Lots of people have told me I should self publish, but I think I still want to try to go through traditionally publishing my book first. I've got a finished manuscript, so how do I go about querying agents to find the best fit?
Pitching your manuscript to literary agents is a length process that requires lots of dedication, and a great deal of research. To get the most out of your querying, you definitely need to go in prepared.
We've put together this walk through for how to pitch your novel to literary agents, including some helpful do's and don'ts at the link below!

Drugs, Delusions, and Schizophrenia
I've been working on the final draft of a book proposal this summer following the completion of the second draft of my memoir, Over the Edge: Drugs, Delusions, and Schizophrenia. While revamping my audience and comparative titles sections, I realized I was missing a drug memoir which was a huge oversight on my part. I'm now reading Tweak: Growing Up on Methamphetamines, and it's going quick! Although some of the language is annoying (he keeps saying, "you know?", and repeating things three times like, I was thinking, thinking, thinking), it's otherwise been a fun and enjoyable read.
The book proposal is over 20,000 words which is about 50-55 memoir-sized pages, and I can't wait to finish! I had no idea this would take the whole summer!

What is a Book Proposal? Main Elements for Pitching a Book to Publishers
A book proposal is a formal document that authors create to pitch their book idea to literary agents or publishers. It serves as a comprehensive outline or business plan for the book, providing publishers with the necessary information to evaluate its market potential, target audience, and commercial viability. A well-crafted book proposal showcases the author’s writing skills, expertise on the subject matter, and the book’s unique selling points.

No Platform Required: When Publishers Break Their Own "Rules"
No Platform Required: When Publishers Break Their Own “Rules”
Everyday, I get a newsletter from Publisher’s Marketplace reporting the major book deals that have been signed by agents and editors. It’s an absolutely essential tool for editors and publishers; I read it religiously and love seeing the new deals that come through (sometimes with people I know IRL!).  Usually, the newsletter recaps go like this: NYT-bestselling author with appearances on GMA,…

So pretty early on in The Fires of Heaven, our boy Mat hands a necklace to one of the Maidens to impress her, not realizing that giving a gift like that as a close as a dude can come in Aiel culture to proposing. Which means. This guy. Has not one but TWO accidental proposals under his belt. Incredible writing decision, no notes, RJ really said “I will explore cultural differences by making Matrim Cauthon get accidentally engaged as many times as possible” and that was the best possible choice

I've been reading RMB today and with the trailer coming out the other day we have a much clearer idea of how part 1 is going to go and its got me thinking about how they're gonna adapt the book scenes to fit with the Debling plot.
So what if in Ep 4 Debling proposes to Pen towards the start of the episode and that's why in the Pen/Portia clip in the trailer Pen's eyes look like she thinks she's making a mistake/she's panicking and Portia's reassuring her with "you've done so well, what more could you want?"
Then at the end of the episode we have the carriage scene and the episode ends with the carriage arriving at the Featherington house and Colin ALSO proposes like "forget him, marry me". It would make such a good cliffhanger for the mid-season finale.
Then at the start of Ep.5 we can have still have a silly farcical scene with Colin and Portia that keeps the spirit of Portia's Felicity misunderstanding intact but this time she's not following Colin's meaning because Pen already has another proposal from a 'better' titled suitor?

Thinking about that scene towards the end of Persuasion, when Mrs. Croft is talking to Mrs. Musgrove about engagements, and how "very unsafe and unwise" it is to get engaged if you have absolutely no time frame on when you'll have the financial means to be married.
And it happens within earshot of Captain Wentworth, who's spent 8 entire years feeling salty with Anne because she dared listen to a parental figure tell her that exact same thing.
His quick lil peek around at Anne, to see if she's also hearing his own sister unknowingly call his earlier point of view idiotic, is pure gold.
