance back then. Everyone else around her seemed to be involved with it somehow: Ren and Nora's obvious crush on him, Pyrrha pining for Jaune, Jaune's fruitless attempts to woo Weiss, Neptune being. Neptune, Sun and Blake seeming to have a thing, and Yang also realizing she may have feelings for her partner. Romance! Romance everywhere! And then you have Ruby, who came to Beacon two years early and maybe wanted to "fit in" a bit more cause she wants to be a normal girl with normal knees. Maybe her early exploration of her sexuality was a bit on the naive side (cause come on, we've all been there in some way. not all of us know how we identify right away) and she crushed on Emerald, partially because she really liked her, and maybe partially because it's what everyone else was doing too. She didn't want to stick out any more than she already did. But I think as time went on and she matured, she realized trying to force herself to fit in was naive, it's just not her thing, and her classmates treated her like an equal for the most part anyways. I think it hit her that "oh hey, it's okay to not be in to this, who cares if others are I'm fine the way I am."

Wow that got long sorry. TL;DR I stan aro/ace Ruby and you can pry this headcanon from my cold dead fingers. It's also why I waver on shipping her with anyone and for the most part don't at all. Sometimes ships with her seem cute? But yeah!

When Stevie received the text from her sister, she groaned, actually groaned, out loud.

Ali: Done with the piece. We’ll do a fitting tn.

Followed immediately by a second text (because Ali knows her sister):

Ali: Don’t even THINK ab bailing!! My grade depends on this and u.

And another text, which was just:

Ali: <3

So there went her Thursday evening.

She had only just let herself into the house when she heard Ali yell her name from upstairs.

“I’m coming,” she called back with none of the same fervor, and trudged up the stairs.

Thing was. Stevie liked supporting her sister and loved all her designs. But the last time she agreed to do a fitting for her, she had ended up with three pinpricks in her ribs, hair snagged in the back zip of a dress (Ali ended up having to cut it free), and her favorite bra snagged and ruined.

The time before that, she’d ended up in a fashion show she never agreed to be part of.

At the top of the stairs, Ali grabbed her by the wrist and dragged her into her room, clearly of the opinion that she wasn’t moving fast enough by herself. She shut the door behind them and gestured dramatically to the outfit, draped over a mannequin in the center of the room.

“Voila,” she announced, clapping her hands together.

“Dress?”

“Skirt and corset combo. I’m re-envisioning the modern wedding ensemble.”

“It’s nice.” Stevie reached out and ran her fingers over the layers of frothy ivory tulle. “The top looks a little too small for me, though.”

“You always say that.”

“It’s always true,” Stevie shot back.

“Stop. My stuff always looks good on you. Hurry up and strip; let’s get this on you.”

Stevie stripped down to her underwear without pursuing the argument. She stepped into the skirt and eased it over her hips. She reached for the corseted top. “Seems uncomfortable,” she commented, flexing it in her hands. The boning that ran through it was stiff and unyielding.

“Beauty is pain,” Ali sniped. She pulled apart the endless criss-crossing of laces and lifted the whole thing over Stevie’s head. She settled it into place and began to tighten the laces, hard.

“Shit,” Stevie gasped as Ali yanked them closed. Her hands scrabbled over the fabric in a useless attempt to create more space for herself inside of it. “Too tight, too small. I told you it would be. Your pieces are always so fucking tight for me.”

“It’s a corset — it’s supposed to be tight.” Alison said. She reached the hem and began to tie off the laces. “Now stop whining because I think this is actually gonna look amazing on you.”

“Seriously, are you sure you got my measurements right? This feels—“

“Of course I did.”

“Seriously, I can’t breathe.”

“Don’t be dramatic. You probably gained weight, that’s all.”

“You shut your mouth.”

“Beer isn’t calorie-free, you know. And you’ve been letting Blake buy you an awful lot of them—“

“Oh fuck off, Ali!”

Ali let go of the laces and placed her hands on her hips indignantly. “Look, are you dating him or not?” she demanded. “I’m not blind, you know.”

“We’re just friends—“

“I thought he was gay, but I feel like you two—”

“He’s bi.”

“Okay then, so I’ll ask again: Are you dating him?”

“We. Are. Just. Friends.“

“With benefits,” Ali suggested.

Stevie paused. “...With benefits,” she admitted grudgingly.

Ali whooped triumphantly. “I think it’s cool. Blake is a nice guy, and he dresses better than any man I know. And he’s cute. And Mom likes him.” She paused. “Does Mom know?”

“No,” Stevie snapped, “and if you tell her, I will kill you personally. I will put you in this corset and tighten it until you’ve suffocated.”

Ali rolled her eyes, unimpressed. And then she smiled. “I’ll just tell Mom that this piece is for your wedding. She’ll figure out the who and the why soon enough.”

She ducked as Stevie threw a pillow at her head.
